Voodoo Vince Review

Voodoo Vince
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have actually played the complete version of Voodoo Vince. I must say, this is a breath of fresh air on the shooter-heavy Xbox. This game has a high degreee of polish and personality from beginning to end. The gameplay, level design, puzzles, mood and even the music all work extremely well.
First, the character controls. Vince is really responsive and has almost no "laggy-ness." He turns, moves and jumps very easily. His basic moves are standard platformer fare: He runs, jumps, double-jumps, punches, spins and head butts his way through the game.
Vince himself is a hoot. The game is filled with sarcastic comments which make fun of other characters, Vince and the platformer genre. I thought the little animations Vince does when he gets bored were especially well done. His voice is sort of odd, sounding like that guy from the Man Show, but after a while it kind of grew on me.
Probably the biggest stand-out for me were the voodoo powers themselves. Since Vince is a voodoo doll, it okay to do bad things to him. Vince can get destroyed in all sorts of strange and funny ways. Some of these are "powers" which are basically highly animated smart bombs. Some are related to puzzles and boss battles, where finding a harmful, dangerous thing and turning it against Vince is how you beat the monsters. These are both clever and funny.
The levels are beautiful, and well designed. The platforming could get more tricky than I've seen for a while, but that's okay. Plunging into an unexpected pit had me a bit frustrated at times, but the game has a great auto-save feature which means you don't have to play very much over again if Vince dies.
There are lots of cool mini-games to be found in Voodoo Vince. At times, he gets to fly an airplane, drive a fanboat or jump around on a giant spring. There is even a totally insane boss battle where he rides a rat. I thought this gave the experience the right amount of variety and kept the basic gameplay from getting monotonous.
The game has a lot of in-game cut scenes, where Vince deals with other characters, gets his latest mission or some pay-off for doing something right. These were also superbly animated.
The music gets a special nod. It's mostly old-style jazz, but it changes over the course of the game perfectly to fit the southern, New Orleans setting. I don't think I've ever heard stuff like this in a video game.
The fact that this is a game which might appeal to younger gamers, plus the fact that it's on the light, humorous side means it might not appeal to some serious gamers. But I thought there was a lot to like in Voodoo Vince and I heartily recommend it.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Review

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Average Reviews:

All told, the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers game for the SNES is not as good as some, better than others.Bandai released four Power Rangers titles for the system, and of those four, the best has to be Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie, followed by Power Rangers Zeo: Battle Racers (known on Amazon.com as merely Power Ranger Racers). The original MMPR title, the one you're reading about here, falls below the level of those two, but still manages to stand above the fourth game, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition.
This is basically your standard side-scrolling beat-em-up, only without the ability to move "up and down" on the screen as you could in games like Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time or Batman Returns.Your character, one of the original five rangers (Jason, Kimberly, Zach, Billy and Trini) runs to the right, punching and kicking putties until he/she encounters the boss of the level. At that point, you morph into a Power Ranger and the boss vanishes from sight (without so much as a fight) and you continue to work your way through the next two-thirds of the level, this time armed with your specific power ranger weapon.
Sometimes you'll encounter a unique situation; level three places you in the sewers and storm drains of Angel Grove, forcing you to swim and crawl your way out.The second level drops you in a factory and makes you contend with machines and debris as you climb up a series of girders. But for the most part, you're just going to be running to the right and beating the heck out of putties.
Control is tight, the graphics are nice, and the music is... adequate. At least the sound effects are good. The only problem is that it's just not as fun as it should be - it's kind of repetitive.Okay, it's very repetitive.A greater variety of attacks would be nice, but you can only jump and attack, duck and attack, or stand and attack.Yes, you can throw your enemies, but that's as close as you get to anything different than just hitting the Y button hard and fast.A two-player option would've been a godsend... unfortunately, this is a one-player game, so you're going to have to go it alone. For the sake of some variety, at least you get to choose a new ranger for each level and partake of two Megazord fights towards the end of the game.
Ultimately, it's too repetitive and a little too easy to be great, especially with the password system allowing you continue from the level where you left off at any time. But serious fans of the original team will probably find a lot to like, because it's still an above-average action side-scroller.If you own an SNES and you love the Rangers, though, you could certainly do better; why not pick up Battle Racers or, better yet, The Movie instead?

I recently bought a copy of this collection and noticed that the box said The Lion King II Gamebreak at the bottom but, It was only the Timon and Pumbaa's Jungle game included, I was a little dissapointed but, oh well. The three games were pretty fun, especially the Timon and Pumbaa's Jungle Games. It relieved a little stress after a long day; maybe it was the music? I thought the The Lion King II Active play was a little childish but I still liked the activities as it was a little bit challenging, not really but, kind of. I would say the most educating game of the trio was th Adventures in typing with Timon and Pumbaa, as it also taught proper typing postures and other miscellaneous but, important skills (I think I need brush up on my typing skills). I think this collection is great for the whole family because the different games are for different age levels and it also was fun for me, so... I think it was a great buy and very worthwhile; it includes three games, where could you find another deal like that! Long Live The Lion King!

Army Men: RTS (Real Time Strategy) Review

Army Men: RTS
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Army Men RTS at first seems to be just another addition to the Army Men franchise. However, once the player has delved into this deep fulfilling world created by 3DO and Pandemic Studios, one can not help but compare this title to an onion, constantly revealing new layers of wonder, while making the player cry with enjoyment in knowing that the feast waiting ahead will be greater than the splendor currently in front of them.
Andrews has directed this magnum opus with great gusto, and has counterplayed Payne's and Iarossi's superlative programming genius with Welch's undeterring artistic vision. Harding has leveraged the resulting combination to create believable, lush worlds that add to the outstanding gameplay flow.
I find the comment below me rather amusing, since it took quite an effort to get this game over a month before release. To just sign off with "it suxx0rs 3d0 lame" seems to be an unfair cop-out at what is potentially the best Army Men title I have played. However, the effort of procurement was definitely worth it. I recommend anyone with a vague interest in strategy, or even just wanting a relaxing blast-em-up pick up this title.
I will be honestly suprised if this title doesn't make many magazines "Best Of" awards. I have only one thing to say - Bravo, 3DO, Bravo.

Gallop Racer Review

Gallop Racer

This is one of the best games I have played, ever. I was afraid at first that it might be more fanciful than I wanted, that maybe the horses were not even going to be horses at all, robots perhaps. But thankfully, theyare truly horses. This is a most realistic game, with conditions such assloppy tracks, getting bumped and dealing with getting boxed in.Most funof all is winning the big races, because by the time you accomplish such athing, you have truly put in your time with eating a lot of dust. Yougradually build up a stable of better and better champs, and are invited torace in previously unknown races. Special trophies are awarded to the besthorses, and when they retire, they are placed in a"hall-of-fame", where their stats are memorialized.A knowledgeof horse-racing is almost a must before playing this game, such as knowingthe difference between a dirt and turf track, a sprinter and a distancehorse, and understanding how horses peak differently. Handicapping alsocomes into play. All in all, this is a most rich, educational game. Perhapsmost of all, I have learned how much jockeying can make or break a race, nomatter how good the horse.

Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time (Collector's Edition) - Nintendo 64 Review

Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time - Nintendo 64
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)
(1998)con., Nintendo 64, pub. Nintendo, dev. Nintendo EAD)

There are few things I could say about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time that have not already been mentioned by critics, fans, journalists and Nintendo enthusiasts in some form or another at some point in time. The reason being is that Ocarina of Time IS (whether you love it or hate) one of the most praised, well-respected and highly regarded video games in the history of the industry. The game also remains my favorite video game of all-time.It is my intention to discuss certain aspects of the game that I find enjoyable, as well as a few of the facets of the game that I did not take pleasure in.This narrative is more of a personal reflection of the game than a critical review. Please keep that in mind while reading.Let's get stared!

The production/creation of this title was no easy task for our old friends over at Nintendo. Not only is there pressure enough in creating a title from the Legend of Zelda series, as a great portion of the gaming public hold the franchise in very high esteem and expect much for each new title, but the series had to also evolve and incur a drastic change from the familiar and successful 2-D realm to the (at the time) very new and unpredictable world of 3-D.Fortunately, Nintendo had some prior success in this transition process as their most famous and beloved mascot, Mario, had made the "jump" from the traditional and beloved 2-D platforming to the realm that is 3-D.Super Mario 64 launched with the Nintendo 64 console in the U.S. on September 25, 1996.The result? Most video games fans and critics, alike, refer to it as one of the greatest video games of all-time.

It worked for Mario, would it work for Zelda?

Mr. Miyamoto and his development team put a tremendous amount of time and effort into the completion of this game.It took some three years and a staff of over 200 folks to complete this daunting task.It had been 6 years since a Legend of Zelda console game was released (The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past SNES-1992) and the Zelda fans were starving for a new title. After all the screen-shots, after all the articles and features, after all the hype and after many delays, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was finally released in the U.S. to the masses on November 23, 1998.

Was it worth the wait? You better believe it.

Critically and publicly acclaimed, Ocarina of Time literally changed the face of the gaming world and completely altered the rules, the mechanics and the overall style and structure of video games as we know it. The 3-D realm seemed a perfect fit for the style of gameplay fans of the Legend of Zelda franchise have come to know and love.It remained as faithful to its 2-D predecessors as it possibly could and enhanced, refined and completely polished the Zelda series and, in essence, brought the franchise into the future of gaming. It remains a truly magnificent accomplishment and an absolute most welcomed edition to this extraordinary series.

It is my strong belief and conviction that the quality of gameplay has always remained the most redeeming quality of any video game.In this day and age of progressively scanned imagery and (soon to be) high-definition quality graphics, along with orchestrated music, full-blown original/compiled soundtracks (comparable to those of major Hollywood motion pictures) all presented in glorious, THX certified (some do) digital surround sound (a lot do), I have always been of the opinion that the quality gameplay mechanics, which are the foundation for the success of the industry, of games would, in a way, "take a back seat" to the aforementioned aspects that seem to be dominating ALL forms of our entertainment.

Don't get me wrong.I'm as much of a tech nut as the next guy.I just don't want the gameplay quality to suffer as a result of "dolling" up the game. The game must be enjoyable. The game must be fun. I don't care how it looks, how it sounds or what the content is - if playing the game is not entertaining, if the controls are stiff, unresponsive and hinder the experience, if the overall gameplay mechanics are not up to par, I don't care how many copies of the game sold, it will be a flop to me.I firmly believe that Nintendo understands this concept. They believe the fact that solid, innovative gameplay is the key to a truly rewarding and fun gaming experience and they trust enough in their fans and the general gaming public to recognize this.Needless to say, Ocarina of Time is one of the best examples of perfection in terms of quality gameplay mechanics on any console to-date.

Playing Ocarina of Time is a joy from start to finish. It's the perfect blend of solid 3-D action/adventure/RPG elements with a superb fighting system, spectacular environments, nearly endless amounts of exploration, quirky and fun NPCs, challenging dungeons & puzzle solving, awesome boss battles, an incredibly well structured story and wonderful in-game sound effects and catchy, hummable songs that are enjoyed by me and others to this very day. *Hugs OoT Soundtrack*

It is a grand and epic game that completely immerses you in a way that no other that I have ever played. This sense of immersion occurs, whether you are exploring the brilliantly designed and unique dungeons, riding your loyal steed, Epona, across the immense Hyrule Field or gazing upon the magnificent and majestic Hyrule Castle. You feel right in the middle of the action and excitement. You become part of the journey; you become part of the quest. You, in essence, become part of the legend.

Gameplay

The controls and the overall gameplay are as close to perfect as I have ever experienced. Two essential innovations that require specific mention are the camera system and the lock-on targeting system. What can I say? They are revolutionary. Most in-game cameras can often become a nuisance. They obstruct, rather than help. The in-game camera in Ocarina of Time never misses a beat.It never hinders the player's progress or perspective and serves as a tremendous aid during your adventure.Bottom line: I have never played a console game with a better camera system than Ocarina of Time.

In conjunction with the camera, the lock-on targeting system proves essential to your enjoyment of the game and will prove very useful while controlling Link in battle against the assortment of different enemies you will encounter during your quest. You simply tap a button on the control deck (Z-button) and this action allows you to "lock-on" to any particular enemy (or NPC) you are looking to engage (or talk to). The camera will stay on your target, retaining its over the shoulder position and allows you to circle your enemies and slash at them while side-stepping, back-flipping and shielding yourself from the attacks. It makes for a much more enjoyable and satisfying experience. The lock-on targeting does NOT make the game easier or minimize the difficulty. It simply serves as an important "weapon" for the player that allows them to strategically outline an attack plan and tactically take on multiple enemies in an efficient manner.

Both are most welcomed and most appreciated additions to the series.I must warn you though - after experiencing the Ocarina of Time camera and lock-on targeting, you will truly be spoiled for the rest of your gaming career.

In addition to the camera system and lock-on targeting, Ocarina of Time also managed to redefine the controls of the 3-D adventure with their introduction of the context sensitive (B) button. There a many actions Link will need to utilize during his quest. You will need to: pull, push, crawl, read, dive, climb, jump, talk and myriads of other actions. The context sensitive (B) button allows you to perform all of these tasks effortlessly. When you happen upon a specific task that requires a certain action, the system will automatically recognize the action needed by flashing the word of the action on screen for you.For example, if you walk up to a sign, the action button, (B), will flash "read" on-screen. You need only to hit the (B) button, and you will be able to read the sign.Simple, yet very effective and very intuitive. All games should work like this. It's brilliant.

Lastly, I would like to give some mention to the overall feel of the game.I like to call it the, "go anywhere, do anything" feeling. If you see something during your travels, chances are, you can go to it and interact with that part of the environment in some manner. This gives the player a tremendous feeling of freedom and adds a new dynamic to the overall gaming experience.Great detail was put into the creation of the magical land of Hyrule, and it shows.

Now I get to nitpick

As much as I love Ocarina of Time, there are a couple things I may have done a little differently. These are incredibly minor, minor problems that I have had with the title.First off, I was a little disappointed that the original Legend of Zelda Overworld theme was not included in the game.It was substituted for the Hyrule Field theme. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the Hyrule Field theme, but, I feel that putting the original Overworld theme in the background while traversing through Hyrule Field would have been perfect.Lastly (yup, only two) I wish there was an option to turn Navi off.At times, I found her incredibly annoying and her constant "whisens" always seem to come at the most unwanted times. But I digress, as Navi served an important role in the adventure.Because of her, we are able to "lock-on" to our targets.Navi flies over to the target and floats over their heads, allowing Link to...Read more›

Batman: Arkham Asylum Review

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Average Reviews:

I just picked up the game a little while ago so these are just my first impressions. I'm not going to discuss in depth gameplay or graphics; these things have been covered to death in the past couple of months. So to get it out of the way, it's a great game, especially if you're a batman fan and it looks great on the PS3.

The meat of this review will be focusing on the collector's edition and it's contents.

First off, the box for it is huge! Not obnoxiously huge, but substantial. The case that holds everything is a nice plastic batarang shape with sturdy feeling hinges. They did a good job there. Inside foam pieces keep everything from moving around.

As stated on the message boards, the batarang is in fact plastic and it is attached to the stand, though it doesn't look like it would take much effort to detach it. It looks like there's just a small tab holding it in. I would have been much happier with a metal version, even if it drove the cost up a bit. Also of note, the batarang (at least the one I got) has what appear to scratches all over it. I'm not sure if this is normal, but this is how mine showed up. I'd be interested in hearing how others' batarangs are condition-wise. Also, I was under the impression it was a gray color. It's actually black.

The leather bound book is decent in quality but the pictures make it look more substantial than it actually is. It's actually quite thin. The book inside is nice though, with matte pages and lots of pictures. Great for reading up on arkham's finest criminals.

As for the game package, they really dropped the ball on this one. I was expecting a nice case, like those that come with metroid prime trilogy or resident evil 5. Not so, you get a cheap looking and feeling cardboard outer sleeve and inner sleeve that holds the game and bonus DVD. Again, I'd have gladly paid more for a metal case. Or even just the regular game case with a slip case for the DVD, like the fallout 3 collector's edition. Being a collector in the truest sense, I removed the DVD and game and put them in standard ps3 cases and put the cardboard case back in the box to prevent any damage to it. Cardboard cases for games are extremely primitive in my opinion. They show wear way to easily.
The discs themselves are also non-standard in that they both look like old film reels and are labeled as disc one and two. Again, give me the retail game and the bonus DVD separate. I might just pick up the retail game later on and put the collector's edition back in the box.

All in all, I love the game but feel iffy about the collector's edition contents. If they would have just included the retail game and not the cheap cardboard box and colorless discs I'd probably have been satisfied. As it is now, I don't regret the purchase at all, I just feel a bit let down by the contents. It'll bug me until I buy the retail version of the game and I know it's just more money thrown at the game but I'm extremely anal about keeping my collectibles in pristine condition.

So my verdict:
The game gets a 5/5. It's a great game and even more so if you're a batman fan.
The collector's edition content gets a 3/5 for being average. The game's packaging is what really let me down here.
So the average is 4 stars and my score overall. If I were reviewing just the game it would get 5 stars.

Batman: Arkham Asylum features an original story penned exclusively for the game by famous Batman author and five-time Emmy award winner, Paul Dini, whose credits include "Lost" season one and "Batman: The Animated Series." As the game begins Batman is personally delivering his nemesis, The Joker, to the asylum at Arkham Island, but he is uneasy. Although the Arkham asylum is well fortified, he has a nagging feeling that all is not well, which proves to be the case when seconds after turning The Joker over to the guards, the master criminal breaks free of his captors. Even more surprising than this quick turn of events is the revelation that it was never The Joker's intent to escape the vault-like facility, but instead to trap Batman there. Surrounded by an asylum full of dangerous criminals, many of which he put there and all at the beck and call of the Joker, can Batman survive and discover what is behind the Joker's intricate plot?

Gameplay
In Batman: Arkham Asylum players strap on the gadget-heavy utility belt of the Caped Crusader. Gameplay here is a combination of both the knuckle crunching rush of hand to hand combat as you take on the hordes of thugs that infest Arkham Asylum, and stealth gameplay in which you must dispatch individuals from the shadows. Players can expect an engrossing single player campaign in which Batman continually moves forward to face the henchmen, bosses and traps that The Joker has set for him. With regards to opponents, in addition to The Joker who you will hear more than you see, the dark walls of Arkham also hold familiar villains from the the Batman criminal universe including Harley Quinn, Victor Zsasz and Killer Croc, that you will have to deal with, but don't expect a one-dimensional experience. As players progress from environment to environment within Arkham they will have to use varying combinations of muscle, detective skills, gadgetry and a certain degree of light RPG-like leveling of Batman's skills, arsenal and physical characteristics to survive and discover what The Joker's underlying scheme is.

In addition to the story-driven single player campaign Arkham Asylumalso contains various additional play modes. These include an arcade styledcombat mode where players accumulate points by engaging hordes of thugsin a hand to hand slugfest across a series of maps, in which Batman'sphysical strength and agility play a major role. The key here is to chaintogether as many attacks as possible due to the fact that with each successfulcombo players increase the point multiplier associated with their actions. The game also features a time-based stealth mode where players must honetheir ability to strike silently from the shadows. This gameplay, referredto as 'Invisible Predator' utilizes the Dark Knight's skill with gadgetslike the grapple tool, batarang and explosives. These allow for vertical/horizontalmobility, the ability to quickly strike from above and at a distance andto take out enemies and create distractions, even through walls. But rememberthat Batman works solo and is not superhuman. Your enemies will congregatearound trouble areas and work as a team against you, so you must besilent, plan your attacks wisely, strike quickly and discover the valueof encouraging fear within enemies.

Maxis has really outdone themselves this time... the Sims have pets!!
When you install the game, there are TWO DISKS which need to be installed, but only the first one is used to play. When the game is installed, you enter to a very different looking neighborhood... it has been expanded! There are several new lots, not just for housing, but also community lots. As there is with most of the expansion packs, they have a quite a few of already created families and houses for you to play with. If you choose to create a family, they have new outfits and heads for you to pick, including some new hair colors! Then, you can move your new sims into their house and begin playing. There are some new walls, floors and furniture for you to decorate you house with, and also some some new ways to landscape. You can enter "Buy Mode" and buy furniture (which includes pet supplies!) for you new house, or get ready for your new pet. Once you have gotten accustomed to your new house, you can pick up the phone and call a cab to explore the "Old Town".
"Old Town" is all of the community lots which you can go to and either buy pets, gardening supplies or even visit a cafe!! After you call a cab, you will see a trolly come and pick you up (there is no fee for going to Old Town!). Then, you will go to a neighborhood shot where you can choose where you wish to go. There are buttons along the top, which bring up arrows, showing you which shops sell what. If you are looking to buy a pet, you can either choose to buy a big pet (dogs/cats) or a small pet (iguana/fish/birds/turtle). Once you are on the lot, you are joined by some neighbors and/or computer created people. There, you can choose to do whatever you like! Keep in mind, when you go to Old Town, everyone in the family goes with (even pets... if you already have one).
When choosing a large pet (dog or cat) in the store, there are little stands with either a cat or a dog playing happily on top. You can choose to play with it or adopt. When you select adopt, you can choose the gender and breed. The computer will then ask you if you are sure you want to adopt a pet, once you have bought your pet, you get to name it (be sure to give your pet a name which will help you to know which gender it is, because if you forget, there isn't a way to find out). Once you are done with buying/naming, you will see your new pet appear at your feet. Then, you can choose to buy supplies for it (toys, collars, treats, etc.). While wondering around the lot with your new cat or dog, you may see a man walking around, with strange clothing on, he is the pet trainer, he offers to train your pet, but for a fee (the fee will grow larger, the more experienced you pet gets). You can either choose to go home with your new friend now, or go to a different lot.
Now, just because it is called "Unleashed" it isn't all about pets! You can garden too! First, you must go into "Build Mode" to buy some good planting soil (it's about 65 simoleans). Then, you have to call up the trolley to take you to Old Town, look for a good gardening shop, and go there. There should be large seed racks where you can choose your seeds. You can choose from four different crops (lettuce, green beans, carrots and tomatoes), when you buy the seed packets, you are given five seeds, which is good for five plating lots. Once you have enough seeds, you can go back home to plant. Click on the square of dirt where you wish to plant your seeds. Your sim should walk over to the area and begin to plant (it may seem to take a bit longer compared to the amount of time it takes the sims to do other activities). After your crops have been planted, you must carefully tend your crops, which involves a lot of work (weeding, watering and eventually harvesting). When your plants have grown and are ready to harvest, do so, and the produce will get added to you inventory. You can then either choose to store you plants in one of the new pantry shelves, or sell them.
But, there is one last thing! There are now five new career tracks! You can either choose a job in the line of culinary, animal assistance, fashion, teaching or your sim can even choose to join the circus!!
I hope you have found this review helpful... and I hope you go out to buy the game. It is so much fun!!

NBA Street Vol 2 Review

NBA Street Vol 2
Average Reviews:

I'm not a fan of the NBA. I could care less about the Lakers rolling over in . Passing to your big man in the paint time and time again doesn't impress me.
With that said, "NBA Street Vol. 2" knocks me out of my seat and dribbles the ball off my face! This is straight-up, old school, smooth skills, street basketball at its very finest. The original "NBA Street" was great with the tricks and the stars of the modern day NBA, but "Street 2" gives you the ultimate roster of ABA and NBA legends from which to choose and play. Who can possibly beat a trio consisting of Dr. J, Larry Legend, and MJ? What about Magic, Tiny, and The Hawk? On top of that, you've got moves and tricks so sweet you'll have to visit the dentist each time you play. New additions to the moves make the gameplay deeper and more entertaining. The first "NBA Street" gave you a limited number of combos that got boring after a lot of play. The moves in "Street 2" are new and numerous so boredom won't be setting in at all.
I'm glad to see original game announcer, "Joe the Show," move on. After a day or two of playing, I'd heard everything he had to say and muted him for good. (How many times do I need to hear "Ladies and gentlemen... Michael Jordan is back!") "Street 2's" Bobbito is funny and witty and brings excitement to the game. You feel good when he praises you for a good play and you feel crummy when he cracks on you for a bad play. The courts are authentic and you travel all over the country in your quest to the the best baller there is, was, or will be.
This game is kid-friendly, teen-friendly, and adult-friendly. It would be fun to play with a person who watched the ABA legends and NBA stars in their prime. They'd get a big kick out of watching Pistol Pete take on Yao Ming or watching Wilt "The Stilt" ball it against Shaq.
So get off the couch, lace up the Chuck Taylors, and ball like you've never balled before!

Odin Sphere Review

Odin Sphere

I've been an avid gamer since the Atari 2600 days. One thing I've noticed over those 2 and a half decades of console gaming is that almost always the best games for all of the systems come out at the end of the systems' life cycle. Look at the games the SNES had in its last year of life. Chrono Trigger anyone? And other games like Donkey Kong Country were displaying graphics that seemed inpossible for the SNES. I also remember playing a Batman game on the NES (forget the title)that came out as the NES was dying, it too had graphics that seemed impossible for the NES. One big reason this is is that by the time a system is about to be taken off the market, developers have had a lot of time to get to know the system's hardware and know all the ins and outs when developing games for it. Games have gotten more involved as years have passed, especially RPG's, so now the games that come out at the end of the newer system's life not only have the best graphics seen yet on the system, the developes have also had years to flesh out the story, combat and item systems. You'll understand this when you play the awesome Odin Sphere.

At its core, the game is an action/adventure RPG. You wander through areas going left to right and attack enemies in real time. It's a bit like the first Valkyrie Profile that came out for the PS1, but way more fine tuned. When enemies are defeated, they release spirits called Phozons that you can magically absorb into your weapon making it more powerful. All areas are set up in "Stages". When you get tot he end of a stage, Odin will drop a treasure chest from the heavens you can open to collect rewards. The cool thing here is, the faster you complete a stage, the better items the treasure chest will have. Also, the less damage you take within that stage will also grant you better items.

Speaking of items, you can get them in a variety of ways. There are vendors scattered throughout castles and battlefields, and you can also grow them. You find seeds all over the place, as well as sheep seeds and more. What you do is plant the seeds near some enemies, and defeat the enemies. Instead of absorbing into your weapong, the phozons will absorb into the seeds making a plant grow that will have various items hanging off of them depending on what seed you planted. It's a very unique concept. You can also cook in the game, and there's a fairly easy alchemy system you can use.

The story is all about Norse mythology, and the graphics that are hand painted reflect that. You have the option to play the game with English voiceovers or in the original Japanese with English subtitles. I selected the English option, and the voice acting is actually pretty good.

If you're a fan of RPG's at all, especially if you're looking for something that's different from anything else out there right now, Odin Sphere should be a game you should pick up as soon as you can. The game seems very involved, and it is, but the game also lets you select from three different difficulty levels at any time.

ROLLER COASTER TYCOON 2 Review

This is a pretty good game if you love theme parks, rides, and more... anyway, thhis is a good tycoon game. But it NEEDS SOME IMROVING on the graphics. If you like lousy graphics but a fun game I personally would recommend this to you. I mean... it's a pretty fun game. I would recommend it because you can build lots of rides and attractions, from gentle rides to rollercoasters!!!!!! You can even build real rides like rides from six flags. If you've been to six flags in any state you must know that their rides are pretty impresive. Anyway, it's a great game for rollercoaster lovers and profit managers(people who know how to spend their money.) It's a pretty good game! George,

Alpha Centauri Review

Alpha Centauri
Average Reviews:

I write this review well over a year after the game came out simplybecause I have to reiterate to those that may not have the game how greatit actually is. I say this, because even after a year, I am still playingAlpha Centauri. There are not very many games that interest me 3 monthsafter I beat them, much less a year. It is so satisfying on so manydifferent levels that whenever I need a break from another game, I'll spenda couple days exploring Alpha Centauri again. There are several differentways to win. You can conquer the planet through military might, be electedSupreme Leader by the Planetary Council, Corner the Energy (the gamescurrency) market, or the Ascent to Transendence, which is basically themost technologically advanced faction. Such parameters allow for variedstyles. Want to beat your neighbor senseless? OK. Are you sneaky and wantto forment revolts? You can do that to. Or you can buy off votes in theplanetary council with cash or technologies. But it is many of the smallthings that make this game shine. Alliances actually work - your friendswill help you when you need it, cut you off if you stab them in the back, and grow suspicious if you become to powerful. You can give away cities toreward a faithful vassal or pacify an enemy. If you commit atrocitiesagainst an enemy they will fight you to the last man. However, if you are anoble enemy, they will submit to your will and become your vassals. Suchsmall details are glorious in the otherwise "kill 'em all" worldof computer gaming. My few complaint with the games are niggling. On thehigher difficulty levels it seems you are battling with a hostile planetrather than smarter enemies - which seems a copout for what is otherwise arobust AI. Also, the end game can really drag. If you have conquered two orthree other factions and have a ton of cities to manage, a turn can take upto half an hour to manage everything. These small things aside, AlphaCentauri is brilliant game design at work. After a year I only wish othergame designers had taken a look at some of the options the Firaxis teamoffered.

Driving Force Wheel for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 Review

Driving Force Wheel for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
. . .but whether or not you are truly a "wheel person" at all.The Logitech Driving Force Pro is a highly-regarded accessory for the PS2.Many serious enthusiasts of racing games will tell you that it's the only acceptable controller for the ultra-popular "Gran Turismo" and "Need for Speed" series.I'm not here to dispute any of that - this is far and away the finest wheel available on the market today. However, given the number of impracticalities that come bundled with any wheel controller, anyone who's not a purist should honestly consider whether or not they'll get enough return on this hefty investment.

The chief impracticality is that any wheel must be anchored to something absolutely immovable in order to get the full effect out of it - and how many among us happen to have a chair directly in front of the TV that is angled like a car seat AND a table in front of it that's oddly enough taller than a coffee table but shorter than a dining table?Exactly - almost no one.Why do you think that stands custom-made for the Driving Force Pro sell on EBay for $80 and entire steel-framework cockpits with pre-set mounts are available at $500+ per?Your only other alternatives are to cook up a half-solution yourself.I've read how other reviewers have crafted lap desks out of boards or modified TV tables to be sturdier, but again, it raises my chief concern with any wheel controller:will you use/enjoy it enough to put in the extra money and effort necessary to properly use it?

The easiest solution is to sit on the floor and bolt the wheel to a coffee table, but that eliminates the possibility of using the pedals, which severely limits the realism.Plus, you'll feel more like an old lady hunched over the wheel about an inch from the windshield rather than a highly-skill professional guiding a performance vehicle toward the finish line. Finally, even this watered-down option won't work without cutting some foam to fit the base of the wheel;otherwise, its hard plastic will almost immediately scratch your tabletop.

The second issue is with gameplay - the wheel has a very steep learning curve in the beginning.I consider myself an expert-level player in GT3, but making the switch to the wheel with GT4 almost took all of the fun out of the game for the first several days.It was difficult to even drive in a straight line, much less execute the maneuvering necessary to succeed in any worthwhile driving game. The purists will say that once mastered, it becomes second-nature just like riding a bike and that's true;however, the road to achieving that level of mastery is a frustrating one, and if you're a casual gamer who enjoys more of an arcade racing experience, the Driving Force Pro may simply be too demanding for you.

The third issue is that when you consider the wheel, the pedals, and whatever mounting apparatus you choose, it's going to eat up a lot of storage space. The pedals are even too tall to simply slide under the couch when you're not playing, so no help there. And given the number of cords (AC power, wheel-to-PS2, pedals-to-wheel) that are required, just leaving it around when not in use looks pretty sloppy and would be easy to trip over.

Once you've finally gotten your physical setup in order and gotten acclimated to using it, the wheel is excellent. It is solidly constructed and the force feedback is a real treat. The 900-degree mode offered in select games like "Gran Turismo 4" creates a new standard in realism;however, given the stoutness of the resistance in the motor and the relatively compact size of the wheel (other reviews have hit it right on the head - it's sized like an Indy car, not a street car), your hands, wrists and/or forearms can get fatigued pretty quickly playing that way.Its motor is also pretty loud, which will be annoying to anyone else in the room not interested in hearing a never-ending symphony of mechanical grinding sounds.

(...)

The Driving Force Pro represents the best of the wheel controllers for both console and PC gaming. However, all but the most avid racing gamers would be hard-pressed to justify the undertaking of mounting, configuring and learning how to use the wheel on top of the steep price tag.

PROS
*Solid construction and nice rubber wheel wrap
*900-degree turning really immerses you in the driving experience (for the handful of games that support it)
*Also compatible with many PC driving games via USB port

CONS
*Absolutely needs to be mounted in order to use to its fullest, often requiring a weird work-around or expensive add-on solution
*Creates a messy maze of cords when in use;very bulky to store when not in use
*A steep learning curve may frustrate more casual gamers who prefer an arcade racing feel

Robot Alchemic Drive Review

Robot Alchemic Drive
Average Reviews:

Don't listen to the other review whatever you do, becuase if you do you would have missed out on the greatest mech game yet.The game as you probably know is just plain revolutionary. It uses the analog sticks to control the arms, and the L and R Buttons to control the legs, while giving you the perspective of the young man or woman that you play. There are three Mecha Robots, each with alternate modes, and as a bonus you can also play Almost every other monster etc. after you have beaten it.The game did have some uneven diffuculty, but if you are of the elite mecha robot fans, you will take to the controls after a few missions.Being able to skip the cinemas and transmissions would have been nice, but you may fast-forward.The voice-acting and dialogue is mostly horrible, but it was done to capture the Japanese dubbing of The older Japanese Giant-Robot films. The graphics for people and mechs are great, the mechs are the best I have seen in a game, EAT THAT X BOX j/k however the surroundings could have used some work as they look sort of plain sometimes and the tries are a little pop-uppy, but it's all good.I love this game, I did from the first play of the demo at Sam Goody, buy this game, love the game, love it for it's flaws and pros.Do it for yourself or one you love!!!

Click Here to see more reviews about: Robot Alchemic Drive

Product Description:
Yes, Robot Alchemic Drive is yet another giant robot game, but this one is different, I swear. The main difference is in the way you control your robot--not from a cockpit inside the robot's skull, or from a dynamic third-person perspective, but by remote control from the point of view of a human character on the ground.
This means you have to position your human character someplace where you can see the action (rooftops are good), but not so close that you get killed. This makes for some interesting strategic issues: when a battle rages from one end of the city to the other, you must decide if you should continue trying to control your robot, who has now become a distant figure on the horizon, or move your human character in for a closer look, temporarily leaving your robot helpless to defend itself. But the best part of the game's human element is that, while in other giant robot games you eventually feel like the buildings are stage props and you are just some normal-sized guy in a metal suit, R.A.D. never loses its dramatic sense of scale. The heavy, lumbering movement of the robots also adds to the sense of realism. Each limb of your robot is controlled individually (R1 and L2 for the legs, left and right analog sticks for the arms), so every step you take is an earth-shaking, control-rumbling event.
The game's story and characters (designed by Toshihiro Kawamoto, creator of Cowboy Bebop) are very much in the style of Japanese anime, which is good or bad depending on how you feel about science fiction melodramas with soft-voiced, big-eyed teenage orphans.
Here are the only really annoying features of the game: 1) though you can fast-forward through each individual line of dialogue, it's impossible to skip it altogether, even if you've heard it 10 times, and 2) the action is often interrupted with pointless communications from "headquarters."

MechWarrior 4 Compilation Review

MechWarrior 4 Compilation
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The MechWarrior 4 series of games has been around a very long time and has a very active online support community. League play still goes on. In fact, I am a member of one online team (Lords of Destiny) and was a member of a team playing the old NetMech version of MW2, the Northwind Highlanders). However, be warned: Microsoft does not support this franchise, having put all of its MechWarrior work into the Xbox and abandoned the PC years ago. The two latest Mech games are Xbox only. This is not that bad since they are not as good as the older PC games in graphics, game play, or customization of mechs. Also be warned - the two additional Mech Packs of Inner Sphere and Clan Mechs are NOT included in this package and still must be purchased separately - M$ is squeezing every dime out of the franchise that it can. On the other hand, the MekTek community has supplied dozens of additional Mechs, weapons, and maps, so you can get a lot more for free (contributions cheerfully accepted, of course!). Still, if you like SF games, and especially if you like the giant mech concept, this package will give you the "pick of the litter." Grab it while you can as undoubtedly people will continue to play this game for years to come.
