(More customer reviews)Although the wheel has quirks with both the PS2 & PS3, the wheel is still definitely worth its price! With a full day of trials & errors, I was surprised that the force feedback was equally inconsistent with the PS2 and PS3. Sometimes I started the game and the wheel worked fine with force feedback; sometimes the wheel worked but the force feedback didn't; sometimes the wheel only worked for multiplayer mode but with no force feedback; and sometimes the game didn't work at all - all this for the SAME game. As you can see, quite frustrating, but when it did work, it's was SOOO awesome that I decided to experiment all day with it. I did more testing with the PS3, so I'll focus on that. For the PS2, some games do state that you must plug the USB into the top port (for older systems - for newer PS2 systems, I don't know which is the preferred port). Similarly, the PS3 has a preferred port.

THE BEST CONFIGURATION FOR THE PS3 IS: 1. plug the USB into port #3 (port #1 also works, but I had more success with #3), 2. turn on the system manually - DO NOT use the PS3 controller to turn it on! This allows for the wheel to be assigned to controller #1 - MOST driving games can not be played in single-player mode when the wheel is assigned to controller #2. Unfortunately, the wheel does not have a PS button to re-assign the wheelor quit the game. If your system was on and a controller was previously assigned to #1, then the wheel usage will be inconsistent. Therefore, it's best to plug in the USB in port #3 and turn on the system manually. This way, I was able to reliably play games with the wheel with force feedback.

GAME COMPATIBILITY: Currently, I only have 8 driving games. The most reliably were Burnout 3: Takedown and Midnight Club 2 (I would assume later games in the series would also work, but not sure about earlier games). Gran Turismo 4 and Need for Speed 2 also worked fine, but it sometimes took several attempts to start the game. Like plugging new USB devices into a computer, sometimes the drivers load correctly, sometimes they don't, so try several times. These 4 games all worked with the wheel with force feedback.
MotoGP3 and Tourist Trophy worked with the wheel, but without force feedback AND it required Pelican's PS2 USB adapter ($15) to be plugged in also. Pelican's PS2 USB adapter is worth it though 'cause it was the only way I could adjust the sensitivity of the wheel. Once the sensitivity is adjusted, it should remain the same as long as the system is on (you can change games and have the same sensitivity). However, I am not sure if the wheel returns to default sensitivity once you turn off the system.
Dirt for PS3 worked wonderfully - great force feedback and a joy to drive! However, World Rally Championship was the MOST inconsistent (even though Logitech stated that it's compatible). Sometimes it worked with the wheel, and sometimes it didn't (actually, when I got this game to work, Gran Turismo didn't work).
You can see the full list of supported games (up to end of 2005, they haven't updated the list) on Logitech's website. The manual really sucks.

As for people deciding between this wheel (EX) and the Driving Force Pro, the main difference is that the Pro has 900 degrees turn for SOME supported games (see Logitech's site). While 200 degrees turn for the EX model is arcade-like driving, 900 degrees turn is kinda overkill. Some purists say that 900 is like simulating a race car, but you can only comfortably turn the wheel 270 degrees in each direction (try it for yourself and you'll see) - therefore, 540 degrees would have been more ideal. I think this is a practical observation since several reviewers indicated that it was hard to adapt to the Pro wheel. Besides, the blue rubber of the EX model looks cool and the stick shifter of the Pro model looks bulky (EX's paddle shifter works fine). The final difference between the 2 models (besides price), is the vibration/ resistance motor. The EX model weighs in at 9 lbs, while the Pro weighs in at 15 lbs - that 67% heavier because of it's stronger motor. You may get better vibrations with the Pro model, but many reviewers complained that it was noisy. I did not find that problem with the EX wheel.

Jet Moto Review

(More customer reviews)Just as a little history lesson JetMoto is made by the same people who made the first two Twisted Metal games and Twisted Metal Black.If that is not reason enough to get this game I will give you some more.For anti-gravity racing fans out there buying JetMoto is an easy decision to make, but for all you other gamers JetMoto is a very challenging game to play, it will definitely test you to your limits.Like Wipout, JetMoto is a futuristic racing game but with a twist.The twist is, what makes it different from Wipeout, it is a mix between anti-gravity racing and MotoCross.The graphics, soundtrack, animations, and soundeffects pull you into the game and never let go.

The graphics in this game are very good for the PS1.The texture maps, water splashes, sand effects, and the waves add to the experience.If you have a PS2 you can smooth the graphics out and make them look even better.

Soundtrack: Now this soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard, right up there with Wipeout's.The music is exciting and beautifully reflects the environments of each course.

Animations: As you race through each track taking tight turns, you can feel the weight of the craft as your rider pulls on it to just make that turn.And when you get some big air it feels like the rider is actually flying through the air.

Soundeffects: The soundeffects are equally superb.The sound of the jetmoto makes you believe that your really racing on a anti-gravity bike.The water slashes, solid landing sound, turbo boosts are all done extremly well.

Now for the one thing I did not mention above, the controls.If you have played Wipout then you are ready to play JetMoto.If you have never played Wipeout JetMoto's controls are overall good, become difficult in the tight courses.

I'll give you some advise, MASTER THE GRAPPLING HOOK!Some of the tracks are frustratingly hard and if it becomes a little too much to bare go to this web site for cheat codes.(www.ign.com) Despite its few short comings JetMoto is one of the best anti-gravity racing games I have ever played and definetely worth the your money.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 Review

(More customer reviews)Before I start my review, I want to make one thing very clear. Anytime a racing game like TXR3 is compared to benchmarks like the Gran Turismo or Project Gotham series, it will almost always finish behind. Is that always fair? I think not! Any street-racing game should stand on its own merits and not the merits of others. A red apple should be based on its qualities as a red apple and not a green one, so TXR3 should also be based on what it is instead of what it isn't. With that, let's get started!
TXR3 is the latest in the TXR series that started with the original TXR game followed by TXR2 and TXR Zero. All are fun and addicting games to play with more than their share of annoying little quibbles but the charm lies in its unique game play and the ability to race a seemingly endless number of rivals. Those particular qualities remain intact with some new twist that surely makes TXR3 the best in the series so far.
One of the first things you'll notice is that all the vehicles no longer use thinly disguised manufacturer names. Genki, the producers of the game, managed to obtain licensing from the car companies to use actual model names. A very obvious omission from the ranks is Honda/Acura. From what I understand, either Honda did not allow Genki to use their designs and names or they couldn't get proper licensing in time so if you are a Honda/Acura fan, you're out of luck but TXR3 does have some new kids on the block like Gemballa, DeTomaso, Volkswagen, and Lotus to name a few as well as the usual cast of Asian regulars. And don't forget to check out the all-new Ford GT! Another major change is now you have 3 areas to race instead of one. Along with the highways of Tokyo, there is Osaka and Nagoya to race. Combine those area's 200+ miles of road with 600 rivals to compete against, you'll have a game that will keep you busy for awhile.
The premise of the game hasn't changed much since the beginning -find a rival, flash your lights, race, and win (or lose) depending on whose meter runs out first. Every rival is part of a gang that must be beaten before you can race the leader of the gang. This, in itself, doesn't sound particularly thrilling but there is an undeniable rush when beating your rivals and accumulating funds to buy better cars and modifications to try to beat even faster rivals. And it doesn't stop there! You can also do engine swaps from hi-revving inline-4's to brawny V-8's that go beyond the normal engine upgrades that can really give your ride some very serious power! If that isn't enough, you'll also have the chance to race two bosses at the same time in some situations! Double the pleasure when you win but double the defeat if you don't. Also new for this series is the weather-effects. You'll have many opportunities to race in the rain and snow, although the snow doesn't accumulate but those roads sure get icy! It adds a great dimension to the game that makes you prepare for every race you encounter.
Sound? Definitely better. All the variety of engines now make the appropriate noises from the buzzy 4's to the burbling V-8's and even the 'squish' of the tires on the rain-soaked roads are worth noting. I can't say much for the music, though. If you like the typical power-grunge rock, then this is right up your alley. Personally, I never listen to the music when I'm playing. With the new and proper engine sounds combined with gear-revving, tires squealing, and turbo waste gate whoosh-ing, that's the best music you can have! The music is just a distraction from that.
The graphics are certainly better and a little cleaner than the previous series and the graphics for the weather-effects are superb. The only drawback is that there seems to be an awful lot of pop-ups, especially on the weather-effects. It's not too noticeable when you are driving fast but it's easy to see the buildings and overpasses fill in as you move forward, even when viewing this from the rear-view mirror. This doesn't effect the game play but on some sections of the roads when traveling super fast on rainy days, the pop-ups aren't visible until it's too late and suddenly you find yourself having to make a micro- second decision on what path to take and by then you've crashed big time. Come to think of it, this would probably happen in real life.

* Better road feel, less 'floatiness'.
* Realistic weather-effects.
* Good graphics.
Misses
* Lots of pop-ups on rain/snow days.
* Some bosses start way in front of you before you race.
* WAY too many yellow "Official" vans on the road.
* Absence of Honda/Acura vehicles (which may not necessarily be a bad thing!) :-)
All in all, a first rate game with a tremendous replay value loaded with new options that make it even more fun to play. And that's why I give it 5 stars because it's just good old, bumper-to-bumper, winner-takes-all, fun! Bottom line, if you liked the previous series, go out and lay down your $20.00 for your own copy. It's that simple! If you didn't like it before, rent it and play it. You might be surprised!

(More customer reviews)Excellent game, from the progression through levels to the track editor, the game is near perfect.My only complaint is the third type of vehicle is very undesirable, I've gone on line to race other people's tracks and no one is even using the third type.But the on line driving experience is even better with official rankings and the custom paint shop allows you to easily and endlessly customize your vehicle (Leopard skin my first choice).The speed and control are beyond impressive.Track Mania Sunrise is the perfect racing game with the ability to create the perfect track.The stunts and aerial effects are amazing with awesome camera effects during the jumps.Maybe next year they'll allow contact and collisions with on line racing.I'm not easily impressed and I own a dozen driving games including GT3, WRC, Test Drive, Need for Speed, and Midnight Club.Track Mania tops them all.

Colin McRae Rally 2.0 Review

(More customer reviews)I am very impressed with Colin McRae Rally.It provides an all around great gaming experience.
In the game itself, the tracks are widely varied in both their look and feel.If you have a force feedback controller you'll really appreciate the different surfaces.The cars have noticeable handling differences and setting them up for a particular surface/weather combination requires some work.The icing on the cake are the verbal calls from your navigator letting you know about the track up ahead.
As other reviews have mentioned, the damange model is very cool.You can hear and see the damaged parts of your car.Windows break, hoods crumple and bumpers drag on the ground.I've also noticed that if your electric system is damanged you'll occassionally find yourself driving along with a turn signal running.You might also see your headlights fail -- not fun on a night course.
That said, I was still looking for more out of the damange model.I regularly slam the passenger side of the car into a tree.. I was expecting my navigator to be "damanged" after some of those hits.:)Also, I was never able to get a car to completely break down.I don't know if there is a way to DNF in this game.
The 3 skill levels seem non-linear in difficulty.On the lowest level it is pretty easy to win the championship, but as soon as you jump to "intermediate" your competition gets substantially better and it is difficult to pull off top finishes.
One last gripe about the gameplay... when flip the car or go off the road you are immediately returned the road and continue the race.Even if you can't DNF, there should be some sort of large time penalty.
All in all a great game.The gameplay is a lot of fun and it will give your force feedback wheel quite a workout.I've even found the car control I learned in this game helped in other racing sims.

HKS Racing Controller Review

(More customer reviews)I just received the controller and so far it's amazing. Keep in mind that these are simple first impressions, but thus far, color me impressed. Right off the bat the controller itself feels solid. Build quality is easily a 7 or 8 out of 10. The auto-entering wheel is going to be great for oval races in GT5 and the new NASCAR game. For once I can hold a fairly steady racing line, which has definitely improved my laptimes a bit. So far I've only tested the controller with Burnout Paradise and F1 2010. Burnout I noticed the tighter analog stick helped out while on F1 2010 the steering wheel was smoother. The pressurized gas and brake pedals are phenominal, specially on F1. The great thing about this controller is the ability to change setups on-the-fly. There is a little switch on the back that is labeled "NFS/GT" which swaps the Square/X with L2/R2.

For fast maneuvers like in Burnout, the steering wheel doesn't respond *quite* as fast as I would like, but it still works very well. I think the best part about this controller is how versatile it is. With F1 2010 the steering wheel really helped in the middle of turns where I usually have to put a bit more wheel into it and often spin or get really loose requiring me to get off the throttle. Speaking of which, the throttle on the controller compared to R2 on the official PS3 controller is like night and day. Everyone knows how loose the analog sticks and triggers feel on the official PS3 controller. That is all tightened up quite nicely with the HKS controller. Much more control.

With Gran Turismo 5 now out, I have been putting this controller through it's paces and am happy to report it is holding up quite nicely. The steering wheel on the controller really shines through on the license tests where the difference between Gold and Silver can .001 of a second. With the steering wheel I can hold a steady line through the turns which allows me to keep as much speed as possible. What I'm finding I like most about this controller though is how I can use the analog stick for the hard turns but I can immediately switch to the steering wheel if I come up on a turn that requires just a little more finesse.

My only complaints would be the digital led readout...it's not so much a complaint, but rather that I find it useless as I'm paying attention to the screen, not the controller. This leads me to my second complaint; the controller is wired. While InterWorks has included more than enough length in the USB cord (which is gold-plated, MAJOR props for that, excellent connections!), I'm curious to see if they could have possible removed the led and put in a bluetooth chip and small battery...perhaps gen 2?

Overall, I'm really digging this new controller. There are a few racing games coming out in the future that I look forward to more now that I have this controller. NASCAR 2011 for instance should really benefit from this controller. For anyone who can't afford a racing wheel/seat, or who just don't have enough room for a racing wheel/seat, this is a near-perfect substitution. Definitely recommended!

(More customer reviews)I know that I have been guilty, on occasion, of poor driving etiquette,haven't we all?CARMAGEDDON 2 is a primer in the fine art of road rage.Think of it as cathartic, do what you will within this fine, gory game. Your desires to do the same on the roadways of reality MUST, of neccessity,remain unfulfilled.
Similar to the original CARMAGEDDON except withbetter graphics, the victims are polygonal models instead of sprites,there's tons more carnage to be wrested from the CARMAGEDDON universe thistime around.
Most of the cast of regular drivers are back, with a fewnew crazies to round out the crew.Vehicle upgrades are made whilst on thefly, instead of thru a separate menu as in the original.The cars Eagle& Hawk have returned along with a bevy of new killers.Look for theVolvo mining loader, a humongous yellow truck used to haul boulders. There's even a WWII Stuka dive bomber piloted/driven by looney Heinz Faustfrom the first game.
Many scenarios are included:A Disney-esquefunfair, replete with clowns, circus strongmen and elephants.A modernairport;bonus points if you can manage to wreck the jumbo jet...the trickseems to be jumping your vehicle upon the wing during takeoff.
One minorbeef, there's no onscreen camera shot of the driver's glee as in the firstgame.I really missed seeing Die Anna squeal with joy each time shesquashed a victim.Her sick peals of rapture in the first CARMAGEDDON arevery remniscent of Xenia Onatopp from the Bond film, Goldeneye. This aside,CARMAGEDDON 2 is a worthy sequel and a hell of a lot of fun for my [$]. I can't wait for the third installment!

Extreme G3 Racing Review

(More customer reviews)Extreme G-3 is perhaps the biggest surprise of the year, at least for me. After playing the first and second ones (both were only mediocre), I wasn't expecting anything spectacular from this installment on the PS2. But man, when I booted it up I was instantly hooked. It sports some truly amazing graphics, and the overall speed keeps you coming back for more. The framerate is excellent, even in two player mode, and there's plenty to unlock and discover. One of the best games of the year in my book, go buy it.

F-Zero : Maximum Velocity Review

(More customer reviews)The original F-Zero was released way back in 1991 as a SNES Launch title. It featured "Mode 7" which enabled games to pull of a 3D effect.
The game was followed up with a special "Sattelaview" version entitled "F-Zero 2". However, it only included one more class "Ace" and the tracks were not as good as any in the first version.
The latest F-Zero game was released on the Nintendo 64 a couple of years ago and followed the same princible - Fast cars going along space themed tracks. However this version included twists and hills in the tracks, as well as 30 cars on the track and many tracks.
Now Nintendo have released a portable version of F-Zero and it follows the SNES roots more than the Nintendo 64 game.
F-Zero Advance (which will be titles F-Zero : Maximum Velocity for the USA launch) is basically an upgraded version of the SNES title. The game however, features all new tracks, cars, classes and music. It only shares the same graphic style as the SNES version - which I'm sure many people are pleased with. This game is not just a "rehash" and overal it is very playable.
There are three initial Classes - Pawn, Knight & Bishop - with an additional Queen class which is uncovered later in the game. The game also has difficulty modes - Begginer, Standard and Expert - again a further difficulty "Master" can be unlocked later in the game.
The game starts of with four cars and you can uncover a further four by completly certain tasks in the game.
The game uses the GBA techology to full effect - the graphics are very sharp and smooth and once you have got used to the controls you will just be speeding though each track with ease.
The sound is also pretty good - all the music is brand new. However, I would have liked some of the classic SNES F-Zero music to be present, but really it doesnt matter much.
The control does take a little while to get used to. I did have problems with the L & R buttons at first, but after 20 or so minutes I had gotten used to it. Now I don't have any problems at all.
The only major dissapointment is the Multiplayer mode. You can play upto four players using one cartridge. However, you can only play one track (Silence) which is very simple and short. You can also only chose one model of car to play with.
If you have 4 copies of the game though you don't need to worry. You may play any track and as any car as you want!
Overal, I reccomend this to everyone as a must buy launch game. It really is great fun - and as the tracks are all brand new, you won't have already played this game in another form already.

(More customer reviews)Yeah I dig this game, I'm glad my PC has more better then then the best of 3 times the Recommended requirements(hehehe, for fun).But seriously, I'm running a Pentium 4 and a 9700 Pro, and it runs real real smooth, I ran it on my P3 as well, and it ran great at 800 x 600.Don't let retarded people whom don't have video cards scare you away, THIS IS A GREAT GAME!But you will need a Video card, Processor means squat if you can't render it with your video card.Stick with the Recs, and you'll be ok, you may need to download some new video drivers if your card should handle it but doesn't.Also you may want to clear your Task Manager a lil' as well, I love when some people try to play games with half of their resources shoved up their butts.Don't be a stooge, just know what your doing.Most PCs made within 18 months should handle this game fine, so don't worry.

(More customer reviews)Yep, I can remember back in the day when the Playstation just came out and this was the first game i got back when the PS1 games came in those bulky cardboard cases instead of the smaller jewel cases. Well, this game is still a blast to play after all these years and is easily one of my favorite games of all time. This one had all the perfect levels and the perfect balance of characters set in a darker tone than the other games had besides TM:Black of course. I liked how each level had some destructible environments as well as the inside cockpit view in the cars. The stories for each of the characters were all interesting and made you want to play through with each character. Overall, this is a great game that will have you playing for quite a while and while your at it, check out TM2 which is an amazing game as well. You should especially check this one out if your a newer fan to the series and want to see the games roots.

I was afraid at first that it might be more fanciful than I wanted, that maybe the horses were not even going to be horses at all, robots perhaps. But thankfully, theyare truly horses. This is a most realistic game, with conditions such assloppy tracks, getting bumped and dealing with getting boxed in.Most funof all is winning the big races, because by the time you accomplish such athing, you have truly put in your time with eating a lot of dust. Yougradually build up a stable of better and better champs, and are invited torace in previously unknown races. Special trophies are awarded to the besthorses, and when they retire, they are placed in a"hall-of-fame", where their stats are memorialized.A knowledgeof horse-racing is almost a must before playing this game, such as knowingthe difference between a dirt and turf track, a sprinter and a distancehorse, and understanding how horses peak differently. Handicapping alsocomes into play. All in all, this is a most rich, educational game. Perhapsmost of all, I have learned how much jockeying can make or break a race, nomatter how good the horse.

(More customer reviews)This is a very cool racing game.Instead of the usual pick a car, track, and race other cars, you actually cruise the streets for opponents, challenge them, and if you win use the money to tune your street machine even more.
There are alot of very innovative things in this game.You cruise the streets in your car, and flash your headlights at other tuned up cars and challenge them to a race.This makes the game very realistic.As you cruise looking for opponents there are civilian vehicles on the road to avoid.The civilian cars are realitivly smart too, if you stop in a lane and put on your hazard lights, they'll change lanes to avoid you, very realistic.You can upgrade your car many ways from adding ground effects to stickers to wheels and horsepower upgrades.The cars are not named (like honda civic, mitsubishi eclipse etc.) they have numbers instead, but are still recognizable to their real life counterparts.There are a TON of rival gangs to race, and a variety of other modes like time attack, and free run.
Although the game is a great new take on racing, the graphics are nothing special.When compared to gran turismo 3's city night scenes, they look very poor.But the graphics are still above psx level, and the cars are very good looking.
This is a great racing game, but if i had to pick one, i would go with gt3.Still it's worth getting tokyo extreme racer zero if you are at all interested in import racing.

(More customer reviews)I had a chance to see and play the game [in] August (2001) and was very impressed with the quality of screens and action. Those who may own the PC version will see many advances in the game on PS2 and will want to have the PS2 version. Drop the [money] on a PS2 system and spend all your waking hours racing.
They improved on making the tracks more realistic (including billboards, landmarks etc.) and the handling of the cars to change as the dirt tracks change, making you the driver constantly searching for the fastest line around the race track. Sound was excellent, graphics were clean and not jerky. I was impressed with the addition of the tear-off option just like if you were actually racing. Mud clouds the vision as you follow other racers and by hitting the tear-off button you have a clear screen again.
I'm sure the delays in the release have to due with the many changes in sponsorship and additional features one can add with the PS2 system.
I don't think you will find a better racing game for the price. If you're a fan of sprint cars or dirt racing you will have a great time with this game.
