Playstation 3 Cordless MediaBoard Keyboard Review

Playstation 3 Cordless MediaBoard Keyboard
Average Reviews:

If you have a PS3 60GB system and are considering the utilization of the Wi-Fi feature for internet and online play, (which I presume is why you pay for the deluxe model) then YOU NEED this wireless keyboard.Sure, you can always navigate online with a game controller, but I'll wager that after 10 minutes of entering characters one at a time with a controller you will have had enough.

This keyboard is fully compatible with the PS3 console and comes with a mousing finger pad built right in to it.This eliminates the clumsiness of having to work a separate mouse on a flat surface. When you want to relax on your couch the last thing you want to do is have to lean over a table to work a mouse. With this board, you just sit back and do it all right from your lap.

The keyboard works on USB technology, not Bluetooth. It communicates seamlessly with the PS3 via a small USB dongle that plugs right into one of the 4 ports on the front of the console. The unit boasts a wireless range of over 30 feet.I use mine at a distance of about 20 feet and it works famously. There is no software to load onto the console whatsoever.Just plug the dongle in the console, pop 2 included AA batteries in the keyboard and go.

There is a Bluetooth keyboard available that is compatible with PS3 as well, but it is twice the price of this unit and if I'm not mistaken it has a separate mouse. So until something else comes along this is the one to get.

I installed this in my Mac Pro. I'm running a 2 x 3 Ghz Dual-Core intel Xeon computer, made in 2007. I installed it myself, which was easy enough, but I've worked with computers before, if you haven't I recommend to use A LOT OF PATIENCE. As it's tiny screws, and tiny plugs. But it's easy enough. It's running on the 802.11 g network, although it does run on any a/b/g/n. So if I buy the airport express, I can easily upgrade.
Very very happy that I have this, as now my internet doesn't need the cord. And if you live in a city, you can more than likely find a friendly person to share the internet with you and save 50 some bucks a month.

Buy this if you want wireless internet for a Mac Pro. So far I've seen them work in every Mac Pro, from the 2006 models, right up to the 2009 models.

This product is great for improving your Scrabble game, and it's also a lot of fun.You can play against 1-3 computer opponents with varying skill levels, or against real people.Unless you're in tournament mode, you can take advantage of features such as a word lister that generates suggestions for how to score the highest points with the tiles you have. There are also features such as instant summaries of letters remaining to be played.
My one annoyance is with the dictionary: it challenges some words you'd think it would accept, while accepting some words you'd think it would reject. If in doubt, doublecheck a word with it prior to finalizing your move, or add words to your own custom dictionary.
Overall, though, MacSoft's Scrabble exemplifies the benefits of converting a board game to software. No more tedious adding up points for tiles--the computer does it all for you!

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition Video Card 100-435058 Review

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition Video Card 100-435058

I was looking to purchase a replacement for the ATI Radeon 9700 that my Apple G4 came equipped with. I had tried going with a safe and cheaper route with the 9200, that I still believed would function properly, but this was an obviously inferior card that was highly noticeable on crashes and freezes with motion graphic programs and applications with timelines such as Flash, After Effects and even iMovie.

After speaking to some techs at ATI, they recommended the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition, which aside from an extra power cable to connect inside the machine, was pretty much the same as my previous 9700 if not better. Placing the card in was easy and results were instant.

Definitely a worthwhile card that will not let you down with motion graphic intensive programs. A great buy.

I got this for someone who acquired a MacBook Pro but is still on dial-up. (Recent-model MacBooks don't have internal modems.) It was literally plug and play. A big relief! Didn't even need to load any software. It's been a few weeks and there have been no problems at all getting online.

One side note: It needs to be plugged into the actual USB port vs. a USB hub as the hub isn't going to have enough power for it.

Dance Dance Revolution Extreme Bundle Review

Dance Dance Revolution Extreme Bundle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
An incredibly fun video game that gives a good workout just seems too cool to be true, but there is a game that has those attributes: DDR. This great game changed my life and turned me from a lazy guy playing computer all day to becoming a true athlete, as working out is so much fun after playing DDR!

Although DDR Extreme was a big disappointment for a Dance Dance Revolution installment for DDR experts, it's easily the best one for beginners with its familiar songs, easy game engine, and Beginner mode (which debuted on DDRMAX2).The menu isn't in the shape of the arcade DDR's, but in a new style that looks like a sideways version of the original DDR's menu.

Dance Dance Revolution Extreme and all the other DDR games out there are 2-D games (Except for the dancers in the background) with one major point: Dancing with your feet. You have a dance mat (or stage) where you tap your feet on the arrows planted on the mat at the same time as the matching arrow on the screen is inside the outlined arrow. There are five (or six) ratings you can get for your accuracy: Marvelous (Not on a regular game), Perfect, Great, Good (Which should really be Average), Almost, and Boo. You want to get the first ratings I listed, and not an Almost or Boo, or else your dance gauge (Which kind of shows your health) will start to slip until it runs out and you lose a song. At the end of the song, you can receive an overall grade, depending on your overall accuracy, of either an E (Which you get for failing a song), a D (Which you get for surviving, but receiving a poor score), a C, a B, an A, a double A, or a triple A (Which you get for receiving a perfect score). Even if this sounds cheesy at first, doing this to the exciting music in the background is actually extremely fun.

Four different difficulty levels exist on DDR Extreme (and a fifth one for a few songs): Beginner, Light, Standard, and Heavy (the fifth one is called Challenge/Oni). Prior to DDRMAX2, there was no Beginner mode, and only a few songs (like "Peace Out" and "Cutie Chaser Morning Mix") were easy enough to be beaten by beginners. I therefore only recommend this or DDRMAX2 if you're a beginner.

The mat that comes with the bundle is a soft plastic pad, and is therefore better suited for beginners than experts.I recommend using it until you're playing at the standard level, since by then you should be ready to handle an arcade-style metal mat, and besides, the plastic mat will be sliding around on you too much to let you pass a song.

When you first get the game, you start with 44 songs, and you can unlock 26 more songs for a grand total of 70 songs. To unlock the hidden songs, you must clear songs about 5 to 10 times. Once you do that, a new song is unlocked. The first song you can unlock is called Scorching Moon, and the last one you unlock is called The Legend of Max. You can also unlock new dancers for dancing in the background in songs without real music videos, but I never use characters (Having a character is optional).

If you play a regular game, you can, instead of simply select a song and dance; choose to play two alternate modes: Nonstop and Challenging mode. In Nonstop mode, you can play four songs in a row without stopping. Sadly, there's only a limited selection of lists of songs you can select from, but thankfully, you can choose from "Players Best", which includes the top 4 songs that you've selected the most. This mode was best in DDR Konamix because you could select which songs to be on a list. Challenging mode is hardly worth the trouble. You have four lives, and each time you get a Good or worse, you lose a life. This mode is very frustrating, and only those who can get AA's all the time will find it an attracting way to play.

The Party Mode, which is new for DDR Extreme, is an innovation to DDR.In fact, some of the games included aren't DDR-relative at all.It includes games where you (on the screen) shake coconuts out of a tree and get them (Coconut Panic), use your hands to bop a ball around a maze to hit every colored gem (Magic Ball), dance while watching yourself dance (See Me Dance), see yourself dance while you use your arms to wipe off scenery that blocks the screen, and use your hands as well as your feet to dance. These games are all very fun to play, but you'll need an Eyetoy in order to play most of theses games; the ones that don't require the Eyetoy (Feeding Time and Hyper Dash) are pretty boring and childish.

Along the way, you can unlock two new modes: Mission Mode and Endless mode. In Mission Mode, you dance to different songs with an unusual task to win. Be careful about the visual tricks that are used in many of the songs in Mission Mode. In Endless Mode, you keep dancing until you fail with a randomly chosen character. The songs that you dance to are randomly selected. The problem with it is that you're forced to have a character dance in the background and might end up with one you can't stand.

The Workout Mode in the game allows you to keep track of your fitness and allows you to figure out what you should be doing to keep yourself healthy. If it's on, you'll see how healthy of a workout you got after you finish dancing to a song. Your score will be better if you play fast songs like Drop Out or either of the Paranoia remixes, so play those songs if you want to get fit quickly.

The training mode is a mode where you can't unlock anything, but you can practice the different songs in the game without being stopped by failing and without the thrilling backgrounds. Unfortunately, in DDR Extreme, you can't slow down a song if you need to be able to study something fast and confusing. Even DDR Konamix had this feature.

Finally, I'll take you to the information mode, which gives info about all of the different songs in the game. It tells you if the song you're studying is from a previous DDR game or not, what you should try to do while dancing to the song, or what kind of music it is. According to it, plenty of songs from Dance Dance Revolution Konamix have been brought back, but only three songs have returned from DDRMAX2. But why is this 2-D game that has the same goal over and over again so great? Well, there are certainly several reasons why:

1. DDR Extreme has a total of 70 different types of songs to choose from. You can find the type of music that's best for you. From a typical energetic dance song (B4U), to a song that's easy to recognize (YMCA, Waiting For Tonight, Like A Virgin), to a jazzy song (On The Jazz, Funk Boogie), to a Japanese pop song (Firefly, Pink Rose), to a supercharged song full of energy (Drop Out, I Feel...) to a song that combines a whole bunch of styles together (JaneJana, Do Me HIGEO Mix, Make It Better), to a theme song from a movie (Never Ending Story, Enter The Dragon) to even a classic song from previous generations of DDR (.59, Drop The Bomb), there's destined to be a song that you'll enjoy.

2. The replay value to this game is incredible, since you can build up your mad skills from beginner to expert, trying to successfully receive all Perfects on songs. You won't want to stop!

3. If you like video games, but you're out of shape, this is a game that can help knock off your weight and keep you fit. I've lost six pounds playing this game since November to December. I've suddenly started to love working out ever since I started playing this game. Seriously, your life will be a lot better after you're fit.

Then again, there are some downsides to this game, but minor downsides:

1. The host of this game gets on your nerves easily. Fortunately, you can shut him off when you're dancing, but not when it's most annoying: When you fail a song. His quote, "W-w-what?" is super annoying, as when he speaks in Japanese.

2. It's hard to find a dance mat that works well. Even the Ignition 2.0 Pad broke down twice within about a couple of weeks for me. It might've been because I was tapping too hard on the arrows, but it still might break down quickly.

3. DDR Extreme for US isn't based on the arcade version, and very few DDR Extreme (arcade) songs are included on the home version ("321Stars", "A", "JaneJana", etc.). Why no "Bag", "1998", "Speed Over Beethoven", and "Paranoia Eternal" (which should've been on DDRMAX2) instead of "Paranoia Survivor"? Not even the licensed songs from the arcade like "We Will Rock You" are on. Konami should release a DDR Konamix 2, a game that should include all of those missed songs from DDR Extreme (arcade) that used DDR Extreme's (arcade) game engine and should keep the DDR experts into DDR.

Anyway, here's the song list included in DDR Extreme, as well as grades for them and comments about what they sound like:

(Songs with * are ones that must be unlocked)

1. .59: A (Exciting)
2. *321Stars: A- (This sounds silly. It was a classic in the arcades, and can be extremely fun to dance to.)
3. *A: A (Seems to be pretty darn popular, probably because of its challenge and energy)
4. A Stupid Barber: A- (Strange but interesting euro pop)
5. *Absolute: A (A nice blast of typical DJ Taka sound)
6. *B4U: A- (Awesome techno song about DDR)
7. *B4U (B4 Za Beat Mix): A (A more energetic version of B4U)
8. Bad Routine: C+ (So-so house music)
9. Believe: D (Don't like licensed songs much)
10. Bizarre Love Triangle: B+ (But this is an exception)
11. *Can't Stop Falling In Love (Speed Mix): A (Feel the strength of this song!)
12. Diving: B+ (Deep euro trance music)
13. Do Me (H.I.G.E.O. Mix): B (Groovy house music)
14. Don't Clock Me: C- (Okay old skool song plagued by bad lyrics)
15. Drop Out: A++...Read more›

BTC 9019URF Wireless Multimedia USB Keyboard w/ Dual Mode Joystick Mouse Review

BTC 9019URF Wireless Multimedia USB Keyboard w/ Dual Mode Joystick Mouse
Average Reviews:

This will not be your deskop keyboard replacement, there are much better (although more expensive) options for that.To control the PC in your living room, however, the one that you have connected to your TV to watch all those torrents on a large screen while mindlessly reclining in your lazy-boy there is simply no better option.
First there is the pointing device: obviously mice don't have a place in the coach, and trackballs and touchpads have to be "cranked" a number of times in order to get the pointer from one end of the screen to the other; with a joystick it is just a matter of pushing once and letting the device do its thing until you reach the desired icon or widget. Then there is the keyboard: you need something reasonably comfortable to enter URLs and search terms, type the occasional credit card number or answer your email, but you probably won't try to do word-processing, 3D-modelling or serious video gaming in-between your video clips. And last, but not least, there is wireless: unlike products from software monopolists become hardware ergonomists, this keyboard will actually connect from your lap to its base on the stereo rack 8 or so feet away.As a bonus, the packaging looks and feels sturdy enough (but I haven't subjected it to the kids-and-dog sress test) and the multimedia keys work with iTunes in my Mac ... Can't beat all that convenience anywhere else at that low price point!

I found this to be a great addition to the game play. New neighborhoods - FUN new jobs. The skins and furniture are a lot better. The robot to replace the maid is annoying. Yay for the vibrating bed, finally my sims can get the luvin' they deserve - but watch out you might get a baby! The clowns, genie, and arguing with death really ad a new (but bizarre) twist. However, the new wall papers are TACKY - perfect to create your own love shack. I do recommend this to rekindle interest in the game. Microsoft Reclusa Gaming Keyboard (Black) Review

Microsoft Reclusa Gaming Keyboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(updated 11/21/2008)

This is a great keyboard. After a month of use, I've gotten used to the extra keys (at first, I was pressing macro keys instead of Ctrl/Shift) and I love the visual impact of its sleek design. The "throw" of the keys is perfect -- not too much like a membrane, and fairly quiet, but just the right amount of tactile response.

The backlighting is similarly impressive, enabling you to type/play in the dark (even touch-typists need to see, sometimes). The USB cord docking feature is very nice -- it allows you to have the cord snake out of three convenient positions along the backside of the keyboard.

I haven't really noticed an enhanced response rate between the keys and software, but it's certainly no slouch.

The volume control (top right dial) is a welcome addition -- but why not a "mute" button? I can't find a way to program a "mute" command via the Reclusa software. Now for some downsides.

The macro software is somewhat lackluster. It switches on-the-fly for running programs, but there are no presets (other than the defaults) -- you'll have to hunt for .EXE files and assign keys to their profiles. To top it off, there are only 5 profiles available. Most gamers would probably prefer dozens. One key ejects the CD/DVD -- not helpful during a game, to be sure. The mail/web browser keys are in the same boat -- why enable them for full-screen game software?

The ESC key is in an awkward position. It's somewhat blocked by the (otherwise pretty) top layer of translucent plastic.

It's too easy to hit the right (or left) side buttons with a mouse. Disabling them helps, somewhat.

To top it off, connecting a Razer Copperhead (mouse) in one of the USB "convenience" on the top left/right causes the keyboard to remain unresponsive when rebooting the host PC. Once fully booted, connecting the mouse works. Connecting other common devices (like a flashcard reader) sometimes results in a "low power" message in Windows XP.If not for the dismal support software and the fact that mine came with what looks like a small "blister" or crack under the top layer of translucent plastic, I'd call this an excellent gaming keyboard. If there was a chance the software would be improved, over time, I'd mark it higher, but most companies release completely new versions of hardware with software, nowadays, opting to never improve on the original versions for current customers. 3/5 stars, 4 if they improve the drivers.

*update: driver updated, fixes a few things. Wrist pad has since broken off -- build quality may be somewhat lackluster, here. Lighting is still excellent, but I notice a significant brightness difference between the (always-on) NumLock indicator and the (never on) CAPS LOCK lights. If your PC is on 24/7, the keyboard stays lit, so LED brightness apparently degrades, over time.

The Sims Expansion: Hot Date (Mac) Review

The Sims Expansion: Hot Date
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, I think my rating is more like 3.5 stars, not 4. But figured to round up anyway.
I loved the Sims original game, loved the At Large expansion pack and was thrilled when I first heard about Hot Date. But after purchasing and playing with it for several weeks, I'm starting to have my doubts with this particular expansion pack. Obviously the best part is for the Sims to go Downtown. That is pretty much tbe bang-of-the-buck for this game and yes, brings a whole new level of play into the Sims.
The benefits of Downtown:
1.) You can create your own shopping boutique, ice cream/pizza/fun parlor, restaurant, park, dance or disco, that type of thing. If you love building things and putting together the furniture, painting the walls, etc. like me, you'll be VERY happy with this and can build all day if you'd like.
2.) The downtown already created by Aspyr is pretty nice, they are very thorough and detailed down to the public restroom so there's a lot to see, do and socialize among other Sims. It's visually appealing.
3.) Freely interacting with so many other Sim-citizens, and a number of them aren't even in your neighborhood (so spare you the time to manually invite them to a party at your home). Which is great if you need to gain friends to advance your career.
4.) You have new furniture (eg: love hot tub), building options and characters to choose from with the addition of Hot Date. You also have more commands between Sims now because the goal is to find a potential mate (new kissing, cuddling, fighting, conversation options).
BUT... here I think are the drawbacks from the game.
1.) I have a G4 with lots of RAM so it's pretty good in loading programs. However, Sims Hot Date stalls and chugs like crazy when you are going downtown, especially if you have a lot of Sims. It's very distracting and prevents you from really having a good time playing or having that "Sims experience."
2.) You cannot build anything else other than dating-intended businesses or places for your Sims. Maybe this is a lame statement from me since the point of the game IS to find romance and land a mate, but the quest of dating gets boring rather quickly... (like you can only buy lingerie, teddy bears or flowers...ugh) There is a number of objects you can't put in your downtown business for some reason as well.
3.) Your Sims become a LOT more testy and harder to "match up" after installing Hot Date. This is no joke. It's like 2 or 3 times harder to have the Sims love each other, even more for them to marry. Pretty discouraging if that's what this pack is supposed to be about.
4.) Your Sims can't, repeat CAN'T stay overnight in downtown. No hotels are available. So yes, they will eventually get burned out, lose energy/comfort points. And I notice even if you have a couple of Sims go together to Downtown, you can only control one of them when you get there. (unless I'm an isolated case?)
Anyway, hope that this review was honest enough for you. I still enjoy it for the additions it brings in the buildings and furniture, but otherwise I think it may be better to get the other expansion packs instead (Livin' Large or Unleashed). And either way, make sure you have tons of memory.

The Sims 2 Special DVD Edition Review

The Sims 2 Special DVD Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, after two days of owning Sims 2 I think that I have gotten enough play time in to write a comprehensive review.(...)

Alright, on to the review.I have both positive and negative things to say about Sims 2.Sorry, this is probably going to be a long review.

POSITIVE:

*Maxis has thrown a bit of Sim City into the mix.You can either play one of the pre-created neighborhoods or you can start from scratch. This option is fantastic! You can choose the layout, build houses or place houses already built onto the lots.No more wondering if you already have a house at lot #5 before downlaoding because you can place the house ANYWHERE you want!

*While playing the game you can connect to Maxis (if you have internet connection) and dowload new Maxis created items directly into the game.

*The Wants and Fears addition to Sims 2 is alot of fun.Even if they tend to get repetitive.

*It's alot easier for your Sims to Socialize in Sims 2.Now they will receive telephone calls from people who just want to talk, they can chat online and send and receive e-mails.Plus your Sims will sometimes bring people home with them from work or school.AND you can now socialize with (and even marry) what were previously non-interactive character like cashiers, the maid, and the paper deliverer.

*The Sims now have days off from work and vacation days.Needless to say, this creates alot more free time for your Sims to concentrate on other things.

*You can distinguish between family members and roommates. So no more awkward "Flowers in the Attic" moments.

*I haven't actually built a house but I love having the option of building more than 2 floors.Plus you can now shape the roof for more realistic and more luxurious houses.

*You can choose from a whole outfit or you can mix and match tops and bottoms. And with a mirror you can change the color and cut of your Sims hair and add and remove make-up and facial hair.

*Some reviewers were discussing the load time of Sims 2.I am running it on a Compaq Presario X1000 Notebook computer and so far the game has not crashed on me once.Furthermore, I haven't had any problems (crosses fingers) with the load times.I suppose the true test will be after I begin adding more objects, clothing, and genetics to the game.

*I was happy to see that you can still create community lots.Right now it's limited to basically parks, grocery stores, and clothing botiques but I'm sure restaurants and such will be coming with an expansion pack.

*Having your Sims age is a great addition to the game.Plus children now have alot more functions. They won't just stand around all day with their stupid "Ha-ha Who-who" and annoy the crap out of you (experienced Simmers know what I'm talking about).Ah yes, and teenagers can now get jobs!No free rides for for anyone anymore!

*The Sims act alot more natural in Sims 2.Like if one Sims is reading a book, they will look up if someone sits next to them, sometimes even talk to them.Their actions are much more fluid and natural and less robotic. In general, the Sims act alot more like real people than in the original Sims (it's especially noticable with the children).

*There are now little multiple choice scenarios that your Sims will experience.Your Sim will be given two or three choices and depending on which option you choose the outcome can be positive or negative. You could, for instance, be promoted for the choice you make or lose an entire day's worth of pay (These are just a couple I have personally experienced).

NEGATIVE:

*Creating family relationships isn't as liberal as I was expecting it to be.For instance, if you have an Adult Sim and a Teenage Sim living in a household, the Teenage Sim HAS to be the child of the Adult Sim.This was a problem for a family I was trying to create where a Teenage Sim lived with her Aunt.I haven't tested it yet, but it might be possible to do this the long way (create two sisters and a teenage child and whack the mother).I suppose it would just be easier if you could create them from the start.Same thing I noticed with an elderly couple whom I wanted to have an adult son and a teenage son.The only way to make the family possible was to make the teenager the son of the adult son :(But still, I'm thankful you can distinguish whether your Sims are roomies or siblings. It spares those awkward moments when your Sibling Sims start flirting withor making out with each other (Eww)

*The Sims age really fast!Luckily there's a cheat code you can use to turn off the aging process.

*Furnishings available in the game seem really limited and eventhough you can pick and choose from a variety of colors, nothing seems to match.Same thing with clothing. It seems like there's just like 10 outfits in 10 different colors.I'm sure Maxis is leaving this open for downloadables and expansion packs.

*Not all the modifying options available in Sims 2 Body Shop are actually available in the game when creating families. So I would suggest creating the faces for your families in Body Shop before playing the game and then they will be automatically added as a head choice in the game.

*For the most part, I am enjoying the 3D graphics. It took me awhile to get adjusted to the zoom, but now it's alot easier. The only problem I have is that some household items (like refridgerators and windows) don't go invisible while zooming past them and they can sometimes block your view. It's not really a big issue though.

So these are a few of my first impressions of The Sims 2.Perhaps I will write another review when I have gotten more play time in, but so far I am not disappointed one bit with my purchase. So, if you are a fan of the Sims or have just been wanting to check out what the buzz was all about, I would highly recommend adding Sims 2 to your collection.

The Sims 2 Bon Voyage Review

The Sims 2 Bon Voyage
Average Reviews:

This is truly the most fun expansion pack that I have bought.

However, issues that I had with Seasons and video card compatibility were not solved with this expansion pack as promised.

So, if you have a new Intel iMac with ATI Radeon HD 2600, do not buy this expansion pack until a patch comes out.Aspyr has been extremely slow in solving these issues and doesn't seem to care a great deal.

The EA game issues have not been solved either, such as the NPC overload issue. However, EA has come out with a PC patch that fixes many of the issues.I'm still waiting on Aspyr to come out with a Mac patch.

Otherwise, this is a fantastic game with great new clothes, objects, neighborhoods and game play.I strongly recommend the Bon Voyage EP to anyone with a Power PC Mac.

The Sims 2 Nightlife Expansion Pack Review

The Sims 2 Nightlife Expansion Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been playing Sims 2 on the PC since it was introduced and own all 3 upgrades. Now, I've bought everything available for the Mac to play when I travel. Frankly, I wouldn't want to play Sims 2 without Nightlife.

Dating is the most important capability Nightlife brings to the game. I find it tedious to build and maintain relationships with the base game. Dating lets you monitor both sides of a social relationship, and also tends to focus the participating sims on each other. This makes it easier to build strong relationships and to fulfill high-value wants and earn aspiration points. If you have lots of aspiration points, you don't have to resort to cheats to maintain needs or to keep sims from aging before you want them to. The first thing you'll want to do for any sim you play is to give them at least one strong dating relationship so they can top off their aspirations when they need to. Let's face it, it's easier to face going to work when you had a little hot romance the previous night.

The essential dating tool is a car. Now you can go out or drive to work in your own car. Picking up your date in a hot car immediately improves the date score. But the real reason for owning a car is that if two sims are seeking initimate reactions and a car is on the lot, chances are they'll want both WooHoo and WooHoo in Car, which nets you double rewards for a single interaction. If you have a car, a little time on a date can quickly make the sims' aspirations go platinum while building up lots of aspiration rewards that let you buy Energizers, Elixer of Love dispensers, and Thinking Caps. With those, you can make your sims accomplish almost anything you want.

Chemistry is a new Nightlife feature that can be a lot of fun. By defining Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs for sims, chemistry simulates what we all feel, greater attraction for some people, less for others. NPCs have their own Turn-On's and Turn-Offs, but can specify them for sims you play and change them when you want. When you let sims function autonomously, chemistry works with memories and other attributes to make their interactions more complex. When you control the sims, it's easier or more difficult to establish friendships and romances, depending on the chemistry they sims feel for each other.

New with Nightlife is the ReNuYuSenso Orb, which lets you change sims' Aspirations as well as their Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs. With the Orb, a sim can start out with a Family aspiration and change to a Knowledge aspiration when the kids are in school. In other words, your sims deepest desires can change as they mature. I use the Orb a lot.

Nightlife includes Downtown, which provides a many more destinations the sims can travel to, including restaurants, clubs, and bowling alleys. Sims 2, even with University, is a bit dull in terms of social destinations. You'll find dating a lot more interesting in Nightlife. You can also send sims on friendly outings. Outings are more challenging than dates since you're managing interactions between more than two sims, but they enable your sims to meet strangers and start building relationships with large numbers of people. When your sim is invited out on an outing, they'll arrive at a destination with several friends, some of which are likelyk to be strangers. If your sim is on a career path that requires lots of friends, outings can make it much easier to get the friendships started. (I still miss some of the things you could do in Sims 1 parks, such as sailing boats. In Sims 2, parks are pretty dull places by comparison.)

In summary, the emphasis of Nightlife is on sim's social lives. Relationships are richer and the range of social interactions is much more extensive. I'd hate to play The Sims 2 without Nightlife.
