Digimon World DS Review

Digimon World DS
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Firstly, this isn't really a game called Digimon World 6.This game is Digimon Story, translated into Digimon World DS.Chronologically, in America, it would be Digimon World 5.

To start things off, this is a really fun game. The premise is that you are a human who is brought to the digital world to raise digital monsters, or digimon.Throughout the game you can raise your digimon from Baby to Mega levels, even degenerating to make them more powerful.Furthermore, there is a training area, called a digi farm, where you can put your digimon to grow while you are out battling.

The game is an RPG.You gain levels and stats increase, allowing you to digivolve once certain requirements are met.You can also equip swords, shields, and accessories.

Pluses -

You can own over 200 digimon, and choose to make your favorites as powerful as they can be.

If you are a fan of the show, it's great to see your favorite digimon show up in the wild, be it Gabumon, Angemon, or even Myotismon.

North America is introduced to Digimon Savers, the new series running in Japan. There are many character that appear in the game that are from the series.

Negatives -

The game can be a bit glitchy. Some things may not load right away, and I once experienced the top screen, which holds the digi farm, turn black. This was remedied by entering the digi farm and talking to one of my digimon.

Some of the evolutions of the digimon aren't the same as the television series.Angewomon doesn't evolve into Magnadramon, Impmon doesn't evolve through to Beelzemon...Matadormon doesn't become Grandracmon and so on.It's not a bad thing, just a tad dissappointing to the die hard fans such as I.

All in all, Digimon World DS is a great game.It follows the RPG genre very well, creating an enthralling world for players. One warning though, just because you may be a Pokemon lover doesn't mean you will like this game. The style and speed of gameplay in both games are very different.

You should purchase this game if you are a fan of the Digimon series, the RPG genre, or are just looking for a fun game to put 30 plus hours into.

Digimon World: Dusk Review

Digimon World: Dusk
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Dusk Is part of a set of two games. The only real difference between the two is what specie are available so make sure you check which version you really want. The plot is typical follow an up and coming trainer as some unspeakable evil tries to conquer the world, but the real attraction here is the gameplay. Lovers of pokemon will be familiar with the party of critters battle system though the creation and abilities are a lot easier on Digimon and don't detract from the game. Farms have changed a bit, theme music and skins now make farms suited to one type or another.
Overall it's very much another version of digimon world for the DS, new species, slight improvements longer story. Not bad all in all though extremely young players may struggle with the aspects of monster raising as they're more complex than pokemon.
The verdict: Not bad, pick it up if you like this type of thing.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Spirit Caller Review

Yu-Gi-Oh Spirit Caller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've played a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh! Games before, and to be honest, some games like the Eternal Duelist's Soul and Rhesef of Destruction didn't just make the cut. This one, however, you customize your character. You are a member of duel academy. To top it off, your choices of cards are staggering, topping at least 1500 cards. The main objective in this game, well, is to duel. And it's practically the only way to advance. This may sound good, but sometimes the game can get painfully difficult, not because of the duels, but because sometimes there's a specific event you have to get by to proceed and it simply will not happen. Don't fret if this happens, just play the waiting game. You'll find a guide for it on Gamespot. Even better, when you put your cursor over a monster card, you see that monster in full 3-D. Unfortunately, the lack of monster animations actually attack eachother can make the fights painfully boring. As you start the game, you start out with a relatively weak deck. But soon enough, you will be able to purchase cards from the shop to improve deck strategies, and you get a pack that might hold the Exodia cards right off the bat. But, with the ever-persistent Forbbiden-Restricted card list, you won't be able to use them. If you've played Nightmare Trobadour, you might find the way to find duelists familiar. You move a little fancy thingymabobber around with your stylus, and when the thingy turns red and starts beeping, search around until a red marker appears and go over there to duel. You can also find duelists in certain "Hotspots" like the academy lighthouse. Finally, you get to have a spirit partner. You know how Jaden can see his Winged Kuriboh, Chazz his Ojamas and Chumley his Des Koala? Well at some point in the game you duel either Oscillo Hero #2, Jerry Beans Man and Adhesive Explosive. In the cuteness factor, I strongly suggest Jerry Beans Man. If you don't get him, you can easily shut it off and resume from the save point for another shot.

With all said and done, I recommend Spirit Caller to all Yu-Gi-Oh! Fans, and you might learn a thing or two even if you aren't.

Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament 2008 Review

Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship Tournament 2008
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I went from borrowing my son's 2007 version of this game to buying my own 2008.The game is very fun, involving various opponents and sets of cards, and retains playability for weeks via unlocking new opponents and downloadable content.

As far as differences on the new 2008 versus the old 2007, of course there are new cards. Also the 2007 format of having puzzle duals available are gone, instead there is a more interactive "Dual World" where you choose different roaming opponents on a map.As you defeat more opponents (usually 5 times per opponent) you unlock new maps/zones.CPU battles are still around, and exist separate from Dual World, though playing through Dual World will add new opponents to CPU battles.

You can still use the DS wifi connection to connect online and download a different cards, new opponents (like Jaden), and puzzles. But as far as the puzzles once you download them I honestly can't find the option to play them on any meny anywhere.

Yu-gi-oh really reminds me of playing Magic: The Gathering back in the 1990's, just with bigger numbers and different card combinations. The stratedy and mechanics are still there and it seems more "meaty" than trying to play a game like Pokemon.

Digimon World: Dawn Review

Digimon World: Dawn
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you've ever wished for an excellent Digimon game, Dawn and it's twin title, Dusk, may be just what you're looking for. An RPG with conflicting situations and stories.
Unlike the previous title for the DS, Dawn and Dusk make trading and the story in general much more interesting. No longer do you have to rely on friend codes to get Digi-Eggs, but it takes a lot of luck. And you grow at your own pace, taking placement exams to test your Tamer skills.
This game also introduces over 100 new Digimon, for nearly 400 in all, with a few exclusives to each title. Also new is DNA-Digivolve, a way to make powerful Digimon by fusing two, and improving existing ones.
If you are a fan of Digimon and own a DS, this will be the best thirty dollars you'll spend.

Bleach: The Blade of Fate Review

Bleach: The Blade of Fate
Average Reviews:

Look, this game is hands down the best fighter on the DS and one of the best fighters out there today 2d or 3d. It doesn't beat virtual fighter 5 or anything like that but as far as fighters of this type go its up there. As for the language. The mild profanity included in the game which respects its rating isn't just ok, its actually needed because believe it or not the few vulgarity's in it are part of the characters catch phrases in the show or things they are known to say in certain situations. If they took that out it wouldn't be true to the anime or the manga so, while I respect your point of view, giving it a rating of 3 over language is incorrect. You are rating the game on how it plays. Not rating the game on what age you should be to play it. Thats what the other company does. So, as far as sticking to the main topic as far as this being a fighter for the DS and based off an anime. It sticks true to both with 5 stars easy. There is no better handheld fighter. It could be even more addictive than your console one even.

Ghost Squad Review

Ghost Squad
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is a lot of fun to play, and I would highly recommend it.If you decide to pick it up, here are a few quick tips that may be helpful:

1.) I don't know who at Nintendo came up with the crazy idea that the trigger on the front of the zapper (i.e., "B" button) should be the firing trigger, but this game follows that trend when you select the zapper mode. However, if you choose the Wiimote + Nunchuk mode, it reverses the buttons. In this mode, the button located where a trigger would normally be (i.e., "Z" button) becomes the trigger, and the "B" button becomes the action button. It's a lot more fun to play this way.So, if you're using a zapper, don't pick the zapper mode.Pick the Wiimote + Nunchuk mode.

2.) Although this game supports 480p, it does NOT support widescreen. If you play in this mode, everything looks a little stretched out, although it's tolerable. The gameplay itself doesn't look too bad.You really notice it the most when octagon shaped dialog items appear on the screen.

3.) If you have a large TV, this game requires you to be REALLY far back in order to properly calibrate the aim.For my 57" TV, I have to be about 12' back before it will allow me to aim directly at the calibration targets. If you change the TV from widescreen mode to 4:3 mode, it helps a little with the distance.

As a side note, once you do calibrate the aim properly, the aiming is extremely accurate provided that you have a large TV and are using the zapper. In the arcade game, the crosshairs are always jumping around a little, which makes the sniper sessions a little difficult (in a frustrating way, not in a good way). With a large TV and a zapper, the sniper sessions are much easier.
