Rock N' Roll Racing Review

Rock N' Roll Racing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A port of an old Super Nintendo classic, Rock 'N Roll Racing is a fun, addictive racing game. However, don't think that this game is simply about racing. The vehicles are equipped with blasters, mines, oil-squirting machines, and rockets, among other things.Initially you being the game with a cheap, slow vehicle with few weapons. As you progress through the game, you earn money in order to buy weapons for your vehicle, or to buy a whole new vehicle. This is a great feature of the game, as it makes no two careers the same; everytime you play the game you can choose your path to victory. You can have a heavily equip a cheaper vehicle, or you can buy a better vehicle, but you will be unable to equip it with many weapons or armor.
The game uses a top down, isometric view of the race course. It feels like you are driving remote controlled vehicles, rather than some racing games that put you in the driver's seat. This is a unique view for a racing game, and it only helps the charm of Rock 'N Roll racing.
As one would assume, the multiplayer feature is fantastic.Nothing gives quite as much joy as blasting your friend right as he is about to cross the finish line.
Rock 'N Roll Racing is a game any avid Gameboy Advance player should own.It will provide you with countless hours of mindless fun.

Crash Bash Review

Crash Bash
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ever since the debut of Nintendo's "Mario Party", the multiplayer party genre is suddenly popular. Now the PlayStation's mascot, Crash, is jumping onto the bandwagon with "Crash Bash". It's the first game developed without Naughty Dog, who created Crash's first four games; instead, it's developed by Eurocom and Mark Cerny. For a first shot, Eurocom has done a great job with living up to Naughty Dog's legacy.
You can play as one of eight characters: Crash, Coco (Crash's sister), Dr. Neo Cortex (Crash's enemy), Dr. N. Brio (Cortex's rival), Tiny, Dingodile, and Koala Kong (Cortex's henchmen), and Kangorilla (a new character). There are also some secret characters, including Ripper Roo (a psychotic kangaroo in a straitjacket) and Penta Penguin.
There's a total of 28 different games to play. One example is a game where you ride on polar bears and joust each other while trying to avoid falling off of the slippery, swaying iceberg on which you're battling. In another, you bounce on pogo sticks and try to make the bricks of the platform you're bouncing on a solid color. There's even a game where you drive through a maze in a tank and blast each other with missiles and mines. Some games, though, are variants of classic games, such as air hockey, racing (although in this, you race in bumper cars rather than go-karts), and standard fighting, e.g. throwing TNT at each other and using your special 'power', etc.
The game allows for 1-4 players, and offers so much fun, you'll get addicted instantly. You'll definitely enjoy it!

Psychonauts Review

Psychonauts
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Everytime Tim Schafer creates a game, I know it will be a blast.Having been on a roll starting with The Day of the Tentacle up through The Grim Fandango, each game has been delightfully intelligent, creative and an overall wonderful experience.Psychonauts is no different. In fact, it is one of the best games I have played not only this year but in a long time.

The setup is that there is a camp for psychic children who feel different in the outside world. At the camp, the counselors teach children how to harness their power to become Psychonauts, psychics who actually enter people's minds and sort out their problems.Because of this setup, each and every world is completely different from the others.Connected to a hub world of the camp, each real "level" is a person's mind. And each mind reflects the person's personality, fears, phobias etc.For instance, the beginning level is that of your drill instructor. His level is a warzone complete with mines, air plane drops, explosions, barbed wire etc.

Tim Schafer's touch is also evident in the characters who are actually characters. They all have a personality and are very emotive.I haven't laughed at a video game so hard since Conker's Bad Fur Day.This game is hillarious. From the kid who practices looking through a peep hole in the day to get practice for when it's filled with girls to trashing a town Godzilla style, the game has it in spades. However, there are some surprisingly disturbing moments in the game that are also darkly humorous.Because you have psychic powers, you also can do some pretty cool stuff from pyrokinesis, telekinesis, levitation, invisibility, etc. These moves help you progress through the levels and pick up hidden items throughout the game.

Graphically, the game is awesome on the Xbox. The levels are done in vivid colors and with a wonderful cartoon style. The campground seems alive as there are creatures walking your path. From squirrels, crows, pigeons, lizards, bears, etc, the world seems populated and just feels real. You can tell a lot of time and effort was put in to make this game come alive and it works. The game is presented in 480p, for those interested.

Aurally, the characters are voiced to perfection. Some great voice actors have been employed and it really helps create characters that are lovable. The only audio glitch I've noticed is that sometimes my speakers will "click" as voices come in or as the sound changes sometimes. The game is also presented in 5.1 surround in game.

Since the game is a platformer, all of the standards apply. In the real world and in each person's mind, there are a ton of things to collect. In the real world, there are arrowheads that can be pulled from the ground that represent cash. There is a scavenger hunt also going on that will earn you rank (which gives you new powers) and there are cards that can be formed as more rank.In each person's mind, there are also different things to collect such as emotional baggage, mental cobwebs, figments of the imagination and safes which you much punch open to reveal some of the person's past. Some of these slide shows are funny and some are actually kind of sad as you see how these people came to be who they are.I list these items to collect just as a note that the game definitely exhibits all of the charms of a platformer. But there actually is a reason to collecting everything and they fit together in this humorous world.

The game moves quickly and besides one or two intstances of panning that had the game do a wave type pattern, it is perfect. My recommendation if you play the game is to take your time talking to everyone. It helps flesh out the story and if you listen and keep making rounds after each world you will see minor breakups, makeups, humorous instances involving squirrels who tell one kid to kill everyone, and plain funny dialogue.Take your time with this one and you will definitely be rewarded.

This game is great, it's just what I was looking for.It helped remind me why I play video games. When a person can create such wonderful worlds and allow you to play in them, you realize why you play games. It is so creative.Where else can you be chased by a giant fish, rage across town as a Godzilla-like creature, be in a disco world where you must race, pin-ball style, wage war against a Napolean complex and set fire to squirrels? If you want a creative and fun video game that will take approximately 10-15 hours of your time, then this is definitely a must buy.Sure some say the game is too easy and relies on platforming cliches but honestly when you are having this much fun, does it really matter? Why quibble over small faults when you will genuinely have a complete and utter blast playing the game?I absolutely cannot recommend this game enough. And unfortunately, it's one of those games that will end up like Ico or Beyond Good and Evil where no one hears of it and no one plays it.Don't let that happen.Play this game because its games like this that the industry needs to keep creating.

A must buy.Creative and excellent.

Crash:Warped is, in my opinion the best in the series. The game is not incrediably huge, but it has alot to offer.Intelligent level designs, whacked-out bossess, and eye-pleasing graphics await you on your journeey. This is a journey that will keep you playing for awhile, since that afteryou initially beat a level and get the crystal, you can go back and playthe level in a time-trial.If you get through the level in under a certainamount of time, you can get other rewards that can unlock more levels andplayable characters after you beat the game. And, with the $19.99 pricetag, it is more than worth the money. If you have this game and really, really like it, i suggest you dish out $20 bucks and pick up Sypro theDragon, also in the greatest hits promotion. In the end, I suggest thatyou buy these 2 games for the price of one new game, and you'll be playingfor quite awhile.Have fun!

The Incredible Hulk Review

The Incredible Hulk
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While not perfect by any means, this GBA adaption of the The Incredible Hulk sucessfully captures the feel of the comic, and is better than it's home console bretheren.Played on an isometric point of view, you control The Hulk through 33 huge levels while walloping on the military and an array of tanks, missles, and other baddies. As you progress, you gain new abilities and attack combinations; meaning that you must play through the game aggressively to succeed. Also, many puzzle elements are involved, and while some are typical (a la flip to switch to keep going), it adds a more intelligent depth to the game instead of just bashing everything in sight.Boss battles are difficult as well, requiring you to strategize your attacks; all of this makes The Hulk much better than expected.Although the fighting elements can wear thin, there is still a bit of replay value to be had here with link cable abilities that add to the fun.The graphics are nicely rendered (and are almost reminiscent of the Hulk game released for 16 bit systems years ago), but don't push the system to it's limits. All in all, The Hulk is one of the better comic licensed games to be released for the GBA, which, along with the earlier released Iron Man, is better than Daredevil and X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse. Also recommended is Activision's Spider-Man games for the GBA which are nothing short of great.

Most of the reviews I have read about this game have been dead wrong.THey grade the game as a poor racer.Though I would take issue with that, this game is hardly a racer. It is much closer to a brilliant monkeyball game with a twist.Monkey ball is way fun, but monkeyball as a car on insane tracks is incredible.THis game is a complete rip off of the pc game track mania, which is a wonderful game.THis game is packed with insanely addictive levels in which you have 20-30 seconds to complete the level with an almost instant restart if you mess up.This format is perfect for the portable system. In addiction to the crazy tacks you must complete in short times, you also have tons of fun mini-games to complete. Finally, if you are looking for a competent racer to compete with, look no further than yourself.Whenever you complete a track, the game saves your run a sa ghost rider. From then on you race against your ghost. If he is ahead, you know you will not unlock the next track.Bottom Line: BUY THIS GAME NOW.You will keep it forever with it's infinite gameplay and track editor options - not to mention all the tracks you can download from the net once you have beat the original ones.

Super Mario Brothers Deluxe Review

Super Mario Brothers Deluxe

This is an excellent adaption of the original game to the Game Boy Color. Now you can play the classic, history-making first game anywhere, even if you don't have a tv or plugg-ins! There are a whole lot of add-ons to thisgame. First of all, they changed some parts of the game for the better. Then they also added the lost levels of the game that can only be accessedwhen you reach a specific high score (of which I can't remember). They alsohave a racing activity with Boo the ghost and a challenge version of thegame where finding red coins and Yoshi's eggs are as important as finishingthe levels, too. And there's also a "verses" edition, where youcan play against one of your friends (or enemies, of course). Whoeveradapted this game to the Game Boy Color said "I want this version ofthe game to be even better," and they did a wonderful job. Thegraphics even look better! The Game Boy screen is too small to fit theentire layout of the levels onto it at the same time, so you have to lookaround using the "Up" and "Down" buttons. But that'sokay, 'cause that just adds on to the challenge of the game! I only gavethis video game 4 1/2 stars because you will still want to see yourselfplay on the big screen, but I would recommend this version of the classicgame to anyone who liked it back in 1985. You'll probobly like this versioneven better!

Sonic Advance 3 Review

Sonic Advance 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is by far the best Sonic GBA outing ever. Whereas SA1 felt too linear and cautious with the stage design, and SA2 concentrated almost entirely on an uneven mix of speed and exploration, SA3 feels a lot more like the old-school Sonic games on the Sega Genesis.
Clearly responding to negative feedback to the previous SA games, Sega have taken the insane 'superspeed', tricks and character animations from SA2 and the intricate level design from Sonic & Knuckles. The game is much longer than SA1 and 2, featuring 7 zones and 3 acts to each zone, as well as 'hub' levels, where you can select to play the acts in any order you wish (and also play/unlock minigames). Glitches like grinding in SA2 have been fixed, and special stages are much easier to reach.
A new element introduced is the 'partnership' system, where you play with a partner, either a friend or AI, enabling you to perform new 'combos': for example, with a Sonic/Cream combo Sonic can breathe underwater and use Cream's homing attack, while with a Knuckles/Amy combo Knuckles attacks with Amy's hammer. 20 combinations are available, each with their own advantages, although it is possible to complete the game by just leaving your partner behind (albeit harder).
The acts themselves feel much like the Genesis Sonics (taking out the massive ebdless pits from SA2), and feature many classic Sonic signatures, like popping bubbles for air, slippery waterways and bouncy flagpoles (and cheap deaths:P). Badnik design has improved, with some enemies who 'do the unexpected', like a piggybank that drains you of your rings. Thankfully, Sega have abandoned the 'running' boss battles of SA2 and returned to the 'static' bosses, each of whom need some getting used to. An improved version of the Phi robot from Sonic Battle also features, and as you fight him throughout the game he gains more attacks and becomes harder to beat. The game is far from easy, and the final acts (and the final boss) are really quite difficult, hard to get past without losing a life or two.
Sound is excellent, featuring the usual cheery tones of the Sonic games with a few twists (ie Sunset hill, with the remix of the original 'Green Hill' theme from Sonic 1). A new addition is the voice acting from Sonic battle, so deaths are no longer signalled by the "bong!" but with a "whoa!". Which is sometimes annoying, especially on the harder stages, but Eggman/Robotnik's "You're going to pay for this!" makes up for this.
Overall Summary:
Graphics 5/5: colourful stages, great character animations
Sound 4/5: cheerful music, voice acting can get on nerves
Gameplay 5/5: most of the level and boss designs are perfectly executed and timed
Lastability 4/5: many charcters and combos to try, gotta find all the Chao!
Overall 5/5: a return to roots for Sonic Team, with all the problems that plagued SA2 smoothed out. Welcome back Sonic!

My cousin gave this game to me about a year ago because she got too old for it and I LOVED playing it at her house on my GBC. It took me a while to beat it but I thoroughly enjoyed the time! The good thing about the game is that you can switch to easy modefor little kids. (My 5 year old brother loves it!)Another good thing is that if you have a Fire Flower or Rabbit Ears and you are hit by an enemy, such as a Goomba, you are still Super Mario and you are not reduced to starting size like you are on Super Mario Bros. DX. The only cons about this game is that Mario can't jump very high and you can't be Luigi, Mario's bro. This game is a must have for Game Boy and for the WHOLE family!

The Ape Escape series has been great from the start. This game is even better than the first two and I would highly recommend it to adults and children alike.

It's good to see a game out on the market that has a sense of humor to it and isn't so violent.Parents can buy this game for their child of any age and not have to worry about them seeing content not suited for their age.

I'm 25 and I love this game. It's very easy for anyone to pick up as the gameplay is not all that complicated - though you do use every button on the PS2 controller.

And who doesn't love monkeys?

Graphics: A (Nice clean animation)
Sound: B (It's cheeky music)
Difficulty: Easy (Don't worry, there are tons of levels and monkeys to capture)

Because it is a CD based unit a lot of the games on the Sony Playstation have a tendancy to be slow in their game play, especally while they boot up into the system."Crash Bandicoot" does not have a lot ofstatistics that it needs to download so all you have to do is hit start andwithin moments the fun begins. With rich graphics and an adorablecharacter "Crash Bandicoot" will have people who enjoy games like"Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Donkey Kong" sitting on theircouches and playing this game until their thumbs become rigid witharthritis. Young children whll enjoy Crash's antics, especally when thegame comes to a stop for a few moments and Crash is forced to wait for theplayer to continue.Older players will like all of the hidden extra levelsand bonuses that they can trip over during game play.

In the tradition of great 3-D action jumping games, Crash Bandicoot is probably the PlayStation equivalent of the groundbreaking Nintendo 64 title Super Mario 64. Now repackaged as one of PlayStation's Greatest Hits, this top-selling game takes you away on a tropical island adventure that is filled with precarious enemies and challenging levels. Our spiky-haired hero Crash needs no weapons to survive the harsh jungle. Instead, he jumps, jogs, and spins his way through numerous lush and downright fun environments. With 26 levels spanned across three tropical islands, Crash Bandicoot is sure to amuse old gamers as well as new. Crash must rescue his girlfriend, Tawna, from the evil clutches of Dr. Cortex. Along the way, he can gather fruit for extra lives, smash boxes for random prizes, and gather tokens that can be used for bonus rounds. Numerous big bosses block your path, which also includes more than a few risky jumps that require split-second timing. Crash Bandicoot's impressive graphics and strong gameplay have already won over many hard-core and casual gamers. While this PlayStation classic has already spawned two successful sequels, the original version remains a worthy purchase.

If you like Mario games, you'll enjoy this game. It's a challenge to complete the game 100%, so if you're the obsessive type, this game will keep you occupied. It's also fun for the less obsessive- you can see theending without completing it 100%.

Let me go on record and say that I was never a fan of the original Crash Bandico Even though Crash was disarmingly cute and fuzzy, and even though the game's graphics were just about as good as they got in those days, the frustrating design of the game made playing it such a painful experience that I still have flashbacks when I see small marsupials on the Discovery Channel. But just one short year after his debut, Crash is back in a sequel that is so far superior to the original that I'm willing to forget the mistakes of the past. The new storyline is simple: A very gullible Crash is corralled into collecting crystals for the evil Dr. Cortex and gems for the terrible N. Brio. There are 25 levels in all; each level contains an easy-to-find crystal and hard-to-earn gems. Instead of being forced to approach the game in a strictly linear fashion, you progress through a series of five warp rooms. Each warp room contains five levels, which you are free to tackle in any order. After you have found the crystals in each level, you can progress to the next warp room. This system of warp rooms is a great innovation; it's clear how to progress in the game, and yet you have the option of moving to a different level if you're hopelessly frustrated with one area. Best of all, you can save your game in the warp room at any time (a big improvement over the original game's horrific save system).

Regarded by many as the best game to ever grace the original NES, Super Mario Bros. 3 gets shrunk down for the GBA, and it is all the more glorious all these years later, even on the small screen.Featuring re-vamped graphics and sound effects with the tried but true side-scrolling Mario fun, Super Mario 3 is every bit as fun as it was years ago.Fans who remember the classic game will remember the innovative power ups introduced here: the raccoon leaf, the frog suit, and plenty more as you take on Bowser's children and the Hammer Bros. as well as the usual cast of Mario villains. The level design has yet to be beat, and despite a few frustrations that are common place in the Mario series, the game is still a blast to play. All in all, Super Mario Bros. 3 is a must own for GBA owners and DS owners alike, and it's still one of the best platformers ever made.
