Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 Review

Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I start my review, I want to make one thing very clear. Anytime a racing game like TXR3 is compared to benchmarks like the Gran Turismo or Project Gotham series, it will almost always finish behind. Is that always fair? I think not! Any street-racing game should stand on its own merits and not the merits of others. A red apple should be based on its qualities as a red apple and not a green one, so TXR3 should also be based on what it is instead of what it isn't. With that, let's get started!
TXR3 is the latest in the TXR series that started with the original TXR game followed by TXR2 and TXR Zero. All are fun and addicting games to play with more than their share of annoying little quibbles but the charm lies in its unique game play and the ability to race a seemingly endless number of rivals. Those particular qualities remain intact with some new twist that surely makes TXR3 the best in the series so far.
One of the first things you'll notice is that all the vehicles no longer use thinly disguised manufacturer names. Genki, the producers of the game, managed to obtain licensing from the car companies to use actual model names. A very obvious omission from the ranks is Honda/Acura. From what I understand, either Honda did not allow Genki to use their designs and names or they couldn't get proper licensing in time so if you are a Honda/Acura fan, you're out of luck but TXR3 does have some new kids on the block like Gemballa, DeTomaso, Volkswagen, and Lotus to name a few as well as the usual cast of Asian regulars. And don't forget to check out the all-new Ford GT! Another major change is now you have 3 areas to race instead of one. Along with the highways of Tokyo, there is Osaka and Nagoya to race. Combine those area's 200+ miles of road with 600 rivals to compete against, you'll have a game that will keep you busy for awhile.
The premise of the game hasn't changed much since the beginning -find a rival, flash your lights, race, and win (or lose) depending on whose meter runs out first. Every rival is part of a gang that must be beaten before you can race the leader of the gang. This, in itself, doesn't sound particularly thrilling but there is an undeniable rush when beating your rivals and accumulating funds to buy better cars and modifications to try to beat even faster rivals. And it doesn't stop there! You can also do engine swaps from hi-revving inline-4's to brawny V-8's that go beyond the normal engine upgrades that can really give your ride some very serious power! If that isn't enough, you'll also have the chance to race two bosses at the same time in some situations! Double the pleasure when you win but double the defeat if you don't. Also new for this series is the weather-effects. You'll have many opportunities to race in the rain and snow, although the snow doesn't accumulate but those roads sure get icy! It adds a great dimension to the game that makes you prepare for every race you encounter.
Sound? Definitely better. All the variety of engines now make the appropriate noises from the buzzy 4's to the burbling V-8's and even the 'squish' of the tires on the rain-soaked roads are worth noting. I can't say much for the music, though. If you like the typical power-grunge rock, then this is right up your alley. Personally, I never listen to the music when I'm playing. With the new and proper engine sounds combined with gear-revving, tires squealing, and turbo waste gate whoosh-ing, that's the best music you can have! The music is just a distraction from that.
The graphics are certainly better and a little cleaner than the previous series and the graphics for the weather-effects are superb. The only drawback is that there seems to be an awful lot of pop-ups, especially on the weather-effects. It's not too noticeable when you are driving fast but it's easy to see the buildings and overpasses fill in as you move forward, even when viewing this from the rear-view mirror. This doesn't effect the game play but on some sections of the roads when traveling super fast on rainy days, the pop-ups aren't visible until it's too late and suddenly you find yourself having to make a micro- second decision on what path to take and by then you've crashed big time. Come to think of it, this would probably happen in real life.
Summary:
Hits
* More highways, more cars, more rivals, endless modifications.
* Better road feel, less 'floatiness'.
* Realistic weather-effects.
* Good graphics.
Misses
* Lots of pop-ups on rain/snow days.
* Some bosses start way in front of you before you race.
* WAY too many yellow "Official" vans on the road.
* Absence of Honda/Acura vehicles (which may not necessarily be a bad thing!) :-)
All in all, a first rate game with a tremendous replay value loaded with new options that make it even more fun to play. And that's why I give it 5 stars because it's just good old, bumper-to-bumper, winner-takes-all, fun! Bottom line, if you liked the previous series, go out and lay down your $20.00 for your own copy. It's that simple! If you didn't like it before, rent it and play it. You might be surprised!

In 2001, Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero gave players the opportunity to tear up the highways of Tokyo. Now two years later, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 adds the highways of Yokohama, Osaka and Nagoya, taking total road length to a monster 200 miles. All of it accurately modeled to look and feel just like modern Japan. For the first time in the series' history, TXR3 uses real cars licensed from Japanese, North American and European car manufacturers.

NFL 2K Review

This game has the best graphics of any sports game I've ever seen, and it's extremely fun to play against a friend one on one. When playing in cold weather, each player's breath can be seen, which is just one of theawesome things you'll see here. A drawback is that you can't play afranchise mode like on Madden 2000, and this is a must now for die-hardfootball gamers.NFL 2K is better than Madden 2000 despite having lessfeatures because it simply feels more real.In Madden 2000, use theinstant replay on pass receptions to see just how comical it looks when apass just drops into a receiver's body without his hands moving, or hiseyes focused on the ball.It looks as though you will not find this typeof blocky and sometimes unrealistic gameplay on the Dreamcast. On NFL 2K,instant replays reveal true one-handed catches, balls going right through areceiver's outstretched hands, and other types of situations that lookreal. The running game in NFL 2K could use a little improvement, butoverall this game is just pure fun and reality for anyone who enjoysplaying football video games.

Extreme G3 Racing Review

Extreme G-3 is perhaps the biggest surprise of the year, at least for me. After playing the first and second ones (both were only mediocre), I wasn't expecting anything spectacular from this installment on the PS2. But man, when I booted it up I was instantly hooked. It sports some truly amazing graphics, and the overall speed keeps you coming back for more. The framerate is excellent, even in two player mode, and there's plenty to unlock and discover. One of the best games of the year in my book, go buy it.

This game also sports a landscape animator that renders course environments in a graphically detailed, futuristic style that's visually compelling.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero Review

This is a very cool racing game.Instead of the usual pick a car, track, and race other cars, you actually cruise the streets for opponents, challenge them, and if you win use the money to tune your street machine even more.
There are alot of very innovative things in this game. You cruise the streets in your car, and flash your headlights at other tuned up cars and challenge them to a race. This makes the game very realistic. As you cruise looking for opponents there are civilian vehicles on the road to avoid. The civilian cars are realitivly smart too, if you stop in a lane and put on your hazard lights, they'll change lanes to avoid you, very realistic. You can upgrade your car many ways from adding ground effects to stickers to wheels and horsepower upgrades. The cars are not named (like honda civic, mitsubishi eclipse etc.) they have numbers instead, but are still recognizable to their real life counterparts. There are a TON of rival gangs to race, and a variety of other modes like time attack, and free run.
Although the game is a great new take on racing, the graphics are nothing special. When compared to gran turismo 3's city night scenes, they look very poor. But the graphics are still above psx level, and the cars are very good looking.
This is a great racing game, but if i had to pick one, i would go with gt3.Still it's worth getting tokyo extreme racer zero if you are at all interested in import racing.

Crazy Taxi Review

Crazy Taxi
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ever wanted to drive 90 miles an hour through traffic? Now you can.Crazy taxi is a hilarious, fast-paced, extremely fun driving game. The scenario is perfect and guaranteed to create suspense and to cause big laughs. For example, there are a series of challenge games that pit you against a course or a set of obstacles. My children laugh uproariously when I miss a jump and fall down into the depths of the ocean. The main game is full of little details and surprises. The game goes so quickly that you hardly have time to look around the amazingly realistic city you are working in as a taxi driver. One way to limit the inevitable boredom that comes with mastering a game is to start concentrating on exploring the virtual world. Also, there are options for making the game more difficult.Unlike a race game where you are stuck to the course, this game lets you drive on roofs, through train tunnels and even under the water. There's a sort of guilty joy that comes with driving through the mall in the wake of screaming pedestrians.
This last bit of fun is part of the reason that I don't recommend the game for children and why it is rated Teen. This game does not model thoughtful, defensive driving!Parents should know that some of the characters use mild curse words and say "unsupportive things."Also, the "F" word can be heard on the soundtrack in at least one of the songs. And, I'm sure you're child would hear the song enough times to start to be able to pick out the words. You can turn off the music and the game is just as fun.I think the hard driving music does add an appropriate element of "crazy" to crazy taxi.I recommend Crazy Taxi very highly!

ATV Offroad Fury, Greatest Hits Review

ATV Offroad Fury, Greatest Hits
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is a must. If you love four-wheelers or just racing games, add this to your PS2 library. If you have ever played Smugglers Run and love the choice of roaming around, you'll love ATV Off Road Fury. First, the good things: This game has INCREDIBLE GRAPHICS!!!! The graphics are crystal clear with outstanding surroundings and breath-taking backgrounds. This game allows you to do 6 options, Training, Maxxis Nationals, Stadium Supercross, Freestyle Competition, Cross Country Enduro, and Pro Career. You can customize your four-wheeler by fixing its tire friction, front and rear shock, front and rear spring, gear ratio(speed and acceleration), steering, and braking. You can also choose between 20 ATV's, including top brands such as Ravage, Honda, Yamaha, Havoc, Kawasaki, and Polaris. Here's a description of the options. Training mode teaches you the basics of becoming a pro, from riding wheelies to landing jumps. The Maxxis Nationals allows you to practice or race in beautiful outside courses. The Stadium Supercross lets you practice or race incredible inside courses with humongous jumps. Freestyle competition and Cross Country Enduro have enormous jumps and let you roam around or race. If you happen to roam around, look for cacti, trees, buildings, campsites, airports, and more in these wonderful 3D landscapes. Pro Career allows you to race in certain courses in order to unlock new ones. The things I love the most about this game are the graphics, the humongous jumps, all 20 3D courses, and all 16 tricks they allow you to pull off. This game will also keep your appeal. You will never get bored from this game. Another this is the music and sound. They are crystal clear and play some pretty neat songs. Second, the bad thing: This ISN'T A BIG DEAL but could be improved to make the game even better. The camera angle doesn't allow you to switch to an inside the driver view, therefore not allowing you to feel as much of the high altitude and crashes as with other camera angles. The closest view is from behind the driver.Overall this game is an absolute must have for all of the intense racing fans.

Tourist Trophy Review

Tourist Trophy
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love motorcycle racing and wanted a good bike game for my PS2. All the professional reviews I had read said that Tourist Trophy (TT) was good, but way too hard, so I never tried it. I'm not a particularly skilled PS2 player, so the "hard" label put me off.

After reading a few reviews here that said it wasn't so difficult, for a racing game, I decided to give it a try and am I ever glad I did! The controls aren't nearly as hard as implied. If you have even a little speed you can lean way over without falling and braking in turns isn't always going to cause you to crash. Like any other racing game, the key is to be smooth, which comes with experience.

Unlike Gran Tourismo 4 (GT4), where I lack a majority of the upper level licenses, I've cruised through three of the four license levels in short order and am winning bikes by racing and by Challenge.

Those familiar with GT4 will recognize the same basic menu design and the same high quality of bike presentation and race tracks. Many of the tracks are the same as on GT4, which helps veterans of that game.

There are over 90 bikes, ranging from Scooters to 1100cc Cruisers to 125cc 2-stroke racers to the custom Superbike racers. The oldest bikes are from the 70s and there are some noticable holes in the catalog, but it is only 90 bikes. I'd like to see the next version expand to include more historic bikes, like how GT4 improved over GT3.

Like GT4 you must complete license tests, which are like interactive tutorials. The first two license classes will show the best line on the track, with blue where you should accelerate, red where you should brake, and white where you should idle. It is a great way of learning how to negotiate the various turns and learning what to look for in the best racing lines.

Ironically, the most difficult of the license tests is the third one in the novice class, where you must ride a scooter around a perfect circle within a specific time, without straying outside and hitting any of the cones. I couldn't have passed this one without the advice given in the Prima Strategy guide, which for those few license tips alone is worth the price.

The strategy guide also shows all the bikes you win for various races or licenses, as well as gives the basic bike stats and serves as a nice guide to see what your opposition is capable of when lining up for a race.

For the third and fourth license levels, you are on your own as far as figuring the best lines. The fourth license level is a timed lap on various tracks with various bikes, so you'll get used to some of the basic tracks by completing this level.

Like GT4, you earn bikes by winning races or race series. If you get gold in a license test, you will also win a bike. The other way to get bikes is in Challenges. With these, you look in the catalog for a bike you want and select it.

To win the bike you must race it against another bike, which is in the lead. You must pass it and lead for 10 seconds or must cross the finish line first. This is easier on some bikes than others even within the same class, because the opponent varies from bike to bike.

For example, to win a street racer in the 1000cc class you have 4 major bikes worth getting, the Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki. To win the Honda, Kawasaki or Yamaha, you must race one of these four bikes. But to win the Suzuki, you go up against the Ducati, which is 20+ hp less and about 10 kg more, and thus is easier to beat.

Unlike GT4. there is no money and the "add-ons" are limited to exhaust upgrades, which come with the bike. You can make a few mods to the suspension, gearing and braking, but the options are much more limited than in GT4. This is a good thing though, as it is way too easy to get lost in GT4 and not so here in TT.

This is another area where the Prima guide comes in handy, as it has 7 pages of sound advice on the various tuning options, which you should mess with and how, and which you should leave alone. Another selling point for the guide are the track maps, which show typical slowest speeds on selected corners. The Prima Guide is a "must have" for this game, IMO.

Like GT4, there are a number of different race classes, which allow you to use a majority of the bikes you will collect from racing wins. There are classes based on engine size, engine type, the year the bike was released, and for specific models. There are a total of 23 racing series/classes, with 3-7 races each.

TT supports replays and "photos" similar to how GT4 handles them. The game supports the use of a USB flash drive plugged into one of the PS2's USB ports and can store the jpgs output by the photo session, as well as the replays, which can be quite large. The game also supports printing of "photos" directly to USB photo printer.

Photos can be generated automatically from the replay menu. The game scans the replay and makes a series of photos as it finds things worth keeping. Some are good, some are not so good. You can save individual ones to the memory card or a USB flash drive. When saved to a flash drive, they are saved as jpgs, which can be read by your PC (not tested yet as I lack a flash drive).

Overall, I find the game easier to approach and play than GT4, which was easy enough to become a best seller. It looks and feels real enough, without being impossibly hard. Once you learn the basics and get used to it, you will find yourself winning bikes and races and getting faster and faster as you learn the tracks.

My wish is that Polyphony Digital will do for dirt bike racing what they've done for auto racing and now for motorcycle road racing.

If you are at all into motorcycle road racing and have a PS2, get this game and the Prima Strategy guide. You won't be sorry!

MX vs ATV Unleashed Review

MX vs ATV Unleashed
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game really has lots of choices to choose from! I rented this game once before and the first thing on my mind was this game isn't going to go well and I hade to return it, but my thoughts were wrong. This game did go well and I'm anxious to rent it and play it again!

For the tracks, you have a lot of choices like "Freestyle," "Hillclimb," "Gap jump," and much more! Plus in all of the events in the game have multiple tracks in them like "Los Angeles," New Orleans," and much more! So you have more choices when choosing and racing in a track!

There is also a lot of vheicles to choose from like "ATV," "Monster Truck," "Baja Truck," and more! Plus you can customize any vheicle you choose! And you can even use "planes" and "helicopters" too!

Sometimes when in any race, you can do stunts to earn points. And if you have enought points, you can unlock a vheicle that is available to you! But watch your stunts and how you do them.

When you crash, it might take a few seconds to get back on track. If you're on any vheicle like an "ATV," you should be caucious whe doing anything like stunts so you don't crash. And also when in any vheicle, try not to ride off track. You have 5 seconds to get back on track but if you don't get back on track in 5 seconds, your vheicle will be put back in the origional spot you came from, and that can put you behind in a race! So try not to go off track and try not to crash! If you follow these tips, you should have an easier race!

When you finish in first place in reguler modes, you just walk away with victory or any points you earned during your race. But when you finish first place in Career Mode, especially in a tournament, you might get a new vheicle, with points you might have earned, and also... sweet victory!

For the riders, you can change their cloths from head to toe! You can change the helmet, goggles, suit, and boots! And you can even change the name of your rider! Just keep it short but sweet.

When about to race, you can choose your opponents from any vheicle that you unlocked and now available! And you can have up to 5 opponents in every race. But choose your opponents wisely! And you can choose the number of laps from 2-5! It doesn't matter!

If you want more challenge, in Career Mode, you have a ton of challenges you can complete and lots of vheicles to unlock on your way to the top! But be careful out there, it's a tough race to beat in Career Mode!

If you feel like listening to music, you can listen to music when you race. Or you can go to the Jukebox in one of the menus, select a song, and start listening! There's all kinds of music like "Crossfade," "Powerman 5000," Unwritten Law," and much more music to choose from.

I've seen a lot of MX or ATV games before like ATV Off Road Fury 1, 2, 3, but to be honest, this one is the best with the most choices! I highly recommend this game to buy and race in more than any other game out there!

Enjoy MX vs. ATV Unleashed! You won't regret it! Trust Me!

Madagascar Kartz Review

Madagascar Kartz
Average Reviews:

We bought this game for our 5-year-old son for Christmas as his first game to play on our PS3.It's moderately fun for grown-ups but very challenging for the little ones --I have 2 major complaints with this game:

#1- There is no "free driving" mode where a kid can just have fun driving around and check out the tracks. It is NOT fun for a 5-year old to come in 6th place every time when he really just wants to drive around. This is his first racing game and we have to teach him about power-ups, tricks, turbo, and shortcuts and it's hard to do that in this game since it is set up to be hyper-competitive.

#2- On Multiplayer mode you cannot disable the computer characters.I'd love to be able to just play one on one with my son in order to teach him the tracks but again the computer players make this very difficult and I wind up with a frustrated 5-year old in 6th (or 5th if I hold back and just follow him around the track)place.

I've been playing games for about 20 years, we have a PS3 and a Wii at the house and play a lot of games. I understand the concept of racing games, but thought that one marketed solely at kids would be a bit-more kid-friendly.They already had the game built--would it have cost them anything to put in a free-race mode?We were hoping to be able to have this game that all three of us could play on the PS3 but actually my son is so frustrated we'll probably be putting this one away for 6 months to a year and get him back on some of my Wii games.

Sonic Riders Review

Sonic Riders
Average Reviews:

There is just so much hype going on with Sony right now, on their upcoming Playstation 3 video game console. While that has been the case with fans, there are still some great challenges Playstation 2 fanatics arguably still have a chance to come to play with. That has also been the case with Sonic The Hedgehog as well. Since his debut in the 90's, his character has always been changing around with the need of blue speed for a longtime. Although he has had some great platformers, his racing games weren't really up to par and lacked challenge from Sonic R from the Sega Saturn era, and Sonic Drift 2, a knock off of the Mario Kart games. This time, the fast and the furious definitely are fast and furious.

Sonic Rider for the Playstation 2 is a wild and outrageous ride that takes you in and out of the worlds of Sonic. The game play is more than just simple. There are over a dozen of wild and outrageous tracks like Metal City, Sky Road, and Dr. Robotnik's Egg Factory. In the game you can play through the EX World Grand Prix, and work your way to the top of the pack, or try to improve your skills with the mission mode, where you have to undergo tyricks and collect items within a certain period of time. But, Story mode is where you really learn the basis of the game through the eyes of Sonic, and the Rogues Jet, Storm, and Wave who are new to the Sonic games.

There are also unlockable characters like Shadow, Cream, and others if your practice right. The graphics and sound are definitely amazing, but the manuverability on some of the boards is very difficult, and takes a whole lot to get used to at first. Not only that, but you have to also perform a lot of tricks to keep your air up, and with the race. If you use too much, you will wipe out, and try to scurry over to a speedy pit stop.

Despite a couple of mishaps, Sonic Riders is a delightful game for anybody who is a die hard Sonic fan, or just wants a change in the thrill of racing games. This is a very good game for the Playstation 2, and still shows Sonic has a bit of strength in his franchise.

*** As I've updated my thoughts on various aspects of this game, I've wound up writing an extremely long and complex review. My apologies, though it's pretty amusing considering the game I'm discussing.Long story short: the game isn't perfect, but it's awesome and a huge step forward.

This game lives up to expectations as a major leap forward from GT4 and a cutting edge PS3 experience, so long as you're realistic and actually wanted a Gran Turismo style game.If you're expecting a game that is fully accessible quickly, instead of demanding patience and repeated accomplishment, or a game where you're forgiven for a lack of finesse, this may not be what you're looking for.

How to play: I've been a fan of this series since the original Playstation edition.I've generally played all Gran Turismo games by acquiring a cheap car (a used Mazda MX-5 in this game), beating a few license tests, racing for money to upgrade my car, and then buying a faster car and yet more upgrades for it.As this goes along, I wind up building a racing empire, beating all the license tests (which open up access to harder races), and having a great time.

In GT5, there's a new element that changes this. You gain A-Spec exp for various accomplishments and have a level for A Spec and B Spec (B Spec refers to the AI driving your car for you).Every race and car and special event has a level (some are level 0) you must reach before accessing. If you hate the licenses, you can see the rest of the game without them by gaining levels (such as by winning races).Personally, I'm still beating the licenses (and you gain levels very fast this way), and playing through as I always have.

Graphics: The graphics are stunning.I was expecting the quality to equal Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, but they are improved somewhat, particularly with regard to anti aliasing.Tracks look lovely, and even the notorious 800 'non-premium' cars look excellent. If these were the best the game had to offer, GT5 would be the prettiest racer yet.And yet the 200 premium cars take that to the next level.Tracks are astonishing.Nurburgring is stunning, as the shadows from trees reflect off the suede interior of my Aston Martin DBS, and the sun sets, the line from 'uncanny valley' to simply 'you're really there' is crossed.I don't see how graphics can improve from this point and my eyes be able to detect it.One neat addition is how lights reflect off mist, other cars, gleam onto things, etc.The shadows are not as well done as I like, leaving some jagged edges, but otherwise the game looks amazing.

Sound: I have always complained that Gran Turismo's sounds are too synthetic and unrealistic.GT5 has made a huge leap forward.Change your exhaust system and you actually can hear it.I can tell if a car is a V8 or a V6.That magestic sound of a Ferrari's 12 cylinders is actually represented.I still hope the game moves forward with a few details. You don't get the throaty idle of an old pony car [edit: I stand corrected... the Cobra 427 has a raspy idle and sounds great)... but then you shouldn't be standing still in the first place. It sounds amazing on my 5.1 system.Lots of car sims support 5.1, but the doppler effect and different engine noises show incredible realism here.I really like the long list of BGM songs and menu music, but the game supports your own mp3s, which is wonderful because I will be playing this game long enough to want new tunes. The audio improvements also make the replays much more exciting. You will know what I mean when you watch some (or play B-Spec, where you command the computer to drive for you), though it's hard to really describe. You feel much more like you're at the race.

AI: It's great.I could swear that a car retaliated against me.GT has tended to have weak AI that drives in a row, and that is thankfully not the problem. In B-Spec you can monitor the mental fatigue and attitude of the AI competitors, and that kind of thing appears to be tracked in the other cars. The AI gets stronger as you progress to harder races (as do their cars).

Physics: Some will not enjoy racing this series on its full realism settings. If you're not talented, this game's maximum realism settings are simply very hard. The game makes some effort to accomodate the rest of us mere mortals with a lot of aids and settings, but actually being competitive with this game takes work.I think the physics scratch that realism itch many PC gamers have been demanding for years. You have to develop some skills before the game can really be appreciated. There don't seem to be mechanical breakdowns (IE: overheating when you damage your radiator), something I've always wanted to see in this series, but otherwise the realism is excellent.I think most gamers can jump into Arcade Mode on beginner pick the F40, and win a race.

Content: I wish there were a few additional car models and that all of them were premium (you get used to the awesome cockpits quickly!).I think the problem is that GT5 has so many cars included that people get the illusion they should have every single car they can think of.It's so comprehensive that you actually are surprised when something isn't there (ahem, Porsche). In other words, it's easy to be unrealistic and hope for everything... that's how much content you have here. There are so many historic and amazing racing cars in this game that it seems unfair to feel this way.Upgrade parts and fine tuning settings are comprehensive and yet easy for anyone to fiddle with. There are many tracks in this game, though my favorite test track from GT4 is missing. Some of the weather and nighttime settings only work for some tracks, but when they do they are absolutely awesome. There are lots of things like photo album and setting up your personal area that just don't appeal to me personally.Online features are fully fleshed out, though, with very large fields of racers, chat, etc.

I think the game is so large that the menu system, for example, the GT World home's dozen+ things to choose from, seems daunting at first.Just remember this is a game many will play for hundreds of hours.Expect to find the menus a little daunting at first, but I'm already finding them very easy to get around after a few days.

I'm surprised by the track editor. It's easy to use, though you can't design each turn exactly as you'd like. But you'll never run out of tracks! The special events are practically entire games to themselves with a real diversity ranging from Nascar to Top Gear to WRC.

Fun Factor:I think a lot of people are going to complain about this.As gaming has become more and more popular as a form of entertainment, games have accomodated more players by being easy. I am not saying this is right or wrong: but understand this product is not an arcade game. You will have to have patience and practice to fully enjoy a more subtle experience. The fun comes from mastery.I think that's a lot of fun, but some people do not.The Kart racing, Drift, and to be honest, Nascar, present some cheaper thrills. You can also dial up the driving aids and have a very easy experience, but if you're looking for Blur or Need for Speed, this game just doesn't offer that experience.I do have one complaint: the game requires a substantial loading time, and the loading of new tracks took longer than expected the first time.Once it's loaded something the first time, it seems to save some of the content on the HDD, and it's much faster to load that thing in the future.I have a huge HDD, but people who have smaller ones should be aware this game will need eight GBs (or perhaps a bit more).

Value:I am stunned at just how much game is here.It is ridiculous. They could cut the content, tracks, and types of racing by half and you would still have two games worth much more than $60.I've only really scratched the surface, but I already can see this is going to be my favorite PS3 game.

My final thought on this: it's the comprehensive game for people who love cars.Old cars, new cars, fast cars, average cars. It's almost like am interactive museum experience for cars (not to mention the actual interactive museum feature). It's also a comprehensive way to race with depth.Setup, driving styles, etc. It's like a racing school in your living room. The quality has exceeded my expectations. This game will impress you, and you will have fun playing it if you have the patience to advance through the levels.
