This game is great if you like racing and blood and gore.In this game you can either use a controler,or the keyboard. There are 3 way of completing a level(each set is called a group)by killing all peds.,wasting all the cars,or going through all the check points(or lap)a certent amount of times. You have a lot of cars and when you get the right amount of credits you can the one you want, but only if you find it in the race your racing. You nave boxs and a type of barrel filled with either a power-up or something that happens to your car, peds.,or your oppenets. The red box has something to do with the people running around that you hit(be sure to get drunk peds. cause thats the funnest). The barrels have to do with your car.I don't know how many levels there are since I haven't completed it.You should try it.

Blade 2 Review

Blade 2

I have to say that i am completely byaste with this game as i have a thing for the old Blade. So in fairness i shall try to write a fair review without going into too much of my obsession with the man with fangs they call the Daywalker.
The game has faults, lets say it and lots of them. Graphcailly this is 5 years behind the times if not more and the repative nature of the game can irk some but its just so much fun to play.
For me this is gameplay over style and i really enjoyed the GAMEPLAY here. The very different combat system is quite good and takes very little time to adjust to and allows you to kick vamps from all directions.
I mean there aint much too it. Walk in a room and fight/or blast/or cut yah way through vamp baddies. Do this over and over again. However, some of the scenes are great. As mentioned one of the most memorable sets from this game is the disco and its a pity there ain't more like this cause it rocked. I guarrentee this will be yah favourite part of the game as you hear the music get louder and louder as you approach the floor.
All the AI disintercrates when killed like the movie and Blades one-liners are there.
The storylines (there all mission based) arent that exciting and Whistler gets annoying but once again the gameplay outweighs these few nuisnaces.
I won't say anymore cause its all been said but if you can pick this game up cheap do it cause its fun and you can play it once, put it away for a couple of months and then get it out again.
A faulty game but hell, its fun, has some of the Blade coolness and has some great music that will have you humming as you play...
So yeah, it has its faults but tis fun with a captial F. If u want graphically enhanced gameplay get Splinter Cell or Metal Gear Soild 2. If you want some fun without all the extras get Blade 2.

Product Description:
Blade II is an action-adventure game that allows players to take on the role of Marvel's half-vampire, half-human superhero on a quest to save the human race. As Blade, players must make maximum use of his special abilities, weapons, and martial arts moves to stop the vampire nation's quest to create an all-new form of super vampires known as Reapers. The game's revolutionary multidirectional fighting system will allow players to take on blood-sucking enemies as they attack from all directions. Visual effects add to the game's realism as vampire foes are obliterated.

Dungeon Keeper Review

Dungeon Keeper
Average Reviews:

I really enjoyed the wicked genre of the game. Some people hate the fact that you start from scratch, but what are the odds that you'll find an underground empire that you don't have to fight for or build yourself. The real trick is keeping your minions from desserting because they have sence of creature comforts to and you have to pay them (what you thought they'd just work for you putting their life at stake with no cash income?) and keep them from warring amongst themselves because they have natural enemies. This game is really humorous (ever slap a bile demon) the creatures reactions to certains actions are normally quite funny. One word of advice never sacrifice/slap the horned reaper. if you sacrifice it the creatures will desert with the tought that you're an idiot for sacrificing the best demon. If you slap him he'll go into a killing frenzy killing everything in sight until is but a bloody wasteland before him this is actually quite funny to watch,but...

Sometimes you just need to express your dark side. In Dungeon Keeper, you're the boss of a horrible, rotten-smelling dungeon, and you must keep all of your loathsome, demonic creatures in line. If that weren't enough to keep you busy, your lair is continually invaded by hoards of idealistic "heroes" wanting to slay you, proclaim a triumph over evil, and go back to a village feast in their honor. What's an evil boss to do? Unleash your minions, set deadly traps, cast spells, and punish them with your torture devices. And most of all, teach those dumb do-gooders a lesson.

Dragon Age: Origins Review

Dragon Age: Origins
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I think most gamers are already aware of BioWare's pedigree, and they have stated that Dragon Age is the "spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate." Myself, the only thing I was worried about was EA's heavy hand in BW's back pocket, fortunately, this definitely does NOT seem to be the case.

Dragon Age: Origins is a very well thought out and then realized fantasy world. You start by making a choice... male or female and then - one of five different races (there are actually only three races, but elves and dwarves come in two different varieties each), one of three different classes (warrior, mage, or rogue) that will eventually branch off into one of four different specialties. Each choice has it's "Origins" in the form of a specific story line unique to each race with each class, obviously, taking a different approach to that story. I first played the human noble origin, and am now on the elves, then I'll do the dwarves... I'll take the race that I like playing the best and that will be my main character. (Seeming as there's an achievement for each Origin, it's rewarding to take this approach as well).

The graphics are incredible and the sound is just as incredible, I'm not actually sure that there is a way to play this game and *not* get immersed, no - lost, in it. I also like the controller scheme, it proved to be very intuitive once I spent a few minutes with it. There's only one action button (A) the other three are skill or talent specific with (RT) acting as a shift so you can get 2 sets of three commands (all mapable on the fly). On the other side (LT) pulls up a radial menu that lets you access most of your different commands - similar to how Mass Effect used radial menu's but this one is staked, after you select from the main tree you get a second radial to pick your specific action, and just like ME the radial menu pauses the game. I will do a full review when I get done with my first playthrough.

What I wanted to comment specificaly on was the collector's edition. Is the CE worth the extra money? To me it absolutely was. It's all packaged really nice in a metal case with a map and an extra DVD with a lot of content. On the DVD besides the gratuitous "Making of..." videos, game art, and other comentaries there is also a video strategy guide --by the lead designer at BioWare-- and it's really informative. Besides giving some sage advise on different character builds and play styles he also drops some hints as to where to find some of the most powerful items in the game for each class. My favorite part of the Collector's Edition, however, is the extra in-game content. For opting with the CE you get 3 special items: a book, a staff, and a helmet (all heavily enchanted, of course), and you also get the 'Blood Dragon' armor that will also be useable in Mass Effect 2 (how cool is that?) and it tops off with the 'Stone Prisoner' quest - please note that this quest is available for purchase seperately as DLC on BioWare's server, but it's not cheap. All in all I am very happy with the CE and I would recommend it over the standard version any day.

**edit 11/15/2009**
I have finished every origin plot line and opted for a female human rogue for my first playthrough. I'm maybe 1/3 of the way through it, I don't have a lot of time to play right now and when I do play I'm trying to cover all ground possible before I move on. I don't want to get too specific in case of spoilers, but I will say the only thing that I can find to complain about so far is a slight lack of depth as far as tactics that are offered and too many talents available compared to how many points you get to spend on them. I will say that BioWare has a good amount of possible tactics to apply to whichever character, BUT in order to get enough slots to make it really worthwhile you have to spend your talent points on tactics.

Personally, I am currently of the mind that there are way too many skills and talents and not enough points available to even end up with 1/3 of them by the end of leveling (it appears there is a level 20 cap *3.15*>there is no cap, level 20 is considered the first mature character level* but skills and talents could still use some an update). Then they make it not just individual talents to focus on, but in trees of four - this makes for some hard decisions when you level. This is a detraction for me because I'll end up micro-analyzing which skill/talent I should get instead of playing the game! Mages have it worst. They have a considerably larger spell tree than the warrior or rogue have for skill trees. Being that this is the only thing I have found thus far to have a serious gripe about I still contend that this is by far one of the better games to come along in a while.

**edited 03.15.10**
I have finished a thorough playthrough on the X360 and am about 1/3 through a PC playthrough. I maintain most of my original enthusiasm for this title. If I could revote I would make it a 4-star rating, but this is still a very solid addition to the rpg game realm. There is some definite shortcomings with the whole "tactics" style gameplay, which is almost surprising considering how much Bioware seems to have put into it - but its there. Mainly, as far as tactics go there's really only one option and that's have your warriors charge in and take'em downand leave spellcasters in the rear of the battlefield. You **as in the character you're controlling** can attempt to flank, but that's about it. Sadly there's no attempt at a stealthier style of gameplay and combat. Even so, battles can stil be enjoyable but it definitely leaves a hole in the combat system. My main complaint about DA:O is that **everything** is scripted, just try to surprise attack any enemy -- can-not be done. This is because combat is only initiated through the conversation options; unless its an attack on the map screen while traveling. You can't just attack somebody because you want to and this is almost unforgivable. Hopefully with the sequel to this they will change that. Currently I am waiting to play Awakenings and Return to Ostagar, I decided to wait to play RtO until Awakenings came out and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I have enjoyed this title mostly, except for the combat hangups which I really hope they fix.

Bethesda's current stance is that they have become a publishing house and wont be making games anymore - Fallout's next game has gone to another designer (Obsidian) and there is reportedly *not* going to be an Elder Scrolls 5 (I was completely floored by this). This is going to leave a huge gap in the fantasy rpg genre which Dragon Age could definitely make a grab for the gold at, but for me they really need to re-address their whole combat system to allow you to attack or not when you want to and have better control of your party and actually have some tactical options: flanking, 2nd wave, surprise attacks, etc. Without a new TES I will definitely be paying attention to what Bioware does with this title.

**edited 05.23.10**
***CHANGED 5STAR RATING TO 4STAR RATING***

^^^^Great news about the previous comment block^^^^ Pete Hines and Todd Howard were being misquoted (check out the forums at Bethsoft if you're interested), there will definitely be a TESV by Bethesda Game Studios - they are just not even going to speculate on its arrival or any multi-player games.

I definitely want to see where Bioware takes Dragon-Age though - what they did with Mass Effect was simply incredible and revolutionary (I am not aware of any other sequel that lets you port your previous character into it). I am thoroughly intrigued by Morrigan (voice acting by Claudia Black definitely sends it over the top) and what it seems like she's up to, in fact the whole plot of the DA story rests on her lovely shoulders now - IMO.

Return to Ostagar was OK, but definitely *not* worth the wait - it was originally slated for a "just in time for the holidays" late Nov./early Dec.'09 release date. It doesn't seem like enemies scale with player progression either. I blazed through Ostagar with a level 23 rogue and darkspawn were bouncing off me, I guess after defeating the arch-demon on hardest very little else will seem challenging.

I am about 1/2 way through Awakenings with mixed-emotions, not that anything about it has been bad -- I just can't seem to 'get into it' as much as I did with Origins, although there's a new *play as the darkspawn* (can't remember what they named it) mod out now so maybe I can get back into it.

**edit 05.23.10** addendum to the addendum, changed star rating (was 5, now 4)
**edit 03.15.10** final review addendum
**edit 11.21.09** grammatical correction

Thanks for reading and game on....

Theinclusion of subtitle "Origins" in the game's title refers to the sixunique origin stories available to new heroes as a new game begins. NBA Jam 2004 Review

NBA Jam 2004
Average Reviews:

If you remember and liked the NBA Jam series for Super Nintendo you'll love the PS2 version of this game. This isn't regular basketball, it's 3 on 3 with nothing but slams, ally oops and other trick shots. If you like games such as NFL Blitz or NBA Street you'll love this game.
The graphics are absolutely awesome, players get tired in this game and show it with hands on knees and heavy breathing. You get the option to replace players at halftime, which is a great feature.
There's also a tournament feature where you can pick a team from today and play teams from the past. It starts in the 1950s in black and white and you go through the years up to the present day. It's an absolutely amazing feature, the black and white game play and commentary that sounds like it's from the 50s is very cool.
The only drawback I've found to the game is the AI seems to get an advantage to catch up if you get ahead of it too far in the game. I've picked the Lakers which is the best team in the game and not been able to blow out a mediocre rated team such as the Jazz.

If you have gotten to at least Land 3 in the original B&W, this expansion won't dissapoint you. It is really creative, and I like te new creatures (Rhino, Chicken, Alligator). The trials are pretty fun, yet some of them are quite annoying. The biggest problem with this game is that it won't upgrade your original Black and White. This Really ticked me off, cuz I was hoping to beat the game with an alligator. However, like I said before, it's still really fun until you've beaten it.

Being a long-time fan of Civilization, and Sid Meier games in general, I admit I felt a certain trepidation when first playing the game. The interface and style of play were so reminiscent of Civilization I&IIthat I thought Alpha would be just another clone in a a long line ofthem.(Call to Power comes to mind...)But Alpa Centauri surprised me.Ithas a depth in story that was lacking in previous games, and the charactersare all fully fleshed out in their beliefs and speech patterns.FromDeirdre the Planer-friendly enviromentalist to Morgan Freeman the ruthlessprofit-driven marketeer, they all have their own definite agenda.Andunlike previous games, your enemies can think.Diplomacy and war go handin hand, with the computer working together behind your back or deciding tomake war on your allies so another force can strike in your blind spot, theAI is sophisticated enough to provide a challenge to the most jaded player. Difficulty settings are easily adjusted, with easy being, well, easy, andthe hard setting can make you weep to see it all crumble around you. AlphaCentauri continues to astound me, even after multiple games it still feelsnew and engaging. So go buy it already.

I can't believe how many addle-brained nitwits have written negative reviews here. This is one of the most inventive, open-ended, and rewarding games I've EVER seen, and this is a guy who's played his fair share of video games, both console and PC.There's so much to do with this that you can literally entertain yourself for days on end with it.Heck, you can even play a special "Experimental Mode" if you like, create a sprawling colony of thriving, successful black or red ants, and then annihilate them with whatever sick, twisted device of mayhem you choose, whether it be a spray can, a legion of spiders, or a swarm of enemy ants.BWUAHAHAHA!!!

But even beyond the sadistic element to this, this game is wonderfully intriguing on every level. You get to create your own society as an ant, building up your family, helping them succeed, deciding on the behavior and caste of your colony to find the best formula, and conquering whatever foes may try to interfere with your plans for complete domination of the back yard!My description here doesn't even do it justice.Just PLEASE, do yourself a favor and check this one out.If you've got some neurons cracking up there, you'll get into this, big time.

WW II fighters was one of a pack of four combat flight simulator that came out together in the same one-year period. It proves to be the most beautiful and playable of them all.To start, the graphics arespectacular. They use direct 3D rendering and are completely customizable, allowing many different hardware configurations to run the game well.Thedetails, from explosions and tracer bullets to smoke trails, are stunning. The soundtrack is perhaps the best of any computer game. The music is wellcomposed and appropriate for each situation. The combat sounds enhance therealism of the game. For example, when an enemy barely misses you with hismachine guns, you'll hear the bullets sail past you.The game is alsovery playable and accessible to even the most casual simulator pilot.Aunique camera view in the lower right hand corner is padlocked to yourtarget and indicates its bearing. This makes up for the limitation ofusing a computer screen to take the place of a three dimensional world. The fact that fighters in World War II had none of the onboard radar andavionics of a modern plane means that the simulation is simplified andhence more fun than many of the simulators for modern aircraft.Themissions are challenging, but do not really compose a persistent campaign. I highly recommend this game to those interested in combat flightsimulators. If you don't take my word for it, just try the demo and Ithink you'll be sold.

Falcon Joystick Review

Falcon Joystick
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, this thing is NOT a Wii type controller. What it is, is something completely new with enormous potential. The company is still in it's early stages in terms of games and "grips".The grip is the ball at the end of the 3 arms. There's a lot of development going on right now with creating new grips that are more ergonomic and useful, and there are about 40 games in development too (some of which look to be AWESOME btw).
The device does come with some mini games bundled, some are good, some aren't so good but really show off the Falcon's potential. My favorite is the snowboarding, the feedback and the gameplay in this one are awesome.
It comes with a tutorial, which will leave you giggling and your jaw on the floor. One part of the tutorial has a globe in the middle of the screen; you have a hand that you control with the Falcon and the Falcon won't move when the on-screen hand comes in contact with the edge of the globe. You can feel the contour of the globe, in THREE dimensions! The globe demo has about 8 or 9 different "textures"; one is "bumpy" where you can feel the hand bouncing over the bumps as you run it along the globe, another is "molasses" where you can put the hand through it and you feel the give...and it pops out the other end.Another is "magnetic", where you get your hand close to the globe and it pulls you toward it.It's completely realistic, you will NOT believe it until you try it.It also has a few other tutorials, like catching a baseball where you feel the ball from whichever direction you catch it from; swinging a ball around on a rubber band, the ball's momentum swings you around as it goes; and a slingshot where you feel the give as you pull it back.
One thing I was worried about when I saw a picture of this online was that it didn't look like it would hold up.There are motors in this thing, and most motors in electronic devices don't hold up very long. But, I gotta say, I'm impressed. This device is VERY sturdy. It looks cheesy, but the thing weighs about 30 pounds. It's built to last, don't worry about that.
PLUS, the customer service seems to be top of the heap.I had one minor problem with a game not working, and the CS rep asked to call ME to resolve the issue. Not only that, but the CEO of the company makes it a point to answer any question asked on the official Novint BBS.
Only a few gripes.First, the controller takes up a lot of space. It also needs more games and a better grip, but these ARE in development, so I'm excited to see how it plays out. There's a mod for Half Life 2, if you have this game;I don't, but heard it's amazing with the Falcon. The base is also a little bit of a concern because the Falcon can move due to the strength of the internal motors; again they're working on new bases to attach to the Falcon. The only other gripe, is that the games are download only; games have to be programmed to work with the Falcon due to it's revolutionary capabilities.Another thing that's in development now is a mod to use the Falcon as a mouse, so you could use it with anything that you would use a mouse for.Check out this device, you won't be sorry!

Product Description:
The Novint Falcon is an entirely new type of game controller. Replacing your mouse or joystick, the Falcon is, essentially, a small robot that lets you experience true virtual touch unlike any controller in history. The Novint Falcon lets you control a game in three dimensions, and also lets you feel high-fidelity three-dimensional force feedback. The Falcon controller moves right and left, forwards and backwards, like a mouse, but also moves up and down. When you hold the Falcon's detachable Grip and move your cursor to interact with a virtual object, environment, or character, motors in the device turn on and are updated approximately 1000 times a second, letting you feel texture, shape, weight, dimension, and dynamics. The Falcon lets you control and interact with games in a more realistic way, allowing you to develop real physical skill and muscle memory, adding a new dimension to gaming. The award-winning Novint Falcon makes virtual items and experiences feel real.Feel the weight of a basketball as you shoot it towards a hoop -- the momentum and impact as you swing a virtual golf club and strike a ball -- the recoil of a weapon - or the physical characteristics of virtual objects and environments.Unit Size -9 x 9 x 9 Weight -6 lbs

Dungeon Keeper 2 Review

Dungeon Keeper 2

We waited quite a while for Dungeon Keeper 2 to come out, and bought it immediately when it did. On one hand, it's great for a sequel. People who played DK1 will easily be able to pick up on moving units, building rooms, lining corridors with traps.
The graphics are better in the sense thatthey're more geared towards future development. Instead of pixel-basedgraphics, the creatures and rooms are now drawn with polygons. While thatmakes some of the monsters look clumsy, it does mean that future graphicswill be much smoother and cleaner.
Going down into your dungeon bypossessing a creature does not cause the creatures to turn into a cloud ofdots - the rooms you roam through are still crisp and easy to see. Roamingthrough your own dungeons is one of the true pleasures of this game, too!
There are only a few extra rooms - you'd have hoped for much morefrom a sequel that took this long to make. The casino is neat, if onlybecause a jackpot-winning minion starts dancing and singing when he wins.(Disco Inferno!)
Rooms have better graphics, though. The hen-houses inthe hatchery, the on-wall bookshelves and torture racks, everything shows asubtle touch.
If choosing between DK1 and DK2, I'd definitely recommendpeople get this game. The challenges and gameplay in DK2 are better thanDK1, and DK1 has many new extra features like Pet Dungeons.
New playerswill appreciate having a well crafted game that is a fun challenge, whileexperienced players will appreciate the subtle differences between the oldand new version.
Don't expect a masterpiece of Sequelhood, but do expecta fun strategy gaming experience that will last quite a while!

Clive Barker's Undying Review

Clive Barker's Undying
Average Reviews:

I have played many, many FPS games.Doom.Doom 2.Quake. Duke Nukem. Half Life.Aliens vs. Predator just to name a few.And none of them, not even Half-Life or AvP could have prepared anyone for this.
This game is terrifying beyond all belief. Not since Silent Hill has there been a game so utterly nerve wracking.I have played games that were designed to scare you, but this, from the mind of horror master Clive Barker, will have you trembling in your seat.Unexpected occurences, such as monsters bursting through walls, the ground suddenly falling out from under you, terrible shrieks that sound like they came from right behind you....you walk into a dark room and see nothing. The door slams shut, you turn around......the beast standing there will take your head off if you aren't fast enough!
Crisp, beautiful graphics that look great even on older video cards (such as Voodoo 3), and incredible sound effects make this game what it is.Very cool weapons, such as the Tibetan War Cannon which shoots a blast of ice at your enemies, and amazing looking spells, such as the ectoplasm, which fires bolts of pure energy at your enemies are just some of the weapons you will use. There is 'duel-weilding', where you hold your weapon in your right hand, and your left hand is free for spell casting.Spell power can be upgraded through 'Mana Wells' found throughout the game.Helpful items such as 'Ether Traps' can keep monsters at bay while you try to find your way out!
The story is rather good, but there are many events in the game that will get you sidetracked while you are trying to perform a task asked of you by one of the NPC's, and then all of a sudden you find yourself being led one way by something else when you are trying to go the other way.
There are some other annoying aspects, such as being unable to backtrack, so if you miss something, thats it, you've missed it.Doors will often shut behind you, and will be unable to be opened again. There are also many doors throughout the game that cannot be accessed until much later in the game, where you will find yourself scrambling around the many beautifully detailed areas in the game, trying to find them again. There are quite a few monster types in the game. However, at some parts, these monsters respawn at an overwhelming rate, and some of these creatures are VERY difficult to kill because of their unique skills.
The inventory system and weapon selection systems were rather annoying as well, with the '1' and '2' keys cycling forward and back through weapons respectively, and '3' and '4' to cycle through spells. There is a button that allows you to access a 'weapon wheel' where all weapon icons are displayed on screen, allowing you to pick which one you want. However, if you have to quickly switch weapons in a tense situation, both methods are rather difficult to pull off.
Despite those gripes, the game itself is very good. The monsters are scary, the ability to cast a spell that shows you things that are not normally there, such as ghosts and alterations in the scenery, which will help you understand the story, or just plain terrify you, add to the atmosphere and mood of the game.If you are a fan of horror and FPS games, this one is for you!Not for the weak of heart!Difficult controls, but all in all a good game!

Urban Chaos Riot Response Review

Urban Chaos Riot Response
Average Reviews:

At first, this game seemed different and fun.I enjoyed the first few levels, then it just seemed like I was doing the same thing over and over except this time you're at city hall, or a warehouse or a whatever. Each level starts with a live action news anchor report. You watch all of them at first until you realize it's just the same blah, blah, blah over and over again except this time she's taking about the city hall, or a warehouse or a whatever.I simply tuned out.The gameplay just got tired after awhile.

I guess I had a problem with the premise of the game as well.Thousands of identical hockey-masked terrorists with cleavers have taken over the city?Uh-huh...Hey, I can play along and immerse myself in the worlds of Halo and Half-life no problem. It just seems like if the game environment is supposed to be somewhat like the real world, then the game should be somewhat believeable.

Hey, if you've played every shooter on the Xbox and you're just looking for another quick and cheap adventure, by all means play Urban Chaos. But if you're already looking toward or playing Xbox 360 titles, this one just doesn't capture the imagination like some bigger titles.

Not bad, just okay.A better, recent shooter in the same price range I'd recommend is Rogue Trooper.

Oddworld Abe's Oddysee Review

Stop reading. Buy the game. This is one of the best games I have played for the PSX. The graphics are outstanding, the echoey sound effects give great ambiance, and it's really tough! The game is very well-designed inthat a lot of the tougher puzzles are hidden, so it's as difficult as youwant to make it. It's a bit gory, but the violence is more cartoony thananything else. The FMV movies are very, very good and smooth as well. Agreat game for kids and adults!
The only downside is that if you die, youoften have to complete a good portion of the level again. This is not aterribly bad thing, it's just a bit annoying in some of the tougherparts.
Really, it's a steal. You'll have loads of fun.

SimCity 4: Rush Hour Expansion Pack Review

SimCity 4: Rush Hour Expansion Pack
Average Reviews:

I love Rush Hour!
In many ways Sim City gets a whole new feel with Rush Hour. It is not only the much talked about U-drive-it feature, a new building set, or a few more transportation options - quite a lot of smaller changes were made that tremendously add to the gameplay!
First of all, the game runs a lot faster now on my computer(Yipee!).
Then I especially like the changes to the traffic simulation engine. Now you can see how and from where sims get to a building. Not only gives this more transparency to what is actually going on, it also gives the player a lot of feedback. Plus: the traffic simulation makes more sense now (sims now use the fastest instead of the shortest route - so your highways are no longer unused if the onramp is a few blocks away). So cool: now you see trucks clog the roads in industrial areas whereas residential suburban roads are packed with vans and SUVs.
Maxis also added different difficulty levels as well as new tutorials. If you play on easy you no longer need to spend 90% of your time on super-micromanagement tasks like adjusting the number of teachers in every school.
Many people think the U-drive-it feature is purely hype. Well, it is not THAT special. However, after an a while of laying out zones and roads it is always fun to just click on a mission and drive around the city in a police car with sirens on, pushing other cars off the road.
I heard somebody say he feels that Rush Hour breathes a lot more life into his city. And I totally agree. Now you see car accidents on big crossings, you do see trains (or the fancy monorail) bring in commuters from the suburbs in morning and evening hours. In many ways the city just feels more real and alive now.
Sim City with Rush Hour must be the most complex game ever - the sheer detail of what is simulated is breathtaking. And it is also a lot of fun. Intelligent and entertaining! Let's be honest: many things like avenues should have been included in the original game already. Now, with RH, Maxis adds so much to the game that it is hard to complain. I hope we'll see many more expansions like RH.
P.S.: no, i am not paid by Maxis, I am just a happy fan ;)

Alpha Centauri Review

Alpha Centauri
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I write this review well over a year after the game came out simplybecause I have to reiterate to those that may not have the game how greatit actually is. I say this, because even after a year, I am still playingAlpha Centauri. There are not very many games that interest me 3 monthsafter I beat them, much less a year. It is so satisfying on so manydifferent levels that whenever I need a break from another game, I'll spenda couple days exploring Alpha Centauri again. There are several differentways to win. You can conquer the planet through military might, be electedSupreme Leader by the Planetary Council, Corner the Energy (the gamescurrency) market, or the Ascent to Transendence, which is basically themost technologically advanced faction. Such parameters allow for variedstyles. Want to beat your neighbor senseless? OK. Are you sneaky and wantto forment revolts? You can do that to. Or you can buy off votes in theplanetary council with cash or technologies. But it is many of the smallthings that make this game shine. Alliances actually work - your friendswill help you when you need it, cut you off if you stab them in the back, and grow suspicious if you become to powerful. You can give away cities toreward a faithful vassal or pacify an enemy. If you commit atrocitiesagainst an enemy they will fight you to the last man. However, if you are anoble enemy, they will submit to your will and become your vassals. Suchsmall details are glorious in the otherwise "kill 'em all" worldof computer gaming. My few complaint with the games are niggling. On thehigher difficulty levels it seems you are battling with a hostile planetrather than smarter enemies - which seems a copout for what is otherwise arobust AI. Also, the end game can really drag. If you have conquered two orthree other factions and have a ton of cities to manage, a turn can take upto half an hour to manage everything. These small things aside, AlphaCentauri is brilliant game design at work. After a year I only wish othergame designers had taken a look at some of the options the Firaxis teamoffered.
