(More customer reviews)The Alpha Anthology, is so far the best port of any Street Fighter collection. It includes five games (SF Alpha, Alpha 2, Alpha 2 Gold, Alpha 3, and Gem Fighter), as well as two unlockable games (Hyper SF Alpha and a "bonus" version of SF Alpha 3).
The graphics and music of the five titles are perfect, just like the original arcade games themselves. If you have a wide-aspect ratio TV, you'll be treated to full arcade goodness - if not, you can modify the aspect ratio so that it fits a standard TV. Controls are also flawless, much like those of the Anniversary Collection.
The unlockable games are as follows:
"bonus" SF Alpha 3: It's SF Alpha 3 with more fighting styles, and all (most?) the Street Fighter characters, drawn Alpha-style. This includes characters that have never before made it into Alpha games - like Balrog and Fei Long, and some that are brand new. When played alone, this game is very difficult.
Hyper SF Alpha: Very similar to SF Alpha 3 (in fact, I'm not sure what the exact differences are, in terms of gameplay), but can only be played against another opponent. Includes the same characters as "bonus" SFA3.
In addition, all Alpha games include a Versus mode with full win/loss tallying, a Dramatic Battle mode - in which two players (Human/Human or Human/CPU) simultaneously take on a single CPU player and a Survival mode, which places you against opponent after opponent, refilling only a portion of your life bar after each match.
To sum it up, the Alpha Anthology is the best SF collection Capcom has released. Here's to hoping that the Darkstalkers and Marvel series will follow a similar suit.

Forgotten Realms Archives: Silver Edition Review

(More customer reviews)When I was younger, first getting into RPGs, my mom got me Might and Magic: Darkside of Xeen and a set of AD&D games with Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, and Secret of the Silver Blades (3 of the 13 games in this set).Unfortunately I was too young to understand the complexities of all of the games, and never ended up getting very far, except in Might and Magic.A few years later I rented Eye of the Beholder (it and its two sequals are in this set) for SNES.I instantly became immersed in the enourmous environment provided, the Sewers of the city of Waterdeep provided great entertainment, and frustration, since there were no people to sell me potions, rations, or weapons.Once again I didn't make it very far, and always had to return the game before I got to the last battle.
Then, about a year ago I was in a certain store when I spoted a shelf of $10, two for one games.I looked through them while waiting for my mom to come from shopping and spotted this set in a smaller box, no instructions, only the decoder for entering some of the games included.But I instantly grabbed it, eagerly anticipating my mom's return so that I could purchase it.I bought it, brought it home, set it up on my older PC, and got right to Eye of the Beholder.
It is now one year later and I have gone through the entire Eye of the Beholder Series, completed Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure bonds, and am now working on Secret of the Silver blades.These are great games if you have an older computer (these may be the best games you can buy AND run on it), or even if you don't.
I have to admit, I wasn't happy with Blood and Magic and Hillsfar, but those are only two out of thirteen games (actually, Menzobaranzan doesn't seem to work with my computer, so that brings the total games I won't play to three out of thirteen).These games represent a wonderful range of styles.Eye of the Beholder is mostly like Baldur's gate, except first person (like the old Shadowgate games, or, I suppose, Myst) and with no shops, everything you use is found.Secret of the Silver blades is first person in the same way, untill you get into a battle.Then it goes to an overhead view with true turnbased combat.Blood and Magic is mostly like a strategy game.
If you like modern AD&D games, then this is probably a nice set of games for you.However, if you are new to the series, you should try some of the newer games, such as Baulder's gate and Icewind Dale.

Devil May Cry 5th Anniversary Collection Review

(More customer reviews)This is a fantastic collection for the price.The first and third are absolute gems of games, with quality graphics (especially considering that DMC 1 was made in 2001), smooth action, and an engaging story.

The second game in the series was a bit of a step backwards, but only when compared to the other games in the series.Viewed on its own, it's still a fun game.It just limited some of the expansiveness that made the original so engaging.

The third went back to the roots in many ways, and at the same time built on the series.The game was made to be more challenging, graphics improved, and it became an even deeper experience than before.

Even with the relative dud sandwiched into this set, the entire collection is a wonderful value at just $10 per game -- cheaper than most any brand new bargain bin game you can find.This is one of the true classic series on PS2, and a must for any collection.Whether you were a fan of one of the games, or have never tried any in the series, go out and get this collection.You will not regret it.

(More customer reviews)"Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 - Triple Thrill Pack" finally delivers the RCT2 I wanted.It not only lets you simulate building amusement parks, complete with rides, food & drink stalls, and other attractions, but this pack includes a huge number of different coasters and examples of each type, and also allows you to try to build your own coasters. There are many other types of amusement park rides, including log flumes and water slides, merry-go-rounds and ferris wheels, go kart race tracks and car rides, and many others. There are also over a dozen scenarios ranging from fairly easy to fairly difficult. The fact that all the scenarios are accessible from the beginning of the game is a big plus.

The replay value of this game is great. I find myself coming back to see if I can better my previous rating or ending park value, or both, or add something to my previous parks to make them more interesting. I know I've spent countless hours designing little tweaks to make my parks or rides "just right".

The primary program, "Roller Coaster Tycoon II," provides many good features that are a big improvement over RCT1, but the same graphics engine is used.I really like this sim game - probably more than any other game like it.If you like amusement parks and roller coasters, and you like games like "Civilization" and other simulations, you'll love Roller Coaster Tycoon 2.

"Wacky Worlds" adds a lot of scenery like the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal, the Eiffel Tower and many others to make your park a true international experience. There are over 20 new scenarios, 50 new ride types (not all of which will be coasters), and about a total of 250 new game elements.But the total of the new elements in "Wacky Worlds" wasn't worth the price of admission all by itself.

"Time Twister" adds even more great rides and some really wonderful scenarios to the overall mix.There's a few for every age - from the Medieval to the present and beyond.There's also a few new rides and attractions."Time Twister" also suffered from not having nearly enough material to satisfy RCT fans by itself.

But now you can Triple your fun with this all in one pack.Amazon.Com doesn't have half stars, so I can't give this game the 4 1/2 stars it deserves, but I'm sure if you've found previous games in the series interesting. you'll love tripling your fun!

If you've never tried Roller Coaster Tycoon, and you like amusement parks, you'll love the ability to design and build your own amusement park. RCT2 gives you almost everything that the old game had. But if you've already tried RCT1 you may find that this game just isn't different enough from the original, even though it includes the new scenario designer and other new features. The graphics haven't been updated much at all - and the graphics were already a little dated in RCT1.

But if you =really= want the =complete= pack, do an Internet search for "RCT2 User Created Expansion Set" and download that.You will be highly surprised at the many new features, rides and other things that fan-created expansion does for this game.

Now that my predictions have come to pass and everything is available for RCT2, I very highly recommend this purchase over any of the other stand alone sets, including the incomplete "Combo Pack".But if you already =love= RCT2, then just wait a few weeks - Chris Sawyer and Atari are rolling out RCT3 - which finally has a 3D feel and a coaster cam! If you've never tried to build your own amusement park, and had a secret yen to try it, then RCT2 is a great game. Watch out Disney World - here comes Roller Coaster Tycoon 2!

(More customer reviews)There's a steady list of classic compilation games coming out these days, and the Sega Genesis Collection brings nearly thirty classic Genesis games to the PS2, and they all look, sound, and play like their original, 16-bit counterparts.Many of the games here we haven't seen on previous Sega compilations, like Alex Kidd, Bonanza Bros., Shadow Dancer, Ristar, Decap Attack, Sword of Vermillion, Super Thunder Blade, and Shinobi 3 to go along with faves like Sonic 1 & 2, the Golden Axe trilogy, Comix Zone, Altered Beast, Flicky, the Ecco trilogy, and the Phantasy Star games, which thankfully includes the overlooked classic Phantasy Star IV, which along with II and III, is worth the price of admission alone.Vectorman 1 & 2 are here as well, and so is the Genesis version of Virtua Fighter 2, which is the only real weak spot of the compilation as it is just as muddy, slow, and buggy as it was when released on the Genesis years ago.There's a good amount of extras as well, including many interviews with developers, and unlockable games like the arcade version of Altered Beast and Zaxxon.Sadly though, some games which longtime fans may have wanted to see here, like the Streets of Rage trilogy, Revenge of Shinobi, Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force, Landstalker, and Eternal Champions would have been more than welcome, although many of them are available on previous compilations.All in all, the Sega Genesis Collection is a wonderful compilation of some of the best Genesis games ever, and for longtime fans of the classic console, this is a must have.

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection Review

(More customer reviews)OK, quick summation of what this is: It has two games. One is Hyper SF2, which contains all five incarnations of SF2 rolled into one. The other is SF3: 3rd Strike, which is a separate and unique game that was overlooked by most gamers because of the advent of 3D fighters like Tekken. It also has the Street Fighter animated movie, for what that's worth (not much in my view but you might disagree).

Hyper SF2 is just as excellent and playable as you remember it with only two problems. One, as other reviewers have mentioned, is that the AI opponent is very cheap/hard (and it only uses Super SF2 characters). The other is that most Xbox/PS2 controllers do not handle the special moves well. You're not limited by character version; that is, you can pit Original SF2 Dhalsim against Super SF2 Guile. That's 50+ character variations, and while there's not much difference between them, there are a few minor instances of imbalance.

I really like SF3 because it's unique. The parry system is gutsy and helps remove most imbalances (only Yun and Yang are too fast). The characters are well designed, and the animation is the most fluid out of any 2D fighter ever. Sure, the last boss is too hard, but the single-player is not the selling point of a fighting game.

In both games, I found online play pretty laggy, and had to wait a while to find someone to play, which was disappointing. I think that it's way more fun to bring people together physically to play these games, like they used to gather around the arcade machine.

My only other complaint is that they could have included Street Fighter Alpha here, too, but didn't. The PS2 now has the Alpha Anthology, but for those looking for SF Alpha for Xbox or GameCube, your best bet is Capcom v. SNK 2 (but NOT the crappy Capcom Fighting Evolution).

If you like fighting games, get this one. I recommend also getting the SF Anniversary controller (they're $15 and work great with all fighting games) to maximize the control tightness. Then get your friends over and party like it's 1990.

The price is right and every single on of these games are absolutely some of the best games I have ever played. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (w/ Master Quest) Review

(More customer reviews)To begin, I'd like to admit that I grew up on Zelda since the age of seven during the Christmas of '92 when I bought 'A Link to the Past' not too long after. I immediately became HOOKED!! When I was about nine, I gave the follow-up, 'Link's Awakening' a try (Yes, I've played BOTH the GB and GBC versions already now) and enjoyed it just as much. Finally, when 'Ocarina of Time' hit stores in '98, I was quite curious but a bit unsure if it would take away that good ol' classic feeling that I'd loved as a kid (I am a retro fan after all when it comes to gaming) so I decided to rent it for my N64. I wasn't in any way disappointed. Almost everything about the game resembled to that of the NES, SNES, & GBC originals, aside from the new and impressive 3D look.

The dungeons were fun and challenging, the puzzles were well thought out, and the bosses were simply SPECTACULAR! In addition, the controls were easy to master and you could practically do more than before. (With the 64-bit graphics, how could you go wrong?) But most of all, the musical score was one of the most beautifully composed works I'd ever heard and nearly brought a tear to my eye a couple times. I'd play the game for hours on end and never get tired of it. It's possibly THE greatest Zelda of all time and creator, Shigeru Miyamoto had truly outdone himself with this one. In 2003 when 'The Windwaker' was hitting U.S. shores for Gamecube, those who pre-ordered it would receive this awesome Bonus Disk. Fortunately, I was one of the many who could get it for free, and I must say that it's splendid to see the rebirth of a classic.

Despite some minor problems (e.g. the music may skip a little here and there) this is actually an excellent transfer straight from the N64 to the GC. In fact, it's almost better than what it used to be. For example, the picture quality is sharper and clearer than it once was and the graphics' animation is slightly improved over the N64 version. As a bonus, the game, 'Master Quest' is also included, which is the same story as 'Ocarina', only the dungeons are different and the overall gameplay is far more difficult than the original. (You may need to refer to a strategy guide for help on this one) Nevertheless, it's a special treat for those who are looking for an extra challenge.

I HIGHLY recommend this game(s) to any and all Zelda fans that haven't gotten the chance to try it yet. For those of you who've already played through and beaten it, you can relive the adventure all over again in 'Master Quest'. Be sure to pick this one up wherever you can find it because it IS a very rare and hard-to-find lost gem. Better yet, just buy a copy here off amazon.com. You'll be happy you did! :)

Mega Man Anniversary Collection Review

REVIEW
Just how much fun is it to play that old-school, side-scrolling, blue bomber anyway?These games have not lost their touch at all.Both gamers who suffer from incurable nostalgia (like me) and those of the next-gen consoles (like most of today's generation) can enjoy this compilation.

The basic premise for this series is that as Mega Man, you will complete from 4-to-8 stages (depending on the game), each with plenty of side-scrolling shooting your way through robot enemies and jumping exercises, and each ending with a Boss battle.You must choose wisely, though, because although you can finish them in any order, certain bosses' weapons have a distinct advantage over another.After defeating these foes, Dr. Wily awaits Mega Man at his castle, which will require every weapon you've just gained to progress.It is this freedom-of-choice that gives the "Mega Man" franchise such a proud place in gaming history.

What Capcom did right with this series is not incorporate too many new features that weren't already in the games.For example, you won't be able to Slide until the 3rd game, nor will you charge up your Mega Buster until the 4th game.These games are properly ported form their original versions.
Sure, there are a few touches here and there.There isn't as much framerate slowdown as before, a useless map is now added to the PAUSE Menu, and the timeline references ("20XX") match today's timeline ("2004").The best addition is a SAVE feature, that allows you to avoid those annoying Passwords, and just jump right where you left off.You'll lose you acquired Lives and E-Tanks, but the level-and-weapon status remains intact.

Many consider the first 3 games to be the classic titles.
The first "Mega Man" is still the hardest of them all.The enemies are unrelenting, and I've read that there used to be a Boss glitch that Capcom removed, forcing you to use your skills even more.Although basic in concept, the challenge is very unforgiving in some levels.This game is hard.

"Mega Man 2" is my favorite of them all, because the music is catchy as hell, plus the bosses and levels are expertly designed.For those who've played this game before, the fourth Dr. Wily boss is still a pain-in-the-ass though.

"Mega Man 3" is by far the longest in the series, as you'll battle 8 original bosses, then the 8 from "Mega Man 2", then tackle Dr. Wily's 6 stages of combat.This entry is also a little tough, because you're gonna have to be extra-smart to make it through this one.

Most fans consider the next three games ("Mega Man" 4,5,6) to be the money-making sequels.Back in the day, I would agree, but since the price of this disc is less than these 3 titles combined at original price, I won't complain.Also, they're so much fun that how can you resist the technical improvements.

The 4th game is when the powers and upgrades become more plentiful.Eight more levels await, and this time there are actually 2 castles to shoot your way through.This one holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first one I ever beat.

"Mega Man 5" and "Mega Man 6" share many similiarities.Both games start off with 8 robot bosses, then reveal the supposed enemy's castle of 4 stages, only to expose that Dr. Wily was behind it all, and give us a few more stages to battle through.The stories are a joke, but who's reading anyway.But neither of these games are bad at all, and proudly earn their spots in the classic NES sextilogy.

"Mega Man 7" was the SNES game that reinvigorated the franchise for many fans.Better graphics and sound quality, not to mention some unique bosses, gave this series some more life.To be honest, I think this game runs a little slower than my taste, as the NES games are much more faster-paced.Still, a worthy entry,

The 8th game was released on the PS-one, and to be honest, I haven't beaten it yet because the stages are truly mind-boggling in puzzles and challenging with their platforming sections.I'm having a great time with it, though, and eagerly await the concluding obstacles...

There are even two bonus fighting games that aren't too bad.They're both themed after the 8 previous games, and allow Mega Man, his brother Proto Man, and newfound ally Bass, to face off in classic Capcom 2D fighting.Think "Street Fighter" with "Mega Man" weapons.

Included on this disc are some bogus extra features that I could do without, but that's not why you buy collections like this."Mega Man Anniversary Collection" is all about the evolution of gaming.The action of these titles was deceptively simple, and I have no problem recommending this disc to anybody.My minor quibble with this game is that the GameCube controller's D-Pad is too damn small, but that's a problem I can overlook.I'm recommending people buy this collection of titles because they are all about gaming.You won't find "Metal Gear Solid"-like complicated stories, or "Final Fantasy"-like levelling up, or "Resident Evil"-like puzzles.All of those are great titles, but "Mega Man" is much simpler.All you need are two hands, keen eyes, and a hunger to execute these commands..."Run---Jump---Shoot".Can you do that?Good, now stop reading my review and buy this already!

(More customer reviews)The hype behind this game is well worth it.This is a must have collection for any basketball fan.The graphic in the game is outstanding and the AI and game play is unbelievable.The players grunt when they take a difficult shot or take a charge.You have to be careful with your passes because the computer is playing for real and picking off lazy passes.Yes, they hyped the game with the return of Jordan, but it is not only Jordan that is in the game.Malone, Stockton, Pipen, Rodman etc. are all in the game.There are players in the game that we all forgot i.e. Bill Wellington with the Bulls.The commentators does a great job with the play-by-play calling and it is bring back memories listening to them talk during the game about when Jordan had the flu.They got all the drama surrounding that correct.I did find a bug in the game.Near the end of the game while, shooting free throws my coach Phil Jackson walked on the floor and stood in the lane. It does take time getting use to play of the game because the defense is much tougher as in previous games.The Jordan challenges is not easy.

Tiberian Sun & Firestorm Expansion - Though the graphics are a little dated, the gameplay of Tiberian Sun more than make up for it. Futuristic technology abounds. 4 out of 5.

Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge Expansion - Possibly the most popular C&C game, Red Alert 2 allows you to fight in the modern world (with some futuristic technologies such as hovercraft. The war is between the U.S. and its allies and the Soviet Union, who are invading the States and have powerful mind-control technology at their disposal. 5 out of 5.

Renegade - This is the only game in this collection that falls short of great. Sure, it's cool for a while to run around in the world of Tiberian Sun, but a great first-person shooter this is not. It's repetetive and alternately laughably easy and frustratingly hard. If you're looking for a couple days' worth of entertainment, this might suit you. If you're looking for a great sci-fi FPS, well, keep looking. Westwood should've stuck with strategy games. 3 out of 5.

All in all this is a great package that is well worth your twenty bucks. If you like RTS games at all, stop reading this review and buy The Command & Conquer Collection.

(More customer reviews)The Command and Conquer series is just incredible. Some of the first walkthroughs I wrote were for the original Command and Conquer series.

These games began coming out in 1995, and it's just amazing how fun they still are to play - and how quickly I remember the missions. They really were a ton of fun. They were great strategy, the plotline was great, and the graphics were very impressive for the time.

Sure, in modern times we might chuckle at the white-square grenade being "lobbed", but after a few minutes you get right into the spirit of things. You run over the enemy troops with your harvester, you go after that base, you build your barracks and are sucked in for hours.

I do have all the original games - but half of them won't run on modern computers! With this set you get the full set of games, all of them run quite nicely, and they are all just as good if not better as far as graphics go.

If you haven't played any of these games, you really have to get this set. These are true gaming classics that are incredibly fun to play. If you HAVE played these in the past, then you owe it to yourself to buy this set so that you can play them on your current system. The price is amazingly cheap for the number of games you are getting.

Highly, highly recommended - a must have for anyone who enjoys strategy gaming.
