(More customer reviews)After having used a Harmony 676 to control all my devices, I was not happy when I needed to use the PS3 controller to control Blu Ray movie watching.

This remote's dongle does the job in letting my Harmony 676 control the PS3. There was one problem that almost led me to return the remote however, and I wanted to mention the solution here.

Problem (for Harmony remotes):
On the PS3 XMB (Cross Media Bar), the directional buttons would move the selection several spots for each key press. I read several posts and tried teaching & re-teaching the Harmony. I tried teaching using the "Raw" IR learning but that would slow down the response from the PS3 to each key press.

Solution:
Within the Harmony program, go to Devices->PS3 and select "troubleshoot" under device options.
Select "Show me more problems" (last choice).
Then select the choice "PS3 doesn't appear to receive every command correctly," and the select "The device responds too much to some commands (for example, volume up increases the volume too quickly)."
In the screen with the radio buttons, select '0'.
Save & update the remote and everything the directional buttons will work perfectly.

PlayStation 3 Wireless Sixaxis Controller Review

(More customer reviews)The PlayStation 3 controller has gotten a lot of press because of its lack of vibration. However, it is wireless, extremely light, and has tilt sensors in it. This seems a great trade-off during gameplay.

First, let's get through the "bad" that many people have gotten upset about. They took out the rumble controller from the PS3 controller. This was for legal reasons - a company which developed that rumble technology took issue with Sony using it. Some people feel it really affects gameplay not to have that rumbling.

I have to admit that I am VERY happy, personally, that the rumbling is gone. I always turned off the rumble in games where I could. I am on my computer pretty much 24 hours a day, and if I play a game with rumble on, it *kills* my wrists.If you're a rumble fan, this is a decision you'll have to make for yourself.

Now, to the good parts of the controller. First, they all come wireless for the PS3. I *love* love wireless. Wires cause huge clutter in our living room, with all our systems and equipment. You only have to plug the controller in to power it up. It's a regular USB power-up so you can use your iPod's plug (assuming you have an iPod) or plug it into your computer or XBox 360 or anything else with a USB on it. That is to say, you don't have to power it up from your PS3 if you don't want to for some reason.

Next, it is super light! I imagine this is because it doesn't have to hold the motors that cause rumbling. I really appreciate the lightness. You might not notice if you only play a game for an hour or two, but if you're doing marathon sessions of multiple hours, the weight of the controller really does begin to matter.

Just like the Wii controllers, this controller has a tilt sensor in it. It actually knows when you tilt and turn the controller, or shake it. Depending on the game, you can use those tilts to look around or to shake off an enemy. That really gives you much more interactivity with the game, much more than button pushing.

The general controller shape is exactly the same as the PS2 controller. You have a pair of shoulder buttons on each side, two joysticks, four buttons on the right and four directional buttons on the left. There's a PS button in the center, just like there's an XBox button in the middle of the Xbox 360 controller. Also, there are four lights on the unit, to let you know if this controller is #1, #2, #3 or #4 if you are playing multi-player games.

The center PS button lets you turn the unit on and off, which is great if your console is off in a shelf or corner of the room.

In general, I think they did a great job with the PS3 basic controllers. The main console sale both for 20 and 60 comes only with one controller - so be sure to get yourself a second one!

PS3 Blu-Link Universal Remote Control Review

(More customer reviews)Before I get into my thoughts on the Blu-Link remote, I'll start by saying that I've purchased and returned two Logitech Harmony universal remotes.The Harmony Xbox 360 remote and the almighty Harmony One to be precise.These are the only products I've ever returned on Amazon.com.They were nice enough remotes to look at, and the computerized setup was convenient.I just couldn't get past the delay in button presses.No matter how you set the inter-device or inter-key delay for the remote, there is a noticeable delay between pressing a button and seeing the result.(For example: Holding down the volume button for an A/V receiver for a few seconds would result in about 3-4 extra commands after you let go of the button. Annoying)I am far from the only user to be bothered by this, as a quick Google search can yield innumerable results on the topic.

The Blu-Link remote doesn't have a computerized setup, a display, or a charging station.I give it 5 stars nonetheless.It does what it's supposed to do, and does it at a reasonable price.Using the supplied codes, I had my PS3, Samsung TV, Onkyo A/V receiver, and DirecTV HD-DVR up and running MOST of the way within a couple of minutes.I then spent 5, count 'em, 5 minutes using the remote's "learning" feature to fill in the remaining functionality.Notably, I ran into the same problem that another reviewer had with my A/V receiver, in that it would power it on, but not off.Teaching the Blu-Link the Onkyo remote's power code directly alleviated this problem.Various other commands were learned from my old Onkyo remote, but the DVR and TV were good to go using only the supplied codes.The volume master feature works as it should, sending all volume commands to the AUX input, the Onkyo receiver.The manual also explains how to set up a master volume device, but to also be able to control the TV's volume when you're on the TV input.(I mention this after seeing another reviewer's frustration with trying to do that)

Now, for the reason I was so excited about this remote in the first place:The ability to control the PS3.I can tell you that it works flawlessly.Power on, power off, video/music playback, menu navigation, just about everything you can do with the PS3 controller can be done with the Blu-Link remote.To power on, you simply hit the PS3 input selector.To power off, you hold the "Home" button, just like you would on a PS3 controller, and select "Power off device".Simple!The only ommission I've seen is the lack of "L" and "R" buttons.The only use I would have for them is webpage back/forward keys, (which is still easily done by hitting "triangle" and selecting it from the menu) but since I don't do much web browsing on the PS3 it's not a big deal.

The finish of the remote is very attractive, and I find the button layout to be very comfortable.Be aware that the buttons are quite small, namely the number keys and transport buttons. (FF, RW, etc.)Those with large hands may have problems.

I spent less than 10 minutes setting up this remote to control all of my components, and have been loving it in the time since.Yes, I have to manually adjust inputs when watching a movie instead of hitting a singular "Activity" key, but I also don't have to deal with the delays present in Logitech remotes.The PS3 control is fantastic, and you can get the Blu-Link remote for $10 less than the price of the Logitech PS3 adapter alone!

If you're unhappy with Harmony remotes, and you're a PS3 owner, this is a no-brainer.Buy it now!

PlayStation 3 HDMI Cable & USB Cable Review

(More customer reviews)Its difficult to wax poetic about a cable - if it works well you should never even notice that its there.

And I want to be careful here not to wade into a discussion of how much a cable is worth, especially when talking about digital signals that are either there, or not.

I pondered the question of $3 or $300 cables for a long while, and chose to hedge my bets by buying this one for the following reasons:

a) Its pricing places it right in the middle of the pack.
b) you can see just by looking at it why it might merit this price.
c) It would be madness for SCEA to sell a product as graphically intense as the PS3 and hobble it with poor quality cables. (These cables are made by SCEA too.)

So what do I get? I get extremely high cable construction quality, and a set of extra long cables. The 10-foot USB cable length is a boon since it lets me position myself comfortably away from the monitor.

The cable jacket is a very flexible cloth like material that makes it look like this cable will last forever, no matter how tightly I squeeze it through the openings in my entertainment center. The ends fit well into my HDMI connectors and are supposed to be gold plated.

All I care about now, is that the images are wonderfully clear ... and I can safely go back to ignoring cables.

As soon as I tried this router, all the buffering problems went away!

Remember, HDMI cables transfer digital info -- they pass bits, not an analog signal -- so, basically, they either work or they don't work. You'll either see the complete picture and hear the audio, or you won't (if the cable is defective).These are not like analog cables where cheaper, poor-quality cables can result in a poorer picture or sound.So if you get any HDMI cable that works, you won't get any better quality by paying for more expensive HDMI cables.Reviewers that say they see a poorer picture with cheaper HDMI cables are fooling themselves and don't understand digital vs. analog.

Time Crisis 3 with GUNCON 2 Shooting Action for PS2 Review

(More customer reviews)This is by far the best Guncon2 game for the PS2. The action is fast paced and the graphics are suburb. The story line is weak and boring, but that is not why most people play a shooting game anyways. The game its self is not terribly long, but no shooter really is. A good piece of advice would be to take it easy on the Guncon2 light-gun. Though they are very accurate they are also very fragile, remember squeeze the trigger don't yank it. If you like shooting games you can not go wrong here. Some other decent Guncon2 games you might want to check out are "Vampire Night" and "Ninja Assault". See You Space Cowboy.

I have to say I was very skeptical about them and didnt expect much, I do this so I won't get let down but when I turned them on. It was amazing, totally worth the money at 150, I don't know about now since their being sold for 100 dollars more but they are really cool. You can see in abosolute darkness, I was amazed. The game itself is, well come on, COD 4 the II. I like games that deliver what the hype is promising. And yes I even stayed up till midnight to get the game for my kid brother on his x-box. Happy Birthday Adrian. P.s. The goggles need 5 double A batteries to work, but it works like no other.

(More customer reviews)I have been a gamer for a long time and have particularly been a fan of Shooter games especially on the PC. Somehow, online multiplayer shooters have never been my cup of tea. I have tried Battlefield series, Resistance and a few others.

The main reason is that even after putting in weeks I continue to suck at these games. Somehow, that stops being fun very soon.

However, I think I have finally found my Multiplayer addiction. I picked up Warhawk as an impulse buy and after just two days I am absolutely hooked.

The graphics etc. are pretty good. It has some issues with stats and online leaderboards. Lacks some lobby features. Some of these are going to be addressed soon, others we'll have to live with.

What makes this game one of the best I have played, however, is the gameplay. For the first time learning the game was actually fun. While I am pretty bad at it, I can still have fun being bad. It takes a few hours to learn the ropes. I suggest you download/read the manual and a few online guides. After that this game has me totally hooked. I am giving it 5 stars for it's mind blowing gameplay. Even the initial learning curve is hugely fun.

Pick it up if you like shooters. You will "Get" online multiplayer gaming with this.

I am also very familiar with the latest 80GB model (which is basically this one with a larger disk) because one of my neighbors has one and I am the neighborhood's unofficial and unpaid 'computer' consultant :). I did some research in anticipation of us purchasing a second unit because I promised the kids "their own" if their grades were going to meet a certain standard.

As compared to the 60GB model (see this model's pluses and minuses and what all PS3s have in common):

This model comes with an 160GB drive. This is nice because, based on my own experience, 160GB should be sufficient for a few years of use for as long as you don't plan to purchase lots of movies from the PSN store or download to many full games - if you are thiking about storing movies on your PS3 disk, consider upgrading to larger storage. However, unless you believe that Uncharted + Pain are worth the extra $100, you may be slightly better off buying the 80GB model for $100 less and then upgrading.

To give you an idea of the amount of storage you may need on your PS3, I recently checked the status of my 320GB disk and I found that I had 198GB free. That means that, one year after purchasing my (then) 60GB box I was using 122GB already. The space is taken by family pictures, a little music, lots of demos, many 'disk' games that dump gigabytes of data to the disk to improve performance, many videos the kids are making with the 'Eye' camera, game saves. I suspect that 'Home', when it becomes available, may require a few more GB's for its own use so 320GB may be what you need if you don't want to constantly worry about deleting old stuff before you run out of space.

If you are on the upgrade path, $80 would buy you a 320GB drive. I used the Western Digital WD3200BEVT 320 GB Scorpio Sata 5400 Rpm 8MB 2.5 inch myself but that was back in June/July and I paid about $150 then; you could get much larger drives for less now. 500GB drives are available for less than $100 and you should try to get one of those if you are planning to store lots of videos. One that I tested would be the Western Digital 500GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM 2.5IN 8MB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD5000BEVT which replaced my laptop's 60GB little drive and I helped a friend upgrade his own PS3 with. The nice thing about upgrading your disk is that you are also going to be left with a perfectly good 80GB or $160GB drive which you can place into a cheap enclosure, and the StarTech AT2510U2 InfoSafe 2.5-Inch USB/SATA Hard Drive Enclosure worked for me. I am using the free leftover drive as a backup device for family photos.

Upgrading the disk is (relatively) easy and you can find a lot of advice on the Net. Search for "PlayStation 3 Hard Drive Upgrade (HOWTO)" for videos that should help you decide if you are comfortable with upgrading. If upgrading is the first thing you do (before installing games or uploading personal files), everything becomes very easy because you need not worry about backups or restores. I upgraded my box in a couple of hours WITH the backup/restore steps.MEMORY CARD INTERFACES:

The lack of memory card interfaces is annoying but you can get around it. Copy your stuff to a USB drive or flash drive and... problem solved. You can then upload your things through the USB. It's somewhat inconvenient but it's no big deal. USB PORTS:

My old 60GB model has 4 USB ports and I am using all of them. One for the PS3 Eye (camera), a second has a wireless keyboard dongle, the third is where the racing wheel plugs in and the last one I use to charge controllers. Of course, you can and you WILL be able to live with 2 slots but it is likely that you will be doing some plugging/unplugging if you begin adding peripherals. One way around it is to get a USB port multiplexer. Another solution is seek Bluetooth peripherals (wireless) if you can find them. Bluetooth keyboards, for example, are available.PS2 COMPATIBILITY:

This model does not support PS2 software. Since the original PS2-compatible PS3's are hard to get, this has to be accepted as reality. I assume that Sony, after polling existing and future PS3 users, found that most users don't need PS2 compatibility. Soon after we upgraded to a PS3 my kids were playing Kingdom Hearts and Destroy All Humans but I haven't seen them doing so in quite a while. It is nice to have PS2 compatibility but its lacking would not stop me from buying a PS3.

PSOne GAMES:

The PS3 has full PSOne compatilibity. Lots of them are available for download at the PSN store. They are quite inexpensive and some of them are still fun to play.SUMMARY:

- If you like Drake's and you do not consider upgrading, buy THIS model. In fact, you should buy this model regardless of Drake's because you are likely to be unhappy with an unupgraded 80GB model - like I mentioned above, I am already using over 120GB and this is BEFORE Home.
- If you are planning to upgrade, you're better off with an 80GB model selling for $100 less because you can use the $100 you save to buy yourself Drake's for about $40 and use the balance to help pay for your disk upgrade.

Note: I am not taking off one star for the lack of PS2 compatibility. I understand that Sony must compete on price and make a profit and times are tough. However, I simply can't see why Sony cut the number of USB ports from 4 down to 2 and this explains why this unit gets 4 stars instead of 5. This is a relatively significant inconvenience and I can't see how it would cost Sony more than a dollar or 2 if it provided 4 ports instead of 2.

The Orange Box Review

The Orange Box for PS3 is an outstanding purchase for any Half Life fan or for those that wanted to play HL2 but didn't have a PC that could run it. This package comes with 5 games which give roughly 30 hours of single player gameplay and infinite online multiplayer.

Included are the titles: Half Life 2, HL2: Episode 1, HL2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. I have played through all five titles and can say that, on the whole, this is a very good port to the PS3. It has enhanced Hi-Definition graphics and the whole package has a very cool vibe to it.

Half Life 2 and the two expansion episodes are basically intellectual First Person Shooters with a huge emphasis on puzzle solving. HL2 was named game of the year by over 50 gaming publications when it was released. This version is better looking and is almost like playing the game for the first time. Portal is an insanely fun puzzle game where you shoot two portals onto walls and then warp between them to clear levels and reach objectives. It is easily the best puzzle game I've ever played and even better, my wife loves playing it as well. Team Fortress 2 is a fast cartoonish team-based online FPS. You use one of eight character types (engineer, scout etc.) to work together to defend your team's objectives. The game is a blast and has a crazy style to it.

The Bad:
There have been many complaints about this game having longer loading times and worse framerates than the other versions. But, I am here to tell you that these issues are WAY overblown and that in over 15 hours of playtime I have experienced only one substantial framerate drop and the few that popped in were gone within a few seconds and were barely noticeable. In fact, the framerate issues are no worse than they were in Heavenly Sword, or Assassins Creed.

Also, the loading times are longer than the other versions, but only by a few seconds and this is outweighed by the PS3 exclusive console ability to quick save at any point during the game. Loading times are also much worse on other highly praised games like Oblivion. But it does get annoying if you start dying a lot!

The Verdict:
If you're like me, you heard the bad press and got really worried about getting the highly anticipated and acclaimed orange box for PS3. I'm here to tell you that on its own merits as a game for PS3, this game is simply OUTSTANDING. The issues are minimal, and the overall fun and value of this game outweigh any of the negatives. If you only have a PS3, like Half Life, and want the best puzzle game of 2007 (Portal is incredible), then get this now. It may not be the best version available, but it's definitely a version worth getting and is an awesome addition to any PS3 library.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Eye Camera seperate from the Eye of Judgement game becasue I really don't play card games.The reason I purchased the camera was so that I could use it with my 5 yr. old who has recently taken an interest in animation.With the free download available on the PSN, you are able to leverage this clever device to do all sorts of fun and unique things.But first, I'll address the camera from a hardware perspective:

It's well built, and sturdy looking.The camera pivots from left to right on it's base, but cannot be adjusted to look up or down.The camera auto-focuses, and seems to do a nice job of it.The lens does twist to provide a "zoom" view of the subject as well.Perhaps the thing I was most impressed with is the sound quality it is able to capture.I recorded a few demo videos to test the functionality, and found that you can easily sit 10 feet from the camera and talk in very normal tones and the camera picks it all up beautifully.The sound is rich and full.I have not had the chance to video chat with it yet, but from what I have seen, it will be nice and easy.The 360 offers a similar product, but the image quality and frame rates are not quite as good, and you are required to wear a headset to transmit voice and pick up sound.Overall, I am pleased with it from a hardware aspect, with he only real downsides being the fact that you cannot pivot the lens up or down.

No software comes with the camera.Instead, you must grab it from the Playstation Store on the PSN.It is a free download, and takes up very little space.The software itself is easy, but does have a small learning curve due to the fact that it does not come with much in the way of detailed instructions.However, anyone with any technological saavy will be up and running in no time.Capturing video is easy and fun.If you are expecting fancy editing software, you'll be dissapointed here, but that isn't the point.The ability to save your videos to the PS3 HD is great, and the fact that they can be transferred to a PC (via a USB storage device) is really cool--especially considering that you can then turn around and email them to family/friends or post them on YouTube.The software offers several effects including various colors filters and distortion modes, as well as the ability to do stop motion and time lapse.The latter two effects are the main reasons I purchased the camera, and I could not be more pleased with how they work.For time lapse, you can set the cam to snap a photo every 5, 10, or 30 seconds, and simply leave the camera untouched for hours on end, simply to return and view the results later.I have left the camera on--pointing out a window--overnight to watch the sunrise.What a neat option!The stop-motion animation function is unbelievably simple.You snap several photos in succession, and then the software combines them into a single video file.You can fit up to 100 frames into each scene, and then the various scenes can be combined to form one long stop-motion movie.For adults out there that are maybe having trouble finding fun things to do with their kids and are intimidated by today's complex video games, I can tell you firsthand that this is a breath of fresh air, and a great way to to intereact with the young ones.

The overall image quality is pretty good.One thing I do not like about the software, is that if you tweak it for specific lighting array, you aren't able to save those settings, which means you need to change them each time you begin using the camera again.There really isn't any excuse for this, but know that changing these settings probably takes less than 30 seconds.

Great product overall.Mind you, this isn't a hi-def camera, but it gives you the tools to do things on a console that have never been done before.In the very near future, there will be additional software released for the camera via the PSN Store.One that intrigues me is an aquarium simulator that looks eerily realistic.The fish react to movement on the camera, which sounds like a great thing to have on the background if you are having people over.All in all, I am pleased with this product and I hightly reccomend it.

(More customer reviews)Ok so I was pretty down on this game when I read about it. First I have never been in CCG games(collectible card games I think?). Although I applauded SONY for the idea, I never planned to get the game myself. However because it came with the PSEYE (EyeToy camera v2) and I saw it on a pre-order sale on Amazon for 59.99, I snatched it up. It also comes with a starter pack (30 cards) and a random booster pack (8 cards) both which are worth $15 and $4 respectively. The PS EYE cost $39.99 which in total comes out close to 50 dollars in value without the game! Then you have the camera stand and the mat and you can see why this game is a steal at $60 and extremely well priced at 69.99. Of course it can add up to much more than a hundred if you're a serious card collector

Anyway so on to my story, I am still learning the game but I can honestly say I am hooked. My brain cannot stop thinking of strategies, which reminds of of the days I used to be addicted to Age Of EmpireII. A Few matches in and the whole day is gone! Its scary actually and I am afraid this game will take over and leave me no time for SingStar and Uncharted during the holidays :(

Well, I have to say this is a great little package to an addictive card game which is best played with friends. Even if you never tried these types of card games before you should give this one a try. The battle system is deep and adds randomness to card choice which will be immediately clear when you start playing. In other words don't worry too much about not having the best cards. Playing online, I have seen some crazy cards out there in the wild which may clean your wallet due to jealousy since you will be buying up crazy amounts of booster packs!

Yes, the game is pretty much a button masher, but for a 40 year old dude like me, that's fine; I don't want to spend hours learning mutliple button combinations and special moves.I played the PS3 demo and enjoyed the atmosphere of the game.

The Director's Cut of the film is on 1 DVD and the game and additional features from the film are on a separate DVD.

The special features on the game disc are the same ones included in the 3 disc Blu-ray set.The only thing you don't get is the digital copy, which would be in standard definition only anyway, so no big loss.

*Here is an interesting point with this set* The bonus features on the game disc will play on your standard Blu-ray DVD player!I tried it in my Samsung unit and the menu comes up and they play perfectly.

So, if you think you want both parts of the PS3 game and the director's cut of the film, I think this set is an OK deal.As a small bonus, you also get a poster featuring Rorschach and Nite Owl and a fold out Watchmen Timeline taking you through key points in the Watchmen storyline.Neither is very impressive, but they are exclusive to this set as far as I know.The case is a standard 3 sided fold-out with a disc on the left and right panels and a slot containing the inserts in the center.

Positives:
1 The game offers a bunch of driving aids for n00bs.
2 The graphics are fantastic even though the output is only 720p you will be amazed when the rain starts to pour down.
3 The tracks and the environment around them are perfectly detailed.
4 The presentation is 99% TV- like. Including displays, commentary, camera angles, etc.
5 You can set up the car just the way you want. You can change more than 15 aspects, including the basics (tires, wing, brakes) and advanced (camber, gear ratio, brake bias).
6 The online mode is really entertaining. There are a bunch of options that allow you to enjoy the race without getting bothered by n00bs or a-holes.
7 You can earn rewards like tracks and cars by playing the different game modes (career, single race, time trial, etc).

The only negative thing I could find is the difficulty mode. Easy mode is too easy, and medium feels almost impossible, forget about difficult, you'll never see the cars infront of you again. And also, when racing in the dark, either dusk/dawn, the track is almost impossible to see, even in hd. You'll have to guess your way around the track for the career mode tests.

Of course as an avid f1 fan I would have liked to see more things included in the game, the pace car, corner workers, marshalls, etc. But that will not stop you from having a heck of a time with this game.

Overlord is one of the few titles on PS3 that will allow you to play a strategy-type game (but also retains some optional first-person smiting of your own).You're leading a pack of minions of several types, and have to use them strategically to win your battles.

Even though at a first glance the Overlord you're controlling is an evil creature, the gameplay allows you to proceed through the game doing mostly noble and helpful deeds, while listening to lots of humorous feedback. Throughout the game, it retains an enjoyable light-hearted atmosphere, without the usual "save-the-mankind-from-doom-and-gloom" setting.

Animation and graphics look a bit dated, but this doesn't get in the way of fun. Definitely, a recommended purchase if you're looking for a new type of PS3 entertaining. If you want to try it out, just download a free demo from the PSN store, I think it gives an accurate impression of the whole experience.
