Xbox Wireless Kombat Arcade Stick Review

Xbox Wireless Kombat Arcade Stick
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this with an Xbox->USB adapter for use with my livingroom based computer and arcade games. Windows recognizes it as a native game controller right away without any special drivers.Fired up Ms. Pacman and immediately felt much more at home vs. playing with a gamepad. The controls are a little squishy compared to a true arcade stick, but this is probably due to the analog capabilities.Tried a few other games, the buttons are nice and crisp.

Overall it's a very nice addition and it works quite well.Worth the $30 for sure.

RAZER Copperhead Razor High Precision Gaming Mouse (Anarchy Red) Review

RAZER Copperhead Razor High Precision Gaming Mouse
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
-It might not have a fly wheel scrolling but the 2000dpi does show its fangs in FPS games. Really cool mouse.

-Had no problems with it, been using it for almost half a year.

-I cant say that its a flaw but I have to remove the mouse every time I goto sleep as the red light stays on and it stands out damn well in the dark.

-It does have some issues with Linux (Ubuntu). It needs to unplugged and pluged after startup for Linux to recognize the mouse. But all the 7 buttons have the same default configuration in Linux and the work fine after the mouse has been repluged in.

-Considering the linux incompatibility and also the low amount of such high sensitive mouse in linux, I might give the mouse 4.9 rating. So I have to go for a 5 as thats the closest.

Xbox360 Fighting Stick EX 2 - Soul Calibur 4 Limited Edition Review

Xbox360 Fighting Stick EX 2 - Soul Calibur 4 Limited Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this joystick so I could really enjoy the arcade feel of playing fighting games as well as the Xbox Live Arcade games I own. The description for the product isn't that great so I thought I would provide some more information on this product. The stick itself feels pretty responsive although it does make a clicking noise when it is pressed against the edges. I'm assuming that was done to let the player know they are successfully pulling off motions. I personally don't mind it, especially with the game volume on.

The joystick is indeed wired but it is very long so I don't see it being an issue for most people. Wireless would of been nice but I guess at least this way you have zero chance of losing a signal in a heated match (although I've never lost a signal with my normal 360 controller). The cord does have a release in case you tug too hard on it just like the older Xbox controllers. You connect the joystick via USB (flap by power button on console).

The joystick itself feels pretty sturdy and is responsive. It does not include any special features such as slow motion or turbo in case that's your thing(like the old school NES Advantage). The only reason that I have not given this joystick a full 5 rating is because the joystick is not compatible with a lot of non-fighting games. The stick is mapped to the directional pad anddoes not support Analog control. What this means is you can't use it for most other non-fighting games like Lost Odyssey that support movement with the analog stick. Not a big deal since I got this stick for fighting games only but I thought everyone should know.

I can't speak to it's long term durability at this time but will probably update this review in a month's time to indicate whether the stick becomes too loose or buttons become non responsive.

*Update: Well, I've been using this joystick for about a month now and it's still good as new.The stick is not loose and the buttons are still very responsive. Overall, a very nicely made joystick.

PlayStation 2X Network Adaptor Review

PlayStation 2X Network Adaptor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well so far the network adaptor is a great investment. I've already been playing Madden and SOCOM online for 2 weeks and everything has worked practically flawlessly. There have been some server issues with SOCOM(great game btw) initially, but they have since been ironed out for the most part. With Madden, I've tested both BB and 56k(my cousin has 56k only)and BB seems to be lag free for the most part in my area, but 56k chugged a bit in Madden at my cousin's house using his network adaptor, but remained playable. Setting up the Adaptor itself was pretty easy...probably took me no more than 5 minutes to install it and get up and running online. I'm sure it won't be that easy for everyone out there, but it was for me. The step by step interface was quite clean and easy to navigate and pretty helpful. There is also a little video to help you in case you're having difficulty. You'll also need just 137kb of free space on your memory card to save all your network settings. All in all, I'm quite happy with my experience so far. The adaptor was easy to setup, and comeswith two playable demos, Madden2003 online and Frequency online and also a few video only demos of THPS4, Automodelista and a couple others. And all these games are free to play online. No subscription fee's or the like, whch is the best part about it.You can play Tony Hawk 4, Madden 2003, SOCOM, ATV 2, NFL2k3, NBA2k3, Tribes, Twisted metal Black online on your PS2, all day for free. So, if you can find one, I recommend picking one up, espsecially broadband users. And to name some exiting upcoming online titles inlude Syphon Filter, Gran Turismo 4, DestructionDerby 3, Madden 2004, NBA2k4, NFL2k4, Automodellista, Final Fantasy XI, BiohazardOnline, to name a few. PS: You might see something that looks like an orange sparkin the front of the console near the vents when putting on the console. Don't worry, that is just an Orange LED that lights up when the adaptor is accessed. I never knew there was an orange LED in the front, so I was taken a back at first)

The PS2 network adapter offers both dialup and broadband connectivity toplay PS2 games online. It includes a startup disc with playable demos ofFrequency and Madden NFL 2003, as well as video demos of ATVOffroad Fury 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, and Tribes: AerialAssault.
To use the network adapter, you need a PlayStation2 game system, an 8 MB memorycard with at least 137 KB of space, and a dialup or broadband Internetconnection with an Internet service provider. The network adapter works withjust about any ISP service, including AOL, AT&T WorldNet, EarthLink,Prodigy/SBC, and Sympatico. Check with your ISP for details.
Connect the network adapter to the PlayStation2 system by lining up the unit'sconnectors to the expansion bay located in the rear of the PS2. Once yourhardware is set up, the user must insert the network adapter startup disc inorder to configure the ISP network data and connect to the Internet. Simply gothrough the ISP setup process located on the main menu of the startup disc. Yournetwork configuration data will be saved onto your memory card. The ISP networkconfiguration will work only on the specific PlayStation2 system you used forthe initial ISP setup. Network configuration data is not transferable fromsystem to system.

Fang Gamepad by Ideazon Review

Fang Gamepad by Ideazon
Average Reviews:

This is a case where Amazon's review system is not working well - or at least, what it is giving the most prominence to is out of date. When I go to the customer review page, what is currently listed as "the most helpful critical review" is 100% lying to you about The Fang product you'd be buying - it is indeed now fully programmable. There are also several other older (year+) reviews listed prominently (on the first page) stating it's not programmable.

It is programmable on a key-by-key basis, and has been for about a year now.You can whip up all the personally customized key profiles you want.

On the product itself, where the ring, middle and index finger rest in the center - there is nothing better. It's not perfect, but it is far better in that area than anything else being sold right now.

The Fang is weak in the thumb area, this is it's main drawback. The Merc Keyboard (a Fang and keyboard merged) looks like it keeps what is good about the Fang and improves the thumb area substantially. For me personally, I like having a separate device from the keyboard.

Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander Review

Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I learned of this device from a friend, I had two questions: "Does it work with NovaLogic's "Black Hawk Down" game and "How much does it cost?" TO answer the first question, I contacted NovaLogic and asked them if this device would work with BHD - however, they informed me that BHD was not designed for 'game controllers'. Since this device is NOT a 'game controller (joystick, gamepad, etc) I concluded it would work fine (additionally, my friend also uses his for BHD as well). So I purchased it. As to the cost? Well, that is variable depending on where you get it.
It took me a couple of minutes to install the Commander on my XP system (USB), and I was programming the buttons shortly thereafter. Note: This does *not* replace your mouse or keyboard. It is a great addition to allow you to move your character around, perform things like crouch, jump, reload, lean, roll, hop, go prone, select weapon, emote, etc all from just 6 keys. It comes pre-programmed to allow you to move it forward and sideways to replace the keyboard directional keys (it does not "roll" on the desktop, rather, the top unit 'slides' (Forward, Backwards, Left, Right) on top of the stationary base. It also has a 'twist' function, if you desire that can be programmed as well.
Since it's designed for LEFT hand use, I found it took a short time to get used to it while mousing with my right hand (I keep the mouse for the LOOK functions and scope functions). It feels solid on my desktop and is easy to use. It does not slide around due to the rubber feet.
You can 'record' and program keyboard shortcuts on the fly (with the RECORD button), oryou can use the interface program to program your buttons. Each button has a function along with three "shift" functions (the shift button is beneath your thumb). All told, it will handle up to 72 keyboard (macro) commands (arrows, scroll lock, etc) so you do not have to take your hand off the controller to do in-game functions. NOTE: This is not a "CHEAT" - it just allows you to move your hand faster and not lose your concentration. (You can also program multiple keyboard combinations as well as a one-button 'macro')
All in all, it's worth the money. You can switch from 3 profiles on the fly - and you can save and load mappings as well. For instance, you can have one profile as a gunner, one for a medic, one for a sniper, etc.
As it works well with BHD, I'd expect the same to be true for "Battlefield: 1942" and other 3D combat games. It comes with profiles for about 30 other games (2D strategy games like Ages of Empires, etc).
Retail price for this is about $60 (and I could never find one locally) but you can find it online for much less (probably less than half of the MSR price - I got mine for about $21 + shipping).I've been using mine for several days and I'm very happy with it. It definitely enhances the game.

Universal Microphone Stand Review

Universal Microphone Stand
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, so this is a microphone stand.Plain and simple. The clips to hold controller are very useful, and the clip actually holds some older video game USB microphones, unlike other mic stands. The stand is made of plastic with mostly plastic connnections, which means that you can't get the adjustable parts as tight as you'd like. The main adjuster requires two hands on the lower part of the stand to tighten adequately, so if you go the wrong way, the mic will slide down and you'll have to reposition. If you want to hold the mic while you sing on the stand, it may slide down even when fully tightened. Also, the screw on the mic clip is loose, so expect to tighten it before you play with a Phillips head screwdriver. The clip is removable, so you could put it on a real mic stand if this one ever breaks. The major design flaw is that the controller clip for Xbox 360 does not let you hook up a plug and play charger to it while it's clipped on.So while I'd have loved to use this time to charge my batteries, I can't.

To sum it up: It's a cheap plastic stand with tightening issues, a great clip design for holding the microphone, and a controller clip that won't let you charge an Xbox 360 controller. If you can live with the above-stated problems, then you should be fine.I am satisfied, considering.

Sony DVD - Remote control - infrared Review

Sony DVD - Remote control - infrared
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This remote control converts a Play Station 2 console into a full-featured DVD player. It does this in two ways.First, it improves upon the existing PS2 DVD Player software. For my unit, the version of DVD player jumped from 1.30U to 2.10U.Second, it provides a wireless remote control with every function you could want plus a few.
The package ships with an instruction manual, the DVD Player 2.1 disk, two AAA batteries, a small stub IR receiver. The first disappointment is that the receiver is NOT a passthrough.Fortunately, it is designed to fit the second controller slot.Swapping the stub for a controller is only an issue then for two player games.
The remote control has some other disappointments. The DVD Player 2.1 software, essentially a firmware update, installs on a memory card and consumes a lot of real estate in the process. It only works with memory slot 1 and the entire copy takes 2.2MB, a quarter of the card's capacity. In an era where the most basic computer devices are all 'flashable,' it's a mystery why Sony didn't keep a more careful eye on future revisions. After all, I have flashed my computer motherboard, DVD player, and home network equipment with firmware updates. All of these devices carried some fashion EPROM (electronically programmable memory). And they all sold for less than a Sony Playstation, so it's hard to blame this short sitedness on cost. It's a mystery why Sony didn't forsee a similar eprom need in their console (read poor planning).Instead of flashing an internal chip then, Sony forces us to copy a new copy to a memory card, making the existing ROM so much silicon gathering dust. The DVD Player 2.1 software can be manipulated just like any other saved game. You can delete and copy it back at will. The remote will work without it too, although without the software to support it most buttons won't work as advertised.
Luckily, the improvements are significant and probably offset the disappointments enough to make this a good purchase. The new remote control and player software are feature rich adding many needed improvements to the DVD playback on the PS2.The most anticipated difference for me was the multi-speed scan. With the new player, it is now possible to scan through a DVD at 2x 4x and 8x speeds. The next best feature is an actual time clock, showing chapter progress time, remaining time, feature progress time and remaining time. The original player only showed chapter stops.Sonylayed out the DVD remote buttons in a logical and clear fashion. It includes every button you could want in a decent arrangement.Even chapter selection is there. The remote is a hybrid, including all of the shock controller buttons with the exception of only the analog sticks. It's nice - it rivals any other DVD remote.I read one review that said you could control power with this remote. This is not true. There is no labeled on/off button nor does the manual mention it. Other esoteric features are repeat (is this for a video store?) and shuffle (?), which are questionable even for concert DVDs.Maybe someone out there can find purpose to them.
I've never had any trouble with DVD playback having successfully watched dozens of titles on the PS2 now.Other people have complained about incompatible DVDs in the past. The new player software may address these issues.Sony claims this unit is compatible with any disk stamped with the DVD logo.I'm guessing it's a region 1 player and not region free, although I can't verify this for sure.I'm sure a hack is on its way if not already available.
Overall, it's a good purchase. The $20 ranks it among the cheapest accessories. It does it's job very well and transforms the console into a decent DVD player. But the real complaint, the one that ranks it at four stars, is that Sony didn't get it right the first time.Perhaps they underestimated the demand for DVD playback.I'm convinced it won't be long before some electronics genius burns the player to a ROM and sells it as a 'mod chip.'Until then, Sony is the only act in town that can provide these improvements.Actually, there's probably a way to distribute the new player via a Game Shark.Legality is at stake of course.
Bottom line: if a remote is a must have, this is the only one to consider.

Creative Labs EF0210 Fatal1ty USB Gaming Headset with Sound Blaster X-Fi Technology (Black) Review

Creative Labs EF0210 Fatal1ty USB Gaming Headset with Sound Blaster X-Fi Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying I am a hardcore mmo player. Anyone else who plays mmo's know that large guilds communicate through voice chat programs like Ventrillo (and similar). I myself use mostly ventrillo these days anymore. The testing that I did with this device was largely with guild mates of mine telling me how it sounds and how it performed from their end hearing me.

Right after I installed the software I tested these out on ventrillo. With literally zero tweaking time.. they sounded perfect. My voice was very loud and extremely clear. The music sounded great in the headphones. What more could I ask for.. they were trouble free! The best part was the microphone didn't need to be shoved against my lips for people to hear me speak. I have bought wired usb headsets in the past that required the mic to be so close it was annoying to use. This you can keep the mic 2-3 inches away from your mouth and it still sounds loud and clear (great little mic on this headset)

My only annoyance with these headphones is the tight headband. I have been told before I have a big head, but I thought they were being sarcastic! I am joking of course but they do fit snug and almost hurt a bit after a little while of use (*laughing* and I am pretty sure I have a normal size head!). Perhaps over time these headphones will loosen up and get more comfortable. I did of course try to outwardly flex the headband to loosen it but its all plastic so it didn't really work like it would have if it was metal. I still gave this product a 5 star rating, but I would knock off a 1/2 star for this tightness if I could.

The little microphone plugs in and out of the headphones in case you want to use these as pure headphones. I also assume if the mic boom ever fails over time you could more easily replace it being that its designed like this (I have had wires fail inside of headphone mic booms from years of over bending, so this is handy to be able to replace it so easily).

Lastly, these are "on ear" headphones .. not "around ear" headphones. So you will feel them sitting on top of your ear not go wide around the outside of your ears. The internet is hard to judge the sizes of products for things like this so I just wanted to let people know what to expect. The felt pad on headphones ear muffs are very soft and well cushioned so this shouldn't be a problem of comfort with most users.

Overall I am very pleased with this product. When I want to use a great working/great sounding plug and play headset I am now grabbing this for some long gaming sessions.

I love this controller. The buttons are all easy to reach. It only takes a split second to switch from the d-pad to the joystick. The triggers are at just the right spot, easy to use but hard to accidently hit.The startbutton is just a little hard to reach, but when you push the start buttonyou usually intend to sit the controller down anyways. The problem is thecord comes out of the bottom, not the top. This feels very akward to me. I am aware that there is the little notch to put the cord in, but why putit there when it would have been just as easy to put the cord where thenotch is.But, the 2 easy to use slots for a memory card and a jump packat the same time is great. This controller is light, durable, and easy touse. As for extra controllers, you only need to buy one, if any.I haveyet to find a game that is compatible for more that 2 players.Butoverall, the controller has to be the best yet.
