(More customer reviews)Phantasy Star IV is a perfect example of an old-school RPG.It is one of the two greats for the Genesis, in my opinion (the other being Shining Force II).The entire series is one of the best ever made (I find it necessary to mention, or course, that Phantasy Star III is not very good, as it was made by a different company).I would really like to see a new one for one of the next generation systems (Phantasy Star Online doesn't really count).
Phantasy Star IV is a classic.It has the standard combat system, with you and the enemies on opposite sides, with attacks, special skills, and techniques which you can perform.It is still a lot of fun, though.It has a high level of random encounters, but it is necessary to fight a lot, and do a lot of leveling-up, to be powerful enough to fight the bosses.
The characters are a lot of fun, and are surprisingly well developed throughout the game.They are basically the standard Anime style fare, but of course, all have their own traits.Phantasy Star has okay graphics, but they are kind of strange.It also has the absolute best Genesis game soundtrack ever made.
Phantasy Star IV has really cool comic book style cut scenes accompanied by well written dialogue and plot.The cut scenes, to say the least, are revolutionary, and they type of thing which really puts this over the top of almost every other old-school RPG I know of.Without them, it just wouldn't be the same game.
The storyline is fairly standard, as you are a group of heroes trying to stop the evil "Dark Force".Within this set-up, it does a really good job of creating an interesting plot.I found myself entertained by it.For one, Phantasy Star IV does have one of the most sad parts ever.I was sad, at least.
Anyway, Phantasy Star IV was a great game, and for a Genesis game is fairly long, maybe 30 or 40 hours (I didn't really keep track).It is one of my all-time favorites.If you have a Genesis and some extra cash, pick this one up.

Madden 98 Football Review

(More customer reviews)Well I have Madden 2001 on PC and I still get out my old Sega just to play Madden 98 . The gameplay is great and it's very easy to get the hang of . In this game you're coach , owner and player . You can trade and create players . This part of the game is very realistic ! And this game is also a great buy . Did I mention I LOVE THIS GAME !!! One big setback is graphics but c'mon it's a Sega , right ?

6 Button Arcade Pad for Sega Genesis Review

(More customer reviews)Many of the Sega Genesis games, especially in the later years rellied heavily on the 6 button control bad. If you want to play a fighting game, of course, you'll need one of these. But either way--it ain't the same with out 6 buttons. You get used to the controller. Better just buy one just in case you need it!

Streets of Rage Review

(More customer reviews)I love this game. I played it a zillion times during Spring 1993 with my friend Andrew. I used to play Axel or Blaze and he would be Adam. There are 8 levels to work thru in a run-down and corrupt city led by the evil Mr Big. Beating up all the bad guys and the end-of-level boss is much fun. Level 4 (The Bridge) was my fave because you could chuck baddies down the holes into the river.

It also had truly fantastic music. The composer Yuzo Koshiro did absolue miracles with the limited technology of the Sega Genesis. The main theme, Level One, Level 4 and Final Boss are standout tunes.

I wish Sega would do PC version of the SOR games. It's not fair that only people with a Genesis can still play this game. I would love to own this again. It would be in my computer permanently.

(More customer reviews)There's a steady list of classic compilation games coming out these days, and the Sega Genesis Collection brings nearly thirty classic Genesis games to the PS2, and they all look, sound, and play like their original, 16-bit counterparts.Many of the games here we haven't seen on previous Sega compilations, like Alex Kidd, Bonanza Bros., Shadow Dancer, Ristar, Decap Attack, Sword of Vermillion, Super Thunder Blade, and Shinobi 3 to go along with faves like Sonic 1 & 2, the Golden Axe trilogy, Comix Zone, Altered Beast, Flicky, the Ecco trilogy, and the Phantasy Star games, which thankfully includes the overlooked classic Phantasy Star IV, which along with II and III, is worth the price of admission alone.Vectorman 1 & 2 are here as well, and so is the Genesis version of Virtua Fighter 2, which is the only real weak spot of the compilation as it is just as muddy, slow, and buggy as it was when released on the Genesis years ago.There's a good amount of extras as well, including many interviews with developers, and unlockable games like the arcade version of Altered Beast and Zaxxon.Sadly though, some games which longtime fans may have wanted to see here, like the Streets of Rage trilogy, Revenge of Shinobi, Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force, Landstalker, and Eternal Champions would have been more than welcome, although many of them are available on previous compilations.All in all, the Sega Genesis Collection is a wonderful compilation of some of the best Genesis games ever, and for longtime fans of the classic console, this is a must have.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Review

(More customer reviews)As most people know Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was the last 2-d Mortal Kombat to come out of the 16bit era (Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo) But it does not disappoint. I have all four Mortal Kombat games available on Sega Genesis. I've had the first three for quite some time before managing to finally find UMK3, and I have been having fun with it since. All it really comes down too is that is MK3 but with extra characters, some new levels, combos, and even the everlasting glitches to appear every now and then. In my opinion UMK3 on the Genesis was my favorite port of the game, but the Sega version will have its downfalls especially being the arcade version is incredible. Some of the downfalls include: Some fatalities changed, animalities are taken out and replaced with brutalities, game will crash but not too often, some combos that can be done in the arcade version (12-20 hits, more then 100% damage) are hard and if not in way impossible to pull off in this port. Mostly from the fact your using a d-pad instead of the famous joystick, system slow done compared to the arcade version, and plain just controller in general. Im not saying they cant be done but i find it very hard to do sometimes. Now on to the computer, it is somewhat harder to beat compared to MK3 but still not all that hard. They added another tower on this with one with a harder difficulty level, but the experienced player can make it through pretty easy. Now about the sound quality of the game, the levels music are somewhat alright but kinda close to being unbearable. The announcer does not say any of the kombatants names which may not seem like a big deal to anyone, but personally i used to love how the pronouncer said some of their names. Scorpion doesnt do this famous get over line when doing his spear move, and you will just notice little sound glitches here or there but nothing to major. Overall i would say if your looking for a game that is tons of fun, and can open a lot of doors in the video game world, then this would be it.

Sonic & Knuckles Review

(More customer reviews)This game has tons of neat things. Hook on most games, and get a special stage. Hooking on Sonic one lets you play a whole bunch. Hook on sonic 2 and play as knuckles in sonic 2. Sonic 3 is neat too. Find out about the super emeralds. Or play regularly with lots of levels. The Game Genie is good on this game. (Very rare but fun. I have one)

(More customer reviews)I will never forget the snowy Xmas of 1992 when I made the upgrade from the trusty old Commodore 64 to the Sega Genesis. I got about 1 game per week for the Genesis and tried just about everything. My first ever game tho was Sonic the Hedgehog. The gameplay was simple and that's the way I liked it.
The graphics were cute. From bright blue sunshine and tropical landscapes to the cruel mechanical world of Doctor Robotnik (now called the Eggman). The music was great (where are the soundtrack CDs???) and I was never happier.
Sure it was totally easy but I always went back for more. This game had such charm is it any wonder why Sonic is still so popular all these years on?

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Review

(More customer reviews)Sonice & Sega All-Stars racing takes the popular genre of the racing genre and adds in our favorite SEGA characters.One of the leading features of the game is the wide amount of fan service given to the characters. Sonic fans will love to see their Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Eggman as racers; they will see tracks themed with Sonic (and even sound effects like the bumper from the casinos of the Sonic the Hedgehog series), and they will even be able to hear and unlock numerous songs from throughout the Sonic universe, such as "Super Sonic Racing" from Sonic R, or even "What U Need" from Sonic Rush.Not only is this true for the Sonic series but is true for the other series represented (Sambe De Amigo, Super Monkey Ball, etc).

This game brings SEGA characters and unites them in this genre, which is perhaps quite fun.For the PS3, PSN support lets players race with up to 4 players split screen (locally), or with 2 to 8 players via the online mode.

The mechanics to racing are quite simple with really easy to grasp controls.Use a trigger button to gas, one to break, and then the x-button to launch a weapon.Its pretty fast and hectic which makes every racing experience unique.

There is just one fault and that is probably some of the levels are quite short, however its only about four of them among the twenty-four tracks. The voice acting of the characters is true to how they have always sounded, and the narrator is quite funny.

Definitely check the game out and enjoy it.
