Jurassic Park III: Park Builder Review

Jurassic Park III: Park Builder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game takes after games like Sim Them park and Rollercoaster Tycoon. You must create and manage a theme park that is based on dinosaurs, like the movies were supposed to do. You can manage restaurants, shops, attractions, and dino health. There is some link cable support, as you can trade the DNA of the 100 something dinosaurs in this game.
In this game you can choose the entry fee, feed and track dinosaurs in your park, and come in complete control over Jurassic Park. This game should be a hit, in that it relates to all the Simulaters for PC and Mac.

Dino Master: Dig Discover Duel Review

Remeber Qix? You get a big field where you move a little guy to swipe portions of this field while avoiding attacks. You do so until there is a small enough portion of field and then you get rated. Yeah... you remember, this game remembers too which is why they use it as the way you get new fossils.
There's a decent selection of levels to choose form and a multitude of baddies to try to stop you from stealing the field (All giant bugs for some reason) making that portion of the game fun. Just like it was way back when.
The problem arises when you try to use the dino battle system. It can be described as slightly more advanced than rock/paper/scissors. As a matter of fact it's so bad that if you really want to train little dinos for battles I'd pick up Fossil League DS Instead. It has level gains, exploration, and teams of dinos to train and battle.

this is great for the Qix rip-off but leave it there, or at least try it first.

I've played DTD online at Kongregate until my fingers bled.I love it, and the challenges it presents. So I was glad to see there was a version of the game for DS, so I could play it at times when I didn't have access to my computer.

If you're buying this for something new, you're likely to be disappointed. But as a new way to play the same game, it's a very faithful version of the game, with a few slight twists on how the game works.

Definitely one of the best TD games out there. Now if only they would bring a version of Gemcraft to the DS...

Hamsterz Life Review

Hamsterz Life
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
According to the Q&A area of Ubi-soft's website, there is no Ham-country per se.They say that the cage is Ham-country because it is a school (you teach the Hamsterz there), a bakery (you feed them from the food menu), etc.I think I would be happier had they just said that it wasn't included in the programming rather than trying to make it sound like the customers are all mistaken. Some people are going around claiming that you have to play the game for 72 hours to get Ham-country.However, I have it from the source that this is false and I don't recommend wasting 3 days of your life unless you truly enjoy the game.

Now, for a review of what is included in the game.I find it cute and my children all find it fun to play in small doses.A few of the mini games could be frustrating for younger children (and Mom), but my 7 year-old is able to tackle all of them.He is a very computer literate child though, so your mileage may vary. All in all, the controls are very intuitive, so there shouldn't be a problem.

You can not buy food and supplies. To get them you have to play mini games (only when the Hamster is in the mood) or find presents. When the Hamster asks if you want to play, you will see musical notes.Go to the main menu (i.e. so the Hamster is on the top screen) and press the button that appears with a musical note in it.If the kids have trouble playing the mini-games to get food and items, encourage them to use "Outing" then "Open Cage" to collect presents in the "bedroom."If your Hamster is hungry or thirsty and you have no food or drink items, I suggest adopting another Hamster. When you switch with "Hammy" the hunger and cleanliness of the Hamsterz will revery to "normal/ normal."That way you can get more supplies without having a tortured and complaining hamster (did I mention they complain?). You can have more than one Hamster, but only play with one at a time and they do not interact with each other.

Speaking of complaining... One of my favorite features of the game is that the Hamsterz will converse with you.My kids love it and it encourages my 5 and 4 year-olds to read. They have already picked up on some phrases like "Good Evening."With that in mind, the breeds all have different dialog accents (Australian, baby-talk, etc) so you may have to explain this to early readers. My kids get the biggest kick out of the voice recognition. This feature is very well done.We have had no problems at all with settings, background noise, or changing settings for more than one user (completely unnecessary for Hamsterz).

The holidays included with the game have strange (often culinary) names, so expect questioning as to why your child doesn't have A holiday from school on "Miso Day" or "Strawberry Day."

All in all, this is a fun "pet" game.My kids love it with or without Ham-country and I let them "take out" their hamsterz to play with and take care of for a half hour a night after dinner. That way, they are getting the most out of the program without getting easily bored. They received it on Christmas and still look forward to Hammy time every night. The only reason I have it less than 5 stars is because I do not care for the misinformation on their advertising regarding "Ham-country."

Pokemon HeartGold Version Review

Pokemon HeartGold Version
Average Reviews:

I bought both Heart Gold and Soul Silver for my nine-year-old boy.I have lupus with photosensitivity and don't get to spend a lot of time outside with him, and I don't like to just plug him into a video game, so I compromise by playing video games with him. Those games have to be interactive and interesting enough to not drive me crazy. The ds pokemon games take care of both those concerns.

He chose Soul Silver for his game, so this one is mine. It's been years since I looked at the old Gameboy Color games, but this one seems to be just like the old one, except for the enhancements that came along with the double screen and the touch pad.The music includes more recent themes as well, but it makes me happy to hear the older ones.

My son absolutely loves the pokewalker.I love the idea of the pokewalker, but I haven't used mine, yet.We have used his to take his pokemon down to the park to take advantage of the not-too-bright sunlight.

The figurine is cute, but Ho-Oh is not as well-crafted as Lugia.Lugia is magnificent and is rendered consistently with the better graphic capabiiities of later games.Ho-Oh looks like he's straight off the Gameboy Advance. At best.I'm still very happy with the purchase, though.

Fossil Fighters Review

Dinosaurs + Fighting.
How could this be bad? Well, it's failed miserably before, and I'm sure a lot of people have since been a bit cautious with this combination.

So, no, I wasn't expecting anything ground-breaking, but I was hopeful that it would be decent fun.
Well, let me tell you, this game is much more than it let's on.
First impression:
It's slow to begin.
Dialogue and more dialogue. But it wasn't at all boring. Surprisingly, the game has a lot of personality and humor. Once you learn what you'll be doing and how to do it, you won't want to put it down.
Anywhere outside of town there will appear a radar on the top screen to find fossils in the ground (while in town, the top screen is a very helpful map), you dig them up, and use your stylus to break away the rock from the fossil. The stylus will act as a hammer or a drill. If the fossil is a skull, you get a new Vivosaur! If you get a body, arm, or leg fossil, it will add power to your Vivosaur.
Each Vivosaur has an element. An element is stronger and weaker than another element. Basic stuff. You have a team of 5 you carry around with you. You can fight with up to 3 Vivosaurs at once. On the lower screen you see their positions and their condition, and on the top screen you see their 3D form either attacking the enemie's team or waiting for a command. There's even little commentators announcing what is happening in the battle (in text form). This bit of the game is very reminiscent of Pokemon Stadium, which I loved.
I don't know if I'm alone in this, but I wasn't expecting anything more than choosing a dinosaur and fighting another dinosaur, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was entirely wrong. This is a very, very long adventure game. So far I have clocked a little over 15 hours and there's no hint to an end in sight. You travel to different parts of the island to find different fossils and take on new missions.
This game is easily addictive, so be careful.
Also, there is little to no necessary grinding. Do so if you want, it will certainly make your Vivosaurs stronger, but collecting different fossil parts will make them strong enough for any battle.
Yes, this is an EASY game. I haven't had much trouble with anything. But that isn't the point. It's a fun ride, easy on the eyes, and never boring or repetitive. If you're a "hardcore gamer" and enjoy "mature games for mature gamers like myself" then this is not for you.

Gameplay: Fun, creative, and addictive. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it doesn't try to be anything it isn't.

Graphics: They're fantastic. It feels like I'm playing an old N64 game. It easily rivals Animal Crossing: Wild World.
Now, you have to understand, the DS is limited to a certain extent, so next to a handheld like the PSP, the Nintendo DS is almost laughable. However, graphics aren't everything, and it doesn't take away from the quality of the game. If anything, the game has a sort of nostalgic feel to it.

Overall: You can always tell when developers love the games they make. A lot of thought was put into this game and it shows.

Product Description:
Finding, Cleaning, Collecting and Fighting Dinosaurs

Fossil Fighters blends the timeless human fascination with dinosaurs with the fun of building a collection. The game lets players build a collection of more than 100 fantastical dinosaurs known as "vivosaurs." This new game incorporates elements of discovery, tactics, and strategy as players try to get the best vivosaurs on their teams to battle it out on the field.

Players dig for fossils and use the touch screen of the Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi system to hammer, chip, drill and brush away the bits of rock around the fossil. When their efforts result in the buildup of dust, players blow into the Nintendo DS microphone to blow the dust away.

The game rates players on how well they handle the fossils during the cleaning process. The more carefully and completely a player cleans a fossil, the more powerful the vivosaur will be in battle. Vivosaurs can also gain more power through battles.

Players must collect various parts of each vivosaur. The head must be found first to bring a vivosaur to life while the body, arms and legs can be added to increase its power on the battlefield and imbue it with special powers.

The game features an engrossing role-playing storyline and vast environments for players to explore. Players can connect wirelessly with friends to battle or trade their fossils.

I'm 32 years old, and I bought this game for myself.I like drawing and like Spongebob, so this game looked like it'd be good.Honestly, it was better than expected.I was able to draw in detail and I got a kick seeing my doodles come to life. This is a game that is really aimed at kids, and if your a "serious" adult gamer, you probably won't like it because it's more drawing than game...but I still liked it.For one level, I got to draw a funny looking car, and I even made the tires look crooked and wobbly on purpose, then I watched as it came to life...it was really funny and enjoyable, and brought out the kid in me.

My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie's Party Review

My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie's Party
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is a rather simple one.My 4 year old completed the game the first time within two hours. However, she continues to play it over and over, asking me to 'erase' so she can start it again from the beginning.

The player walks Pinkie Pie around town. The top screen is a map and the next goal is always marked there so you know what to do next. The town is made up of some of the various buildings in Ponyville, most are directly taken from the toyline and my daughter was excited to be able to go inside Pinkie Pie's balloon house, Starsong's bus and the Sweet Shop. The object of the game is to find all 20 presents and 12 puzzle pieces so Pinkie Pie can have her birthday party. This is done by playing mini games and finding presents "hidden" in various places on the game map.Everything is really small and kept compact.Pinkie is controlled with the D-Pad and most mini games use the stylus. There is a bit of text, but the important things are told in voice as well as text, or easily discovered by walking around so even if your child cannot read yet, with a little help things are easy to figure out.

The mini games are really simple but cute.My daughter especially liked the one where you circle butterflies with your stylus and put the seeds in the ground for flowers to grow (dont let the gophers eat your seeds!)

Another nice addition is having the actual voice actress for Pinkie Pie do her voice (the voice for Pinkie in the current pony movies and toys such as the Sing and Dance Pinkie Pie)and including the "real" My Little Pony theme song. Also after you find all the presents you get to "open" them and each one does something different.A simple memory card game, drums to play with, bubbles to blow, a bag that has a string you can pull and make a rainbow come out, etc.

Recommended for My Little Pony fans around the age of 4-6.An older child will likely get bored more easily since there isn't THAT much to doin Ponyville.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers Review

Bakugan Battle Brawlers
Average Reviews:

Luckily I rented this title from Gamefly and didn't buy it.My son is really into Bakugan so I know how the rules of the card/toy game go.This game has a big departure from the standard rules.Your Bakugan's G-Power really doesn't come into play much because victory is determined on how quickly and accurately you can use the stylus. The G-Power will give you an edge but you can't win a battle without doing the "mini-game" with the stylus (rubbing it back and forth quickly, tapping icons, or following an icon around a track). This eliminates some of the strategy from this game that is present in the card/toy game.Still... I found it mildly addictive but I can see that I'd get tired of it quickly.Kids who are fans of the TV show will probably love it because it has their favorite characters and their Bakugan. However, kids who play the card game will probably be dissatisfied because of the way the game departs from the rules they know.

Product Description:
Based on the wildly popular cardgame and television show, Bakugan: Battle Brawlers, is a videogame experience requiring skill, strategy and imagination. Featuringa fierce assortment monsters, uncanny powers and amazing environmentsin an alternate dimension called Vestroia, the game lets you and yourown unique Bakugan join forces with Dan and his fellow Brawlers asthey battle to save Vestroia and ultimately, Earth from destruction.

Story
The story of Bakugan: Battle Brawlers revolves around a set of metallic cards that mysteriously fall from space. On finding them, kids from around the planet discover that the cards also provide access to a variety of monsters that can be pitted against each other and so develop a game based on the cards and monsters and set up tournaments. One group of these kids, who name themselves the "Bakugan Battle Brawlers" and who are led by Dan, find that the cards also serve as a link to a parallel dimension known as Vestroia. Here they discover that the game and its monsters that they are dedicated to mastering is tied to an imbalance of positive and negative energy in Vestroia. This imbalance must be corrected to avoid unspeakable consequences for Vestroia, and since a link has been made to the Earth, eventually the kids' home as well.

Roll with the Battle Brawlers.
Viewlarger. Gameplay
Those who have played the popular Bakugan card game might alreadyhave an idea of how gameplay works in Bakugan: Battle Brawlers, but the video game adds several new elements. The game is somethingof a cross between marbles and a live action card game. To get startedyou'll first need to enter your name, select an attribute and createyour character. Then you'll be ready to explore the world of Bakugan. If you can't wait to start battling your friends, then head straightto the Battle Arena, but if you want to be the best you have to learnthe rules. The goal of Bakugan: Battle Brawlers is to win thegame by collecting three "gate cards." Gate cards are collected bywinning battles against opponents. As a starting move each playersets down one metallic gate card. Then you're ready to roll your Bakugan, which is in the form of a ball. After throwing you can steer yourBakugan around the environment so that it lands on the perfect cardand collects powerups. The aim is to get your Bakugan to stand ona card, and that happens when they roll over it slowly. Once the Bakuganstands, it will transform into Battle Mode. Now you're ready to battle.A battle begins when two Bakugan from different players stand on thesame gate card. The gate card then opens and both bakugan transforminto Monster Mode, and are ready to fight. The gate card can add "G-Power"to a Bakugan according to its world attribute (color) and can alsochange the rules of the battle. Players can also boost their G-powerby doing well in battle. The Bakugan with the highest G-power at theend of the battle wins.

After battling, you can also use the points you have won to upgrade your Bakugan, acquire new in-game items, engage in Tag Team or Battle Royale action, or hone your skills by practicing your moves and strategy with Dan.

I loved Cradle of Rome, and this game is a fantastic sequel!Egypt is identical in format. You get to build your own civilization by earning gold and resources through game play - match at least three symbols to clear the blue tiles from the board. The symbols are new, vibrant and beautiful, and for a little extra fun when you've finished clearing tiles, you get a lapis lazuli scarab beetle which has to be dropped off the board before your water pitcher timer runs empty!

The tile swapping movement is smooth as silk in this game, I noticed it immediately.New symbols fall in fast like silky lightning. This game is very nicely done, and is already a must play for me all the way through to the end. It's highly addictive and gorgeous.....if you love Jewel Quest or other gem swapping puzzle games, this one is outstanding!

This review was written before the game was finshed - I've been playing it about 3 days and I'm pretty far along I think.

I bought this game thinking that it would be like Imagine Fashion Designer New York which I loved. Well I was wrong. The New York game gives a job list which I like better. In World Tour there are certain catagories that you have to make clothing into and there are a lot of stupid directions that are hard to remember. If you don't remember them you have to go back and listen to all of the directions all over again.

The back of the box and front even looked good, but of course I was wrong there too.

Well I don't hateit I just think it could be more interesting. The game to me seems to be ALOT less fun than Imagine Fashion Desinger New York, but on the bright side of things it has more options than New York like more choices of blush, nail polish, clothing patterns (the other game doesn't have patterns). It also has a few more interesting little scenes like short little talking parts, but there are too many little talking parts and sometimes they are too long.

I just don't like the "way" they make you play - the way things are "layed out".Everything is in one floor and you have to keep sliding the screen to find what you want.New York has an elevator to use to go to where you need - like hair, makeup etc.

I would rather spend my money on New York.

Shame on the UBISoft for failing to describe ALL of the features of this game! And, for recommending it for ages as young as 5 years old.My 8-year old daughter LOVES this game.I thought "Great! She has another outlet for her creativity."Then, she invited me to watch the action as she completed tasks . . . The tasks ARE fun.I was enjoying watching until "Mark" started telling my daughter's character - "Emma" - that he was in love with her and wanted to be her boyfriend."Emma" then had to decide whether to take on a boyfried at this time in her career, or stay focused.Next, a male "Director of Development" asked "Emma" if she was having "any problems" implying that she could confide in him and he would help.(I have to admit this creeped me out!)In my opinion, these scenarios/decisions are WAY TOO GROWN-UP for those under dating age!My daughter is very perceptive and I found myself having to explain office politics/pitfalls that she shouldn't have to think about for a long time.

Bottom line:The manufacturer's description and rating imply one type of game. The actual game is far more "mature".Parents, think carefully about whether these scenarios are appropriate for your child if they're not dating yet.Try to preview the game if you can.
