Earthworm Jim Special Edition Review

Earthworm Jim Special Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been a fan of Earthworm Jim for years now. Through out my child-hood this game dogged me to my frustration; anybody whose played knows this is a difficult game even set on easy. But, at age nineteen I bought and played again and again until I was able to beat it, having finally mastered the nasty Tube Race level. I played it so much I eventually got good enough to beat it on hard and die only twice.

Now, being able to play Earthworm Jim in it's entirty I can say this Sega CD classic just plain rocks!
Just about everything that was great about the SNES version has been made better. The levels are longer, there are two bonus levels, one exclusively on the genesis and another one exclusive to the CD and the music has also been re-tooled to sound better. Jim even has a new weapon, a homing rocket, that is a blast to use! Jim's voice even sounds white-trashier, with on an occasional butt-hole suffer kind of accent.

There are, however, a couple of things lacking about the Sega CD version. Sometimes certain sounds or sound effects actually sound worse on this version than they did on the SNES version, and some funny sound effects are also lacking. Professor Monkey-for-a-Head seems to be missing his zany laugh whenever you shoot him, and Peter Puppy's adorable puppy squeal when you whip him is also absent. They did, however put in a slurping sound for when Evil The Cat cleans himself (go figure). The worst of all is the final fight with Queen Slug-for-a-butt. Her screams sound like a rooster being tortured and after a while it gets quite annoying as you just want her to die and shut up.

The music in What the Heck? and Andy Asteroids sounds much improved but sometimes I preferred the SNES music to the Sega CD in some levels, such as Level 5 and Snot a Problem.
The bonus levels, Big Bruty and Intesinal Distress are quite apart from the other levels in being funny and are more creepy than anything.

New Junk City: The improved music is pretty groovy! but the additional section were Jim must brave the dump suitless as a mere worm might give you some trouble.

Andy Asteroids: Much improved banjo-get-away music! There seem to be asteroids and they can be quite difficult to dodge. Prepare to lose to the pot-bellied Psy-Crow more often.

What the Heck?: Best improvment on the music! The level lay out is slightly different and you get your taste of plenty of useful homming missles!

Big Bruty: Very creepy level. Creepy music that sounds more like ambience for a horror movie, giant mosquitos and, of coure, big bruty, a dumb dinosaur that trys to swallow you. Big Bruty sounds like a demented Hyena when he charges you.

Down the Tubes/Tube Race: Not much different here accept for a wavy water effect throughout the level and the music has been changed from the New Junk City theme to the Level 5 theme. Navigating in the submarine feels a little more difficult...

Snot a Problem: Pretty much the same only the music doesn't sound as good as it did on the SNES version.

Level 5: This level is harder than before and features less techno-y sounding music.

For Pete's Sake!: Meteor showers! There's severl more now than just the one! This can be quite difficult.

Intesintal Distress: Very creepy. Like something from a Nine Inch Nails music video.

ButtVille: The last and hardest level of the game. If you beat it on only easy mode you don't get to see the ending. Instead you get a long, butt funny, excuse me, but funny speach about earthworms.

Overall the Sega CD version is a little harder so it's the perfect challenge for Earthworm Jim fans. People who suck at games beware, this is not for you(especially the crybabies who said earthworm jim was too hard!)

Sonic Jam Review

Sonic Jam
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sonic Jam is a good game to recap events some might have missed out on in the past. In it are the games that were once on the former Sega Genesis console, Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles. Also included is a 3D museum entitled Sonic World in which you view the history of, you guessed it, Sonic, and also his friends and enemies. The Sonic games are well emulated, and have added options to change difficulty, play bonus stages, etc. This, I believe, was a very good idea, as novice players might have found the originals too challenging or there might have been those who only wanted to play a specific part of the game. The whole of the game is preserved including cheat codes (which are hinted throughout Sonic World) and environments, but now in Sonic 1 you can use the spindash. The only downside to Sonic Jam is the fact that you can't play any other Sonic games (such as Sonic Spinball or Sonic CD), the sound emulation is a little muffled, and the fact that Sonic World is a little too small and claustrophobic, it doesn't look it's best. All in all, Sonic Jam is a collector's item, highly recommended, but only if you can get your hands on it!
Pros: + Replay the original Sonic games or play what you missed + Added options/features to suit every gamers needs + Top notch emulation (- sound) + Interactive "Sonic Museum" + It's a SONIC game! :)
Cons: - Sonic World is too small and graphics are not high quality - Sound emulation for the Sonic games are muffled - Really no added replay value: once your done, your done - Missing key Sonic games (ie. Sonic CD)

Sonic CD Review

Sonic CD

Sonic The Hedgehog CD(1993). Sonic's third adventure, and the only Sonic game released on the Sega CD system.

By 1993, Sonic 2 had already been out for a year, and the series had become one of the biggest things in gaming around that time. But before Sonic 2 had even come out, Sega had begun the workings of what would eventually become Sonic CD (hence the reason for the similar graphics like Sonic's animations and the shield and lamposts from Sonic 1). It was also around 1993 that Sega had begun to promote their Sega CD add on, so they also thought it would be a good idea to jump the gun and throw their mascot on that system as well. Thus, Sonic CD came into existence.

Now unlike some Sega CD games which were just Genesis ports with added CD-quality music and the "CD" thrown on the end of the title, Sonic CD is actually its own game, and boy does it sure do a lot to stand out from the others. This adventure sports 2 awesome soundtracks (one for Japan, and another one for everywhere else), TONS of levels, some new tricks, and most evidently the main feature of the game: the ability to time travel. That's right. You can literally CHANGE TIME PERIODS WITHIN EACH ACT FROM THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE! How cool is that? Sadly, to this day, no other Sonic game (and even most games out there) has ever tried to mimmick this awesome feature. Now some Sonic fanatics out there will tell you that Sonic CD isn't an official Sonic game, and they'll put it down relentlessly in favor of the Genesis titles. While I agree that the Genesis Sonic games are all classics, don't listen to these fools who diss on this masterpiece. It's a very underrated game in the context of the rest of the series sadly due to its only platform being the Sega CD, which few were willing to shell out cash for a whole system just to play one game (let's face it, aside from Sonic CD, the Lunars, Terminator, Snatcher and a handfull of others, the rest of the games on the Sega CD were nothing but FMV crap). But there are many who have, and most will tell you it is indeed a great game and fits right alongside greats in the series like Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic Advance 3. Now let's look at all the neat stuff this game has to offer:

PROS
-COOL SOUNDTRACK! Yes, it's dated and veeery early 90s sounding, but a lot of the level tunes fit their environments really well, and some songs even flat out rock! The "Sonic Boom" theme song will be stuck in your head for days. There's a bit of hip-hop thrown in there with some corny tacked on "do-wap" style vocals, but overall the soundtrack works. Sonic 2 still holds the top spot for best music though.
-FAST PACED, INTRICATE LEVELS TO EXPLORE. Unlike the loosely fixed paths of Sonic 1's stages and the polished warp speed environments of other games, Sonic CD's stages are very layered and have huge areas to explore at any place in the stage. Plus, they also have a slight "roughness" to them and don't seem solely based on perfect speed through formulas that the other Sonic game's stages were designed for.
-SOME OF THE MOST INNOVATIVE BOSSES IN ANY SONIC GAME. Just look at some of them: A pinball machine level-boss, a boss surrounded in breathable bubbles to break through, and a race with Sonic's metallic twin, Metal Sonic. 'Nuff said.
-I've mentioned the time warping already, but I must address the feature that lets you CHANGE THE FUTURE OUTCOME OF EACH STAGE. That's right, each level has both a good and bad future, in addition to the past and present. The past has a very organic, pastel look to it, where as the present is more bright. The good future also appears bright, though with machinery and wildlife existing in harmony, whereas the bad future is depressing and depicted much like a graveyard of the present or good future of a particular zone. To get the good future, you must travel to the past and destroy a robot generator thing. This actually gives the player a reason to explore the levels besides simply cruising through them.
-AWESOME SUPER PEEL OUT MOVE! Why this wasn't put into any other Sonic game is beyond me, but this move is basically a super speed dash without the spin, and Sonic's feet look like a figure 8. Really cool.
-VERY AWESOME STORY AS WELL. Technically, since it takes place between Sonic's 1 & 2, Tails is nowhere to be found, but in his place is the introduction of Amy Rose (who you'll see a lot more of in the Sonic Adventure games and the GBA titles). Metal Sonic is much better than the Robo-Sonic thing from Sonic 2 as well.

CONS
-THERE ARE 3 ACTS PER ZONE, BUT THE THIRD IS JUST A PIT STOP. You'll only fight a boss in this act, so there might as well just be two acts.
-And speaking of bosses, while they are very innovative in creation, some can be brought down in just a couple of hits! Why waste them like this?
-The super speed dash move is flawed in this game. You have to let it fully charge before you can take off, which might put off some newcomers.
-Some of the zones are merely repeats of ones found in Sonic 1. There's enough variation, but you can still see the similarities.

There you have it. The underdog of the Sonic series. If you're a new fan, don't start with this one, but do find it any way you can. Until Sonic Gems collection came out recently, Sonic CD was VEERRRY hard to find on console. It's also available on PC as well, so go play it!

This game has tons of neat things. Hook on most games, and get a special stage. Hooking on Sonic one lets you play a whole bunch. Hook on sonic 2 and play as knuckles in sonic 2. Sonic 3 is neat too. Find out about the super emeralds. Or play regularly with lots of levels. The Game Genie is good on this game. (Very rare but fun. I have one)

Finally, Sonic Adventure takes it's first leap from the Game Cube onto the PC. Now I can finally play the game that marked Sonic's first run in a compltely 3D envoironment. It was also his first tread on our little Earth. The story: Dr. Eggman has discovered a mysterious creature called Chaos, a water based monstrosity that feeds off the power of chaos emeralds...by devouring them! With each emerald absorbed into it's blue gel-like body, Chaos becomes ever stronger. It's a race against time to beat Eggman (no pun intended) to the emeralds or Chaos will become powerful enough to destroy the world. This title was originaly released on the sadly short lived Sega Dreamcast as simply Sonic Adventure. This second version of Sonic's biggest land mark (before Sonic Heroes) is the so called "director's cut" though not much seems to have changed. Then again this is the first time I've ever played this one. The 3D rendering is a bit new for me (I'm used to playing Sonic in 2D) but it's fun. I've gotten the hang of it. I also love the music, but then, I've always enjoyed the music in these games. I also like the fact that you can play, not only as Sonic, but as one of five other characters as well (as opposed to Heroes in which you play as teams of three). There's also Tails, Knuckles, Amy and two characters who were new at the time of this game's release Big The Cat and a robot with a consience E-102 GAMMA. And even better, each character has their own story line to follow so it's a different game each time you play as a different character! And remember, in a way you're also playing Sonic X, the hit cartoon on 4Kids TV which I am also enjoying. Here's to hoping they release Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on the PC soon too.

Sonic Adventure 2 Review

I'm a twelve year old gamer who first found "Sonic Adventure 2" on a demo disk after buying "Phantasy Star Online."I have the original game "Sonic Adventure" and I have to say that the game has much improved.I found in a magazine that the game runs a smooth sixty frames per second and has 6 playable characters including Sonic's pals, Knuckles and Tails.Sonic's adventure is mainly an action/adventure platform, Tail's adventure is a shooting platform, and Knuckles is a rare somewhat of a "hiding go seek" platform. The music for the game is fantastic especially for each action stage since the music sort of sets the mood for each stage.Oh yes, there are more than 30 action stages! The game also has some elements of the original game such as the blasting through each stage as fast as possible or just exploring, but now it is faster, the characters have new moves, new action stages, and basically all of the glitches in the original game are removed such as the falling through the floor.Over all, this game is really exciting, fast paced, fun, and is sure to please any Sonic fan.If you're not a Sonic fan, then this game definitely will make you one.I highly recommend buying this game.It makes you feel proud that you bought that Dreamcast.

When longtime Sega mascot Sonic the Hedgehog made his debut on the Dreamcast console in Sonic Adventure, gamers were stunned. Sega had not only used the game to show off the tremendous possibilities of the then-new hardware, but they had reinvigorated the platform-style arcade adventure genre with massive, intricate levels, gleefully distracting minigames, and even a new kind of virtual pet, called a Chao, that could be combined with other pets, traded with friends, and even exchanged over the Internet. Sonic Adventure 2 ups the ante of its predecessor with all-new puzzles and levels, and even faster action reminiscent of the early Genesis-era games. Knuckles and Tails are back, as are the Chao pets (who can now talk!).

I will never forget the snowy Xmas of 1992 when I made the upgrade from the trusty old Commodore 64 to the Sega Genesis. I got about 1 game per week for the Genesis and tried just about everything. My first ever game tho was Sonic the Hedgehog. The gameplay was simple and that's the way I liked it.
The graphics were cute. From bright blue sunshine and tropical landscapes to the cruel mechanical world of Doctor Robotnik (now called the Eggman). The music was great (where are the soundtrack CDs???) and I was never happier.
Sure it was totally easy but I always went back for more. This game had such charm is it any wonder why Sonic is still so popular all these years on?

Sonic Advance 3 Review

Sonic Advance 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is by far the best Sonic GBA outing ever. Whereas SA1 felt too linear and cautious with the stage design, and SA2 concentrated almost entirely on an uneven mix of speed and exploration, SA3 feels a lot more like the old-school Sonic games on the Sega Genesis.
Clearly responding to negative feedback to the previous SA games, Sega have taken the insane 'superspeed', tricks and character animations from SA2 and the intricate level design from Sonic & Knuckles. The game is much longer than SA1 and 2, featuring 7 zones and 3 acts to each zone, as well as 'hub' levels, where you can select to play the acts in any order you wish (and also play/unlock minigames). Glitches like grinding in SA2 have been fixed, and special stages are much easier to reach.
A new element introduced is the 'partnership' system, where you play with a partner, either a friend or AI, enabling you to perform new 'combos': for example, with a Sonic/Cream combo Sonic can breathe underwater and use Cream's homing attack, while with a Knuckles/Amy combo Knuckles attacks with Amy's hammer. 20 combinations are available, each with their own advantages, although it is possible to complete the game by just leaving your partner behind (albeit harder).
The acts themselves feel much like the Genesis Sonics (taking out the massive ebdless pits from SA2), and feature many classic Sonic signatures, like popping bubbles for air, slippery waterways and bouncy flagpoles (and cheap deaths:P). Badnik design has improved, with some enemies who 'do the unexpected', like a piggybank that drains you of your rings. Thankfully, Sega have abandoned the 'running' boss battles of SA2 and returned to the 'static' bosses, each of whom need some getting used to. An improved version of the Phi robot from Sonic Battle also features, and as you fight him throughout the game he gains more attacks and becomes harder to beat. The game is far from easy, and the final acts (and the final boss) are really quite difficult, hard to get past without losing a life or two.
Sound is excellent, featuring the usual cheery tones of the Sonic games with a few twists (ie Sunset hill, with the remix of the original 'Green Hill' theme from Sonic 1). A new addition is the voice acting from Sonic battle, so deaths are no longer signalled by the "bong!" but with a "whoa!". Which is sometimes annoying, especially on the harder stages, but Eggman/Robotnik's "You're going to pay for this!" makes up for this.
Overall Summary:
Graphics 5/5: colourful stages, great character animations
Sound 4/5: cheerful music, voice acting can get on nerves
Gameplay 5/5: most of the level and boss designs are perfectly executed and timed
Lastability 4/5: many charcters and combos to try, gotta find all the Chao!
Overall 5/5: a return to roots for Sonic Team, with all the problems that plagued SA2 smoothed out. Welcome back Sonic!

SA2B has to be one of the best games I have ever played. Here's why:
As soon as you play the first level of the Hero storyline (my favorite level), you'll be hooked.
With two storyline's and 180 missions to complete, you won't be done with this game for a while. There's even a secret storyline...
Multiplayer modes are insanely fun. While you can only play with 2 players at a time, the amount of fun you get makes up for it. There are many Multiplayer modes: Action Race, Robot Battle, Treasure hunt, Chao racing, Chao Karate, and Kart racing.
There are some pretty original ideas. You can grind down rails and slide down city streets on a snowboard while pulling crazy tricks off ramps.
The music in this game is unbeatable.
The storyline is very good, offering suspense, action, and even a few touching moments.
You can raise adorable little creatures called chao. You can even transfer chao from Sonic Advance into your chao garden.

Remember old Sonic on the Megadrive? How it was all about FUN and SPEED, and not the exploration and questing that the latter Dreamcast sequels seemed to have in abundance?
Well, Kids, Sonic is back and better than ever and now, thanks to some extremely brave and very, very well-executed gameplay changes, regains his foothold as the best platform hero in the world, bar none :-)
Granted, it feels all wrong playing Sonic with a PS 2 pad, but I know I speak for us all when I say I'd rather have Sega Games this way than not at all.
Sonic Heroes consists of all the usual levels - Seaside Hill Zone, Casino Nite Zone, etc., but it's in the teamwork where this game excels. Now, instead of just playing as one Hedgehog or one Echidna or one Bat or whatever, you have to employ teamwork across a cast of three characters per level in order to beat the game. There are 4 teams, so 12 playable characters in all - and range from Staples like Team Sonic (Sonic, Knuckles and Tails) to past characters (Rose the Bat, Big the Cat and Espiosa the... purple thing) to downright oddball characters (Charmy the Bee, for instance). On each team, one character is good for speed, one for strength and one for flying, and you do need to make good use of each character to beat the level you're currently playing. Also, the teams are graded in terms of difficulty, so beginners can start with Team Rose and work their way up, frustration-free.
This adds a huge sense of fun to the game, as well as keeping the Sonic concept fresh and exciting: hedgehog-runs-along-flat-plane is dull-dull-dull, but for the speed freaks the bonus levels are all about speed, and highly reminiscent of the Bonus Stages from Sonic 2. Similarly excellent is the presentation, as one would expect from a Sega game - there are a wealth of options to be unlocked, like new modes of play, the fabulous CG movies, different voices for the characters etc. - all of which makes for an excellent gaming experience.
Thoroughly recommended, this is another feather in Sega's cap and one of my personal favourite Sonic games to date. Enjoy!

Sonic Rush Adventure Review

Sonic Rush Adventure
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
UPDATE: After posting this article, I discovered you CAN in fact jump straight into different levels. It goes to show the importance of reading directions. While this does improve my already positive review of Rush Adventure, the 3D aspects of the game really don't add enough to the overall experience to up this title to a 5 star.

Sonic Rush brought the fleet footed hedgehog's side scrolling adventures to the dual screen.

The 2nd installment in the Rush series, thankfully, keeps the good and adds some nice little extras into an already solid platform.

As in the previous Sonic DS title, style plays a big factor in this game. When sliding along rails, or leaping through the air, pressing buttons will allow Sonic and Blaze to strike stylish poses to fill your boost meter. This was tweaked ever so slightly this time around to make it much more fluid.

The level design is also made just a slight more intuitive. In Sonic Rush, the feeling of old school Sonic blazing through the levels was brought back to life in a big way. Rush Adventure pretty much does the exact same thing, just removes a couple of floor spikes, causing the action to flow at top speed pretty much the entire time.

Without a doubt the largest change from Rush to Rush Adventure is the 3D gameplay. To get from level to level, Sonic and friends have to travel via jetski (you will unlock different crafts throughout the game.) Using primarily the stylus, you'll collect rings and take down enemies on your way to your chosen destination. Honestly, I've found that sometimes this is enjoyable and sometimes I want to just skip past it. Still, it doesn't detract from the game.

The cast of characters is what has become the typical cheesy Sonic fare. The storyline is no different. As the reviewer before me, I sometimes long for the days of old where Sonic would just show up, run around bashing enemies, flip the sign, and move on.

As far as replayability, the main storyline pretty much requires it. You'll need to go through levels multiple times in order to obtain the parts required to upgrade to better vehicles. Because there are so many ways to race through any given level, it really doesn't get old. After all, a misplaced jump could either send you flying into a bottomless pit or drop you to some path which you didn't even know existed.

Adventure is notably easier than its predecessor. Much the same as New Super Mario Brothers, you could quickly find yourself with an overabundance of extra lives.

While Sonic Rush Adventure may not turn into a Nintendo DS classic, it is definitely a solid purchase and worth the price.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Review

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I didn't really know what to expect when firing up Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood for the first time. After playing the game, though, I think I have an idea of what Bioware's pitch to Sega was in the initial meetings, "it'll be exactly like Mario RPG only with Elite Beat Agent mechanics thrown in at odd intervals, and a story told through the rich canon of the Sonic universe." That may sound like I'm not too into the game, but I am. It has flaws, but the basic description I listed above made a prett good game.

The game is a solid take on Sonic in an RPG forum, everything works and Bioware finds a place for all of Sonic's odd lore. The main problems, polish and pace, aren't enough to damage enjoyment of the entire experience.

My biggest complaint with the game is that it just feels and looks cheap. The game looks great while standing still. The backgrounds are crisp and the characters are distinctive for a DS game, but in motion everything falls apart. The characters do animate well, but you can't appreciate it, because the screen shakes when trying to track a character that is in motion. The backgrounds that looked detailed standing still look like something out of a flash game in motion and it all becomes a murky, janky mess that isn't pleasent to look at. You can work past this, but it does bring down the overall mood of the game.

Sonic is controlled in the same way as Link in Phantom Hourglass and this system works fine, but it is a little frustrating that you have to use the stylus. During battles when you just want to tap A and get through them quickly, you can't, you have to click attack and then select the target. It isn't a huge problem, but it is just a bit frustrating.

The biggest frustration beyond the cheapness is the pacing. The game throws you a bunch of fetch quests with little backstory or incentive. The quests aren't hard, but they are just filler and rarely pay off anything more than health or powerups. During the fetch quests you'll have to deal with on-map enemies that will attack you (or you them) and this will send you to the battle screen.

The battles are turn-based and basic. You have Attack, Defend, POW moves, Items, and Flee. These options are pretty much the same as other RPGs and identical to Mario RPG. The only mix up in all of these is the POW moves. Your POW moves are your magic, when you perform a POW move on-screen cues will pop up, that you'll have to perform in order to get the maximum power and accuracy out of your attacks. These cues are the bits that resemble "Elite Beat Agents" you'll have to tap on-screen buttons on rhythm, tap them so many times in a set number of seconds, or follow a button as it moves on screen. It is a fun, interactive way to keep the players involved in the battles. These on-screen cues only appear in the POW moves and when defending from enemies POW moves, it is the best part of the battle system, and I wish it would have been integrated in the normal attacks as well.

Finally, a lot of attacks "missed" which is a huge pet-peeve, it is really bad at the beginning of the game, but it does seem to calm down about halfway through.

Another thing that is identical to Mario RPG is the equipment and items. You can equip amulets, gloves, pants, etc. to increase your characters stats. You can also find and raise Chao that can provide special types of upgrades, these can be traded with friends. Again, it is still fun even if it is an obvious clone of Mario RPG.

It may sound like there is a lot wrong with this game, but honestly it rises above all these complaints to provie a good portable RPG that makes the best of a crusty old character that still has a lot of good will with a core group of gamers.

Bioware fans are going to be disappointed with the license and the Easterness of the design. Sonic fans, though, should be ecstatic for this game. The pacing does pick up a bit after a couple of hours and the battles are less repetitive then some RPGs and if you have good will towards any of these characters you are going to get sucked in. The story is nothing special, but it doesn't get bogged down in seriousness, even if Sonic's BADITUDE is on full display.

Sonic RPG is a lot of fun, it doesn't take itself too seriously which is why it is so easy to forgive it for not being very original, and at this point in Sonic's life I'd rather have a solid ripoff, then another mediocre (or worse) attempt to recapture old glories. As a portable RPG that is going to be played in short spurts it is a very good game, that may have a bright future in sequels yet to come. As for this time around though? It is a really good time.

Sonic Rush Review

Sonic the Hedgehog.Sega's mascot has been around a long time, and has always had a following. With Sega dropping console status and just sticking to development, all of the various Sega franchises have drifted around and landed in various places.Sega's most famous character, Sonic, and all of his gang have landed in the strangest place of them all:Nintendo.

I realize that Sonic Mega Collection and Sonic Gems and Sonic Heroes have come out multi-platform, but Sonic Adventures were released on Gamecube, and Shadow the Hedgehog has just come out on Nintendo's box. Also, the former rival is home to the real Sonic games:Sonic Advance 1, 2, and 3 on the Game Boy Advance.

It's true, that Sonic belongs in 2D.The sense of speed, of gravity-defying, dizzying velocity is really something that never translates well in 3D.Sonic just doesn't move as fast and doesn't control as well as he does when he's blazing through the 2D worlds that populate his games.Something is always lost in translation. There's no feeling of rocketing through worlds at insane speeds.

Well, the Advance games remedied that, but they didn't quite have the scope and balance of the original sonic games.Yes, they were fast, but they were also ... kind of small feeling. They felt like portable versions of sonic games. They were good, but I always preferred the old-school Sonic games as the real achievements.

Well, Nintendo has a new portable out, with a lot more power, and so it was just a matter of time before Sega would bring the Hedgehog over. How does Sonic Rush make out?Well, let me just say this:I might have a new favorite Sonic game. And if not, it's very close.

Sonic knocks the Blue Hedgehog kicking and screaming into a new handheld glory. This is a giant, beautiful game, with the kind of level design not seen since the old-school sonics. With the two screens of the DS, the Hedgehog's vertical now, with levels that launch our hero sky-ward and back across both screens without any real trouble in the transition between screens. It's fluid and gorgeous.

Actually, gorgeous is a great word for the entire game. The levels themselves are classic 2D.Not overly flashy, but beautiful and perfect for blurring past. With Sonic, flashy little details aren't as important as looking good for the split second you'll see it, and the levels don't dissappoint.Sonic himself is a 3D model, a pretty good one that moves wonderfully on the screen and makes for some nice effects on levels as he sometimes is thrown closer to the screen due to cranes, elevators, and slides that push forward in a wonderful melding of 2D and 3D.

The boss battles, though, are done entirely in 3D.So far, I haven't had the kind that takes place in an arena (where you can move all over) but instead on tracks where you can go left and right. But the boss is 3D, and you move in 3D space, and it really works in a retro sort of way.Yes, it's 3D bosses, but they move and behave with patterns that are wonderfully old-school.

Yes, there's a second character, a purple female feline named Blaze the Cat, but I've spent most of my time right now with Sonic. It seems that she controls similarly, and thus there's no lengthy distractions with slower characters (I'm looking at you, Sonic Adventure games!).This one's all about speed.

And the control! This game is perfect. It's all tight and responsive, and you'll need it, because with the speed Sonic goes, one mistake will send you careening into an enemy or plunging to your doom. It's not overly challenging (none of the Sonics are, if you ask me), but it's good and it does require skill, and that's really the whole point.

I love this game.I love Sonic, and this is one for the ages.Trust me, if you want a great classic console experience, this is it (and it fits in your pocket)! It's a must buy.It won't disappoint, I guarantee it.

FINALLY!!! A new sonic game. We had Sonic games on the Gamecube before but they were all originally on another console. They were running on an old gaming engine as well. But this game is a work of art. Everything, the new team formation, the graphics, the storyline (which is interesting because Shadow survived but he doesnt remember how because he got an amnesia and also that his enemy is now Eggman also). There are 4 teams of 3 characters each. Team Sonic has Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Team Dark has Shadow, Rouge, and this new robot guy that was created/betrayed by Eggman called Omega. Team Rose has Amy, Cream and her chao friend Cheese, and Big the Cat. Another excellent thing as well. The people from Knuckles Chaotix returned. Team Chaotix contains Espio, Vector, and Charmy. They all are against Eggman. BUY THIS THE 1ST DAY IT COMES OUT!!!!

Sonic and the Black Knight Review

Great game similar to Sonic Unleashed! It has very good replay value, but must give it a break after 20 minutes or so. Unless you do much jumping and doing much trial and error, you won't survive for long. Like Paper Mario games, there is too much dialogue you can't skip for the most part.

You keep doing the same test run through different stages, and to me, it is redundant, and IMO quite a learning curve. What you do is not so much tedious per se but confusing, and what do all those items mean? I don't know how to access the inventory. It is difficult to do better than two of five stars unless you have practiced long enough.

The one nice thing other than great graphics, sound, and retro effects during the cut scenes like watercolor on film and paper is that, unlike most Sonic games (especially during the Genesis days, and man those were some awesome graphics back in its day), you don't lose all your rings in The Black Knight. To survive the (so realistic, wow!) dragon, you must get as many rings as possible, because it is hard to dodge those large bites. Just be sure that you truly know how to swing your sword, or you are a goner!

Minor annoyances, confusing inventory, and detraction from what a sonic game used to be, I give this game a B- or B. I have not played it long enough to state whether it would be recommendable.

I have been to England and France somewhat recently, and truly appreciate how awesome the Sonic Team went with this release. IMO Sonic Unleashed is a better game, though a bit more challenging, but less confusing.

Hope this is helpful. In some ways, video games in this genre remind me of Castlevania, and very much graphically reminiscent. In fact, this newest Sonic game featuring King Arthur sounds very much like a candidate for the Castlevania series. After all, they take place in Europe, so there you go!

Zelda: Twilight Princess has some similarities too, but I do not own it and have not played it. Best of all, the Wii is almost perfect--no technical glitches or bugs, but the Wii remote does go through batteries rather quickly.

Look, everyone's upset that there's cursing. But, let's face it - cursing is everywhere today. Just come to my school during lunch and you can learn about five curse words that you've never heard before!

I really liked the game itself. For anyone with anger issues, it's very therepeutic. The only reason I gave the game's fun 4 stars is because my brother plays it more often than me! The beginning was very cool, in my opinion, the dialogue helps to explain what's going on, and it's challenging enough to keep you coming back.

10 different endings? That's a lot better than most games. You can replay it and not get the same ending just by changing your choice in the end.

Overall? 6 stars.
