Samurai Warriors 2 Review

Samurai Warriors 2

These types of beat-em up games get alot of flack and criticism because they lack depth and innovation, but sometimes the same old goodness is what's needed.I'm a huge fan of dynasty warriors and I think this game is just another solid addition to that type of play. There's some new variations, but overall its same thing, which isn't always a bad thing. People seem to think that games should just get more and more complicated, thus making them better, but that's not always the case. There's got to be a market for people who just want to mindlessly beat dudes up and not think about much else.

This game is great and I'm totally glad they keep making them.Despite the negative critiques from major internet game sites, there is alot to discover and enjoy in a game like this. You definitely get what you pay for and that doesn't happen much.enjoy.

Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny Review

Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny

Great game for people who would like to see Onimusha1 and Final Fantasy combined.
Improvements were definately intended on character interaction. The games story line is greatly based on how you trade special items with the other four characters in the game.I've finished the game twice but I've yet to unlock all of the side stories with the other characters.Personally I think this detracts from the game but my wife, who loves the long Final Fantasy stories, loved trying to figure out how to open all the side stories. Some of the side stories do add a lot to the game, I just didn't like spending so much time trying to unlock them all.(I usually hand the controller to my wife whenever the game switches from action to game plot;-)
If you don't mind talking to all the characters in the game two or three times, then you'll probably love this game. The action and graphics are much better than the first Onimusha. There's also a couple new weapons that add significantly.(The War Hammer kicks @$$)Although the game is still too short, if you liked Onimusha 1 like I did then you'll probably love this game.
Disclaimer:I bought and played the Japanese version of Onimusha2 which may be different than the American release.

Samurai Warriors 2: Empires Review

Samurai Warriors 2: Empires
Average Reviews:

KOEI is back with yet another Dynasty/Samurai Warrior hackenslash game. This genre is now infamous for its simplistic run around aimlessly killing dumb soldiers until you reach a slightly more difficult to defeat general. The franchise hasn't changed much over the past few years. This is both good and bad. From year to year we are subjected to sequels which are more along the lines of touch up packages.A few added characters, a few added features, and just barely updated graphics. However, recently with there new "Empires" series they seem to be hoping to add an element of strategy to a franchise that as of late has been becoming quite stale.

The game has 2 modes of play. The usual "free" mode which is essentially the pickup and play mode where you select a section of the map then pick your generals and lieutenants (up to 3 of each) then go to battle. Then there's "empire" mode where you become a Japanese feudal lord. You are assigned a fief and from here it is your job to expand your territory. The fun part is that how you do it is up to you.You can use force, diplomacy or trickery as you build your army recruiting new generals, lieutenants, and boosting your number of troops.

During battle you can order your soldiers to protect a base, attack individual bases or generals, and defend another general or even yourself. The best part about this game is that your generals now level up with you and are no longer the sissy's whining for help that they were in the other games. On one occasion my round ended while I was off fighting a rival general my troops had already captured the main camp.Keep in mind that your opponents are no longer slouches either. You'll have to work a little to defeat them as the strength of the characters and AI has been revamped slightly.Formations are used in a rock paper scissors fashion. When they are employed they give you a stat boost however the army using the stronger formation is the only one to receive it.

The game does a good job making you feel like you are in charge of a powerful army. You can trade with China or Western nations; tax the people, train your generals and lieutenants, there are so many options as far as what you can do it would take forever to name them all.
So in summing up this game, SW2 Empires is still an upgrade package.Don't be fooled. It does however improve vastly with a strategy element and AI.So here's a comparison list so that you can make the decision

PROS:
-essentially still running off of the Dynasty warriors engine
-create a character feature
-added strategy element
-slightly tougher AI, your army now fights for themselves
CONS:
-essentially still running off of the Dynasty warriors engine
-not much variety in the battlefield maps
-slightly tougher AI, you may have a little difficulty fightingyour opponents in the beginning

Samurai Shodown V Review

Samurai Shodown V

Anyone who has played Samusrai Showdown III will know what my review title means. You can't have a real Samurai Showdown video game without the French Femme Fatale.
Anyway, some people may be a little angry that the controls in this game no not match that of the first game. Personally, I like the new set-up. Three slashes and one kick may not make sense, but it's effective. What I don't like is that when you change the button settings in the game, the moves list in the pause-screen menu becomes less helpful: for example, when I changed fierce slahs from trigger L to button A, the list still told me that to execute Charlotte's projectile attack (it had a name, but I can't remember) I still had to end the button combination with either X, Y, or L. This isn't very bothersome if you know all the moves by heart ... I can almost see you Samurai Showdown enthusiasts shaking your heads! Not everyone has played thist series inside out!!
Anyway, the online play would be much better if there were others who played the game. Unfortunately, you'll usually find yourself waiting a long time for an opponent if you create a match or you'll just get the game's error message if you go into quickmatch or optimatch. This is a problem: there are a lot of Samurai Showdown fans and there are a lot of XBox owners, but there are apparently not a lot of Samurai Showdown fans who own XBoxes and have XBox Live. If you want to know if this game is compatible with 360, you'll have to look at another review or ask Microsoft because I don't know. I'm sorry if this review is not helpful. Please vote accordingly so I'll know for sure. If this review is unhelpful, I need not take up valuable space on this website and will delete this review.

Good game, great graphics for ps2. Good Storyline for each character but it gets old over time. The really cool characters that you want to play with doesnt have a storyline. You just can play them in merancary mode or free mode. Mercanary mod(or however you spell it) is good but the people ou want to hire as your sidekicks come up first and you cant hire them because you dont have any rewards coins or whatnot. But the mode is good played it all the way through with two players. One till you get pick for an army and the other as a loaner who gets hired. both good. There is gone glitch that made me mad. The glitch is sometimes you play it and you kill the leader and you stay there and cant kill anything else or go to another site without losing what you did. But overlal Great game

Kengo: Master of Bushido Review

Kengo: Master of Bushido
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Kengo, Master of Bushido. The most masterful swordfighting game of all time,Crave has offered up a prime port of the Japanese original.
One player campaign mode allows you to unlock 13 characters, two player mode allows you to whomp on your friends.
There are twelve dojo's, and each has an ancestral sword that you can win, bringing shame and dishonor to their families - that's right, scream, but I won your sword fair and square!
Sixteen different weapons are possible in this game, including, yes, the two-by-four.Well it just looks like a board.Supposedly it's a scepter...Hm.
A fully customizable series of attacks, along with blocking and parrying lend a depth of feel to the duels. You're not just button mashing here, this is a calculated effort to glean your opponents weaknesses, wear them down, and even dance in and out, slashing arteries - Then keep your distance as they bleed to death.
Eventually you earn your own dojo, and defend it against the upstart young would-be samuri, the high priest, and even your own ghost in your pursuit of enlightenment.Your master's dying words will lead you on the correct path.
Kengo is without a doubt the most well conceived and executed game for the PS2, the combat, characters, and environments lend a sharp realism to this recreation of fuedal Japan.
This game is a must have.

Genji Review

Genji
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have to admit, I was looking forward to this game over a year ago when the first screen shots and trailers came out. And after buying it and playing it through, this Genji didn't disappoint in the slightest.
First of all, the game looks and sounds fantastic. One of the best games graphically for the PS2. Despite tepid reviews, the action comes pretty fast and furious, despite the ability to pull a Kamui, or slow down time to quickly dispatch your opponent. This is a very cool effect and it doesn't get old. It also helps to practice it as much as possible, because once difficult mode is unlocked, its the only way to survive in absence of levelling up and finding health items.
Speaking of difficult mode, the game has tons of replay value, contrary to what has been mentioned. The RPG elements allow you to search for hard to find weapons and armor in continuous mode, and difficult mode is a real challenge. Mastery of Kamui and Mind's Eye techiniques are a must if you want to survive and finish the game in this mode.
I have to say that my favorite thing about this game is its almost straight action, with some RPG elements to give replay value. There isn't alot of backtracking to add length to the game, not alot of platforming, or puzzles to drive you nuts. So if your into action, or just love Samurai, give Genji a try. You won't regret it.

Samurai Shodown Anthology Review

Samurai Shodown Anthology
Average Reviews:

This compilation of the classic Samurai Shodown series delivers, it was definitely worth the wait. The game starts off with a decent intro showcasing clips of all games included, I-VI. The main menu has the option for arcade mode and training mode for I-V and there is a separate icon for VI...and you will see why as soon as you play it. You will want to use either a classic controller or an arcade stick to enjoy this, the controls are fully customizable for every game. The original samurai shodown is a true classic, the gameplay still holds up today and the graphics are still pleasing. Samurai Shodown II adds a few more characters and takes away others, the ability to break your opponent's weapon is a nice addition...and the animal suits. Shodown III-V are all great, the graphics improve as the series goes on and new characters are introduced throughout. All of the games look excellent and display in 480p, the traditional Japanese music adds to the mystical samurai appeal of the games. Fans of the series and newcomer's alike will no doubt enjoy playing I-V...but VI is on a completely different level in my opinion. VI is absolutely loaded with characters, everyone from the series is represented. The sprites are a higher resolution and the 3D backgrounds are gorgeous. There are many different customizable fighting styles, this is one of the deepest fighting games I have ever come across. It's a simple as you want it to be or as complicated as you could handle with varying levels in between, replay value out the whazoo. Practice mode, a complicated goal oriented survival mode, color and spirit edit modes and a gallery mode full of unlockable content. All in all I don't think I could ask for a better compilation than this, it's worth it for VI alone and the rest of the games are excellent. You can adjust the difficulty as well, these games are fairly difficult so you might need to ease into it if you aren't familiar with the series. Any hardcore 2D fighting fan will love this collection...and no, the games are not censored. These collections tend to have a limited release so grab a copy while you can, you won't regret it.

I've been waiting for this game for a while and this game was near impossible to find, but I finally found a copy and got to play for the first time last night. It follows the along the same model of the original The Way of the Samurai. There are tons of swords and fighting styles, that will keep you enthralled for hours upon hours, and once you find that certain sword/style that fits you, you can learn new techniques and level the sword so you can become the ultimate assassin, protector, or just plain ole bad a**. This game is full of action around every turn, and the best concept is that you can choose which path you want to take, if you want to become a rich samurai you can join the fujimori clan, or you can be a sole wanderer a ronin,or you can protect the citizens of a poor city who are being heavily taxed, or you can plot against the fujimori clan and join the ouika clan who are a bunch of thieves and robbers, and the beauty of it is it's all up to you which path you choose. The fighting in this game is superb, depending on which sword you use that is the fighting style used, or you can fight bare handed which is pretty fun as well.I thoroughly enjoyed and am still enjoying this game, if this game sounds like something you might like, or if your like me, I really enjoy old samurai movies especially Akira Kurosawa films, you'll love this game. One of my favorite things about this game is one of the faces you can choose for your samurai looks almost exactly like Toshiro Mifune. In all I give this game a 5 out of 5.Maybe more, this is possibly one of my favorite games of the year.

A very interesting take on the end of the Samurai era in Japan.I just purchased this title earlier today, but so far I am already enthralled with it.The first things I noticed about the game were: one, its very hard, and two, the story is amazingly open and varied. On the difficulty end of things, there are very few save points and you only get one life; if you die the game is basically over. The story plays out like and old samurai movie or Clint Eastwood western (think "Yojimbo" or "Fistful of Dollars"; you encounter warring factions in a small town and everyone seems to want to recruit you to help tip the balance of power in their favor. However, the game never pushes you towards a specific direction.Your character's choices remain refreshingly open ended as the plot develops. You can fight, switch sides, or just sit back and watch while the npc's fight it out.The game also has it's quircky Japanese moments, like the afro-haired samurai, and sometimes downright bizzare quips you can choose to taunt your oppents with during battle. The bigest weak point in the game is definately in the graphics department. The character faces are genuinly unique and fairly expressive, but the game itself is somewhat jaggy, and definately displays some texture seaming problems.Another possible quible could come from the intitial dificulty level, which is fairly high. However, starting from scratch often is not as bad in "Samurai" as in some other titles, because it alows the player a chance to view different possible story arcs. One final not on the music: it's fairly eclectic, I personally enjoy it, but its probably not for everyone. The rest of the in game sounds are fairly minimal, so if you want to listen to your stereo instead of the game you at least won't be missing anything important.
