This game is great if you like racing and blood and gore.In this game you can either use a controler,or the keyboard. There are 3 way of completing a level(each set is called a group)by killing all peds.,wasting all the cars,or going through all the check points(or lap)a certent amount of times. You have a lot of cars and when you get the right amount of credits you can the one you want, but only if you find it in the race your racing. You nave boxs and a type of barrel filled with either a power-up or something that happens to your car, peds.,or your oppenets. The red box has something to do with the people running around that you hit(be sure to get drunk peds. cause thats the funnest). The barrels have to do with your car.I don't know how many levels there are since I haven't completed it.You should try it.

Real War: Rogue States Review

Real War: Rogue States
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Real War enthusiasts will enjoy the latest in the series Rogue States, a Real War upgrade offering logic improvments and new weaponary on both sides. One caveat on this review is that I am basing it on only several "skirmish" episodes and not using online play or running any campaign scenarios
What is there to like...the new weapons, improved graphics, pre-orders for units being built, advanced defense logic for units, movement and attack logic are a definite improvment. All of these make Rogue States a good buy if you want to upgrade from Real War.
What still needs improvment...the movment logic is still a bit off...I tried to send a convoy of tanks at a target and half of them ended up getting stuck trying to cross a river. This has improved quite a bit, this should continue to be improved.I also would like to see Rogue states better integrated with the old Real War...it would be cool to go back and run the old campaign with new weapons. As far as I know this isn't the case.Lastly, there are still issues with forces causing extensive collateral damage...the new weapons are quite effective at takibng out most of your own forces as well as the enemies...I wish there was a bit better intelligence here to prevent this from happening on such a wide scale
What is bad...I am all for new weapons but the ILA (terrorist
group) but the use of experimental weapons gives them a big advantage.A laser cannon that liquidates ground forces instantly seems a bit unfair and unrealistic. The notion of this weapon having a weakness that can be exploited doen't appear obvious in this case. The U.S. doesn't appear to have a similar weapon that is that deadly. The fact that this weapon is super accurate makes ground attacks very frustrating.Combine the Rail Gun with the Super Cannon and Fixed GTA and the ILA base is pretty much impossible to assault...or shall I say your little skirmish you thought would only last 45 minutes will take 4-5 hours of game time.
Those things aside, I would say Rogue States is worth the price. The new weaponary and improved logic will give Real War addics a new opportunity to develop their tactics.Keep in mind too that ReaL War is NOT a pre-requisite for installing Rogue States.

Command & Conquer 3 Deluxe Edition Review

Command & Conquer 3 Deluxe Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well what can I say, this game is excellent.Like all of the Command and Conquer games, the campaign mode, for all three factions, is fun and addictive. The skirmish mode allows you to extend the life of the game beyond the campaigns, but if you are like myself, you will find yourself wanting to download more maps to make things more interesting.I was very impressed with the risk like, campaign map on the Kane's Wrath add on.The only downside I can think of for this game, is the difficulty in creating ones own maps and editing the game stats. The world builder program is difficult to use, compared to the map editors available for previous C&C titles.Overall the game play is excellent, the graphics are amazing and the campaign mode on it's own, with the all star cast, makes the game well worth the money.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 2: Triple Thrill Pack Review

Rollercoaster Tycoon 2: Triple Thrill Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 - Triple Thrill Pack" finally delivers the RCT2 I wanted. It not only lets you simulate building amusement parks, complete with rides, food & drink stalls, and other attractions, but this pack includes a huge number of different coasters and examples of each type, and also allows you to try to build your own coasters. There are many other types of amusement park rides, including log flumes and water slides, merry-go-rounds and ferris wheels, go kart race tracks and car rides, and many others. There are also over a dozen scenarios ranging from fairly easy to fairly difficult. The fact that all the scenarios are accessible from the beginning of the game is a big plus.

The replay value of this game is great. I find myself coming back to see if I can better my previous rating or ending park value, or both, or add something to my previous parks to make them more interesting. I know I've spent countless hours designing little tweaks to make my parks or rides "just right".

The primary program, "Roller Coaster Tycoon II," provides many good features that are a big improvement over RCT1, but the same graphics engine is used.I really like this sim game - probably more than any other game like it.If you like amusement parks and roller coasters, and you like games like "Civilization" and other simulations, you'll love Roller Coaster Tycoon 2.

"Wacky Worlds" adds a lot of scenery like the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal, the Eiffel Tower and many others to make your park a true international experience. There are over 20 new scenarios, 50 new ride types (not all of which will be coasters), and about a total of 250 new game elements. But the total of the new elements in "Wacky Worlds" wasn't worth the price of admission all by itself.

"Time Twister" adds even more great rides and some really wonderful scenarios to the overall mix. There's a few for every age - from the Medieval to the present and beyond. There's also a few new rides and attractions."Time Twister" also suffered from not having nearly enough material to satisfy RCT fans by itself.

But now you can Triple your fun with this all in one pack.Amazon.Com doesn't have half stars, so I can't give this game the 4 1/2 stars it deserves, but I'm sure if you've found previous games in the series interesting. you'll love tripling your fun!

If you've never tried Roller Coaster Tycoon, and you like amusement parks, you'll love the ability to design and build your own amusement park. RCT2 gives you almost everything that the old game had. But if you've already tried RCT1 you may find that this game just isn't different enough from the original, even though it includes the new scenario designer and other new features. The graphics haven't been updated much at all - and the graphics were already a little dated in RCT1.

But if you =really= want the =complete= pack, do an Internet search for "RCT2 User Created Expansion Set" and download that. You will be highly surprised at the many new features, rides and other things that fan-created expansion does for this game.

Now that my predictions have come to pass and everything is available for RCT2, I very highly recommend this purchase over any of the other stand alone sets, including the incomplete "Combo Pack".But if you already =love= RCT2, then just wait a few weeks - Chris Sawyer and Atari are rolling out RCT3 - which finally has a 3D feel and a coaster cam! If you've never tried to build your own amusement park, and had a secret yen to try it, then RCT2 is a great game. Watch out Disney World - here comes Roller Coaster Tycoon 2!

F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon Review

F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
FEAR is one of the best FPSs I have played in a while on any system. To start, the game play in FEAR is fast, furious, and most importantly fun.FEAR is an extremely fast paced game. There is constant stream of surprisingly intelligent enemies putting up their best efforts to kill you.And if it was not for the extremely useful slo-mo feature, they would succeed much more often than not.Slo-mo may seem so 1999 but the fact still remains that it is freakin cool in this game.Slow motion enables the player to move at roughly 2x the speed of the enemies, thus gaining an extremely useful edge in combat, or even retreat.

Also in you arsenal are a series of perfectly designed weapons.Every single weapon has its place throughout the game; all the way from the pistol to the rocket launcher. This is not DOOM where you start at the guns with the highest number on the number pad.Every weapon is balanced perfectly and has positives and negatives so there is no super weapon. And following along with the somewhat realist aspect of Halo the player can only hold 3 guns plus an assortment of grenades (proximity, frag, and remote).

Also HALO like is the close quarters combat. The player can bludgeon with the but of a weapon, do a spin attack, a jump attack and a diving attack. All of these attacks so some significant damage. However these moves are more suited towards multiplayer combat as opposed to single player where the tactics are more suited towards staying back and picking the enemies off.

FEAR is also one freaky game. And this is coming from one who sees horror movies and haunted houses as more as jokes. There were multiple times i just went oh @&^$! and jittered a bit.The horror aspects in this game are superbly implemented both through freighting visuals and terrifying audio.

Now to FEARs weakest point: level design. This is where the FEAR team should have taken some lessons from the beautifully laid out corridors of Half Life 2. The levels in FEAR just seem so bland and repetitive.I see the same objects, color palette, and walls all throughout the game (the parking garage segment is a welcome exclusion though).Where the masterfully designed levels of Half Life seem like living and breathing places with realistically places objects, FEAR just seems like a concrete maze with some computers and windows thrown in for good measure. The levels in FEAR just do not seem real.I the middle of a underground bunker there is placed a lone cubicle with a phone and a computer. (???) This seems so fake.Another game that exemplifies excellent level design is SWAT4.There are random, everyday objects placed throughout the levels to make them seem more real; magazines, soda can, papers, all kinds of everyday stuff that goes unnoticed.

Now on to the beautiful, but taxing graphics of FEAR.This is one good looking game, if you have the right system.Yeah, you can run this game on low setting, but it looks horrible.Even on my GeForce 6800 Ultra I can usually only run safely on medium settings. And the time demo used to test settings is completely inaccurate compared to real game play. But with everything turned on high this game looks STUNNING.However, for most it will be a stunning slide show on the majority of computers.

The multiplayer composed of FEAR is a nice addition, but is not the main focus of the game.Once again the poor level design comes into play here and on most maps is seems as if you are a bunch of rats fighting in a maze. The map featured in the multi player demo is one of my favorite maps due to its uniqueness. The slow motion in multiplayer is also integrated very nicely with one person, or team holding the slow motion activator that slowly recharges.

Overall, download both the single and multi player FEAR demos to get a taste of what to expect. In general the full game follows the demo experience pretty closely (the full game is hella more scary though and even has some performance enhancements) FEAR is not a HALO or Half Life 2 killer but it is pretty close up there,it is defiantly a game worth buying. The Directors edition even has some insightful extras. It some good stuff.Just go get it.

Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga Review

Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're a fan of older RPGs, you'll likely love this game. The combat and loot are reminiscent of Diablo, where you've got a set of skills and mash the mouse button to attack, while collecting all sorts of ridiculously named equipment. The roleplaying is menu-based like traditional RPGs, and the writing is absolutely excellent--not to mention that for a small cost, you can mindread any NPC to gain new insights, quest information, or just to find out how terrible a day they're having.

The sense of exploration is absolutely excellent, and you could spend 30 hours beating the game and still only have seen half of the content there is to offer.Almost everywhere you go, there's something special to do--the one exception is the Flying Fortresses, but thanks to the redesign that the campaign got in DKS, you can fly right past the boring areas.

The setting is very strongly fantasy, unlike the more muted and serious settings that are prevalent in recent games, and despite this, it never really becomes cliche or boring. The writers manage to create a magical world that doesn't feel like the exact same world we've seen again and again. The quests are well-designed, and some of the puzzles are actually truly challenging.Topping all this off is a strong, witty sense of humor.

If you think that writing and exploration are paramount to an RPG, you'll likely love Divinity 2.

Dino Crisis 2 Review

Dino Crisis 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The original Dino Crisis was a relatively fun game.Basically Resident Evil with dinosaurs. This sequel hit a stride for the series with more original gameplay. The player can purchase weapon upgrades, and has effectively almost unlimited ammo, making for a much more action heavy experience than the Resident Evil games, while still retaining the "adventure" feel of that series. The graphics were noticeably upgraded too, although they're not going to be a technical marvel by 2005 standards.

It's basically Jurasic Park, done as an action/adventure/survival horror game by Capcom...which is a very good thing.

You'll want a decent control pad (like Logitech or Microsoft) to play this PC version.

Fallout 3 Review

Fallout 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Fallout 3 only appears to use the disc validation aspects of SecuROM 7.36.0006. I used System Mechanic to perform some "before and after" system scans to ensure nothing sinister was happening with the install. All I could find was the usual license and CD / DVD entries in the Registry. There were no activations or installation hiccups. The installation does take quite some time though, so I advise people to de-clutter and defrag before they install.

I don't want to issue any spoilers, but what I will say is that the graphics are revolutionary! The world feels very immersing and the character interactions are very realistic. The controls are very similar to Oblivion too, so it wasn't hard to dive in. The game is very, very polished and when you exit Vault 101 for the first time, the scenery that greets you is astounding! You can see objects in full clarity right out to the horizon and the environment looks very much like a post-apocalyptic wasteland, albeit under a very gray palette. I maxed out the in-game detail settings and my single slot GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB handled it perfectly. This is first class!

My biggest gripe with DRM is limited activations, which also infer spying on your machine. This game does indeed use the "evil" SecuROM, but it's just the usual SecuROM disc-checking that we have in tonnes of games prior to this. There are NO LIMITED ACTIVATIONS. I'm a big anti-DRM person, just look at my posts for Spore, but this, in my opinion, is an acceptable use of DRM and I recommend people get the game.

The Sims 2: Mansion & Garden Stuff Review

The Sims 2: Mansion & Garden Stuff
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I still believe the stuff packs are overpriced for the amount of stuff they offer. $12-15 would probably be a fairer price. So if you happen to find a sale, definitely go for it.

Mansion & Gardens Stuff is by far the best stuff pack EA has offered. The three decorating styles; Second Empire, Moroccan, & Art Deco, are lovely. The flowers are shrubs are beautiful, a welcome addition to landscaping. I like how the windmill & solar panels will lower the sim's bills. The ceiling fans are a decorative object, but they do actually move so it's a nice realistic touch. I haven't noticed that they affect the temperature of the sims so they are probably merely decorative.

I love the Mansard roof pieces. It makes it so much easier to have attic space that my sims can live in without being affected by the weather. I've had issues in the past of them freezing or getting heat stroke if I had bedrooms in the attic with certain types of roofs.

Knock on wood, I haven't noticed any major glitches with Mansions & Gardens. What a relief. The grand staircases are very nice, but they sure do take up a lot of space. Your sims will autonomously slide down the banister. Usually we do not get any new interactions with stuff packs, so this was a nice surprise. Our sims can smell the flowers too.

The only thing I didn't care for is that some of the new siding is too dark and there's only a few selections. I'm not really fond of the screaming bright yellow. I wish they would have added some of the previous siding colors we've had with the new corner trim. EA could have made this a real expansion pack with more items and options and I would have been over the moon.

I'd consider this stuff pack a must for Sims 2 players.

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point Review

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Where to start, I was expecting much from the addon to the great game FEAR. Instead you get little. They reused much of the same textures, dark area's, and characters from the original.

No new characters to speak off,non exsistent story line even weaker thanthe first. You will have a hard time finding much new here.

The game is far too short, you can finish in about 3-5 hours, and its too easy, even on the hardest setting.Ohh and to top it off it adds nothing to multiplayer at all, no new levels, characters or weapons, not even a new mode.

If you never bought the original, you can have the multiplayer for free! Truly there is no reason to pick this up at all.The game is still fun in the way the first game was fun, but feels less like an expansion and more like the last few levels they left out of the game :(.

Not worth 30 dollars in anyway shape or form. Best to wait and buy in the bargin bin for 10 dollars or less. In other words don't support developers who put this kind of "stuff" out at almost full game price, its a rippoff at best.

We need to Show big companies Like EA, Activision, and Vivendi that its not alright to rip us off, the only thing they understand is not buying their products. I finished this the first night I bought it in 3.5 hours of none too exciting gameplay. Then you can uninstall and use as a coaster, an expensive coaster.

The Sims 2: Teen Style Stuff Review

The Sims 2: Teen Style Stuff
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With reviews of stuff packs you often see multiple complaints regarding the amount of content versus the price. This is easily arguable and when comparing the amount of content in an expansion pack versus a stuff pack and then the price comparison you are indeed better off buying the expansions. BUT, sometimes you are in the market for something in particular. Yes, there are many custom content creators out there who can rival EA for quality and value, but not everyone is comfortable downloading custom content and others prefer knowing the content they get is going to be completely game compatible. That is when stuff packs are the most useful.

All that said... Teen Style Stuff is my first stuff pack purchase. I've been interested in other stuff packs but the price has made them not essential to my gaming experience. The gothic furniture was my main interest but the socialite and sporty styles were also a draw. With Teen Style Stuff the pack does stress the teenaged sims.

There are new full body outfits for teen males and females, new pajamas and work-out wear for girls and work-out wear for boys. A handful of new hairstyles, which include styles with visors and trucker hats. These visor and hat styles do match with the outfits for the teens. In addition to these there are items for practical use such as beds, end tables, chairs, lamps, a tv, a radio and a computer. You'll also get a lot of decorative items including a 'rug' that looks like a clothes strewn on the floor. Lastly, there are wallpapers and floors to match it all. (For screenshots and pictures of the items mentioned you can check EA's The Sims 2 website or google for them).

After loading this stuff pack up into my game I sat down and played with the available items, including making new teen sims with the hairstyles and clothing. The clothing choices I very much liked though they were pretty much color variations on the same small handful of styles (but that's how it is with the game anyway). The hairstyles didn't thrill me really, but the hat options were fitting with current trends. As far as the items go, I had fun creating a couple of bedrooms with them and I liked that while there were three different styles most items could be mixed around between them to some extent. The only things I wasn't really impressed with were the flooring options. The carpets did not match very well with the wallpapers in my opinion.

Overall, I am very pleased with this stuff pack. I was able to purchase mine for the $15.99 price here on Amazon which is a bit better of a price than the $19.99. If you know what you're getting the price shouldn't be a deterant. I chose this pack because I felt it had the most items I would actually enjoy and make use of, and it is just what I was hoping it would be. This might be Teen Style Stuff but the decorative items and practical items would be perfect for children and even dorm rooms if you have the University expansion. This is not the stuff pack for you if you do not play many child, teen or young adult sims.

Kings Bounty: The Legend Review

Kings Bounty: The Legend
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
King's Bounty is the best turn based strategy game since X-Com came out in 1993.

It works on XP and Vista 32-bit.
There may be problems with Vista 64-bit.

Concept:
King's bounty is a great mix of turn based strategy, adventure, and RPG elements. You explore a world and find items to increase your stats and gather troops for your army.If you encounter enemies, you battle them in turn based combat. You can also cast spells during the battle to heal your troops, increase their stats, weaken enemies, or alter the battleground.

Heroes
You can choose one of 3 Hero types (Warrior, Paladin, Mage) and customize them through a skill tree or equipping items.Your class, skills, stats and items affect the army that you control.
Warriors have more troops and weak magic skills.Paladins are balanced.Mages have the fewest troops but can cast the most powerful spells during the battles.
Attack - Increases the damage that your troops dish out.
Defense - Decreases the damage that your troops take.
Intellect - Increases the power of your spells.
Leadership - Increases the amount of troops you can have in a battle.
Gold - Allows you to buy new troops and items.
Runes - Allow you to buy skills on your skill tree.

Your Army
There are over 90 different types of creatures you can have in your army.
Tanks - knights, giants, dwarves...
Ranged - archers, elves, beholders...
Infantry - soldiers, snakes, spiders, pirates...
Spellcasting - priests, mages, inquisitors...
Special - werewolves, vampires, ghosts...

So, why is this game so great?
You're constantly being rewarded for playing. It seems like every 10 steps, you're getting gold, runes, new units, and leadership banners.New enemies constantly appear and change the strategy of the battles. The game never feels stale. You're always learning new spells and trying to exploit the enemies' weaknesses.

Just when you think you've got the game mastered, you gain access to new lands, new enemies, new spells, and new units.

There are tons of optional side quests, too.If you complete them, you get gold, experience, or special items. You may even make a new alliance which adds new troops to your army.

The box says rated T for Teens, but this game is fun for everyone. The descriptors say:
Drug Reference - I never saw one, although pirates talked about rum.
Language - I didn't see any harsh language.
Mild Fantasy Violence - knight swings sword, hits monster, and a 25 appears above the monster. There's no blood or impaling.

What could be better about this game?
The story is good, but the writing on some of the quests is sub-par.One of my friends had trouble playing it on Vista, but he got it working.

The game is about 40-90 hours long, depending on how you play. It's a must buy if you like turn based strategy games, old school RPG's, or want to kill time while you're waiting for Diablo III.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 Review

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2

(More customer reviews)
After many of the 'Tycoon' style games that have been popular over the last few years, the reigning king was a simple family style game called Roller Coaster Tycoon. After two successful expansion packs, developer Chris Sawyer waited well over a year to launch Rollercoaster Tycoon 2.The sequel is based on a no brainer..."Build it and they will come".Seeing that the first game and its expansions still sell well, Infogrames already has a large base of built in fans looking for more of the same, but will these fans love '2', and will this attract new fans?Time will tell.
Overall, the look and feel of the game remains relatively the same.A 3D isometric overhead view allows players to build a theme park from scratch and carry it through pre-defined scenarios. These scenarios have conditions such as have a park rating of X by year Y or have X guests by year Y or build N coasters of type T with an excitement factor of X.
The game ships with about 25 scenarios that are grouped in categories of difficulty: easy, advanced, expert, and Real Parks. The website RollercoasterTyccon2.com promises to have future downloadable scenarios, and one major enhancement over the original game is the inclusion of a scenario editor.Players can now create their own parks/games and trade among friends. You can control all variables from size of park, weather, rides available for research and more.
The 'Real Parks' are actual Six Flag parks from around the world that are pretty close to real world counterparts. You can choose to just manage them or alter them at will.
Game enhancements:
1) Park sizes can be double that of the original game and it supports a much higher screen resolution rate.
2) Scenery: All the original scenery from the RCT and its expansions are present as well as new ones including: Pirate, Scary, Medieval, Gears, Wild West, Giant Gardens and more. There are also more fences, water themes, roofs and walls and the ability to stack scenery makes it much easier to create buildings.
3) New rides: Well obviously there are more coasters but also other attractions as well on top of all the originals.
4) Coaster and ride options: There seems to be much more customizations available for coasters including new car types, special banks, queue line options, supports, signs & banners, special track types and more.
5) New shops and stalls: Again, all the originals and more including sun glass hut, ATM's, First Aid station, more food choices.
6) More music options. Many more styles of music can accompany your rides.
7) Coaster construction: Tool here has been revamped and now you can make/test/save/see coasters better than ever.
Now not everything is perfect in this game:
1) Graphics: Even though the screen resolution and park size has increased, the view is still the same as is the graphics engine. While there is more 'eye-candy' per-se, the overall look is still cartoony and has some 'jaggy' issues. Not to mention that hills, waters, mountains still look slightly un-natural as it did in the original.
2) Lack of scenarios that ship. There are only 3 easy scenarios, a handful of advanced, and more expert. This may prove complex for players who never had the first.Hopefully new ones will be available from the official website soon.
3) No major innovations in game play.I'd like to see new objectives, or disasters to overcome, or new behaviors of park guests, mechanics, handymen, mascots...still the same.
The largest adjustment fans of the original will have to make is getting use to the new construction and customization tools. While they have been expanded (a large plus), they have also taken on new 'handling' characteristics which is proving somewhat confusing for me.For old players, it's retraining how to this new interface and sub-menus...lacking in the 1st game. While this new interface does seem to be much more rich and deep, I truly found it wasn't as intuitive as the RCT 1.I was looking for information that seemed to be present in the 1st game easily, now I have to dig to sub-menus I'm not familiar with.
These were some of the reasons I chose o give it 4 stars instead of 5.Something's are just better off simple, not overly complex.

The Sims 2: Bon Voyage Review

The Sims 2: Bon Voyage
Average Reviews:

Two words:Bugs and SecuROM v7.

I'd have a lot more fun with this game if I was actually playing it.But as usual, this EP shipped with a bunch of gameplay bugs and also an ugly, potentially dangerous form of copy protection by Sony called SecuROM.

A Brief on Bugs:

- Game shipped w/a programming error that created Tour Guide after Tour Guide, unchecked.Too many character files in a sim 'hood means too many opportunities for them to corrupt and your 'hood to go boom.A third party fansite had a fix before EA did (like two WEEKS before EA did). The fansite fix didn't weigh in at a whopping 15 MB like the EA patch did either, considering the EA patch fixed very few things and another will be needed.Must be fun to download on dialup.
- One of the game's Twikii Island locations has an object issue that slows gameplay to an excruciating crawl.A prebuilt lodge in the woodsy vacation hood has no grill or phones, so sims can't cook or order room service and must leave to eat.A secret location in the Twikii hood is so poorly constructed it grinds the game to a halt.Stuff like this should've been caught in testing...BAHAHA!Like they test this game, ugh.Poor devs.I do believe they want to make a great game, but the time constraints put on them by EA management makes them churn out bugfest after bugfest.
- Funky installation errors told some people that they had to uninstall previous EPs to install BV, so they followed that advice and TADA!Doing so wiped out their entire saved games folder.Sure, you should always back up before installation, but that shouldn't happening in the first place.
- This EP has a new 'feature' called the Launcher, which will connect to the internet to inform you of patches or other EA spam before you get to play. Many people, myself included, found that 1) this game takes long enough to get running, extending the misery for spam isn't appreciated and 2) bypassing the Launcher via running directly from the SP6.exe made for much smoother gameplay, possibly because the game isn't still trying to connect to the web. *shrug*I don't know, but it did make a difference for me; the game was hitching and lagging the few times I used the Launcher, but was much smoother when I bypassed it and yanked my wireless router cord out of my computer when I played.EA denies the game 'phones home', but denial is their standard fallback position, and it might have more to do with the ugly new noose they've decided to put around our necks w/this EP...

Say 'No' to SecuROM:

SecuROM is Digital Rights Management (DRM) or copy protection software. EA doesn't want you copying the games you buy from them.'Kay. *cough*violatesFairUseAct*cough*But SecuROM v7 is DESIGNED to disable software, like CD/DVD burner drivers or emulation software, that it thinks might be used for 'pirating'.DaemonTools, Alcohol 120, and the like.

Oh, and factory installed versions of Nero and Roxio too...?

Yes.Seems the version of Securom shipped w/BV wasn't updated enough; anything it doesn't recognize as kosher gets shut down, so if you've got a newer comp, it could very well affect you most of all.It doesn't happen to everyone, but that it's happening at all is unconscionable.Because of a game, some people are having drives REPLACED because they don't know about Securom's effects, reformatting their computers, finding their antivirus settings altered, and in the biggest of ironies, some are searching the web for ways to strip their comps of Securom and use a NoCD cracked .exe to run their purchased games, as they cannot otherwise.

Securom is PIMPING piracy!More simmers than ever are now aware of how to go about it, out of fear of what Securom might do or has done to their own or other people's comps.

In the US, none of the boxes came with any warning whatsoever that the DRM used might cause these kinds of issues. If you install BV, Securom installs with it, andthe 'removal' tool from Sony EA was forced to post on the official site (after being harangued into investigating several weeks after BV's release) DOES NOT fully remove Securom from your comp. You're stuck with it, and due to it's very rootkit like behavior, it is a total bear to completely remove.Once you or a tech remove it, w/the Sony tool or otherwise, you cannot play the game you paid for.And problems Securom can create with driver software may or may NOT go away when you remove it, either.

BV has been out 3 months and EA has still not addressed this very serious issue in any satisfactory way.In fact, EA is blithely sticking with Securom for all its future games (it's in a lot of them already).People are contacting the FTC, states attorney generals, and the BBB about this issue.

Some who aren't suffering make light of it, blame people's comps, or call others hysterics, but when something that came unannounced with a game starts dictating what you can or cannot do with your comp outside of the game, it's not hysteria, it's major. It's affecting PAYING CUSTOMERS, people who gladly pay for every title they play and would never condone nor be involved with software piracy, and worst of all - Securom is a total failure as copy protection.NoCD cracks (ie. Securom-less game .exes) were available within 24 hrs of the game's release.

Anyone can understand a publisher's need to protect their product, but not at the expense of people's personal property, time, money, aggravation, livelihoods, etc.If this is the wave of the future, I want no part of it - we own our computers, not EA or Sony.

***If you are responsible for the welfare of your comp, you need to seriously evaluate the possible damaging consequences of installing this EP or any other game that uses such invasive and possibly debilitating copy protection software.***

EA has a Securom board on their official TS2 site, look it over, draw your own conclusions.

Check out the Bioshock, Neverwinter Nights 2, Command and Conquer, and Supreme Commander game boards too. It's not just BV that has these issues; those games all use Securom too and have similar problems.

Do I have anything nice to say about BV?The water's pretty, and walking to lots is cool. But my simming buzz is pretty dead right now from game bugs - and worrying about the future of my computer's functionality if I decide to upgrade a component or add a peripheral that Securom decides it doesn't like.

I wish I'd never installed it.

*Edited, as time marches on.Please see comments for updates.

Sid Meier's Civilization III Complete Review

Sid Meier's Civilization III Complete
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Civilization 3 is a great game but it's not for everyone. It is akin to chess and Risk but much more complex than either. If developing a civilization from a single tribe to a modern superpower sounds like your cup of tea then you should already have this game. You manage all aspects of your chosen civilization: War, diplomacy, trade, etc... .This is a turn based game, slow paced and not action oriented. If your looking for great graphics this is not your game. I think an active imagination is essential to the enjoyment of this and maybe a fondness for history. Patience and much thought must be put into playing this and some people don't enjoy that for entertainment. Understandably I suppose.
Personally this is my favorite game ever. If I could only take one game with me into eternity this would be the one. The replay-ability on this game is phenomenal. I have been playing it regularly since it was first released. For me thats its greatest strength. In this age of jaded video gamers (including me) its truly something for a game to remain so intriguing no matter how many timesyou've played it. There is so much dept its staggering. However, most of that dept is below the surface and isn't really needed until you start playing on Emperor difficulty or above. After 3 years of playing this I am still learning new things.
One aspect of Civilization that you should be aware of is the modifications people have made for it online. This extends the replay value even more so. The Warhammer mod for this game is excellent. If you want a fantasy setting with elves and dragons etc..The Rise and Rule mod makes this epic game all the more so by adding hundreds of new technologies and units. There are far to many good mods to address here. Seriously, the mods change Civilization 3 into different games practically. If you have Civilization and haven't taken advantage of the mods your missing out. They can be found at thebest gaming community I've ever had the pleasure to lurk upon: The aptly named www.civfanatics.com. Along with strategies and game analysis.

Star Wars Empire At War Gold Pack Review

Star Wars Empire At War Gold Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I like Star Wars as well as your average 30-something red-blooded American male, but I am by no means a fanboy; in fact, I have found that most Star Wars related games in the past decade are kind of 'meh'. With that said, I loved the original Empires at War, it was a great game thatcombined a strategic game of planet conquering with two types of RTS games in which you fought for control of planets on land and in space - it didn't rest on the Star Wars Franchise to please the user, the Star Wars heroes, vehicles, and troops are just an added bonus. User created mods are freely available on the net, and that expands replayability immensely. I pulled it off the shelf the other day to find some of the new mods use the expansion - the original expansion no longer seems to be available from Amazon, but the gold package has both the original and expansion. The original was a great twist on the basic RTS style of game, and one of my favorites, gameplay-wise. Eye candy isn't as good as more modern titles, but gameplay has held up well. IMHO, the original game is still worth the price, and I'm sure the expansion just sweetens the pot.

Note that their cover art for this product is for the original game, not the gold edition; I was waffling on whether to buy it until I saw the customer pic, as it didn't seem the gold edition had the expansion and there is no mention of it in the product description. Per Lucasart's website, the gold edition does indeed have the Forces of Corruption expansion included (and looks like the second picture in the gallery). Thanks to 'JJAV' for the clarifying customer pic.
