PS3 Charge Station Review

PS3 Charge Station
Average Reviews:

Bought this dual charge base not too long ago and am very pleased with its performance.very straight forward as far as functionality, charges 2 controllers (can charge up to 4 because it has 2 usb ports on its base) and it plugs into the wall so no more need to leave the ps3 running if you need a charge.

The charger's design is very smart looking and it makes for a nice controller organizer and display. While the controllers are charging, the holsters are lit (red - while charging;green - when fully charged).

Highly recommend this product for anyone who owns a ps3.

Playstation 3 Cordless MediaBoard Keyboard Review

Playstation 3 Cordless MediaBoard Keyboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you have a PS3 60GB system and are considering the utilization of the Wi-Fi feature for internet and online play, (which I presume is why you pay for the deluxe model) then YOU NEED this wireless keyboard.Sure, you can always navigate online with a game controller, but I'll wager that after 10 minutes of entering characters one at a time with a controller you will have had enough.

This keyboard is fully compatible with the PS3 console and comes with a mousing finger pad built right in to it.This eliminates the clumsiness of having to work a separate mouse on a flat surface. When you want to relax on your couch the last thing you want to do is have to lean over a table to work a mouse. With this board, you just sit back and do it all right from your lap.

The keyboard works on USB technology, not Bluetooth. It communicates seamlessly with the PS3 via a small USB dongle that plugs right into one of the 4 ports on the front of the console. The unit boasts a wireless range of over 30 feet.I use mine at a distance of about 20 feet and it works famously. There is no software to load onto the console whatsoever.Just plug the dongle in the console, pop 2 included AA batteries in the keyboard and go.

There is a Bluetooth keyboard available that is compatible with PS3 as well, but it is twice the price of this unit and if I'm not mistaken it has a separate mouse. So until something else comes along this is the one to get.

Playstation 2 Driving Force EX Racing Wheel Review

Playstation 2 Driving Force EX Racing Wheel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Although the wheel has quirks with both the PS2 & PS3, the wheel is still definitely worth its price! With a full day of trials & errors, I was surprised that the force feedback was equally inconsistent with the PS2 and PS3. Sometimes I started the game and the wheel worked fine with force feedback; sometimes the wheel worked but the force feedback didn't; sometimes the wheel only worked for multiplayer mode but with no force feedback; and sometimes the game didn't work at all - all this for the SAME game. As you can see, quite frustrating, but when it did work, it's was SOOO awesome that I decided to experiment all day with it. I did more testing with the PS3, so I'll focus on that. For the PS2, some games do state that you must plug the USB into the top port (for older systems - for newer PS2 systems, I don't know which is the preferred port). Similarly, the PS3 has a preferred port.

THE BEST CONFIGURATION FOR THE PS3 IS: 1. plug the USB into port #3 (port #1 also works, but I had more success with #3), 2. turn on the system manually - DO NOT use the PS3 controller to turn it on! This allows for the wheel to be assigned to controller #1 - MOST driving games can not be played in single-player mode when the wheel is assigned to controller #2. Unfortunately, the wheel does not have a PS button to re-assign the wheelor quit the game. If your system was on and a controller was previously assigned to #1, then the wheel usage will be inconsistent. Therefore, it's best to plug in the USB in port #3 and turn on the system manually. This way, I was able to reliably play games with the wheel with force feedback.

GAME COMPATIBILITY: Currently, I only have 8 driving games. The most reliably were Burnout 3: Takedown and Midnight Club 2 (I would assume later games in the series would also work, but not sure about earlier games). Gran Turismo 4 and Need for Speed 2 also worked fine, but it sometimes took several attempts to start the game. Like plugging new USB devices into a computer, sometimes the drivers load correctly, sometimes they don't, so try several times. These 4 games all worked with the wheel with force feedback.
MotoGP3 and Tourist Trophy worked with the wheel, but without force feedback AND it required Pelican's PS2 USB adapter ($15) to be plugged in also. Pelican's PS2 USB adapter is worth it though 'cause it was the only way I could adjust the sensitivity of the wheel. Once the sensitivity is adjusted, it should remain the same as long as the system is on (you can change games and have the same sensitivity). However, I am not sure if the wheel returns to default sensitivity once you turn off the system.
Dirt for PS3 worked wonderfully - great force feedback and a joy to drive! However, World Rally Championship was the MOST inconsistent (even though Logitech stated that it's compatible). Sometimes it worked with the wheel, and sometimes it didn't (actually, when I got this game to work, Gran Turismo didn't work).
You can see the full list of supported games (up to end of 2005, they haven't updated the list) on Logitech's website. The manual really sucks.

As for people deciding between this wheel (EX) and the Driving Force Pro, the main difference is that the Pro has 900 degrees turn for SOME supported games (see Logitech's site). While 200 degrees turn for the EX model is arcade-like driving, 900 degrees turn is kinda overkill. Some purists say that 900 is like simulating a race car, but you can only comfortably turn the wheel 270 degrees in each direction (try it for yourself and you'll see) - therefore, 540 degrees would have been more ideal. I think this is a practical observation since several reviewers indicated that it was hard to adapt to the Pro wheel. Besides, the blue rubber of the EX model looks cool and the stick shifter of the Pro model looks bulky (EX's paddle shifter works fine). The final difference between the 2 models (besides price), is the vibration/ resistance motor. The EX model weighs in at 9 lbs, while the Pro weighs in at 15 lbs - that 67% heavier because of it's stronger motor. You may get better vibrations with the Pro model, but many reviewers complained that it was noisy. I did not find that problem with the EX wheel.

Real Arcade Pro: 3 Premium VLX Review

Real Arcade Pro: 3 Premium VLX
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the ultimate fighting stick and truly brings the arcade experience home. The sheer size and weight of the stick brings home the point that this is the king of all arcade stick controllers.

It is designed in collaboration with TAITO to recreate the TAITO "VEWLIX" Arcade cabinet. The stick uses authentic Sanwa stick and buttons and has other functions classic to the Real Arcade Pro. series like the turbo and the stick control toggle function. It also has a non-slip surface on the entire bottom and comes with an additional option board that you can mount the controller on to further enhance your stability.

The main feature for this controller has to be the fact that you can easily access the internal of the controller by simply unscrewing 3 screws. Maintenance and customization is a breeze to any other controllers out there.

Overall, this controller addresses all the players wants and needs and is a masterpiece of a arcade stick controller.

A must buy for any player serious for an authentic arcade experience.

PS3 Real Arcade Pro. 3-SA Review

PS3 Real Arcade Pro. 3-SA
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is, without a doubt the fight stick you should buy for your PS3.It has all of the same components as the Mad Catz Tournament sticks.Right out of the box, you get all Sanwa buttons and, of course, your Sanwa JLF joystick. In addition, something you get with this baby that you don't get with any of the SFIV sticks (despite what some previews or even the box itself says) is full PS1/PS2 compatibility as long as you have the latest firmware update, and obviously, a backwards compatible PS3.The HRAP 3 SA is also fully wired to work on your PC, which means you can play all those games you have on MAME or any other emulator you use.The fight stick itself is heavy enough where you can rest it on a table and it will stay firmly in place, (yes it has the four rubber stops at the bottom) but light enough where you can play it on your lap without any discomfort. It's also a beauty to look at.It's got a very sleek design and the japanese style button placement is just right for most of your favorite fighting games.

I understand there's been some concerns about the square gate the joystick uses.Let me just say that I have always been used to an octogonal gate when playing my fighting games. While I do admit it felt a bit awkward at first, I got used to it fairly quickly. The type of gate a joystick uses doesn't affect the movement commands at all. Just keep using it and it will feel right in no time. However, if you continue to have trouble with it you can always buy an octogonal restrictor plate. (I highly recommend[see comments] for all you arcade part needs.)The stick is easy enough to mod, and I believe the plate is a snap-in-snap-out kind of deal.
P.S. ALL ARCADE FIGHT STICKS THAT COME WITH A SANWA JOYSTICK INCLUDES THE SAME SQUARE PLATE!

Conclusion: If you're going for the best-of-the-best, I can't recommend a better fight stick than this one.The only thing the Mad Catz Tournament Editon Stick really has over this is that compartment for the cord, which is admittedly cool. But with backwards compatibility and, at the time of this review, a $10 cheaper price tag, your arcade fight stick of choice should definately be the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 SA.Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to play more Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.

PS2 Guitar Hero World Tour - Stand Alone Drums Review

PS2 Guitar Hero World Tour - Stand Alone Drums
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the GHWT full band set and those first generation drums were not of the best quality. Although they worked okay at first, they eventually stopped working properly. The bass pedal was plastic, felt flimsy and I damaged the sensor pad inside of it within 2 days.I recently bought the stand alone drums and they seem to be a little bit better. The cymbals seem to be much sturdier. All drum pads and cymbal pads are covered with a nice smooth skin that feels good and sounds a little bit quieter than the original rubber drum pad material. This drum kit is really accurate so far. Its sensitive enough and I haven't had any crosstalk issues yet (crosstalk = when you only hit the orange cymbal, the red pad also registers a hit).

My only complaint is that the same plastic crappy pedal is used in this kit. It doesn't feel too sturdy, but it has withstood a pounding by my fat and heavy size 11's.Red Octane did improve the bass pedal sensor a bit by adding the same skin material as the pads and cymbals. It looks like it is some kind of protective layer for the sensor pad underneath it. I think I am going to buy an upgraded electronic bass pedal so I can feel more comfortable bangin that thing with my fat feet. That will also give me the option to have some double bass action.

The kit comes with some cheap balsa wood drumsticks. I suggest sticking with these sticks, because heavier sticks will probably destroy this set with moderate pounding. I can bang on the set as hard as want with these sticks and because they are so light, I don't feel like I am going to break the set.

Overall, I am satisfied with this new drumset. I have had it for about a week now and it's still working well. I just hope it holds up for a while this time around.

Guitar Hero World Tour Review

Guitar Hero World Tour
Average Reviews:

I preordered this game from Amazon, but impatience got the better of me, and I bought it from Wal Mart on opening day.My review is based on that band kit, but I will be taking it back today. Why, you ask?

I played this game through two songs (Sweet Home Alabama and The Joker) and realized something wasn't right.I'm normally a 95% player on medium (On Rock Band 2) and a 90% player on hard.Yet I was scoring in the 60's on medium. After checking my calibration settings, I went over into the training mode, and realized that I couldn't even make it through the basic training because the red pad was not registering every time, and was not registering hard hits at all!

I switched over to the song recording mode, and it verified that the red pad was intermittent at best, thus the reason it's going back, and I will hope the one from Amazon is a better copy.

Now, let me say, overall, I give the feel of the drums two very big thumbs up.The pads felt much better, and they were much quieter than I was used to.However they get a thumbs down on quality. And before you think that this is just one bad experience, check around. There is a very big issue, first with the sensitivity of the pads (Apparently a program is coming out to allow you to change the sensitivity using your home PC) and second with the pads working intermittently. This second issue (Which I experienced) seems to be the most concerning, and from other sites, it looks like I am just the tip of the iceberg.I'm reading about people having to go through 2, 3, even 4 drum sets to get a good one. Many of the stores are not sold out, but are returned out.And this apparently stems from the wires to the drum pads simply being held on with silicone which is not holding everything together.

I really really can't wait until they get this set completely fixed, but since Activision is requiring YOU to pay for shipping if it's broken out of the box, might want to delay, at least for now.

Also, since I bought this game based on the promise of cross-compatibility, it should be stated that the drums do NOT work with Rock Band 2 at this point!Hopefully it's just a matter of a patch coming out, but it's a little disconcerting.

*******EDIT 11/10/08*******

As I was still having problems with a cymbal, I did contact the nice support people, who sounded quite exasperated, but immediately sent me out a tuning kit. This kit allows you to modify the sensitivity of each drum pad (Or cymbal, or pedal) to where you want it to be.Too sensitive, it may trigger when you hit another pad.Not sensitive enough, it may not trigger it all.

Now, I previously stated that some sites had talked about loose wires causing problems. In an effort to be thorough, and since my cymbal wasn't working, I did take apart the cymbal to look at the sensor. At least for my cymbal, I noted that the wires were definately SOLDERED.I was relying on information previously supplied by someone else in stating that the wires were not soldered, and I still do not know the condition of the wires on the drum pads themselves. As I said, this was my individual yellow cymbal.Since then I have sent it back through the RMA process, which, yes, did require me to send it (insured and traceable!) at my own expense.

Also, as of this date, the GH:WT drums are still not working with Rock Band 2, which is still a bit frustrating!

Gamester FPS Master Controller Review

Gamester FPS Master Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My biggest complaint about the controls on Halo is that I couldn't slap someone without taking my thumb off of the joystick (which is bad because someone can you get in the the second or two that it takes to push the button and come back to the joystick). I could switch controller profiles so that the slap is on one of the triggers but then I couldn't throw a grenade without taking my thumb off of the joystick. It was kind of frustrating to me.

Finally my wife bought me this controller for a Valentine's gift (now that is a romantic wife, I wouldn't trade her for anything).

What I did not like: Let's start with this part. I did not like that it took me almost a week of playing Halo (an hour a night) to get back to the same level of skill that I was with the original controller. I've been using this controller for seven months and even now I still don't know which button corresponds to the x, y, a, or b button. I also do not like that I if try playing Halo with a normal controller, [...]. I don't remember the buttons very well and am no where near as good with the normal controller as I am with the FPS controller (but that's not the controller's fault). I'm sure that if I played on both for awhile, I could switch between the two without a problem.

What I liked: I love this controller. It is the best thing to happen to me and Halo. Once I got past the learning curve (1 week), I increased the already large scoring divide between me and my lan party buddies (usually around 7 points) to 10 points. I no longer have to lose control of where I'm looking or running to throw a punch or throw a grenade. Even though I don't know which button on this controller is the B button, I instinctively know which button is the slap or which will switch weapons. The buttons are in an excellent spot. I at first thought that I would bump the buttons in intense moments but that's not the case. You have to be deliberate with your button mashing for you to throw that punch. The feel of thing is great and actually adds to the experience (if you haven't noticed, it kind of looks like a gun) Another great things about this controller is that because it has a kind of high learning curve, no wants to borrow this controller. They may ask to use it but I tell them about how hard it is to use at first and they leave my prized controller where it belongs, with me. This thing is awesome.

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition S - Black Review

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition S - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first fight stick purchase. I have been playing fighting games for years and I finally decided to shell out the money and get one. I have visited many message boards figuring out which fighting sticks were the best and most affordable. I discovered that this one( Mad Catz) and the Hori fighting sticks were the best for affordability and performance. I picked the Mad Catz one because it has a storage device for the 12ft wire right in the back of the base, and also the nice art work on it.

The performance is spectacular. I have always used the d-pad on a controller for fighting games so i was skeptical switching to a analog stick and 2 rows of 8 buttons, plus the fact that I would have to spend $130 to find out if i liked it or not. It did take time getting used to. I spent a good 2 days getting used to the button layout.Other than adapting to the button layout I am not disappointed at all. This stick is worth all $130.

The cable length is perfect and more than enough. The fight stick itself is light and I usually just place it on my lap. The buttons are really responsive. I mean I barely touch the buttons and I can perform a move. The analog stick is great. The stick is really responsive as well. All I can say is that the fight stick screams precision. Every move, combo, can be pulled off with precision with little to no error. I play Street Fighter for ours and my hands dont get tired or start hurting. When using the PS3 controller my hands would get cramped. No cramping has occurred when using the fight stick, and I have had it since March 12.Arcade sticks can be fully customized and Mad Catz Fight sticks are one of the most fully customizable when it comes to replacing parts and the artwork.

I fully recommend this Fight Stick for first time buyers like me who are looking into buying one. Put all worries aside. This stick is great for upping your game. This Fight stick will make you play better period. Its so much more responsive than a normal controller and now I can see this is how fighting games were meant to be played. Worth every penny.

BluWave Infrared Remote Review

After having used a Harmony 676 to control all my devices, I was not happy when I needed to use the PS3 controller to control Blu Ray movie watching.

This remote's dongle does the job in letting my Harmony 676 control the PS3. There was one problem that almost led me to return the remote however, and I wanted to mention the solution here.

Problem (for Harmony remotes):
On the PS3 XMB (Cross Media Bar), the directional buttons would move the selection several spots for each key press. I read several posts and tried teaching & re-teaching the Harmony. I tried teaching using the "Raw" IR learning but that would slow down the response from the PS3 to each key press.

Solution:
Within the Harmony program, go to Devices->PS3 and select "troubleshoot" under device options.
Select "Show me more problems" (last choice).
Then select the choice "PS3 doesn't appear to receive every command correctly," and the select "The device responds too much to some commands (for example, volume up increases the volume too quickly)."
In the screen with the radio buttons, select '0'.
Save & update the remote and everything the directional buttons will work perfectly.

I've been playing F1 2010 on this thing with a Logitech G27 for a few days now and thought I should write something up since this appears to be a new product. In short, this is a great way to play racing games, but be sure that it fits your setup, as the whole thing is competely non-adjustable, unlike some of the competition (wheelstand pro, etc).

Setup: First off, I've never had a harder time getting anything out of a box than this thing. Once I did get it out, it took about an hour and a half to put together. You'll need a phillips-head screwdriver; everything else is included in the box. The instructions could use a lot of work.

Build: This table is very heavy (which is great) and it feels sturdy and able to take whatever kind of abuse you're going to throw at it. No complaints here.

Use: This is where I have some problems with this stand. First: the whole thing is made of very sturdy wood, but it's completely unadjustable. When you look at an alternative like the pricier Wheelstand Pro, which allows you to change its height and angle and so forth, that makes the Xtension stand a disappointment. It works for my room, where I sit on the edge of my bed to play (I don't have much room), but if you're on a very short couch, this stand may not solve your problems. Second: The bottom of the stand has five little rubber thingies that keep it from sliding around on a hard surface. They're great if your room has oak flooring, but on carpet, I find that the stand slowly slides away from you as you accelerate. Every 10 minutes or so, I need to pause and pull the stand back to where I want it to be. There may be ways of solving this problem at your local home depot, but it would be nice to have included something to this end.

Bottom line: this is way better than a coffee table or any other non-purpose built wheel stand. Though it doesn't have the Wheelstand Pro's adjustable height, it does make up for that by 1. Being cheaper and 2. not having a metal bar between your legs (a big problem on the G25/G27 since the pedals are so close together). I recommend it.

PS: Don't worry about the new seller that ships this. I got it in like two days and it was packaged so well it could probably survive a nuclear holocaust. These guys are pretty legit.
