There's not much to say about this controller, it works great and it's really fun to play with. One important detail that is not mention on the description, is that this controller works with Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band and Rock Band 2

Guitar Hero 2 Review

Guitar Hero 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Guitar Hero 2 is a fine sequel to the original but there are some areas of the game that could have used a bit more polishing. Lets break it down...

In case you aren't familiar with the Guitar Hero series i'll provide a brief description of how the game plays.

First, if you don't have the first Guitar Hero then make sure you get the bundle package with the guitar. Although the game can be played with the dualshock controller you will find it MUCH more entertaining if you play with the guitar.

This game is played by strumming notes at the correct time as they come streaming down a fret board. You strum the notes by moving the "strum bar" either up or down. On the neck of the guitar are five buttons. You must hold the correct buttons and strum at the correct time in order to successfully hit the notes. You can perform hammer-ons and pull-offs on certain notes to make it a bit easier (once you get the hang of it... it takes practice). Some notes can be held. There is a visual indicator that shows which notes can be held. You can use the whammy bar on these notes for cool whammy effects. There is a rock meter that has a red, yellow and green section. If you are doing good you will stay in the green section but the more notes you miss the further down you go in the rock meter. If you continue to mess up then it's game over. Star shaped notes provide "star power" if successfully played. Star power doubles your multiplier (8X max with star power, 4X without) and also makes it much easier to bring your rock meter back into the green zone. To active star power you lift your guitar vertically in the air (or press the select button on the guitar).

The meat if this game is in the career section. This is when your band goes on tour around the states and plays in various venues. You get money by beating songs. You are ranked on how well you performed. You get anywhere from 3 stars to 5 stars depending on how well you did. The more stars you get - the more money you get. You can buy new guitars, characters, guitar finishes, songs and videos. In Guitar hero 2 there are a total of 64 songs. 40 licensed songs and 24 songs from various bands that haven't made it big yet.

Guitar Hero 2 does provide the insane gameplay very similar to the original. Some of the songs are real gems, but there are others that just aren't as memorable is the original (this is an opinion though). I believe the original Guitar Hero had a stronger song list. Also, the cover bands that did the songs in Guitar Hero 2 aren't quite as good (still very good though!). Some songs like "Mother" by Danzig just don't have that powerful heavy metal feel like the original has. It feels a bit empty. Most songs are quite good instrumentally but the singing can get a bit iffy - but this is rare. Typically the singing is quite good.

There are two big improvements in this game. First is the cooperative mode which is a two player mode that allows one player to play the lead guitar and the other player to play either the bass or the rhythm guitar (depending on the song). One nice feature is that each player gets to set their difficulty level. The other major improvement is the practice mode which lets you practice sections of a song that you are having problems with. You can practice at normal speed, slow, slower and slowest. This is a feature that most people wished for in the original. Three button chords are new in this game (the original had two button chords) which ramps up the difficulty quite a bit. Hammer-ons and pull-offs are a bit easier to nail in this game which is VERY good.

Even though this game is an improvement over the original as far as features go, it could have used a bit more polish. First, most people agree that the song selection is iffy (I don't believe this, I just feel the songs in the first guitar hero are a little bit more memorable). This is an opinion however so I wont consider that. Although the practice mode is great to have it could have been done a bit better. My main complaint here is that there is no way to loop through the area you are practicing. You set your section(s) that you want to practice, set your speed, play it and once your done you have to go through the loading process again. This makes practicing tough areas a bit cumbersome. It would have been very nice to have the ability to continuously loop through the desired section. Even changing the speed causes a reload. Complaints aside, just having a practice mode is great. Another feature that would be nice is the ability to play through the game in cooperative mode. In this mode you can only play the songs that are unlocked through the single player career mode. It would have been cool to have a cooperative career mode. Not having the cooperative career will not affect the review though because just having the cooperative mode is very cool.

Although the game is great it does tend to feel like more of the same. This isn't all that bad because the game is just so fun but it would have been neat if they changed the gameplay a little bit more. Three button chords are new but it would have been cool if they did something like open notes (strumming without holding a button) to change the feel a little bit more. The difficulty level is just right. It's easy enough for those of us new to the series but on the harder difficulty levels it's quite a bit more challenging then the original which is good for us Guitar Hero veterans. They hit the middle ground just right. If you are a veteran that wants challenge the rest assured that challenge lies ahead in this game.

Overall I still highly recommend this game. Despite the issues listed above it's still a great game that will keep you addicted for many hours, especially with the new cooperative mode. I hope that if Harmonix plans to release another game that they change the gameplay a bit more to keep the veterans interest. Rock on.

Guitar Hero World Tour Review

I always preferred the Guitar Hero guitar to the Rock Band guitar (play-wise anyway) but the quality of the Guitar Hero guitars is weak.GH3 guitar had problems with the connection between the neck and the body. That has been fixed with GHWT, but the new one lacks in new areas.Mostly the strum bar.Occasionally mine registers extra hits (RedOctane's fix is to "hold" the strum bar and not "strum or flick").Also, it will occasionally not register strums at all (My solution to that problem is to smack the body of the guitar with my palm, which I shouldn't have to do at all). And, probably the most irritating thing, my strum bar feels like it's rubbing against something on the up-strum, which throws my flow off just enough to miss notes.
I've done some research and I'm not the only one having these problems.GHWT would be an awesome game if the guitar wasn't crap.I highly recommend GHWT if you have a guitar the works properly.
Hopefully they can get it right, because the guitar feels good in my hands, except for these couple problems.

This is one of my favorite guitars to use for guitar hero as well as rock band. The strum bar is right on as well as the notes. The only downfall that I would say is that it quit working after a year of some really heavy playing.

Playstation 2 Guitar Hero Wireless Guitar Review

Playstation 2 Guitar Hero Wireless Guitar
Average Reviews:

Well the guitar worked really well for the most part. Same size as the SG guitar that comes with the older games. Wireless is not very laggy and it has good range. Only complaint here is that the buttons seem to stick a bit more than the other guitar and they feel like they are made cheaper, but they worked good enough to use even on expert.

So it worked great for a month, and then one day it wouldn't connect to the receiver. I tried and tried and it would not connect. Tried everything I could think of including replacing batteries, resetting it, resetting the PS2, and even turning off my WiFi router and cordless phones. Nothing could make it connect, and in the rare case it did it would not hold the connection. I did not have a receipt so could not get a replacement on warranty so I decided to open it up and tinker with it a bit and here is where I found the problem. The wireless board is separate from the rest of the internal circuit board, and instead of being held on securely with a screw or such IT IS HELD ON SOLELY BY THE DATA PINS. I just barely pushed the wireless board with my finger and it easily bent back at a 45 degree angle from the other board. Most defiantly one of these pins had broken loose and caused the connection problems. This is very bad design. Since I have no soldering skills I had to throw it away.

If it wasn't for the bad design of the internals I would recommend this guitar. Until they fix the problems (maybe they have with the new style GH3 guitars) I would avoid these completely.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Review

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

The gameplay is GHIII is fantastic (The Boss Battles in career mode are a little silly, but they are thankfully optional). The track list is awesome and the songs are extremely well implemented and fun to play.

The wireless controller included in this PS2 bundle, however, is a big step backwards from the wired SG controllers bundled with GH I and II. I have experienced several random drops in response from the green and yellow buttons (not due to proximity from the receiver, I was less than four feet from the console). The buttons just stopped working. Also, the whammy bar is much closer to the strum bar, and my fingers on my strumming hand kept getting caught in it. Finally, the tilt sensor on my controller only worked intermittently, which was doubly frustrating because they moved to start and pause buttons directly behind the whammy bar, so the alternate method of triggering "Star Power" (hitting the start button) is almost impossible because you have to take your strumming hand off of the strum bar and bring it up and over the whammy bar. I'm returning the bundle and buying the stand-alone GHIII game, and I'm ordering a wired GH2-style controller directly from Red Octane.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Review

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Average Reviews:

I come to Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii having played Guitar Hero 2 on the PS2 at Expert difficulty. Sometimes formula can be a bad thing, other times it's not. This is one of those "not" times.

The game plays basically the same as its predecessor, and on top of that it's got a better set list. After reaching 5-star level on nearly all the songs at Expert difficulty in Guitar Hero 2, I found that the list of songs that I actually just enjoyed playing was very short. That's not so much the case with Guitar Hero 3, which has a larger collection of songs that are both fun to play and to listen to.

There are flaws, though. It seems to me that the new developers decided that they needed to tweak the Hammer On/Pull Off controls a little, and the result of this tweaking was that there were many times throughout the game where I instinctively didn't strum because two notes were close together, but one of the notes inexplicably required you to strum. Although this increases the difficulty, it feels awkward and forced (you could, after all, just do away with HOPOs altogether rather than making them unworkable at seemingly random times).

I'm not a big fan of the boss battles, either. The battle mode seems a good idea for balancing multiplayer Guitar Hero, because Guitar Hero 2 suffered significantly from the fact that an Expert player could hardly help beating anyone playing on Medium in the Face-off mode, at least not without putting down the guitar, which isn't exactly fun. However, the battle mode really has no place in the single-player career mode, where all I'm looking to do is play some songs.

It doesn't help that the boss battles are not very well executed. The final boss battle had me stuck for quite some time, simply because the battle power-ups that I was getting weren't very useful against the opponent. When I finally got the right power-up, defeating him was trivially easy. That means the battle was far too dependent on randomness, which isn't really fun in a game that's good precisely because it depends completely on skill.

Add on top of this the fact that, for no obvious reason, the songs that you play in the boss battles can't be accessed away from those battles. That means there's no way to just play these songs. You've always got to be worried about defeating an opponent who's messing up your ability to play. Along the same lines, certain songs are only unlockable by playing multiplayer mode. I wouldn't call that a good idea in any case, but it's especially annoying on the Wii version, because there currently is no guitar available for separate purchase, which means you must find someone else who owns both a Wii and Guitar Hero 3, and most people I know who have the game have it for PS2 or XBox 360.

The game is still lots of fun even with these flaws. There are some good new features to balance things out, such as the ability to play the game online (though again it seems that more often than not when I go looking for an online game, there aren't any available). I think I like the Wii guitar controller better than the PS2 controllers for Guitar Hero 2, in part because they seem more responsive. A number of times when using the PS2 controller and strumming very rapidly while attempting to deploy Star Power, I have had the controller frustratingly not register my movement despite holding the controller vertically. I haven't noticed such problems on the Wii.

As far as difficulty goes, if you played Guitar Hero 2 on Expert, then it won't take you long to get through Guitar Hero 3 on Expert, either. Some of the songs are still difficult (and some will cramp your hand), but because the gameplay mechanics are the same (and that is a good thing), if you're good at Guitar Hero you're good at Guitar Hero. You won't have too much trouble with the vast majority of the songs in the game.

All in all, if you liked Guitar Hero 2, you'll probably like Guitar Hero 3. If you didn't, why are you reading this?

Guitar Hero 5 Review

Guitar Hero 5
Average Reviews:

All the new features and setlist are what make this game amazing.

I was really getting tired of RB/GH Releasing the same thing over and over again with new songs, almost no new features, and the same tired note charts.Guitar Hero 5 changes everything.Completely redesigned interface that makes you feel like you can NEVER press a wrong button. You can switch modes within modes, go directly online from within modes, and even pull up your friends list from a new in-game menu (on PlayStation Network) and send network invites. The only thing I hate about this is, they took away the XMB friends list (it'd be equal to pulling up the Xbox Live invite list) for their own friends screen which doesn't sort by whether your friend is on/offline and whether they are playing Guitar Hero 5 or not. It's kind of crappy. However, it does let you see their Rocker Card for friends who've played the game.

That's probably the only complaint I have about the game.Everything else is prestine and adds a new funky freshness to the genre.Rock Band 3 is already trying to copy the new and improved music studio adding in their own thing. You can know use RB2 cymbals in GH5, which used to cause an error on previous games. You can import GHWT, GHSH, GHVH, and BH into Guitar Hero 5 and all your GHWT DLC except for Jimi Hendrix.

Updated note charts for RB drum players, too.You now use green for a cymbal and yellow isn't only for hi-hat anymore and velocity sensitivity has been added in for RB2 drums, also.

Guitar Hero World Tour Review

Guitar Hero World Tour
Average Reviews:

Having played Rock Band and RB2 at a friend's house for some time, we were waiting with great anticipation for GHWT as our first rhythm game purchase. I have to say that my feelings about the game are mixed now that I have played it a bit. I like quite a few of the songs, and I like the bass guitar and lead guitar parts fine, although they do raise the difficulty level from previous GH titles.

My chief frustration with the game is its vocal part. It is MUCH more difficult than RB's vocal part, and I think the way that it scores vocal performance leaves very little room for error, even at the "easy" setting. The mix seems off in many songs, making it hard to hear well enough to sing correctly, and the "freestyle" parts can be very annoying when you know perfectly well that there isn't supposed to be any vocal track in that part of the song and you have to make up something just to fill up the empty space (honestly, RB's cowbell/tambourine part makes much more sense).

I'm not "hardcore" by any stretch of the imagination; I play guitar on medium at best and prefer to 100% on easy rather than struggle through a higher level. However, since I know a lot of guys out there buy band games with their families/girlfriends/wives in mind, it seems useful to point out that the women and casual gamers in your life will be MUCH happier singing along with your band in Rock Band than in GHWT. I feel that RB's approach to vocals is easier to follow and to hear, while GHWT's is overly precise even at low difficulty levels and makes for a very frustrated singer. I would sing RB songs until I lose my voice completely and have a blast the whole time, but I get angry with GHWT after just a few songs and switch back to playing bass instead. I think a casual gamer ought to be able to enjoy the game and do well on EASY, and that's just not the case with this title.

In short, the hardcore folks will love it, but those wanting a game for the whole family or for casual groups of friends might find RB2 the better choice.

Love to play pretend guitar ? You will after you play this game. If you're new to this game the combo pack is a great way to start. You will however need to buy a guitar controller to get the full experience. NOTICE to ps3 owners both games will play on the ps3 system, HOWEVER the Guitar Hero 3 Ps3 Guitar controller WON'T work. The standard ps3 bluetooth controller will for some reason. So now i gotta get a ps2 guitar controller and dig my ps2 out of storage. A pair of fun games, now get to practice.

I originally bought a PS2 just to play guitar hero 1.And it was quite ground breaking.I then followed it up and bought GH2 and Rock the 80's.GH2 was a big improvement over the first, and 80's is the exact same engine as 2, just with different songs and graphic overlays.

Now, I was expecting quite a bit for GH3 but I don't think I was expecting anything over the top of what is possible. And here start all my issues with GH3:

1.Sony added bluetooth to the PS3 which was an amazing idea. There was NO need to add a wireless dongle. There is wireless built into the PS3 for a reason, USE IT!A wireless dongle for PS2 would be understandable. But common activision, there is NO excuse for the dongle.

2. The implementation of the GH3 controller with the PS3 is below standards. You CANNOT turn on the PS3 with the controller like you can the sixaxis.

3. People have been waiting for a guitar controller for the PS3 so they can play the old GH's on the system. Here is the controller everyone has been waiting for, but sorry... this controller doesn't work with anything but GH3.GH I, II, and rock the 80's still have no way to play on a PS3 even though sony added backwards compatability for legacy games.

4. Why couldn't they model the guitar after a sixaxis? They could have made the guitar run just like a sixaxis which in turn would create a seamless integration with the PS3 like it should be.The 5 colored buttons could stay the way they are right now, the two bottom triggers on the sixaxis are pressure sensitive and could have been used for the wammy bar.The built in motion sensor could be the 'star power' trigger, and there is still many more buttons left over. There is no need for such a poorly integrated controller.

5. The overall timing of the game feels 'off'.I've calibrated and still the game doesn't feel right.

6. In practice mode, your calibration doesn't work.So if you calibrate your TV with lets say 50ms, in practice mode it's always at 0ms no matter what.In the high ms (80+) you will not be able to hit one note properly.Go try it and see for yourself.

7. There are some great songs on here, but there is way more filler than the good stuff.I've already beat the game on expert, and I got excited for maybe 4 or 5 songs the entire way through.Mostly it was "lets get this over so I can move on" type songs.

8. The guitar runs on 2 AA batteries.Again, if this was modeled after the sixaxis like it should have been, it would have been a simple usb cord to charge the guitar.Yeah I know it's just 2 batteries, but I still feel the developers were lazy putting this package together. There are positives, the removable neck is great, the guitar feels solid, removable face plate, updated graphics (720P), downloadable content in the future. But I still feel let down with this one.Let the flaming begin ;)

Guitar Hero 3 (GH3) is the fourth iteration in this series of games despite it being labeled the third, though for most people the 80s edition that was the actual third game was a bit of a footnote since it only came out on PS2 and had very little in it that differed from Guitar Hero 2 other than the songs.

GH3 continues with the same basic formula as the previous games which will keep fans of the series happy, but at the same time adds some welcome new features. One of the best additions is that of online play so that you can now do co-op, face-off, pro face-off and battle mode with a friend over the Live network.

The battle mode is a change up from the normal face-off modes in that instead of gaining star power you acquire attacks from playing certain sequences of notes. Then when you turn the guitar up as if you were going to use star power it instead launches an attack at your opponent. The attacks vary in their nastiness and while I was skeptical of this new aspect of the game it's actually a nice twist for those more competitive players.

Another addition is the co-op career mode, but unfortunately you can't play this mode online which means you'll have to get a friend over with their guitar to experience this mode.

Speaking of the guitar the new wireless Gibson Les Paul style guitar controller is a welcome change from the original 360 GH2 controller.Overall it just feels a lot more solid, especially the whammy bar. Not being wired makes a big difference in terms of convenience. There are GH3 bundles out there with the original GH2 controller in them and I would recommend passing on those in favor of the wireless bundle.

The career mode remains mostly the same as in the previous games. There are now little animated vignettes between each set that don't add much to the overall experience, but certainly are a welcome change from the old bus driving across the country scenes in the previous games. The other addition to career mode is that at the end of certain sets you have to enter battle mode with another guitarist.By now most people know that Tom Morello and Slash are the two real guitarists who you battle against in the game. Both contributed original guitar compositions for their battle sections and can be unlocked as avatars in the game.

The playing experience itself is much the same, though it seems the game is even more forgiving in the timing of when you play notes than even GH2 was and hammer-ons and pull-offs are also very easy to do.For experienced players this will obviously make the game easier in some respects, but at the same time the note structure has been mixed up a bit and the later songs are pretty challenging on Hard and Expert.

While the multiplayer aspect adds a lot more playability to the game at the same time the core of the experience remains the songs and for this game there are even more original songs than before and the song list is pretty great.

Overall GH3 rocks the house in much the same way as the previous games, but with the addition of some new features it doesn't feel like more of the same.Multiplayer adds a new aspect that should give the game a lot more life overall between those times when you get your friends over to the house.

Here is the list of tracks by the original artists (or in the case of Talk Dirty to Me, original vocalist) used in the game. This doesn't include the bonus tracks by the less well known artists.

"Talk Dirty to Me" - Poison (Vocals re-recorded by Bret Michaels)

As an big fan of the Guitar Hero games and owner of the previous three installments on the PSXII I was VERY excited for GH3.HOWEVER, after playing for a few days now I am very sad to say I'm rather disappointed as I have mixed feelings over GH3.

First off is the aesthetics looks; obviously Activision made a great effort to appeal to contemporary audiences and, from a marketing standpoint, this is very understandable. However, I feel as though the Guitar Hero franchise is now becoming a marketing tool for new bands and songs instead of following the formula of playing great songs both old and new.Granted there were many songs from the 1980s on back, but in many instances songs were from the past year or so; some were even being initially produced during production of Guitar Hero 3, which reinforces my theory.

To be fair, there were many songs I was very pleased to see make the final cut such as Welcome to the Jungle and La Grange.I'm a big classic rock fan and it was a blast playing Rock Ya Like a Hurricane.I would've chosen some different songs for say Aerosmith, Cream and The Who but you win some, ya lose some.I should also be fair in saying I did enjoy some of the contemporary works such as Priestess, I actually went out and bought their CD because I fell in love with the song they used... but that's where my love for the new songs end. They also butchered some songs, most notably The Devil Went Down to Georgia; I was skeptical at first because it's a fiddle song and my fears were confirmed as I noticed it became a death metal song.*le sigh*

Then there's the severe lack of diversity in the songs. It appears to be half death metal, half classic rock; almost all from primarily white bands.I've seen better diversity at a Trent Lott Christmas party. No Hendrix, no Stevie Wonder, no Michael Jackson, no Prince, no Rick James ("I'm Rick James!"), no Vandross, no nothing.Carlos Santana seemed to be the token minority group in the entire game, granted they did an excellent job doing Black Magic Woman and that one is probably my personal favorite to play.

The bonus songs, to me, were all worthless. It's almost all one genre; garage bands.Granted this is primarily the basis of the bonus songs in previous Guitar Hero games, however, at least Red Octane placed songs everyone could enjoy such as Dethklok and even Strong Bad.This time around, I did not find one bonus song I liked.

Then there's the layout; it's waay too contemporary for my taste. It seems to be marketed entirely to heavy metal, death metal and (dare I say) emo fans.Aside from glam rock character Izzy and Motown Xavier (which they only had one song contributing to) the characters, arenas and styles all reflected contemporary rock themes. The British Invasion is subtlety hinted although they use Weezer as an example when other songs would've personified this much better since Weezer is 30 years late.I just wish there would've been more balance between contemporary and classic. The only arena I liked was the prison, which I thought was nice.

I also thought way too much emphasis was placed on aesthetics than actual game play. The stages were beautifully done and some of the characters looked considerably better than before... but, then again, most of the time our focus is on the fret board and not what is in the background. It also made it very difficult to read points and, more importantly, star power.I had considerable trouble discerning my star power level given the new layout. The old layout from the first three installments was considerably easier to read on the fly.

Then there's the versus boss mode... which I think is the most worthless feature they included, which you are forced to do if you wish to proceed.Despite being a seasoned player, it took me several trial and error sessions to beat each boss especially the final boss Lou.It was literally a toss of the coin as half the time the boss would strike back and the other half he would not.Not to mention you have to cause the boss to fail before the music stops; you could have triple the points the boss has and still lose which is hardly how a guitar battle should be engaged. If anything, the battle should be based on points at the end of the song, which would've been great with The Devil Went Down to Georgia.I just wanted to rock dangit!!

The difficulty also seemed to be considerably off.I thought I'd start small on medium and played through the game.I noticed the first few songs were super easy, then towards it the end it got considerably harder than usual.Songs on medium seemed to be hard but without the orange button, especially on the last two genres.Particularly in the song One by Metallica, the song goes into a long solo of run-offs similar to hard if not expert songs on previous installments. While this made me a better player in the long run, it will deter casual players.

And perhaps it is just me but others and myself have noticed the screen appears smaller.I checked my screen settings and even put on widescreen mode to see what was the deal and, sure enough, the fret buttons and screen was condensed to allow the player to see the stage, characters and background better... which is kind of pointless since you're supposed to be focused on playing the game, not admiring the scenery. This made it REALLY hard to do harder songs since I had to scoot up to the screen and squint my eyes.

Lastly, there's the loading time.It is considerably longer than before due to the large emphasis on backgrounds, characters and animations instead of gameplay. For previous Guitar Hero fans this will prove to be cumbersome as you will be tempted to hit the green button thinking the game is waiting for your input when, in reality, it's still loading.

However, there are some pros.I really enjoyed the co-op career mode since I typically play Guitar Hero games with friends and this allows us to move towards an attainable goal.

All in all, Guitar Hero III could've been done a LOT better.Activision and the four million contributing companies with rock intros strayed heavily from the formula and will disillusion many long-term fans.I strongly recommend you rent this first and try Guitar Hero 2 if you really want it; the second installment is much better executed with all the features you'll really need with a diverse soundtrack.
