PS3 Charge Station Review

PS3 Charge Station
Average Reviews:

Bought this dual charge base not too long ago and am very pleased with its performance.very straight forward as far as functionality, charges 2 controllers (can charge up to 4 because it has 2 usb ports on its base) and it plugs into the wall so no more need to leave the ps3 running if you need a charge.

The charger's design is very smart looking and it makes for a nice controller organizer and display. While the controllers are charging, the holsters are lit (red - while charging;green - when fully charged).

Highly recommend this product for anyone who owns a ps3.

Messiah Limited Edition Wireless SNES Controllers Super Nintendo Review

Messiah Limited Edition Wireless SNES Controllers Super Nintendo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have received my shipment of the Messiah Wireless SNES Controllers (from the website itself, if you are looking for some they sell them there since Amazon seems to be out, just type Messiah in Google and click on Messiah Entertainment, Inc.). For the price, I got a few cool little trinkets and things - nothing too mind blowing though. The Special Edition comes with a lunch box, a Messiah dog tag, a manual, and two controllers with receivers.

I have mixed feelings for the controller. For one definite plus, they are wireless, each with four channels to use for connection (in case you feel like getting four of them (you rich person you)). There is also a Turbo feature and a Slow feature, which basically speak for themselves if you've ever bought a third party controller before - Turbo makes (a) button(s) repeat itself over and over (you can just specify one button, a few, or all buttons on this controller), and slow basically pauses the game over and over, creating a "slow" effect.

These buttons (Turbo and Slow), along with Start and Select, are "touch sensitive". From my experience, you still need to give them just a little push, so they aren't REALLY touch sensitive, but they work as far as buttons go.

And L(eft) and R(ight) shoulder buttons are fine. No complains here. But who says I'm complaining? I haven't even started with the major complaint, because the rest of the controller is great...

With the minor exception of the "D-pad". Or, Direction Pad, if you aren't in the know. It's not much of a D-pad itself, it's taken more of the analog sticks we've known for today, like the XBox's S controller (indent for your thumb). Whats weird is that you can spin the nob on the controller as you please, but really does nothing. Why couldn't there be a traditional D-pad, as long as it didn't infringe on Nintendo's patent? Yobo did it. Other third party controllers do it for todays controllers... So why did they feel like adding it here?

It's not the exact same precision as the official SNES controller, but after a few minutes (or hours, depends on who you are) of playing with the D-knob, it doesn't seem so bad. It kind of grows on you... So there really isn't a complaint here, it's just adjusting to the thing is awkward with the first few times of play.

Me, I highly recommend this controller if you are still a SNES enthusiast, if you still dust off SNES carts and give them a go and hate wires, or you want a weird product to go with your weird FC Twin System (guilty as charged). If you don't like adapting to new things, if you can't stand third party controllers, if you are a super SNES l33t person, stay away from these. I love playing Super Metroid on my wide screen without people coming over and tripping over the cords. :)

Xbox 360 Rock Band Stage Kit Review

Xbox 360 Rock Band Stage Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just picked this up after several weeks of considering it to be a very expensive novelty...$100 for an audio-sensing light show and fog machine?Heck...you can pick up a ton of stuff at a local Spencer's Gifts for that price, so why bother with this?It was only when I read that the kit actually SYNCS with the music in Rock Band 2 that I took a closer look.

This kit does NOT use cheap audio sensors to work, e.g. the lights aren't dependent on the beat to function like some cheap novelty light from Spencer's.Instead, each song in Rock Band 1/2 has a specific light show that has been specifically programmed to match, and the kit automatically senses and responds to the songs you've selected. The synchronization is UNCANNY.The strobe fires in JUST the right parts, and is used very sparingly so as not to diminish the effect. The timing of the fogger kicking on is also quite good. For example, it will automatically turn on a few seconds before a killer guitar solo so that you have a great cloud around you when it begins...NICE.

Pros:
1.Now that I have played RB with this kit, playing without it is NOT the same.I'm spoiled with this kit...it makes fake-rocking-out SO much more fun.The fun factor of Rock Band, which is great to begin with, goes right over the top with this kit.
2.Setup is fast and easy.Simply plug the LED unit into the fogger, then plug the fogger into the wall and power up the heating element. It takes perhaps 30 seconds or so to reach operating temperature.Plug the kit into one of the USB ports on the Xbox, and power it on.The unit will do the rest.
3.The fog that came with the unit seemed to dissipate pretty quickly, and was essentially odorless, however I have cathedral ceilings where the unit is used, so a smaller room would likely be much more concentrated in terms of the density of the fog. After about 45 minutes of playing, the entire lower level of my house had a nice haze, but it was completely dissipated after about 15 minutes or so.
4.Durability seems pretty good on the fogger. It seems to be solidly built and resembles the nicer foggers you see for sale around Halloween.
5.As stated above, integration with the game is EXCELLENT.Lots of different patterns with the LED kit, and once you've got some decent fog in the room, the lights really add an interesting dynamic to the game, almost resembling lasers when the lens is set to maximum focus.

Cons:
1.The container of fog solution that comes with the kit is perhaps a half-liter, and does not last long at all.I spent the entire bottle in under an hour, and some songs definitely use more fog than others.I'd recommend buying additional water-based fog solution (I have been unable to locate any official RB fluid locally) ASAP...you will go through the starter bottle very quickly.I ran out and now need to go to Guitar Center or a local party store to buy more.
2.The red and yellow LEDs in the unit are pretty underpowered, though the blue and green are quite bright. It would have been nicer had the red/yellow LEDs been brighter, but they still work quite well in a darkened room.(note - any significant ambient light in the room will heavily diminish the effect, so play in the dark!)
3.The fog machine is a bit noisy when it is firing, but that's nothing that turning up the volume won't fix.:-)
4.The cable that connects the fogger to the LED unit is ridiculously short, perhaps 3-4' max. This forces you to put the units rather close together...not a bad thing, but it limits some flexibility unless you get a longer cable.

Overall, this unit is a great addition to Rock Band 2 if you can afford the price. Were it not for the syncing of the music to the kit, I'd say it was overpriced, but now that I have the kit, I don't regret the purchase at all, and my kids absolutely LOVE it.

Pump It Up: Exceed Bundle PS2 Review

Pump It Up: Exceed Bundle PS2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been playing DDR(Import versions) since it came out for PSOne and was sort of growing tire of it when I was getting to play PS2 versions(US versions)- then heard about "Pump It Up", which is suppose to be more popular than DDR in Asia, Europe, and South America regions- and decided to give it a try; and understood why it was more popular in other regions after few tries.

I definitely agree with other reviews that it feels more of dance moves than just stepping like DDR; Pump it Up added only one more step button in middle and changed '+' format of DDR into 'X' format instead. However, result is quite different because you gotta cover more space and extra step to fill in, resulting in dance-like movement and more rhythm to dance to.

Yes, I guess if you are THE veteran in DDR, you could probably do the headspin and 360 and all, but casual players like me felt more of dance movement because of the middle step button. It's only an extra stepping button yet it's like math where 2square (2x2)is 4 but 3square (3x3) is 9, exponentially giving more variation/freedom to the player.

I did some research when I decided to purchase this game and the feedbacks were overwhelmingly positive; one of my concerns was what if they give you this crappy dance pad since it's coming out at the end of PS2's life cycle??I did a direct comparison with DDR dance pad (one that came as a package with DDR Extreme, 3rd installment in PS2) and not only it has better surface feel to it (more of synthetic nylon feel instead of sorta 'sticky' plastic feel of DDR if you play in bare feet; I always had to wear socks to play DDR but don't need to do that with PIU) but most importantly it has more 'meat' to the dance pad, which is easier on your feet for a long playing time (I play about an hour- looking for a cardio workout??).

Like I said I'm a casual player, but I consider myself pretty good in DDR since I've been playing it for years...and could pretty much cover all the difficult levels in DDR... yet it was a different story with PUMP.May be I haven't gotten familiarized with the 'X' format quite yet, but it becomes way too hard if you are trying to finish even a 'hard' mode(ok, I just blew my cover as a 'pretty good' in DDR... hehe..but PUMP is objectively harder than DDR... try 'CRAZY' or 'NIGHTMARE' mode...you better be in a good shape).

I used to love DDR when it first came out... The idea was refreshing, and I could feel the effort of people involved in making DDR on every step I took on DDR dance pad- yet I feel recent versions have been more of rehash instead of 'evolutionary'; I don't really feel 'soul' in them anymore.

Well, if you are into DDR (or have grown tired of DDR these days)or looking for a dancing game (seriously, just play this sucker for an hour everyday and see what happens) then give Pump It Up a try because you will fall in love with it like I have.Last DDR game lasted only couple days...yeah...but PIU looks even more promising after two weeks of playing. It's probably because of various genre over more than 100 songs and creative background video for each one of them (I believe some of background videos are so cute like cartoons..even kids in elementary will love them).

Ok.. gotta go now for another round of PUMP IT UP...I'm out of shape

Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit with Black Controller Review

Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit with Black Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You get a controller and a charging unit bundled together here.

As far as the Play and Charge Kit is concerned...

This is a must have with your 360 and a controller.

You can plug it in via USB to your Xbox 360 and charge the included battery pack while you play your game.

You can also remove your battery pack, and plug the cable directly to your 360 for wired gaming (so your controller won't shut off while you are in the middle of that hired driver Forza race.

This charges via any USB port on your 360, your computer, your cable box, or your dog (if he has included USB hub).

I recommend buying one of these, then buying the Quick Charge Kit.Then you'll have 2 battery packs, the quick charge dock, and a USB charge cable.

As far as the controller is concerned, it's a great color, and is your typical xbox 360 controller otherwise.Great ergonomics and fits in your color scheme whether you have the black or white console.

Sega Dreamcast Controller Review

Sega Dreamcast Controller

I love this controller. The buttons are all easy to reach. It only takes a split second to switch from the d-pad to the joystick. The triggers are at just the right spot, easy to use but hard to accidently hit.The startbutton is just a little hard to reach, but when you push the start buttonyou usually intend to sit the controller down anyways. The problem is thecord comes out of the bottom, not the top. This feels very akward to me. I am aware that there is the little notch to put the cord in, but why putit there when it would have been just as easy to put the cord where thenotch is.But, the 2 easy to use slots for a memory card and a jump packat the same time is great. This controller is light, durable, and easy touse. As for extra controllers, you only need to buy one, if any.I haveyet to find a game that is compatible for more that 2 players.Butoverall, the controller has to be the best yet.

Playstation 2 and PC Alienware Gamepad Review

Playstation 2 and PC Alienware Gamepad
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I gave this controller a 4 out of 5 stars because I haven't had a problem with it, but then again I only use it for my ps2.

As far a using it for the ps2 system it works excellent and you probably wont find anything better. The control handle is a bit thicker than the normal ps2 controller and gives it a more steady feel in the hands. You may not really notice it much if at all but the feeling of it will feel much better than other ps2 controllers.

Another great feature on this controller is the option of switching the joystick tops, or grips from the standard round ps2 style to the concave type the microsoft did with there controllers. I prefer the concave style so my thumbs are sitting nice and steady of the joysticks instead of constantly adjusting them to the round tops but that is just me.

The D-pad on the alienware controller here is much better than standard ps2 controllers or even some other off brand company controller because instead of the d-pad being 4 individual buttons that can be irritating to use, if you were to use them, is just a single pad that tilts but contains the outlines of the original so its like the standard controller but not. This may not be a serious deal to most people but if you were playing old playstation games on your ps2 like I tend to do than this controller would work wonders for you.

I haven't done much of computer game playing with this controller but from what I did use this controller for I can tell you that it is much better at just being a ps2 controller than a pc controller. It can't just be plugged into the computer and be used and depending on the game it might not even work. The usb connector was pretty unstable and shook loose from the port a few times for me. I don't really know if it was just me or not but I didn't really have much luck with this on the pc but if your looking for a new ps2 controller than this would be a good way to go.

Now for all that your getting this is a pretty decent controller for just around $25 and it comes in 4 colors. I personally got the blue and I really didn't want it cause, not to say the blue it bad, the blue lights just irritate me but thats just me. Of my personally opinion the black or green ones would be nice for anyone but that is just me. Hope I was able to help some people here with this review.

PlayStation 3 Wireless Sixaxis Controller Review

PlayStation 3 Wireless Sixaxis Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The PlayStation 3 controller has gotten a lot of press because of its lack of vibration. However, it is wireless, extremely light, and has tilt sensors in it. This seems a great trade-off during gameplay.

First, let's get through the "bad" that many people have gotten upset about. They took out the rumble controller from the PS3 controller. This was for legal reasons - a company which developed that rumble technology took issue with Sony using it. Some people feel it really affects gameplay not to have that rumbling.

I have to admit that I am VERY happy, personally, that the rumbling is gone. I always turned off the rumble in games where I could. I am on my computer pretty much 24 hours a day, and if I play a game with rumble on, it *kills* my wrists. If you're a rumble fan, this is a decision you'll have to make for yourself.

Now, to the good parts of the controller. First, they all come wireless for the PS3. I *love* love wireless. Wires cause huge clutter in our living room, with all our systems and equipment. You only have to plug the controller in to power it up. It's a regular USB power-up so you can use your iPod's plug (assuming you have an iPod) or plug it into your computer or XBox 360 or anything else with a USB on it. That is to say, you don't have to power it up from your PS3 if you don't want to for some reason.

Next, it is super light! I imagine this is because it doesn't have to hold the motors that cause rumbling. I really appreciate the lightness. You might not notice if you only play a game for an hour or two, but if you're doing marathon sessions of multiple hours, the weight of the controller really does begin to matter.

Just like the Wii controllers, this controller has a tilt sensor in it. It actually knows when you tilt and turn the controller, or shake it. Depending on the game, you can use those tilts to look around or to shake off an enemy. That really gives you much more interactivity with the game, much more than button pushing.

The general controller shape is exactly the same as the PS2 controller. You have a pair of shoulder buttons on each side, two joysticks, four buttons on the right and four directional buttons on the left. There's a PS button in the center, just like there's an XBox button in the middle of the Xbox 360 controller. Also, there are four lights on the unit, to let you know if this controller is #1, #2, #3 or #4 if you are playing multi-player games.

The center PS button lets you turn the unit on and off, which is great if your console is off in a shelf or corner of the room.

In general, I think they did a great job with the PS3 basic controllers. The main console sale both for 20 and 60 comes only with one controller - so be sure to get yourself a second one!

Logitech PS3 / PS2 Wireless Guitar Controller Review

Logitech PS3 / PS2 Wireless Guitar Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This version is a vast improvement on the first edition (red). The physical manufacturing and styling have slightly different elements that add up to a much greater guitar.

I bought 6 of the red editions and didn't get one that was acceptable. The major problem was that the neck experienced a lot of stress during play. The new version corrects this problem by using a tongue and groove design. This one is built to last.

Additionally, the coloring is slightly different for this version. Obviously, the guitar is black. The faceplate is also black. And, not immediately noticeable, the neck is a darker wood. The overall effect is a much sleeker style.

As far as play goes, the guitar is a dream to hold and use. The buttons are solid, easy to find without looking, and fast. The strum bar is actually a light activated device - rather than mechanical. The lack of mechanical parts means it will last for a long time.

The guitar works fine with Rock Band 2. It lacks the wammy style selector - but, this is no great loss. The timing matches RB guitars - so no worries there if you mix guitars.

The guitar has a star-power button that I find works better than swinging the guitar up to activate special powers. The other buttons are hidden in the design and don't get hit on accident during play.

Many have complained about the lack of Bluetooth. Not a big deal to me. The included dongle works fine. The wireless is accurate and the batteries last a long time.

My only reservation with the guitar is the weight. It gets heavy after a few sets - just like a real guitar. So, younger players may have some trouble.

Overall, it is a great addition to your playing experience. I recommend this version over the original.

3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator SE (Standard Edition) 3D Navigation Device USB ( 3DX-700028 ) Review

3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator SE 3D Navigation Device USB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Anyone doing 3D modeling, particularly in architecture, really has to have one of these devices if their software supports it.

The SpaceNavigator supports several products that I use on a daily basis:Graphisoft ArchiCAD, Abvent Artlantis Studio, Google SketchUp and Google Earth.[Right-handed user assumed here...] It is placed to the left of the keyboard, so that you have you right hand still on your mouse. It is not a selection device, but a navigation device.

Navigating in 3D in many 3D applications is a jerky process - smooth pan, rotate, etc followed by moving your mouse to a new position (causing a pause in the action) and start moving again.

With the SpaceNavigator, movement is fluid and (if you change the preferences to high speed) - fast (and fun)!

The SpaceNavigator can be set up to work in your model in either a fly-through mode or in 'object' mode.I prefer 'object' mode.If I am looking at a building, the movement of my hand on the SpaceNavigator is identical to if I was holding a physical model of that building in my hand.If I rotate away from me, the building rotates away.Push to the left, the building pans to the left.Lift on the knob, the building rises on the screen.Etc.Extremely intuitive and slightly immersive.

In ArchiCAD or Artlantis, I can work much faster than with mouse alone... and in perspective mode,so the views are more realistic.I can instantly get to the back side of the building, looking up at the fascia to deal with a rafter issue there, for example.

I'm a heavy user of keyboard shortcuts, and do not find that it interferes at all with that, as suggested by another reviewer. The device is immediately to the left of my Cap Lock key, so it is milliseconds to get my hand back over the keyboard.

With clients, there is almost no need to generate animations (movies) since you can move accurately and fluidly in OpenGL to walk through a building in real time. But, even for animations, the SpaceNavigator lets you quickly set up camera positions.

Google Earth is pretty fun with it, too - again, completely fluid navigation, vs the move, pause, jerk kind of navigation achieved with a mouse.

Note that this review is on the SE page, but applies to the PE model as well. The license is the only thing I hate about this thing. The SE and PE models are identical, differing only in their license details. The SE is for non-commercial work, the PE for commercial (for profit). You can 'upgrade' an SE to a PE on the manufacturer web site - although it is cheaper to buy a PE here at Amazon in the first place.

Saitek P990 Dual Analog Game Pad Review

This is the new improved version of the p880, which got lots of great reviews on Amazon. I've now played with this for a couple of hours and I'm EXTREMELY happy with it! It is perfect in every way! First, the gamepad is much bigger than the two logitech gamepads they had at circuit city. I like that, cuz my hands are large. The smaller gamepads are like they're made for little kids. Anyway, p990 is also lightweight. It has a cool blue light so you can see the buttons in the dark. It's bright, but it doesn't distract me while I'm playing games. I like the shape of the gamepad and the arrangement of all the buttons and controls. There is nothing to improve, as far as I'm concerned. Everything works great. I like very much that there are 6 buttons on top. This is great for fighting games like Mortal Kombat. There are two buttons on each shoulder. I read that's good for sports games, such as football and basketball. So there's a grand total of 10 buttons. Both of the dual analog joysticks were PERFECTLY calibrated right out of the box. I didn't have to adjust anything. All I did was plug in the joystick in the USB port and turn on my PC. It was automatically detected and installed. Only thing I did was check out the buttons in the joystick control panel to see how they worked and to see everything was perfect. The analog joysticks worked very well in several different 3D driving and flying games I tried. I was satisfied with them. This is great. Now I have both analog & digital control all in one unit. A software CD is included, but I didn't bother trying to use it yet. I also didn't try using the button that's supposed to load configurations for first person shooter games. The right side analog joystick is labeled "mouse look." I guess I'll update this review after I've tried an FPS with this gamepad. I wouldn't hestitate to buy it. It's incredible! It's a million times better than my old gravis gamepad pro.

I bought this originally for rock band on the ps2 because it was the only mic in stock. It worked for my PsII, even though it said PsIII mic. Then we got an xbox360 and i bought rock band for that as well and this mic worked just fine. All in all, it works for xbox360 which is all i really need it for.So if you're shifting between xbox 360and playstation consoles for games which require a mic, this one may be for you.
