(More customer reviews)RPG Maker 2 for the PS2 brings 3D adventure creation to the consoles. A great improvement over RPG Maker, the depth of games you can create with this is staggering.
First, if you haven't tried RPG Maker, the original, that is a simple 2-D adventure maker that could make games such as Final Fantasy 1 and 2. You had little 'wizards' and 'warriors' and such moving up, down, left and right through towns, dungeons, castles and forests. You could have simple dialogue, music and events. This might be a good starting system for someone very new to game creation, to help them learn in a very simple manner.
RPG Maker 2 launches into full 3 dimensional adventures, so you have to be able to think more seriously about the layout of your games. Instead of just having a "flat world" that you move through, you literally take blocks and create a 3D world, with stairs up to higher levels, hidden rooms, and much more. You can change the texture of every block, making giant cathedrals, small village huts, wooden bridges, and just about anything you can imagine.
You can connect a USB keyboard to type in long descriptions, and your choices of graphics, sounds and events are much more intense. As you might imagine, you can therefore take MONTHS and months to create huge adventure worlds. The tools are all there, but it takes a little while to get used to how they work, as with any new design system.
When your game is done, save it onto a memory card and trade it off to friends. This could be the perfect way to learn about game design and create something that others are willing to pay to play!
Highly recommended for aspiring game designers who are good with logic and complex design. I'd still recommend the original RPG Maker for younger kids who need to learn the 2D basics first.

Halo Reach Wireless Xbox 360 Headset Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this headset to match my Xbox 360 250GB Halo Reach Console Bundle. The headset looks great, comes with a USB power charger, additional earpiece, and instruction manual. It looks and feels rugged too which I like. It is definitely not flimsy by any means.

Voice clarity is great, good range on it...I go outside of my house to smoke a cigarette in between games and I can still talk to my friends on it and hear them just fine. Charges quick and last about 8 hours of gaming before another quick charge is needed.

Overall I am very satisfied with this mic, the HALO look of it is just a bonus. 5-stars from me.

The only mistake is that you can only playone course Royal Troon(Home of the 1997 Open). Trying to hit the 17th greennot only gets old but somewhat impossible in touramentconditions.

(More customer reviews)Frankly I was a little worried about this title.The original was one of my favorite PC games in the early 90's.Subsequent console ports were pretty unplayable.And honestly the trailer video doesn't look that good.Plus the new play options are much more complicated than the elegantly simple original.

But the verdict is: it works.It works well.It plays at least as well as the original.The touch screen on the DS is a huge plus.The screen is a little small and the controls take a little getting used to, but only a little.By the first or second game after the tutorial I pretty well had it down, controlling just with the stylus and left shoulder button.Easy, fun and very reminiscent of the experience from the days of yore.

Like the original Populous the game can be at times slow and others frustrating, but it plays well, and it is a good puzzle/strategy game.This update has more strategy than the original, and I feel it works well.I don't think anyone will call this version one for the ages.But if you already like this kind of game, or were thinking about buying it based on fond memories of the original on the PC, it's definitely worth the price of admission.

In this game Pajama Sam has to help thepeace delegates of the food pyramid get to the peace summit.The healthyfoods and sweet foods can't seem to get along together.Some of thedelegates are stuck in various predicaments and Sam has to rescue them. Sam's off-the-wall humor is as snappy as ever.
I have to admit, I alsoenjoyed this game and often wonder why adult games aren't this fun.Ihighly recommend it.

Tom and Jerry: War of the Whiskers Review

This is a good alternative to VirtuaFighter, Tekken, and Dead or Alive, for the younger set as well as adults looking for something different. Playing very similar to the Dreamcast hit-series PowerStone, its simplified controls and interactive environments keep everyone entertained. It makes a great game for non-gamers, and those looking for something a little lighter.

The PS2 graphics are amazing, and reminds me of the 5 star "Looney Tunes: Sheep Raider" for the PS1 in terms of its quality and visual sense of humor. Floods, avalanches, and other wacky events constantly interrupt the fight, forcing gamers to stay on their toes. And, there are plenty of unlockable characters to bring you back for more.

As a dad who plays his fair share of "M" rated games after his kids go to bed, it is nice to see some quality efforts made for the younger crowd. I am a little surprised it is rated "Teen" - they should have appealed the rating to get an "E".

The only criticisms I have are with the high difficulty level, and the fact that it should have been designed for 4 players. Otherwise it is a great buy, especially if you find it in the discount bin.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Review

This game is a true sequel to Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.

-An example of the game. Imagine: your forces (about 18) and your computer ally (about 20) vs. enemy (about 60). you have to defend the castle entrance (you have long range attackers) and the only way for the enemy to go there is through the stairs. You block off both sets of stairs with your strong melee guy with an archer/mage behind for long range support. The enemy is approaching, then both of you are at a stand still, but they attack the one blocking. Your HP is slowly draining from the close and long range attacks by melee, arrows, and/or magic. You need to heal him/her now (or you'll lose that character in the game). If you use a Vulernary (HP potion), you could get attacked by an enemy with 1 hp (which you could have defeated if you attacked instead of healed). If you have a priest heal you, an archer could shoot over your character and hit your priest (who has very low max hp and defense stats). If you attack, you may defeat one more, but what will take it's place? What would happen if I did this, or that, or... What would you do?

PROS:
-Customize the strength, material, weight, and other stats of weapons
-Objectives are interesting and challenging: DEFEND THE CASTLE, ROUT THE ENEMY, DEFEAT THE BOSS, SURVIVE FOR X TURNS, DEFEND "PERSON", AND MORE.
-Story, although not always presented well, is very engaging
-Even just reading the scrolling story is very interesting
-This game is really fun, it's gonna eat up your free time.
-Challenging strategy game. Really makes you think
-If you wanna keep all your characters, you will appreciate the challenge
-About 45 hours of gameplay, not counting the unlockables and how many times you will reset the game because you realize you made a wrong move. (this is a good thing by all means). So this means about 100 hours in real life. Great length and depth.
-Difficulty is appropriate, definitely not too easy and there are MUCH harder levels
-Gameplay is just as it was in FE:POR, it's simple, yet complex and very effective
-The cutscene movies are very well done
-Music is orchestrated, sounds great.
-Gamecube controller compatible

CONS:
-Like I said, about 75% of the cutscenes are scroll and read types
-Not enough movie cutscenes, which make the game seem more sub-par
-I'm NO graphics-nut, I'm a GAMEPLAY-nut, but the developers could have stepped up the graphics to have more detail There's more graphics potential in the Wii than the Gamecube, and they didn't improve other than progressive scan and 16:9 support. I think the developers were just lazy in the graphics area.
-I have to reset the game to go to the main menu from the battlefield, come on, this is just poor development. Disappointing.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
PERSONALLY, I REALLY REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS GAME.
Those reviewers and critics giving this game a bad rating most likely aren't strategy-fans. Not everyone likes strategy games, but those who do should give this game high marks.
-If you like strategy games, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME.
-If you are new to the strategy genre, get the prequel to this game FIRE EMBLEM: PATH OF RADIANCE (ALSO WELL DONE) first.
-If you do not like RPG strategy games, I don't recommend this game because this is a true RPG strategy game.
-If you are a graphics-nut, this game will disappoint you.
-If you are a gameplay-nut, you will really enjoy this game. I did.
-If you liked FIRE EMBLEM: PATH OF RADIANCE, don't hesitate because of the other negative "CRITIC" reviews, it is really, really worth it.

-TO RESPOND TO THE CRASHING INCIDENT IN THE THREE STAR REVIEW: I THINK IT WAS PROBABLY A PROBLEM WITH THAT PARTICULAR PERSON'S WII OR MEMORY CARD BECAUSE MY CLEAR DATA FROM FE:POR TRANSFERED FINE WITH NO CRASHES.

Spider-Man Review

(More customer reviews)Nothing bothers me more than people who write a review on something they've never played or seen just because they like the franchise or they "think" it will be cool.At least wait untill you experience it before you go hyping it up to levels it can't possibly reach and leaves others dissappointed because "all these people were raving that it was going to be the best thing since sliced bread."Sorry.had to get that out.Now, on with the review:
You play the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, the hyphen is there because this game is based on the upcomming May 3 theatrical release of Spider-Man.Being as how the movie is in the future and I don't want to pretend that I can see that far, I don't know how close the game sticks to the movie plot.However, from what I can tell the voice actors are the same as the movie.ie William DeFoe portrays Harry Osborne aka the Green Goblin, Kirsten Dunst portrays Mary Jane, Peter/Spidey's love interest, (although it's hard to tell if it's actually her because her voice is not all that distinctive, no offence Kirsten.)And what sounds like Tobey MacGuire playing the webhead himself.
One of the cool aspects of this game is that if you played the previous Playstation 1 version of the game, you can opt to use the same control style.Or you can used the advanced control style which I'd recommend.(but why should you listen to me? It's your world- Bob Ross)The controls take some time to get used to mainly due to the frustrating camera.You have control of the camera using the right analog stick but sometimes it's frustrating if you need to turn around and all you see is Spidey's face, not what's actually behind you until you tap the stick down to recenter the camera behind you.
I'm going to take this time to delve into something that I thought was the games best selling point and made it the most fun.Aerial combat.While it was possible to swing around and attack in the air in the first game, this game takes it to an all new level.There are a few levels based solely on attacking spider hunters that fly through the air high above the city and you must flip and twist and swing through the air to defeat them.In one level, you are battling with the green goblin through the air as he zips along hurling pumpkin bombs at you.At one point, and I don't know how I did it but it was the coolest thing I've ever seen, I landed on Goblins air rider thing and started hamering him with my fists in the head until he got upset and took a sharp turn while flinging me off.Now, during these aerial battles, you can land on any one of the numerous buildings if you need a break and there are helth icons all over the place.But these environments definitely upped the replay value of this game for me.
There are tons of secrets throughout this game and I refuse to use any cheats until I've at least beaten the game once.However, I did come accross something and I don't know if it's true or not that once you beat the game on hero, you can play through as the goblin.Don't quote me but it might be pretty cool.
The nitty gritty-
Graphics:4.5The graphics were a little overplayed by those people who hype things up and say that there will be nothing better but they are nonetheless pretty cool.You can see the cars moving around down on the streets from 70 stories up.Spideys new outfit based on the movie has metalic web outlines which shine in certain lighting.The FMV (full motion video ie Final Fantasy) looks very good and the characters look like the actors who portray them in the movie.Nice touch.
Sound: 4.5 The sound is good don't get me wrong but there are a couple of times when (Tobey?) sounds bored.He could have used a little more inflection in his voice but that's nothing to get too upset over.The guy who narrates the training is a hoot.At one point he says he's going to get a ham sandwhich and the next time you hear him he's definitly chewing on something.
Controls: 5It's hard to argue with a game that allows you to customize your control issues.If you prefer the old style, use em.But the advanced allows for many of the new improved actions to be performed easily once you get the hang of it.
Gameplay: 5++Definitly the selling point of the game. (after the movie, the franchise, all those people hyping it up, and the fact that it is a cool game)You really feel as though you are granted great powers and responsibility yada yada.Seriously, you feel as though you are actually Spider-Man.If you enjoyed the first game, you will not be let down in the least.
BTW, for those of you who thought the first game was a little too cartoony or childish, this game isn't.It starts off telling about ****SMALL SPOILER****Uncle Bens death and you must track down his killer to avenge him.That cheesy repairte that made it into the first game didn't make the cut here. Just some witty banter between heros and thugs.If you've ever wanted to experience being Spider-Man, go get the game.Or you could work with radiation and spiders and hope that one will bite you with the correct resutlts but I don't recommend that.

The load times are very long.
The mission briefing and follow up briefing after a mission are very hard to read.The print is so small.For us older gamers it makes it harder to read.I like to enjoy all aspects of a game and that includes how well I done and the mission briefing. Next time increase the letters just a bit.

Star Wars Battlefront (Mac) Review

(More customer reviews)Star Wars Battlefront - especially due to the notorious lack of a broad variety of games for the Mac - is a great game. Of course, you need a 128 MB Ram Video Card to enjoy all the little bits and pieces, but in general it is the kind of easy play you would like to have after work...

...but dare you to play the game on holidays - like I did. I got it in the morning - and got instantly addicted to it. I played it on "medium" difficulty. Not eight hours later, I was done with both Solo-Campaigns and the good side "galactic conquer". On this speed I will have completed the game within another 2-3 hours.
Then I will be forced of either playing it again (difficulty: hard) or do instant action games...

So, Star Wars Battlefront is a must for the Mac (if you have the "recommended hardware" to fully enjoy it). BUT it is neither a real challenge for the experienced gamer nor a long-lasting investment. Five for being a Star Wars with great graphics and the great shooter - but four in total.

And by the way, in case you have purchased the game and found yourself with an invalid registration code on the back: don't panic. On the Aspyr Homepage (Battlefront, Support) you will find an auto-completion tool.

In this game you'll play paintball in a fun storyline with lots of tournaments to compete in worldwide. The good stuff about this game, its a realistic paintball experience with no bruises attached. You can get markers(paintball guns) from real companies, and a few big brands like Spyder and Tippman. You see the game from a first person, which in this case means you're looking through goggles. The bad is, well thats hard to think of. The graphics arent going to win any awards, but who cares? When its shoot or be shot, you're not looking for detail in the bunkers. However, a quick google found a solution to the problem if you buy this game from Amazon and receive the misprinted installation key which will prevent you from even installing it:

Enter the first two sets of numbers from the key on the manual, then '0000' in the third input field, then the next two sets of numbers from your key.

Worked like a charm.

(More customer reviews)For those who have freqented the worlds of Sid Meier before, this purchase should come as second nature: you will not be disappointed.Alpha improves all of the original concepts of Civilization 2 and adds some of its own-such as borders, social engineering and unit design.Territorial bordersis a simple improvement that is just plain wonderful.Social engineeringtakes some getting used to- I was a sceptic -but after a few tries it is anecessity and adds a new standard to the genere.The technologies alsowill confuse those of us who are not physics and advancedmicrobiology/genetics majors; however, the general idea will not take longto grasp.Trade is improved and varies in ways that the far surpasses Civ2.Unit variety is, well. . . amazing.The Graphics in game play are welldone and the cinematics that appear throughout are top notch.One slightdowner is the diplomatic relations: a few more choices, but not much changeoverall.When advancing the difficulty setting Alpha still falls into theold trap of just making the computer's units stronger, which can befrustrating.On the other hand, perhaps it is just reducing the advantagethe player's units hold in easier settings.
A word of warning: this gamecan be detrimental to one's GPA if not used with caution.Addiction willfollow quickly if moderation is not enforced.I recommend having a friendor roommate hide the CD on occasion.
Few games will provide as many hoursof enjoyment as this one will.More fun for your dollar!

(More customer reviews)Wow what a beautiful game.I am very impressed by the graphics on this one.But what about the gameplay.It is very unique.Most of the game you are a human running around in first person shooter mode.This is pretty cool.Sometimes you will have to look around in the environment to find things to use.An example would be finding a spearlike object to hurl at a t-rex.THis sounds like it would be tough, but it really isn't.While you cock the spear with one hand, your other hand points to where you will throw the spear.THis brings up a very unique aspect of the game.There is no health meter, no reticle for shooting, no ammo readout.NO nothing.You are IN the game just as a real person would be.This helps with the immersion in the game.But what about the Kong Levels?They are way fun and way short.they are probably only about %25 of the game.They are fun though.A little clumsy on the controls, but fun.All in all this is a good game.Not great, but pretty good.You might wait a month and get it half priced used on ebay.Whatever the case, you will be pretty happy with your purchase.

Kirby and The Amazing Mirror Review

(More customer reviews)I just got this game, and it is so awesome. I'm 17 years old, and I've been an on and off admirer of him. Now that multiplayer compatibility is available for most of the games coming out for GBA, Kirby knew that the only way to stay alive was to make a 4-player adventure. Bingo.

I've only played the game a couple times, and the multiplayer is probably the only reason I'd like it even more. You've got 3 other Kirby's bouncing around the levels. Even if you don't call them up, they're bound to be in another level in the game, and you can find them yourself and join them!

If you love Kirby, you'll love this (no brainer). If you're interested in Kirby, this would be a great game to start off with. If you hate him, you should at least rent it. Hey, it couldn't hurt.

If you beat the first Kirby game in one day, then you MIGHT not have as much fun with this one. I've beaten a few levels, and I'm 7% complete. I have no idea how many more levels there are or anything, but all I'm saying is don't waste your money on something knowing you'll beat it in a day, or a weekend, unless you are just radical about beating games over and over again.

Overall, this is a great game to add to your GBA collection.

Everything about this game is off-the-wall, but it works.When you load the game for the first time, you will be greeted with giraffes, rainbows, bicycles, and a plethora of other things- all performing some contorted dance- just for you.Welcome to the world of Katamari Damacy, where the gameplay is original and surprisingly addictive.Your goal?- roll your sticky ball around to collect the "objects from earth".As your ball gets bigger, you can pick up bigger things.So you go on a hunt to keep growing your ball.The levels you play in are simply huge- I never felt like I had seen everything in a level- so replay level is quite high.Meanwhile, the background music is a lot of fun, good enough to put you in a good mood if the rest of the game doesn't.And the story- without ruining anything- has to be the product of mixing drugs and alcohol.The controls are quite simple, employing only the analog sticks and a couple shoulder buttons (although I never found much use for the shoulder buttons).When I heard about and found the game, I worried that it would be too simplistic to entertain me- it seems my worries were unfounded; Katamari Damacy is a great game for everyone....and cheap, too!
