Ehrgeiz Review

Why has everyone overlooked "Ehrgeiz"?OK, aside from the fact that its name doesn't include the word "Tekken".Sheesh.
I *hated* fighting games before Ehrgeiz.Too much immature button-mashing,favoring speed over any kind of strategy, improvisation, or skill.InEhrgeiz, there's great depth in understanding and maximizing your character-- each has strengths and weaknesses, and the fun is from using your moneymoves while knowing how to stop your opponent's.
A knock against the gameis a widespread allegation of unbalanced, overpowered attacks.Pish.Mostattacks can be blocked; all can be dodged, countered, and/orinterrupted.
Yeah, the bonus games are fun, but the action at the heartof the fighting mode is solid.Don't let this one get away.

Product Description:
Editorial ReviewWith a fighting mode, four mini-games, and a stand-alone role-playing game (RPG), Ehrgeiz is essentially six games for the price of one. First, duke it out as one of 10 playable characters (3 of which are from the popular RPG Final Fantasy VII) in hand-to-hand and weapons-based combat. There are 11 different fighting environments to tackle, including a moving train and a hovering airship. Ehrgeiz scores points for diversity. The arsenal of warriors is comprised of various ages, nationalities, and sexes--all of whom are eager to win the ultimate fighting championship. The prize is a mysterious weapon (the strangely dubbed Ehrgeiz). There are a gazillion moves to memorize, and the fluid movement and fantastic secret weapons provide great eye candy. In addition to fighting, players will also encounter mini-games, such as the foot race "Battle Beach" and strategy game "Battle Panel" (think Othello). This game also contains several elements that will be instantly familiar to RPG fans. Ehrgeiz may not satisfy gamers who want a dedicated RPG or fighting game, but it does offer a diverse range of gameplay for the casual gamer with a limited attention span

I was impressed by the Armada one I played the whole thing at least 3 or 4 times, butwhen Armada two came out I was hooked this is one of those games you will be up all night playing, "just one more level" right? the story line is great the graphics are are par. This game while somewhat pricey, still even though its getting old... is definetly worth it. I have owned the game for two and half years and still enjoy it very much.

Unreal Championship 2 The Liandri Conflict Review

Unreal Championship 2 The Liandri Conflict
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Unreal Championship 2 - Circa 2005

GOOD:
- Play over Xbox-Live (and has downloadable content)
- Gameplay is very different which makes it not another Halo clone
- Graphics look great (Halo 2/Doom 3 quality)
- Over the top matrix or anime style gameplay
- Unique characters and unique setting
- Lot's of maps and gameplay modes

BAD:
- Not really recommend getting this game if you don't have Xbox-Live or play a lot of system link
- Fast and furious game play maybe too much for some who like slower paced FPS like Rainbow six or Counter Strike
- New gameplay style may be difficult to get use to
- Controls are difficult master
- A.I. can be brutal and unforgiving, especially on higher difficulty
- To unlock most of the characters or bonuses you have to play a lot of the single player levels

IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- Great multiple player game on either Xbox-live or system link, Single player is also great training
- This Unreal takes place in a Sci-fi futuristic Egyptian world sort of like Star Gate or Chronicles of Riddick
- First person or third person camera (switch at any point)
- Gameplay is really over the top even when compared to other games of its type like Unreal 2004 and Quake 3
- All characters not only use guns and rockets (etc) but swords staff's and some even use brute strength

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Jedi Knights Academy 2
- Unreal Championship

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- You can do Mortal Kombat style Fatalities and Radien (from Mortal Kombat) is an unlockable character

Tactical Ops Review

Tactical Ops
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
*** If you're not familiar with Counter-Strike... ***
In general terms, Tactical Ops is a first-person shooter with realism added into it.There are 2 opposing teams - Special forces and Terrorists. The player chooses one of the teams to play on.There are various weapons available: pistols, sub-machine guns, rifles, and grenades. These weapons are bought with money that is assigned to each player, which accumulates with more kills the player makes. The objective of the game is to eliminate the players on the opposing team by killing them or rescuing hostages.Unlike Doom, Quake or Duke Nukem 3D games, players do not respawn immediately after they die. They need to wait until the round ends - when one of the teams is eliminated. This game began as a mod (modification) of Unreal Tournament a few years ago and eventually became retail - following the footsteps of Counter-Strike, a Half-Life mod.
*** If you have already tried Counter-Strike... ***
Tactical Ops is very similar to CS (Counter-Strike).A major difference between the two, which may have caused many of the players to switch from CS to this game, is the dynamics. When someone shoots you in CS, you immediately slow down a lot - thus, giving that person a high advantage, and which usually means that whoever shoots first would normally get the kill. This is not true in Tactical Ops - your speed remains unchanged even when someone is shooting at you, making the game more fair. Also, the gameplay is a little faster, meaning that the walking speed is slightly faster compared to that of CS.In addition, the height of jumping is a bit higher in Tactical Ops.HE grenades are more realistic: maximum damage is instant death when the player gets too close to one when it explodes.Graphics are slightly more crisp in Tactical Ops than in CS.The substantial dynamics of this game have caused me to be entirely absorbed with this game.
*** If you're already playing Tactical Ops... ***
This retail version has a slight improvement in graphics - I personally think the graphics right now are superb already.More maps are included in this version.A few new weapons are out and new skins for some of the current weapons are revamped.New female skins for both Special Forces and Terrorists are available.Other new features may have also been included - check with the official Tactical Ops site.Gameplay should be identical to that of Version 2.2.
*** Conclusion ***
A very playable, absorbing, dynamic and stress-relieving game!Though unoriginal, this game is highly recommended for players that like first-person shooters. If you've got good skills/strategy/tactics in first-person shooting, then Tactical Ops is very adaptable, though new techniques such as timing grenade throwing, and learning to reload at the right times need to be learnt.A must-buy!

System Shock 2 Review

System Shock 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ever since the original System Shock appeared in 1994, I have wanted a sequel. Despite how antiquated the old game is, I still go back and play it over again to this day. And now, at last, we have System Shock 2 -- aboutas close to playing the lead role in a sci-fi thriller movie as most peoplecan get.
First off, you'll need a pretty powerful system to play thisgame at its fullest -- I have a Pentium II 300 MHz with 128 megs of RAM,and a 16 MB Riva TNT video board...SS2 runs fine for me at 640x480, with alittle choppiness here and there. My only complaint is that it seems totake a long time (20-30 seconds I guess?) to load a saved game.
But thataside, you'll never notice any choppiness. You'll forget it's even acomputer game. You'll be too busy gritting your teeth in terror as you hearthe footsteps of someone -- or something -- approaching you, wondering ifthat one last slug in your shotgun will be enough -- and praying that yourbadly-damaged weapon won't jam when you pull the trigger. These types ofscenarios are common in SS2 -- weapons degrade and misfire, ammunition isat a premium, and the approaching footsteps of the nearby mutated monstersor security robots are ultra-realistic. The only way to play this game iswith the lights off, in a quiet room, through a good surround speakersystem or headphones. You will come to appreciate the suspense, theatmosphere, and the downright creepiness of the thing that muchquicker.
Previous reviewers were right when they said this is a thinkingperson's 3D shooter. And indeed, it is almost more of an RPG than a pureaction game like Quake, et al. There's a wonderful character developmentsystem, which is neither too simple nor too complex...you must build yourskills and abilities, ranging from what weapons you are best with, howeasily you can repair things or hack computers, etc. You CANNOT max-outeverything -- so you will have to choose which skills to concentrate on.Throughout the game, there are numerous tasks you must perform, apart fromkilling things, to get to the bottom of the mysterious forces at work onthe Von Braun, the starship you awake on at the beginning of the game. Those of you who have played the original System Shock are in for lots ofwonderful tie-ins and surprises. There is one particularly horrifyingrevelation near the middle of the game -- during which you are reintroducedto an old friend -- that had my jaw hanging open for about half an hour. There is more atmosphere, suspense, and pure terror here than in any gameI've ever played before...including the Resident Evil series.
If you orsomeone you know is a fan of single-player action/adventure games and likesthe first-person shooter role, System Shock 2 is an absolute MUST HAVE, nodoubt about it. Get this game immediately. I am certain that you will notregret it.

Xtreme Legends: Dynasty Warriors 4 Review

Xtreme Legends: Dynasty Warriors 4
Average Reviews:

I have played DW4:XL for a solid day now, and I must confess that, wow, this is tough!
After complaints of the difficulty of DW3:XL, I thought that KOEI had given in to das man, and DW4 seemed much easier than either of its predecessors. In fact, I could (and did) play through the game on hard level with EVERY character, starting with INITIAL stats. No more, though, heh heh
If you didn't like the first XL, don't bother with this one. The Archers have returned and are as cheap as ever, and charged officers can lay even the best players low in a matter of seconds. Still, for those who enjoyed DW3:XL, you'll find a lot here.
Each character has a "Legend" mode, which is one level devoted to that character alone. I was quite happy with these in general (e.g. Jiang Wei must hold off the Wei army while keeping his stupid emperor, Liu Chan, from surrendering the city; Lu Xun attempts to navigate Zhuge Liang's Stone Sentinel Maze, fighting off the ambushes and traps along the way). The player is rated on how well he does during the level, and higher ratings (I think) can net new (level 11) weapons and higher level items. But man, is it tough!
Also, an extreme mode has been added. Here a player chooses one character and (with initial data and weapon) must survive a series of fictitional "Missions". There are no meat buns or the like to be found on these levels; you must buy such items with the points you accumulate during your travels. This mode is pretty fun, but I found it a tad too easy for my taste.
Of course, you can load old DW4 data and play through Musou and Free modes, but the real fun here is the "Legends" mode. The 42 new levels alone are worth the price of admission, IMHO.
BUT, if you were frustrated by the ridiculous difficulty of the previous XL ofering, DON'T BUY THIS ONE! No shame; at times, I wonder if expert difficulty is meant for fun or suffering myself!

I scoured the Web to find info on the Advanced AV Pack with no luck.I called several stores, got a different answer from each one, all of which turned out to be wrong. So here's the real scoop: The Advanced AV Pack has an S-Video output, a standard RCA-type analog video output, RCA-type analog left and right audio outputs, and an optical audio output. An S-Video cable is included. My TV doesn't have S-Video; I bought it purely for the Dolby Digital 5.1 output, which is absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!It's definitely worth it for the digital surround sound alone!Remember, for Dolby Digital sound you'll need a Toslink optical cable, and an Xbox game (like Ghost Recon) that supports Dolby Digital.

Dark Cloud 2 Review

Dark Cloud 2
Average Reviews:

Until I beat this game, I was playing it for about 5 hours a day, which is unusual for me. It took me at least 50 hours to beat it. I am a veteran 26-year-old gamer.
While the original Dark Cloud was sort of a Zelda 64 clone, this new one has many new innovations that make it a huge improvement over the first (which was a fun game as well, actually). The two most noticable improvements are the cel-shaded graphics and the fact that the weapons don't break permanently (good news).
The voice-overs are pretty good, although there are probably too many cut scenes. The combat is action-oriented, and fun, for the most part. All in all, this game is more deep and entertaining than you might think. There is not much to complain about, and it is a welcome addition to the Playstation 2 library!

PS3 Media Hub + Review

PS3 Media Hub +
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this to complement my Playstation 3 console. It is well built, and comes with 2 adapters: one for the 40 GB PS3, and one for the 20,60, and 80 GB PS3s.

I think the adapters are mis-labeled (the labeling is molded into the actual adapter). I struggled to get the Media Hub to lock on to my system with the 40 GB adapter, but when I tried with the other adapter, it clicked right into place. The adapters have two small nibs that "lock" the media hub into place on the PS3 by way of the front air vents.

The Media Hub brings the total number of USB ports on my PS3 to four. With the 40 GB PS3, the media hub can only be plugged into the LEFT USB port. It molds perfectly with the PS3 face, and can be used when the PS3 is in the vertical and horizontal positions.

The only thing I would suggest for Nyko to improve is that the matte black finish should be gloss black to match the finish of the PS3. It's a minor quibble, but would improve the aesthetics of the unit. Also, the Media Hub only "adds" the capability for two additional USB devices, not three. The 40 GB PS3 has two USB ports. Adding this device brings the total to four, not five (since one of the existing USB ports is taken up by the device).

It is a very capable USB hub and card reader.

Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires Review

Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
_Okay.So I bought this game mainly on the basis of my friend's recommendation.I was extremely happy with it, and surprised by the sheer fun of this game.Kill hundreds of enemy soldiers using many many unique weapons and styles of combat, and conquor China.I won't go into every specific detail about gameplay, but I will say this was a very well made game.I'll break it down in an attempt to overview important buying info.

-Graphics: Good. Not great, but good.Game experiances phantom slowdowns every once in a while though. Not -often- but so far three times in the time I've played it.I've beaten the game once, and I'm halfway through it again.

-Music: To be honest I've never noticed the in-game music.Too busy slaughtering unworthy minions.I really like the menu backround music though.Catchy.

-Gameplay: It's been said in other reviews that you will encounter enemy officers so absurdly cheap that they will juggle you from full health to nothing without you ever hitting the ground.I bought this game assuming it was an exaggeration by frustrated gamers.LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE :(Okay, with that out of the way, comes the other incredibly annoying point in gameplay.Archers/sourcers.Ranged attacks that will range from knocking you back (stopping your momentum), to knocking you straight on your butt.Absurdly cheap and annoying and they appear in large groups.Good news is that they don't deal any appreciable amount of damage and can be disposed of quickly enough.Bad news is that they tend to appear alongside cheap officers.
__Okay, those points made, comes the good news.Officers are (keywords here) *not commonly* that cheap. The game makes it however so you have to be just as cheap in defeating them to stand any chance. But it's possible.Take note that charged attack combos are your friends. And for fair warning, I just went around, killed 820 minions in a battle (took 25 minutes), then got double-teamed by two such cheap officers.
___My last issue with gameplay is arrows. You get a bow and can use it at will.Aiming and firing is quite simple, and it does a decent amount of damage. The main use for it is hitting distant archers or dismounting people riding on war elephants.(you get to ride elephants and horses in this game, yes). What's my beef? You get a very limited number of arrows to begin with, and finding them in battle is rare.I don't see any point in making a rarely used weapon even more worthless. It'd be *balanced* if you had unlimited, since I can take out literally 40 enemies for the time it takes to kill one via bow and arrow. So they really limited something already limited.

-Controls: Almost everything you'd want or need.Except the gaurd button. You are given a button that gaurds you against pretty much all attacks from the front. One would assume this would mean from just the very front, but apparently not.Enemy officers can block attacks even from the sides. You however, can only block attacks from the few pixels in the center of the screen. In other words, does not work 99% of the time. This would be a most negligible point since I've only ever needed to block against officers.Namely, the cheap ones. However, they can block with almost invernerability, while you can't ever block their attacks.Makes those cheap guys even more frustrating.
__Last point on controls however, you do get a taunt!Very funny, especially when you kill two or three people by taunting. In this catagory I'll list that the camera is of course in third person, and it works well.Gaurd button also functions to reorient the camera behind you, which you will need to do from time to time.

-Replay: A game's true value will always boil down to it's replayvalue.I think the replay value is high. You can always start a new conquoring campaign. And campaigns will always be different every time. The other empires struggling for control will do different things each time, form different alliances, invade different areas and all that.Plus...the campaign mode comes with a "fictional" mode, where you start a campaign with RANDOMLY placed enemies. That just makes it all so much more interesting.

-Edit character mode: The product hilight makes much mention of the character edit mode. It's slightly overrated however. The game gives you access to MANY, MANY unique weapons, which is a big plus. And any custom character can use any weapon. But when it comes down to making your stats, you get only 7 different pre-made sets to work with.Something I found out is that character's run speed, not listed in the stat sets, is also effected by what you choose.Anyway, when it comes to your character's model, the options you get for dressing them up is vastly limited.Definitely better than nothing, don't get me wrong. But for a system that supposedly has been upgraded from a previous game, couldn't they give me more than 3 different heads for my chosen body type?
__In basic, it's nice, but don't expect as much as you'd get from the latest Wrestlemania game.

-Multiplayer: Weak at best.Don't get this game expecting it to be a fantastic multiplayer game. You get four different verses battles, none of which is particularly exiting.Co-op story mode would have been very easily programmed in, and this game would have been fantastic with it.Oh well.

-Other notes: This is definitely a slaher game, but it has its strategy elements to it.Pick who you bring into battle, what political moves you make, manage your gold. How you use your leadership may make your life incredibly difficult or easy, depending on what you do and what sort of luck you have that game.Remember things are different each time, so choose your decisions wisely.

_I gave this a fun rating of 5, because I think it is, but overall is 4 due to cheap officer fights.A little bit of cheapness here and there wouldn't be aggrevating, but spending 25 minutes decimating close to a kilo of troops to be gang-raped by two cheap officers? That's just not cool.As I said before, luckily it doesn't happen often, but if you play through the campaign mode it will happen to you, no doubt.
_I would rate this title a definite buy.How it stands against other Dynasty games I do not know, as this is my first. If that is the information you seek, I'd advise reading articles posted by others who have played them.Standing alone, this is a very fun game however.

I booted this into my playstation expecting a sub-par game at best. What I got was a completely unexpected treat of a game.
Jackie Chan's Stuntmaster brings you back to the days of Streets of Rage, wanderingdifferent locations like City Streets, Docks and other areas, coming acrosstons of bad guys trying to get in your way. With a simple control system(Punch, kick, Grapple, Block), you can pull off some classic Jackie ChanCombos.
I was just blown away by how fun this game was. Jackie Chan andhis incredible fighting style was a big part of it. You can do all hiscombos, grapple moves, kicks, flips off walls, etc..all in blazing fastspeed. The game also features cut-scenes thare both beautifully renderedand hilarious. Jackie's humor is seen quite frequently through the game.(Be sure to check out the credits - the game actually has the trademarkJackie Chan outtakes).

Heroes of Might and Magic IV Complete Review

Heroes of Might and Magic IV Complete

This is the complete set of Heroes of Might and Magic 4 with both expansion packs: The Gathering Storm and The Winds of War.

This is thought to be the weakest game in the series by some and possibly the second best by others. Most people who play the HOMM series agree the 3rd is by far the best.

That being said, Heroes 4 is a pretty good game; capable of consuming the hours of your life at huge chunks at a time. The emphasis in this installment moved from the heroes armies to the actual heroes themselves. Moving from the side lines to the battle, the heroes make yet another piece on the battlefield to conquer and strategize.

The two expansions are, unfortunately, some of the worst expansions ever made for a game. At the time, the parent company 3DO was going under and needed to make some quick cash so they pumped out these two expansions asap. Missing any sort of real animations or plausible story which made the series to this point, most serious Heroes fans skipped over these two titles.

This beats any other American music game that has came out so far, and yet nobody has even took the time to review it! The object of the game is to press buttons in time with the beat of songs, while this nay sound shallow at first, you really have to play it to understand that this is a greatgame. Simmilar to a fighting game in the way it is set up, you first choose1 of 10 (14 when you beat the game with certain people)dancers, then you goto anouther dancers stage. Music begins playing ( different for eachpersons stage) and you must press the buttons accordingly. The charatersrange from Hiro (a disco dancer with a very 70's dance style, to Kelly (myfavorite) who is a woman dressed in a fetish costume. There is even"Kitty-N", who looks like a teenage version of cat woman. TheONLY 2 thing's wrong with this game are: 1.Pinky's stage and 2.All dancershave the same button combanations. For the music alone this game is worthpicking up. Bust A Groove 2: dance heaven mix is coming ............. and Iown the import! It is a wonderful game and you may wish to purchase it whenit arrives stateside ...... Although you should be warned that thisgame was edited when it was brought to the US just like Umjammer Lammy, still it's a great game and you really should get it. Music games are greatand you may also wish to try Dance Dance Revolution.

Culdcept Saga Review

Culdcept Saga
Average Reviews:

After having played the PS2 version, I was extremely excited when I found out that they were going to make one for the 360. It's basically the same game with some added features, and that's EXACTLY what I would have wanted.

Some people may find it slow-paced. Think of this as a board/card game, not a video game.
Some people may find the voiceovers/plot horrible. This is not a game you play for the story, but for the pure gameplay alone.
Some people may find the graphics subpar. This is not a game you play for the shininess.

If you can get past that stuff, you have a serious gem on your hands with Culdcept Saga.

Join the journey of two friends who battle together to fight enemies and bring peace back to their country. Conquer the elements, takeover lands, and defeat your foes. The collection of cards in your book is your weapon. How you use them depends on your objective - your game, it's your choice.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Review

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Guitar Hero 3 (GH3) is the fourth iteration in this series of games despite it being labeled the third, though for most people the 80s edition that was the actual third game was a bit of a footnote since it only came out on PS2 and had very little in it that differed from Guitar Hero 2 other than the songs.

GH3 continues with the same basic formula as the previous games which will keep fans of the series happy, but at the same time adds some welcome new features. One of the best additions is that of online play so that you can now do co-op, face-off, pro face-off and battle mode with a friend over the Live network.

The battle mode is a change up from the normal face-off modes in that instead of gaining star power you acquire attacks from playing certain sequences of notes. Then when you turn the guitar up as if you were going to use star power it instead launches an attack at your opponent. The attacks vary in their nastiness and while I was skeptical of this new aspect of the game it's actually a nice twist for those more competitive players.

Another addition is the co-op career mode, but unfortunately you can't play this mode online which means you'll have to get a friend over with their guitar to experience this mode.

Speaking of the guitar the new wireless Gibson Les Paul style guitar controller is a welcome change from the original 360 GH2 controller. Overall it just feels a lot more solid, especially the whammy bar. Not being wired makes a big difference in terms of convenience. There are GH3 bundles out there with the original GH2 controller in them and I would recommend passing on those in favor of the wireless bundle.

The career mode remains mostly the same as in the previous games. There are now little animated vignettes between each set that don't add much to the overall experience, but certainly are a welcome change from the old bus driving across the country scenes in the previous games. The other addition to career mode is that at the end of certain sets you have to enter battle mode with another guitarist. By now most people know that Tom Morello and Slash are the two real guitarists who you battle against in the game. Both contributed original guitar compositions for their battle sections and can be unlocked as avatars in the game.

The playing experience itself is much the same, though it seems the game is even more forgiving in the timing of when you play notes than even GH2 was and hammer-ons and pull-offs are also very easy to do. For experienced players this will obviously make the game easier in some respects, but at the same time the note structure has been mixed up a bit and the later songs are pretty challenging on Hard and Expert.

While the multiplayer aspect adds a lot more playability to the game at the same time the core of the experience remains the songs and for this game there are even more original songs than before and the song list is pretty great.

Overall GH3 rocks the house in much the same way as the previous games, but with the addition of some new features it doesn't feel like more of the same. Multiplayer adds a new aspect that should give the game a lot more life overall between those times when you get your friends over to the house.

Here is the list of tracks by the original artists (or in the case of Talk Dirty to Me, original vocalist) used in the game. This doesn't include the bonus tracks by the less well known artists.
