Magic the Gathering Interactive Encyclopedia Review

Magic the Gathering Interactive Encyclopedia
Average Reviews:

As a magic player, I've found 3 huge features enormously beneficial to my game. They are: A) the Deckbuilder, that lets you build, analyze, and control decks to your heart's content. This deckbuilder is awesomely powerful, and contains every single feature I could think of -- it'samazing what they packed in here. B) the listing and viewing of everysingle card in the Encyclopedia section, that lets me just scroll throughcards and compare them to the "real" ones I have in front of meon my play-mat. The fact that everything -- even Mercadian Masques -- ishere, really kicks! And C) the Online Play section I think is doneperfectly, because it doesn't constrain your style of play -- you just goonline and get rocking with a friend. I really like the fact that they'verespected how people really play Magic, and I can play championship decksagainst other people, and I can play decks built from any cards ever made-- I don't have to worry about buying the card -- I can just build a deckand play it.This product is really incredible !

Pocahontas: Princess of the Powhatan Review

Pocahontas: Princess of the Powhatan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is mostly an "I Spy" type game with some other kinds of puzzles as well.It is moved forward by dialogue between historical characters. The graphics are nice.My kids age 8, 6, and 4 really enjoyed the free trial and are lobbying for me to buy it.

It is not historically accurate.Even in the limited dialogue, my kids were pointing out errors from our two week study of John Smith, Jamestown, and Pocahontas.

By googling the title of this game you can easily find a one hour free trial download to help you decide if you want to buy it.We probably will be doing so.

Neighbors from Hell Review

Neighbors from Hell
Average Reviews:

I got this game at EB Games thinking it was going to be awful.I started playing it, and I actually liked it!The basic idea is that you are on a reality TV show, where the goal is to make your neighbor as mad as possible. In order to do that, you play tricks on him - like drawing all over his mom's portrait with a black marker, cutting his favorite chair in half, switching out his hard candy with bath beads, etc. When he finds out, he gets super mad!And if you manage to pull several tricks in a row, you get extra points. If you get caught, he beats you up pretty bad. :D
The game runs well, I never had any issues when I was installing or playing it.The only thing I didn't like about the game is that I beat it about 2 1/2 hours. There are only about a dozen scenarios to do, and each has a timer of about 5 minutes. Also, I would have liked to see more variety in tricks - by the last few scenarios I knew every single trick and it was just a matter of strategizing on what order I wanted to pull them off in to get the maximum amount of points.
Overall - decent game, but way too short. :)

Farm Frenzy 3: Ice Age Review

Farm Frenzy 3: Ice Age
Average Reviews:

This game is lots of fun for all ages in our house (from 11 up).Plays well on the laptop and the eee - we were hesitant to try it with the smaller screen size of the eee, but it works well.Once you solve a level, you can try it again to improve your time.Only complaint is that we each managed to obtain all the upgrades of equipment about halfway through the game, which takes away some of the point of moving through the levels.Still, watching the penguins, walruses and mammoths on the screen is entertaining and this game is a great way to kick back for awhile.

Little Shop - Memories Review

Little Shop - Memories
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first Little Shop game, and they might all be like this and you might like this format. I prefer to use "relaxed mode" in my games, but I am ok with those that only have timed modes. But not this short a time!!!Yikes! They give you 5 minutes (not sure if that is real time, seemed faster) to find a LOT of well-hidden objects! I used all the hints available and could see that I was still going to run out of time before I came close to finishing (and I am actually pretty good at these games...) so that was the end of this game, deleted within a few minutes of starting. I've never seen a game that gave you such a short time to find items. If you like being rushed, you have had lots of caffeine and are a bit twitchy, go for it! If you are looking for fun, pass this one by.

Pure Hidden Review

Pure Hidden
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pure Hidden is an incredible potpourri of activities from a hidden object pop art collage of superman floating in a Las Vegas skyline, to a beautiful leafy scene full of diabolically hidden butterflies, to magnificent assemblies of Ukrainian eggs, to funny puzzles like connecting a series of water pipes, to creating your own artistic masterpiece with stencils and paints. Many of the mini-games are easy enough for kids but the hidden objects in cartoon like environments are incredibly hard to find ( 30 or more items) so a kid and an adult can play side by side with great mutual contentment and joy.

There is no plot, you are not breaking a wicked curse, chasing a villain or finding an absent-minded professor's glasses. Each completed level adds flowers and fruit to a graceful tree, which you build as you go along.

Pure Hidden is really one big activity box, highly original, visually stunning and just plain fun, even quirky, a gem for the young and young at heart!

Jewel Quest Mysteries 2: Trail of the Midnight Heart Review

Jewel Quest Mysteries 2: Trail of the Midnight Heart
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You are following the intrepid Eva as she explores steamy jungles, a gorgeous scene of the Taj Mahal, vine- choked exotic ruins, mysterious temples and much more in southwest Asia and in Australia -20 different beautifully created scenes in all. You are going to be kept busy not only looking for relics and the tools to dig them up with but searching for exotic jewels and gold coins, ways to increase your hint bank and your score.

The objects are very well hidden and you're going to need every hint you can get. The search areas are timed and if you click three times on the wrong thing, your time is lopped 30 seconds. If you can't find all those omelets, hot dogs, jukeboxes, tambourines and what-have-you before time is up, you have to play that whole level again. The objects themselves do not shift location, but perhaps one fault of the game is that you are required to return to the same scene too many times whether or not you are repeating a level.

Each environmental location contains a hummingbird bearing a shard, and when you`ve collected enough shards they'll form a board, and you'll play a match- three mini game. Every few levels you're treated to a nice HOG variation. In one of these, when gliding from left to right and while you're looking out a plane window, you're obliged to grab twenty feathers which are cleverly attached to clouds and mountains. You have to hustle a bit to do it.

There is plenty going on in this game and over all it's nicely put together. The art work is simply beautiful and combined with the wonderful Middle Eastern music you'll quickly be immersed in the adventure.

The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes Review

The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a fan of the Sherlok Holmes TV show and try to purchase any & all Holmes PC games. [The same for Agatha Christie.] The package consists of 16 books/stories [puzzles]. Each puzzle consists of dialog, searching for hidden objects and choosing the culprit. All 16 follow the SAME pattern. The puzzles are also timed [~30 min.] As expected there is an increase in "difficulty" as you progress. I do not know if the story line really helps in solving the mystery for I usually skip it to stay with the hunt.
the mechanics of the game(s) are well done. The puzzle REPETITION is truly the limiting factor for a this game.

The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road Review

The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Wizard of Oz is a beautiful, lighthearted, and fresh RPG for the DS--and it's a game that I believe both RPG newbies and veterans can enjoy. The game starts much like the original book/movie.Dorothy and Toto have been sucked up into a tornado and dumped in a new land. They travel the Yellow Brick Road, picking up the Strawman, the Cowardly Lion, and the Tin Man along the way, as they travel toward Oz.Once they get to Oz, the premise diverges from the original tale, as Dorothy and the gang are entreated to travel the land and gather all of the magical eggs in various witches' kingdoms, so that Oz can be the ruler of the kingdom. And so a series of quests begins and the real story of this game begins to unfold...

The gameplay in Oz is quite straightforward overall. You use a trackball system on the touchscreen to control Dorothy as she makes her way down various paths. You can control her speed and direction, just in case you want to avoid a particular enemy at a particular time, and being able to affect her speed is important for making necessary backtracking quick and painless. As Dorothy and the gang travel down these paths, they'll encounter many enemies, which you will need to battle to proceed and to level up your team. You use the touch screen to interact with objects, select battle commands, and even teach Toto a few new tricks. The entire game is touchscreen controlled, which makes for a smooth and seamless experience. It feels very natural, once you get used to it.

The battle system is simple but works well.Certain characters have certain affinities, so they do better battling certain types of enemies. For instance, Dorothy is best against ghosts, Strawman is best against aquatic enemies, the Lion is best against shell-based enemies, and the Tin Man is best against plant-based enemies. The game also uses a ratio system, so that the more powerful a character, the fewer times they can be used in battle per turn.It makes a lot of sense and makes battles more interesting--which is good, since you'll have many, many short battles and some lengthier boss battles throughout this game.

The most complex part of the game is navigational, as there are many paths to take (and you'll want to keep track of which paths you've taken and what's there). The game provides signposts, which you can mark with your own system of symbols using icons that are provided (whatever makes sense to you), so that you can keep track of such things, but I wound up making a few maps/notes on my own as well. You'll often encounter gates or obstructions that can only be cleared through the use of various switches, and most of these switches can be triggered only with the appropriate elemental (little spirits of fire, earth, water, and wind that you'll pick up along the way). You'll sometimes have to do some backtracking to open gates after you've gotten the appropriate elemental. But again, because you can move quickly, as long as you keep track of where you're going, backtracking is relatively painless--and often quite fun, actually.

Finally, as I mentioned in the first paragraph, this game is beautiful. The environments are vibrant and lush, and all of the characters and enemies are colorful as well. This is probably the most graphically gorgeous DS game I've ever played. The soundtrack is very fitting as well, and it's not annoying, which is important since you'll be hearing a lot of it. I easily sank 20-25 hours into it before beating the game, and this one's a keeper as I expect to come back to it and tie up a few loose ends.

Overall, this is a fun RPG that is accessible to beginners but also interesting enough for experienced gamers.

The Wizard of OZ: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is the latest creative interpretation on the much beloved tale of Dorothy and her magical journey through the Land of Oz. An accessible single player role-playing game (RPG) created by Media.Vision (Wild ARMs series), all actions are performed with the use of a stylus, including movement which is performed by spinning the trackball on the touch screen. The high production values bring the colorful world of Oz to life, while the original soundtrack captures the spirit and environment of the magical land.

This is a set of three complete games, each with a female high school student as the protagonist. Mean Girls is a match 3 type game that can be played with a nice or evil strategy of your choosing.Clueless is a fashion matching game that I thought was a lot of fun and actually had a lot of content and kept me busy for quite a while.Pretty in Pink is a hidden object game that can have different endings depending on which types of extra objects you find. Each of these games follows the story of the movie on which it is based. These story lines are revealed to you in the form of dialogue between characters as you play the games.Overall I would say that these are good quality games of the casual game genre and would probably only appeal to older girls and women.I thought they were great and the fact that you get three full games for the price of one, make them an excellent value.Highly recommended.
