Jay Jay Earns His Wings Review

Jay Jay Earns His Wings
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Jay Jay is one of my almost-3-year-old son's favorite TV characters. My son is fascinated with basic math right now. When I found that it taught simple math addition and measurement, etc., I decided to pick it up right away. After we ran it on my son's computer, we were pleasantly surprised by the vivid animation and the quality of the games it offerred. Usually the drawings of the characters in a computer do not look as good as what you would see on TV, but this one is just as good. It even plays the theme song in the beginning. BUY THIS ONE!! Your kids will learn a lot from it, even though he may think he is just playing an interesting computer game.

Dr. Seuss' ABC Review

Dr. Seuss' ABC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a classic, the best software/game I know of for little kids. Reading skills aren't necessary -- provided the child can use a mouse or trackpad to point and click, s/he'll have weeks or months of fun with this. This game has been around for a while, and the graphics aren't up to modern standards, but they still capture the spirit of Dr. Seuss's drawings perfectly. The creators did the impossible and extrapolated from the contents of the book to add a huge amount of new content, which matches perfectly and is just as silly and hilarious as Seuss's original work.

We've had this since 1996 or so, and both of my kids grew up with it. Many of the jokes and songs in this have become part of my family's store of in-jokes, just as with any treasured children's book. I can't think of a higher recommendation.

I really can't say enough good things about this computer program. The one problem is that you have to find things to do while they are doing this game all by themselves. Imagine that you can actually get stuff done.My son has watched me on the computer since day one.I finally decided to get him his own game.I figured I would be stuck sitting with him at the computer.this is not the case.He just turned three and he asked," can I tr?".Well that was it.He can move the mouse and to do games on the cd he know to ask me to change to another cd.the activities can grow with him in difficulty. He actually played the airport game for an hour.He changed between the different activites himself. They are very kid friendly. Also the giggles that come from the computer room are worth it alone. He really seems to enjoy it and he is learning while he is laughing.I stongly suggest this cd rom.I plan to purchase it for all my nieces and nephews for the holidays.Enjoy!!

Pajama Sam: No Need To Hide When It's Dark Outside Review

Pajama Sam: No Need To Hide When It's Dark Outside
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm not sure what age this is actually recommended for, but it's been fun and challenging for a 7 yr old, fun (but not completeable without help) for a 5 yr old, and inexpensive entertainment for a 2.5 yr old (who loves some of the mini games).I think one of the best features is that it changes whenever you start a *new* game. You can save the old ones and pick up where you left off, but if you start a new game, your challenges will change, as will some of the characters you meet.Since the basic plot is Pajama Sam wandering around the land of darkness looking for his Pajama Man lunchbox, mask, and flashlight so that he can confront darkness, the general map stays the same, but the specifics vary.Sometimes a carrot freedom fighter has the mask and you have to help liberate his fellow carrots before he'll give it back to you.And sometimes you have to find paddles for your boat, or cogs for a gear -- you get the idea. The downside for a parent is that you don't automatically know where everything is and how to get it, even if you've played it through yourself. The upside in the game is that you will occasionally be given hints like, "if only I had something that floated".And some of the mini-games are fun -- all the kids love mixing up potions in the laboratory.
On the whole, this game is light hearted with a good sense of humor and fairly entertaining. The problems aren't *usually* very difficult, though I have run across a few that are fairly involved and may require parental hints for younger kids.I just wish it ran native on OS X, istead of requiring 9.Not a big thing, just a little annoying.

With help from King the mine car, Otto the boat, and a host of fascinating characters, Pajama Sam soon finds that things aren't quite what they seem in the incredible Land of Darkness.
Join this enchanting cast of characters as they travel through a mine, a gigantic tree house, through underground volcanoes, and into an underground stream in search of items confiscated by custom inspectors in this exciting world. Kids learn critical thinking, listening, and memory skills while finding out that darkness is not as bad as it seems.

Blue's Reading Time Activities Review

Blue's Reading Time Activities
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like all the "Blue's Clues" software products, this is a beautifully made, thoughtful program that teaches kids the fundamentals of learning. The best thing about this program is that it presents information in a way that younger kids understand and can enjoy, so that they don't get frustrated by their lack of success or progress. I've seen a lot of kids' CD-ROMs, and this is one of the best I've come across recently. You won't be disappointed; Blue is so adorable! The only bad thing is that you can't click out of Steve's song at the end.... You get pretty sick of hearing it if you play the game enough. But that's my only complaint. Great product.

Reader Rabbit Toddler Review

Reader Rabbit Toddler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We've tried Pooh Toddler, Little Bear, JumpStart and a handful of other toddler geared software and Reader Rabbit has been the favorite of both myself and my son. It's easy to skip the intros (which are short anyway) and get straight to the game; it works for a wide range of toddler skills; and it has activities appropriate to a toddler's attention span, namely short and colorful without being overly abrasive. Some of the games have more of a point than others ("can you find three matching animals?" vs. "pick a song!") but they can all be triggered by 1) point and click 2) mouse over or 3) random key pounding. This has been great for my son (who didn't get the whole mouse thing until he was 2 1/2) and means that no game is too advanced to key pound your way through. There are about eight different games on the main disc; you can pick a song to sing, match animal babies to their parents, place shapes to complete a picture, and match letter sounds to pictures -- among other things.I really like that a lot of the short tasks are rewarded with a *short* song and animation piece -- not great art, but not annoying, either. And my son loves them.
I will warn that the alphabet and the shape game can be frustrating if they accidently pick up a letter/shape on mouse over because it then has to be placed with the mouse -- random key pounding won't unstick it.Also, my son was prone to accidently bringing up the menu through key pounding and I'd have to come and fix it.
Finally, I've had the old and new versions of RR Toddler; the new one has a second disc which my son had zero interest in.On the main disc there are a few asthetic changes and a dreamship game in a completely different section, which my son loves but which has no real education value and is a little harder to access. On the good side, the new Reader Rabbit *seems* to run just fine on Mac OS X so I don't have to run 9 to get it to work.Hooray!(BTW, Little Bear Toddler has the same point and click/mouse over/random keys function, but I don't think it's as fun.The games that *require* mouse skills in toddlers have gotten shoved in the closet.)

Freddi Fish 5: The Case of the Creature of Coral Cove Review

Freddi Fish 5: The Case of the Creature of Coral Cove
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First things first: the suggested age range for all Freddi Fish games (3-8)is very misleading, no matter how smart you think that your 4 y.o. is. Everybody thinks that their very bright 4 y.o. should be able to enjoy the game- and if they don't, it's a problem with the game. The fact is that it takes until 5 / early 6 for both the spatial concepts & (esp.) the level of perserverence needed to get developed enough to enjoy the game. And then they enjoy it hugely. Our girls (now turning 6 & 7) enjoyed this Freddi hugely, as they have the others.

Pajama Sam Life is Rough for PC Review

Pajama Sam Life is Rough for PC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one of those where I would like to do half stars, 3.5. It does have the same sort of "find this, then that to fix the thing", but it's not as good as PJ Sam's previous adventures. Each time it's played, it's the same, no randomness. Sam's voice is different this time and the character is not as well done. The game seems to work better under WinXP than previous PJ Sam adventures that were Win9x/ME vintage.

My children (4 and 7) love playing ISPY.It keeps them busy for hours. This title is fun - you solve "riddles" and earn tickets to play games in the Fun House. One thing I particularly like is that the game is good for readers and non-readers alike. The riddles are written at the bottom of the screen, and children can click on words they don't know and the program will read them aloud. This sort of evens the playing field for my kids, and they enjoy playing together and separately.A great pick.
