I have won this game and i really enjoied it.
I watch the Saddle Club movies and the television show all the time so i figured why not play the game. Many people think this is a little kid game but it really isn't. It is challenging and it keeps you thinking.
I really liked how this game correctly shows how much responsibility and care it takes to give them proper care!Some of the other horse games that i have played don't focus on the care aspect of horses and i liked how this game did.
I would suggest this game to anyone over the age of 9 because some of the content is a bit scary and might frighten the younger kids.
This game is wonderful! A great gift for any kid!

(More customer reviews)This game is a great game for young girls.I got it for my daughter on PS2. She's ten and loved it. The story is basic, you have to rescue missing baby horses, but there are hidden coins and presents that let you unlock new outfits for Barbie and customize her horse. A couple of the puzzles were a little challenging, but nothing she couldn't figure out.It was fun for her to jump things and race her friends. Probably my biggest complaint is that controlling the horse takes a little to get the hang of, but after some practice, it became no problem. I recommend this game for any little girl who loves horses like my daughter.She and her brother had fun challenging each other with the multiplayer, too. It's not violent or dark and scary, just a fun and engaging adventure.

I was afraid at first that it might be more fanciful than I wanted, that maybe the horses were not even going to be horses at all, robots perhaps. But thankfully, theyare truly horses. This is a most realistic game, with conditions such assloppy tracks, getting bumped and dealing with getting boxed in.Most funof all is winning the big races, because by the time you accomplish such athing, you have truly put in your time with eating a lot of dust. Yougradually build up a stable of better and better champs, and are invited torace in previously unknown races. Special trophies are awarded to the besthorses, and when they retire, they are placed in a"hall-of-fame", where their stats are memorialized.A knowledgeof horse-racing is almost a must before playing this game, such as knowingthe difference between a dirt and turf track, a sprinter and a distancehorse, and understanding how horses peak differently. Handicapping alsocomes into play. All in all, this is a most rich, educational game. Perhapsmost of all, I have learned how much jockeying can make or break a race, nomatter how good the horse.

Gallop Racer 2004 Review

(More customer reviews)With the challenge from G1 Jockey the people at Tecmo got busy on improving Gallop Racer. They've taking some ideas from both G1 and GR2003 and combined them. As all other horse games are, it's very addicting. Yet with G1 you end up getting bored eventually since there is no breeding and no chances to unlock different areas or functions. I liked G1's actual racing feel more than 2003, but GR2004 is majorly improved in that area. You can now feel the ride of the horse more in GR2004 (like in G1 Jockey). The added feel of the pumping of the horses head is a much needed improvement. Another major change in the new game is the actual use and feel of the reins. The horses are more realistic while turning (albeit more difficult and less machine like). Like all new games it takes awhile to get the timing of the "stretch spurt" down. The main thing Tecmo has taken from G1 is the fact that you have to bargain and interact with trainers for your rides. This is a very complete horse racing game. Also you can, and need to bet on races to earn extra gold (you can't bet on races you are in). You need the extra gold to buy, and unlock other areas. GR2004 still has great graphics, and has much better "in race" sound effects. As for the Background music (while they offer a decent variety) I just found it much more enjoyable with the music all the way off. Lastly, Quarter Horse great announcer Ed Burgart gives the call! I can't wait to get home and play some more!!!

(More customer reviews)In the beggining of the game, you get to choose a breed. Then the mare has a foal, and the foal is your horse. Then you name your horse, and the game goes to "Two Years Later." Then your guide, who looks a little weird, helps you train your horse and enter it in contests. The things you teach your horse are pretty easy. There are four types of contests, and five levels. Every time you get a diploma, whcich is what you get for teaching your horse things, you can enter in a new contest level. The four types of contests are dressage trial, steelchase, cross-country, and eventing. In the dressage trial, you preform tricks. In the steelchase, you go over a bunch of jumps. The cross-country is like the steelchase, but it has a path, and the eventing is all three. You can also go for rides in the forest, and you can unlock new parts of the forest. You have to clean your horse and muck out the stall. You can visit your horse in the pasture, too. In the gear shop, you can buy clothes, saddles, brushes, shampoo, treats, and food. Also, there is an awsome grand prize. If you complete the natonal contests and start a new game, you can get a unicorn! If you want a horse game, you should buy this one.

Final Stretch-Horse Racing Sim Review

(More customer reviews)This game wasn't quite what I was expecting, but now that I have figured it out I am really enjoying it!
The basic idea of the game is centered around horse racing.You have three options:You can be a stable manager, a jockey, or a better.If you choose stable manager, you actually can do all three!
I've found the jockey option to be quite maddening.It drove me absolutely crazy.I rode horses in about a hundred races and finished dead last, or second to last every single time.I tried every strategy I could come up with and could not even ONCE win a race with any horse I tried.And that was on easy level!I think this portion of the game needs serious work - it's way too difficult.
The betting portion is just "ok."You can bet on horses when you're playing the stable manager version as well, so I don't see the fun in playing where you JUST bet.Especially since sometimes it seems completely random which horse wins a race (maybe like real life .. heh!).
The stable manager version is where it gets fun.While it has some serious downfalls, now that I've figured it out I've been having a fantastic time.When you're a stable manager you get to hire staff, build up your stable (buy and improve your buildings), buy and train horses, board other people's horses for cash.You can also go to auctions and buy horses as well as breed and race your own horses.
I'll talk about the cons first.
STAFF: Basically you have no control over your staff.You can hire them, give them raises, and that's about it.You also can choose which Lad works with which horse.I was hoping for more control over staff, and for the staff you have to make a bigger difference.
INCOME: At the start of the game, it is VERY difficult to balance your income and expenditures.I "lost" the game at least 3 times because I ran out of money.The only ways to make money are 1) race 2) sell a horse and 3) boarding.Once you get in to the game and get some international level horses, racing brings in a LOT of cash.In the beginning though, you only will get $2000-$10000 per race if you WIN (which is hard) and you have to subtract from that the fee to enter the race and the jockey fee.Selling a horse is an option, but in the beginning you may have one or two horses... so selling isn't really an option.The last way to get income is boarding, which hardly covers your expenses.For the first hour I played I basically just clicked "next week" dozens of times trying to make enough money from my boarders to afford a new horse (since I had sold mine to pay off my negative bank balance and have an extra stall to board).I think that there are some serious issues with money making in the beginning, and once you get nice horses it becomes too easy to make money.
NO TUTORIAL:This game isn't easy to figure out.The manual is horrible, there is no tutorial and when you hover over a button, there is no indication of what it does.I had to learn by trial and error.
PRACTICALLY NO GRAPHICS:The only time there are any graphics is during a horse race.Even then, it's kind of boring.Every horse looks exactly the same (different colors, same exact body/movement).
HORSES DIE YOUNG:My horses tend to die at age 14-15.In real life, it's normal for horses to live well past 20!I currently own a horse that is 23 and still going strong!
Ok, so those are all the bad things.There are plenty of good things too - else I wouldn't have given this game four stars!
Once you get lucky enough to have an upper level (national/international) race horse, money comes easily and you can afford to buy more horses and rely less on boarding for income.An average purse in an international race is $500,000-$1,000,000!
I've been having a LOT of fun breeding my horses, training and racing them.It's become quite addicting!The training part of the game is fun.You get to pick which activity you want your horse to do each week, and you have to pick well to optimize your horse so that he is in top form and healthy for the race, yet still has the speed and stamina to do well.
People who like games that are heavy in graphics will probably not enjoy this game.This game is mostly text!I occasionally watch my horses race, but normally I skip the race and go right to the results.For those who enjoy text games, and also those who enjoy horse racing and strategy games, this game is a lot of fun!You just have to get past the awkward trial and error learning stage and then the game becomes addicting and incredibly fun!

Gallop Racer 2006 Review

(More customer reviews)I hesitate to give Gallop Racer 2006 a perfect rating (although I really want to), because it is the best...if not nearly the only series of titles available for racing thoroughbreds. I have played the 2004 version and I can say there is one distinct difference with 2006 in that there are no trainers and jockeys to deal with up front. The humor of those characters and general lighter side of 2004 has been completely wiped clean. This and including some other subtle changes makes for a give and take between the old and new that might disappoint some and please others. For 2006 you make the calls as both jockey and manager of your destiny to rise to the top by sifting through the classes of horses and entering races that suites the type of race horse you choose. Since you make the decisions, you ride one horse at a time as opposed to bouncing back and forth between trainers and their respective horses. In one way, this limits your riding on the schedule, but on the otherhand it is much easier to build experience and get a better feel for the horse you ride to retirement and winning seems to come more naturally. Your goal is to win various titles by meeting certain requirements and to do that successfully, it takes raising your stats as a rider, prize money, and a winning horse through breeding.

Some players of 2004 may find the lack of personality and no real changes to the graphics rather a disappointment. However, they will find that controls are untampered with and breeding and access to lineages are much more open than previously assuming you amass enough rider points and cash. There are difficulty settings and with a lower setting, riding is easier making wins more likely to happen sooner than previously.

For those who have yet to try Gallop Racer, you will not likely miss what has gone before. Thoroughbred racing is quick and decisive with little time to execute a plan, even on a fifteen furlong run. Getting a solid start and quickly positioning the horse to his or her best running spot and maintaining the perfect stride is essential to having a chance at winning. Even with a perfect bred horse, things can still go south by getting boxed in if you don't stay alert to the changes in formation throughout the race. The controls are very easy to pick up, but hard to master, especially when you change horses. Stats are humbling. It took me quite a while to grasp what everything means and I'm still learning, but with a little time, things become apparent. It is quite an exciting game and rather unique than other forms of racing. My only nitpick is that the game doesn't feature any practice sessions in career. It doesn't seem likely that a jockey would ride a horse he had not set eyes on before in a high stakes event, particularly against a rival. But, without that small detail, the game is still worth a go if you love horses or want to try something entirely different.

Petz Horseshoe Ranch Review

(More customer reviews)If you are like me, and love a good horse game where you can custom make your own horses, ride them, enter them in competions, and manage a fully-operating stable, this is probably not the perfect game for you.

But if you are not a huge fan of realistic games, and not a MAJOR horse-lover, you might like it.

I bought this game a couple of months ago, mistaking it for a game a horse-freak would love, and bought it. I quickly recognized my fault about 2 seconds into the game. I am a full-blooded horse fanatic, owning my own paint mare, and knowing all about horse management. The first thing I will say about this game is that it is the most unrealistic horse game I have ever played. This is my review:

WARNING- before you read this, let me remind you that this is my opinion, and you are free to think other wise about this game.

PROs:

- You can breed horses, and combine the mother and father's characteristics to make unique foals, like an Arabian-Paint, or a Mustang-Clydesdale.

- Every horse has its own personality, such as easy-going, or fraidy-cat.

- You can 'take' your horse to the pasture to meet other random horses and foals, and if you befriend the
other horses, you can win special prizes.

- You can keep pedigrees that contain info about your horses

- There is an option where you can take pictures of your horses playing.

- Keep up to 10 horses
okay, now onto the cons:

- THERE IS NO MONEY IN THIS GAME: to me, it is boring to be able to buy a horse whenever you want, without really earning them.

- THE STABLE IS MORE LIKE A HOUSE: When your horses get hungry, they magically lead themselves to the 'Kichten", ( Yes, in the game you feed the horses in a kitchen. Wierd... in a real stable you feed the horses on a timed basis, and in their stalls!) Then the animated horses amazingly open the door, and sit, yes sit, there waiting for you to feed them.

- BREEDING. (this usually takes forever!)You have to get 2 adult horses, male and female and put them anywhere they can run around. Then you sit there, and wait for however long it takes for them to become friends,( There is no way to speed up this proccess!) and finally, when the top screen shows your 2 horse's faces, anda big smile in between them, (not like this- :], like this- :D ) That means they are ready to have a foal. The 2 horses face each other, and then hearts start magicaly floating up from theirs heads.a big poster is then presented to you that says: CONGRATULATIONS!(mother's name) AND ( father's name) HAD A PONY!
( A PONY??!!!!It's called a foal, people!!) You tap the pedregrees of the mare and stallion to 'sign' it, then a foal pops out of nowhere in the middle of the screen.

- MARE AND FAOL INTERACTION. After a real foal is born it stays by its mother and its only meal is milk for the first 6 weeks. in the game, after the mother has her foal, she just walks away and so does the newborn. you also feed the foal solid food, just like the adults.

- WEIRDEST PART EVER: dressing up your horses. yep, you 'take' your horses to the "Outfitting Cabin" and pile bows, dresses, shirts, pants, and Hats on the poor animal.

- COMPITITIONS. There are competitions, but you don't ride your horse. you just keep tapping the obstacles from an above veiw and the game decides if you knock a rail down or not.

-THE STALLS. One of the gates outside says "STALLS" but all it is is just a corral where you keep your horses, ( you can only keep 3 with you at a time)

- THE TOILET. there is a toilet in the barn, which is just a pile of hay the horses sit on and do there business. (I won't even comment on this one)

- THE ADOPTION CENTER. when you walk in, you should see 3 horses in each paddock. you tap one, stroke it a few times, then you can take it home. (agian, I won't comment)

- HORSE BEHAVIOR. The horse's behavior is also strange. they do normal things, like grazing, or chasing each other, but 65% of the time they're either sitting or laying down. I am stunned that a game suggests that a horse laying down A LOT in the pasture is 'normal'. Usually It's okay, but in real life, if a horse stays down for a REALLY long time, their weight puts too much pressure on their enternal organs, and so, suffocate. And what about colic!?

Again, this is my opinion, and you may think differently about "Petz Horseshoe Ranch."
I think this game would best suit someone who doesn't mind unrealistic games, and is under the age of 10.
The game is still entertaining though. It's fun to be able to combine breeds to create your own, but I think this game could use some help. ( AKA more Horse Sense)

I'm not saying you shouldn't buy this game, but Ithink you should seriously think about what interests you before you buy it.

When I bought it I was excited to play it and I still am excited to play now! This game can be challenging and fun at the same time. As you go up in the levels(places where they ALLOW you to go) it gets harder. I would surgest this game to anyone who loves horses and sortof challenging action games where you like to run, duck, jump ect. At first it may be boring but when you get up in the levels it gets harder and really fun! So...BUY IT!!! It's definately not a waste of money! It's the best horse game I have played! I LOVE IT AND YOU WILL TOO! Like I said this game is for all ages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your horse is sensitive, if you don't clean his feet gently you'll make him uncomfortable and then you have to massage him and make him trust you again! Lots of WORK in this game. You can just ride of you want to tho in 'quickplay' mode. But I like the vast detail and sensitivity of this game. You need to earn credits to feed your horse and buy him medicine and you can read horse 'books' and buy new clothes.. and breed your own foal! Hundreds of combinations of horse coats, saddles, etc., can be obtained. You can even braid your horses's tail! The riding stables are run down and it's your job to fix it up and get the property looking good again, too, eventually, but that's a side story, really. Lots to do, so much I haven't mentioned, a quite game, will update when more has been achieved, but for now, the riding is very realistic and free, and you can switch to your joystick on the nunchuck if you get tired of flapping your arms like reins.

Very surprised at the detail and work and beautiful riding mountain scenes. Love it! Great horse reign controls.

('Me and my Horse', for the wii was incredible frustrating compared to this great game.

Gallop & Ride is also about 30x more detailed and emersable than the sweetheart of a game "Petz Horse Club" for the wii which was very enjoyable as well (see my review on "Petz Horse Club" which is a great, but very different wii horse game compared to Gallop & Ride".

I'd just stay away from "me and my horse" it just about drove me nuts. If i ever figure it out i'll update this.)

Petz Horse Club Review

(More customer reviews)I probably own most horse games that are out there and to be honest don't get my hopes up too much when ordering any because of the quality of other games I brought, but I was pleasantly surprised with this game.

Here's what is good about the game:-
1.The graphics are better than most games I have encountered.The horses look and move pretty realistically.
2.I love that you can do your own thing if you want and ignore the present task, no clock counting you down
3.You can befriend any wild mustang and bring them back to the ranch
4.You can breed your own foal, choosing different parents creates a different looking foal and you can tweak some of its features before it's born.
5.All the horses you breed or bring home remain in the game - you can interact, groom and ride any of them
6.The competitions are also realistic and not too difficult (Cross Country/Show Jumping and Steeplechase) and you have to warm the horse up beforehand

Here's what's not so good
1.Most of the tasks involve riding to a location (and back) so a lot of time does seem to be spent just riding and as there are only about 6 different locations I can imagine this will get a bit annoying after a while
2.Like most horse games the grooming aspect does become a bit tiresome after a while and this one is no different.The process to 'befriend' a horse is a bit repetitive as well
3.Loading time in between competitions and locations

On the whole I like this game so far, definitely playable for most ages as the controls are pretty easy, I think I'm going to be playing it for a while yet.
