Dungeon Keeper Review

I really enjoyed the wicked genre of the game. Some people hate the fact that you start from scratch, but what are the odds that you'll find an underground empire that you don't have to fight for or build yourself. The real trick is keeping your minions from desserting because they have sence of creature comforts to and you have to pay them (what you thought they'd just work for you putting their life at stake with no cash income?) and keep them from warring amongst themselves because they have natural enemies. This game is really humorous (ever slap a bile demon) the creatures reactions to certains actions are normally quite funny. One word of advice never sacrifice/slap the horned reaper. if you sacrifice it the creatures will desert with the tought that you're an idiot for sacrificing the best demon. If you slap him he'll go into a killing frenzy killing everything in sight until is but a bloody wasteland before him this is actually quite funny to watch,but...

Sometimes you just need to express your dark side. In Dungeon Keeper, you're the boss of a horrible, rotten-smelling dungeon, and you must keep all of your loathsome, demonic creatures in line. If that weren't enough to keep you busy, your lair is continually invaded by hoards of idealistic "heroes" wanting to slay you, proclaim a triumph over evil, and go back to a village feast in their honor. What's an evil boss to do? Unleash your minions, set deadly traps, cast spells, and punish them with your torture devices. And most of all, teach those dumb do-gooders a lesson.

Dungeon Keeper 2 Review

We waited quite a while for Dungeon Keeper 2 to come out, and bought it immediately when it did. On one hand, it's great for a sequel. People who played DK1 will easily be able to pick up on moving units, building rooms, lining corridors with traps.
The graphics are better in the sense thatthey're more geared towards future development. Instead of pixel-basedgraphics, the creatures and rooms are now drawn with polygons. While thatmakes some of the monsters look clumsy, it does mean that future graphicswill be much smoother and cleaner.
Going down into your dungeon bypossessing a creature does not cause the creatures to turn into a cloud ofdots - the rooms you roam through are still crisp and easy to see. Roamingthrough your own dungeons is one of the true pleasures of this game, too!
There are only a few extra rooms - you'd have hoped for much morefrom a sequel that took this long to make. The casino is neat, if onlybecause a jackpot-winning minion starts dancing and singing when he wins.(Disco Inferno!)
Rooms have better graphics, though. The hen-houses inthe hatchery, the on-wall bookshelves and torture racks, everything shows asubtle touch.
If choosing between DK1 and DK2, I'd definitely recommendpeople get this game. The challenges and gameplay in DK2 are better thanDK1, and DK1 has many new extra features like Pet Dungeons.
New playerswill appreciate having a well crafted game that is a fun challenge, whileexperienced players will appreciate the subtle differences between the oldand new version.
Don't expect a masterpiece of Sequelhood, but do expecta fun strategy gaming experience that will last quite a while!

Dungeon Keeper: Gold Edition with Deeper Dungeons Expansion Review

Dungeon Keeper: Gold Edition with Deeper Dungeons Expansion

The game may say Evil is good, but this one is awesome. Of the hundreds of games I have played over the year, it's the one I keep coming back to.

Why? because it's the only one I know of where you are the bad guy exclusively, and get to whup tail on those pesky heros stealing all of your hard stolen gold. Now really, somebody has to curb the population...

Where else do you get to slap you minions around, not only because they deserve it but some of them even LIKE it!

Also one of the few rel time games that does not require a powerhouse of a computer to play, and twitch monster rflexes to play.

I quote a Doctor unofficially when he said that it even helped my dad after his stroke to regain motor reflexes and improved his hand eye coordination. Now if only I could get him to officially say that. A game that's good for you even :)

It's a RPG with a twist because you ravage the landscape instead of making it better.

All I can say is... RUN LITTLE RABBITS RUN! BWA HA HA HA HAH!

Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon Review

Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A few people remember the dungeon adventures Chocobo had nearly ten years ago. This time around, treasure-hunting companions Chocobo and Cid find their way to Lostime where the people have been losing their memories as a result of the periodic ringing of the clocktower bell that looms over the town. This sets up the game's premise, in which you must enter and fight your way through a series of dungeons in order to reclaim everyone's lost memories. While not the most engaging concept for a story out there, Chocobo's Dungeon for the Wii fondly pays tribute to the roguelike series of games, a genre that honestly is not for everyone.

Despite the dreamlike storyline that tends to border on overly cutesy and childish, the main star of the game is first and foremost its emphasis on dungeon exploration. Though the battles you encounter with enemies are in fact turn-based, the various floors and the treasures, items, and traps that await you in them are all randomized. The enemies match every move you make in the dungeon, making for a little strategy involved when it comes to making dire decisions. Die in the dungeon and lose everything you have obtained. After gradually building up your character's strengths and discovering more abilities and attacks, you will soon be able to get into other aspects of the game such as implementing the job change system and even getting to play mini-games unlocked from further dungeon grinding.

The controls for the game are relatively simple. You can utilize the Classic controller or play it with the Wii remote, upright or sideways for a more traditional feel. No one should have any trouble controlling Chocobo, and the menus are very easy to navigate through. The sound of the game is a real hit and miss, however. The game's dialogue and text comes complete with pretty annoying voice-acting, as well as certain sound effects (particularly Chocobo's attack) that can become grating to your ears after a while. Luckily the musical soundtrack is filled with many familiar tunes from the Final Fantasy series, which are very nice faithful rearrangements to the originals. The graphics aren't anything to go crazy over and some people may wince at the drab washed out finish of the visuals, but the orthodox cartoon appearance of its worlds is actually quite perfect for the entire theme of the game.

I wouldn't get Chocobo's Dungeon because 1) it looks cute, or 2) it has the Final Fantasy name attached to it. The game requires the player to have a certain level of devotion since it comes rife with some rather extensive dungeon crawling. This might turn out to be a worthwhile adventure for some while to others it may be a repetitive bore. On the other hand, the developers of the game stated they designed the game to be simpler and easier in order to appease to more players. The game's difficulty is relatively low compared to other games of its kind, which could disappoint the hardcore elite wanting a deep roguelike experience. While I do applaud the fact that they want to reach a greater demographic and introducing more people to this type of game, Chocobo's Dungeon has a couple flaws that will upset both casuals and non-casuals. Still, anyone who just wants a decent adventure to tide them over for a while should check it out for themselves. Take it for what it is, and just have fun.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time Review

I purchased this game for my grandson's 10th birthday. He had already given me a "hint" as to what he wanted. After he opened this gift, he was "locked in" for the rest of the day. Nothing else mattered. The birthday party went on without him as he was off into another world. I have not played this game myself, but I am sure he considers it his best gift. To grab and keep the attention of a 10-year old, it has to be the best.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team Review

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The truth is, I really wanted to like this game.I really did. It's all because the Pokemon RPGs of the past have been good. The craze for the Red and Blue versions, and then the far superior Gold and Silver versions (arguably the best of the lot). Then Ruby and Sapphire came along. All these RPGs were simple, yet for some reason delightful to play. Now Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue come out, and it seems I had my hopes up for this one. It's no where near as interesting, and it's even sadder that even on the Nintendo DS the game just didn't go above and beyond.

The basic premise of the story is, like every Pokemon game, rather simple. You're an aspiring trainer who one day falls asleep only to wake up as a pokemon. The pokemon you wake up as depends on how you answer the questions at the start of the new game. You'll also be able to choose a pokemon partner who will be the one that awakens you.You and your partner will find yourself in a world completely full of pokemon.Unfortunately all is not safe. You and your ally will soon discover that other pokemon are always in need of help in this new world. So it's up to you to answer ditress calls of other pokemon, go to the specified dungeon and save them. It's basic. It's simple. And throughout your journey you won't see one trainer.Ever.

Since there are no trainers, one has to wonder how to expand upon their party.Well, you still get new pokemon from the wild as you did before, but it's slightly different. When you defeat a wild pokemon they will offer to join your team. Learning moves however is almost exactly the same as previous games.By leveling and through TMs.You can also team up and perform moves as well.

All these things are really engrossing, and they've got some neat things going for it, but it doesn't separate from the things you begin to notice as you trek through the game. The first being that most of the game is just boring. The dungeon floors are randomly generated and sometimes the exit will be right next to the entrance.Although that's not such a bad thing when battling is a fairly uneventful task anyway. The AI of your allies is horrible, yet they can still hold their own in a battle against an enemy.Even bosses are easily taken down by your party.

The worst part may very well be that the true core of the gameplay doesn't come out until you've completed the main story.More abilities become available after. You're finally able to take control of other Pokemon after.Your Pokemon also won't evolve until you complete the main story.

What would a Pokemon game be without two versions? There's the Blue version which is on the Nintendo DS, and then the Red version which is on the GBA.Don't be fooled, however. They're basically the same game.Just like every other set of Pokemon games, though, each version has exclusive pokemon.

The saving grace of this set up, however, is all the connectivity features that can be done.If you insert both games into your DS at a time, you can import Pokemon from one game to another. This is an easy way to get all of them. It's also really neat that you can trade items, missions, and pokemon this way.In addition, if you get KO'd in a dungeon and your party gets wiped out, you could send out a message to your friend and he/she will have to come and rescue you.The connectivity features are very engrossing. And of course, you can hook up via wireless (for DS owners) or link cable (GBA owners) and battle with your friends.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon doesn't really look all that great. It's no surprise, Pokemon games never look fantastic graphically. If you want to know the truth, the DS version looks exactly like the GBA version. There's hardly any difference between them. The game is certainly colorful, but there's just not enough variety in the environments and there are hardly any 3D effects brought out.For the Nintendo DS, which has to compete with far better looking games it's really hard for it to hold it's own here.

Worse than the graphics is the sound, though.A lot of the sound effects and such come directly from the normal gameboy games that are almost ten years old.The music itself isn't so bad, but it is quite repetitive.Again, however, it's no surprise because as usual, Pokemon games don't usually push a system to its limits.

It's hard to suggest Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. It's a Pokemon game, but it's a rather bland Pokemon game. It's neat that you can finally play as a Pokemon, but the game as a whole could've been presented far better than it actually was. There's little variety to it, actually, which is really sad considering how big and expansive previous Pokemon games are. It's got plenty of rescue missions, but after a while they're much more repetitive than exciting.I can't suggest one buy this.Even the most die hard of Pokemon fans will have trouble getting into this game.

On the positive side
+You actually play as the Pokemon and not the trainer
+There's plenty of connectivity stuff to be done between both versions, mastering the game as a whole will take a really long time
+There's never an end to rescue missions, even long after you've completed the story mode

On the negative side
-Battles are too easy
-The AI for your enemies and allies are bad, yet the game is still easy, and your AI controlled characters are still competent enough to get through the battle without you
-Most of the more interesting tweaks of the game are available only AFTER story mode is complete
-Graphically the game doesn't hold up
-The sound effects are absolutely terrible
