Team Buddies Review

I've played a preview disk which a friend 'borrowed' from a friend and we played the game in one, two and four player modes. First off, the whole feel of the game is colourful and fun. At first it was easy to get a simple weapon and shoot til someone won, but then we started to find that therewas much more to it. Different strategies could be employed depending onopposing strategies and it soon became a battle of wits as much as purebrutality !One or two of us found the interface a little frustrating -giving orders to team members, controlling awkward vehicles etc, but Ifound this pretty easy to pick up and was soon whooping therebutts !Games that sprung to mind are Bomberman, Tetris (the cratestacking element) and even C&C, although it's not a 'God' game to thesame extent as you're involved much closer to the action. The fightingbecame manic and everyone got totally carried away with it, even though thepreview disk only had 4 levels on it, only 2 of which worked on 4playermode. I think the final game has 32 basic levels although I've heard thereare 64, plus some secret levels. I can't wait 'til it's out.

Product Description:
Team Buddies is a truly twisted game. The object is to help thesesquat, cartoonish 3-D buddies collect colorful crates and bring them back totheir designated crate depot. Inside those crates, however, is a variety ofweapons, vehicles, and personnel to help wage war against other buddy armies. You'll see several different buddy types--medic, cyborg, commando, spy, eachwith different abilities--as well as 32 playgrounds in eight different areas. Asif that weren't enough, you'll also have to contend with a variety of bizarrebarnyard animals that will try to attack you or steal your crates.
Though you don't need a buddy to play Team Buddies--there are over 60missions against a computer opponent--the game supports up to four players in asplit screen, thanks to the separately sold Multi Port accessory and extra controllers. Battles are viewed inthe third-person perspective, with a binocular mode for the true tactician.

I've played too many games to even remember most of em' and I decided to buy Tales of Destiny due to an urge to have a new RPG. I wasn't sure of what to expect, I thought it'd probably be some lame no name chance out ofnowhere like Tecmo's Secret of the Stars. But then I played it, now thisgame hit me pretty hard considdering what my idea of it was. I couldn'tstop playing, I played this unique battle system and the storyline until Icouldn't stay awake. I played this game for two and a half days streight. Ididn't even do this for Final Fantasy 7 or Suikoden, this is a game thatyou wanna play more and more of. very powerful plot indeed but the graphicswere certainly weak, I mean they were pretty bad(not as bad a Lunar SilverStar Story Complete's but still pretty weak.) However the music was thebest part about the game I think that it beat out any other game's music. Most games have their strongpoints and that's it. Xenogears has the bestplot I've ever seen. Suikoden has the best battle system I ever seen. FinalFantasy 8 has the best graphics I've ever seen. But Tales of Destiny havethem all balanced out(cept the graphics). I'd reccomend this game toanybody accept the people who only play a game for it's graphics. ~Seth~

9 out of 10 people will probably see this, and pass it up as another cheap RPG, for one thing you only have 1 dungeon (gasp) when you leve you level back down to 1 (GAsp), and you capture monster just like in Pokemon (GASP).No it's not a compelation of rip off's, this is a classic that is highly addicting, and incredibly fun, if given a chance.
The story revolves around a young lad (you name) who on his fifteenth birthday is given the opportunity to become a hunter and explore the depths of the Monster Tower to retrieve riches, however to do so he must not only survive, but grow as a trainer and as a man.In comes the Kewe, the monster you will likely use for a majority of the game.He is a fire type (there are only three types) and he is your brief tutorial, and key to success early on.
... YOu also must build up your respect to the townsfolk, to do this you must enlarge certain places (Temple, Hospital) and build new things (Library, Gym, Casino, Race Track, Bowling Alley ect..) and the town will grow to respect you.
Now as for the tower it'self, there are 40 floors, everytime you leave you go back down to level 1.No it's not immpossible for two reasons.
A) Your monsters level stays the same when you leave, this is due to the fact that they are more like equipment.
B) Weapons and armors stay the same, when a red or blue sand is used your weapons and armor grow more powerful, so technically you can easily dominate the first few levels without you monsters assistance.
Overall this game is tricky, you will die the first few times (lose all your items except monsters)but once they are strong enough you can succeed. There are 40 randomly changeing floors and they get more and more difficult as you go along.YOu must adjust your mosnters accordingly by class.
A)Fire
B)Wind
C)Water
Fire beats Wind, Water beats Fire, Wind Beats Water.
I would buy this for the challenge it possess, guarennteed addiction.

Tales of Destiny 2 Review

Tales of Destiny 2
Average Reviews:

I didn't think it was all that great at first because of the poor english voice actings, but once you really get into the game, it's no problem at all! The small faults wouldn't affect th game-play too deeply, and after all, fortunately, the voice acting gets better as you advance in the game. The voices do match the characters well, although.

Anyways, like I said, don't let the voices get to you, after all, it's an honest to goodness, excellent game!!! It's one of the most memorial ones I've played, even though I've been through many rpgs. Once you've completed the game, it'll have you thinking, "Why does it have to end!" Lol.

The main plot is quite alright, although it wasn't one of the strong points of this game. The character developement and the events that take place within the whole main plot makes up for it big time though. Although to repeat again, the main plot isn't that bad anyways.

The little morals and dialogues in the game are so touching. One of the strong points of this game.I found myself trying to stop tears when Meredy questions Reid what good memories really are. This game also brings a good point to discrimination.

The characters are simply brilliant. You get to really understand them and they're great. The character developement is great. In fact, this was what motivated me to write this review even though I'm not that sort of person, really. You'd think a 15 year old would have better things to do. But I thought I really should to put in my compliments for this game. And yeah, the characters are simply lovable.

The battle system is excellent. This game really sticks out from the rest of the rpgs how getting into battles can be also fun too, not like the others how you'd wish you could run away from all the annoying, boring battles. The voices in the battles aren't that bad, in fact, with the full awesome animation of swordsman techniques and spell casting for each character, simply excellent. The awesome battle music gets you going too.

The graphics of this game was pretty satisfactory I guess. Even though it's 2-d, it's still beautiful. I don't get what people were complaining about. After all, animes are 2-d. the backrounds have a nice, crisp look to it in my opinion.

The music wasn't that bad either. Even though the tunes weren't THAT catchy, it still has depth and feeling in it. It also has mood in it. I should know, I love music. Like Reid's hometown music, it has a homey, gentle feel to it. Oh yeah, and the battle music. Awesome. But not to be biased, I've played other rpgs too, and yeah, theirs isn't bad either. Still, the battle music for this game is GOOD.

Oh yeah, and not to forget about the mini games. They are fun. The game developers sure know what fun is. I've found myself playing Meredy's dancing thing over and over, trying to continously beat my own record. Lol.

The anime intro in this game was so cool!! It looks great. You should see it.

Anyways, I think I'm done. Ps. A very memorial game. I recommend it. Even for rpg haters. The battles system is so much better!

Guild Wars Trilogy and Eye of the North Scent on the Wind Limited Edition Print Bundle Review

Guild Wars Trilogy and Eye of the North Scent on the Wind Limited Edition Print Bundle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this product on sale for $42 USD Before tax. That price bought me the 3 main games (the original prophecies, factions and nightfall) as well as the "Eye of the North" Expansion that apparently will have expandable / earnable content for Guild Wars 2 when it comes out.

The graphics are realistic and beautiful. They run easily on a mid-range computer. The gameplay is comprehensive and levelling system based on the premise that you don't want to have to play the game forever before getting into it (ie: max lvl 20). You have the option of jumping into the game and developping your character in a roleplaying scenario before moving onto PvP mode, or can create a lvl20 character specifically for PvP right away. This gives the player a lot of freedom to build different characters and try many combinations of professions without having to spend HOURS levelling those characters up. As well, the freedom to train and untrain skills and move your attribute pts around at will gives you the ability to specialize your character for whatever you wish and the peace of mind to know that you can redesign without recreating.

The little drawback this game does have is offset by the fact that you only have your initial purchase price and NO ONLINE FEES. This MMORPG is free to play online and I highly advise it to anyone who enjoys these types of games but disagrees with paying a montly subscription fee on top of your initial purchase price to do so.

I very much enjoy this game and recommend it.

Phantasy Star IV Review

Phantasy Star IV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Phantasy Star IV is a perfect example of an old-school RPG.It is one of the two greats for the Genesis, in my opinion (the other being Shining Force II).The entire series is one of the best ever made (I find it necessary to mention, or course, that Phantasy Star III is not very good, as it was made by a different company).I would really like to see a new one for one of the next generation systems (Phantasy Star Online doesn't really count).
Phantasy Star IV is a classic. It has the standard combat system, with you and the enemies on opposite sides, with attacks, special skills, and techniques which you can perform. It is still a lot of fun, though. It has a high level of random encounters, but it is necessary to fight a lot, and do a lot of leveling-up, to be powerful enough to fight the bosses.
The characters are a lot of fun, and are surprisingly well developed throughout the game. They are basically the standard Anime style fare, but of course, all have their own traits.Phantasy Star has okay graphics, but they are kind of strange. It also has the absolute best Genesis game soundtrack ever made.
Phantasy Star IV has really cool comic book style cut scenes accompanied by well written dialogue and plot. The cut scenes, to say the least, are revolutionary, and they type of thing which really puts this over the top of almost every other old-school RPG I know of.Without them, it just wouldn't be the same game.
The storyline is fairly standard, as you are a group of heroes trying to stop the evil "Dark Force".Within this set-up, it does a really good job of creating an interesting plot.I found myself entertained by it.For one, Phantasy Star IV does have one of the most sad parts ever.I was sad, at least.
Anyway, Phantasy Star IV was a great game, and for a Genesis game is fairly long, maybe 30 or 40 hours (I didn't really keep track). It is one of my all-time favorites. If you have a Genesis and some extra cash, pick this one up.

Mega Man Battle Network 2 Review

Mega Man Battle Network 2

Don't pass off this game as a childish series, this is a great and original game.
The story is pretty good, and offers different new features from the original, like changing the type of megaman.
The battle system is differnt an unlike ALL RPGs. It has an isometric view and you chose your move(s) when the gauge fills up. This seems to make it similar to a card game, or strategy game because each move you pick needs to be well thought out, along with the cards in your folder.
It also features a two player battle mode and chip data trade.
Hardcore megaman fans may not like the fact that it is not a platformer (but Rockman* Zero is comming out this Augest), however fancises tire if they arn't changed, and capcom saw this so the created an alternate universe series. If these fans played this game more than 5 miniuts (most gammers will be turned off this game if they don't play it form the begining because it will be too confusing) they would enjoy capcom's little references to other games.
All in all, this game is excellent and very fun, well worth the purchase. It is a great alternate approch to one of the most famous mascots in the gaming industry. So, buy this game.
Graphics: 8.9
Sound:9.5
Gameplay: 10

The best game I have ever played. Period. The best for adventurers, the best for strategists, the best for action gamers. If you have not purchased THIEF yet, go with THIEF GOLD, as it includes three extra (and fantastic) levels at no extra charge. If you already purchased the original, don'tworry--you get a $10 rebate in it for already buying it previously, PLUS a$10 rebate off the future release of THIEF II! Going completely against thetired idea of running-around-in-mazes-blasting-things which has alreadybeen run into the ground, THIEF requires stealth, care and strategy, requiring you to stay in the shadows, move quietly and carefully, pickingoff enemies without being discovered. No, it's NOT as easy or boring as itsounds. THIEF is so immersive and involving, so guaranteed to get yourblood pumping through you to the point where your face will turn beet red, that it has single-handedly made my fellow game fans, once they discoveredit, take former favorite games like UNREAL and QUAKE and either toss theminto the garbage or hock them at their local used software store. It's thatgood. Forget new releases like OMIKRON, THIEF delivers in a way that noother title does, so amazingly well that you will swear you are actuallyTHERE. It's just about worth the purchase of a PC alone just to play it.The must-have for anyone with a 3D acceleration card.

Not many good reviews of this game, but I don't think the reviews are being fair.OK.This game does have bad moments such as the multiplayer, but I think the single player mode is interesting and fun.For example, they have some mini games in between levels such as throwing the princess at other players to knock them down.Other mini games include catching as many stuntmens from the roof as possible while trying to avoid being hit by falling cows, tables, and chairs. There is some replay value because you need to complete some levels with 5 stars to unlock hidden levels or characters. If you don't believe me, just rent the game and find out for yourself.

Legend Of Legaia Review

Legend Of Legaia
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
first of all, this was my first RPG ever. its the reason i got into them at all. i rented it and loved the graphics and gameplay, so i bought it. after playing other RPGs like ff8 and chrono trigger, i'd have to say thisisnt my favorite, but i still look back at it lovingly. the fight system isreally amazing. you punch in each individual blow for every character, thenwatch as it happens, or you select your ra-seru to summon a monster whoyou've already beaten to attack. the seru videos are beautiful and theattacks are useful. the absense of the active time bar is a little lazy, but it allows you to really think it all out. the story is pretty good andwhen you revive a genesis tree and that music kicks in, it's very touching.speaking of music, the legend of legaia soundtrack is very good. i've readin reviews that the music wasn't that good, but i thought it was great. theboss music is particularly good. the graphics are great too. the fightscenes are very bright and colorful. i really don't see how they fit it allon one disc, other than the absense of many cinema scenes. the level ofchallenge is also a plus. the last boss took me six tries,... SIX. i onlyhave a few complaints. first, there isn't very much room for exploration.in other RPG titles, some huge parts are optional and take place onsecluded islands. second, the characters aren't very deep. really the mostinteresting is songi. Vahn is just a grapic basically, because you chooseeverything he says, making you the character. also, its a little too hardto level up. overall though, it's a great game, and a good first RPG.

Breath of Fire 4 Review

Breath of Fire 4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ah, the Fourth installment of the Breath of Fire series. It's finally here, BUT...! Was it worth the wait?

I had been waiting for this game for a long time. So when I was waltzing through my local Blockbuster Video, I saw it, and the next thing I knew it was in my hands. After paying the rent fee, I sped home and threw it in my Playstation without glancing at the instructions. Here's what I thought of it.

First, this game is about Ryu, who once again, can transform into dragons. He's trying to figure out who he is, yet again. The story first involves a search for Nina's sister, but then it soon evolves into something much greater, involving Nina, Ryu, Ershin (A strange woman who wears armor), Scias (A mercenary who was hired to watch over the party), Cray (The leader of the Woren Tribe (AKA Cat People) and Nina's companion), Ursula (A woman toting a magic gun), and Fou-Lu (An emperor that has risen from the dead).

When I saw the anime intro, I was expecting it to be in english, but Capcom needed to put more work in it. They shouldn've translated it! The title screen was almost completely japanese as well and I was afraid I had somehow gotten an import copy. After that, much to my relief, the language was completely english. The 3D enviornments were horrible, as I noticed when watching the opening. The sprite cahracters, however, were perfectly drawn. The battle effects were nice, except for a bit of pixelation in some spell effects. The camera angles were frustrating as well. Overall, the graphics needed a small tune-up.

The music was GREAT! I was expecting repetitive songs and other things like that, but I got a surprise when I heard the musical score. The battle theme was good (Both Ryu and Fou-Lu battle themes), the victory theme was good, same with the boss theme. The world map theme, however, needed a boost. The minigame theme was one of the only musics that got repetitive. But we need a translation! caughanimecenimacaugh. Other than that, the music overall was perfect for the game.

The controls were a tad frustrating. The akward camera angles left me searching for the place to find Sandflier parts for at least half an hour. We need a free-following camera! The other controls are fine, just positioning yourself can be frustrating. It can be hard to get yourself jst right so you can get that item or read that sign. Battle controls are simple, yet effecive. It's easy to choose what spell to cast or who to attack. It's alse simple to switch party members from the front to back rows. The world map controls are simple because there are only a few things to do on it. Overall, the controls could be a lot better in this game.

Ah, the gameplay review. The storylne is greatfrom beginning to end. The combat system is ingenious, leaving the option to learn advanced abilities from enemies. Only isntead of a completely different command to learn abilities, the game usus the "Defend" command to both reduce damage AND learn abilities. The out-of-battle abilities are simple, yet effective. For example, Nina can fly up and look around so you can see everything that's around. Overall, this game was worth the wait and should land itself in any RPG player's collection. While not quite as good as BoF2 in storyline, it surpasses BoF3 in almost any way.

RATINGS (Out of 5)
Graphics- 4.0
Sound- 4.5
Control- 4.0

Overall Gameplay- 5.0

Dragon Warrior VII Review

Dragon Warrior VII
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Dragon Warrior VII recalls the glory days of RPG gaming, when developers were not reliant on flashy graphics and FMV, but rather a good story, whimsical dialogue, and a deep and engaging plot.
In the era of 3-D texture mapped graphics running at 60 frames per second, Dragon Warrior is indeed a gem to behold. The graphics are terrible but charming, the sound is purely 16- bit but very sumptuous, and the vast world will help you kill off literally hundreds of hours of your life.
The only low point with the game other than the obvious is the somewhat linear nature of the game towards the beginning to the middle section of the plot.
Dragon Warrior VII may not be able to compete with the likes of Final Fantasy X, but for those who love RPGs, Dragon Warrior has the hours and ultimately the heart to keep you glued to your television screen.

I have played the suikoden series from the beginning and suikoden II is by far the best of them. If you enjoy enjoy an rpg with a good story and gameplay mechanics this should occupy your time. The major battles are one of best parts in my opinion. Your basicly playing a tatic game with recruited character for your army. Also there are a lot mini-games in your caslte. If you like a challenge try to recruit the 108 stars for your army. If you think a couple hundred dollars is too steep for this game wait a year or 18 months. Suikoden II should be released for Psp in 2007. Psp is remaking old rpgs for its system and this is one of them. I will get my copy even though I own the original. I just like the idea of playing one of my favorite games on a potable system. Overall suikoden II is one of the best 2-D rpgs of the 1990's. If your a retro gamer this is a game for collectors value and a fun game to play. And for rpg players, if you don't like to read play kingdom hearts or diablo 2.

This game is by far one of the best i've played. If you can't take it online, although its still good, you may want to wait. The offline tends to get frustrated and repeating quests over and over again to get money gets boring fast.

Pros:
+ Game works awsome online with no monthly charge
+ Armor changes the way you look as well as character customization, don't expect to find your game twin anytime soon.
+ Awsome quests
+ A large collection of weapons and armor to unleash your deadly rage.
+ Cooking, Fishing, Hunting, an more only add to the experiance.
+ Fights with Wyverns and online bosses like Lao feel epic every time.
+ Multible areas like the valcano or jungle.

Cons:

- No offline multiplayer
- Frustrating offline mode
- 1 star quests offline are boring and are nothing but tutorials that have to be done.
- Can only leave town if your on a quest.
- this game WILL make you hungry when your cooking. Dangit, that well done steak looks good.

Stonekeep Review

Stonekeep

Stonekeep is an excellent RPG.Not many people have heard of this game, and I don't know why.The graphics are top notch (for a game designed during the time the game was released). The storyline is very well written. The magic system is done well. The combat system is not unique but done WELL!The ability to have other (computer controlled) charters to fight next to you is a nice feature. The puzzles make you think! The overall atmosphere draws you into the game.
The only flaws are the game is to short. In theory you can finish the game in a day.No replay ability (one ending). You might want to go back and look for hidden magic weapons you missed before, though. And you have to work a little to make it run on newer systems.
In the end this should be the standard as far on how a RPG should be made. You simply have to play this game!

Valkyrie Profile Review

Valkyrie Profile
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Valkyrie Profile is the latest game from Tri-Ace, the creators of the absorbing Star Ocean series. Its two-dimensional, platform-game feel brings back memories for those of us who played games like Mega Man back in the day, while combining it with RPG battles and plotlines. The combination works much better than I had expected.
The game shines in graphics and gameplay. Beautiful hand-drawn art brings the harsh world of Valkyrie Profile to life, and the aforementioned platform feel gives gamers a jolt of nostalgia. Battle difficulty follows that gaming cliche: easy to learn, difficult to master.
The storyline is very simple on the surface: Lenneth Valkyrie must collect the souls of the dead to battle for the gods at Ragnarok. The game consists of alternating segments of gameplay (dungeons, towns, and such) and storyline (an earthly hero dies and is recruited by Lenneth). While it sounds tedious, both parts are well-integrated into the whole and enhanced by the addition of a countdown until Ragnarok. Dungeon and story segments use up this time, and when the countdown finally ends, the end of the game appears - Ragnarok. While not horribly accurate with regards to Norse mythology, it hits the mark often enough that people with in-depth knowledge of the myths will be pleasantly surprised by a reference to an esoteric character. The story is also helped by a clear and well-written English translation - and while it can be sometimes off-putting to hear the Pokemon voice actors lending their talents to the game, the voice acting is also good, if a bit uneven.
This was without a doubt one of the best games of 2000, and quite possibly one of the best games of the PlayStation's lifespan. Highly recommended.

Digimon World 3 Review

Digimon World 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a game is good but has a few flaws. I like this, it is the best Digimon game yet. The game flaw is the YOU CAN ONLY GET EIGHT ROOKIE DIGIMON, so people who like Gabumon will see him but will not get him as a partner. Also every rookie Digimom can change into one another. EX: Argumon can become Metal Garurumon and War Greymon. At the beginning of the game Agumon, Gilamon, and a bear Digimon are chased by a spider like Digimon. For those Digimon fans that don't know who this is. This is really one of DIABOROMON forms that shows up in DIABOROMON STRIKES BACK. This game is full of Digimon that were in Japanese movies that have not come out in the USA. That is a reason I like this game. Also in the game you can Digivolve or DNA Digivolve during Battle. This game is grate but it's hard because you have to go on journeys to battle some or all town leaders, I have not gotten that far yet because I kept fighting strong wild Digimon so when I started the on the Journey for real, my Digimon's levels were at 22 each. Don't do this unless you have a lot of patience that is why I like this. Also at the being of the game you see Argumon but you never see War Greymon, Metal Greymon, or Greymon all Agumon does is run.
