As you achieve higher ratings (1 star, 2 star, 3star, 4 star, 5 star, and "the tower"), you can build morethings. To be awarded the stars needed to get 5 stars and higher you haveto meet certain requirements. You can name 20 people and 20 tenants. Thisgame takes a few months so it will pass time. It is also a good game if youlike only small amounts of pressure. As you journey on your trip to a"the tower" ranking you take up many challanes. Keeping goodevaluation and dealing with terrorists who will go to any level to chargeyou money. But you might not have to pay them, if you have good security. Ithink this would be a good game to have because of all of the traits listedabove. So consider it when you want a game.

(More customer reviews)I can't believe how many addle-brained nitwits have written negative reviews here.This is one of the most inventive, open-ended, and rewarding games I've EVER seen, and this is a guy who's played his fair share of video games, both console and PC.There's so much to do with this that you can literally entertain yourself for days on end with it.Heck, you can even play a special "Experimental Mode" if you like, create a sprawling colony of thriving, successful black or red ants, and then annihilate them with whatever sick, twisted device of mayhem you choose, whether it be a spray can, a legion of spiders, or a swarm of enemy ants.BWUAHAHAHA!!!

But even beyond the sadistic element to this, this game is wonderfully intriguing on every level.You get to create your own society as an ant, building up your family, helping them succeed, deciding on the behavior and caste of your colony to find the best formula, and conquering whatever foes may try to interfere with your plans for complete domination of the back yard!My description here doesn't even do it justice.Just PLEASE, do yourself a favor and check this one out.If you've got some neurons cracking up there, you'll get into this, big time.

This "Game of the Year" edition of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War (DoW) contains new battle maps, online features and an observer mode to enhance what was already a terrific RTS computer game. Each of the four races in the game look and behave as one would expect from Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 (aka 40K) universe. The Eldar are graceful and cultured in their speech and appearance (think High Elves in space), performing marvelous acrobatic moves in combat. Orks are brutal, awkward and ramshackle in their appearance and gait, Chaos Marines and their demonic minions are dark, cruel and monstrous while regular Space Marines (enhanced humans) are very industrial and all business. The animations in combat are so good you'll want to play some skirmishes on easy difficulty so that you can take your time looking close up at the individual fighting using the fully moveable 3D camera. There are even special "sync-kill" animations when certain creatures destroy each other. For example, when the Space Marine Commander kills a gigantic Bloodthirster (huge winged demon), the animation sequence is one of the most spectacular in the game!

The skirmish option offers both single and multiplayer modes with many different battle maps from which to choose. This offers near limitless permutations, providing tons of replayability. The campaign is a wee bit linear and not overly challenging, but is loads of fun, has an entertaining story and can be completed by all players regardless of skill level. Difficulty level settings can be used in both campaign and skirmish play to make the game more or less challenging as desired.

The voice acting and music are quite good in DoW and enhance play enormously. The game is highly evocative of the dark, gothic feel of the 40K miniatures game produced by Games Workshop (GW).

Resource gathering is used as is expected in an RTS game, but it is very simple and does not occupy an enormous amount of game time. The emphasis of DoW is all on the action and combat! Resources are gathered by capturing strategic points and critical locations on the battle map. Capture more territory and more resources will be available to you to complete your research and build your army.

Note that the expansion pack for this game, Winter Assault, provides players with even more maps and options, as well as a new fully playable army, The Imperial Guard. The Winter Assault campaign can be played from either of two points of view, "order" or "chaos," and involves a war against CPU controlled Necrons! Skirmish mode, as in the original Dawn of War, adds a lot of replayability value to the game, with many different battle maps and play combinations. Play any of five armies, play with allies or play free-for-all, and that's not counting multiplayer mode!

Between trying to hear all the fun voice acting, see all the great animations, and actually playing the game, Dawn of War Gold Edition will keep you busy and enthralled for many hours. "Let the galaxy burn!"

Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis Review

(More customer reviews)In this game you have to earn money to build a dinosaur park. The best dinosaurs you can get are Spinosaurus, Velociraptor, Tyrannasaurus, Brachiasaurus and Triceratops. I like the graphics because all the buildings and dinosaurs look realistic and I feel like I'm really there. You can get twisters that add excitement to the game and there are dinorampages, when the dinosaurs break out. I like making lots of money. My best park has made half a million pounds.
Jurassic Park has really inspired me to run my own business and make as much money as I can. I would really recommend it to other people. It is really cool!!!!

SimCity 3000 Unlimited Review

(More customer reviews)For those who don't have SimCity 3000 already, SimCity 3000 Unlimited is the best way to get into the game.The game is nearly identical to the smash hit of 1999.All the same playability, the same city buildingchallenges, etc.
For those who already own SimCity 3000, there are anumber of new options that could make it worthwhile to upgrade.In fact,when you install Unlimited on a computer that already has the original3000, you get the option to transfer over files (like all your old cities). It then even does the uninstall of the old product for you (very nice). Granted, Unlimited does chew up a bit more disk space so you should makesure you have room to spare for the new version.
I'd also suggest you tryto get in while the rebate is going on.It will get you back $10 on theprice of Unlimited.Then you won't feel so bad spending money on a gameyou basically already have.Then do what I did: give your old copy ofSimCity 3000 to a family member to get them hooked on the game.

Divine Divinity Review

(More customer reviews)Divine Divinity is a great game.The best way to characterize it is 'Diablo II with a plot.'Your character goes up levels and chooses skills in a similar fashion as Diablo II, has the familiar 'life' and 'mana' counters, and even many of the graphics look similar (some are better and some are worse than Diablo II).But the Devil, they say, is in the details, and Divine Divinity gets many of them right and a few of them wrong.
Pros:
1)Lots of quests and character interaction.Instead of just having a few NPCs standing around for quests and shopkeeping, you have a wider world.
2)More real-world items.Unlike Diablo II, here you have plenty of items not in the 'Weapon', 'Armor', or 'Gem/Potion/Scroll' category.Lots of different types of foodstuffs scattered around the place, including homes and campsite, as well as bushes and shrubs, lend a bit of a 'Morrowind' or 'Gothic 2' feel to the game, despite the isometric character view.
3)Lots of clever, tricky quests.Many of the quests are quite challenging, and hidden caves, trapdoors, secret passages, and other thing abound to confound the player.
4)Humor.I often find myself grinning at books or parchments I pick up along the way, unlike Diablo II which is savagely unfunny.
Cons:
1)Somewhat uncertain gameplay.Gameplay is very similar to Diablo II but also allows you to pause the action and give orders (not a negative).However it also feels a bit less manageable than Diablo II.My character often swings almost at random, or tries to go after something it can't reach while being gnawed on by other things.You have to be quite precise with your control, which gets tricky when enemies pile up.
2)More danger.This could also be seen as a 'pro' but I'll put it here.Diablo II can get challenging at higher levels and difficulty settings (Divine Divinity also has different difficulty settings) but early on your character is unlikely to get eaten right away.That is emphatically not the case in Divine Divinity.What makes this worse is the wide range of armor qualities and weapons you can get.For example, in the very first village there's a sword that does over 100 damage (not that you have the stats to use it).Monsters are powered accordingly.So it's much harder to know whether something will kill you in a few hits, since the damage ranges are much wider.For example, I started a Fighter that had 200 hit points by level 8 or so, and still died in a few hits from a nearby orc chieftain.This degree of sudden murder was reserved on Diablo II mostly for end bosses or very high levels.Here, every critter could be your last..made harder by the fact that they're rarely alone.
3)The difficulty of the monsters would even out if they dropped appropriate loot, but they don't.Perhaps I've turned into a powergamer due to Diablo II or something, but I find the degree of goodies dropped by monsters to be exceedingly sparse.Most of the valuable items my characters get are from chests or just lying on the ground, rather than generated by monsters.There's nothing like killing an 11th level orc, nearly getting yourself done in in the process, only to get 2 gold pieces (if you're lucky).What happened to that enormous axe he was just hacking me with?
4)Teleporting stones.In an effort (successful I think) to ease gameplay, your character is almost instantly granted a pair of teleportation stones.These cleverly allow you to drop one and use the other to recall back to the first.This lets you travel around quickly between points.There are also waypoints.However I find it a bit odd that while I'm scrounging for a ruined dagger and a rope belt for equipment, I already have a pair of super powerful teleport stones.A minor gripe, yes, but frankly why anyone wouldn't sell them for a suit of platemail is beyond me.
5)The interface is a bit overwhelming.You can completely blanket the screen with subwindows if you're not careful.The minimap is very useful but is not translucent and instead takes up a chunk of the screen.You can move it around, which I inevitably do by accident instead of escaping when I'm trying to navigate a fight.
All in all, Divine Divinity has a lot going for it.It has a much better storyline and overall RPG feel than Diablo, but (perhaps necessarily in order to avoid lawsuits) gives up a bit on the adventuring aspects.It's definitely worth checking out if you've enjoyed Diablo or more RPG type games such as Baldur's Gate or Fallout/Fallout 2.

There are several elements to the game that they can explore. My preschool class loves the game. I can set up the computer area, and then allow them to play the game alone successfully as I do small groups. Great addition to our classroom.

Reader Rabbit Toddler Review

(More customer reviews)We've tried Pooh Toddler, Little Bear, JumpStart and a handful of other toddler geared software and Reader Rabbit has been the favorite of both myself and my son.It's easy to skip the intros (which are short anyway) and get straight to the game; it works for a wide range of toddler skills; and it has activities appropriate to a toddler's attention span, namely short and colorful without being overly abrasive.Some of the games have more of a point than others ("can you find three matching animals?" vs. "pick a song!") but they can all be triggered by 1) point and click 2) mouse over or 3) random key pounding.This has been great for my son (who didn't get the whole mouse thing until he was 2 1/2) and means that no game is too advanced to key pound your way through.There are about eight different games on the main disc; you can pick a song to sing, match animal babies to their parents, place shapes to complete a picture, and match letter sounds to pictures -- among other things.I really like that a lot of the short tasks are rewarded with a *short* song and animation piece -- not great art, but not annoying, either.And my son loves them.
I will warn that the alphabet and the shape game can be frustrating if they accidently pick up a letter/shape on mouse over because it then has to be placed with the mouse -- random key pounding won't unstick it.Also, my son was prone to accidently bringing up the menu through key pounding and I'd have to come and fix it.
Finally, I've had the old and new versions of RR Toddler; the new one has a second disc which my son had zero interest in.On the main disc there are a few asthetic changes and a dreamship game in a completely different section, which my son loves but which has no real education value and is a little harder to access.On the good side, the new Reader Rabbit *seems* to run just fine on Mac OS X so I don't have to run 9 to get it to work.Hooray!(BTW, Little Bear Toddler has the same point and click/mouse over/random keys function, but I don't think it's as fun.The games that *require* mouse skills in toddlers have gotten shoved in the closet.)

(More customer reviews)I purchased this game a couple of weeks ago for my daughter, who is almost five, and she loves playing it.It has different levels of difficulty and she is ecstatic that she has been able to solve the first level mystery so far.She needs a little bit of help with the reading parts, but she loves the matching games and the ones for scoring scooby snacks.She often plays with her Dad and they enjoy trying to solve the mysteries together. The only negative with the game is that the animation is a little jerky; but, at her age, she doesn't seem to mind.

The Sims Expansion Collection Volume 1: Unleashed & House Party Review

(More customer reviews)Being enthralled with this strangely obsessing game since discovering the Deluxe edition a few months ago, I was looking for a way to expand it after having installed Hot Date. Someone recommended House Party and then I discovered this expansion collection that also had Unleashed and got it. It was the best move I could've done to add to my gaming.

House Party may not be the best expansion ever but it is fun and it adds a whole lot of objects to the Sims. Also, I've gotten the chance to see them do things I never saw them do before such as dance country music, rap, do the hula, crazily shake their groove things in dance cages, watch intently as an entertainer pops out of a cake, ride a mechanical bull (and be knocked off onto their butts), and go completely berserk when Drew Carey's limousine appears at the party (he's nice, he stays and talks to all the guests). It may not be as ample as other expansions but I'd say it's definitely worth it.

Unleashed is a whoooole other thing. This may seriously be the best one ever. I had a feeling it would be just a cute game to get for the pets (I'm very keen on all dogs, even computerized ones) but it ended up being the expansion I enjoy the most. If you don't care for the pets and taking care of their needs or planting a garden (Actually, none of my Sims plant yet), get it for the new and improved neighborhood and the ability to build houses without families living in them. Yeah, that's right, you now have 40 lots to play around with! This is the best feature! And yes, you can go into the prebuilt houses, furnish them, change them or even build your own on the vacant lots and have them ready until you want to move in a family. Oh, and did I mention there's 5 new career tracks??

I could definitely go on and on about this but I'll just leave it at this, I don't think I could've gotten an expansion collection that's more fun and added sooo much to my gameplay. For that alone (as well as everything else), I recommend it. Also, no technical problems getting it to work even though my computer is fairly old.

(More customer reviews)Sim Tower is fun to play, but once you get everything set up in your tower, there are not a whole lot of options to add new items.You have to earn stars and you do so by adding in items such as condos, restaurents, and hotel rooms.As you gain stars, you gain more items to add in your hotel such as stores and a movie theater.Once you get so far in the game, or if you run out of money, there is not a whole lot you can do.It is fun to play though, especially if your just looking for a game to play but don't have a lot of time.

(More customer reviews)Operation Genesis is an economic sim where you create your own dinosaur park, but a few real-time elements breathe some new life into the genre.Think of it as a game of Theme Park, where the main attractions can kill you.
You start off the game on your own custom island, researching DNA, building exhibits, and of course constructing huge fences to keep the dinosaurs contained.As your research progresses, you are able to create bigger and badder dinosaurs that generate additional customer interest.Of course this raises the danger level as well.To provide research material, you hire teams of archaeologists to dig up bones and amber.As more material is collected and researched, the DNA of each dinosaur becomes more complete and the dinosaurs live longer as a result.
I think the developers struck a nice balance of keeping the money management focused mainly on dinosaur research and less on the park itself so it doesn't turn into yet another economic sim.You do have to monitor some areas like food and park cleanliness, but that's about it.The majority of money is spent developing dinosaurs and their needs.For instance, the dinosaurs need to be vaccinated to prevent a number of diseases that can afflict the animals.Once the vaccines are developed, you need to build a helicopter station so they can be shot with the vaccine (or shot period if they go nuts and start attacking everything.)You can't spend the entire time focused only on the dinosaurs, though.You also need to spend time researching new and better exhibits, such as balloon rides, viewing towers, and the ever-popular jungle safari tours in the woefully inadequate Nissan pickups, so the customers can see the dinosaurs better and improve your park rating.
As the research improves and new technologies are developed, you get an email telling you everything, and I mean everything that happens.This starts to get a little annoying after a while as many of the "common sense" decisions could be delegated.It would have been nice to be able to adjust the settings so certain decisions, like reviving a sick dinosaur or selling fully researched DNA material, could be made automatically.Every so often, a little real-time gameplay comes into action.For instance, a dinosaur might trash one of the pickups, leaving the survivors stranded and it's up to you to fly a helicopter overhead and rescue them before they get trampled on or eaten.Or, if you like, you can jump on one of the balloons or pickups to take some pictures of the dinosaurs.If your photography skills are good enough, they might get published and you'll make a little extra cash as a result.
One of the best features of the game is simply watching the behavior of the dinosaurs as they interact with one another.Certain dinosaurs tend to get along, others don't.As you introduce new and different dinosaurs, the dynamics of the park change.When my park started off with all herbivores, they would wander all over the place.Once I introduced some carnivores, especially my bad-boy T-Rex, they tended to become much more territorial.Plus my normally docile triceritops would start freaking out and trash any nearby pickups, much to the chagrin of the customers.Other dinosaurs would get so stressed, they'd simply keel over and die.Some of the behaviors are a little buggy, they like pushing each other around while they're sleeping, for instance.But for the most part they do seem to have individual personality and it adds a lot to the game.
There are some minor gripes, such as being forced to used certain functions with a keyboard even though the entire game could have been mouse driven.My main gripe, though, is that it's a little too easy.I'm no expert in these types of games, but even in my first game, I easily created a money making machine with every exhibit and every dinosaur researched in spite of numerous mistakes that I wouldn't make my second time around.There's really not much involved in keeping the park maintained or the customers happy.It didn't seem like it made much difference to the customers whether I had a few or a lot of dinosaurs.In fact, it seems like the less dinosaurs you have, the easier it is to play.Having said that, I was feeling pretty smug about my park when a huge twister ripped through destroying everything in its path.I was having so much fun watching the devastation that I forgot to declare a state of emergency.Let's just say that the few customers that lived probably won't return anytime soon.

Guess what!It is on the disc, for which I paid full price.The game manager opens their web site and downloads information about other games they are pitching, interrupts games to download "updates", etc.When game manager is disengaged, the game runs slowly while the "manager" tries to go to the web, and eventually locks my computer.I was left with a lot of junk to uninstall, if you can find it embedded with unrecognizable tags. You can choose multiple choice or type in answers and thequestions won't repeat till all 2000 have been asked. The graphics are verygood on this game as well. It is a winner all around.

(More customer reviews)For starters, we were HUGE fans of last year's Scooby Doo First Frights for Wii.I personally thought that it was one of (if not THE) best games of the year on the Wii for the under 10 crowd.One of last year's break-out hits, for sure.

So it was with great excitement that we purchased Scooby Doo and the Spooky Swamp for Wii.I must say that I am not as overwhelmingly excited about the sequel as I was with the original.The main reason is that the game developers chose to change some of the fundamental game play structure for this sequel.Some may like these changes, others may not.

Chief among them is the fact that the game play is entirely objective driven this time around.You must complete an objective (or task) to proceed forward in the game.To that end, READING SKILLS ARE A MUST.The objectives are sometimes obvious, but other times the objective must be read (or re-read) from the objectives log to be certain that you understand the task that you need to perform.So even if your child can pick up the very easy game play mechanics on their own, a lack of reading skills will leave them constantly asking "What do I do next?"Where the original game allowed a non-reader to play on their own and still advance through the game without a problem, this new game requires someone to sit with a non-reader to guide them through the objectives.

The objective-driven game play does allow for the story telling and story progression to be enhanced well above and beyond the original game's high standards.This is a definite plus!

Voice acting is solid, as was the case with the previous game.Although, Shaggy's voice acting is decidedly a notch or two below the previous game.

This game is definitely more of a challenge for the younger set this time around.It appears that the game developers were pushing the game to be more along the lines of the "Lego" games for Wii.My suggestion would be for fans of the original game to try it for themselves and decide how they feel about the original vs. the sequel, and for parents to be aware of the reading requirement before making a purchase.While it is an excellent game, I feel that the fundamental changes will prevent it from becoming a classic like the original.

My 7 year-old son quickly lost interest after about 30 minutes, where the original game was one of his favorites for Wii.

UPDATE 9/19/2010 - My son has regained his interest in the game, but only when I am close by to help out on a regular basis.On his own, he quickly gets frustrated.

UPDATE 9/26/2010 - Finished the game in about 8-10 hours.Only 2 episodes in this game, as opposed to 4 episodes in the last.It was great while it lasted, but seemed like it was over a bit too soon.
