Dragonball Z Trilogy Review

Dragonball Z Trilogy
Average Reviews:

Like the top says this bundle is great for people who have not played the tenkaichi games before (there way better than the "budokai" series)The pack consists of DBZ:Budokai Tenkaichi 1&2 and Super DBZ. I very much enjoyed Tenkaichi 1&2 (I also played #3 but find #2 to be the best) and I consider Super DBZ as a throw in (not my favorite fighter, although it was a arcade port.)

The thing I like about this the most is the price! For $30 you cant go wrong, new these games were $49.99 a piece that would be over $150 for these three games!!!

A Definite buy, you won't be sorry

P.S. I thought I should add that these games are not the 'greatest hits' but are black label!!!

Dragonball Z: The Legacy of Goku I & II Review

Dragonball Z: The Legacy of Goku I & II
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought each of these games separately when they were first released, and I liked them both fairly well. They both had their flaws, but then again what game doesn't? First I'll start with
Legacy Of Goku

DRAGONBALL Z: LEGACY OF GOKU

This is the first in a series of three games for the GBA, and follows the storyline, from the Saiyan Saga to the Freiza Saga. The only twist is that instead of following the whole story, the game goes by Goku's perspective, hence the name. At the time of its release I was very disappointed with this fact, because they had already finished the Cell Games Saga. Other flaws in the game were soon apparent (e.g. you can only level up to LV 25).

The graphics for this game (at the time) were the best they could be, but there are still a few problems with the looks of some attacks. First off all the energy attacks are yellow, when everyone, who knows anything about the show, knows that the Kamehameha is blue. Instead there's just a bold yellow line coming out of Goku's hands. It's not even shaped like anything either!! Then there's the weirdness of the Solar Flare. When you use this attack a series of big and small balls come out of Goku's hands accompanied by a zapping sound.

The controls are as simple as they could be. Press L to switch between energy attacks, R to fly (note: this game is the only game in which you can fly at any time), A to Punch, and B for an energy attack. Holding B will gather energy into your attack, making it stronger. When you have gathered enough energy simply release B to attack. (secondary note: just keep your energy ball, since it's the only one that you can use from long distance, and because the other attacks don't do that much anyway, as far as I can tell without an enemy health meter.)

Overall this game had the most flaws of all the three. At the time of release it was pretty cool, for die-hard fans of the anime, and manga series, but now it hardly stands the test of time. It had way too many side games, and even with them it was still too short. Again, and I can't stress this enough, FIX THE ENERGY ATTACKS!! For this individual game I would give it 3/5 stars.

DRAGONBALL Z: LEGACY OF GOKU II

This game was much better than the first. They fixed many of the first game's flaws, including the energy attacks problem, but with a new game comes a new set of flaws. First off the game is supposed to be the Legacy Of GOKU, but for this game you have a variety of characters including Piccolo, Trunks, Gohan, and Vegeta. More flaws later. The story now goes from just before the Trunks Saga to the end of the Cell Games Saga. I had kind of expected that since, they hadn't finished the Buu Sagas yet (They had hardly started). In this game you can also, for the first time turn Super Saiyan any time you want (or Super Namek), which in my book is a big plus.

The grapics in this second game, are much improved from the first. As I said they fixed the energy attacks problem, for all the characters. You also now have a boss health meter, but you still have to guess and check for regular enemies. You'll get used to doing this though, because there are a few doors hidden throughout the game, that can only be accessed by a certain character at a certain level. Because of this you can level up faster, and there are more levels to go to.

The controls of this game are almost identical to the first one, except that now R is your scouter, or map, which is usually useless. Each character plays exacly the same way, with the exception of their energy attacks. Of course each character has their own signiture energy attacks, plus one other attack for variety. Again you can turn Super Saiyan any time you want, so you now have a Super Saiyan meter at the side of your screen. You have to be careful when you're Super Saiyan though, because it drains your energy, so time is limited.

Overall the game was much better than the first (probably since it was the first time Funimation worked with Atari), since it was longer, and more characters adds variety. There are still a fair amount of challenging side quests, but now you can ignore most of them. For this game I would give it a 4/5, there are still flaws but they are also easily ignored.

I found this game a nice refreshing return to the card game/rpg mechanics that the were tried out back in the snes era with the Dragonball Z RPG.It was a pleasant surprise to pick up and find they'd built upon the concept to make a pretty solid card game/RPG experience that I'd probably play even without the dragonball motifs over everything.I've noticed this game is particularly good for trips and is fairly addictive, winning quite a bit of friends who wouldn't put it down once giving it a try.

I have seen the light dragonball z buu's Fury is the conclusion of Legacy of Goku 2. I saw pics it has supersaiyn 3 and fusion characters who's powers are almost unlimited. I've played every legacy of goku and so farthis is the most waited upon. I even emailed the people that made the game.(...) I just hope they have all the forms this time ssj,ssj2,ssj3 in order as you transform I thought it was suppose to to come out Octber. I've even heard it suppose to better then supersonic Warriors it might even be the last DBZ game for GBA unless anyone has more info on a new DBZ game coming out i'll find it. I don't quiet know if i'll get it because I spent all my money on supersonic Warriors and it was worth it though i'm suppose to get paid for my report card time flies though and I don't know if i'll have enough money. Oh yeah Vegeta is the best character to me even if he can't go ssj3.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 Review

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a really good game. On wii launch day, as I sat sipping myhot chocolate and thinking about what other game I would get (other than Zelda) and I saw a poster for this game. Im a big fan of Dragonball Z, and I saw it has 120 characters. I didnt even KNOW that there were 120 fighters inexsistence, so I got this game. What a pleasent surprise this was.

The controlls are pretty good, but, dispite this being on the wii, it's still a button masher. You have to hammer away at the poor 'A' button. Energy attacks, however, are a bit more fun. You make motions to corrispond with the attack you are using (for example, kamehameha is back and foreword and spiri bomb is up, then down.) Pretty fun stuff. The arenas are pretty cool too. you get a HUGE circle to fly around in, and EVERY SINGLE THING in it can be destroyed. (including your opponent! xD) As you smash the area around you, sometimes a dragonball will apear. collect all 7, and you get a special skill capsule.

Of course, the real crowning achivement, the reason most people who wouldnt normally buy this game will buy this game, is the number of fighters. The box says 'over 120 characters!' This is misleading though. There is 120, but that includes the characters and their transformations. For example, Goku, SS Goku, SS2 Goku, and SS3 Goku all count as seperate people. Still, you still get about 90 different people, which isn't too shabby. Fighters include:

Goku, Gohan, (the rest of the 'crew') Tapion, Lord slug, Pikkon, Giant ape (FINALLY!) cui, bardock, Androids 16-20, android 13, all the main villens, (buu, cell, etc.) master roshi/jackie chun, plus tons more.

Overall, this is a great game that will probably be overlooked by many. too bad, though, because this is really one of the best fighting games ive played, even if it wasnt about DBZ.

Dragonball GT: Transformation Review

Dragonball GT: Transformation
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As the anime of Dragonball Z was beyond fantastic, and the Dragonball GT anime was horrible, so the video games follow. This is a completely different game from Legacy Of Goku, so don't expect it to be similar in any way. The controls are almost completely different, and you don't even get to follow the entire story of GT. Instead you go from the start through the Lost Episodes version of the series, to the end of the Baby Saga. I doubt whether they're going to release a second game.

The graphics are fine, but now you are just side-scrolling through the levels. I liked it a lot better when it was more like an RPG, and you could explore every nook and cranny of the DBZ world. The cutscenes are terrible as well, they could have at least had real scenes, to make it more interesting.

The controls, as stated before, are completely different. You don't have multiple energy attacks, and now you can't use a signiture move without being at full energy. At least now you can jump, and gather energy. In this game you can also throw enemies, which makes the gameplay more fighting-based than story-based. You now have the option of executing combos, for more points (yet another thing I don't like about the game; points are now translated into Zenni in this game).

There are now extras in this game, which cost a lot of money (Zenni). This makes the gameplay repetitive, and boring. By the time you unlock everything you're sick of playing the game anyway. I also hate how you can't simply transform into any of the Super Saiyan forms. Instead you have to unlock them as separate characters, like in Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi.

Overall I would only suggest this game to people who have either not played the Legacy Of Goku games, people who loved Dragonball GT, but not DBZ (are there any people like that?), or die-hard fans of both series. Otherwise I'd just skip this game and buy the DBZ games, and the new Dragonball game.

Dragon Ball Z: Super Sonic Warriors Review

Dragon Ball Z: Super Sonic Warriors
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Add characters from the Dragon Ball Z cartoon series to a wonderful fighting game and you get Super Sonic Warriors...
DBZ: Super Sonic Warriors is probably the best fighting game you will ever get on your GBA. Moreover, if you are a Dragon Ball Z fan this game will really be a blast...
Let's drill down to the reasons I recommend buying this game:
Graphics: 10 out of 10.
Awesome. All characters are perfectly designed and look like they just came out of the pen of original DBZ designer Akira Toriyama. Special Effects (as Goku's Kameha blast, Vegeta's Big Bang Attack or Picolo's Makanko Sapo) are wonderfully rendered and you will see, with great surprise, some real cool graphics going on when you activate them (I won't describe in order to not spoil).
Controls: 9 out of 10.
Finally controls permit you to easily switch from flying to walking. You also get a well-done and really fun to do tutorial which will teach you the secrets of how to master the powers of the Super Saiyan.
Game play: 10 out of 10.
Just like good old Street Fighter or Tekken you can experience different story lines depending on which hero you choose in story mode.
Plus, you can play a whopping 15 characters from the DBZ cartoon. Basically everybody! You also get Buu!
Plus, you can fight against a friend through the GBA link cable.
Can it get cooler than this for a DBZ fan?
Atmosphere: 10 out of 10.
This is the real DBZ cartoon-fighting experience for GBA. If you like the cartoon this game will deliver all its fun.
The bottom line:
This game is a MUST BUY for:
1)DBZ fans. Those who like Goku and associates will love this game.
2)Fans of brawl and fight games. GBA doesn't offer much in this direction and normally they are all kind of crappy games. This one rulez.

Dragonball Z Shin Budokai Review

Dragonball Z Shin Budokai
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai is a port of the incredibly popular Dragon Ball Z: Budokai line.Shin means new or better, so get ready for a new clean game.

Story
5/10

The story of Shin Budokai roughly follows Dragon Ball Z Movie 12: Fusion Reborn.A few plotholes here in there, kind of an unoriginal story A.K.A., Son Goku finds a new enemy, enemy gets followers, Son Goku and friends eventually kill the enemy. The Shin Budokai story is FULL of grammatical errors. It's kind on annoying, but it's also common in most portable Dragon Ball Z games.

Graphics
9/10
AMAZING graphics. The menus aren't too special, words, nice looking letters, colorful, yea.The battlefield is pretty darn amazing though. The stages are the same as the ones from Dragon Ball Z 3, with the exception of Hell of course. The 3D backgrounds are nicely done. The characters are nicely done, not just clothing, but like all of the little details from the anime are right there. The only flaw is a slight freeze in between frames and the lack of changing facial expressions (e.g. Broly is always grinning).

Gameplay
7/10
so if Shin means new, does the mean it is a new battle system?Pretty much. This battle system is supposed to be an amped version of the DBZ3 battle system. The gameplay flows perfectly. It is very fast paced. The brand new Aura Burst lets your character fly around freely and quickly. It is like taking the good parts of Dragon Ball Z 3 and Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! and throwing them into one battle system.Combos are still available, and can go on just as long as the PS2 combos. It sounds like I'm pretty happy with the gameplay, so why did I give it a 7?Well, after Dragon Road is complete, there is absolutly nothing to do.Afterwards, you only have your Survival, Free Battle, and Time Attack Modes. And the Profile Cards are REALLY boring. It's like customizing a school ID with Dragon Ball stickers. Also, the lack of multiple In-Game Transformations makes combos a lot harded to think up.And every character is pre-equipped with techniques, unlike in Dragon Ball Z 1, 2 , and 3 where you get to choose what techniques your character gets.Making every character the same.

Sound
6/10
I hate the new theme song. Also, the music is the same recycled music that we've been hearing sicne 2001.While many of the good tracks are still in Shin Budokai, I want some new music.I mean, Atari and Bandai have legends of American and Japanese music. They can totally do better than what they've been using for the past 5 years. What I love about the sound, Japanese voice actors.Plain and simple. The English voice actors are great too, but the original is just where it's at.

Overall
7.5/10
Dragon Ball Z: shin Budokai puts tons of new mechanics on the table, but doesn't give you too much new stuff that's good. The game gets REALLY boring after you beat Dragon Road and you may feel like you wasted your money after about a week. The game still delivers what a Dragon ball Z fan wants though, fast paced action. The game could do with better mini-games other than Dragon Pace and Profile Cards. Also, I feel kind of annoyed that Atari would advertise Wireless online Play when you can only play using Ad Hoc WiFi.

Rent or Buy?
A rent for sure, if you like games that last 3-5 hours after spending $40, then go ahead, buy it.

I wanted a DBZ game for my PS3 and after finding out it had a bit more sagas than Burst Limit, I got this.

The camera angles are beyond terrible. Good luck to anyone focusing on your opponent when you end up near a wall.

Buttons/commands won't work most of the time and that really sucks when you need them the most.

There is only ONE set of combos per character so 9 times out of 10 you'll end up using Super attacks just to finish the battle.

No screams when they power up. wtf it just looks hella weird.

Battles/playing with characters in the story mode idgaf about. (I really could have cared less about Yamcha/Tien/Chiaotzu fighting a dead Ginyu Force)

Not worth replaying the story mode over and over to get stars. (Goku's alternate outfits are not THAT important)

WAIT until this game is 19.99$ or less, or wait for the sequal which is hopefully 100x better

I read another review for this game before deciding to put my two cents in.First of all, if you can't like this game because of a Crystal Ball, because it's against your religious beliefs, then you shouldn't be watching Dragon Ball Z in the first place. The show is, afterall, fiction.I personally like this game.It fills in some gaps from the show where you wonder, "Hey, what was everyone doing?" in the year that it took the Saiyans to get to Earth after Raditz died.

I've always hoped they'd make a RPG for DBZ, where it didn't always need to have buttons being bashed to get combos. This takes a little more thought, as it is a turn based game.I only wished that they had just went for the whole Dragon Ball universe, but hopefully they'll continue on with this spirit and make the rest of the Sagas in this way.

Blue Dragon Review

Blue Dragon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Blue Dragon brings back a lot of good memories of classic RPGs ive played over the years. While not groundbreaking in any way, Blue Dragon takes all the eastern rpg conventions to near-perfection.

This may come off as a kids game when you see the childlike characters and cartoony animation style, but for every time you see some cute animals dancing you hear someone yell "that bastard!" or you encounter some ridiculously challenging boss. even the hardcore RPGer will find a challenge in some of these bosses.

The music is always fitting and usually quite beautiful. when you have the composer of FF I-V would you expect any less? i gotta say though, the boss battle theme feels a bit out of place. the total cheezemetal wouldnt be as bad without the vocals, and i know Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) is capable of much better. the voice work was all done exceptionally well though, with the main character Shu being voiced by the same actor as Izzy from the original cast of digimon. very recognizeable voice. i hadnt seen that show in at leased 5 years and i knew who it was right away. thats kind of pointless info, but i thought it was cool.

The main thing that drew me toward this game was the job system. If you've played Final Fantasy V you'll feel right at home with this job system. you select a class (sword master, black mage, ect) for each character. you can freely change class when not in battle, and as you grow in each class you learn the skills and abilities associated with that class. as your characters grow in level you can unlock new classes for them, although there are only 9 classes total, which i found a little disappointing; however, the job system is still my favorite aspect of the game. character growth and trying to balance the right mixes of classes for each is done better in this game than most others ive played. its simple yet very effective, like most aspects of this game.

Graphically, i think this game looks great. the world is full of unique and beautiful environments. from the characters to the environments and buildings, this is Akira Toriyama art all the way. this is one of the most cinematic games i have ever played. impressive pixar quality cutscenes and animations abound.

Blue Dragon plays out in the standard turn based style, however, there are no random encounters. you see your enemies walk around the areas as you explore. making contact with them will start the battle. when the battle starts you have a list of commands (attack, defend, spell, ect) and you choose one for each character. i feel a much stronger sense of strategy in this than any other game like this ive played. there is a list at the top of the screen showing you the next 4-10 turns. certain skills can be charged to increase power. the more you strengthen the attack, the more turns you have to wait for it to actualy happen. the charging is done with a mini game similar to the 3 click swing of golf games. little things like this add some extra depth to the combat.

the story itself doesnt shatter any conventions by any means. if you've played Japanese RPGs before you know the idea. evil being trying to overthrow the world/ragtag group of young heros set out to stop him and meet new friends along the way. its just that, like the gameplay, the characters and their underlying stories are done so well. i find myself actually caring what fate is in store for these characters. nearly everyone in this story has such a strong sense of charm and perseverance that you cant help but root for them.

The experience offered by Blue Dragon will make the seasoned RPG player remember exactly what got them into these games in the first place. For those who havent played one of the many Japanese RPGs over the last 20 years, this is one of the best places to start.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 Review

Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2
Average Reviews:

First of all I would like to point out that the game will NOT be 3-D. It will be cel-shaded because that seems to be what everyone is doing now. But one amazing thing this game will have is a fusion capsule. It will enable you to fuse any two characters in the game!! The game will contain 34 characters in all including the ones from the first Budokai. I'm pretty sure this one will have Majin Buu, Kid Buu, Super Buu, Videl, Dabura, and for some reason Dr. Gero although it would have made more sense for them to put him in the first one. And don't delete your data from Budokai from your memory card because all of your skills will be transferrable to Budokai 2. One thing they decided to change is the Story Mode. Sadly there will not be a Story Mode to Budokai 2. It will be something called Dragon World. You and your party of 3 more people will go around the world and search for Dragonballs but if you meet up with a villain who wants the Dragonball you must fight him. You can let the COM fight him or you can fight him yourself... And you will actually get a reward for finishing the Legend of Hercule. I was never informed on what the reward is though. Nor do I know what you will be doing in the Legend of Hercule mode this time either. But I can tell you from searching for it on the net that your character will move more swift, the blast will be bigger and cause more damage, and the new battle places like Capsule Corp or Orange High School (Where Gohan goes to school), will be MUCH more destructible if you happen to be knocked through a wall..... Or 5 or 6....... If you'd seen the clip that they had up at dragonballz.com then you know what I mean. But no doubt Budokai 2 will be something worth waiting for. Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi Review

Let me tell you this straight:This is NOT a DBZ Budokai game.Yes, it has the Budokai name, but that's because it simply had the Budokai license slapped on it for its US release. Forget everything you knew about the Budokai series, because this game's entirely different... which may be a good thing or a bad thing.

Probably the best thing of this title is it features the Japanese voices for the game, so you get to pick whichever you prefer.Longtime fans will probably enjoy hearing many of the original voices, such as mainstay Masako Nozawa as lead hero Goku(and Gohan.. and Goten... and Bardock...), as well as regulars such as Inuyasha's Takeshi Kusao, One Piece's Mayumi Tanaka, Rurouni Kenshin's Hirotaka Suzoki, Cowboy Bebop's Norio Wakamoto, and Sailor Moon's Toru Furuya and Yuko Minaguchi. Not to mention many of the voices, including Daisuke Gori, Hikaru Midorikawa, Toshio Furukawa, and Bin Shimada have provided voices for some of todays top fighting franchises, such as Dead or Alive, Tekken, and Soul Calibur. It's one huge reunion.Characters also have different abilities.Goku, for example, can use Kaio Ken to power up or Solar Flare to blind an enemy so he can get a hit in(ironically though, Tien or even Krillin for that matter, DOESN'T have Solar Flare)In his SSJ mode, he could use Instantaneous Movement to teleport safely behind an enemy and avoid their attack, leaving them open to a crushing blow.Fighting is fast paced and occurs on land, in the air, or even underwater.(apparently everybody can hold their breaths really well). The main mode retells most of the stories, as well as a few movies and some of DB and DBGT.There's also some extra fighting modes, as well as an improved customization menu that even lets you help unlock more characters. There's also some pretty neat character pages for every person you've unlocked, which provides history and attack info and even lists who does who's voice for both the English and Japanese versions. In appearance it seems like the perfect DBZ game... all is not well, however, as there are also quite a few negatives.

First, the controls are very poor.Yes, you heard me.It doesn't matter whether you know what the buttons do or not. They are horribly jerky and unresponsive even after you finally understand how to perform each move. For an example, when I press left, my fighter should go left, NOT STRAIGHT TOWARDS THE ENEMY!The music is also annoying. It's the same stuff we've been hearing since Budokai 1 three years ago... shouldn't we at least get a few new tracks?Story mode's cutscenes are also pretty dull, they're similar to the ones in B1 where two characters would chat right before the battle... unlike B1 though, it doesn't have extra scenes that attempt to copy the anime series.

All in all, DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi is a very mixed bag. Some parts are great, but a few areas could be improved upon.I'd honestly suggest renting first in case you don't like it, because some may be disappointed, especially if they are expecting this to be "Budokai 4."Still, for me at least the positives outweigh the negatives.I'll be playing this for quite some timie, even with more big hits coming out soon.

Dragon Ball: Raging Blast Review

I played the demo for this for weeks, and just having the three characters to play with was enough for me to know i needed to pre-order this game. My friends and I have spent countless hours playing the Budokai Tenkaichi series on PS2, and after the debacle that was Burst Limit I was ready for the next incarnation. And it's in HD. Win.

The game is fast paced, with a free-form flight mode that's absolutely amazing. There's a wider range of abilities than in previous versions of the game as well. It's also absolutely beautiful.

Almost all of the terrain can also be destroyed, either by an energy blast going through a mountain, or slamming your opponent through it. This upgrade is one of the nicest, imo. I haven't been able to destroy a planet yet, so i'm not certain that ability is in the game yet.

This goes from the Saiyan saga through the Majin Buu saga. There's nothing from GT in the game, and I haven't seen anything from Dragonball yet either. The story mode is a bit engaging, as it's tough to keep telling the same story over and over again. There's a bit of dialog during fights, and the one downfall i've noticed is that sometimes the little conversation scenes kill the flow of the battle, and there's usually a sneak attack on you when they're over.

There is also a "What if" mode, with a few alternate timelines you can fight in. It's not very big, and I expected more from it honestly.

Overall, Budokai Tenkaichi lovers will be in heaven. This is a must-have for DBZ fans.
