No Fear Downhill Mountain Biking Review

A surprisingly good game. My wife even likes it! As a cyclist i was surprised by the high level of realism in the game.A player can actually exert subtle physical control over the bike- such as standing whilehammering the pedals, sitting back for improved braking and increased"endurance"- and have the expected result. All in all a goodgame.

Yakuza 2 Review

Yakuza 2
Average Reviews:

When Sega's Yakuza for the PS2 finally came stateside a while back, it offered up a decently entertaining brawler at best that just didn't do too much to seperate itself from the rest of the pack.Yakuza 2 thankfully, and surprisingly, improves on much of what the first game offered in terms of gameplay, graphics, and story; and is a pretty satisfying brawler that will keep you entertained for some time.Playing once again as Kazuma, you traverse through a nicely detailed Japan, and are still looking to put an end to your days with the mob.The game looks solid for a late-in-life PS2 game, offering up some nicely detailed characters and environments, while gameplay-wise the moments of brawling are easy enough to pick up and get into, and other elements bear more in common with the gameplay of the classic Shenmue. There's a lot of secrets and extras to find and uncover as well, and as a whole, Yakuza 2 will keep you busy for a while at the very least. The game's story is also nicely crafted, and offers up some memorable moments and characters. The only real flaws with Yakuza 2 is that there isn't too much here you haven't seen done before, and while for a PS2 game it looks great, there are some noticeable graphical hiccups.Flaws aside however, Yakuza 2 is a surprisingly good improvement on the first game that ends up being an enjoyable and even more surprisingly immersive experience that PS2 owners should definitely check out.

Dragonball Z Trilogy Review

Like the top says this bundle is great for people who have not played the tenkaichi games before (there way better than the "budokai" series)The pack consists of DBZ:Budokai Tenkaichi 1&2 and Super DBZ. I very much enjoyed Tenkaichi 1&2 (I also played #3 but find #2 to be the best) and I consider Super DBZ as a throw in (not my favorite fighter, although it was a arcade port.)

The thing I like about this the most is the price! For $30 you cant go wrong, new these games were $49.99 a piece that would be over $150 for these three games!!!

A Definite buy, you won't be sorry

P.S. I thought I should add that these games are not the 'greatest hits' but are black label!!!

NHL Hitz Pro Review

NHL Hitz Pro
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hola boys and girls,
Here's the deal, Hitz is the best hockey game on the market.Let me tell you why.Being a huge hockey fan (Go Avalanche!) for a number of years I have always checked out each new hockey game to come along.EA was doing good until the last 3 years and now they're franchise has gone down the tubes.ESPN has an alright game, but there is only a certain amount of realism that I care to digest.I play hockey games because they're fast, hard hitting, and damn fun.
With that in mind, Hitz is the best franchise around. You get extremely hard hitting (I love knocking players through the glass), nice physics, great competition (depending on what difficulty setting you have it on), and now we have 5-on-5 hockey. What's not to like about this game?
A lot of people have claimed that the hitting has toned down. What?!?!My friend and I got 333 hits in one game, that's not toned down. The fighting system is a little on the crappy side of things, but it's bearable.EA has the best fighting system by far. There are a few glitches in the grapics every now and then, but nothing to worry about.
Online play is quite fun.The only problem with online play is beating the crap out of someone and then having them quit before the end of the game. The game lags a little when playing online as well, but it's also bearable. That's to be expected though.
Another issue I have with the grapics is the players' hair. What the hell is with their hair?Could they at least attempt to make the hair look realistic.Plus their faces look a little goofy at times.
Line changes are new to this year's edition, but I'm disappointed that you can't change on the fly.I would love to be able to have a nice flow to the game without having to freeze the puck so that I can change lines. That's a minor issue, but it's just something I would like to see changed.
Here's another big issue: what happened to the mini-games?Those were incredibly fun to play with my buddies. Now all you get is pick-up hockey which is okay, but it's missing something.
I'm glad that you don't have to stadiums before each game, that was pointless.Though I do miss being able to use snow.I know that it had zero affect on play, but I just love snow.
The AI has been changed for the better this year.I could be the crap out of the computer on All-Star in last year's game, but Legend is quite the challenge.I find myself having to come from behind, or going into overtime.Last night I won a game in OT and I was hootin' and hollarin' because I was so into the game.I love that. There are very few sports games that I'm able to get that involved in.
Fortunately your players can now get assists if someone scores off of the rebound. That's how it is in real life and I'm glad that they added that much needed bit of realism. My players could have had double their points last year from all the goals I scored off of rebounds.
Let's not forget the wraparound shot.Oh that is a grand new feature to this game.I love the ability to go behind the night and try and tuck it in-between the goalie and the post.I've scored a few goals from behind the net.The analog deke is also a great new feature.I love the ability to be able to create my own deke, instead of a spin.
One of my favourite new features is the fact that your teammates will deflect and dive for pucks. The computer has scored a bunch of my goals by lunging and knocking a loose puck in the back of the net; or they deflect a shot that's going top-shelf right through the goalie's five hole. It's just wonderful.
Franchise mode is still here this year and it's got some nice features.Though they really need to load that sucker up some more next year if they want to stay with the "competition."
Hitz is everything I wanted and more.I can't wait till next year's version comes out.To me this is the number one hockey franchise out there.
Thanks for your time.
Natural Joe

Shadow of Rome Review

Shadow of Rome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Wow! I have to say, this game has kept my growing by the second rearend glued to the couch ever since I got it in the mail.

SHADOW OF ROME is truley what a Gladiator game should be, with a great story to go along with it.

The opening scene leads you out into the arena and it quickly initiates you into the blood splattering, heart pumping fun.

The best thing about SHADOW OF ROME is the fact that the motion while you're fighting is surprisingly free. Your movement is not restrictive and the controls are fantasic. Dodging by rolling away at the last second as the MAUL drives into the sandy ground where you were a second ago. Numerous ways to fight, attack and kill. I keep finding more.

Holding up your bloody hands to the crowd and they throw you food, better weapons and... yes... an occasional ROSE. They really like it when you hold up a recently severed head.

SHADOW OF ROME sometimes leaves the arena, to fill in backstory and you take on another character who is trying to discover and prove to everyone that the wrong person is set to be executed for the assassination of JULIUS CAESAR.When it does this, I won't lie, I'm slightly disappointed because I want to go back to the arena... but... all in all... the story makes the battles in the arena that much more intense and meaningful.

This is a fantastic game! Oh... did I mention the arena of Tigers?

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology Review

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Alpha Anthology, is so far the best port of any Street Fighter collection. It includes five games (SF Alpha, Alpha 2, Alpha 2 Gold, Alpha 3, and Gem Fighter), as well as two unlockable games (Hyper SF Alpha and a "bonus" version of SF Alpha 3).
The graphics and music of the five titles are perfect, just like the original arcade games themselves. If you have a wide-aspect ratio TV, you'll be treated to full arcade goodness - if not, you can modify the aspect ratio so that it fits a standard TV. Controls are also flawless, much like those of the Anniversary Collection.
The unlockable games are as follows:
"bonus" SF Alpha 3: It's SF Alpha 3 with more fighting styles, and all (most?) the Street Fighter characters, drawn Alpha-style. This includes characters that have never before made it into Alpha games - like Balrog and Fei Long, and some that are brand new. When played alone, this game is very difficult.
Hyper SF Alpha: Very similar to SF Alpha 3 (in fact, I'm not sure what the exact differences are, in terms of gameplay), but can only be played against another opponent. Includes the same characters as "bonus" SFA3.
In addition, all Alpha games include a Versus mode with full win/loss tallying, a Dramatic Battle mode - in which two players (Human/Human or Human/CPU) simultaneously take on a single CPU player and a Survival mode, which places you against opponent after opponent, refilling only a portion of your life bar after each match.
To sum it up, the Alpha Anthology is the best SF collection Capcom has released. Here's to hoping that the Darkstalkers and Marvel series will follow a similar suit.

Metal Slug Anthology Review

Metal Slug Anthology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After numerous delays, SNK has finally brought the Metal Slug Anthology to the PS2. This game has already been out for a few months on the Wii and for about a month on the Sony PSP, but the PS2 version is the best version to get of this game.

Think of Metal Slug as Contra on steroids/crack and you'll have a proper understanding of what all of these games are about. For the most part, you run to the right side of the screen laying waste to everything in your past while rescuing hostages and sometimes getting access to vehicles called Metal Slugs to cause even more damage. Most of the game is spent running and shooting, but they also spice things up with some shooter type segments in which you're in a flying vehicle of some sort (and at one point a small submarine type thing).

Basically, you get all 7 proper Metal Slug games on one disc (well, really 6 as Metal Slug X was a re-working of part 2 that fixed most of the extreme slow down problems of Metal Slug 2), all are emulated almost perfectly from the original SNK Neo-Geo system ROM's.The only slight downside is that there is some in game loading when you finish one area of a level and are heading to the next area. The game will pause for about 1 to 3 seconds (though the music will keep going) while the game loads the next area. While some purists will decry this and say that it ruins the game, it only breaks up the breakneck pace just the very slightest and was kind of unavoidable.

The games are slightly letterboxed with black bars on the left & right side of the TV screen to approximate the original arcade screen size.

As for the games themselves, I found them to be arcade perfect ports all the way disregarding the slight load times. Some people are upset that they didn't just put the PS2 ports of 3, 4, and 5 that have already been out for the PS2either in the states or Japan on this collection instead of emulating the original arcade ROM's, but I think that these emulations do a much better job of preserving every single frame of animation as well as the proper arcade feel of the original Neo-Geo titles. There is some slow down at times, but this was present in the original games and can actually help out in hectic parts at times.

The animation is the most important thing of Metal Slug games and since these are great emulations of the original ROM's, nothing is missing in this regard. The sound/music is also duplicate flawlessly. The Metal Slug games have always had great music anyway.

Some people have complained that there is a lag in the controls at times, but I've played through all 7 games and found that the control is dead on.

The first Metal Slug feels a little more sluggish compared to the rest of the games, but that's more due to how they chose to animate your character when you turn from left to right as well as jumping.Never did I die as a result of some lag time in the controls, everything just felt right in that regard.

Probably the best part of this collection is the fact that Metal Slug 6 (which is a fairly recent game) has been included on this game. I would say that next to part 3 (which was ported to the US X-Box but not the US PS2), it's the best game of the series by far.

Extras include unlockable art galleries when you beat each game, you can listen to the music of each game and there's a text interviewwith some of the original game developers about the Metal Slug series.

They could have maybe included some of the combat school extras from the Neo Geo CD versions of 1 & 2, but you really can't complain too much.

Each game takes around 45 to 60 minutes to beat, which might not be seen as much, but these are more of old school games in which the point was a quick burst of pure pick-up-and-play gameplay. But when you combine all 7 of these in one package for only 40 dollars, you can't beat it for pure adrenaline pumping fun.

The PS2 version corrects most of the errors of the PSP and Wii versions as well as minimizing the in game load times.

Highly recommended!

PlayStation 3 AV Cable Review

PlayStation 3 AV Cable
Average Reviews:

You're buying a first-party cable here, so expect to retain that cherished first-party feeling Sony puts into all their products. I bought this cable to hook up to my postage-stamped size TV and everything worked accordingly. The aluminum finish on the cable connectors are a beautiful touch and really make my $10 TV look amazing. My only gripe about using AV with a PS3 is that you're going to get what you paid for. The PS3's interface wasn't designed to be on a 19" SD TV - actually any SD TV - and those little 12pt lines of text that look gorgeous in 1080p are going to be microscopic to the point of squinting on most SD TV. It's a crime to use such an incredible machine on such a terrible piece of technology, so if you're purchasing this cable for daily use you should really think twice about what you're using your PS3 for.

Good game, great graphics for ps2. Good Storyline for each character but it gets old over time. The really cool characters that you want to play with doesnt have a storyline. You just can play them in merancary mode or free mode. Mercanary mod(or however you spell it) is good but the people ou want to hire as your sidekicks come up first and you cant hire them because you dont have any rewards coins or whatnot. But the mode is good played it all the way through with two players. One till you get pick for an army and the other as a loaner who gets hired. both good. There is gone glitch that made me mad. The glitch is sometimes you play it and you kill the leader and you stay there and cant kill anything else or go to another site without losing what you did. But overlal Great game

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Review

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I must say Devil May Cry 3 is an incredibly awesome game. I loved the original DMC immensely, and like a ton of other people, I was very disappointed with the sequel. This game lives up to the original, and expands upon it in every way.

DMC3 is a prequel to the series and focuses on the relationship between Dante and Vergil. The game actually has story behind it, unlike the other two games that felt like they had a little story tacked on. The cut-scenes are great, and everything's still over-the-top and cheesy, but in a good way. With the new Style moves, the game has depth beyond button-smashing; it even encourages it with Combo style points that are awarded for your flashiness on screen, and are decreased as you use the same move over and over, much like in the Tony Hawk games.

This game is extremely difficult. The PS2's Ninja Gaiden. The American "Normal" mode, which is the only difficulty mode available in the beginning, is the Japanese "Hard" mode. After you get your butt kicked a few times, the "Easy" mode becomes unlocked, which isn't that much easier. Trust, this game is freakin' hard. Your skill, reflexes, and brain will definitely be up to the test with this one.

The graphics are completely redone and it shows. Nice graphics and special effects, and the levels are greatly detailed and the gothic theme is superb. On the sound front, the music really pumps you up and puts you in the midst of the action. Sound effects fit the bill, especially melee clings and clangs.

Replay value for this game is pretty good, since with the different Styles (with two unlockables), you can play through completely different every time. The multiple difficulty levels also add to the replay, along with secret missions and weapons. Seriously, this game is going to eat up a lot of your time, and you're going to love it.

Overall, this is an extremely fun game, and I'm glad Capcom did the series right with this one. If you like action games, pick it up. But if you get frustrated easily, skip it since you'll be dying. A lot.

Yep, I can remember back in the day when the Playstation just came out and this was the first game i got back when the PS1 games came in those bulky cardboard cases instead of the smaller jewel cases. Well, this game is still a blast to play after all these years and is easily one of my favorite games of all time. This one had all the perfect levels and the perfect balance of characters set in a darker tone than the other games had besides TM:Black of course. I liked how each level had some destructible environments as well as the inside cockpit view in the cars. The stories for each of the characters were all interesting and made you want to play through with each character. Overall, this is a great game that will have you playing for quite a while and while your at it, check out TM2 which is an amazing game as well. You should especially check this one out if your a newer fan to the series and want to see the games roots.

Gallop Racer 2004 Review

Gallop Racer 2004
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With the challenge from G1 Jockey the people at Tecmo got busy on improving Gallop Racer. They've taking some ideas from both G1 and GR2003 and combined them. As all other horse games are, it's very addicting. Yet with G1 you end up getting bored eventually since there is no breeding and no chances to unlock different areas or functions. I liked G1's actual racing feel more than 2003, but GR2004 is majorly improved in that area. You can now feel the ride of the horse more in GR2004 (like in G1 Jockey). The added feel of the pumping of the horses head is a much needed improvement. Another major change in the new game is the actual use and feel of the reins. The horses are more realistic while turning (albeit more difficult and less machine like). Like all new games it takes awhile to get the timing of the "stretch spurt" down. The main thing Tecmo has taken from G1 is the fact that you have to bargain and interact with trainers for your rides. This is a very complete horse racing game. Also you can, and need to bet on races to earn extra gold (you can't bet on races you are in). You need the extra gold to buy, and unlock other areas. GR2004 still has great graphics, and has much better "in race" sound effects. As for the Background music (while they offer a decent variety) I just found it much more enjoyable with the music all the way off. Lastly, Quarter Horse great announcer Ed Burgart gives the call! I can't wait to get home and play some more!!!

R-Type Final Review

R-Type Final
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So it's come to this, has it?
One of the most lauded side-scrolling shooter series in history has reached its last chapter.Irem's appropriately named R-Type Final has come to the PS2 thanks to Eidos' Fresh Games label, and it is a bittersweet occurrence. On one hand, Irem has said that this game marks the end of the venerable R-Type series. On the other, it's more than a fitting curtain call for the franchise.
The basic gameplay hasn't really changed much throughout the series.RTF is not a manic, reflex-frying bullet-dodger like last year's Gamecube masterpiece, Ikaruga. It's a more methodically paced, strategic game that feels different from most shooters. For one thing, R-Type has always been less about score and more about simple survival.Enemies approach from all sides, from waves of drones to screen-filling bosses. You won't dodge incoming fire as much as plan your progress, find and take advantage of tiny safe zones, discover weak spots, and time your counterattacks.R-Type tests your memory, reflexes, and anticipation, and can be demanding. You will have to learn attack patterns, measure to the pixel where to wedge your ship, and learn to manipulate the infamous Force Module (the ubiquitous detachable satellite that is immune to enemy fire). There is a measure of trial-and-error here, but the reward of reaching a new level or taking out a troublesome boss always makes the effort worthwhile.R-Type Final sticks to these well-worn conventions, but this is more than a simple case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
One major improvement is in the technical department. The last installment in the series, R-Type Delta (PSone), was a fantastically realized creation that sported some incredible level and creature design, some of which were updated versions of bosses and enemies from the original R-Type.RTF continues this tradition. There is a level that consists entirely of travelling along one huge spacecraft, taking it apart piece by piece.Fans will recognize this, and love it.Bydo mutants appear on all sides, and you'll battle mechanical, organic, and cyborg foes, all amidst a beautiful shower of effects and scenery. While there's no doubt that this is the best-looking R-Type, it still retains the details that identify the series. And don't worry - the occasional slowdown can actually be a help.Delta's speed control also returns, and the game has five difficulty levels. The easier levels will drag a bit for the shooter veteran, but jack it up to the insane "R-Typer" to experience the game as Irem intended.
There are, however, a new feature or two that must be mentioned. The first is branching levels.Depending on your performance within levels, you may visit one of several different sequences. It doesn't feel added on or superfluous, keeping the levels flowing like nothing happened. But it is a welcome addition, especially when considering the other, more drastic new feature.
R-Type Final has around a hundred ships to fly. That's right:100.Quite a difference from Delta's mere four! The ships vary wildly, from recon versions to transforming fighters, each with their own unique weapons.New craft are unlocked by performing various in-game tasks, like total flight time with specific ships or completing branching paths. This gives the game quite a bit of replay value, as unlocking all of them will take many hours. Some of the ships aren't nearly as cool as others, and some verge on being overpowered, but the constant reward process keeps you motivated.
You can now also customize your ships. Before you fly, you can pick ship & canopy color, missile type, bit type, etc. This helps you stick to your own style of play, and keeps the game fresh and interesting. How you equip your ship can have a lot of influence on how the game plays.
Yet another new feature is the A.I. Battle mode.Rather than being a head-to-head two-person battle, this lets you pit your ships against a friend's (or the game's A.I.) in computer controlled combat. It's fun to fool around with, but you'll more than likely be done with it quickly.
Irem says R-Type Final is the ultimate installment in the series, a "Thank You" to R-Type fans everywhere. It's hard to argue either point. While there will undoubtedly be those who question the new additions to the formula, in the end, RTF stands as a brilliant modern dedication to one of the premiere side-scrollers.It is sad to see the series end, but what a wicked way to go out, indeed.
Thank YOU, Irem.

Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits Review

I have been interested in this game recently, and I finally gave in and bought it.It is well worth every penny.I have been a major RPG fan for years, and this one is high on my list now.I think the most powerful and recommendable part about this game is its story. It is a story that is TRULY epic.I remember thinking to myself at one point that the plot twists in this game seem more like something from Shakespeare or mythology than the standard, run of the mill RPG.The issues of racism, hate, and prejudice are all handled so well in this game, and it makes the characters much more interesting than just powerful heroes. The story is also very seldomly predictable.I like this a lot because some recent RPGs have been so easy to predict, like FFX.With a couple of thoughts, about 90% of the storyline could be foreseen after reaching only about the half-way point of the game.I think that this RPG does not fall to this error at all.
Also, I really like the battle system in this game.It is really similar to FF Tactics. The style is move around and attack. It keeps the turn based style a lot more interesting than usual. It is a definitely refreshing change.
I also loved the music and graphics in this game.It is completely stunning.
The only drawback is that there are no side-quests (unless you want to fight in arenas to unlock secret characters, which there are two of), but the story runs so smoothly that they really aren't necessary.
I hope that many of you will buy this game and enjoy it as I have.
