007 The World is Not Enough Review

While this game hasn't been released yet, so no one out there can really review it yet, as an employee of EA (but not on any of the Bond teams), I would like to give my thoughts and opinions on how this game has turned out.
First, this game is truely amazing.Being a big fan of Rare's Goldeney and Perfect Dark, I was wondering if it would be possible to top those gaming experiences. In the end, I would say yes.To me, The Worlds Not Enough is the first Bond not made by Rare to top Goldeneye and Perfect Dark on all levels. The graphics are incredibly detailed, smooth, and for the most part run at an incredibly smooth frame rate.Even in levels with filled with city detail, cars, people, explosions, etc., the game maintains a very good frame rate. The character animations and models are also a big step over what was seen in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.In graphics, The Worlds Not Enough truely shows what the Nintendo 64 is capable of.When using the expansion pack, which I recommend, the graphics are even more amazing. While many games that employee the use of the expansion pack, most of the time its only for high-res graphics, usually resulting in frame rate problems. This is not the case for The Worlds Not Enough. While yes the expansion pack is used for optional high-res graphics, it is also used to improve the visual effects in the game.Best of all, unlike a lot of games that use it, it doesn't become a trade off....better graphics, not so great frame rate.Even with the use of the pack, the frame rate remains pretty constant.
Sound is another high point for the game.Of course it tops Goldeneye since that game was released by in 1997, but it also tops the sound found in Perfect Dark. The games' score is strong, very bond-ish, and helps to really draw you into the game. Same thing goes for the sound effects.Voice audio is also a huge plus. The game features a large amount of voice acting that sounds like its straight out of the movie. While yes Perfect Dark featured a great deal of voice recordings, the audio quality of the voice recordings in The Worlds Not Enough is of a higher quality, resulting in clearer/stonger audio.
The gameplay is also top notch. If you have played Goldeneye or Perfect Dark, then you will have no probably picking up that controller and getting right into the game.Eurocom, the developer for the N64 version, has done an terrific job capturing the feel and enjoyment found in the two Rare titles.
Overall, this is truely an amazing and very enjoyable game.I highly recommend the purchase of this game by anyone who is a Bond fan, a first person shooter fan, or just a fan of great games. While some may believe I am only saying this because I am employeed by EA, that's not it at all.Like many Nintendo fans, I only except the highest quality games, and will only recommend a game if it meets my expectations. This game not only met all of my expectations, but surpased them and makes me excited for the next Bond game.I highly recommend the purchase.

James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire Review

James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In 1997, Rare breathed new life into the genre of first-person shooter games by releasing Goldeneye. To this day, some gamers feel that Goldeneye was the best game on the Nintendo 64.
Soon after, EA bought the rights to the James Bond franchise and released the lackluster Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and 007 Racing for the Playstation. After three flops, gamers wondered why Rare lost the Bond license in the first place.
Fortunately, EA pulled its act together for James Bond's first outing on the Playstation 2.Entitled "007: Agent Under Fire," this is an original game that finally gives Goldeneye a run for its money.EA created an original story for the new game, and they've succeeded on that front.Agent Under Fire has everything that a 007 game should have: Bond girls, Q gadgets, heavily armed cars, and over-the-top villains.
Seasoned gamers will first notice that the controls for 007: AUF are the same as those in Medal of Honor.Seeing as how Medal of Honor was one of the best first-person shooters on the original Playstation, that can't be bad.But 007: AUF can't be classified as a simple FPS.Several of the missions have the player driving Bond's Aston Martin, firing at enemy vehicles. In other missions, the computer controls the driving while the player fires the weapons at oncoming enemies. These missions are very exciting, and they're a fresh playing experience that adds interest to what would have been a straight FPS.
EA has done an excellent job recreating the feel of the James Bond films. The graphics are very realistic. You will look twice at the digital Bond to make sure that it's not the real Pierce Brosnan.Players are rewarded for discovering secrets and using the Q gadgets creatively. And 007: AUF captures Bond's personality perfectly in the cut scenes that tell the game's story. The player is just a dry martini away from becoming Bond.
One of the things that made Goldeneye great was the multiplayer mode.007: AUF repeats this tradition. The multiplayer levels are alright, and there's plenty of variety in the multiplayer missions. Some force the players to diffuse bombs, others are variations on the game of Capture the Flag. But Goldeneye still has the better multiplayer mode, thanks to its use of classic Bond villains. The characters EA created for 007: AUF just aren't as exciting as Jaws and Oddjob.
007: Agent Under Fire is a good first outing for Bond on the Playstation 2.The game offers a lot of variety and plenty of plot, which are rare in most first-person shooters.People who have played their share of first-person shooters will find enough depth in the game to come back for more, while casual gamers will be blown away by the entire experience. This game lacks the innovation of Goldeneye, but it's still not to be missed.

James Bond 007: Nightfire Review

James Bond 007: Nightfire
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
007 Nightfire is out for all major platforms, in time for the latest Bond film. The graphics are stunning, gameplay is amazing. Well worthy of the series!
I'm a huge fan of the Bond games, and we have all of the previous ones. We got this one as soon as it came out, and were definitely not disappointed!
The graphics are a huge step up from previous versions. In the first 'training' mission, you're driving a car through city streets. The lights reflect off of the curves of the car, you can see inside to all of his controls and movements, the dents show up realistically, the back up lights glow softly, and if you bash it a bit, the trunk comes loose. The city around you has cobblestone streets, water rippling, streetlights that come down when you hit them. The attention to detail is just amazing!
As you then move on through the various levels, you see this same level of detail everywhere. From the Austrian castle and other alpine scenes, to the city scenes, watery scenes and more, each really shines.
The plot is very engaging and typically Bond. But in an attempt to show that this isn't about violence - he's a SPY after all, not a Rambo - you get bonus points for being stealthy instead of blasting in with guns, and for stunning or capturing enemies instead of killing them.
In fact, just about every area can be 'accomplished' in many ways. Bluster your way into an objective by a full frontal assault ... or sneak in the side way for extra points. Since you're also rewarded for your time and health, often the sneaky, non-violent way is the best.
You've got a huge array of equipment, weapons, armor and vehicles, and all work just the way you'd expect them to. I found the default controller configuration REALLY annoying, but a quicks stop in the config area got it back to the way I'm used to playing.
Plus, there's multiplayer! Play with up to four people at once on REALLY great maps with quite a bit of customization options on each one. Grab some bots for practice, and play arena, team arena, king of the hill, capture the flag, or other game types.
Definitely worthy of the Bond series, and highly, highly recommended to any first person shooter fan!

Nightfire is an amazing game. While its graphics are not actually that spectacular, when compared to Metroid Prime or Mario Sunshine, they are quite solid. More importantly, the graphic style reminds me of Goldeneye--relying on great poly counts rather than 'textures,' like World is not Enough and Agent Under Fire did.
In addition to graphics, gameplay and control are wonderful. The sensitivity of the controls is just right, even if it isn't customizable like Halo. Also, the actual setup has a plethora of different modes, so you can play whatever way makes you comfortable.
And the levels. Brilliantly designed, for the most part. Though they're not all perfect (I did not particularly live level 1), most are great. The one where you're fighting the Yakuza in Mayhew's estate?--fantastic! And when you start out on a rooftop, surrunded by smipers, and with only a smiper rifle, a pistol and a prayer? Sensational! With multiple ways to complete any level (do I choose the door, or the zipline?), and meaty guns (no more being stuck with a pathetically innacurate sub-machine gun!), I at least was more than satisfied. I'm particularly happy that you now no longer run out of lives, so if you're stuck at the end of a level, you can keep trying until you win!
But as with Goldeneye, the one player mode-however sensational!-is just icing on the cake. Multiplayer is Nightfire's heart and soul, and it doesn't disappoint. While numerous old-school characters, lot's of unlockable modes, and customizable bots are great, the two most important aspects are also there in abundance: guns and good levels. For example, it's a lot of fun to be guiding a missile towards a seemingly unsuspecting friend, when he shoots it down with an assault rifle! Now that's cool!
All in all, Nightfire is a very cool one player and multiplayer game. It's also very, very good, but the active word here is cool. You can even upgrade your camera, to find hidden snipers with a bio-target designator! The point is, this is a masterpiece worthy of your money.

James Bond 007: From Russia With Love Review

James Bond 007: From Russia With Love
Average Reviews:

EA finally landed the right mixture of Hollywood polish and fun gameplay two years ago when it released Everything or Nothing, a 007 game that not only featured the likeness of Pierce Brosnan and the entire movie cast, but also their vocal talents as well. Now, after the horrible bore-fest that was Rogue Agent, EA has released From Russia With Love. This game is an expanded version of the classic Bond film, and one-ups the coolness of playing as Pierce Brosnan by allowing players to become Sean Connery.

Personally, playing as Connery is the coolest thing in the world for me as a Bond fan. Years ago Rareware's GoldenEye for the N64 teased players with an "all Bonds" cheat that would enable Connery, but this turned out to be fake. Now we get the real deal, complete with Sir Sean's vocals. He sounds a lot older naturally, and the accent is deeper and thicker, but would you rather have 007 himself, or some nameless actor doing an impersonation?

The core gameplay has not changed from Everything or Nothing, just boosted a bit. You still get a mixture of 3rd-person action and stealth levels, and also vehicle missions. A notable new toy is the jetpack from Thunderball, and it adds a new level of mayhem. Some of the minor frustrations still exist with regards to targeting and aiming, but if you made it through the last game you should be fine here. There's also some nice upgrades and unlockable content to go through, as is now standard with all EA movie-licensed games. (Note that the original name of SPECTRE is still off limits to the Bond franchise itself, hence the new name Octopus).

Overall I'm impressed with EA's effort here. The game does justice to the laid-back nature of the old 007 flicks while injecting doses of 90's-era explosions and effects along the way. It's not meant to be a huge, innovative game, and it shouldn't be compared to the next-gen stuff creeping around the corner. A must-buy to all Bond fans, and a very strong recommendation to anyone remotely curious about playing as Sir Sean himself.

Golden Eye 007 Review

Without a doubt, Goldeneye 007 is the best corridor shooter I've ever played and one of the best games I've ever played period. The graphics, sound, control, fun factor, and replay value are all awesome to say theleast.Even when you get right up against a wall, there's no sign ofpixelization. The weapon selection and options to use are the best everseen in a corridor shooter. The one player game is challenging, but notimpossible. But where Goldeneye 007 really shines is the multiplayer mode. It can't be beat by any other game. You can play up to 4 players at atime and hunt each other down and see who has the better aim. There aretons of weapons to choose from under Options to use in multiplayer.Youcan choose lasers, timed mines, golden guns which will kill the others injust one shot, and my personal favorite, proximity mines that you throwanywhere on the level and when anybody (including yourself) gets close tothem, they will blow them to pieces. However, that's not even half of theweapons there are to choose from. There are also most of the maincharacters from the movie that you can select during the game. This gamedoesn't have ANY weaknesses. This is one of the best games that anybodycould buy whether you liked the movie or not.

James Bond 007: GoldenEye Review

James Bond 007: GoldenEye
Average Reviews:

When it comes to videogames, there is nothing I enjoy more than a good remake of a classic game. I'd rather have a remake of a superb, 13 year old game (like N64's "Goldeneye"), than a new and original but lousy one. This has been done a few times before with great results: PS1's "Resident Evil" was remade (from scratch) for the Gamecube in 2002, PS1's "Metal Gear Solid" was remade (from scratch) for the Gamecube in 2004 (under the name "Twin Snakes"), and PS1's "Silent Hill" was remade (from scratch) for the Wii in 2009 (under the name "Shattered Memories"). This remake of "Goldeneye" is just as good as those. However, this is more than just a remake of N64's "Goldeneye" from 1997. This is like "Goldeneye" + "all the other cool stuff from the James Bond-franchise" thrown together in the mix and shaken (not stirred). Classic guns (including the golden one) and characters from past Bond-movies are playable in the multiplayer mode. These characters include:

-Jaws (That big scary 7'2" tall guy with metal teeth played by Richard Kiel in "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977) and "Moonraker" (1979))

-Francisco Scaramanga (Played by Christopher Lee in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974))

-Oddjob (The Hawaiian guy with the lethal hat played by Harold Sakata in Goldfinger (1964))

-Ernst Stavro Blofeld (This is the Blofeld played by Charles Gray in Diamonds Are Forever (1971). Not the Blofeld played by Donald Pleasence or Telly Savalas)

-Baron Samedi (That scary voodoo-guy with the peculiar laughter and face-paint played by Geoffrey Holder in Live and Let Die (1973))

-Rosa Klebb (The dangerous little lady with the red hair and lethal shoe played by Lotte Lenya in From Russia with Love (1963))

-Red Grant (That blond henchman played by Robert Shaw in From Russia with Love (1963))

-Julius No (Played by Joseph Wiseman in Dr. No (1962))

The multiplayer is split-screen just like old times (up to 4 players), but an 8-player online multiplayer is also available. The single player story mode pretty much follows the same story as N64's "Goldeneye" from 1997. The only big difference is that you will be seeing the face and hearing the voice of Daniel Craig, rather than that of Pierce Brosnan. Personally I would have preferred Brosnan. Also, the rest of the cast (except Judi Dench) has been replaced by new "actors". Trevelyan, Ourumov, Onatopp etc. have different faces and voices than you see in the movie. Also here I would have preferred the old cast: Famke Janssen, Sean Bean, Robbie Coltrane etc.. But this isn't enough to ruin the game. Like I insinuated earlier, this is a remake made completely from scratch. This is not the Nintendo 64-game just printed onto Wii-discs. So you will have the pleasure of seeing the best graphics around. You can play this game with almost every controller ever released by Nintendo since the release of Gamecube: The Wii Remote with Nunchuk, Wii Zapper, Classic Controller, Classic Controller Pro, and the Nintendo GameCube controller can all be used with this game. I'm a bit old fashioned, so I prefer using the Gamecube-controller. Some parts of the story in this game are actually closer to what happened in the movie than the N64-game ever was. Like in that park in St. Petersburg when the identity of Janus is revealed, this time you will actually be sitting in the helicopter when those two rockets are fired. And you'll have to find a way to escape, just like in the movie. Some changes are made regarding locations I might add. The things that in the movie happened in Monaco, are here happening in Dubai, and what usually happened on Cuba is now happening in Nigeria etc.. I think this game is perfect as it is. Would have been fun with even more than 8 classic characters in multiplayer though. I am missing the likes of Auric Goldfinger, and I wouldn't mind having seen some of the newer characters like Jinx from Die Another Day (2002) and Solange from Casino Royale (2006) if you know what I mean :-). Another thing that would improve this game: The original N64-game hidden somewhere like an easter-egg (just like "Maniac Mansion" was hidden in "Day of the Tentacle", and the original "Donkey Kong" was hidden in "Donkey Kong 64"). For example, in a video game arcade cabinet standing somewhere in that nightclub in Barcelona. I would even say this is the game of this decade (the 00s) I have been looking forward to the most, and for good reason. Oh, and unless you have been living under a rock the last 13 years, you know this is a first-person-shooter. The Collector's Edition of this game includes a limited edition Golden Classic Controller Pro, so what are you waiting for???

P.S. Is it just me or did they stop making games like "Goldeneye"(N64) and "Ocarina of Time"(N64)? Miss those times....

James Bond 007: Blood Stone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With MGM fighting bankruptcy, the next Bond film will be a long wait ahead. Gladly, they pushed out Blood Stone to make some sort of revenue. I had low expectations for this game, honestly. But this game took some liberties, and without a movie to restrict the game's story, production designers had a lot of freedom.

The gameplay is 3rd person. I couldn't help thinking of the awful Tomorrow Never Dies gaming from the PSOne era when reading this on the game info. The contols are very solid for a shooter. Activision went with a shoot/cover scheme simular to Rainbox Six series. The firefights emphisise keeping cover and taking time for that critical shot, spray and pray gunstyle gets you killed terribly quick. There's also an added melee feature that has Bond perform CQC on enemies within an arms reach. I've found this feature to be the most entertaining. You're constantly pushing forward toward your objective, with an enemy attempting to block your path you can smoothly take him down and not miss a beat on your sprint. A very Bond move not really attempted in previous games. On a side note, the game is visually amazing. The ambiance in the background is polished off well. And for the not so great. The game wants so hard to incorporate the Bond vehicle chase sequences, which could have been more refined before the game's release. Driving controls are very sluggish. I've attempted to get the driving physics down, but still can quite make the smooth drifting turns the game simply instructs. These driving controls are my only real complaint about the game. Thankfully, they took the time to really smooth out the rest of the gameplay. I also understand this is not a driving game and not the primary selling point, but if it's going to be put in the final product, it should be done well. Again, this wouldn't even be an issue if there was only a couple driving sequences throughout the whole game. I've only played the first few levels and half were a driving/vehicle chase. This seems to be the running trend for the game.

If you can manage with driving sequences that seem like a chore than gameplay, this game is an overall hit. Even with my minor complaint, I find the game addicting and entertaining. Highly recommended for any Bond fan, or anyone wanting to step away from first person shooters.
