PlayStation 3 USB Cable (x2) Review

PlayStation 3 USB Cable

This picture does not do the product justice. This package contains two SONY-made-and-packaged usb cables specifically for PS3 controllers and/or PSP-to-PS3 connectivity. The cable length is 10 ft, waaay longer than the usb cable included with the PS3.The price is really good too.I checked around and the best deal I found elswhere was $20 for a single usb cable.I absolutely recommend this to any PS3/PSP owner.

Sega Dreamcast DC VGA Box w/ S-Video & RCA Review

Sega Dreamcast DC VGA Box w/ S-Video & RCA
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In the hierarchy of Dreamcast hookups, this is the king of the hill.Basically, the worst picture available is with an RFU adaptor, the next step up is the standard composite video cables supplied with the Dreamcast, much better than that would be an S-video cable (which you can use with this box as well), and a step up from even the incredible looking S-Video cable is this VGA box. This box will let you hook up your Dreamcast to a computer monitor _or_ if your HDTV has a "PC In" or VGA port, to your high def TV.And I've got mine hooked up that way to a 44" TV.When I first hooked it up, I must confess, it didn't completely blow me away. But when I compared to what I'd been using by going back a step (S-Video, which looks really great as is), there was no comparison, VGA is much more crisp and strong.Really, when you've got this hooked up, Dreamcast games look better than PS2 and Xbox games, only second to truly high-def Xbox 360 and PS3 games.

A couple of notes:
Don't overpay - this box goes for between $20 and $30 if you watch and wait; don't lose your mind and pay $70.
Also, keep in mind - the box alone does _not_ come with a PC VGA cable, which you'll need.Nor does it come with audio out cords, and what I needed was a splitter from the headphone out jack on the box to go into composite RCA red/white cables, to hook into my stereo tv.You could also get a set of PC speakers and a headphone-type out for the sound. You can find these either on Amazon or at your local electronics shop on the cheap.

Product Description:
With this full-featured Sega Dreamcast VGA Box, you will be able to hook up your Dreamcast up to any VGA monitor or a TV with VGA support in addition to virtually any TV.This is ideal for HDTVs as you can hook it up via any of the following ways (from highest to lowest quality) * VGA Video Cable * S-Video Cable * Composite (RCA) Video CableOnce you have your Dreamcast attached to a VGA display, you will be able to experience the Dreamcast at its most beautiful form. If you have played many PC games, you know how much crisper and cleaner the picture quality is. Now imagine high-resolution games like Soul Calibur and Guilty Gear X being displayed on a VGA monitor. It is truly a sight to behold.Basically, the VGA Box has all the features of the regular Dreamcast VGA Cable, but with much more flexibility with the addition of S-Video and Composite (RCA) video output. If you have a game that does not support VGA mode (see the VGA compatibility list), you can with the box to "TV Mode" and switch your TV to the S-Video or Composite input for maximum compatibility.

PSP Composite AV Cable Review

PSP Composite AV Cable

So when I opened my package, the Composite AV link said "Videos, Music, and UMDs on your television."Unfortunately this was a warning that this site as well as the few others which sell this product are missing.Because in the big and fine print on the packaging, it clearly states gameplay cannot be played through these cables.

Bwuh?!?Yes, I was quite shocked and annoyed as well but there it is, the key feature of the PSP-2000 is lacking in these cables. And these worst part is how hard this information was to come by.Consider yourself warned.I sure wasn't.

Nintendo e-Reader - Card Reader for Game Boy Advance Review

Nintendo e-Reader - Card Reader for Game Boy Advance
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Game Boy Advance is nothing if not, well, advanced. It's more powerful than a Super Nintendo Entertainment System and yet runs for hours on a pair of AA batteries. It plays all the original Game Boy (classic, Color, Pocket) titles, and its games are priced right for kids on tight allowances. Now, it provides something for the old-school gamer in all of us, along with new features and boundless possibilities.
The Nintendo e-Reader is the latest in an oddball line of scanning devices for kids.Earlier such devices generated virtual pets based on the UPC barcodes on various products; in fact, a particular brand of instant soup flew off store shelves in Japan after it was learned its barcode created an ultra-powerful character. However, the craze has never really caught on in the United States. That is, in my opinion, until the e-Reader.
The e-Reader is about the size of an N64 Transfer or Rumble Pak, and plugs directly into the cartridge port of the GB Advance. As the e-Reader also plugs into the GBA's Game Link port, a "replacement" port is provided on the e-Reader itself, so you can continue to use Link Cables and some (not all) GBA lighting products.
The key to the e-Reader system is its data cards, which are basically another family of trading cards, a la Magic The Gathering and Pokemon (more on this in a moment).Cards designed for use with the e-Reader are distinguised by rows of dots along their length. These dots are the basis of Dot Codes, a proprietary format that the e-Reader sees as digital data.By swiping a compatible card through the e-Reader, you are loading data into the Reader.
What kind of data, you ask?Depends on the cards. The e-Reader comes packaged with two 5-card booster packs. The first contains the complete Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) port of Donkey Kong Junior ... you read that right, an NES cartridge stored on five trading cards!Other NES games, similarly translated, are available from retailers now, with many more to come.
The second pack contains an assortment of other e-Reader cards, including three from the Pokemon Trading Card Game. These three cards are the first in a new line of Dot-Code-bearing Pokemon cards.Along with being used in the Pokemon card game, these cards hold (in their Dot Codes) extra data on the particular Pokemon (readable on the GBA screen), and even mini-games you can play.A fourth card includes a sample Nintendo Game-and-Watch game (old pre-GB handheld games).
However, it is the fifth card that really can open up doors in how you play games. This card contains bonus items that can be used with the Nintendo GameCube title "Animal Crossing."By connecting your e-Reader-equipped GBA to a GameCube via the appropriate Link Cable (with a compatible title, like "Animal Crossing"), you can upload new information to the GC game.Just imagine ... you could update the stats of your favorite football or baseball player simply by swiping his compatible trading card through the e-Reader!
How does the system work in practice?Actually pretty well.It takes about 60 seconds to completely load a game like DK Junior, for example.Unlike ATM or credit cards, an e-Reader card needs to be swiped slowly.Like credit cards, you need to treat them somewhat gently; any stray marks (such as writing something on the card) in the Dot Code area could mess up the data, rendering the card useless.Younger kids may need some assistance at first with swiping, but they'll get the hang of it quickly. The e-Reader has a small amount of internal memory, so if you load a game/program you like, you can keep it, at least until you want to swipe something else into it.
Also, some of the NES games aren't 100% perfect ... DK Junior's sequence of boards is wrong, and it seems to have gotten slightly squashed in order to fit onto the GBA screen, but neither of these detract seriously from the gameplay. In other words, it's as fun as I remember it.
It's too early to see how e-Reader will catch on.After all, Pokemon isn't as popular as it once was, and so far only Nintendo and Wizards of the Coast have any card support. But, as early adopters go, the e-Reader is a cheap investment whose potential uses are as unlimited as the imagination.

Product Description:
The e-Reader is an accessory for use with the Game Boy Advance that reads information from collectible trading cards and translates it on the GBA into standalone games or enhancements to some traditional games. The e-Reader connects into the GBA cartridge slot and can also connect to another GBA or even a GameCube. Players simply slide the paper cards, available for as low as $1.95, through the e-Reader much as you slide a credit card through a point-of-purchase machine at a grocery store. When you do this, the unit scans the codes imprinted on the card and stores the information in its 1-megabit flash ROM for as long as the power is on. Animal Crossing for the GameCube takes advantage of this technology, and many more uses are planned. This set includes the e-Reader unit and the e-Reader card for the NES version of Donkey Kong Jr.

Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable Review

Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The reason that I ended up buying the VGA cable was due to the fact that the component signal (both 720p and 1080i) is subject to overscan. This means that the screen "zooms in" slighty so that you are sure to see a complete picture with no black or static edges. This is a problem though with the Xbox 360 because it ends up cropping the image. For example, the HUD in GRAW is cutoff on the corners when using the component cables. This really bothered me so I gave the VGA a try and viola!

I can now go into the dashboard settings and specify 1360 x 768 which closely matches my LCD's native resolution of 1368 x 768.Thus, I am able to see the whole screen without any overscan/cropping.The only downside is that the overall image gets "washed out" when using the VGA cable. However, this is not really a big deal because most of the newer games (GRAW, Oblivion) have an in-game setting for brightness which you can turn down to eliminate the washed out look.

I highly recommend that you at least give the VGA cables a try.Depending on your TV, you may or may not like them.No big deal though because you can just return them. However, you may find that you really like them and will be glad that you tried them out!Check out my VGA vs Component pictures at http://spaces.msn.com/theshepherdsbag/photos/ and read about my detailed testing on my blog at http://spaces.msn.com/theshepherdsbag/blog/ and you can check out this xbox forum thread for further insights at http://forums.xbox.com/2885313/ShowPost.aspx

Lastly, I have the Samsung LNR238W and there is NO ghosting issues when using the VGA cable.

Sega Genesis 2 3 32x Nomad 9-pin Av Cables Video NEW Review

Sega Genesis 2 3 32x Nomad 9-pin Av Cables Video NEW
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My Sega CDX has one of the old 3-pin connector cables - that means if I moved the controller the wrong way or sneezed, I ran the risk of losing the picture or the sound whenever I hooked up this game system.

This cable worked right out of the box. It took about a minute to hook up, and the picture clarity has vastly improved. I know, it's a Sega CD, which has grainy video anyway...but it's clear grain!

I would highly recommend this cable for any retro gamers who own a Sega CDX, or any of the Sega Genesis 2 or 3 consoles.

Xbox 360 Breakaway Cable (Short Break-Away Cord for Xbox 360) Review

Xbox 360 Breakaway Cable

It works perfectly for what it's intended, couldn't ask for anything more. It works for my Dance Dance Revolution pad (DDR Universe 2 for the 360). It also works for my wired guitar.

The shipping was extremly fast, absolutly no problems.

The actual "dongle" is longer than I thought, about 7 inches or so, as I had worries it was going to be a tiny wire.

PS2 to PS3 Playstation Controller Adapter USB Converter Review

PS2 to PS3 Playstation Controller Adapter USB Converter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Quick and dirty, this is what you need to know about this adapter:

[*] I experienced some initial trouble using my PS3 controllers to play PS2 games, but have since found that they work for most games. So this USB adapter is NOT necessary to play all PS2 games on your PS3.

[*] This DOES enable use of your old PS2 analog controllers to play MOST PS3 games. However, any PS3 game requiring the Sixaxis functionality of the new PS3 controllers and some that require R2/L2 sensitivity will not function perfectly. Also, since PS2 controllers do NOT have the Playstation/Home button that PS3 controller's have, you cannot easily exit out of games to the PS3 menu screen as you can with PS3 controllers.

[*] This DOES enable use of your PS2 analog controllers to navigate the PS3 menu screens, PSN, internet browser, etc.

[*] This is NOT fully functional with your old PS2 Guitar Hero controller. It is partially functional, but that's not good enough for GH.

[*] This IS functional for using MOST PS2 accessories (eg, steering wheels, arcade sticks, DDR mats) on your PS3.But your device may not work 100% which is likely an issue with your device's compatibility with the PS3, not this adapter.

[*] You can order this directly from Eforcity, the manufacturer in CA, for a total of $6.25 through Amazon.Mine was packaged well and shipped very quickly. It arrived in just 2 days.

[*] A Playstation 3 Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller costs $50 & the 'old' Sixaxis cost ~$40-45.A PlayStation 2 Dualshock Controller Black only costs $20 + $6.25 for this adapter.Even a nice wireless PlayStation 2 Cordless Action Controller only costs $30.

I am very happy with the two eforcity adapters I purchased. They are small and simple, but they allow me to play old PS2 games on my new PS3 as well as use my old PS2 controllers with new PS3 games.

Hope this information is helpful. Please click 'Yes' if it is.

New USB Power Charge Cable Adapter for Nintendo NDSi Review

New USB Power Charge Cable Adapter for Nintendo NDSi
Average Reviews:

I bought this product in anticipation of a three-week stint in Italy during which I would not have access to an American AC plug. I am bringing my MacBook Pro and already have the Apple M8794G/B World Travel Adapter Kit to keep my notebook charged overseas. However, having very recently purchased a DSi (read: this product arrived before the DSi did) I wanted an inexpensive way to charge my DSi while I was away from home. Enter the USB Power Charge Cable Adapter, which seemed like a natural solution, and something that would suffice - but the product is so good that I felt the need to write a review. There are a couple things that make it excellent:
a) The price. It's right. Paying less than $6 shipped (in my case it arrived in 2 days with regular shipping from HDE) is spot on for a useful cable like this.
b) The make. This cable has a finish which feels remarkably similar to that of the DSi, and the coloring is a match for the matte black DSi. I am also happy to say that the product quickly and easily charges the DSi without any hassle.
