Chocobo Racing Review

Chocobo Racing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you enjoyed chocobo racing in Final Fantasy VII, or if you like cuteness, this racing game is for you!The characters are all very adorable (and may be familiar to fans of the Final Fantasy series), but the game is also a lot of fun for groups.
- The graphics are about average in the racing, to above average in the movies.
- The controls are responsive and adequate.
- The game is well-balanced, with easy modes for less experienced players, and hard modes. The story mode is a little cheesy, but fun nonetheless.
- The music and sounds blend in with the game well.
- You can get this game very cheap, compared to other racing games.
- It is a lot of fun to race against other players (unfortunately, more than 2 human players are not supported), but the AI of the game is also challenging.

Valkyrie Profile Review

Valkyrie Profile
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Valkyrie Profile is the latest game from Tri-Ace, the creators of the absorbing Star Ocean series. Its two-dimensional, platform-game feel brings back memories for those of us who played games like Mega Man back in the day, while combining it with RPG battles and plotlines. The combination works much better than I had expected.
The game shines in graphics and gameplay. Beautiful hand-drawn art brings the harsh world of Valkyrie Profile to life, and the aforementioned platform feel gives gamers a jolt of nostalgia. Battle difficulty follows that gaming cliche: easy to learn, difficult to master.
The storyline is very simple on the surface: Lenneth Valkyrie must collect the souls of the dead to battle for the gods at Ragnarok. The game consists of alternating segments of gameplay (dungeons, towns, and such) and storyline (an earthly hero dies and is recruited by Lenneth). While it sounds tedious, both parts are well-integrated into the whole and enhanced by the addition of a countdown until Ragnarok. Dungeon and story segments use up this time, and when the countdown finally ends, the end of the game appears - Ragnarok. While not horribly accurate with regards to Norse mythology, it hits the mark often enough that people with in-depth knowledge of the myths will be pleasantly surprised by a reference to an esoteric character. The story is also helped by a clear and well-written English translation - and while it can be sometimes off-putting to hear the Pokemon voice actors lending their talents to the game, the voice acting is also good, if a bit uneven.
This was without a doubt one of the best games of 2000, and quite possibly one of the best games of the PlayStation's lifespan. Highly recommended.

Star Trek: Armada II Review

I was impressed by the Armada one I played the whole thing at least 3 or 4 times, butwhen Armada two came out I was hooked this is one of those games you will be up all night playing, "just one more level" right? the story line is great the graphics are are par. This game while somewhat pricey, still even though its getting old... is definetly worth it. I have owned the game for two and half years and still enjoy it very much.

Conker's Bad Fur Day Review

Conker's Bad Fur Day
Average Reviews:

After all the hype surrounding this game, I was expecting nothing more than vulgar British jokes with so-so gameplay. To my surprise, this is one of the best looking, best sounding, best playing, and funny games on the N64.Although it has a mature rating, I found the material to be nothing more than PG-13 stuff. However, for those of us above the 15-17 year age group, Rare has included some subtle, hilarious jokes that I'm sure younger kids would miss. This game looks very very good.Although the frame rate takes a hit in open areas, the true stars are the characters.Their animations, voices, and originality are what makes this game for me.The sound is probably the best I have ever heard from an N64 game. The tunes are reminscent of the old Warner Bros. cartoons, and the sound effects are in surround sound! From a gameplay point of view, you won't find anything new from the 3-d platform genre, but the context-sensitive pads do add a bit of a twist. In addition to the character animations, I must say that the references to movies are outstanding!I don't want to spoil any of it, but I'm sure you'll find one of your favorite movies spoofed in here.I have never gotten bored with this game, and I think this is the last good N64 game that everyone should play.

Product Description:
Conker's Bad Fur Day is for adults, the ESRB has rated thisgame Mature; it should not be bought for--or played by or around--children. That stated, the story of the game is the following: Conker's very good night turns into a very bad day. He has to deal with a crazy and abusive world, all while suffering through a massive hangover. Conker encounters abusive paint pots; jabbering dung beetles; trigger-happy, scar-faced Tediz; and a belligerent giant, with only a frying pan as a means of self-defense. He is resourceful, however, and makes the best of his situation. The game combines elements of 3-D exploration, combat, and puzzle solving. It features cinematic cutscenes, movie parodies, facial expressions, dozens of unhinged characters, and 1- to 4-player deathmatch games in a variety of styles.

Conker: Live & Reloaded Review

Conker: Live & Reloaded
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review is only for the single player portion of the game.I haven't had enough time clocked into the Multiplayer yet to give it a score.

When Conker's Bad Fur Day came out on the N64 back in 01, it had the unfortunate luck to come out toward the end of game development.Nintendo had started promoting their next console, the Gamecube and this fact, coupled with the fact that Conker was retailing for an ungodly $70+ made many people miss this game. What a treasure it was to be missed.

It is the first game that meshed the genre of platforming with third person shooting. It also introduced context sensitive situations where, at the push of a button, different things would happen. Both of these have become old hat now, especially the mixing of genres. You can look at Jak and Daxter for the PS2 to find that.On top of revolutions of gameplay, this was the funniest game I have ever played.

And so it's out again on the Xbox, bearing beautiful graphics, re-recorded dialogue and some shifting of difficulties. The graphics in this game are probably some of the best, if not the best, seen in an Xbox game to date. This doesn't surprise me, though, given that Rare creates beautiful games. What did surprise me was how they toned the game down as far as difficulty goes. The original game was hard, downright frustrating in some parts. Now, Rare either tamed down the difficulty (as in the Saving Private Ryan level) or completely cut out a section (as in a sequence involving underwater travel and an electric eel used to power different generators). Both sections were insanely difficult and not forgiving in the least.

Part of the problem of the first game was the pacing at the beginning. Some reviewers here are misinformed when they say the game is not a "shooter" that it is a "platformer."The beginning levels are very platform heavy, true, but give it some time.It isn't until later stages where you are facing zombies and tediz that the gameplay focus switches to a shooter type from platforming.I enjoy both parts but it would have been nice to have a better mixing of the two genres. However, since this is basically a port of that game I'm glad they didn't change it.

Along with awesome graphics, the audio portion of the game has been completely redone. The dialogue has been re-recorded (using the same people), and the music has been redone to perfection. All of this in Dolby Digital surround.

Basically, my biggest recommendation for the single player comes in the form of what is in this game.Where else, for instance, can you fight the operatic Great Mighty Poo, hit a boiler plant in his brass balls, ride a raptor, bite a caveman in the ass with said raptor, lava surf, be a bat, ride in a tank, have bullet time, hit on a cavewoman, jump on a female flower's "petals," shoot zombies, meet Death, get drunk, urinate on Fire Imps and partake in many movie parodies?Honestly, the list can go on and on.

Then, on top of this wonderful single player game, a game I have played over and over on the N64 and will probably play over and over on the Xbox, is the Live portion.

I haven't played the Live portion too much but I think people will be divided on it.Especially the console gamers used to games like Halo 2.There are six classes that range from the bazooka carrying demolitionists to the airplane flying sky jockeys. Each character has their own weapon set complete with upgrades and special abilities. All of this in an arena that is objective based instead of simply death match based. This involves large arenas to play CTF and other games similar to this. But there's strategy involved not only in how to get the flag from point A to point B but also in the classes which opens up a variety of ways to accomplish your tasks.

For instance, do you have your sky jockey transport troops into the thick of things and provide cover fire?Do you have your Sneeker troops sneak in with their up close and personal melee weapons?Or do you rain devastation with your bazookas? There's so many choices for tactical strategy.Conversely, there's a lot of room for things to go sour.I think the quality of the people playing, not only in how they play but also in personality, will determine whether this Live experience will be a fun one or a horrible one.

The Live portion seems to be more in line with PC online games, like Counter Strike, where there's a little more strategy involved.Don't get me wrong, Halo 2 has strategy but if you play Counter Strike the way most Live people play Halo 2, you wouldn't last very long. And I think that same type of strategy will carry over into Conker's Live portion.I could be wrong.I hope it's very successful because Rare put a lot of time and effort into fine tuning it.We'll see.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing you online and I hope you pick up this game because the quality inside it shines.Look to Rare to lead the way into Xbox 360.Not only with Conker but in the games they have ready for X360 Launch. Thanks, Rare, for bringing Conker to a new generation of players who probably missed out of the game the first go around.

Kameo: Elements of Power (Platinum Hits) Review

Kameo: Elements of Power
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you haven't picked up Kameo yet but you enjoy games that are a complete blast to play, you are sorely missing out.The game isn't marketed very well; it looks kiddish and cute. And, to an extent, it is "cute."But if you can shrug off the fact that you are playing a female fairy, you will find this game to be an utter blast for the whole family.

Kameo is a graphical powerhouse for Xbox 360.It looks stunning. There are times when I started playing and would just stare at the environment in wonder. The opening level is absolutely stunning.Hundreds of red dragons arc through the sky, trolls are climbing up huge castle parapets, fire explodes everywhere, and here you are climbing up a frozen ledge. This level teaches you the basics of changing into your forms. And this is what the game is all about. There are 10 elemental warriors you can morph into.In fact, you will hardly ever play as "Kameo" but you spend most of your time as the other huge creatures you can transform into with the push of a button.

This transforming takes up the majority of the gameplay. There are puzzles and enemies that will require one or more of your warriors to solve/beat.As an example, in the first level you have access to an armadillo-type creature that can roll and a yeti-type creature that can climb surfaces. One puzzle involved turning into the armadillo, speeding up off a ramp, transforming to the yeti in mid-air and then climbing up a wall with him. That is a rather simple puzzle but is a good example of the type of gameplay found within.

Enemies will sometimes require a specific character(s) to beat as well.An early instance of this are trolls who have shield in front of them. You can use Rubble's lob ability to toss a rock behind the enemy and as the rock rolls back to you, it will hit the enemy from behind and allow you to pummel him.

I've already touched on the graphics, but I want to again reiterate that they are terrific. They easily show what the 360 can do, sometimes with 100s of trolls, elves, dragons and "tanks" on the screen at one time, real time, with Kameo charging through the midst on horseback.Stunning.And not even a hint of lag.

The sound is well done, as well. The voices are decent, the sound effects are great and the music in the background is stunningly beautiful.

Kameo is about a 10 or so hour game, give or take. But it is incredibly fun and can be enjoyed by almost any gamer, regardless of age.I would definitely recommend picking this one up.

Viva Pi?ata (Platinum Family Hits) Review

Viva Pi?ata
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In Viva Pinata you have inherited a garden in a fantasy world populated by living pinatas and an assortment of odd characters.Your mission is to build your garden to attract pinatas to live there.Everything you grow in your garden, including the pinatas, vegetables, flowers, and trees, can be sold for chocolate coins. You can use the coins to buy more seeds and grow more plants or to otherwise improve your garden.Viva Pinata is like a cross between Pokemon and The Sims and virtual pets, but I found that the result is greater than the sum of its parts!

This is a sandbox game of the best sort. You can make whatever decisions you want to and your garden can look however you want. You have the ability to dig ponds, grow grass, build houses for your pinatas, and all sorts of other activities that I am still discovering several hours into the experience. The decisions you make about how your garden develops will determine the kind of pinata who want to live there. The open-ended nature of the game is its best feature, and it really makes you feel like you are in control of the game's environment. The feeling of empowerment that kids receive playing Viva Pinata is enhanced by the excitement of constantly finding new things to do and play with.

I am impressed that a game that is so easy for kids to pick up is also so complex. My daughter is nine and was familiar with the controls and basic concepts within a half-hour.Yet the underlying concepts of the game are complicated. The skills I see her working on in this game primarily have to do with resource management, which as we adults know is critical for daily life. You have a limited amount of space for your garden (just like in real life), yet if you are not organized in your approach then the garden will quickly become a place of chaos.Kids will also learn the concepts of working to make money and how to budget for the next big item they need to improve their garden.

As other reviewers have stated, this looks like a game for kids, but it will suck an adult into its world just as easily.I couldn't wait for my kids to go to sleep the first night so I could start on my own garden.Time is greatly accelerated in the game, and the result is that you are very busy - you may suddenly look up from the game and see that a few hours have passed in the real world almost as quickly. The pinata are just the right amount of cute so that they are fun to watch, not annoying. There is no lull in the action for at least a few hours, at which time you may have been able to hire some helpers to take off some of the pressures of a big garden, such as watering and gathering your sellable items. This too is a good introduction to kids of the concept of people management.Lots of times you have to tell your helpers what to do, rather than just letting them do their own thing.Otherwise, their priority list is typically different from yours and those plants that you just planted may die because your helper was busy watering something less important.

Viva Pinata has way too much to offer to cover it all in such a short review. The environment is incredibly well done, from the sounds to the graphics. The game play is very addictive.Playing Viva Pinata actually got me excited to go out and do lawn work in the back yard! For parents wondering if this game is suitable for their kids, I will say that I am picky about what I let my kids watch and play and there is nothing here which offends me.There are all sorts of euphemisms around breeding pinatas (they call it "romancing") that sound very innocent but will make the adult chuckle. It is very tastefully done. And there is no doubt that your kids will be using their brains a lot more while playing this game than while playing the typical platform-style kids game. This is exactly the kind of game I was looking for to provide my kids with an enriching, non-violent video game experience. If Viva Pianta is an indication of the future of kids video games then the future is very promising.

Banjo-Kazooie Review

I got Banjo Kazooie a couple of years ago for Christmas and it's still one of my favorite games. It's a lot like Mario 64 except better in many ways. The levels are a lot bigger and more challenging. There are more moves tolearn, more enemies, and bigger bosses than any other 3D platformer exceptfor Donkey Kong 64.It's fun finding and collecting the puzzle pieces soyou can get to the next level and closer to the chance of putting Gruntildaback on her broom and on her way.As you go on, the levels get more andmore difficult. The level with all 4 seasons in it and Gruntilda's boardgame are especially difficult. You also have to collect 5 of your friendsin each level for a puzzle piece. Not to mention collecting 100 musicalnotes for another one. There is a lot to find in each world, but the gameis fun enough and keeps you interested enough to do that without gettingfrustrated. The snow level was completely awesome and had some of the beatgraphics I have ever seen.
At the end of the game, Gruntilda is apretty hard boss to beat. There's a secret you can get right before youjump in the pot that sends you to fight her that will double your energy IFyou have collected enough music notes throughout the game. Banjo Kazooierevolutionized 3D action/adventure games a step further than Mario 64 didand did it with authority. If you like 3D action/adventure games, you gotto get this game.

If only *half* of the goodies Rare (the developers of this game) have dropped on us wind up being in here, it still warrants five stars. But knowing them, they've only told us half of all the new stuff!
Based onRare's extremely-popular Goldeneye engine, this is the"semi-sequel"... follow Joanna Dark as she infiltrates thedataDyne corporation to uncover a deep, sci-fi-based plot, with loads ofweapons, strategy, and multiplayer fun!
Confirmed features include:
-- At least two multiplayer levels from Goldeneye
-- All ofGoldeneye's weapons, and more
-- Much improved AI, where teams ofenemies can interact, function as a group and assess threats
-- Aweapon that slowly let's you target through, then shoot through walls (no,that's not a typo... bye-bye, campers!)
-- An intricate, deep plot(with numerous twists)
-- The ability to introduce "bots" toyour multiplayer gaming... i.e., play by yourself against a fewcomputer-controlled bots, or have a 4-player game and assign each player abot to help them out, etc. The bots can also be set to specific modes, including Revenge (hunting whoever killed it--or it's human teammate, I'mnot sure--last), Target (going after only one person the whole game),Pacifist (guess...), and more
-- More levels, some specificallydesigned for multiplayer
-- Real-time lighting effects, and othergraphical goodies that I can't remember at the minute
-- The abilityto take a snapshot of your face (yes, you being the person who holds thecontroller) and paste it onto your character in the game (this will be donevia a Game Boy Camera...)
-- ... What are you waiting for? Pre-orderit already! :-)
