I am writing just to inform people that this remote only works for newer PS2's: those with an IR receiver between the power button and the eject button. (I had to find this out the hard way, ordering this product only to discover that it was incompatible with the PS2 I had; I figured I should save other people from going through the hassle I did.)
As explained on the package of this remote, it does NOT work with PS2's that have model number SCPH-30001, SCPH-35001 GT, SCPH-30001 R, SCPH-39001, SCPH-39001/N, or SCPH-39010/N. To identify the model number of your system, refer to the label on the system rear or left side panel.

[*] I experienced some initial trouble using my PS3 controllers to play PS2 games, but have since found that they work for most games.So this USB adapter is NOT necessary to play all PS2 games on your PS3.

[*] This DOES enable use of your old PS2 analog controllers to play MOST PS3 games.However, any PS3 game requiring the Sixaxis functionality of the new PS3 controllers and some that require R2/L2 sensitivity will not function perfectly.Also, since PS2 controllers do NOT have the Playstation/Home button that PS3 controller's have, you cannot easily exit out of games to the PS3 menu screen as you can with PS3 controllers.

[*] This DOES enable use of your PS2 analog controllers to navigate the PS3 menu screens, PSN, internet browser, etc.

[*] This is NOT fully functional with your old PS2 Guitar Hero controller.It is partially functional, but that's not good enough for GH.

[*] This IS functional for using MOST PS2 accessories (eg, steering wheels, arcade sticks, DDR mats) on your PS3.But your device may not work 100% which is likely an issue with your device's compatibility with the PS3, not this adapter.

[*] You can order this directly from Eforcity, the manufacturer in CA, for a total of $6.25 through Amazon.Mine was packaged well and shipped very quickly.It arrived in just 2 days.

[*] A Playstation 3 Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller costs $50 & the 'old' Sixaxis cost ~$40-45.A PlayStation 2 Dualshock Controller Black only costs $20 + $6.25 for this adapter.Even a nice wireless PlayStation 2 Cordless Action Controller only costs $30.

I am very happy with the two eforcity adapters I purchased.They are small and simple, but they allow me to play old PS2 games on my new PS3 as well as use my old PS2 controllers with new PS3 games.

(More customer reviews)This version of the adapter is hit and miss. Theoretically it works but isn't compatible at times with controllers and certain driving wheels. DragonPlus came out with a version 2 of this same adapter and works beautifully. Since Sony has released firmware
2.7 that has disabled some of the ps2-ps3 controller adapters, Version 2 works great. I immediately tried some PS2 games in the PS3, and the DS2 worked as well as rumble. I also tested Battlefiled Bad Company and other PS3 games with rumble and the DS2 worked with rumble on PS3 games. I also have 3 steering wheels and those all worked with force feedback as well.

There is no PS button on this item, but the "analog" button on DS2's works the same as the PS button ( press once or hold function). There is also a trick to get to the XMB or to register some controllers by using Up and Select as the PS button.

For those wondering about input lag, Version 2 had no lag I could detect. Aiming in FPS was right on.

(More customer reviews)The fact is, although the shape was not modified from the original DualShock (Sony figured, "Why change a popular, perfect design?"), most of the innards are completely different. Also, 'Analog' for the DualShock2 not only describes the controller sticks, but also applies to all of the buttons. This means the buttons are pressure sensitive and actually have an effect on game play. This will especially show for games like GT3, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Final Fantasy X. (Example: The amount of pressure you use to press a button dictates the speed of you drawing your gun in MGS2.)You will NOT get the same effect by using a PSOne DualShock.
I have not had any bad luck with this controller, and I've owned as many as 3. This controller is far better than the controllers for Dreamcast or Nintendo 64. It is also VERY durable. I've slammed my personal controler into the ground (carpet lined cement) MANY times after frustrating licence tests in GT3, and the controller remains in perfect shape. This controller is far better than any third party fodder.
