Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Gold Compilation Pack Review

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Gold Compilation Pack
Average Reviews:

I have not bought the Gold Compilation, but I have bought all threegames separately, and I can safely say that this is a great deal.Overall, I think I've spent about $90 on the game and two expansion packs, so this is much better.

The game itself is great.It makes the leap into the 3D realm flawlessly without sacrificing the gameplay that made the original RCT's so fantastic!All the quirky things from the original RCT3 have been fixed in these expansion packs, and the ability to make water parks and animal exhibits is great.Of course, don't get me started on the HUUUUUUGE assortment of flat rides and roller coasters.They are enough to keep you busy for hours.

Unfortunately, the game is a huge strain on your computer system.I have a 1.6Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 128 GeForce FX Video Card, and still, the park gets really choppy as it grows to include more rides and people.I wouldn't buy this game unless your computer's specs are similar to mine.I previously played it on a 256MB computer with the same video card, and it was awful.So yes, the game does use up a lot of memory, but if you are lucky enough to have an above average computer, then you should have no problem running the game.Enjoy!

Super Smash Bros Review

Super Smash Bros
Average Reviews:

It didn't take Nintendo long before they figured out that if they took all their cool characters and crammed them into a fighter with great graphics and sound that the end result would be an awesome game.The whole gang ishere, including the Mario Bros., Pikachu, Link, DK, Kirby, Fox, and Yoshi. Up to four players can pit themselves against each other in eight differentfighting arenas.The one player mode is equally entertaining, and thesecrets to be unlocked will keep you playing for hours.
GRAPHICS:SmashBros. sports a great look with bright colors, eye popping effects, anddetailed characters and backgrounds.Occasionally during the multiplayer,however, there is some slowdown.
CONTROL:The controls are extremelysimple and easy to master.But a lot of the moves strongly rely on theanalog joystick for execution, which can be frustrating in the heat ofbattle.
SOUND:Smash Bros.'s sounds will be music to your ears.Thetheme music which accompanies each stage flows nicely with the variouscharacter voices.The only cons are the annoying cries of Pikachu, whichmay appeal to Pokemon fanatics.

All of your favorite Nintendo characters have come together to answer the question: who is king of the Nintendo hill? The format can aptly be described as Super Mario Kart meets Mortal Kombat, which makes for an odd, yet addictive game. The object is to throw, punch, smash, or blast your opponents off the edge of the beautifully rendered, themed arenas. Numerous power-ups, weapons, and surprises help or hinder the melee. Your eventual goal is to fight your way through to a bizarre final boss character. Victory in this battle rewards you with another character to play, such as the scene-stealing Pok

Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness Review

Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
[Note: This is coming from a 21-year-old reviewer]
I don't see why people are having a problem with this game. Personally, I was a big fan of the 3d-cartoony style of RPGs from when they first made big splashes on the Dreamcast. Games like Grandia, Skies of Arcadia... I just love how these games are done, and Pokemon XD is no exception.

So what the XD for? An "extra dimension" of play. Apparently, all this really means is that you get a new character, a new storyline, and get to set out on the usual Pokemon adventures. Which isn't bad- I haven't played a Pokemon game yet I didn't like (excluding the smaller spinoff games, of course). This game supports the full cast of characters from Sapphire / Ruby / Emerald, and that's a whole lotta Pokemon.

You start as (since you name yourself, I'll call the character Hero), a kid who finds out, as usual, that you're responsible for saving the world by battling cute little monsters with monsters of your own. This time, you're given a sort of cybernetic arm attachment and headset that allows you to analyze and capture Shadow Pokemon- who must be converted back to the "light side" through love and affection in order to regain their former power.

What's new? If you played Colliseum, basically nothing. There's a new story, and the new Shadow Lugia Pokemon wandering the continent. Other than that, however, you'll only want this game if you just enjoy "catching them all" that much.

For fans like me who missed Colliseum, but have played the original games, you get to experience Pokemon in a well-thought-out 3d setting that's just gorgeous. Shadow Pokemon come equipped with Shadow type moves when you get them, so Pokemon you never would have thought about bringing out before suddenly become extremely useful as you'll always have Shadow moves to fall back on. Very nice. Speaking of which- yes, you have to steal Shadow Pokemon from the villians who use them for battling. What you'll really do is defeat all of the opponent's other Pokemon and from there, it's no different from capturing rare Pokemon in earlier games- only this time, the enemy can't run away, and if you accidentally defeat it instead of capturing, you can re-battle almost any time you want!

Never played Pokemon? It's an extremely easy to learn game, complete with insanely cute and cool Pokemon to battle, and it's family-friendly, as not even the wildest situations would rate above PG.

A lot of reviewers have said you can't catch wild Pokemon- and that's not exactly true. There are many "spots" where you can leave out treats and try to capture wild Pokemon- leaving more treats means Pokemon stay longer, so they're easier to capture. It's not quite like crawling through the grass in the old games, but it gets the job done. I saw a few other reviewers comment that converting the Shadow Pokemon takes too long- just through battling in the early game, I was able to cleanse more than one Pokemon per hour of play, and that included time it took to unlock an area to complete the process. Doesn't seem so bad to me! Plus, I haven't even opened up the secondary cleansing method available in the game.

Overall- It's another Pokemon game, and a pretty good one. It's colorful, it's cute, and it's been extremely fun to play. If you're plopping down money for a Pokemon game, isn't that exactly what you expect? Sure, stealing Shadow Pokemon and cleansing their hearts is a little different- but it's fun. The only people I wouldn't reccomend this game to are Colliseum fanatics who don't feel like starting the experience over- the two games are basically very similar. My girlfriend played Colliseum tons, and I could barely pull her away from the Gamecube on this one, but apparently other Colliseum fans feel otherwise.

Sims 2 Holiday Edition Review

Sims 2 Holiday Edition
Average Reviews:

....since the Holiday Stuff pack came out, which includes the same plus even more holiday items, you'd be better off buying the regular Sims 2 base game and the Holiday Stuff pack rather than this.

However, if you don't want to spend the extra cash for the Holiday stuff pack and would be happy with only two-thirds the amount of holiday objects, then this would be the way to go to save some money.

Either way, the Sims 2 is SIMply awesome and well worth the money!!Just be sure your computer meets the game's system requirements before buying it, as it is highly 3-D graphics and memory intensive.

I've been playing Sims 2 for almost a year now and this is one game that you can really never tire of.Maxis is always coming out with new stuff add-ons and expansions to keep it interesting.I have all of the expansions and add-ons out so far and plan on getting all future releases, too.It's that fun!!!

~~~~Remember:This is a BASE GAME EDITION, exactly the same as the regular Sims 2 BASE GAME except with some extra holiday objects, and NOT an expansion!!~~~~
Later note: This review was written *prior* to the holiday 50% price cut.
This new game is incredible. There are six net navis (net navigators) per cartridge. The stories on Team Protoman are diffrent from Team Colonol. The new Soul Unisons (or Double Souls) are Proto Soul, Gyro Soul, Medi Soul, Search Soul, Magnet Soul, and Naplam Soul. You can also use the Soul Unison System with Dark chips to create Chaos Unisons. Be careful, the dark power of Chaos Unisons might overload and become MegamanDS. Frogger's Adventures: Temple of the Frog Review
Frogger's Adventures: Temple of the Frog
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
This is the first game I've ever bought, and it's great! I'm sure that some more experienced gamers might find it too "simple", but if you're like me, and new to this GBA system, it offers _plenty_ of challenges, believe me. Reminds me of the games I used to play in arcades. But this Frogger is much more fun and "involved" than the old version. Frogger is always under threat of danger, but he's non-violent, choosing instead to outwit his opponents, or just avoid them altogether, as he goes about his mission (through several wonderfully imaginative, totally different "worlds") of collecting the items he'll need to save his swamp-friends back home from the Bad Guys who've come to town. Under proper lighting (a challenge in itself, with the GBA system), I was totally jazzed by the intricate graphics, and vibrant colors. I do like to turn off the "music", as I find it irritating, but the sound effects can be left on by themselves, and add to the fun. The game can be turned off anytime, and restarted later at the same point you left off, which is a nice feature, too. This game is perfect for kids or adults who are looking for a fun way to enjoy the GBA system...and help out a plucky little frog at the same time! I couldn't recommend it more highly.
Saitek P880 Dual Analog PC Game Pad Review
Saitek P880 Dual Analog PC Game Pad
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
I stumbled across these game pads, while trying to find an inexpensive controller for a couple of systems I was building for my sister and brother. At first I didn't expect much, and figured this would get them started then they could upgrade to a more [costly] rumble pad later. I plugged it in and Windows XP picked it up and set it up. (DON'T LOAD THE DRIVERS DISK ON XP). So I popped in F1 2002 and it worked pretty well, then I went on and played Madden 2002, NASCAR Racing 3 and 4, and NHL 2002, and it was great. Turned to my system, which has a Logitech Rumble Pad and get this... was disappointed in the Logitech performance compared to the Saitek. Who would have figured, an [inexpensive] controller (price wise) would play better then a [costly] big boy. Well between you and me, I kept one of these for myself, and gave the Logitech to my sister's kids. Often you get what you pay for, but sometimes you get more then you expected!
Trust me with this game pad you are getting way more then you are paying for. Who says [more costly] = better?
Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi Review
Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
Let me tell you this straight:This is NOT a DBZ Budokai game.Yes, it has the Budokai name, but that's because it simply had the Budokai license slapped on it for its US release. Forget everything you knew about the Budokai series, because this game's entirely different... which may be a good thing or a bad thing.
Probably the best thing of this title is it features the Japanese voices for the game, so you get to pick whichever you prefer.Longtime fans will probably enjoy hearing many of the original voices, such as mainstay Masako Nozawa as lead hero Goku(and Gohan.. and Goten... and Bardock...), as well as regulars such as Inuyasha's Takeshi Kusao, One Piece's Mayumi Tanaka, Rurouni Kenshin's Hirotaka Suzoki, Cowboy Bebop's Norio Wakamoto, and Sailor Moon's Toru Furuya and Yuko Minaguchi.Not to mention many of the voices, including Daisuke Gori, Hikaru Midorikawa, Toshio Furukawa, and Bin Shimada have provided voices for some of todays top fighting franchises, such as Dead or Alive, Tekken, and Soul Calibur.It's one huge reunion.Characters also have different abilities.Goku, for example, can use Kaio Ken to power up or Solar Flare to blind an enemy so he can get a hit in(ironically though, Tien or even Krillin for that matter, DOESN'T have Solar Flare)In his SSJ mode, he could use Instantaneous Movement to teleport safely behind an enemy and avoid their attack, leaving them open to a crushing blow.Fighting is fast paced and occurs on land, in the air, or even underwater.(apparently everybody can hold their breaths really well).The main mode retells most of the stories, as well as a few movies and some of DB and DBGT.There's also some extra fighting modes, as well as an improved customization menu that even lets you help unlock more characters.There's also some pretty neat character pages for every person you've unlocked, which provides history and attack info and even lists who does who's voice for both the English and Japanese versions.In appearance it seems like the perfect DBZ game... all is not well, however, as there are also quite a few negatives.
First, the controls are very poor.Yes, you heard me.It doesn't matter whether you know what the buttons do or not.They are horribly jerky and unresponsive even after you finally understand how to perform each move.For an example, when I press left, my fighter should go left, NOT STRAIGHT TOWARDS THE ENEMY!The music is also annoying.It's the same stuff we've been hearing since Budokai 1 three years ago... shouldn't we at least get a few new tracks?Story mode's cutscenes are also pretty dull, they're similar to the ones in B1 where two characters would chat right before the battle... unlike B1 though, it doesn't have extra scenes that attempt to copy the anime series.
All in all, DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi is a very mixed bag.Some parts are great, but a few areas could be improved upon.I'd honestly suggest renting first in case you don't like it, because some may be disappointed, especially if they are expecting this to be "Budokai 4."Still, for me at least the positives outweigh the negatives.I'll be playing this for quite some timie, even with more big hits coming out soon.
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One Review
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
The console version of Call of Duty 2 entitled Call of Duty: The Big Red One is simply just not up to the standards of its PC cousin.
The best parts of the game occur in the new North Africa campaign. This is largely unexplored territory for video games and Call of Duty The Big Red One does a good job of giving you a view of what the North African campaign might have been like for the Big Red One. The campaign through Italy is also unexplored territory and these missions are quite fun, particularly the beach landing mission. The game also gives you the opportunity to control several different vehicles in the game, from a tank to a machine gun on a jeep to an anti-aircraft gun. This is a fun respite from just being a GI and gunning down Nazis.
However, the drawbacks outweigh the positives in this game and make it just mediocre. The game overall is too scripted. Unlike the PC version, this game has objectives you must complete in order because they're only given to you one at a time. The levels are also not very wide open, there are several paths you could take to complete a mission that are cut off to you by invisable walls. This is quite irritating, especially since there are tons of PS2 games out there now that don't force you into one path or one objective at a time.
Even the enemy AI is scripted too much. There were occasions I ran into rooms only to have the enemy inside not react. Other occasions I had to run to a door in order for the next section of a mission to start and the Nazis to open the door and pour out. This smacks of gameplay of a couple years ago.
One of my biggest gripes is that this game just is too short. They didn't bother continuing the game with the Big Red One's assault into Germany or its role in repelling the Nazi offensive in the Ardennes, one of the Big Red One's biggest successes in the war. This gives the game just a feeling of incompleteness. If they aimed to tell the story of the Big Red One during the war they should have told the complete story, not just half.
Overall, this game isn't a step forward for WW2 console games. It's got the same tired problems those of us that have grown tired of the Medal of Honor series have experienced for years. Unfortunately the advances made in its PC cousin do not appear here at all and make this just an ok game.
