Medal of Honor Collection Review

Medal of Honor Collection
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The classic war games of this vein (MOH) are updated for your enjoyment on the PS2!It's a shooting game for those who like historical accuracy (with some artstic license, of course) mixed in with some pretty intense gameplay.

In the Medal of Honor Collection, you have 3 games to play: Medal of Honor: Frontline, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, and Medal of Honor: European Assault. The first of the 3 games deals with the major battles of WWII, including the water landing at Normandy in June, 1944. The second game is strictly set in the Pacific Theatre, and opens with your character attempting to escape a damaged destroyer before it is sunk by Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, in December, 1941. The final game in the collection is made with a whole new MOH format, which includes an adrenaline feature so you can go nuts on the enemy without taking damage, floating ammo/heath kit icons (instead of the standard items-on-the-ground format from the previous games.

MOH Frontline is my favorite game so far.The D-Day assault mission is VERY intense. It remainds me of the scene from Saving Private Ryan! There is a recoil on the weapons when firing, and also when a bomb drops, the entire screen shakes. It makes it very difficult to get a good accuracy rating.

MOH Rising Sun is a great game!I have never played a shooter so throughly steeped in the Pacific Theatre as is this MOH title.

MOH European Assault is a good game too, yet I haven't played that one trough very far yet!

One element that successfully ties all 3 games together is, your character actually works cooperatively with other computer controlled allies that help you during the missions. This is especially true in MOH Risisng Sun, and MOH European Assault.A great series of games awaits you in this Collection!

Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday Expansion Pack Review

Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday Expansion Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a huge fan of Paradox Interactive. These guys make the perfect games for history geeks like me. Gloriously complex, very playable, with the smack of verisimilitude. Hours of pleasure..

I started war-gaming twenty-five years ago, when I was just a kid in grade school- the Old Avalon Hill era. Hexagon boards, dice, fat rulebooks and hundreds of cardboard unit chits. And far too few fellow geeks to play with. A.H. put out a strategic level European/Mediterranean theatre game called Third Reich. I loved that game. I played WWII out with my little brother, or by playing all factions myself, hundreds of times. Ah, the good old days..

But wait, no. The sepia tones fade to a harsh, merciless grey. I've played HoI2, and this new hyper charged "Doomsday" revision of that glorious game. And there is no comparison. This is Third Reich beatified and transfigured. To heck with the old days.

With HoI2 you can begin campaign play in 1936, 1938, 1939, 1941, or 1944. The diplomatic and military situation being as it was historically at each date. You can play any country in the world - any major power (Germany, U.K., U.S.A., U.S.S.R., France, Italy, Japan) or a lesser power such as Australia, S. Africa, Canada, Brazil, Turkey or Spain, etc. Or you can even play a minor country like Bhutan or Costa Rica - even though they have very little economic, scientific, diplomatic, political, or as a result, military power. Still, if you want to attempt world conquest with say Nicaragua, Switzerland, Tibet or Siam, you are free to.

There are also minor scenarios where you can play out Barbarossa, the Invasion of Poland, Japan in China, the Spanish Civil War, a hypothetical war between Argentina & Brazil, the Battle of the Coral Sea, the Ardennes offensive (Battle of the Bulge).. you get the idea. I'm solely a 1936 campaign game man, myself, though, so I can't speak to the quality of the scenarios.

In the original HoI2 campaigns all end in 1947. Which often cuts the game short while things are still very interesting (Hitler played a very stupid HoI2 game- I mean, taking on the U.S.S.R. and U.S.A. simultaneously? While the U.K. is still kicking? Don't you be so stupid. Things could've gone on so much longer.. 988 years longer, vielleicht?) So 1947 is too early an end date.

This new Doomsday expansion corrects that. The new end date is 1953 (the year of Stalin's death.) And a new "Doomsday" scenario is added, beginning in 1945 with Germany defeated.Europe is divided between the Comitern and Allies, and they're at war. Dr. Strangeglove is in the house, ya'll. Yeeehaw!

Armageddon aside, the glory of HoI2 Doomsday is that you can start in 1936, and play through 1953, and absolutely anything can happen. Early Cold War, or Axis world domination, whatever. I mean, you can do all sorts of interesting things (especially if you use the F12 cheatcode "freedom" to change the political conditions of your country more quickly than would otherwise be allowed - Germany can be made communist, the U.S. fascist or communist, the U.S.S.R. a democracy - and all international alliances and national leaders will change..)

The economic and technological aspects of this game are very good- the tech tree is pretty complex, and every country- even the little ones - has a bevy of historic industrial firms and technicians (e.g., Germany has I.G. Farben, Krupp, Siemens, Junkers, Porsche, Rheinmetal, Mauser and individuals such as Guderian, Udet, Goering, Von Braun, Heisenburg, Von Manstein, Raeder, etc. the U.S. has Ford, Raytheon, Oppenheimer, McDonnell Douglas, Nimitz, etc.) who are assigned different tech/doctrinal projects. You can choose to pursue certain lines of technology, and military doctrine and ignore others, try to research them earlier than they were historically, etc.

Economically, each country has an factory industrial base which determines how many units you can produce or support, and which must be fed resources. Resources are obtained by controlling their geographic sources, or through trade with countries who have surplus resources.

Militarily, this is a division level game. The units are assigned historical names and designations (1st Panzer Division, 101st Airborne, K.M.S. Bismarck, U.S.S. Lexington, etc.) You organize them into corps and armies, and fleets. Every unit has a historical commander whom you can reassign and promote, with his own unique skills (Patton, Rommel, Monty, Yamamoto- the whole gang's here.)

Politically and diplomatically you can pick your governmental cabinet. If you dislike your head of state, you can gradually over time manipulate the political & economic climate of your society so that he is replaced. (or you can use the cheat code I mentioned to do it instantaneously.) The U.S., for example, has its historic elections, and F.D.R. can be defeated.. how about a Landon or Wilkie administration?

The axes of your political and economic culture that you can manipulate over time are these: Right/Left, Democratic/Authoritarian, Open/Closed Society, Free Market/Centrally Planned Economy, Standing/Drafted Army, Hawk/Dove, Interventionist/Isolationist. All choices here effect your game play.

One other major change in Doomsday from the original is that they've added an espionage tab to your menu.. you send spies to check out your enemies and neighbors, and get partial and less than fully accurate information instead of HoI2's omniscient all army/navy/air force comparison charts. More realistic, methinks. You also get an idea of what they are researching, which is a nice improvement. Your spies can attempt other missions (assassinate leaders, sabotage projects, foment partisan revolt, etc.) Overall, an improvement, I think.

The A1 is solid, and will usually throw up a challenge. The program is pretty stable, and Paradox is very good about patches and support. Check out Paradox's web forum [..]

In sum: the game is a excellent one. If you play a major power, and stick to the historical script, the war will quite often fall out more or less as things actually did. But what's the fun of that? You could, instead, say, skip Pearl Harbor and take and send the Japanese Imperial Army into Russia instead of China. Or, you could play the U.S. and realize her manifest destiny by conquering all the Americas.. Or you could truly challenge yourself and attempt wide conquest with a middling power such as Turkey, Spain, Nationalist China, Brazil, or Canada.. or try to prosper with even a much smaller power such as Ireland, or a Latin American country like Guatemala. Be creative.

Five plus stars. Buy this game if it sounds at all interesting to you.

Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday is an intriguing real-time strategy game for the PC that begs some interesting "what if" questions related to World War II. Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday includes all the campaigns from the original Hearts of Iron II that take place in 1936, 1939, 1941, and 1944, as well as a new mission that continues the battle in 1953. The world of Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday is both familiar and strange, with events that often come to drastically different conclusions than they did historically.

Events often come to drastically different conclusions than they did historically. View larger.

This game is reminiscent of the classic WWII board game, Axis and Allies. View larger. This version of Hearts of Iron II also includes updates and expansions requested by gamers, with technology, units, and abilities being added for each side to make for a balanced gameplay. What is also intriguing is the ability to resolve the entire conflict through diplomatic means rather than by force -- a trait that sets this game apart from most WWII strategy games. Players can trade weapons and secrets with allies to strengthen themselves as well as their alliances.
This game is reminiscent of the classic WWII board game, Axis and Allies, but has the additional advantages of the computer platform -- more complexity, and real-time gameplay -- that keeps the action non-stop. One particularly unique aspect of Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday is your ability to play from more than just the traditional "big boys", such as the US, UK, Russia, Italy, Japan and Germany; in fact, you can play as any one of 175 countries. You also have the option of which year to start and what specific missions to try, which is especially important as the only way out, other than by winning, is by surrendering.
It's also important to choose which technological path to take, rather than simply assigning certain strengths based on your choice of side or nation. Technology is broken down into different categories, such as Air Doctrine, Land Doctrine, Armor and Naval units, as well as the classic and sometimes all-important Secret Weapon programs. In order to make technological progress, you'll need to assign teams to work on specific projects, many of them based on real historical programs. Each team has different sets of skills that allow them to work on different projects, while each project focuses on a different field. The expanded technological tree in Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday even allows you to develop nuclear weapons. Another important factor in this game is diplomacy, in which your choice of allies can say as much about you as who your foes are. The all new diplomatic options and intelligence system lets you steal and sabotage equipment, control mass media, start riots, and even assassinate ministers and leaders.

MATRIX Uncommon Valor: Campaign for the South Pacific Review

MATRIX Uncommon Valor: Campaign for the South Pacific
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this as Christmas present. I like cardboard counters/mapboard wargames, and this game is a computer version of a mapboard wargame, similar in concept to Panzer General series.
It features south pacific area (from Rabaul to Noumea, including east Australia bases), with allied coastwatchers and beaches (that can be owned by the players). You can assemble/dissassemble TFs, assign new commanders to TFs, command every historical plane squadron in different types of missions (naval search, recon of specific objective, ground or naval attack, training...) and also command battalions of ground forces and base units to attack the enemy (or improve your facilities).
Ships can be ordered different kind of missions, like combat surface, naval bombardment of bases, mining missions...and, even though you can leave the TF commander free (the computer IA) to choose when to sail for the base to resupply for fuel or supplies...each base keeps track of the supplies and fuel, as well as of each units' experience, fatigue and morale.
The worst of the game is the graphics and sound, graphics are just "enough" good, and sounds are really bad. Also, another point against the game is that, with the option "combat animation" set on, each turn is really slow, and well, the combat animations themselves are just a few "flashes" to indicate gun firing, and a few graphics for ships' fires, or flak...they're something you might want to look at the first time, then set them off for faster play.
My advice : if you like&enjoy mapboard wargames (like Flat Top) you'll like this one, or if you like games like Panzer General (turn based strategy games)you might as well like this one, even though its slower game pace related to Panzer General 2 or 3D. Otherwise, if you're looking for something like command and conquer, look elsewhere, this one's not for you. I rated it 4 stars because i love mapboard wargames and this one is much similar, otherwise, compared to other games (like Total War Medieval, or similar), it would rate much less...

Medal of Honor Frontline Review

Medal of Honor Frontline
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Medal of Honor Frontline lands you in the role of Lt. James Patterson.Your missions will take you from the beaches of Normandy to hijacking a Ho-IX jet plane. You will have eighteen different weapons to help you along the way.The level designs are very good and each level has a different feel to it.The atmosphere and wide variety of missions is what really pulled me into this game.
The graphics most of the time look spectacular.Unfortunately a few times it did get choppy. The controls are completely customizable. There are several default choices or you can program each button individually. The sound effects and score are excellent and in Dolby Digital. To bad its not 5.1 though.
From the opening level I was hooked on this game.I could not stop playing.I found only two problems with this game. The first is that you cannot adjust the sensitivity of the analog controls. This isn't a major thing but it did take awhile to get used to.The second is that there are no multiplayer options. The game is not really that long and you should be able to go through it in a couple days easily. But the challenge is to get all the medals and that should keep you busy for a while.I think this is one of the top ten games available on PS2.All fans of first person shooters should pick this one up.

Product Description:
Medal of Honor: Frontline marks the debut of the Medal of Honor franchise on the PlayStation2. In Frontline, you go behind enemy lines as Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson. Your missions include the D-day assault on Omaha Beach, tracking your Nazi nemesis aboard a speeding armored train, the epic battle for control of the Nijmegen Bridge, a strategic choke point in the Allied drive into the heart of Nazi Germany, and a top-secret, high-risk mission to steal the Ho IX flying wing. The Ho IX is an experimental Nazi jetfighter so powerful it could turn the tide of World War II.
There are 20 levels of gameplay spread across six major missions, all based on real World War II events and all adding up to one complete and uninterrupted story line. Fully realized and highly-detailed 3-D environments include six times the number of nonplayer character animations as in the original Medal of Honor. The game includes detailed German, British, and American troops, as well as Dutch civilians, all with full facial expressions and lip synch. More than 20 authentic WWII weapons include the Colt .45, Springfield sniper rifle, Panzerschreck rocket launcher, MG42 mounted machine gun, and the Browning automatic rifle. Enemy vehicles include panzer and tiger tanks, trucks, motorcycles with sidecars, and armored railway scout cars. There are also player-driven motorized railcars, trains, and mine carts.
An improved enemy AI requires you to consistently vary your attack strategy as the situation dictates. Go it alone to accomplish your mission with the utmost stealth or work as part of a highly trained military unit to wreak havoc on the enemy. The game offers intense noncombat scenarios as well, such as a disguised, weaponless infiltration of an officer's pub brimming with Gestapo to make contact with a Dutch Resistance operative. Medal of Honor: Frontline includes more than 70 minutes of original orchestral music from composer Michael Giacchino, and the game as a whole features eight times more audio than the original Medal of Honor.

Call of Duty Finest Hour Review

Call of Duty Finest Hour
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After being totaly immersed in Call of Duty and United Offensive on the PC I knew from Finest Hour's anouncment that I had to have it. First let me tell you that this is a completley new game. It's not a PC port but it does manage to incorporate familiar gameplay and levels into this jaw droping experience. In the first level you play as Alexander Solkovo, who is throw into the battle of Stalingrad with only a handful of ammo. Like the PC game, you eventualy get a rifle to use that ammo but in the begining of the level you have all that you can do to follow your sargent up the hill into machine gun fire. I would like to compare this to the D-Day scene in Medal of Honor Frontline, but that just wouldn't be fair. This game crushes Frontline and although I'll still play Frontline (an incredibly awesome game)This is what is owning my PS2 right now. After Stalingrad you will shift through roles, playing as a Russia female sniper, a Russian tank commander, a British PPA commando, a sargent with the Big Red 1, and a tank sargent in Belgium. The whole storyline is very cool and Finest Hour truely does capture the gritty cinimatic feel of WWII that most games don't. Some might need to remember that this game isn't trying to recreate the feel of the PC game. It's trying to recreate the feel of war and although I've never been in war, I'd say this game does a darn good job. Some people complain the controls are hard to get use to but I'm guessing thats because they are a bunch of hardcore PC gamers (nothing wrong with that) who aren't as good at adapting to a controller layout. Now like I said before, I own Frontline and many other FPS for PS2 and I caught on to these controls in no time. In fact, this game might have some of the best First Person Shooting controls I've ever used (well, next to Halo) With controls aside, lets move on to graphics. Thats always a fun part. They are simply amazing! Each character has around 1500 different animations thay can perform and trust me, they do perform. Really, graphics aren't an issue. The framerate in the game will make FPS fans happy. You can be mowing down twenty enemies and the frame rate doesn't drop at all. Which brings me to my next point. The arsenal rocks. It is smaller than the PC games but now you can run around firing MG42s and 30cal. machine guns without having to deploy them. This is truely awesome. But here is what Finest Hour is missing out on, the M1 carbine, the STG 44, a couple others and strangley, pistols aren't any where to be had. So when your two big guns run out, you must rely on melee attacks. The game, oddly enough, works well without pistols. Only after finishing the game did I realize, "Hey, I never used a pistol." but then I said "Hey, I never needed one!" Now, how about gameplay. The game has wide variety of ways to accomplish each mission (something Rising Sun promised but kind of failed with) And really, almost every time you play is different. With a mixture of funny and down right awesome cheat codes this game will keep you entertained for a long time. But do understand the replay value of this game doesn't relay on the cheats but they are great. What more can I say when it comes to performance and presentation... THIS GAME ROCKS!

Now, the not so good. What game doesn't have glitches? If some one can tell me one, their lying! So don't fear when I tell you this game has some minor glitches. Their nothing most FPS don't have (floating guns) But don't worry, more than likely you won't even notice it. The few glitches their are take place in the really big battles, so a couple of floating guns shouldn't bother you or even catch your eye. Another thing is that the British campaign seems a bit short lived but it is packed with action and the jeep chase more than compensates for a shorter campaign. Also a little more detail could have been paid to bullet holes in the walls. They aren't that good looking but like the floating guns, you probaly won't care. Also, Where is the multiplayer? Sure, you can go online with this game but what about split screen four player. Hopefully they will put it in the next game.

How about a quick recap.

Pros:
Great Graphics
Wonderful musical score
Intense gameplay that doesn't drop a frame
Lots of replay value

Cons:
A couple of tiny glitches that don't affect gameplay at all
The British Campaign is shorter than the others
No multiplayer with out online connection

So all in all Activision and Spark have done a wonderful job on Finest Hour and this in one game any FPS fan or World War II buff should not be without!

Medal of Honor Allied Assault War Chest Review

Medal of Honor Allied Assault War Chest
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought all 3 games as they came out, but if you haven't even gotten one yet, I reccommend you pick this up, especially if you love FPS games.

Allied Assault is a terrific single player and multiplayer game. The single player mission is pretty long with great graphics, sound, and some really awesome scenery. The sound of wind blowing, snow falling, dogs barking in the distance, and, well, everything is great about the game. the on-line side has many different modes of play (especially mods) and is exremely fun. It is still one of the top 5 games played on-line.

Spearhead gives you more maps and skins, and a very good though short single player mission.

Breakthrough is more of the same: Very good (but short) single player mission, more skins, more weapons, and more maps. There is also a very cool (at least i liked it) game mode call liberation where you get put in jail when you die and your remaining teammates try to free you until everyone from one team is dead.

All in all, you can't beat this for the price they are charging. An awesome deal.

Panzer Commander Review

Panzer Commander
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Panzer Commander, the WWII tank simulation, is somewhat underrated within the software game genre. There are a few glitches (like AI that is randomly a bit slow) but they are more or less cleared up with the availablepatches. The graphics are not on par with Panzer Elite, but the realism ofthe game; from the way your tank bounces across terrain or your gunner getsKIA'd after a direct hit, makes up for it. Where it lacks in technicalprowess, the game makes up for it with spirit and story line. This is good, dramatic, challenging game play!
The game offers several modes of play.In campaign mode, you'll find that at the harder levels you'll struggle tokeep your tank platoon alive while you complete your mission objectives. Each scenario follows a historically accurate order of battle. As the warprogresses, you'll be offered tank upgrades to deal with theever-increasing technological advancements of your enemy. Most notable ofthe German campaigns are the Eastern Front scenarios. SSI did a good job ofcreating an accurate feel of warfare in Russia. Your heart will pound inanticipation as you sneak your Panzer around shelled out buildings inLeningrad, "hunting" for Russian T34's and machine gun nests. Ifyou're UNLUCKY, your gunner might spot a mighty "Iosef Stalin"tank instead. Then you'll have to get a bit too close for comfort and hopethat you can mange a flank shot. Meanwhile, the clock is ticking, you'vegot to breach the Russian defenses and secure the distant bridgehead foradvancing German infantry.Playing for the Russian side, you can almostsmell the desperation of your fellow tankers as you struggle to stop thefurious onslaught of the elite "Grossdeutschland" or SSdivisions. You'll curse the Luftwaffe and the German artillery as shellsand bombs rain down all around you. Terrain will become your best friend.Keep your T34 "hull down" and wait for an unsuspecting Panzer to expose hisunderside as he rushes up and over a nearby hill. As the war enters it'slater stages, you'll experience the rush of expelling the German invadersfrom your country and pushing them towards their own borders. The huntersbecome the hunted. Just watch out for those 88's! The game also offers asingle scenario mode. This will give you the chance to jump right into theaction. Campaign mode is nice though as it gives the game a sense ofcontinuity. You can play additional campaigns and single scenarios for theBritish and Americans as well. I found that the German and Russiancampaigns were, however, the most challenging and exhilarating.Artilleryand air support is present although you do not have control. The game alsooffers up a scenario editor so you can design your own scenarios. The gamecan also be played online. I'm hoping at some point SSI will plan a PanzerCommander "2".
All in all, SSI designed a solid game that offers decentgraphics and challenging artificial intelligence. The game is so cheap now;you don't have a reason not to buy it either. If I had to compare toanother game as far as graphics and realism, I would have to sayMicrosoft's Combat Flight Simulator is a good parallel. Now go out and getthis game!

In Panzer Commander, the players can play selected missions or participate in one of six campaigns, each of which consists of a series of linked missions, the outcome of which will determine the course of the campaign. Players can play on either side and are given a selection of Axis and Allied tanks. Successful players are given command of a platoon of tanks. In Panzer General 2, players fight on the Living Battlefield. Featuring the heightened realism of hand-rendered maps--30 battlefields that are faithful to the real ones of WWII--the Living Battlefield also showcases detailed combat units. Dai Senryaku Exceed 7: Modern Military Tactics Review

Dai Senryaku Exceed 7: Modern Military Tactics
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know that the title of this review is a bit grandiose but it's true. I'm a strategy game fanatic and I play all of them including Japanese titles so I know of what I speak. In Dai Senryaku VII Exceed's case we've got a very satisfying game all-in-all. Let's start with a description of what you'll get in the box.

Dai Senryaku VII Exceed is a modern era military, turn-based strategy game played on a hexagonal grid of varying terrain. A collection of units--referred to as an Army--from each country participating in the battle are arranged on this grid in a strategic manner. Each unit has strengths and weaknesses particular to its type. Utilizing the strengths of your army while exploiting weaknesses in the enemy until you satisfy victory conditions is the core of the gameplay in Daisenryaku VII. In this case think "Chess" only on a grand scale with modern day military hardware. Players of Advance Wars for the Gameboy Advance and DS will be at home here.

Each country participating in a battle takes its turn by moving and taking action with some, all, or none of its units. Actions in Daisenryaku consist of resupply, moving, attacking, bombarding facilities, combining units, producing and placing units, loading units onto transports, and capturing facilities.

The following countries are playable: Japan, America, Russia, Germany, England, France, Israel, and China.

The following terrain elements combine to make Daisenryaku Exceed's maps: Capital, City, Airport, Port, Factory, Refinery, Bridge, Plain, Desert, Wasteland, Wetland, Grove, Forest, Hill, Mountain, Peaks, Lake, Shallows, Sea, Deep Sea, Snowfield, Snowy Grove, Snowy Forest, Snowy Hill, and Snowy Peaks.

The game contains over 400 units across the nations listed. Each hex can contain multiple units at different heights from sub to upper atmosphere. This adds a tremendous amount of depth to the game and prevents fronts from remaining stationary for too long (in most games, anyway).

There are 25 Mission battles, and over 20 Campaign battles as well as over 100 Free Play maps. The game has a complete Map Editor that allows you to create your own map or modify any of the game's maps. In addition, any Free Play battle can be fully customized with starting funds, alliances, participating countries, and more.

New features over the XBox version are: bombardment of facilities, engineer units to repair damaged facilities, air-intercept of naval units, and screen hiding during change of multiplayer turns. There are only three new units over the XBox version however the stats of some units have been modified slightly to improve game balance. There are operators in the game that provide dialog during a player's turn however they add nothing to the gameplay.

The Campaign Mode allows you to save units from one battle to the next. This unit persistence adds depth as unit experience counts for a lot in Dai Senryaku VII. The Campaign maps are some of the best we've seen in Dai Senryaku and are great fun to play in Free Play Mode as well.

The game is not without faults, it is complex and there is no way to display weapon ranges on the map so you'll need to count hexes. There's no "next/previous" unit selection so you'll need to depend on a unit list or the map for selecting units. The game is very time consuming and one battle can last many hours however there is a 99 turn limit so battles will not go on forever. The graphics are simple but this really works in the game's favor as navigating the map is made much quicker. The music is repetitive but can be turned off. Battle animations are simple but can also be disabled.

All in all, if you're not afraid to sink your teeth into a rich and rewarding strategy game experience then Dai Senryaku will not disappoint.

SOCOM II U.S. Navy Seals Review

SOCOM II U.S. Navy Seals
Average Reviews:

So i put socom I away about 4 months ago- got tired of the cheating, the lagging, the booting.Even still i ran out to buy Socom II- and it was worth the wait.
I jumped on immediatly to online play- never liked the one player game.
Let me just tell you something- the graphics on this game blow away the first- they are insane! There are more new guns too.Which rock. The RPG's for the terrorists make the game that much better. Now your ducking from RPG blasts!
The levels- they are even more insane!Im not to sure about all the names- but here is a breakdown of some of the levels:
First off, all the old favorites are back- with some minor to major improvments.
Blood Lake
Pretty much the same except the graphics are way better and their are turrets now.
Desert Glory
Is back with better graphics and now you can blow up the wall where the terroists are.
Frostfire
is the same- except now all the tunnels connect- cool!
Abanodoned.
This level is messed up now! Its in total darkness!Holy cow this one is fun!
Night Stalker
is now in the day- which has mixed reviews
Rat's Nest
is pretty much the same- but darker.
Death Trap- pretty much the same
OK- now to the new levels.Let me just tell you- these new levels just rock! Some of the names i dont remember or might screw up but here we go:
Requiem
Right off the bat, requiem shows you how awesome Socom II is.The graphics on this level are so tight its incredible. And the level is HUGE.This one is a lot of peoples favorite level right now.Imagine Blizzard in a big town.Did i mention it was in the snow?
Sand Storm
Wow.Is all i have to say about this level.Great fun.Seals try to penetrate the Terroists base- must breach the wall, and blow up their building- but watch out for the air strikes best part of the game!
Shadow Falls
This one shows the imagination of the creators.A huge swamp level in complete darkness. And i mean darkness. The level is so messed up its cool to play- but very hard.
Fox Hunt
Probably my favorite new level. Its an escort level- but takes place in a huge field with grass up to your stomach. One side has a river bed, the other a mountain. You try leading hostages through this without getting em killed! The best is lying in the high grass and picking people off with your M4A1SD.
Crossroads
I beleive thats what it calls- another favorite.Takes place in a town, its a demolition level. Grab the bomb and head for the terroists. The level is huge with many hiding places and houses/stores/restaurants to sneak around in- plus roofs and awnings.
There's another town one- Vigalence- but it has to big the biggest map.Has a weird french/dutch feel to it- but the map is great.
Fish Hook
Fun little level- not that big of a deal.
And theres more and more- but i havent gotten to em all yet.
This game rocks- if you like the first one- get this one- you wont be disappointed...

Call Of Duty: Roads To Victory Review

Call Of Duty: Roads To Victory
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Call of Duty: Roads to Victory didn't get the love in reviews when it came out but I bought this game because of the past games in this series. Roads to Victory translates pretty well on the PSP and is a lot of fun to play. The game does provide a decent challange in two campaigns. American and British and it does get hard in some palces where you will do a couple times over.

The graphics are better then what we saw in Medal of Honor: Heroes and is so much clearer and easier to see where everything is. As for the gameplay, it pretty much keeps the formula from the console versions which is what makes the game work. The sound is okay not great but it is on the PSP after all and it does what it can to be as authentic as possible.

The replay value is great because you can unlock medals as we as other cool stuff depending on how well you did on each mission. The only thing I got to unlock was a wallpaper that I use on my PSP.

All in all, Call of Duty: Roads to Victory is a fun and engaging game that will bring you enjoyment for hours and will make the time fly like that.

I hope this is the first of many Call of Duty games for the PSP.

If you like fun war games and are tired of fighting the Germans all the time this game is great.I think most people forget there was just as much if not more fighting in the Pacific.Do not listen to all those game geeks the graphics are great for PS2.The best part is it is accurate in its history. It is also rated Teen which means kids can play it not just big kids if you know what I mean.I would like to see the game companies allow parents to turn the language off on some of these Mature games. This is a great Christmas gift to get kids who are 10 and above.Have fun.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Review

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Average Reviews:

COD4 is truly one of the best first person shooter games. You can play the story mode which takes you through an entire war, with a detailed and intriguing story, and has many different styles of play. Some stages will require straight gun fights, while others will require you to be stealth and snipe your enemies from afar.

The best thing about this game is the Multiplayer function. This is such a great feature as it extends the play value of the game.In most games, once you beat the story mode, there is hardly any reason to play again.however, in multiplayer mode, you will be playing with other gamers around the world online, for free, and get to eliminate each other.Multiplayer mode has many different modes to choose from such as "capture the flag", or "free for all" but the main objectives are all the same. eliminate your opponents!

If you need more detailed footage of the game, just youtube it and see how the game play is in action.

Killzone Review

Killzone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Yeah, sometimes the AI is stupid and sometimes the game doesn't move as fast as some people would like. But to me, KILLZONE is FPS (first person shooter) GOLD. It reminds me of the first TENCHU game. People said it was rough and unpolished, but it turned out to be one of the most amazing gameplay experiences I've ever had. The TENCHU series went downhill from there with analog controls and never lived up to the original. So don't wait for the second KILLZONE hoping there will be big improvements. You may be missing out. Don't listen to professional or jaded Amazon critics. People are just too picky. There are too many game geeks who don't like certain games because they don't live up to the expectations of some other game. Be fair. I don't care if KILLZONE is a HALO killer. IT'S NOT. And I don't care if this game pushes the PS2 to the limits of the hardware. IT DOES. To me, it's all about the gameplay. And I haven't been this immersed in a FPS since playing MEDAL OF HONOR FRONTLINE. THIS GAME SMOKES AND IT LOOKS HEAVY METAL PSYCHO!! BUT BE PREPARED TO DIE A FEW TIMES.

I still play FRONTLINE so it took me a little time to get a handle on the controls. All movement for KILLZONE, like RED FACTION, is done via both analog sticks including side-to-side movement, which is actually more intuitive than the shoulder buttons utilized by FRONTLINE. After some practice with the controls all hell broke loose and those Helghast troops were dropping like flies. Occasionally I throw a grenade when I mean to sidestep enemy fire. Oops. One of the BEST features is the SENSITIVITY SETTING for X and Y axis, or up-and-down and side-to-side movement, which can be adjusted ingame in the ADVANCED SETTINGS during PAUSE. When I first started playing I had to set the SENSITIVITY very low, but as my learning curve improved I continued to raise the SENSITIVITY during gameplay. VERY NICE. ADVANCED SETTINGS are not in the MAIN MENU and are not fully explained in the MANUAL. For example: I turned ON the AUTO-CENTER feature in the ADVANCED SETTINGS and I assumed it was for auto-targeting. If it is, it doesn't work as I didn't notice any difference when it was turned OFF. Maybe another reviewer can enlighten me about this feature.

Some complained about the reloading and grenade tossing animations being too slow and wrong for the game. It's realistic and part of the strategy. And it looks awesome. There's even a counter on grenades for when you're cooking one up. The AUTO-RELOAD feature can be turned OFF and reloading should be done while you are running or in a defilade position. And, if you take a lot of enemy fire your HEALTH BAR respawns after time.

Some complained about the SNIPER RIFLE being too hard to aim. Again, it's realistic and requires a steady hand. Don't forget, like I did, to use the upward directional button after pressing R3 to FULLY ZOOM in on your target. It makes it much easier to get that KILLSHOT. Some of the STANDARD weapons also have a ZOOM feature with a press of the R3 button. It can be a little disorienting switching between ZOOM and NORMAL VIEW, but once you get used to it, it's a welcome feature.

SOME SINGLE PLAYERS MAY WORRY about the ONLINE feature eating up a big portion of the gameplay. NEVER FEAR. KILLZONE GIVES YOU A LOT OF BANG FOR YOUR BUCK. The single player CAMPAIGN contains 11 HUGE levels that you can revisit at anytime after completion. (However, you'll lose your game in progress on a level if you go back.) The multiplayer BATTLEFIELDS contain 6 TEAM ARENAS that can be played ONLINE or OFFLINE, alone or with a friend. If you don't have a friend to play with or you have a friend who spends every waking hour playing and continually frags your sorry behind, every ARENA can be adjusted and played solo with AI bots, spawning, time limits, and more, depending on your skill level. You can also play as ISA goodguys or HELGHAN badboys. Nice, because the different factions use different weapons. So, you can pick-up, sample, and use them all. Even if you don't play ONLINE. (However, you can't play as Helghast in the CAMPAIGN mode.) PERFECT FOR THE CASUAL OR HARDCORE GAMER. Perfect for me, because I'm an older gamer and most of my friends are married with children and don't play video games. Suckers!! THANKS, GUERRILLA. I WAS WORRIED THERE FOR A MINUTE. GROWN MEN SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THIS MUCH FUN. (One of my older friends came by to check out the game and we ended up playing for 6 straight hours.)

THE GRAPHICS ARE AMAZING. While answering a phone call, after just starting this game, I was watching the DEMOS on the MAIN MENU (I never pause my 41" SONY XBR TV ingame for long periods of time for fear of phosphor burn on my tube), and sat there slack-jawed. The graphics almost looked CELL-SHADED. INCREDIBLE. LIKE A HEAVY METAL OR ANIME CARTOON.

Also includes a WIDESCREEN SETTING, DTS PRO LOGIC, and full CONTROLLER CUSTOMIZATION. SWEET.

MOST PARENTS DON'T CARE, BUT HERE'S A WARNING: KILLZONE IS LOADED WITH FOUL LANGUAGE, ALTHOUGH THE VIOLENCE IS NOT GRAPHIC. THE BLOOD IS VERY SUBDUED. NO EXPLODING HEADS OR DISMEMBERED LIMBS. SO ACT ACCORDINGLY. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO LIKE THAT SORT OF THING: BUMMER. MAYBE NEXT TIME.

IF YOU LOVE FPS's, THIS IS A MUST HAVE. I DON'T HAVE BROADBAND, SO BE SURE AND READ OTHER REVIEWS FOR ONLINE PLAY. KILLZONE WILL MAKE A GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT FOR THAT HARD-TO-BUY-FOR KILLER ON YOUR LIST. ENJOY.

Hearts of Iron Platinum Review

Hearts of Iron Platinum
Average Reviews:

As listed on the Amazon page, this game is available for a really low price...it's definitely worth it.

You always hear with these strategy games that it's 'infinitely replayable.'I don't suppose that's true about most of them, and it's certainly not true about this one, but you can get a lot of different games out of this one scenario, and if you have an interest in wargaming, or WW2, or both, then you're likely to enjoy HOI because you can play the scenario from so many different perspectives.Want to play historically as Germany, the USA, or the Soviet Union?Go for it.Want to drive the USA into the Communist brotherhood, play as a pacifist USSR, or be a Japan who DOWs on the USA in 1936?You can do that, too, more or less.

It does all get a little old after a while, maybe because despite the plethora of different routes the game can take some things always happen - there's always a great war, for instance, Germany, the Allies, and the Soviet Union never completely abstain from conflict. It would be pretty dull if they did, I suppose, but I just mean to report that some things always occur, or almost always do, and it can make things a little repetitive.

I'm no hardcore wargamer, but I have heard complaints about the combat format, as well.I don't think it's realistic, not close, but it's absurd either.Sure some of the rules about engagement (like, no more than 24 defenders whereas you can attack with 100+) and the reliance on a province-based movement scheme could've been designed better. And the game is arguably too easy, the only way the AI can match an experience player is through all sorts of cheats (of course, there are few strategy games about which that could not be said). And there's limited multiplayer capacity, at best.

But these are minor complaints. The game is certainly enjoyable, and you'll get waaaaay too many hours of zoned out fun immersed in it.
