The Sims 2 Bon Voyage Review

However, issues that I had with Seasons and video card compatibility were not solved with this expansion pack as promised.

So, if you have a new Intel iMac with ATI Radeon HD 2600, do not buy this expansion pack until a patch comes out.Aspyr has been extremely slow in solving these issues and doesn't seem to care a great deal.

The EA game issues have not been solved either, such as the NPC overload issue.However, EA has come out with a PC patch that fixes many of the issues.I'm still waiting on Aspyr to come out with a Mac patch.

Otherwise, this is a fantastic game with great new clothes, objects, neighborhoods and game play.I strongly recommend the Bon Voyage EP to anyone with a Power PC Mac.

Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe (Jewel Case) Review

(More customer reviews)Well...I had this version of Roller Coaster Tycoon for my old Windows and when I got my new puter with Windows XP a couple of years ago...much to my chagrin, my Roller Coaster Tycoon did not transfer.
I had gotten this for my son to play, and he is now grown and gone.We tried other versions of Roller Coaster Tycoon...but really none were as fun as the original one.
Once he left...I had empty nest syndrome pretty badly.I looked in the stores for the original version of RCT to see if they had made it compatible with Windows XP and could not find it.But I was told it might be available online...and I was delighted when I found it on Amazon.
I ordered it and have enjoyed it immensely.I love Evergreen Gardens and I play it through and accumulate alot of money on it, then flatten it and make a Serenity Garden where I can make banners with Scriptures and everything.I make just a few rides that I really enjoy watching the workings of and then open my Serenity Park for a low fare and watch the little kids come and play in my low key Amusement Park.
I set all the rides on maintain every 10 minutes and I have plenty of maintenance men, so even the coasters rarely crash.I am a very non violent person and I don't like that feature in the scenario, so I pretty much edit it out in the way I run my parks.
It is fun for this older gal to see the kiddies play and it is a drift of imagination that seems pretty harmless to me.I just try to limit my time, so I am only truly using it for recreation and relaxation.

Hamsterz Life Review

(More customer reviews)According to the Q&A area of Ubi-soft's website, there is no Ham-country per se.They say that the cage is Ham-country because it is a school (you teach the Hamsterz there), a bakery (you feed them from the food menu), etc.I think I would be happier had they just said that it wasn't included in the programming rather than trying to make it sound like the customers are all mistaken.Some people are going around claiming that you have to play the game for 72 hours to get Ham-country.However, I have it from the source that this is false and I don't recommend wasting 3 days of your life unless you truly enjoy the game.

Now, for a review of what is included in the game.I find it cute and my children all find it fun to play in small doses.A few of the mini games could be frustrating for younger children (and Mom), but my 7 year-old is able to tackle all of them.He is a very computer literate child though, so your mileage may vary.All in all, the controls are very intuitive, so there shouldn't be a problem.

You can not buy food and supplies.To get them you have to play mini games (only when the Hamster is in the mood) or find presents.When the Hamster asks if you want to play, you will see musical notes.Go to the main menu (i.e. so the Hamster is on the top screen) and press the button that appears with a musical note in it.If the kids have trouble playing the mini-games to get food and items, encourage them to use "Outing" then "Open Cage" to collect presents in the "bedroom."If your Hamster is hungry or thirsty and you have no food or drink items, I suggest adopting another Hamster.When you switch with "Hammy" the hunger and cleanliness of the Hamsterz will revery to "normal/ normal."That way you can get more supplies without having a tortured and complaining hamster (did I mention they complain?). You can have more than one Hamster, but only play with one at a time and they do not interact with each other.

Speaking of complaining... One of my favorite features of the game is that the Hamsterz will converse with you.My kids love it and it encourages my 5 and 4 year-olds to read.They have already picked up on some phrases like "Good Evening."With that in mind, the breeds all have different dialog accents (Australian, baby-talk, etc) so you may have to explain this to early readers.My kids get the biggest kick out of the voice recognition.This feature is very well done.We have had no problems at all with settings, background noise, or changing settings for more than one user (completely unnecessary for Hamsterz).

The holidays included with the game have strange (often culinary) names, so expect questioning as to why your child doesn't have A holiday from school on "Miso Day" or "Strawberry Day."

All in all, this is a fun "pet" game.My kids love it with or without Ham-country and I let them "take out" their hamsterz to play with and take care of for a half hour a night after dinner.That way, they are getting the most out of the program without getting easily bored.They received it on Christmas and still look forward to Hammy time every night.The only reason I have it less than 5 stars is because I do not care for the misinformation on their advertising regarding "Ham-country."

Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness Review

(More customer reviews)I actually had the opportunity to play this game months ago via a Japanese copy.Past Harvest Moon games revolved around the same premise: grow crops, raise animals, fish, mine, etc..This does too, but there are also noticeable differences.To start off with, most other games already have 90% or more of the people you interact with there.In Island of Happiness (IoH), you start off with about 4 other people.By certain dates and certain achievements more people arrive.

In the past, you used ores to strengthen your tools, now you have colorful spheres called 'wonderfuls' that modify your tools in some very nice ways (imagine adding orange wonderfuls to your milker and receiving and extra milk for each orange wonderful attached).You will get wonderfuls for winning competitions (which can't start until you build the East bridge.

You will also be extremely exhausted (and hungry) for the first season and until you can get enough people to move to the island to open up the diner and cafe (so don't over do working the crops).

In HM IoH, there are more things to spend your hard earned money on.And sheep, before took 1 week before you could shear them again, now take only 3 days.

On a down side, you cannot use the old cheat to change the weather.I've tried many times.

It is more challenging because of the limitations early on and very little chance of actually getting married in the first 2 years - but even your rivals don't seem too rushed to get married.

Things will improve after you get the West bridge build (the East bridge has to be build first - so you are looking around $80,000 total for the first two bridges), but the West bridge will give you access to the mine and help bring in enough people to open up the diner and cafe.

If you were easily bored by the second or third years of other Harvest Moons, this will give you more to do even well past the fourth or fifth years (I'm in Summer Year 4 of the Japanese version).

Thrillville Review

(More customer reviews)Many theme park games have came out in the past years, but none of them have been up to par (In my opinion...) with the "Roller Coaster Tycoon" series. Before I bought this game, I read about it. One of the things that caught my attention was that you could talk to the guests. "That sounds cool.", I thought. So, I ordered it and when it came to my house and I stuck it in my PS2, I was pretty impressed! Not only do you get to build rides, but you can do SO much more.

-Build CollerCoasters from scratch or build a "pre-made" one. (Simillar to "Roller Coaster Tycoon".) Although, your Roller Coasters do not have to be realistic at all. You don't need lift hills and you don't have to make sure the ride won't fly off the track if it goes to fast because, well it won't. It's completely non-violent.
-Build game stalls, which YOU can play yourself to earn extra money for your park. You can also play these games with the guests, OR you can play them in Multi-Player mode with your friends.
-Talk to the guests! You can ask about your park, what needs to be improved, what they like about it. You can also just chat with them about different things and build your relationship. (After you build your relationship with a person, you can also flirt with them. Which is sort of weird, but entertaining.) You can also play match-maker with the guests. The whole point of this is so that the "teenagers" are happier, come to your park more, spend more money, etc.

Overall, this a fun game, which isn't TOO challenging. There's stuff you keep you busy -like playing at the game stalls- while your waiting for some extra cash to roll in. But it shouldn't be too hard to make money, as playing games earns you some dough, and you'll be doing a lot of that. Kids over 10 will probably enjoy it, because it DOES deal with money, the amount of energy needed for a ride, that sort of thing. (And it DOES have flirting, as I mentioned before.) Kids under 10 might have a problem with all the money managment. But if they can play Roller Coaster Tycoon, then they can definatly play this.

Bottom line, this is a great game for anyone who enjoys games like the Sims, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and mini games.

(More customer reviews)I am 12 years old and I have had this game for about a month now. It is very fun and addictive. One thing I would like to point out, is that parents should not be worried by the rating saying T for teen and "mature sexual themes." These "mature sexual themes" do not exist. Unless they consider kissing as that, they don't have anything like that in it. You control your sims and help them make friends, get a job, etc.
When you first start out, you choose the last name for your sim, and the first name. Then you choose gender (male or female) then choose the head, clothing, and personality. Then you can right a biography about your sim, but you can just skip that. Then, you click done and you can then move them into a house or lot. You can choose an already built house, or buy an empty lot and build from scratch. After that, start living! you have to get your sims a job, and help them fulfill their needs: hunger, by feeding them, comfort, by letting them sit down in a chair or sofa or couch, hygiene, by telling them to take a bath or shower (don't worry, nudity is blurred out), bladder, by making them use the toilet (also blurred out), energy, by giving them coffee, expresso, or making them go to bed, social, by having them do something with another sim, fun, by having them do something fun such as playing on the computer, and finally room, this is not a major thing, but to improve the room rating, just keep it clean, and put up paintings and such. So, should you get this game? Absolutely! It's worth it, although it can get kind of repetitive after a while, unless you get expansion packs, but despite that, go ahead and get it! It's worth it.

Cooking Mama 3: Shop & Chop Review

(More customer reviews)I'm a big fan of the Cooking Mama franchise, and I think this is a good addition to anyone who liked the previous Mama games. The game is broken down into several elements, some familiar, some brand-new. The familiar elements are, of course, cooking with mama, in which you practice and make recipes. What I like about this portion of the game, which is new to Cooking Mama fans, is that once you obtain all the recipes, you unlock what I suspect are sixteen new recipes. I've only recently unlocked the hidden recipes, but the game description says that there are 80 recipes and with only 64 of them, I think that's how many are left. You also have cooking for your friends, which is a tried and true test of your cooking skills. What IS different about this segment of the game is the recipes each of your friends has. In Cooking Mama 2, each of your friends had a set of recipes, but in this game, you can access your entire recipe list from each friend. However, you seem to only be able to unlock new friends if you cook for ALL of your friends. (You can't just make food for just one of your friends. You can't seem to get new friends this way.) And then there's the Diary section and the always fun designing your kitchen and dressing up Mama.

What is NEW about this game is the ability to shop for Mama. The Shop portion offers you five "levels," during which you need to buy the items on Mama's list. Each level is progressively harder than the last, and by the end, you're just running for your life, trying to get everything Mama needs before time runs out. As you manipulate the mini Mama (those who have Cooking Mama for the Wii will know who I'm talking about) through the grocery store, watch out! You can bump into other customers and set off mini games! (The games are fun but they suck the time out of the clock.) The other section I like is the one during which you can mix and match recipes to create new dishes. I like the format they came up with for this game. The choices are limited, which means that there are a controlled number of dishes you can come up with. I don't know how it was for other gamers, but I think too many choices are not that great since you can make too many combos (I often lost track of what I combined with what).

Majesco has made some of the more familiar tasks, such as dicing, mixing, and frying, different, so that it's providing the gamer a bit more of a challenge the previous Mama games. The new additions of the Shop and the Mix have extended the game play nicely. It had always been a complaint of mine that I finished Cooking Mama too quickly, but I feel as if I'm getting a little more bang for my buck. And the chance to send the fruits and vegetables I've grown in Gardening Mama to my Cooking Mama 3 kitchen is a great way to incorporate both games.

My only complaint about this game is that the items you get from achieving bonuses (you know the ones--for when you finish a task before a certain time limit) is not very clear. It just tells you that you got a new item, but you're not sure if it's an item you use in the Diary or if it's something Mama can wear. Other than that, I'm glad to see that Majesco has challenged once again with good, wholesome game-playing. Yay Mama!

(More customer reviews)I loved playing the board version of Life as a child and enjoy it on my PC too!What I like most about this game is the versatility when it comes to options.You can either see the goofy animation (while getting married,driving around, etc...) or you can choose to turn it off.I also like thefact that you can choose which version you want to play.
Having nochildren of my own, I opted to take it to work with me and put it on the PCat work (I teach school...I hope I didn't break any laws!:-) ) Everyday, my students dispersed to various classrooms to do theirritualistic, mundane computer time.Because of the numbers, a few werealways left behind without a computer.(I had one main multi-media PCwhich had Life on it.)I can tell you, without hesitation, that childrentried to "hide" to avoid going to computer time in order toremain in my classroom to play Life.Sometimes I found myself playingalongside my second graders!
Out of all the animated games I have seenthus far, Life is the best!
