Earthworm Jim Special Edition Review

Earthworm Jim Special Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been a fan of Earthworm Jim for years now. Through out my child-hood this game dogged me to my frustration; anybody whose played knows this is a difficult game even set on easy. But, at age nineteen I bought and played again and again until I was able to beat it, having finally mastered the nasty Tube Race level. I played it so much I eventually got good enough to beat it on hard and die only twice.

Now, being able to play Earthworm Jim in it's entirty I can say this Sega CD classic just plain rocks!
Just about everything that was great about the SNES version has been made better. The levels are longer, there are two bonus levels, one exclusively on the genesis and another one exclusive to the CD and the music has also been re-tooled to sound better. Jim even has a new weapon, a homing rocket, that is a blast to use! Jim's voice even sounds white-trashier, with on an occasional butt-hole suffer kind of accent.

There are, however, a couple of things lacking about the Sega CD version. Sometimes certain sounds or sound effects actually sound worse on this version than they did on the SNES version, and some funny sound effects are also lacking. Professor Monkey-for-a-Head seems to be missing his zany laugh whenever you shoot him, and Peter Puppy's adorable puppy squeal when you whip him is also absent. They did, however put in a slurping sound for when Evil The Cat cleans himself (go figure). The worst of all is the final fight with Queen Slug-for-a-butt. Her screams sound like a rooster being tortured and after a while it gets quite annoying as you just want her to die and shut up.

The music in What the Heck? and Andy Asteroids sounds much improved but sometimes I preferred the SNES music to the Sega CD in some levels, such as Level 5 and Snot a Problem.
The bonus levels, Big Bruty and Intesinal Distress are quite apart from the other levels in being funny and are more creepy than anything.

New Junk City: The improved music is pretty groovy! but the additional section were Jim must brave the dump suitless as a mere worm might give you some trouble.

Andy Asteroids: Much improved banjo-get-away music! There seem to be asteroids and they can be quite difficult to dodge. Prepare to lose to the pot-bellied Psy-Crow more often.

What the Heck?: Best improvment on the music! The level lay out is slightly different and you get your taste of plenty of useful homming missles!

Big Bruty: Very creepy level. Creepy music that sounds more like ambience for a horror movie, giant mosquitos and, of coure, big bruty, a dumb dinosaur that trys to swallow you. Big Bruty sounds like a demented Hyena when he charges you.

Down the Tubes/Tube Race: Not much different here accept for a wavy water effect throughout the level and the music has been changed from the New Junk City theme to the Level 5 theme. Navigating in the submarine feels a little more difficult...

Snot a Problem: Pretty much the same only the music doesn't sound as good as it did on the SNES version.

Level 5: This level is harder than before and features less techno-y sounding music.

For Pete's Sake!: Meteor showers! There's severl more now than just the one! This can be quite difficult.

Intesintal Distress: Very creepy. Like something from a Nine Inch Nails music video.

ButtVille: The last and hardest level of the game. If you beat it on only easy mode you don't get to see the ending. Instead you get a long, butt funny, excuse me, but funny speach about earthworms.

Overall the Sega CD version is a little harder so it's the perfect challenge for Earthworm Jim fans. People who suck at games beware, this is not for you(especially the crybabies who said earthworm jim was too hard!)

Uncharted Waters Review

Uncharted Waters
Average Reviews:

Instead of the typical sword and sorcery role-playing game, Uncharted Waters makes you the captain of a small ship during the Age of Exploration.Game play is addictive and rarely frustrating.Patience and endurance will usually result in a satisfactory outcome, and your character will marry the princess and become the king of Portugal within 8-10 hours of game time.Random events include battles with pirates and storms, with more pirates and fewer storms the longer you play. The only limitations are in the results of the game -- aside from becoming a pirate yourself, you _will_ marry the princess and become king of Portugal. In some respects, the game is actually educational, especially in terms of geography. All in all, this is in the "blast from the past" category and worth picking up if the price is right for you.

NINTENDO NES GAME: A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Review

NINTENDO NES GAME: A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been playing this game since I wore diapers (I'm serious). This is really fun and entertaining. I love it! The only down side is with muliple players. If you have a really good player and a bad one, you will most likely end up losing your soul to Freddy. The reason for that is that the two people need to be in the screen. No split screens in this game. For information on the game, it is roughly based on the movie A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Another version, but completely different, was released for Commodor 64 & PC. Just to wrap this up, it is a great game even with poor graphics, (give the designers a break! they didn't have high-tech HD computers and fancy tools like today) so give it a chance and play. You won't regret.

NES Advantage Joystick Review

NES Advantage Joystick

The NES advantage was great... All the cool kids had them. And unlike some of the awful accessories Nintendo would unleash on us kids like the Power Glove, the advantage was actually a good, solidly made peripheral. It brought home the feel of the arcade like never before, and for those willing to get used to it (or already were used to it, due to rigorous arcade playing), it offered a level of precision unmatched by a standard controller. There are plenty of games that are best played with a classic NES controller, but there were also a great many that made you glad to have the Advantage handy. It even had turbo switches, which back in the NES days were a necessity for some games. If you had an NES, you wanted an Advantage arcade stick!

Jackal Review

Jackal
Average Reviews:

It originated in the arcades, and this game forced people to pump in quarters, but at home it challenged people with limited lives and continues. Basically this is a top view shooter like the Commando video game, only you drive in jeeps. You shoot, throw grenades, pick up POWs and transport them to helipads. All while avoiding bullets, soldiers, vehicles and crazy boss fights.

The jeeps can only shoot north and throw grenades every which way. Much like how Commando could only throw a grenade north and shoot every which way.

Its worth a play and it is a classic, just expect to die a lot, but at least its not costing you quarters.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project Review

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this game even 15 years later! This is an awesome beat-em up game with everyone's favorite four turtles, Donatello, Michaelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael. The game starts when the turtles are vacationing on a beach, the evil Shredder comes and steals Manhattan Island. The turtles go back into action, brawling baddies on the beach and then surfboarding back to NYC (first 2 levels).

If you've played TMNT the Arcade Game, its the same system, just with more diverse fun. The graphics and gameplay are taken straight from the previous TMNT Arcade Game (NES port). New moves include throws, and each turtle has their own special manufer that will drain health when used. There is a wide array of character bosses from the cartoons and movies. Rocksteady, Bebop, Tokka, Rahzer, Super Shreder, Krang (and his body), Groundchuck, Slash and more.

More foot soldiers, more tricks, traps and obsticles! Its an amazingly great game! It was awarded best game of 1992 by Electronic Gaming. Find this game, rent it, buy it, play it and you're in for some fun, especially with a friend as another turtle.

Rock N' Roll Racing Review

Rock N' Roll Racing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A port of an old Super Nintendo classic, Rock 'N Roll Racing is a fun, addictive racing game. However, don't think that this game is simply about racing. The vehicles are equipped with blasters, mines, oil-squirting machines, and rockets, among other things.Initially you being the game with a cheap, slow vehicle with few weapons. As you progress through the game, you earn money in order to buy weapons for your vehicle, or to buy a whole new vehicle. This is a great feature of the game, as it makes no two careers the same; everytime you play the game you can choose your path to victory. You can have a heavily equip a cheaper vehicle, or you can buy a better vehicle, but you will be unable to equip it with many weapons or armor.
The game uses a top down, isometric view of the race course. It feels like you are driving remote controlled vehicles, rather than some racing games that put you in the driver's seat. This is a unique view for a racing game, and it only helps the charm of Rock 'N Roll racing.
As one would assume, the multiplayer feature is fantastic.Nothing gives quite as much joy as blasting your friend right as he is about to cross the finish line.
Rock 'N Roll Racing is a game any avid Gameboy Advance player should own.It will provide you with countless hours of mindless fun.

Little Nemo: The Dream Master Review

Little Nemo: The Dream Master
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Little Nemo came out at a time when the NES was it's hottest, along with a young Capcom (who had already had success with the Megaman franchise as well as a number of Disney Titles).

The story behind Little Nemo is that Nemo is on an adventure through slumberland. With eight levels each one getting progressivly harder.Nemo is armed with Candy which can stun his foes and get certain animals on his side. From the Frog who increases his jumping ability to the Gorilla who is a powerhouse the game featured many things.Within each level (outside of the last) you had to gather a set # of keys in order to escape the level. In the final level Nemo, now armed with the Kings magic septer must square off against the Nightmare king and his villians.

This game is a fun classic that did suffer a little from an insane difficulty, especially in level 3 where your on a speeding train. However if you are an NES fan to fanatic than this is definetly a must own title.

Battletoads Review

Battletoads
Average Reviews:

At the time this game was notorious for its inability of most of the general public to get past level 3.Most kids at the time just couldn't.And for a game that has it's content so well designed for kids (a TMNT rip-off, 'toad tongue-in-cheek) this is unfortunate since the dynamics of each of the 12 levels are incredibly varied.Really the game itself isn't a kid's difficulty level.I've heard many deem it the TOUGHEST NES game ever, arguably more so than even Metroid.Because much of it can only be done from memorizing the map (like dodging walls in the speeder / level 3), it will invariably take a few games PER LEVEL.There are no passwords although there are warps (a real gamer won't need them). There's many, many highlights beyond 'level 3' - the Surf level, the giant snakes, the Elevator Shaft, and if you're lucky, the Dark Queen's tower. You'll be doing anything from fighting 'Double Dragon' style to Castlevania-platforming to dodging obstacles in your plane, unicycle, speeder, whatever. The monsters and sense of humor the game provides make the whole thing move magnificently + STILL make me wonder if this has a cancelled cartoon show pilot somewhere...

Shadowgate Review

Shadowgate
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Knowing how far video games have come in the past few years, it is easy to forget the classics. "Shadowgate" is considered by many to be one of the best and most innovative RPGs of it's time, and is still a hot item amongst older gamers (like me) to this day.
You are an adventurer who is on a quest to stop the evil Warlock Lord, who has the power to destroy humanity. So you enter Castle Shadowgate in order to seek out the Warlok Lord and end his reign. Of coarse, nothing come easy. You encounter dangerous beasts, ghosts, and if you fail, death himself. You also have to solve mind-bending puzzles, which is the main appeal of this game. You have to rely more on your brains and wits rather than your sword. The game is quite difficult the first time through, and will definitely keep you busy for a few days at least. But there in lies the big flaw in "Shadowgate". There is no replay value. Once you have beaten the game, you know all the secrets and can easily breeze through the second time around. I beat this game in two weeks, but the second time I beat it in less than 45 minutes. But considering the age of this game, it is not a huge downer. It is still a fun trip down memory lane.
In terms of graphics, they are great by NES standards. The colors and textures add depth to any given situation, while the music also compliments the mood. Since this is an old-school RPG, the emphasis is more on story and puzzles rather than action and fighting.
For games who want to experience games from their childhood, or see where games like "Final Fantasy" came from, you should check out "Shadowgate".

Spy vs. Spy Review

Spy vs. Spy
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a must have for those people who just want to one up their friends. You both play as spies in a single building. Each building is a level, and there are only eight levels. As the spy your mission is to find the exit to the building before the other spy. Ofcourse the other spy is looking for the exit too, so you must set traps, such as spring doors, buckets of acid over the doors, bombs, and other traps to stop him. When one of you die, you start at the beginning of the building again. Its a nice game, but there is no challenge in the one player mode, so it goes by very quickly.

Developed from the popular Mad Magazine comic series, the White Spy and Black Spy do battle on your Nintendo Entertainment System in this split-screen action game. Your mission is to penetrate the foreign embassy, obtain the top secret briefcase and leave in time to catch your private getaway plane. Players control their spy's every action as the zany agents in black and white search for items needed to complete the mission. To escape, each spy must acquire a passport, secret plans, keys and money. The search gets more challenging as the number of booby-traps are increased. But remember where you put them -- booby traps can backfire, so be careful to not get caught in your own trap!

Dr. Mario Review

Dr. Mario
Average Reviews:

This is an excellent game and if you were looking for a version of Tetris that was more challenging, than DR MARIO was for you. This game is sometimes very tricky, but it's very fun as well.
The object of the game is to match the colors of the pills that are being dropped onto the viruses below and by doing this killing them off, one by one. I really don't carw what anyone says but this game rocked. In Tetris, the challenge was to clear lines that are at the bottom and they build up. In DR MARIO you had to play the boards as they were giben and in most cases, the viruses were all over the place so placing some of the pills in the wrong place could come back to haunt you.
Like I said, the challenge to this game is great and it never got tired. Really check out DR MARIO it's worth it!

Classic NES Series: Bomberman Review

Classic NES Series: Bomberman
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In 1987 Bomberman was a nice fun and addictive game. The "Classic NES Series" version is fun too but it feels as if something is missing.
Bomberman has a very simple concept to grasp. You're placed in an arena with monsters and you must destroy these monsters with bombs. There are also walls and such blocking your path that you can bomb.Bomberman has 50 levels so it'll keep you busy but its the same thing throughout all 50 levels. The enemies begin to move faster and faster as the levels increase.
The original version had long passwords to right down.Thankfully this version lets you save your game when you get to another level (kind of like the original NES Metroid in Metroid Zero/Prime).You can just as easily push the L and R buttons at the same time.
The problem with porting a classic is you port the problems too.Bomberman is fun but being 50 levels long makes the game rather boring and tedius. Especially considering you're dropped in virtually the same arena.
The other problem is that since the original Bomberman never had multiplayer, neither does this.Multiplayer is what really made Bomberman fun.
This is a nice Classic NES Game but to be frank, the original version wasn't much so why would this port of the original be any different? There are still fifty levels and it still gets boring in the middle. But at least unlike other games with the same basic level it has an end.
Easily this is for anyone who is a fan of Bomberman, and I mean a die-hard fan.I'm not a die-hard fan of the first Bomberman.
