GripShift Review

GripShift
Average Reviews:

Most of the reviews I have read about this game have been dead wrong.THey grade the game as a poor racer.Though I would take issue with that, this game is hardly a racer. It is much closer to a brilliant monkeyball game with a twist.Monkey ball is way fun, but monkeyball as a car on insane tracks is incredible.THis game is a complete rip off of the pc game track mania, which is a wonderful game.THis game is packed with insanely addictive levels in which you have 20-30 seconds to complete the level with an almost instant restart if you mess up.This format is perfect for the portable system. In addiction to the crazy tacks you must complete in short times, you also have tons of fun mini-games to complete. Finally, if you are looking for a competent racer to compete with, look no further than yourself.Whenever you complete a track, the game saves your run a sa ghost rider. From then on you race against your ghost. If he is ahead, you know you will not unlock the next track.Bottom Line: BUY THIS GAME NOW.You will keep it forever with it's infinite gameplay and track editor options - not to mention all the tracks you can download from the net once you have beat the original ones.

MediEvil Resurrection Review

MediEvil Resurrection

Video games are always a tough call if you've never rented or had a friend let you play theirs before buying. It can be very subjective and someone that gives it 5 stars may be a 2 star game to you. With Medievil I'll list some good and bad and hopefully you will see something that will help you decide.

The Good:

The game is very witty. Many of the cut scenes and comments are laugh out loud funny. The story line is entertaining and gets you involved right from the start.

The graphics are excellent. No choppy movements, and the action is smooth with no long load times.Rich colors, interesting scenery and it's easy to get a handle on the controls. As for the sound effects, the voices are great, the music is well done and the battle effects are solid and not overdone.

The not so good:

Not much replay value. One you beat it, there is not much reason to go back in and do it again. The mini games are fun, and if you play it after you complete it, will most likely be those, not the main game.Sometimes the camera angles are akward, and you can't control looking up/down and left/right like other games.

Overall, I give 4 stars due to the games that are clearly a notch above, such as Siphon Filter and Grand Theft Auto Liberty City.I had a good time playing it, took my time and made it worthwhile.

Virtua Tennis World Tour Review

Virtua Tennis World Tour
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this game because I enjoy tennis and figured I would probably enjoy a tennis game. The World Tour portion of the game is probably the most fun part of owning the game.

The World Tour - The Meat and Potatos of Single Player
Creating a player for the World Tour isn't as indepth as I would've liked, but it does a good enough job. You create both a male and a female character and can switch between the two to raise their stats. To raise your stats you must play mini games that increase your skills in serving, volleying, footwork, etc. You gain experience for the minigames and, depending on what skills you used more over the course of the game, your skills go up. Completed challenges give multipliers to the experience so it behooves you to win.

To raise money, you can play in tournaments. You start ranked last at 300 and then slowly make your way up as you win tournaments. Tournaments are much quicker than real life tournaments (thankfully). Most usually consist of a few "best 2 out of 3" matches. Doubles tournaments require you to spend your winnings on contracts and pairing up with some of the top tennis players. The computer controlled players actually did way better than me... which was kind of disconcerting.
The game was very entertaining from a tennis fan's point of view though there were two issues that I had with the game that keep it from getting that last star.

General Gameplay Issues
The first issue I had was the overall sluggishness of the interface. There was constant loading in every part of the game. Starting from the create a player interface to the world map where you choose what to do. And it just slowed down the process. It would've been nice if failed attempts at minigames would give you a prompt to see if you wanted to try it again instead of reloading the world map and having to reload the levels again. Though the fact that i would play the same minigame over 10 times in a row should show how addictive it can become. The slowness may be attributed to the firmware version 1.52 that i had installed (ver. 2.00+ is out), and I don't have another PSP to try the game out on.

The second minor issue I had was with the minigames. True, they're fun and addictive, but they don't really change much as the game continues. The levels remain the same. They just add a few more objectives and keep the time limits the same. Some just seemed extremely difficult given the lack of control you have in the beginning.. but they were still keeping me coming back for more so I suppose the issue isn't as big a deal. But the difficulty coupled with the loading times were an annoyance worth mentioning.

Conclusion
I recommend the purchase to anybody wanting a decent tennis game to play on the go (The tiny ball on the screen sometimes gets hard to track). Otherwise you'd probably be better off buying a console version of Top Spin (better graphics and faster loading).

PSP owners have been waiting for a new iteration WipEout since the system launched, and here it is at last.

And it's great! Faster load times than the original, the ability to use custom soundtracks (in addition to the great soundtrack in-game), and new game-modes mean the WipEout lovers will rejoice! That means... I rejoice!

An absolute must-buy for the system. First step? Hit the "add to shopping cart" button at the right of your screen!

Medal of Honor Heroes Review

Medal of Honor Heroes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game has been on my "Must buy" list for about three months now.And picking it up today was a sigh of relief, almost.

When you first turn on the game, you are struck by the music and the main menu. Once again, EA NAILED IT! Great MUSIC, and the Menu is easily navigatible.

I thought it'd be best to learn the control scheme in Skirmish mode rather than try my luck at playing online......once again, WOW! It was as if I had picked up a PS2 controller. The guys at EA got this right! There are a lot of small "shortcut" buttons that allow for all the functions that the PS2 Medal of Honor Games have. For example, double tapping the right D-pad button will automatically switch to grenades from your weapon--very handy in a heated online game!

As far as the Multiplayer, which is why 99% of people are buying this game, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!I was shocked to see that there was already 32 people online, and I jumped into a game with no hassle. One thing I love about the game is the ability to pick up weapons! This is very handy when you are regularly a sniper, but at the moment, the Bazooka that the guy you just killed was carrying looks very appetizing.

Another GREAT feature that adds a lot of strategy to the game is the Sprint function.By normal ways your soldier will walk, and if you NEED to run, you tap, and then hold the up analog stick. By doing this your character will sprint, BUT he will also lose his energy (which is represented by a meter in the lower left corner). Once he regains his energy you may sprint again. This is very much like real life, and is a healthy alternative to those other games that let you sprint continuously around maps with irregard to the fact that humans, and especially weapon-carrying soldiers DO get tired, and slow down.

Really, I can't say anything bad about the game AT ALL.My only advice would be to turn the sensitivity of the analog stick and directional buttons up ALL the way, because they were a bit sluggish when just starting.

The maps in this game, were something I didn't cover to well, but they absolutely ROCK! My favorite so far is the bridge map! I sniped 4 Nazi-Scums on that map in about 2 minutes.

Got to go kill some Nazis!!!!
