Kung Fu Chaos Review

Not many good reviews of this game, but I don't think the reviews are being fair.OK.This game does have bad moments such as the multiplayer, but I think the single player mode is interesting and fun.For example, they have some mini games in between levels such as throwing the princess at other players to knock them down.Other mini games include catching as many stuntmens from the roof as possible while trying to avoid being hit by falling cows, tables, and chairs. There is some replay value because you need to complete some levels with 5 stars to unlock hidden levels or characters. If you don't believe me, just rent the game and find out for yourself.

Dungeon Keeper Review

I really enjoyed the wicked genre of the game. Some people hate the fact that you start from scratch, but what are the odds that you'll find an underground empire that you don't have to fight for or build yourself. The real trick is keeping your minions from desserting because they have sence of creature comforts to and you have to pay them (what you thought they'd just work for you putting their life at stake with no cash income?) and keep them from warring amongst themselves because they have natural enemies. This game is really humorous (ever slap a bile demon) the creatures reactions to certains actions are normally quite funny. One word of advice never sacrifice/slap the horned reaper. if you sacrifice it the creatures will desert with the tought that you're an idiot for sacrificing the best demon. If you slap him he'll go into a killing frenzy killing everything in sight until is but a bloody wasteland before him this is actually quite funny to watch,but...

Sometimes you just need to express your dark side. In Dungeon Keeper, you're the boss of a horrible, rotten-smelling dungeon, and you must keep all of your loathsome, demonic creatures in line. If that weren't enough to keep you busy, your lair is continually invaded by hoards of idealistic "heroes" wanting to slay you, proclaim a triumph over evil, and go back to a village feast in their honor. What's an evil boss to do? Unleash your minions, set deadly traps, cast spells, and punish them with your torture devices. And most of all, teach those dumb do-gooders a lesson.

Gamefest: Forgotten Realms Review

Gamefest: Forgotten Realms
Average Reviews:

I saw this game for $5 in the store and bought it without a second thought. For 14 games, you are paying about 35 cents per game. I owned an original copy of _Eye_of_the_Beholder_ way back when, and found a catalog from 1991 in the box. The catalog contained 5 of the games on this disk, each selling for $50. It's almost sad that games like these can depreciate in value so much -- but at the same time, it's one hell of a deal!

I tried installing these on Linux, but the installer is a Windows program, and it was all fubar in wine... So I took the disk over to my Windows 95 computer, installed Eye of the Beholder, copied all the resulting files back over to Linux and ran the game in DOSBox. It worked beautifully! I didn't try, but I'm sure they will run just fine on Windows, too.

I must complain about the manuals, though. They basically scanned the original manuals as PDFs. That's fine, although it's somewhat poor quality, but for some reason, they concatenated all 14 of the games' manuals into one huge 80MB PDF file. It therefore takes up a ton of room -- even if you are only playing one game at a time, you still have all the others' manuals on your HD -- and it's hard to find the game you want.

Despite that, if you have played some of these games before, and would like to experience some nostalgia, you really can't go too wrong with 35 cents per game.

Icewind Dale II Review

Icewind Dale II
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have played both Baldur's Gate games, Planescape: Torment, and the Icewind Dale series extensively. While these games all share the Infinity engine, I was never truly absorbed by Torment or the Baldur's Gate games the way I have been with Icewind Dale 1 and 2. All were splendid games, but Icewind Dale offers a feature that sets it victoriously apart from its kin - it allows you to create a PARTY of adventurers, not just a single hero. I joyously spend hours crafting my party before leaping headlong into the game itself, where the fun only continues. Icewind Dale is everything that Diablo is NOT, despite both games' reliance on open battle. Where Diablo is a clickfest to see who drops first, Icewind Dale requires tactics and strategy amidst the chaos (and gives you a pause feature to simulate a kind of turn-based, thought-provoking play style). Despite the action, very little about Icewind Dale II (or Icewind Dale) can be called "dumbed down," save perhaps for the linear nature of the campaign - which I, for one, embrace, as I loathe errand boy quests that seem unimportant to the storytelling. Icewind Dale II is pure gaming goodness in a tasty D&D shell, and anyone who likes the sound of that should not hesitate to play this game... not even for a second.

Forgotten Realms Archives: Silver Edition Review

Forgotten Realms Archives: Silver Edition

When I was younger, first getting into RPGs, my mom got me Might and Magic: Darkside of Xeen and a set of AD&D games with Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, and Secret of the Silver Blades (3 of the 13 games in this set).Unfortunately I was too young to understand the complexities of all of the games, and never ended up getting very far, except in Might and Magic.A few years later I rented Eye of the Beholder (it and its two sequals are in this set) for SNES.I instantly became immersed in the enourmous environment provided, the Sewers of the city of Waterdeep provided great entertainment, and frustration, since there were no people to sell me potions, rations, or weapons.Once again I didn't make it very far, and always had to return the game before I got to the last battle.
Then, about a year ago I was in a certain store when I spoted a shelf of $10, two for one games.I looked through them while waiting for my mom to come from shopping and spotted this set in a smaller box, no instructions, only the decoder for entering some of the games included. But I instantly grabbed it, eagerly anticipating my mom's return so that I could purchase it.I bought it, brought it home, set it up on my older PC, and got right to Eye of the Beholder.
It is now one year later and I have gone through the entire Eye of the Beholder Series, completed Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure bonds, and am now working on Secret of the Silver blades. These are great games if you have an older computer (these may be the best games you can buy AND run on it), or even if you don't.
I have to admit, I wasn't happy with Blood and Magic and Hillsfar, but those are only two out of thirteen games (actually, Menzobaranzan doesn't seem to work with my computer, so that brings the total games I won't play to three out of thirteen). These games represent a wonderful range of styles.Eye of the Beholder is mostly like Baldur's gate, except first person (like the old Shadowgate games, or, I suppose, Myst) and with no shops, everything you use is found.Secret of the Silver blades is first person in the same way, untill you get into a battle. Then it goes to an overhead view with true turnbased combat.Blood and Magic is mostly like a strategy game.
If you like modern AD&D games, then this is probably a nice set of games for you. However, if you are new to the series, you should try some of the newer games, such as Baulder's gate and Icewind Dale.

Dungeon Siege is a most entertaining game that has been lost in the dank, dusty halls of video game antiquity. No one I've talked to had heard of it, yet after reading ancient reviews of the game, I went out on a limb and purchased Legends of Aranna (definitely the way to go; Microsoft included Dungeon Siege with its expansion). I was delighted.

I received the game on a quiet weekend and ended up playing it for three days straight, every spare moment. I still didn't get a third of the way through the ORIGINAL game!

I cannot honestly say Dungeon Siege has a great story; it's recycled, it's simplistic, and it barely makes an appearance in the game. However, where Dungeon Siege really shines is its pure and unadulterated hacking and slashing. Dungeon Siege removes most of the frustrations that can occur in a hack-and-slash game, and strips down the genre to good, clean fun. There are far too many features aiding in making the experience simple and fun for me to go into here, but as a taste, Dungeon Siege includes packmules to carry extra loot, a spell called Transmute that turns the loot you still can't carry into gold (so you never lose any of your delightful items!) and one of the cleanest and simplest levelup systems I've ever seen.

When you're through with the original game, and Legends of Aranna, it's important to note that there are many siegelets (small games that are built on the dungeon siege engine) available; two from the company, and many available at random sites on the internet. These can add many dozens of hours of gameplay to an already turbo charged product.

In conclusion, for those who like hack and slash gameplay, Dungeon Siege delivers an incredible amount of value at an incredibly small cost.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II Review

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II
Average Reviews:

When I first rented Baldur's Gate 1, I stayed up all night with my sister and we destroyed the game, loving every second of it.We beat all the settings, the gauntlet and extreme mode. After that, we were left to wait, wondering if a Baldur's Gate 2 would be coming. Our wait is now over. And it was well worth it.
Gameplay hasn't been changed much from the first one.Its still the go kill every one set up.This time, however, there is a vast quantity of new spells and feats to mess around with.Kromlech (the dwarven fighter from number 1) had, like, two feats he could use.Niether were very effective. On the other hand, Dorn, the massive barbarian, has just as many fighting feats as Ysuarn, the elven necromancer, has spells.Very cool.
The story line by itself is only fair. Its when you know what happened in number one can you fully realize and appreciate what's going on.There is finally some depth in character for our heros, all of them prompting NPC's to say different things if different people talk to them.
The biggest addition to number two is the weapons creation system. The possibilaties are endless.Add six rune stones, four aquamarine stones and four jet rocks and you get the
+5 Mighty Cleaving Axe of Cold Fire.Insanely cool (or hot?).
Yes, there are now five playable characters.A barbarian, necromancer, cleric, rogue and monk. They all have special abilities only they can get, meaning you have to play the game five times through to get full experience. And, if you have a friend to play with, you can fool around with different combinations of characters that will make you adapt to eachothers style of fighting.
The artificial intelligence is way better than it used to be.The archers and spear throwers will actually go to a strategic location, such as raised ground or behind a partially broken wall. Some enemies will attack you in certain formations, making it harder for you to maunuver. There are some old enemies, but alot more new ones.
If you liked the first Baldur's Gate, the second is the same thing, only its on fire going 100 miles per hour through a cave with all manner of monsters jumping out at you. This game is perfect for any fan of the series or hack and slash games in general.

Neverwinter Nights Review

Neverwinter Nights
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've played a lot of computer based role playing games and I think Neverwinter Nights is the best.I've played it for over a year now.

For one thing, the Platinum package offers an incredible amount of content that used to cost $100 in a very affordable package.Second, the game is based on Dungeons and Dragons rules, which have been tested and refined for decades. It takes a while to grasp the richness of the possibilities, but it's worth it.Third, some people complain about the graphics but I think they look great.I never get tired of pausing a battle and zooming the camera around in circles and in for a closeup.Fourth, the interface is so simple it's almost a work of art.You right click on any particular object and a menu of things you can do with it comes up.

Fifth, with NWN comes a toolset that lets you build your own adventures. The ones provided with NWN Platinum are pretty good -- with Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark being far better than the original campaign. So you can download, for free, literally hundreds of additional games that fans have spent hundreds or thousands of hours creating. And many of these are even better than the adventures that come with NWN Platinum.People have also built additional scenery, monsters, environments, and much more.So you learn one set of rules and you're set for dozens of adventures - some short and intense, some huge and sprawling (with up to 60-100 hours of playing time, so they say).I feel like I'm totally set to be entertained for the next 6-12 months, probably more if people keep building great adventures and putting them online.(See nwvault.ign.com for a glimpse of what's out there. And did I mention it's all free?)

Sixth, if you have a fast online connection (which I don't), you can play online with others in "persistent worlds" full of gamers, or in campaigns with your friends -- and a Dungeon Master can even run the show and provide the kind of interactivity and richness that pen & paper experiences used to provide.I can't speak to that whole aspect because I don't have DSL or cable, but many people love playing that way.

I think this is simply an unbeatable package.Diablo I&II were incredibly fun, they had atmosphere and gameplay for days, but in terms of role playing they lacked depth and freedom, and battles were basically a clickfest (click on that one! now click on that one! now click on that one!).Morrowind is unmatched as a sprawling, freeform adventure, but it's so open ended that you often feel lost and somewhat unmotivated after a couple of weeks, or months, of playing.Plus, to improve your lock picking skill, you had to pick hundreds of locks. To improve your jumping skill, you had to jump and jump and jump. That system just doesn't appeal to me.

I wish you good gaming.[PS:advice for new players:play a cleric.Great combination of fighter and spell caster.Lots of fun.]

Neverwinter Nights: Shadow of Undrentide Review

Neverwinter Nights: Shadow of Undrentide
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Shadows of Undrentide doesn't do much to change the way Neverwinter Nights is played, and this is generally for the best. The main changes in terms of characterization are five new prestige classes, a scattering of new feats and skills, and a few new spells for each spellcaster type. New creatures have been added as well, including two new familiars. Lastly, several new tilesets have been added: snow, desert, and Netherese ruins.

The new campaign isn't as long as BioWare's infinity engine game expansions (Heart of Winter, Throne of Bhaal) but isn't too short either. There's enough new things to see to make it interesting, and the roleplaying aspect is significantly improved over the original NWN campaign. For one, you really have the chance to act evil and still get through the game, which until now- in the general universe of D&D computer gaming- has been difficult at best. The plot is a pretty standard artifact hunt, but it does take some interesting turns. Fans of the Forgotten Realms D&D setting will appreciate this especially, but it's easy enough to follow that those who can't tell Elminster from Gandalf should be able to make sense of it.
As for the campaign difficulty, it is pretty tough. Whether out of some perverse humor or just because the original campaign was too easy, the developers seem to be baiting players to their doom. The prestige classes are the cool new thing about Shadows, but none of them (with the probable exception of Arcane Archer) are spellcasting classes. However, I found it extremely difficult to play single player without a spellcasting character [if it matters, I thought Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and the original NWN were all fun, but too easy]. You will often run into masses of enemies that individually are no match for your combat prowess, but taken in whole will make hay out of your warrior or rogue. When this happens, there's really no substitute for a good fireball. Of course, this can be remedied if you get all your friends online to help you out, which I heartily recommend.
You can bring along one of several potential allies- a dwarf rogue/priest, a half-orc barbarian/sorcerer, or a kobold bard. I found the spellcasting AI to be abysmal- the priest won't heal you when you're almost dead unless you ask her to, and the sorcerer seems to have nothing but ray of frost in his repertoire- and uses it even when he would do far better just meleeing the enemy up. The good news is you can now manage their inventory, so if you have an extra set of armor or weaponry (another plus in not being a warrior) you can give it to them. The pathfinding and trap handling AI seems to be improved as well. NPCs will no longer charge over a trap when they spot another one beyond it, and will finish disarming one before attacking an enemy.
New items in the expansion include grenade-like weapons such as alchemist's fire and acid flasks. These are useful early on, and in large quantities can duplicate that much-needed fireball effect, but are oddly expensive and don't do that much damage individually. New weapons, loot, and armor are of course available, though these generally don't have a new look. Some new potions and assorted artifacts can be found, some of which are quite interesting. For example, there is a bag that summons creatures depending on what ingredients you put inside it.
The new prestige classes available are the Arcane Archer, Assassin, Blackguard, Harper Scout, and Shadowdancer. This is where I have a bit of a gripe with Shadows. Save for Arcane Archer, these classes are, frankly, worthless. They were already pretty bad with the core rules, but some of those rules require things that NWN can't do (e.g. crafting Harper Pins as a Harper Scout). The developers overcame these problems by changing some abilities and, in my opinion, the computerized versions are even worse than the pen and paper ones. Also, as I mentioned earlier, there aren't spellcasting classes (arcane archer is far less arcane than archer). I was hoping they'd add the archmage or loremaster at least, but no luck there so you'll have to settle for the new familiars and spells. The familiars are the pseudodragon and fairy dragon, both of which are very cool. Spells include such notably absent ones as Shield, the Bigby's Hand series, Inflict Wounds spells, and Earthquake.
Of course, perhaps the best thing about Shadows is the potential fan content. The new tilesets look great, and the complex interactions in the new campaign show what can be done with the engine. Once the mod community sinks its teeth into the expansion, there will no doubt be plenty more adventures to share. This has always been the best part of Neverwinter Nights, and will surely be the best part of Shadows of Undrentide.

If you can find a copy of this, =get= it. I bought it (twice)for a high price and a low price. It's a great value either way,and a good choice for the casual gamer (who doesn't mind getting hopelessly addicted).
The original Civilization is here, as is Heroes of Might and Magic (I). Both of these games are =still= more addictive and playable than 98% of games released. In addition, you get Conquest of the New World Deluxe, the first X-Com and Railroad Tycoon (all on one CD). All of these games are classics; most have had successful sequels. (But Heroes of Might And Magic I, in particular, is still as playable as, and a pleasant break from its sequels.)
On top of that you get three other CDs with Jagged Alliance, M.A.X and Dark Colony. Dark Colony is both the newest the least inspired of this auspicious group (and the hardest to get working) but it still has some very cool features.
Get it while you can folks.END

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn Review

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was the LONGEST the MOST FUN game I have ever played! And, mind you, I am not an easy customer (feel free to browse through my reviews, you will see what I mean...)

The original BG series was excellent in all of storyline, gameplay, music and stability. Now, nowadays, sequels usually mean a graphically-improved expansion (at best). BG2 is a rare exception of the sequel clearly SURPASSING the original. And in the case of such great original, this means a lot!

Words fail to describe the perfect harmony of brilliant ideas, interweaved story-lines and detailed coding that makes this game an unsurpassable classic! Do not let the slightly outdated graphics discourage you. They were cutting edge only some years ago - and you will be able to unleash their full potential even on mid-range PCs!

I have yet to meet anyone who has played it and not raved about it! Hard-core D&D funs will find the character building, fighting checks and balances and overall experience very close to the actual pen-&-paper games.
Casual computer gamers will notice none of the tedious stuff of other cRPGs as the gameplay runs smooth and beautifully.
You even have the choice to turn it into either a turn-based or an action game by tweaking the auto-pause options! I am telling you: this is how computers games should be!

You will let yourself get lost in the deep dungeons of the labyrinthic story; you will be laughing out loud to the humorous dialog; you will be surprised as to who is a double and triple-agent.
There is an evil beyond imagining unleashed and only you with your party can stand in its way.
Party members offer a multitude of unpredictable balancing points and diverging story-lines of their own: side quests, conflicts and love affairs enrich the story in so many original ways!

An unsurpassed classic!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Battle Realms is one of the best RTS game I have ever played. The best way I can describe Battle Realms is like a game of chess where both players are moving pieces at the same time. You must be able to counter what units your opponent is using and at the same time try to get a leg up on the opposition by using Units, Battle Gear (magic that is bought in buildings) and Terrain.
The game is graphically stunning, the sound is superb, and the gameplay is unbelieveably addictive. Multiplayer is where the game really shines. I have spent countless hours playing and learning each clans(there are 4) intricate strengths and weaknesses.
With 12 new units being added to the expansion pack AND the fact that new players will be able to pick up both original and the expansion pack in one bundle for [$$] You owe it to yourself to try out this deep, highly entertaining RTS game.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Expansion Pack: Mask of the Betrayer Review

Neverwinter Nights 2 Expansion Pack: Mask of the Betrayer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
...An Epic Adventure with Sneak Attacks

UPDATED: 28 Jan 2008

As buggy as it was, initially, *Neverwinter Nights 2* brought together some of the best elements of the first series into an involved adventure. Now Obsidian Entertainment brings us *Mask of the Betrayer*, which extends both the story and the life of player characters. Though it does suffer from some balance issues.

Unlike the expansions in the first series, *Mask* is an actual sequel. After the climactic events of NWN2, your character awakes deep within a haunted barrow. Your inventory has been stripped of everything other than the armor and jewelry you wore. And the wizard in red isn't forthcoming with answers, as she approaches your stricken form...

Otherwise, MOTB feels a lot like those older expansions, particularly *Hordes of the Underdark*. It's a moodier, more mystical journey than NWN2. And no wonder--your character talks to gods, deals with witches, and exorcises ghosts. The undead play a much bigger role, as do spell casters, and players should invest in silver and adamantine weapons immediately. Paladins and clerics will perform well here.

The engine performs better too; with the 1.10 series patches, the memory leaks and frame-rate issues have been resolved on my power rig. However, it might be necessary to reinstall NWN2 before loading up MOTB--otherwise the Official Campaign (OC) might suffer some quest bugs.

The expansion enjoys more graphical options. Characters trip through monochromatic Planes, dank dungeons, and fuzzy dreams. Spot lighting also sees more use, and objects appear to cast stronger, more impressive shadows.

These colors cast upon new tile sets, including: a richly textured estate and a sewer-like underwater city. But the main setting is the cold, gray nation of Rashomen, styled on a combination of Native American and Scandinavian culture. It's not glacial like the lands in the original series expansions, but the landscape is not for those who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder!

Nor is the soundtrack. Obsidian introduces a ton of dreamy, often somber scores, both for Areas and for Battles. As far as sound effects go, MOTB reuses the files of NWN1 and 2, but it also uses a few custom creepy tracks.

Ultimately, however, the effects rest upon the story. And *Mask* is an odd one. The character falls into a maelstrom of curses and conspiracies culminating into a confrontation with Death itself. Along the way it questions both religion and nature, while the player puzzles together a mystery to the bitter end. To this end, the story entwines in themes of masks, costumes and theater. By afflicting the player with a curse, which affects a much wider conflict, the expansion also expresses a dramatic urgency in place of NWN2's casual journey.

But in achieving that drama, MOTB is also more linear than the OC. To navigate it, I was able to call upon a much smaller band of companions, and the four-member limit is rigidly enforced. At 25 hours in length, I beat it in about three days.

This can assure customers worried about the curse. Because the expansion is so straight-forward, there's not much to explore. Also, companions and items retard the curse anyways. Thus, only an incompetent player is going to have difficulty managing it.

Managing character itself is another matter. Prior to the latest patch, *Mask of the Betrayer* forced characters towards Lawful Good or Chaotic Evil alignments. Whenever the character acted upon the curse, it assigned a minimum two-point shift in lawfulness--shifts which rapidly add up.Bonuses come with these extremes, including uber weapons or stat-boosting feats.

Otherwise, this conflicts with most alignment-restricted classes. Thus the 1.11 patch removed the alignement shift entirely.

Another balance issue--the expansion is too short to justify its rewards. Nearly every chest bulges with thousands of gold pieces. While nearly every quest awards thousands of xp. This is out of scale with the OC, and causes characters to become too powerful too quickly.

Speaking of power, I come at last to the revised item enchanting system for *Mask*. Gone are the need for recipe books, ingredients, and even magician benches. With a few exceptions, every "recipe" is found in the item description for three new classes of essence: Volatile, Brilliant, and Pristine. The multitudes of undead drop these by the bucket load--no distillation required. There are also a handful of superduper essences that boost your weapons to absurd levels of elemental damage.

The enchantments focus heavily on elemental damage and stat-boosting. So you can forget about making Holy Avengers or Fortified Armor. You can boost weapons, armor, gloves, and shields up to +10 if you've acquired the right stuff from the Evil game path. And epic casters increase the maximum number of enchantments to four. But for some reason you can't enchant bracers, and there are no ingredients for bomb flasks or traps. While I appreciate the big boosts overall, I don't appreciate the limited selection of recipes.

But apart from these funky balance issues, I enjoyed playing this epic in a small package. Bioware never published a follow-up for veteran characters of the first NWN, so I'm glad Obsidian took on an actual sequel. A lot of performance issues are resolved and the enchanting system is simple and powerful. Obsidian also gave me a powerful character, and I hope another expansion comes along which can put it to the test.

I've decided to buy this collection after a reading a lot of reviews from different websites. But none of them are very clear about the contents of the package, so here is the contents of the package

1.Icewind Dale (2 CD's)
2.Icewind Dale Expansion Heart of Winter (1CD)
3.Icewind Dale II (2 CD's)
4.Icewind Dale soundtrack
5.Icewind Dale II bonus disk
6.Icewind dale strategy guides, trailer of IWD II

This package is well worth the purchase, u get a series of one of the best selling game, developed by pioneers who have also developed games like Fallout series, BG1 abd BG2.

The graphics are great, they look bright and crisp. The soundtrack is great and suits well with the ambience, u really feel the snow falling and the cold weather.

The gameplay is fun, it is more like a hack n slash game, i'm a greatest fan of diablo series, so i love this game as well.To put it in a nut shell, this game is Hack n slash with D&D rules. If u like diablo u will certainly like this.Baldurs gate fans will slightly get disappointed with the game play. Charecter creation is great, this game allows dual class charecters, so it adds more fun to gameplay. My only complaint is, there is no interation within r party members, but this doesn't affect the gameplay experience.

Overall if u ever have a thought of getting this game and don't know whether its worth the money, the answer is plainly, a best value for r money!
