(More customer reviews) My gf bought this stick for my birthday two weeks ago at Gamestop and so far i love it. its my first stick and i figured "why not get the best?" I dont think i have ever even played ssf without a controller(born in 89)so i have nothing to compare it to, but it has definitely made the game twice as fun.

They are still easy to find but most stores only have the xbox one. although, if you just ask them they can look up the nearest gamestop that has it. I didnt plan on gettin the marvel vs capcom edition but when i was browsing and researching, i noticed the $200-350 price tag online and said f that. So i planned on ordering the black edition after my bday. i went back home to see my parents during my bday and ended up at a gamestop where i saw this stick. I flipped out because it was priced at 140 as opposed to the online prices because i didnt read the reviews. my gf offered to get it for me and i was sold.

i think the online prices might just be a marketing scheme because gamestop is way overstocked in these. so that when you see it for really cheap you think your ripping them off when really your still paying 20 extra bucks for a faceplate

Its full sized but it can still fit comfortably on your lap. its even big enough to fit a small ash tray on for quick blunt actions

(More customer reviews)This is, without a doubt the fight stick you should buy for your PS3.It has all of the same components as the Mad Catz Tournament sticks.Right out of the box, you get all Sanwa buttons and, of course, your Sanwa JLF joystick.In addition, something you get with this baby that you don't get with any of the SFIV sticks (despite what some previews or even the box itself says) is full PS1/PS2 compatibility as long as you have the latest firmware update, and obviously, a backwards compatible PS3.The HRAP 3 SA is also fully wired to work on your PC, which means you can play all those games you have on MAME or any other emulator you use.The fight stick itself is heavy enough where you can rest it on a table and it will stay firmly in place, (yes it has the four rubber stops at the bottom) but light enough where you can play it on your lap without any discomfort.It's also a beauty to look at.It's got a very sleek design and the japanese style button placement is just right for most of your favorite fighting games.

I understand there's been some concerns about the square gate the joystick uses.Let me just say that I have always been used to an octogonal gate when playing my fighting games.While I do admit it felt a bit awkward at first, I got used to it fairly quickly.The type of gate a joystick uses doesn't affect the movement commands at all. Just keep using it and it will feel right in no time.However, if you continue to have trouble with it you can always buy an octogonal restrictor plate. (I highly recommend[see comments] for all you arcade part needs.)The stick is easy enough to mod, and I believe the plate is a snap-in-snap-out kind of deal.
P.S. ALL ARCADE FIGHT STICKS THAT COME WITH A SANWA JOYSTICK INCLUDES THE SAME SQUARE PLATE!

Conclusion: If you're going for the best-of-the-best, I can't recommend a better fight stick than this one.The only thing the Mad Catz Tournament Editon Stick really has over this is that compartment for the cord, which is admittedly cool.But with backwards compatibility and, at the time of this review, a $10 cheaper price tag, your arcade fight stick of choice should definately be the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 SA.Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to play more Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.

(More customer reviews)This is my first fight stick purchase. I have been playing fighting games for years and I finally decided to shell out the money and get one. I have visited many message boards figuring out which fighting sticks were the best and most affordable. I discovered that this one( Mad Catz) and the Hori fighting sticks were the best for affordability and performance. I picked the Mad Catz one because it has a storage device for the 12ft wire right in the back of the base, and also the nice art work on it.

The performance is spectacular. I have always used the d-pad on a controller for fighting games so i was skeptical switching to a analog stick and 2 rows of 8 buttons, plus the fact that I would have to spend $130 to find out if i liked it or not. It did take time getting used to. I spent a good 2 days getting used to the button layout.Other than adapting to the button layout I am not disappointed at all. This stick is worth all $130.

The cable length is perfect and more than enough. The fight stick itself is light and I usually just place it on my lap. The buttons are really responsive. I mean I barely touch the buttons and I can perform a move. The analog stick is great. The stick is really responsive as well. All I can say is that the fight stick screams precision. Every move, combo, can be pulled off with precision with little to no error. I play Street Fighter for ours and my hands dont get tired or start hurting. When using the PS3 controller my hands would get cramped. No cramping has occurred when using the fight stick, and I have had it since March 12.Arcade sticks can be fully customized and Mad Catz Fight sticks are one of the most fully customizable when it comes to replacing parts and the artwork.

I fully recommend this Fight Stick for first time buyers like me who are looking into buying one. Put all worries aside. This stick is great for upping your game. This Fight stick will make you play better period. Its so much more responsive than a normal controller and now I can see this is how fighting games were meant to be played. Worth every penny.

(More customer reviews)Wasn't going to leave a review, but seeing as how the first guy to review it doesn't even own one and gave it 1 star for the most retarded reason ever (because people are paying 400 on ebay?), I thought I should give some balance as someone who does actually own one.

I have to say- I was not expecting this stick to be as nice as all the hype built it up to be, but I have to eat my words and admit I was wrong.I got the lucky opportunity to pick one of these up for not much more than retail even though I never pre-ordered it, so I did because I wanted to see what the fuss was about and get a good comparison to the HRAP 3 SA.So far, it's been a great playing experience.It's got some really good weight to it, and obviously the sanwa components are top quality.Feels good on your lap, and very easy to play with in general.I'm not a huge fan of the start/select buttons all the way on the back of the stick...maybe on the right side would have been more convenient IMO, but that's the only complaint I can come up with...

I originally said that I didn't think this stick would be better than the HRAP3 SA, and I still stand by that though.I don't think it's better, BUT I don't think it's worse either.Both sticks have a solid arcade feel to them, and both use genuine sanwa parts.The color scheme of this one is growing on me more, but I might end up doing some kind of art mod later...

Anyway- I'm eating my words, Mad Catz actually made a good controller for once, haha.The fact that Mad Catz made something on par with what I consider the best arcade stick hori has to offer is absolutely crazy to me, but it seems to be true.Don't know how this stick came out so well and the SE version is so full of issues....

(More customer reviews)For serious fighting game fans, a decent stick is a key part of your arsenal. However, the parts and construction generally used to make up consumer-grade sticks, especially in the US where Arcades are more or less dead, have almost universally been of sub-par quality when compared to the real thing you find attached to arcade cabinets.

This makes sense, of course. Arcade components are designed to withstand full-scale assaults every day all day; it's a safe assumption that something bought for home use isn't going to go through the kind of abuse you'd expect an arcade machine to go through. On top of that, constructing something out of industrial-strength arcade parts ain't cheap. Who's going to pay over $100 for a game controller?

Well, as it turns out, a lot of people. Left with no other solution, fighter fans who want the genuine article have traditionally turned to simply making their own sticks. You buy the parts from a japanese manufacturer like Sanwa or Seimitsu, plot out where the holes are going to go on a chunk of wood, and drill and solder and screw your way to perfection. This approach, however, is expensive, time consuming, and requires some level of expertise to pull off correctly.

The other approach was to wait for a Japanese company to produce one of their factory sticks (usually in extremely limited numbers), put them up for sale in Japan, and pay through the nose to import. While this was a lot easier than buying your own parts, you always wound up paying some kind of premium. $200+ was not uncommon to own one of these things.

We're at the point now, however, where the industry has gotten large enough that you can just up and buy these things on Amazon.com now. My sincere recommendation, if you're at all interested in owning a stick, is that you bite the bullet and shell out the money for a good one. Once you pass a certain threshold in quality with these sticks, you enter the realm of specialized consumer electronics that are made to specifications without regard to your average user.

The HRAP3 is one such stick. This thing is designed from the ground up with the assumption that the only people who are going to buy it are serious connoisseurs, so damn the price, let's make it properly.

If you're not a SERIOUS serious stick person and are just getting into the swing of things, here's all you need to know: This is one of the best high-end sticks money can buy, and it will last you a decade or more. These are extremely durable, very responsive, and have a very well-defined functionality about them that you won't get from cheaper products. Yeah, they're expensive, but honestly? You're getting your money's worth and that will become apparent the instant you use this stick. Buy it, be happy.

As an aside, this stick has a USB lead and will also work with your PC out of the box (just hold the HOME button for 5 straight seconds upon plugging it in). This is absolutely perfect for emulators like MAME, or any other PC game you wish to play with an arcade stick.

That out of the way...

Okay, let's assume you're a serious stick person. Here's a more in-depth rundown:

The stick itself is a Sanwa with a square gate, and the buttons are all Hori. This isn't bad, but the good news is that they're all attached with a quick-detach lead and can be popped loose with a screwdriver easily, no solder required. If you want to go the serious route and swap the buttons for Sanwa and the stick for Seimitsu, this stick will let you do it pretty easily. Google has many picture tutorials to do this.

I replaced the gate with a Sanwa Octagon (I like Sanwa sticks but a lot of people prefer Seimitsu) and all the buttons with Sanwa. It took about 10 minutes and was completely painless.

If you do this, you have a stick that is officially on par with the Street Fighter IV TE stick (also made with all Sanwa parts) and the special import-only editions of the HRAP, but it is much cheaper to buy this one and do a little surgery than buy the factory-stock ones that come with Sanwa. This is a lovely medium ground between building your own and buying a factory made one; you get some level of customization, you're saving a little money, and you're still getting full-on arcade quality. Go for it.

(More customer reviews)Certainly this stick is a little pricey but in the end it is worth it.The design is heavy duty and will last for a TON of fights.It is also modable which makes it an even better value.Most Hori sticks will run you about the same amount of money or more and won't be as durable or have as responsive buttons.Best stick I've ever owned and Madcatz will be my source for all my future fightstick purchases.

(More customer reviews)I ordered this item in anticipation of the release of Street Fighter 4 and with the knowledge that the stick would be the very best stick ever released.Mad Katz--who has not historically been known for high-quality peripherals--did not fail to deliver on that promise.

As an owner of an Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 stick, I must say this stick is clearly superior out of the box. The buttons are of substantially higher grade, the panel is easily changeable (for custom art), the stick is ported directly from the arcade Street Fighter 4 cab.

The stick also features amenities that show it was made with a lot of love by people who play with arcade sticks.The housing for the USB cord is convenient, discrete and useful.The internals are easy to get to (simple removal of 6 screws on the top plate, allowing direct access to all parts), which is significantly faster than my HRAP3 (which requires removal of the bottom panel and a socket wrench to remove nuts inside the device in order to open the top panel.The top panel itself is large enough to allow for hands to rest comfortably. Turbos are cool.

There is more than can be said about how good this stick is, but the bottom line is this: For those looking for a stick that is by virtually all accounts PERFECT out of the box, your choice is clear.

If you can find this stick, don't hesitate.
