Messiah Limited Edition Wireless SNES Controllers Super Nintendo Review

Messiah Limited Edition Wireless SNES Controllers Super Nintendo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have received my shipment of the Messiah Wireless SNES Controllers (from the website itself, if you are looking for some they sell them there since Amazon seems to be out, just type Messiah in Google and click on Messiah Entertainment, Inc.). For the price, I got a few cool little trinkets and things - nothing too mind blowing though. The Special Edition comes with a lunch box, a Messiah dog tag, a manual, and two controllers with receivers.

I have mixed feelings for the controller. For one definite plus, they are wireless, each with four channels to use for connection (in case you feel like getting four of them (you rich person you)). There is also a Turbo feature and a Slow feature, which basically speak for themselves if you've ever bought a third party controller before - Turbo makes (a) button(s) repeat itself over and over (you can just specify one button, a few, or all buttons on this controller), and slow basically pauses the game over and over, creating a "slow" effect.

These buttons (Turbo and Slow), along with Start and Select, are "touch sensitive". From my experience, you still need to give them just a little push, so they aren't REALLY touch sensitive, but they work as far as buttons go.

And L(eft) and R(ight) shoulder buttons are fine. No complains here. But who says I'm complaining? I haven't even started with the major complaint, because the rest of the controller is great...

With the minor exception of the "D-pad". Or, Direction Pad, if you aren't in the know. It's not much of a D-pad itself, it's taken more of the analog sticks we've known for today, like the XBox's S controller (indent for your thumb). Whats weird is that you can spin the nob on the controller as you please, but really does nothing. Why couldn't there be a traditional D-pad, as long as it didn't infringe on Nintendo's patent? Yobo did it. Other third party controllers do it for todays controllers... So why did they feel like adding it here?

It's not the exact same precision as the official SNES controller, but after a few minutes (or hours, depends on who you are) of playing with the D-knob, it doesn't seem so bad. It kind of grows on you... So there really isn't a complaint here, it's just adjusting to the thing is awkward with the first few times of play.

Me, I highly recommend this controller if you are still a SNES enthusiast, if you still dust off SNES carts and give them a go and hate wires, or you want a weird product to go with your weird FC Twin System (guilty as charged). If you don't like adapting to new things, if you can't stand third party controllers, if you are a super SNES l33t person, stay away from these. I love playing Super Metroid on my wide screen without people coming over and tripping over the cords. :)

I have been using the TL-WN861n for about a year in my Dell Latitude D400. The installation was a snap, taking me less than 15 minutes from start to operation. No problems. I have a DLINK DIR-655 N Xtreme Gigabit router at home and this device works well, extended my reach, increased signal strength and provides blazing speed. All great so far.

I am a road warrior and also use this laptop on the road. I have found that when traveling to hotels which mostly use 802.11b/g, I encounter frequent network drops. This comes with no warning - my system simply stops responding to network traffic. The signal strength shows consistently high signals, the IP address still shows and by all observation, the card seems to be properly associated with the network. However, it just stops working. The only ways to get it working again is to power down the card or change to a different hot spot and then return to the original hotspot. The problem is random and is experienced at most hotels that I visit. As such, I would imagine that there is a problem with the 802.11b/g section of this device.

I have found that TP-Link support is thin. Calling them in the past resulted in speaking to a guy who sounded as if he had just woken up -heavy Chinese accent and of little help.

UPDATE: I continued to have problems with this device dropping out of the network. Not just my network, but hotel networks all over the world where I travel. Calls and emails to the TP-Link support are essentially useless. These peopel read out of a songbook and have no escalation path. Here's a quote from the last email after I told him that his answers were useless that I had already been back and forth on the issue:

Sorry for nothing.

Many write positive, some negative. I can't ask all mycustomer to praise TP-link or me.

It is ok to write the truth.

Thank you for you notice.

If you have any further help about our productsplease let me know, or let tp-link support know.

Sorry for bringing you inconvenience.

This is a good little USB network adaptor and works as advertised.

Background: I have a Dell laptop with an internal network card. I travel a lot and use it in hotels and hot spots quite a bit. The signal I was getting on the internal card with its two internal antenna's was weaker then I would like and usually doesn't get a strong enough signal to maintain 54 Mbps speed. I was usually down around 11 Mbps in a hotel room. Sometimes I have had to move to a different room, move to a balcony, or a certain point in the room to get a signal at all. In one hotel room I checked signal right after checking in and I could only get a usable signal near the door holding the computer up near the ceiling. I had to walk around the hotel to find a group of rooms that I thought would work and then coordinate with he front desk on availability and change rooms.

I researched many options, reading reviews, etc. Most other options were more expensive or problematic, including modifying my computer to install an external antenna. I looked at USB cards with the mail plug that plug into the computer without using an extension, pcmcia cards with external antenna's, directional antenna's, etc. Most of the reviews I read were from kids "War Driving" but still shed some light on how well this card works.

What I got: I went with the Alpha because of good reviews I read, and the fact that I can remote locate it using an extension giving more options then one mounted to the computer. The unit looks pretty cheap being plastic. Nothing special. It came with the two antennas. I ordered the two extension cables. One is passive and one is active (active is required for longer extensions).

Functionality/Results: It works well. So far I have not been in a Hotel where I didn't get an 88% or better connection (signal strength) with 85 or 90% link quality or better, and more importantly a link with 54 Mbps speed. I get many more signals too, but that is not what I was looking for in most cases. I have tried it in a dozen or so hotels and played with outside signals a bit. There are a lot of them out there.

The ability to move the antenna 10 to 25 feet away could be useful to get it on a balcony, outside a window, get around a concrete wall, etc. but I haven't had to do that yet with the Alpha. Once in the Bahamas, using the computers internal card, I had to get out on a balcony with a 40 mph wind coming off the ocean that would knock over the laptop if I didn't hold on to it, to get a clear shot to the hotel main building where the router was located. I had to weather the salt spray and either had to hold the computer screen to keep it from swaying so I could see it or hold my wine glass to keep it from tipping over. I needed three hands and it was a tough decision as to which two things to hold. That is when I decided to order this card. I read about folks on sail boats running the Alpha up the mast and getting a signal 4 or 10 miles off shore and putting the unit in a zip-loc bag to keep it out of the elements.

If I had modified my computer for an external antenna, or gotten a pcmcia card with external antenna, I could have run coaxial cable to a remote antenna to get the same position benefits, but the signal losses are large that way and signal cuts in half with every few feet of coax. With this adapter the antenna is run right into the transmitter/receiver and there is no loss, however you still have the ability to remote locate it up high in a room, outside a window, on a balcony, etc. without the loss. You don't get the signal loss from a USB cable, although you do run out of power if run too far. 25 feet with the two supplied cables is plenty for me.

Power: The high power is meaningless and probably a lie. I think they are claiming equivalent radiated power with a good antenna to some poor antenna standard like the antenna's printed on a pcmcia adapter card circuit board or something. Anyway it is not really a 1000mW adapter, but it does work well. The allowable power output is somewhat complicated but is based on radiated power (the combined effect of the transmitter and antenna). Anyway a balance of output power, receiver sensitivity, and selectivity is what is important and this one does a good job. It gets quite warm too only having passive cooling (vents).

Antenna's: Like many folks have reported, the big antenna doesn't seem to work any better for me then the little one. Sometimes it will get a slightly stronger signal and more signals with it, but the link quality (signal to noise ratio) is worse. The little antenna has worked fine in all cases so far and just as well as the big one on comparison.

Software: The software installed easily for me with Windows XP and I have had no problems. The software is between OK to fairly nice. I can still enable my internal card and use it when the signal is strong and I don't want to carry the Alpha. I disable it when using the Alpha.

Works great. Hope it last a long time.

If you are looking for solutions for your home (or work) because of problems with range on your Wifi you might also try one of the homemade paper directional parabolic antenna's that you print off from the internet. They really work and also increase security if positioned properly by directing coverage to within your house and decreasing coverage outside. They work will with this unit too. Requires a router with external antenna(s). You can also put one on the antenna of the Alpha and beam signals between the router and the Alpha. Quite effective. You print out a template from the internet, cutout a couple pieces of paper, cover one with foil or aluminum tape, stick the parabolic template together to the flat sheet to form the shape, and position the unit on the antenna of your router. Just do a search on "DIY windsurfer parabolic WIFI antenna" as Amazon doesn't' allow links. Also watch one of the Vid's on it.

I do not have time to write a long review but I can tell you this Router works lot better than my previous D-Link and Link-sys, which kept disconnecting once a while somehow. But I do not have any problem with this unit. Signal is good, I have N, G and even B wireless devices and it works on all and all together; never had to reset it since I bought it.

I wanted to connect my Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ media player to the internet via my wifi.I had to try three USB devices to finally accomplish this: D-Link DWA-125 (about $22) , Blue Proton (about $6)and the Airlink 101 (about $15).Only the Airlink worked just by plugging it into the USB port; connectivity is excellent. The other two worked only with computers, and require installation of drivers. The Airlink also comes with a driver CD, but if your device does not run a user-accessible OS like windows or linux, the Airlink is best to try first.

This DSL Modem w/Wi-Fi has worked for over 3 years without a burp!I have used the wireless connection that I purchased with this modem on my desktop computer since day 1.In the beginning, I had the Modem hooked up to a 2nd desktop; but since I moved in 6 months ago, the Modem is not hooked up to anything except the phone line, and everything still works flawlessly.

I have also used laptops with this modem in addition to the wireless 2Wire brand wi-fi receiver.I had absolutely no problem connecting to my network using the easy to install 2Wire software.

This modem was provided as a package with SBC Yahoo when I started using it.I have moved out of their coverage area and it is working flawlessly with a different provider.

One last thing I must mention; The 2Wire FIREWALL is perfect! No one outside my networkhas ever was able to connect to it - not even next door neighbors. When I was in SBC territory I often connected to my neighbors DSL when SBC was down (I lived in a rural area with lots of trees = DSL down more frequently than in a city).

It has been the same since I have moved to a different area.My network is rock solid - no one else can connect - but I still have the advantage of being able to connect to at least 5 neighbors now wirelessly during the infrequent times that my DSL is down here in the city.

I've had many DSL and Broadband modems over the years (I'm a frequent mover) and after using the 2Wire brand, I'm completely spoiled!I will never use anything else!

I purchased this item because I live in the country, 800 feet from the main road.My FIL, who lives right on the road, was recently able to get hi speed internet but the cable company denied me stating it was too far a distance to run the cables.I recently purchased a laptop and was able to pick up a weak signal from my FIL's router so I bought this in hopes of boosting the signal. I immediately went from 1 bar to 3 and sometimes even 4.They are also selling this same adapter with a bigger antenna and I am thinking about trying that one out.I have used this with Vista and XP and it works great with both though I did have to download drivers for Vista off website but it was no big deal.I am a mom of 4 and no computer whiz and searched the internet for the best adapter and a decent price and was a little weary about this but it is working great so far.

I ordered two of these USB wireless adapters. The first installed on a Windows 7 32-bit system with good results.I wasn't able to install the second one on a Windows 7 64-bit system. It hung up during install and the only way I could get out was to cut power. After that, Windows would not start normally.I had to do a system recover to an earlier date before I could use the computer again. I went through this twice. The aborted installs left files on my machine that were difficult to remove. My advice: Don't forget to make a system restore point before trying to install one of these things. The one on the 32-bit system is working good at a low price so I don't feel too bad about the whole thing.

I bought this game a couple days ago, and after getting familiar with it, I can finally write a review.

Graphics - Let's face it, the ds isn't known for it's graphical quality, especially when it comes to 3D.But these graphics are great. They aren't as good as todays standard consoles, but I don't recall any N64 or Playstation game looking this good.Best out there right now for the DS so I give it a 5/5.Control - Control with the stylus takes a while to get used to, but once you get the hang of it it's a lot like using the mouse for a computer. If your left handed don't worry because they have a special setting made special for you guys.If you still can't get use to the stylus then you can use the buttons for aiming. 4.5/5Sound - If you've heard the music from the original metroid prime then you've heard the music to this game.Sometimes can be very intense to build up suspense of what's going to happen.4/5Replay Value - Just like the other metroid prime games, you have a log book.Playing through the first time, you can ignore this, but filling it up to 100% can be a challenge. You also have energy and missle expansions.Single Player mode is pretty short though.

As for the Online, this is an excellent feature. There's a battle mode and you can chose from any of the character's you have beaten. This can provide for hours of fun.You can also create friends and rivals who you can compete with in 7 different forms of battle. You can also text and voice chat with your friends which was unbelievably clear.I could understand every word when I tried this.(with Online) 5/5

Fun Quality - I personally got bored with the previous metroid prime games with the gamecube, but for some reason this one is different.Maybe it's the online maybe it's the two screens and touch screen, I don't know, but i think what it is is that it's more action orientated and I love action.5/5

Buy or Not - I haven't always liked shooter games like this, but I really enjoyed this one.I would reccomend to BUY.

Overall Score4.7 / 5 (9.4/10)

Just received my Spectec 11g card yesterday. I have a Verizon Q9c smartphone. Installed the software from the web based on other recommendations to avoid the software shipped. Plugged in the chip and bam! there was my network at home. Put in my WPA passwword and away I went surfing. Very cool and very fast. The coolest part is that I don't have to turn off the phone to swap out the chips. I just pop out the memory card and slide in the WIFI card and visa versa no problem.

We kinda bought this figuring it was "snake oil".Well, we were wrong...dead wrong! We plugged this into the Vista laptop, Vista found it and we were using it in less than 1 minute, and to our surprise it picked up our neighbor's router 1000 ft down the road and on the other side of his house! We used to get his signal intermittently on the laptop, but with this plugged in with the hi-gain antenna, we get 4 out of 5 bars! This is through tall, thick trees and a motor home!
When the first reviewer (I read)says it got her father in law's signal 1000 feet or yards down the road, she isn't lying!!!

I just put it on my Windows 7 desktop and it works just the same.I just plugged it in, and windows found it, installed drivers and it's fine.

I ALWAYS suggest going online for the latest drivers for any computer hardware, but this one seems to work fine off of Windows Vista and 7's proprietary drivers.
