Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Review

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

First thing I want to touch on is Collectors Edition vs. Regular Edition. Last time I tried to put actual price tag numbers in an Amazon review it was censored, so I'll just say take a look, you know Collectors Edition costs quite a bit more than the regular. Is it worth it?

Only if you're a hard-core collector. You get a very beautiful lithograph. Stunning artwork. I may even have to frame it. The comic is nice. Not great, just, nice. It's not so much of a self contained story as much as it's a kind of mural that serves to get you into the story. It's really short, probably not worth a second read. Same with the DVD. It has some really interesting vids about the making of the game and some interviews. It's surprisingly lengthy, but winds up amounting to extras you get on any DVD that you watch once and never again. So that's a rundown of the Collectors Edition extra's. Decide for yourself if you think that's worth it. I like the litho. Everything else I watched/read once and that's it. And the litho, beautiful as it is, probably wasn't worth the extra $$$. Now for the actual game.

Violence:
This seems to be the big sticking point for most MK fans. Most of the people who have something bad to say about this game, it boils down to "they toned down the blood and gore. It's the end of the world!" Well, there is still blood in here and there are still fatalities. Are they toned down from previous MK games? Most definitely! Probably only the first MK game on the SNES would be less bloody. Midway had to tone it down to a Teen rating in order for DC to get on board with the game. But like I said, there is still blood and Fatalities. They really do push the Teen rating to its limit. So parents may still want to be aware. But gamers, unless you're a total gore-hog who has to have the bloodiest, goriest games, this is still plenty brutal.

Controls:
First let me list my credentials on this. I played Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon on the Nintendo systems, all with the Gamecube controller. This is the first Mortal Kombat I've played on a PS3 system. So when I compare, it may or may not be an apples/oranges type thing. One thing I can definitely say is that the mutiple styles per character that was so prominent in the last three games is gone here. Everyone has the same basic move set (aside from special moves). This really does go back to the days before the 3-d games where, no matter what character you played, down and high punch equaled an uppercut, back and low kick equaled a leg sweep.

The past three games got so far away from that basic set up that you never knew what you'd get when ever you tried a new character. Would you get a high punch? Nope. Some kind of kick? Depends on what direction you're holding. It really was that haphazard.

Here they've stream lined it. MK vs. DC is very much taken back to the days of HP, LP, HK, LK. This should make it much easier for casual gamers who are either just getting into MK, haven't played MK in a long while, or are just here for the DC side of things.

Will I like it?:
I personally loved it. The controls are streamlined and easy. Even toned down for a Teen rating, there's no denying the MK roots. Online is very solid. Having wireless instead of wired connection tended to make me lag with other games. Here it's very smooth. If you like fighting games, get this. If you like Mortal Kombat (and aren't going to bemoan the fact that this is slightly toned down in the violence category), get this. If you like DC, get this. Five stars.

DESPITE THE CLUTTER OF RECENT FIGHTING GAMES, FOR THE DC,THERE IS ONE IN PARTICULAR THAT STANDS OUT, AS MORE ORIGINAL. PSYCHIC FORCE IS A FUN AS WELL AS INOVATIVE KINDA GAME.THE PREMISE, IS SOMEWHAT LIKE MARVEL COMIC'SX-MEN YOU GET TO PLAY AS ONE OF THE TEN PSYCHIC ENHANCED CHARACTERS, WHOARE HATED AND FEARED BY MANKIND, DUE TO THIER EXTRODANARY PSYCHICABILITIES. THE CHARACTERS, ARE FOR THE MOST PART, HOVERING HIGH ABOVE THEAIR, DUELING IT OUT USING THEIR ABILITIES,PROJECTILES, SHIELDS, AND THEUSUAL PUNCH & KICK COMBOS. THE CHARACTER DESIGNS ARE MORE OF ANIMEFARE, AND ALTHOUGH THE GRAPHICS ARE NOT ON A PAR WITH NAMCO'S SOUL CALIBUR,IT ADDS DEPTH WITH BRILLIANT COLORS, THE GAMEPLAY IS MUCH CHALLENGING THANSAY, POWER STONE AND MARVEL VS. CAPCOM. I HIGHLY RECOMAND THIS FOR FANS OFJAPANAMATION AS WELL AS FIGHTING AFFICIANADOS. IN A WORD;"brillant!"

Crazy Taxi Review

Crazy Taxi
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ever wanted to drive 90 miles an hour through traffic? Now you can.Crazy taxi is a hilarious, fast-paced, extremely fun driving game. The scenario is perfect and guaranteed to create suspense and to cause big laughs. For example, there are a series of challenge games that pit you against a course or a set of obstacles. My children laugh uproariously when I miss a jump and fall down into the depths of the ocean. The main game is full of little details and surprises. The game goes so quickly that you hardly have time to look around the amazingly realistic city you are working in as a taxi driver. One way to limit the inevitable boredom that comes with mastering a game is to start concentrating on exploring the virtual world. Also, there are options for making the game more difficult.Unlike a race game where you are stuck to the course, this game lets you drive on roofs, through train tunnels and even under the water. There's a sort of guilty joy that comes with driving through the mall in the wake of screaming pedestrians.
This last bit of fun is part of the reason that I don't recommend the game for children and why it is rated Teen. This game does not model thoughtful, defensive driving!Parents should know that some of the characters use mild curse words and say "unsupportive things."Also, the "F" word can be heard on the soundtrack in at least one of the songs. And, I'm sure you're child would hear the song enough times to start to be able to pick out the words. You can turn off the music and the game is just as fun.I think the hard driving music does add an appropriate element of "crazy" to crazy taxi.I recommend Crazy Taxi very highly!

Sonic Adventure 2 Review

Sonic Adventure 2
Average Reviews:

I'm a twelve year old gamer who first found "Sonic Adventure 2" on a demo disk after buying "Phantasy Star Online."I have the original game "Sonic Adventure" and I have to say that the game has much improved.I found in a magazine that the game runs a smooth sixty frames per second and has 6 playable characters including Sonic's pals, Knuckles and Tails.Sonic's adventure is mainly an action/adventure platform, Tail's adventure is a shooting platform, and Knuckles is a rare somewhat of a "hiding go seek" platform. The music for the game is fantastic especially for each action stage since the music sort of sets the mood for each stage.Oh yes, there are more than 30 action stages! The game also has some elements of the original game such as the blasting through each stage as fast as possible or just exploring, but now it is faster, the characters have new moves, new action stages, and basically all of the glitches in the original game are removed such as the falling through the floor.Over all, this game is really exciting, fast paced, fun, and is sure to please any Sonic fan.If you're not a Sonic fan, then this game definitely will make you one.I highly recommend buying this game.It makes you feel proud that you bought that Dreamcast.

When longtime Sega mascot Sonic the Hedgehog made his debut on the Dreamcast console in Sonic Adventure, gamers were stunned. Sega had not only used the game to show off the tremendous possibilities of the then-new hardware, but they had reinvigorated the platform-style arcade adventure genre with massive, intricate levels, gleefully distracting minigames, and even a new kind of virtual pet, called a Chao, that could be combined with other pets, traded with friends, and even exchanged over the Internet. Sonic Adventure 2 ups the ante of its predecessor with all-new puzzles and levels, and even faster action reminiscent of the early Genesis-era games. Knuckles and Tails are back, as are the Chao pets (who can now talk!).

The DC Comics Guide to Digitally Drawing Comics Review

The DC Comics Guide to Digitally Drawing Comics

I was excited when I first learned about this book coming out because it's difficult for me to set up a normal artist's station in my house. Not knowing who this Freddie Williams guy was, I ended up going to his website and checking him out. It was here that I first became dismayed.

His website has a section labeled "DigiArt Quick Tools," in which one can find several Photoshop tools Freddie has available. These include several variations of his MasterPage file, which tend to cost a little bit of money (the bundle pack that gives you all the Master Pages runs I think about $125). I also noticed a blurb in which Freddie mentions that an entire section of the upcoming book is devoted to the Master Page. I immediately started thinking that the book was going to end up being a $15 commercial for the various tools he has to offer.

Never have I been so glad to be so dead wrong.

The section on Master Pages walks you through the process of making your own Master Page, and while he mentions his website, he never tells the reader to go buy anything. Instead, he teaches you how to do it yourself. In fact, there's only one thing that Freddie tells the reader to download, and that's the perspective tool that he created... and its free (as is a generic version of the Master Page, if you don't want to make your own or pay money for a company-specific Page).

As far as the rest of the book goes, it was a massive wake-up call in regards to realizing how powerful and how fast creating sequential artwork on the computer is. In fact, it seems that Freddie's main goal is to get the reader to create better artwork, faster, and he constantly discusses ways to make your work faster and more streamlined.

Be warned, though... this is NOT a "how to draw" book. If you don't know how to draw, this book won't be that helpful to you. This book is more accurately described as a "how to use the computer to draw" book. Additionally, if you don't know how to do any basic drawing in Photoshop, you might want to learn, quick. I have a very basic understanding of how to draw and paint with Photoshop, and this book has my mind racing with all the possibilities I have available to me now. Be prepared to think and imagine when you read the book.

Not every aspect of Freddie's work method will work for everyone, and he acknowledges fact. He describes his methods to the reader, and for key areas offers alternative paths for the reader to take that may be more comfortable for the reader.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes, I did. Did I learn anything from this book? Almost every step of the way. Would I recommend this book to the serious hobbyist or the artist getting into the comics field? Without a doubt and with no reservations, yes!!!!

Ok I was a little mad when I saw the reviews of this game. How can you write a review when you don't even HAVE this game?Well I have this game and I am here to tell you how good it is.First of all this game is fantastic, the graphics are the best for Dreamcast yet and the battle system is completely amazing. The best way to describe the battle system is like lunar: SCCC's battle system in 3D.Also in the battles everyone can be moving at the same time.Another thing about this game is it is SO detailed. In some of the stores you can knock over bottles or knock a picture out of place.Another example of the great detail is in the battles. When a character hits a bad monster, the character blinks there eyes, and when you hit them, you might yell AAAHHHHH or another thing. These are just some of the great things about this game.I won't keep going on telling you how good this game is, you will just have to play it for yourself. This game took me about 30 hours to beat and I literally spent about 10 of my hours battling because it was so fun.Now after you read this I hope you buy this game, the story is excellent and it can be emotional at times.Do not pass up a great game like this, because I can not tell you how good it is and how it changed my life.

After years of not touching video games and finding the few that I tried boring, this game has turned me into a 100% video game junkie again. The graphics on the dreamcast version are smooth and fluid, and the testures used on the levels work perfectly. It's almost like watching a video tape of a skating contest at points. The control is great. After a few minutes with the controller and the manual you don't give a second thought as to how to pull off moves, you just do them.In addition to the gameplay and wonderful graphics, the soundtrack is slamming with 15 different songs and there's a rewards based system to work with to get to the next level which keeps the game going instead of letting you see all the levels right off the bat and ruining the surprise.A musthave.

Product Description:
The original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was so close toperfection that the idea of dramatic improvements in the sequel seemedpretty far-fetched, but Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 offers so muchmore that it almost puts its predecessor to shame. The graphics arevastly improved, there are tons of new tricks to pull off, and the gamehas more secrets than the CIA. Even if you played the original todeath, there's enough new stuff here to keep you occupied for months tocome.
Pro Skater 2 is all about customization. You can still play asone of the real-world skaters represented in the game, such as SteveCaballero, Elissa Steamer, and Mr. Hawk himself, but the real fun comesfrom creating your own skater and rising up through the ranks. As youconquer the massive skate parks included in this release, you rack upcash to be spent on pumping up your stats or adding new tricks to yourrepertoire. You can specialize in verts, concentrate on your streetskills, or take a more balanced approach, and the addition of manualswill let you string together tricks from either category to rack upsome amazing scores. The custom options extend to a complete skate-parkeditor that is easy enough to use that we were creating basic arenas inless than 15 minutes. It's a thoughtful addition to one of the mostpurely entertaining games ever released. --T. Byrl Baker
Pros:

Create-a-Skater option lets you decide on everything from thetricks you use to the shoes you wear
Easy-to-use park editor allows for complex creations
Beautiful graphics and smooth animation make this one of thebest-looking sports games on any platform
Cons:

Getting the hang of manuals takes some time, but once you do, watchout

Soul Calibur Review

Soul Calibur
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Wow.I pride myself on my vocabulary skills but this is the only one-word definition I could come up with for this game.Soul Calibur is the best fighting game ever made...hands down.It also ranks in my top five favorite video games of all time, which is saying a lot because I've played hundreds of games. Now that I've said that, I can get down to the big question:why should you spend your hard earned cash on this game?I'll tell you why...
Graphically, Soul Calibur has some of the best visuals on any system, including PS2.The first time I saw this game in action I was amazed.I've simply never played a game that looks this good. The character animation is incredibly lifelike, both during fighting and in the pre-rendered opening and victory scenes. The backgrounds are very realistic and add to the overall atmosphere of the game.
The music is well done and the sound effects are tremendous. The sounds of blade hitting blade, blade hitting air, and blade hitting flesh are dead-on accurate.I mean I've never actually heard somebody being hacked into with a broadsword in real life, but I'm willing to bet that it would sound pretty close to the sound you hear in Soul Calibur.Other impressive sound effects are the character voices both during and between battles. From the grunts and roars of the hulking Astoroth to the Bruce Lee-esque high-pitched hooting and hollering of the nunchaku-swinging Maxi, these characters come to life.
Control is extremely tight and responsive.Which makes it a lot easier to learn new moves.Every move in the game is easily accessible through the in-fight move menu.Just push pause during a battle and the entire arsenal of moves for your character is available for the taking. The characters are also very well balanced each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
There are 19 characters in all, although nine of them must be unlocked through beating the game in arcade and mission modes. It's through all of the unlocking hidden characters, levels, costumes, options, art cards, game modes, etc., that the game shows its true depth. Each character has his/her own unique weapons and fighting styles. Each character also has hundreds (yes, hundreds) of attacks, combos, and special moves to keep you coming back for more.
As if you needed any more reason to pick this game up, I will mention that the menu system is very streamlined and straight-forward, the two-player mode is a blast, the art gallery is surprisingly well done, the story lines are more than adequately interesting, and at the recently discounted price you'd have to be crazy to pass this one up...Wow.

I just picked up this import and have not quit playing it! This game finally lets you be the "thug" you've always dreamed about being. The game is presented beautifully, from the cartoon-ish graphics right downto the city's themselves. The breaks between stages are absolutely AMAZING!The animation is beautiful!I also love the option to create your own tagsor download them via internet. But all in all, we can't forget the music. If this game had a soundtrack, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. The music goesalong perfectly with the games atmosphere and frantic play. My onlycomplaint on this game is (with almost every other game with it) is thecamera. Hopefully this will be fixed for the American version. This game isTHE reason to buy a dreamcast. I can safely say this game blows Crazy Taxiout of the water. If you have a DC, BUY THIS GAME!

Product Description:
In Jet Grind Radio, you play a whacked out kid who's completely torqued off about the system. It seems that the city of Tokyoto is not terribly kid-friendly and wants to keep things neat and pretty. You, the skater punk, figure that the only way to rebel is with your inline skates and a couple of cans of Krylon. That kind of attitude can lead to trouble when you're in the real world; but, in the world of Jet Grind Radio, there are no paint fumes, and it's all done in the name of fun and scoring points.
Jet Grind Radio's gameplay has some of the feel of Crazy Taxi. As you skate, you see little floating arrows that indicate where you should go (and where you should be tagging). Also, like in Crazy Taxi, the pace of the game is absolutely nonstop. There is moving traffic in the street, and nearly everything can be jumped, hopped, or ground. Underscoring all of this action is a DJ at the local hip-hop station, who spins cool tunes while you tear up Little Tokyoto.
The game starts out with a training course that's designed to bring you up to speed. Pay good attention to this section; it teaches you the basics, and you're tested on one of the lessons right away. Learning how to hop over obstacles while keeping a rail grind going is particularly helpful.
After graduating into the real game, you have the option of going it cool or easing up and figuring out how to do the flips, splits, and other midair antics that make this game so much fun. Once your skating skills are set, you'll learn the spray-can side of things. You pick up cans of paint as you maneuver around (keep your eyes open--some cans are placed in those hard-to-reach places, so that you'll have to catch serious air to get them). After securing your fill, use the left trigger and the analog to spray as you pass by areas that have

I'm a 23 three year old gamer so it's safe to say I normally don't play kid's games. I came across this game and wanted everyone to know the bottom line for this game is fun. It's been a long time since I've been able to sit and play a game for a long period of time and still be excited about it. Magazines and internet websites may have given TEEN TITANS a bad rating due to the characters and the fact it's not revolutionizing the gaming industry. Also, it takes a few minutes to become used to having so much on the screen at once. TEEN TITANS is a standard beat 'em up but being able to switch characters on the fly keeps the game from ever becoming boring. The combos are simple enough to pull off, but each character has their own unique talents. Also the game progresses, stronger and new attacks are unlocked. And I have to say it's very satisfying playing as beast boy and using him to turn into a t-rex and knock everyone down, then turn into a lion to swat and roar, then then finally becoming a rhino to plow down anyone that's left. For the price of $19.99, this game is a steal.

Batman Begins Review

Batman Begins
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've never been a fan of movie-based video games. You either play the game before watching the movie, and get yourself spoiled, or the other way around. It's a similar story when I was deciding whether to get Batman Begins. This is especially so when reviews on major gaming sites have unanimously slammed this game as an also-ran. Still, I went with my gut feeling and bought it anyhow, and I haven't regretted since.

If you've watched the movie, you'd notice that the plot in this game follows the one in the movie closely. I won't call it an exact replica, but you basically play through the movie, with variations as to how some objectives are achieved. You begin with a prologue, which takes you through some of the basics of the games. This is then followed by the Himalayans training section, which teaches you even more controls. From then on, you pretty much spend your game in Gotham, and boy, what a beautiful city this is.

Gotham is a sight to behold because the graphics in this game are quite awesome. The game takes you to various locales from the movie, like the earlier mentioned Himalayas, the Gotham Docks where Batman downed Falcone, and the Arkham Asylum where the Scarecrow operates, etc. The characters faces are really lifelike, but this is of course expected, since they are modeled after the actors. You also get to see actual footage from the movie, which is a nice touch that pushes the story forward a little in between the levels.

The controls for the game are quite straightforward. With the PS2, you get to kick using the triangle button and punch using the square button. When your enemy is close to expiry, you can use the circle button to "finish" him off. The X button is used for jumping. The shoulders buttons allow you to equip items and use them, as well as blocking an attack and rolling on the ground. It's all quite basic, and overall adequate in undergoing the various missions.

The game itself has several elements. You can call it an action game, but it's also a stealth game. Since an unarmed Batman is often easily wasted by an opponent with guns, you will need to sneak up on these opponents by patiently waiting for your chance, before performing a stealth kill on them. You can also use fear tactics to scare these dudes into dropping their guns, and these include sending boxes of crates towards them, setting off a security alarm (for a few times) and using a crane to lift a car up in midair. All these sound rather confusing, but the design of the game makes it very easy to achieve, and the linear nature of the game means that you're almost always told what to do so you won't get lost.

The game also feels like a Prince of Persia game at times, what with all the jumping around. Finding a way from point A to point B requires a careful scrutiny of the environment, and choosing the only right way to proceed. Therefore, it's entirely possible to miss a jump and fall to your dismal death. The good thing is, you always begin at your last save point, so you won't need to backtrack too much. There are a lot of these save points too, so you can safely maneuver without worrying too much about dying.

There are also two levels in the game that turn the game into a racing game, albeit only for these levels. Much like the Burnout series (now wholly owned by EA), you get to control the Tumbler and set off a journey of taking opponents down (Road Rage), beating a time limit to a destination (Time Attack), and even finding a "boss car" to destroy using the Batmobile's weapons. Way cool, if you ask me.

The audios of this game are also awesome. Having voice-acting from the actual actors from the show is one thing. Making them sound like they actually care, and belong, to the game is another. The soundtrack is also dynamic, providing a really neat tribute to the dark nature of the movie.

My main complaint for this game is the quite frequent slowdown in frame rate. It almost always happens when I'm moving when a conversation by opponents is going on. It's quite frustrating because here you're trying to move quickly without getting noticed, yet the game doesn't let you. The camera angle is also quite clumsy at times, even though you've full control of what you want to see. Apart from these, I'm quite satisfied with the game on the whole.

So, here you have it. A review from a fan who actually played through the game twice. Ok, maybe I'm pleased because I didn't have high expectations. But seriously, for a game that provides so much fun, I think the bad reviews are perhaps a little too harsh. Don't trust me for that though. Get hold of the game and try it for yourself. You may end up being a fan too.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Review

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
Average Reviews:

It seems the more you read people talking about this game they either love it or hate it.I fall in the middle.I am just a casual gamer I play every now and then at night or on weekends, but I don't spend every waking moment with a controller in my hands. So take that into consideration as I make this review.

Overall I think this a fun game.I have been playing Mortal Kombat games for a long time now and I find this one just as enjoyable.I think the mix of character is nice with some of your most popular MK characters with some of the most recognizable DC comics heroes and villains.

The gameplay has been tweaked a bit since the previous MK game, but it is nothing that you can't adjust to, and overall I think it offers more character control. The special moves or super moves as called in the game are a fun mix too with most of your favorite moves form you MK characters kept in with a mix of a few new ones to keep things interesting.

We do have a return of the preprogrammed fatalities, but they have been toned down.No more dismemberment, decapitation, or removal of vital organs. This may be a big deal for you, but I don't require a high level of gore to enjoy a video game.

As far as I can tell there are no hidden characters in the game, other then the unlockable boss characters. So don't expect to find Reptile or the Martian Manhunter. But like most Xbox 360 games the game will support downloadable content in the future. But when new fighters show up is up to the video game publisher.

If you are trying to chose between the kollectors edition and the basica game save your money. The comic book that comes with the game is a quite small and almost just like a pamphlet and does not really add anything to the story. There is a small poster and a making of dvd.but you will probably be able to see all those videos on youtube before too long.

So a hardcore mortal kombat fan or gamer may not enjoy this game too much as it comes up short on gore and hidden characters. But the game still presents and interesting storyline and a chance to play as some of your favorite DC comics characters.I have it I enjoy playing it and hope to have fun with friends playing as superheros and undead ninjas.

The story of how the heroes and villains of Mortal Kombat and theDC universe could find themselves not only existing on the same plain, butbattling each other revolves around coincidental victories in the respectiverealms by Raiden and Superman. In Raiden's case it was a victory over ShaoKahn, while Superman bested Darkseid. These occurred at the exact same timeand involved inter-dimensional elements, which somehow merged their twoenemies into one being, Dark Kahn, while allowing the characters of thetwo universes to interact. In this merging the powers of the heroes andvillains are scrambled as well, making some stronger than they ever were, and leaving others vulnerable for the first time in their lives, allowingeach to battle on more or less equal footing. And battle they do withoutrealizing that the uncontrollable rage that they feel for each other isactually the work of Dark Khan.

Batman: Arkham Asylum Review

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For years and years, gamers (myself included) have played many different Batman video games and have only been let down time after time.

Now, Batman: Arkham Asylum IS that Batman game that you have always wanted to play.

It satisfies every part of you Batman desires and really gives you the feeling that you ARE Batman.

From the strength and power to the gadgets to the stealth and surprise you can bring toward your enemy, it is quite a marvel that a game developer finally got it right.

Thank you Rocksteady!

I do not want to give away any spoilers from the game so the plot is really basic and simple.

The Joker has taken total control over Arkham island and Batman needs to hunt him down to stop him, but not without going through many of Batman's familiar villians in the process.

Batman's gadgets come in handy often, most of the time you will be using his 'detective mode' which is built into the cowl and gives you the ability to see important items in the room and clues to lead you in the right direction.

There will be some moments where you find yourself just playing with all of Batman' gadgets for 10-15 minutes because there are so many of them to play with. (It feeds your inner dork so it's okay!)

Gameplay mechanics are solid and I have yet to find a defect in them or any glitches.

Fighting is very enjoyable, because you can be surrounded by 6-10 enemies and everytime an enemy is about to attack you hit the counter-attack button and continue to fight off all of them at once. Very fun.

The graphics are amazing and highly detailed like you would expect from a PS3.

Voice-over work is superb and Mark Hamill, as The Joker, really steals the show. If they gave out Oscars for Best Video Game Voice-Over Performance then Hamill would easily win it for this game!

All in all, Batman games have been so poor for so long, it is exciting to see a Batman game done right and this is worthy of a $60 purchase.

Go and get it and play it with the lights off in the dark with the sound blasting.

Viewlarger. Story
Batman: Arkham Asylum features an original story penned exclusively for the game by famous Batman author and five-time Emmy award winner, Paul Dini, whose credits include "Lost" season one and "Batman: The Animated Series." As the game begins Batman is personally delivering his nemesis, The Joker, to the asylum at Arkham Island, but he is uneasy. Although the Arkham asylum is well fortified, he has a nagging feeling that all is not well, which proves to be the case when seconds after turning The Joker over to the guards, the master criminal breaks free of his captors. Even more surprising than this quick turn of events is the revelation that it was never The Joker's intent to escape the vault-like facility, but instead to trap Batman there. Surrounded by an asylum full of dangerous criminals, many of which he put there and all at the beck and call of the Joker, can Batman survive and discover what is behind the Joker's intricate plot?

Gameplay
In Batman: Arkham Asylum players strap on the gadget-heavy utility belt of the Caped Crusader. Gameplay here is a combination of both the knuckle crunching rush of hand to hand combat as you take on the hordes of thugs that infest Arkham Asylum, and stealth gameplay in which you must dispatch individuals from the shadows. Players can expect an engrossing single player campaign in which Batman continually moves forward to face the henchmen, bosses and traps that The Joker has set for him. With regards to opponents, in addition to The Joker who you will hear more than you see, the dark walls of Arkham also hold familiar villains from the the Batman criminal universe including Harley Quinn, Victor Zsasz and Killer Croc, that you will have to deal with, but don't expect a one-dimensional experience. As players progress from environment to environment within Arkham they will have to use varying combinations of muscle, detective skills, gadgetry and a certain degree of light RPG-like leveling of Batman's skills, arsenal and physical characteristics to survive and discover what The Joker's underlying scheme is.

In addition to the story-driven single player campaign Arkham Asylumalso contains various additional play modes. These include an arcade styledcombat mode where players accumulate points by engaging hordes of thugsin a hand to hand slugfest across a series of maps, in which Batman'sphysical strength and agility play a major role. The key here is to chaintogether as many attacks as possible due to the fact that with each successfulcombo players increase the point multiplier associated with their actions. The game also features a time-based stealth mode where players must honetheir ability to strike silently from the shadows. This gameplay, referredto as 'Invisible Predator' utilizes the Dark Knight's skill with gadgetslike the grapple tool, batarang and explosives. These allow for vertical/horizontalmobility, the ability to quickly strike from above and at a distance andto take out enemies and create distractions, even through walls. But rememberthat Batman works solo and is not superhuman. Your enemies will congregatearound trouble areas and work as a team against you, so you must besilent, plan your attacks wisely, strike quickly and discover the valueof encouraging fear within enemies.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Review

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

I was a huge skeptic of this game at first, MK VS DC, it was like combining toothpaste with orange juice...."Ugh"!
But Midway pulled it off. I spent probably 3 hours with the game last night (alas no online yet) and was very pleased.
First off the PS3's controller rocked the house as far as response with the D-pad.
Second; The game itself is FUN, not only do you have the standard arcade "Tower of Power" to climb, this MK throws in a neat story mode with beautiful cut scenes and a unique way to play all the characters.
While playing the game, I never even noticed the fact it was "T" rated, blood still flies, body's and costumes get damaged (you can actually knock off Scorpion's mask), and the fighting is just plain brutal.
There's 3 new gimmicks within the matches Close Kombat, Free Fall Kombat, and Test Your Might, which add some flair to the matches.
Free Fall is cool as heck.
Fatalities are here, and even toned down, they look great. I reduced Wonder Woman to skeletal remains with a "Lava Bath" the burned Captain Marvel to a crisp with "Hellfire" both courtesy of Scorpion.
Even blade happy Barraka has cool Fatalities, my favorite is the "Impale", where he knocks an opponent on his back, jumps on top of him, punches him in the chest, then fires his blades into the victim.
Looks awesome, not gory, but looks awesome.
There is going to be a learning curve to take advantage of the combos, and the game can kick your butt even on easy.
All in all this looks and feels like an MK game without a doubt, and definite improvement over all the MK games since MKIII.
I would like to see MK return to it's "M" rated roots, but I'll sacrifice a little gore over game play any day.
