(More customer reviews)I always preferred the Guitar Hero guitar to the Rock Band guitar (play-wise anyway) but the quality of the Guitar Hero guitars is weak.GH3 guitar had problems with the connection between the neck and the body.That has been fixed with GHWT, but the new one lacks in new areas.Mostly the strum bar.Occasionally mine registers extra hits (RedOctane's fix is to "hold" the strum bar and not "strum or flick").Also, it will occasionally not register strums at all (My solution to that problem is to smack the body of the guitar with my palm, which I shouldn't have to do at all).And, probably the most irritating thing, my strum bar feels like it's rubbing against something on the up-strum, which throws my flow off just enough to miss notes.
I've done some research and I'm not the only one having these problems.GHWT would be an awesome game if the guitar wasn't crap.I highly recommend GHWT if you have a guitar the works properly.
Hopefully they can get it right, because the guitar feels good in my hands, except for these couple problems.

(More customer reviews)This beats any other American music game that has came out so far, and yet nobody has even took the time to review it! The object of the game is to press buttons in time with the beat of songs, while this nay sound shallow at first, you really have to play it to understand that this is a greatgame. Simmilar to a fighting game in the way it is set up, you first choose1 of 10 (14 when you beat the game with certain people)dancers, then you goto anouther dancers stage. Music begins playing ( different for eachpersons stage) and you must press the buttons accordingly. The charatersrange from Hiro (a disco dancer with a very 70's dance style, to Kelly (myfavorite) who is a woman dressed in a fetish costume. There is even"Kitty-N", who looks like a teenage version of cat woman. TheONLY 2 thing's wrong with this game are: 1.Pinky's stage and 2.All dancershave the same button combanations. For the music alone this game is worthpicking up. Bust A Groove 2: dance heaven mix is coming ............. and Iown the import! It is a wonderful game and you may wish to purchase it whenit arrives stateside ...... Although you should be warned that thisgame was edited when it was brought to the US just like Umjammer Lammy,still it's a great game and you really should get it. Music games are greatand you may also wish to try Dance Dance Revolution.

Amplitude Review

(More customer reviews)Amplitude is a music game which is unique in the fact that it uses songs from established artists - some you most certainly have heard.If you are familiar with music games you would be at home here - the music plays and you perform a part by "playing" the controller while the "music" moves by on the screen.It is the sequel to a game called Frequency and some of this review compares this game to that one.
The game also allows you to remix songs but I did not get into that on Frequency and again fail to find it enjoyable.Also the head-to-head mode of this game is kind of strange - the single player is much more enjoyable in my opinion.
One of the best parts about Frequency was getting introduced to groups I hadn't heard before and hopefully some of these artists will turn out the same. The music in Amplitude is a mix of familiar and unfamiliar artists.Strangely it seems to be harder to play the songs that I know (Weezer - Dope Nose or Blink 182 - Rock Show) than songs I haven't heard before. Some of my favorite songs on Amplitude are Baseline by Quarashi, Cherry Libs by Garbage, and Urban Tumbleweed by the Baldwin Brothers. Ultimately I feel like somehow these artists were picked to promote them for Sony - I wish there were more variety of tracks.
Amplitude is easier to beat than Frequency was - there are 4 difficult modes (Mellow, Normal, Brutal, and Insane) and I started on Brutal when I first got it and played through in about 2 1/2 hours.The expert mode of Frequency was much more difficult.Easy mode is easy enough for my 6 year old to play.
I would have been happy with the Frequency base game with new music - what Sony needs to do in the future is modify this game with new music every 3 to 6 months and rerelease it for $20 or so. Much of the effort in the sequel seems to have gone into the system that allows you to create your own "guy" and as you play you unlock new clothes - whatever.Your guy sort of plays along with you - if you are on a guitar track he plays guitar and when you play drums he switches to drums.
A final word about the music.I love 4-letter words in my music as much as anybody but while I enjoyed playing Frequency with my kids, some of the songs in Amplitude have bleeped out words and are about mature subjects - and some words that in my opinion should be bleeped aren't.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Review

(More customer reviews)The gameplay is GHIII is fantastic (The Boss Battles in career mode are a little silly, but they are thankfully optional). The track list is awesome and the songs are extremely well implemented and fun to play.

The wireless controller included in this PS2 bundle, however, is a big step backwards from the wired SG controllers bundled with GH I and II. I have experienced several random drops in response from the green and yellow buttons (not due to proximity from the receiver, I was less than four feet from the console). The buttons just stopped working. Also, the whammy bar is much closer to the strum bar, and my fingers on my strumming hand kept getting caught in it. Finally, the tilt sensor on my controller only worked intermittently, which was doubly frustrating because they moved to start and pause buttons directly behind the whammy bar, so the alternate method of triggering "Star Power" (hitting the start button) is almost impossible because you have to take your strumming hand off of the strum bar and bring it up and over the whammy bar. I'm returning the bundle and buying the stand-alone GHIII game, and I'm ordering a wired GH2-style controller directly from Red Octane.

Green Day: Rock Band Review

This is a review for the solo "career mode" only. Haven't touched the XBOX live and multiplayer yet--I will update my review once I do that. I am also a big Green Day fan so that also affects my review.

Review:
I have REALLY been enjoying this game!!! I played through the whole main game in two days (which is HIGHLY unusual for me... I rarely ever complete a game no matter how much I enjoy it) and am now working on unlocking all of the bonus content.

High points:
* Great variety of songs from Insomniac - 21st Century Breakdown albums (3 partial albums, 3 full albums)
* Great variety of slow/fast/punk/pop-punk songs
* Great behind the scenes videos, photos, and concert performances -- rewarding and fun to complete the challenges
* I have only played guitar so far, (completed on hard and started on expert) but the parts have been a lot of fun and have a nice variety in song styles and playing styles
* Great replay value. As with all other Rock Band games, with 4 instruments to play, 3 part vocal harmonies, and 4 difficulty levels to choose from, there is plenty to do!

Low points:
* Repetitive stage-entrance videos (it appears to be one video for each venue that is shown at varying angles. It would have been nice to put forth the small effort to create a couple more varieties.
* Only 3 venues (and thus 3 sets of outfits for the bands)
* A little on the short side (would have loved more songs for the earlier days) in terms of the initial run-through

All in all, Green Day: Rock Band is very entertaining and a must-have for Green Day fans despite the average visual appearance. If you like Green Day at all, this is a must-have for your Rock Band collection!

Rhythm Heaven Review

(More customer reviews)As soon as I got this, I realized the potential of having music students enhance their rhythm skills through this game, even before they formally learn particular counting patterns in their music studies. Only, this is a uniquely FUN way of learning!I am literally demonstrating it to the families I teach to present it as something to purchase as an asset to their lessons.Of course the kids love me for that!Who'd a thought they would get a DS game because of their piano teacher?!

If you are a music student or the parent of one that struggles with keeping time or using a metronome, this game will install a solid, internal beat inside every gamer, whether they realize it is happening or not.I have passed many mini-games with my eyes closed while purely tuning into the music and the sound cues that are provided as you progress.The key to winning is in the beat!You cannot be successful at this game without "hearing" the songs assigned to each mini-game or without engaging with the music's rhythm.

The other thing I find myself doing with the taps and flicks is that I am actually "playing" the game as if it were an instrument.The games themselves become part of the music!Every interaction with the game becomes motion creating sound that completes the songs that the games are set to.It is like being a participant in a band, choir, or orchestra.But, because of the literal game you are playing, it is a unique experience.

It can be hilarious as you interact with the characters through the mistakes you make or the successes that allow you to pass each level.I have found myself full-out laughing at some of the antics or creative surprises that are thrown at you along the way.

I own about 50 DS games and this game is definitely in my top five.I recommend it to anyone that loves a challenge, fun, and music.Here's to Rhythm Heaven 2!
