3D Ultra Pinball Creep Night (Jewel Case) Review

3D Ultra Pinball Creep Night
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have always been a pinball lover, but was skeptical to try pinball software. Would it really be like playing the machine? With this software package, the answer clearly is yes. Yes! And what a surprise the animationsand graphics have been. Little goblins whith wiggeling butts tease you toshoot at them, monsters show up out of the wood work, ghosts snatch yourball or take you to a cemetary to shoot skeletons ... It'll take a while todiscover all the little surprises each of the three tables has in store foryou. And just when you thought you had it all figured out, you just mightdiscover a little extra memory game where you have goblins ringing bells, the sequence of which you have to copy, or a monster shows up where youhave never seen one before. Switch between the tables during the game orstick with the one you're on, in either case you're in for hours of fun.

Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction Review

Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The title says it all. Go around and bust up stuff.

I have an 8-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, and they both love this game. I like it pretty good, too.

LACK OF STORY? No big deal. The real fun for these kiddies is running around and smashing stuff. (Although, the 5-year-old prefers to stay in the training ground, where he can smash stuff without police shooting guns and missiles at him).

MINI-GAMES. Inside the game are various "sub-missions," which are mini-games to play in order to earn points. They are separate from the main "plot" of saving Dr. Banner or getting the bad guy. These missions are fun (carry as many cars as possible to the top of a building within a specified time), sometimes silly (hold an inflated balloon character - thing Pillsbury Doughboy/Michelin Man - above your head, jump off a building, and hang-glide to a circle of flares), and sometimes nerve bending (protect a building from marauding tanks for two minutes).

FUN, SILLY FUN: The best way to summarize this game is to say that my kids were frequently laughing and giggling while playing this game. The violence is "cartoon violence," such as when Hulk can pick up a car, rip it in half, smash the halves into "steel boxing gloves," and then go around SUPER-smashing things with his "Steel Fists."Or, the soldiers' screams of "I can't feel my legs!" or "It's all over now!" when Hulk picks up a soldier and gets ready to smash, slam, or throw him. I am confident that most kids will understand that you're not supposed to do go around bustin' up stuff in real life the way Hulk does in this game.

WHO CARES ABOUT BAD GRAPHICS? The graphics are half-wit. Many objects are semi-transparent, in that you can see right through them. Also, many objects (including Hulkster himself) sometimes go right through other objects. For example, when running close to a building, you'll lose half of Hulk's body inside the wall, while the rest of him continues running down the sidewalk.Same with objects he is carrying. Another example: When fighting tanks, Hulk will sometimes pass right through them. But, if you are looking for a game that values fun over artistry (and my kids do), then it is a minor annoyance, and not much of a problem.

EASY TO LEARN TO PLAY. Perhaps the greatest thing about this game is its simplicity. Most commands are single-button commands, which means that little kids can do a decent job of executing the various moves. Try teaching a 5-year old how to press square-triangle-square, while holding down the R1 button, and you'll appreciate the "unsophistication" of this game.

Fun. Simple. Shallow. Entertaining.

Deathsmiles Limited Edition Review

Deathsmiles Limited Edition
Average Reviews:

I can't stress enough how excellent this game is(provided you like the genre).Cave has long been known as one of the kings of bullet hell type games, but this is surprisingly the first Cave game to be localized for a US release on a console. The only other I know of to get on shore at all is Espgaluda II, which was released on iPhone and is also an excellent port.

Synopsis

There are basically 6 different versions of the game. They are split up into the original arcade port, a version 1.1 arrange version and an xbox 360 specific version. There are 2 versions of each of those, the normal and the MBL(mega black label) version.MBL versions are a special edition of sorts. In that version there is 1 extra character playable and 1 extra level.

Anyway, you are presented with a choice of 4 different girls to play and you play through an other world where you are attacked by monsters and spirits typical of a Halloween setting. You will fight flying pumpkins, ghosts, goblins and Death himself. As you progress farther the difficulty increases and you eventually reach the your goal.Don't worry about whether or not you'll make it here. There are different difficulty levels selectable per level, and you can continue after deaths.Difficulty levels range from a relative easy to blisteringly hard so you can suit that to your own tastes. There's even a "Level 999" option if you really want to hurt yourself.

As far as controls go, they are spot on.You'll never feel like you're fighting the game to do what you want.Everything is fluid and solid.

Finally, there are several nice extra features. You get online leaderboards, a score attack mode, replay saving so you can watch how you did and a practice mode for attacking a specific level until you get it right.

I really can't recommend this title enough if you enjoy these types of games. We don't often even see bullet hell shooters on US soil.It would be a shame to pass up one of the best ones.

SNK Arcade Classics Vol 1 Review

SNK Arcade Classics Vol 1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
SNK Playmore has been releasing budget priced compilation discs on the PS2 of their various franchises for a while now, and SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 continues the tradition. The first thing you'll notice is that, finally, SNK has changed up the menu screen, and added goals to each of the 16 games that when completed will unlock new features and extras.Featured here in this collection are titles found on previous collections like the first installments of Art of Fighting, World Heroes, Metal Slug, and Fatal Fury; but there are some real gems to be found here as well.Baseball Stars 2, King of the Monsters, King of Fighters '94, Samurai Shodown, Last Resort, Top Hunter, and Shock Troopers are all wonderful experiences that make this compilation worth picking up alone. Some games aren't all that special, like Burning Fight, while others are decent enough like Super Sidekicks 3 and Sengoku. That being said, you won't find any bad games in this collection, but what really hurts it are some technical issues.Shock Troopers and King of the Monsters specifically suffer from some very noticable slowdown, while Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, World Heroes, and Sengoku feature archaic controls that show the age of the games.Flaws aside though, you can't beat what you get with SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1: 16 games ranging from decent to great, a nice list of unlockables, and an ultra-budget price tag.All in all, if you're an SNK fan, you already know this collection is a must own.

UFC: Sudden Impact Review

UFC: Sudden Impact
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At best, UFC throwdown (the 1st PS2 UFC game) was a 2 Star because it was a duplicate (perhaps worse replication) of the original UFC for Dreamcast. This version however is a vast improvement in my opinion. It still isnt as good as it could potentially be. Being a huge MMA fan I'm glad they are still making these games though it's a lot funner than any other kind of fighting simulation out there and a whole lot more realistic.
The New features that are an improvement over UFC throwdown:
Actual damage will appear on the fighters where they are being attacked (cuts and bruising on the face and body)
New positions in the game are side mount, Standing grapple up against the cage, and a new brutal looking position, it is a mount with the opponent crunched into the cage sitting up akwardly. There are also some updated fighting techniques for all of the fighters that they more commonly use in the ring presently.
There is better music when fighters are comming to the ring although their enterance body movements are very robotic and in their basic standing mobility i believe the game series took a backwards step.
There are new fighting modes such as Story mode where you create a fighter and go through a career of fighting.
Another fighting mode is called CHAMPION ROAD, THIS mode was definitly an improvement on the series I won the championship belt with Matt Hughs in his weight division and then i was able to take on challengers for my belt in another series of matches called LEGEND MODE. This is definitly fun, I will have a lot of fun winning the belt with all of my favorite UFC fighters. On a side note you actually get to carry your belt into the ring with you on your enterance when you are a defending champion, I liked that.
Ken Shamrock is in the game and so is Dan Severn, have your favorite old school warriors go at it one more time!
The game is definitly worth the $20.00. You can't beat the value you get from this game and the replay ability it has to offer for that price. If you were thinking about getting this game JUST GET IT!!! You cant be dissapointed with the price it's at.

Ricochet Lost Worlds (DVD) Review

Ricochet Lost Worlds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a really great game - in fact, it's quite addictive!

"Ricochet Lost Worlds" has many, many different levels, each with increasing difficulty. The object of the game is to ricochet a ball off of a "spring board"-type item in order to smash the board of "bricks".

Of course, there are several twists...On one level, your ball starts out REALLY small, and you have to hit a special brick that releases an item that will make your ball normal size again - if you catch it in time.

I've been playing this game on & off for several months now, and the farthest I've gotten is level 24, and it appears that there are many, many more new levels left.I think this is great since, once you beat a game, you generally don't play it anymore - and, with so many levels, you'llbe able to enjoy this game for quite some time.

Overall, I give it a 2 thumbs up!

Amun Rising is essentially a continuation of the first Luxor game.Same methodology but different patterns/paths, more stages and more levels in three skill categories (beginner, intermediate and advanced). One nice addition is a scorpion power egg that wipes out all the balls up to the end of the chain. Some of the new patterns are devious and the final level in the final stage is dizzying. If you want to start a new game at the beginning instead of starting at the same stage where you finished, type in "-unlocklevels -unlockstages" (minus the quote marks) at the end of the .exe file.

Greg Hastings' Tournament Paintball Review

Greg Hastings' Tournament Paintball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a type of game where the fun factor increases as you play more and a lot more. At first, I felt the game play is a bit slow--due to not so good equipment/gears, the player skill levels, player's partner's levels, etc. Once you can improve some of these aspects, it becomes better to play.
In the singel mod game, you can play 19 tournaments in 20 locations, with 179 field layouts. The game claims having 145 pieces of licensed gear, 39 real life players with 14 Pro players. In Multiplayer mode it supports 14-player head-to-head.
It's VERY easy to learn. I've been playing plenty of FPS games (currently, Ghost Recon 2 and Halo 2) and controller setting is no different from the usual FPS setups. Aiming is a little different because the quality of your gun and equipment changes the accuracy, velocity and distance of shooting. No worries, it's still easy to hit targets. Targets (your opponents) wear nice, bright outfit. It's super easy to spot enemies unlike Ghost Recon2.
The tutorial takes you through the basics of getting started-moving, shooting, jump-diving, switching the gun from left hand to right hand, and refilling paint. In fact, you can skip the tutorial, b/c the first game itself is the tutorial. Once done with tutorial, you begin the tournaments. It's been pretty tough for me to get used to the game play. Part of it is that in the beginning, you have very little skills and amateur partners. With this combination, it's tough to beat good opponents. Once you win some tournaments, it gets more interesting. With the prize money, you can upgrade your gears and eventually get better partners. To improve and to gain better gun/gear is an incentive to play a lot of single player mode. I've played the multiplayer mode on Xbox live only once. The game that I was playing online teams up with other online player (as your partner) agaist your opponents. Perhaps because all of us online were strangers, communication was poor. No strategic decisions were made. We went around shooting. I could see that it'd be more fun to play with friends as your teammates. I wish more of my friends would get this game. It's a nice change of pace from playing recent FPS games (GR2 and Halo2). This is a good non-violent game for those reluctant to buy first person shooter games for your kids.

Atari Arcade Hits #1 (Jewel Case) Review

Atari Arcade Hits #1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If, after you sink into these 6 classic Atari arcade games, you start to smell pizza or hear other voices, don't panic. It's just your mind bringing back memories of when you first played them. THAT'S how good these recreations are.
Compared to today's 3D arcade first-person shooters, these games might seem primitive but they can claim something that modern games can't: anyone and everyone played them. The controls were simple, usually consisting of a single knob or joystick and a couple buttons. You dropped in a quarter and you played.
When you went to the bowling alley or pizza parlor, you saw senior citizens standing shoulder to shoulder with teens at the PONG game. A father and daughter might be huddled in front of Tempest. A child barely tall enough to reach the trackball and buttons on Missile Command has already finished 12 levels. A grandmother has just been introduced to Asteroids and now, there's no tearing her away. A small crowd is gathering around the Super Breakout game because someone has just cleared a third wall of bricks on the first ball. And a weekend lawn warrior is exacting revenge on his leaf-munching adversaries in Centipede.
Those games live again, as does a feeling for what it was like to have lived back then, in Atari Arcade Hits. In addition to the exact recreations of 6 of Atari's landmark arcade games, the CD ROM includes a wealth of extra material including photos, promotional materials and over a half hour of Atari founder Nolan Bushnell reminiscing about the times. That segment was actually taped at the former Andy Capp's Saloon where the world was introduced to the first coin-operated PONG.
NOTE: Games requiring a knob or "paddle" controller are best played with a good quality trackball like the Logitech Marble Mouse Trackball, which I've reviewed elsewhere on Amazon.com

Wallace And Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Ok so.. it really ticks me off to know that I'm near thirty and an 8 year old kid could probably destroy me on games like this..

but a friend of mine bought me this game for Christmas due to my obsession with Rabbits.. and I fell in love.. from the first tutorial level where you have to catch over a hundred rabbits with your BUN GUN I was hooked... like a lab rabbit needing crack I was hooked!

I have actually beaten this game over a month or so later.. but still have tons of missions left to complete.. as many of the new video games are it's set up on percentages instead of LEVELS and though there are I guess we can talk old school.... there are different WORLDS you visit but so many missions that slowly raise the percentage.. so I guess you could find the certain missions to defeat just to hurry up and beat the game .... but the missions makes it more satisfying...

this games can make me so mad I see red trying to beat certain missions but other missions are a breeze...

but that's what I love a game that actually challenges me.. gives me something to work towards.. and when you finally beat a mission you really feel like you've done something..

and the graphics are amazing..

I highly suggest if you liked the movie get this game.. or if you liked the SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS games such as Battle For Bikini Bottom, The Movie and the Flying Dutchman you should get this game.. it's even better dare I say!

King Arthur Review

Average Reviews:

once you get used to the controls of the game killing and maiming the bad guys is easier. plus, after each episode, you get to cash in your XPs for much needed upgrades so that your enemies will have a tougher time dusting you off.

i will admit, this game is time consuming and rather repetitive. there are a few instances where you are given an objective to complete before you win or lose the scenario. it took me nearly three or more times with a few of them.

ultimately, the best advice i can give anyone about this game is to manipulate the combos so that you can get the most XPs, which in turn, means that the more you have at the end of one battle, the more upgrades you can make to your characters.

good luck!

Disney Tangled Review

Disney Tangled, a review by a seven year-old.

What Do You Do In the Game?
You try to get Rapunzel back to the Castle where she belongs. You do games to help people in the game like helping Tor protect his flowers in Flower Defense.

What Do Flynn and Rapunzel Do in the Game?
Flynn can knock out the bad guys and they disappear with a sword. Flynn can cut down the thistles so Rapunzel can get through. Rapunzel uses a frying pan to knock them out. Rapunzel can grow flowers to find insects, birds and flowers. Then she draws them in her book. She uses her hair to swing to get into places and help Flynn climb up.

Who Will Like this Game?
Both boys and girls can play. Dads and moms will like playing too.

Why Will Boys Like this Game?
Because Flynn is fun. The mini-games are fun. When I played with my dad, he was Flynn and I was Rapunzel and it was still a lot of fun!

Will Girls Like the Game?
Yes, of course they would!
A Parent's Perspective
We are a gaming family. We have two Xbox 360s, a Nintendo Wii, two DSI XLs and several computers. Our kids have grown up with games and they are a part of our family time. We love multiplayer games that foster a sense of adventure and teamwork. Surprisingly, this game excels in the area of cooperative play. The characters have different skills and you need both to complete the level. Also, each character collects a different item: Flynn grabs coins and Rapunzel picks up sundrops. I loved this! There was no competition to get the items before your partner did. The coins and sundrops also act as your health. When you stun an enemy they lose coins and sundrops; conversely, your character loses coins or sundrops if you get stunned or knocked down.

Most co-op games inspire a bit of evil camaraderie. Disney Tangled is a true co-op game. When your characters wander two far away from each other, the screen splits and magically merges back when you get close. It was disorienting at first, but made the gameplay that much better. It is really a good setup for parents and young children to play together. If the kids get stuck, you can guide them or switch characters on-the-fly to get out of a jam. We have played "family-style" games before where one person got left behind and their character died. It was very frustrating. With Tangled, we never got stuck or lost. We just followed the coins/sundrops and looked for places for Rapunzel to let down her hair!

There were many interesting and simply mini-games, like painting!

Most of the gameplay is split into two major types: sidescrolling levels and mini-quests. The mini-quests can get fairly redundant, but should keep most younger children engaged. (You know...go get this cup and I will give you the key, etc.) The graphics are well done and look similar to the film. The cutscenes are very enjoyable and follow the artwork that Rapunzel did in the films. You can also play the game with or without the nunchuk attachment.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Kids Edition Review

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Kids Edition

There is not all that much change in the difficulty of questions, making it seem like the 4th edition, rather than a Kids edition, and still missing sound effects in the show that the 1st and 2nd edition games had,why did it's publisher do that? Aside from that this is a great game for all ages, and I like that you can get codes from the web-site for unlimited lifelines, and Regis seems a little more perked up compared to the 3rd edition. The fastest finger is like on the show, and question difficulty (compared to the show) is a little bit more on track for a change compared to past editions, and another good reason to get this game is IT PLAY's IN FULL SCREEN!! About time...the last few Millionaire games play the size of a post-card in the middle of your screen, for the hefty-price tags on these games, you should at least be able to read the questions! Anyways this has to be the best edition in the series yet.

Mario Golf Advance Tour Review

Mario Golf Advance Tour

This game is incredibly fun!
I'm not a golfer.I also don't play golf games on the PC, on a console, in a house, with a mouse... you get the idea.I saw all the great reviews of this on different game sites and thought I'd give it a try. After all, it was made by Camelot, the same designers who did the outstanding Golden Sun games for the GBA.
Rather than just being about playing golf, you get to spend time talking to other golfers, finding secrets, playing minigames, getting custom tickets so you can pick up special clubs, and gaining experience to improve your abilities. You have a partner in the game too and have to balance out spending experience points on your own character and on your partner.Get too good yourself and you'll be slammed on doubles play.
This game is simple to play and hard to master. You can perform the basic commands easily, but can really customize how you hit the ball, the spin you give it and more. You can make each shot as complex as you want to.
Mario Golf is a really really fun game.I thought I'd just play a few holes and haven't put it down for three days. This is a must have, up there with my top 5 games for GBA - Advance Wars 2, Golden Sun 2, WarioWare, Final Fantasy Tactics and now Mario Golf.
