Mega Man ZX: Advent Review

Mega Man ZX: Advent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This highly anticipated game will satisfy Mega Man enthusiasts, but may frustrate those who are new to the Mega Man Zero/ZX series. The factors for this are manifold:

The voice acting in the game is unrefined and it clearly shows that, because of fans railing against Capcom for the preclusion of said voice acting from the original Mega Man ZX, the pressure to get an English voice cast was just too overwhelming. The only redeeming factor in this might be that there actually is some voice acting, period.Good voice acting, though, comes with a heavy price.Grey, the fourteen year-old reploid with no past, sounds like he's well in his prime.Ashe, the fifteen year-old hunter, is reminiscent of Ashelia Dalmasca from Final Fantasy XII, except just not as appealing as Kari Wahlgren's voice role.Characters that might not sound as bad include Aeolus and Vent, who have edifying things to say and don't sound nearly as annoying as Thetis or Model A.

Voice-overs aside, the game is quite intense. The tediously primeval map system from the original ZX is not to be found here.Thank goodness! With more stylus abilities than its predecessor, Mega Man ZX Advent is just as interactive and innovative as The Legend of Zelda:Phantom Hourglass. The difficulty is, however, noteworthy. There are many Pseudoroids with an eclectic variety of abilities that one must memorize in order to choose the correct one to proceed to previously impenetrable areas. The Trans-On (or in the English version, A-Trans) feature may be overwhelming at first, admittedly, and yet the function is facilitated largely by the Profile menu, upon pressing Start and then L.The menu is more complex, and with due reason--14 characters to choose from is no small feat.Capcom has outdone itself this time, and the graphics are stunning.Simply observe the different terrain within one level and you will see what I am referring to.

The background music is its hallmark. There is no better soundtrack to listen to on any Nintendo DS game than to this one. From the classic-Capcom electro beats of Grey's opening stage (the track is called "Destiny") to Ashe's sky-high theme ("Through the Lightning" and "Be One") to the incredibly catchy Vent/Aile Model ZX Megamerge sequence ("Determined Eyes").Which brings up the cinematics of the game.Although it should be noted that Ashe's story has shorter clips, they are still as state-of-the-art as they get, culminating in the Model ZX encounter and transformation sequence.Check out YouTube for these. My favorite is Aile's "Rock On".Capcom can be blamed for a lot things, which include an inept attempt at connecting loose storylines, and the unbearable difficulty of the game itself, but they should also be praised for their innovative graphics, control scheme, and their music!

The basic premise of the game is this. You choose a reploid named Grey, or a human named Ashe, who become the Chosen One for Model A (which reminds one of Axl from the Mega Man X games). You are to protect the world from a serious threat stemming with the same power as your Biometal from reaching its full potential.Prometheus and Pandora are key villains who test your might by pitting you against other "Mega Men" or Chosen Ones, who essentially possess similar powers as yours. If you do not confront the person who is perpetrating this series of events, then war and chaos will befall the reploid and human race, bringing it back to its discordant times dating back to Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero eras.

I won't spoil much more.I hope this will inspire you to purchase the game, and I hope you enjoy it!

What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2 Review

What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord 2

I haven't used my PSP in a long time, but after reading about this game I decided to take a chance.I ordered the game, plugged in my PSP to charge and waited for Amazon's next day delivery. When the time came I was blown away! The graphics take me back to late 80's and early 90's, the game play keeps me glued to the PSP, and the game's humor takes the cake! The game is like tower defense and a mini life simulator rolled into one.Now these two genres alone are worn out, but with both combined with this kind of style and humor, this game is a winner.

You are an evil god summoned to build a dungeon and create the evil monsters that inhabit the dungeon. What makes this fun is the way the game mechanics work. You smash the blocks to build the rooms and halls and by hitting certain blocks you release the lower forms of the food chain, they combine and multiply and spread out to "infect" other blocks that allow you to create the next tier of the food chain. The next tier feeds off the tier below it and they multiply and so on.However, you can't just start destroying blocks willy nilly, you have to plan out the design and keep the wide open spaces to a minimum. There is a monster almanac in the game that keeps up with what monsters you have created along with little stories and humorous bits.As you are building out the dungeon waves of heroes come in and try to wipe out your minions and capture the head honcho "Badman", the guy that you work for. There are training scenarios, challenge levels, and a story mode.

PLUS, you get both the first and second game all on one disk if you buy the UMD, they are sold separately if you download the game via Sony's store. The first game can be accessed by pressing L then R five times at the main screen. L,R,L,R,L,R,L,R,L,R.If you play through the first game before starting the second you unlock extra levels in the second version.

Bottom line, if you like old Dungeon Keeper game, tower defense, life simulators, nostalgic graphics, and snarky "I don't take myself too seriously" humor from a game, you will absolutely LOVE this game.I cannot put it down!

In The Groove Review

In The Groove
Average Reviews:

From a business-ethics standpoint, I should hate this game.Roxor Games, the developer, took the concept of Konami's Dance Dance Revolution and copied it almost pixel for pixel to make In the Groove - even using the DDR cabinets in the arcade for its game (that stupid move got the company slammed with a lawsuit).

But in a way, Konami asked for it.Though DDR is dead in Japan, it continues to grow in popularity in the U.S., and Konami has not addressed that fact.It has not released a new arcade version since 2002.

This left the hardcore DDR fans clamoring for more, and Roxor Games stepped in, creating an arcade game by and for the hardcore players. Personally, I'm glad they did, because it revived a dying DDR fan base.

Now we have the nearly identical home version of that arcade game, and though it's not flawless, it's definitely a step up from the DDR home releases, which target the casual player.

You'll be lucky if you recognize one or two of the songs on In the Groove's songlist - but as far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing.Who wants to play video games to the same old junk that's on the radio? Most of the songs in In the Groove are interesting, diverse and highly listenable, and I plan on buying the soundtrack CD as soon as it's available.

The graphics are noticably crisper than DDR's, though the videos in the background are nondescript. Not a big deal, though.

The difficulty is where some casual fans may run into problems. This game is a step up in difficulty from any available version of DDR anywhere, and even the easier songs tend to be harder than easy DDR songs. The hardest songs, most players will find impossible, even the top players, especially without the arcade bar to lean on.

The addition of "hands" (three or four arrows at once) and "mines" (which force you to avoid certain arrows) are welcome gameplay features, and the first real innovation in the genre since DDR's 6th mix introduced the freeze arrow. In the Groove has about four times as many "mods" (ways to change the appearance and scrolling of the arrows) as any DDR game, but most of them are pointless, and I never use them.

In the Groove offers a marathon mode, pretty much identical to Nonstop mode in DDR, except random mods turn on and off during your game.I never liked nonstop and I'll probably never play marathon courses, but some like them.

A plus for ITG is that it's a statistician's dream, presenting you with all kinds of numbers and charts after each song to show your progress. This is opposed to DDR's nebulous scoring system that makes no sense and is never explained in any game.

In the Groove has a few glaring flaws in programming, unlike the DDR games. For one, load times are absurdly long... up to 10 seconds between screens sometimes. If DDR can get away with NO loading time, even for songs with full-motion video, I don't understand why this load time is necessary.

Also, once in a while, the frame rate will skip a bit during songs... very distracting. Not much thought was given to the practice mode, and it's quite difficult to figure out which buttons do what, and to find the menu you want.

But those who are losing satisfaction in DDR will not care.If Konami ever decides to create a new arcade mix, they are going to have to work very hard to top the innovations that In the Groove has brought to the genre.

Now I have not Played Gallop Racer 2003. But Let me tell you this is an AMAZING GAME right here! I have had so much fun playing it. I have played it for hours on end. Really good graphics, The controls are not too complex. There are just many things as a jockey that you can do to effect your mount. This is a game for people who love horse racing. You do interact with your mounts in the race, you can help suggest races for your regular rides if you are able to be good enough to have a trainer ask you to be a regular rider. It is very realistic. Easy is not too easy and hard...well that says enough! It's HARD! The game is not over after you become a Grade 1 Jockey. It will keep going year after year if you want it too! It is an amazing game! If you like Horse Racing you will LOVE this game. It is funny how some horses are named very closely to real ones. Cat Thief in the game is Catch Thief. lol There are alot more. Very funny really. See if you can catch some more! Lemon Drop Kid = Lemon Syrup Kid haha. They say none of them match but it sure seems like they are close. Even the silks are close. Silver Charm = Silver Calm, he has similar green and yellow striped silks! lol Any way GREAT GAME! I will definately get G1 Jockey 4!!

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts Review

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well first off, I'd like to say that there has been a concern with the text in this game. I think the points made by others are valid and the issue of small, fast-scrolling text IS being addressed by RARE and will soon be fixed with a patch. The text issue ONLY affects those with an SDTV, HOWEVER if you have an HDTV the text is legible. It only scrolls fast for cutscenes, but in-game, when talking to characters, you have the option to choose when the next screen comes up. The only reason I dedicated this large section just to the text, was because the other people base their reviews on it when the rest of the game is practically flawless. The game doesn't deserve 1 star because of this and it should be higher cause I don't want a review the negate the average score when other parts are superior. Now onto the actual review!

The game plays by you building your own vehicles with the different parts you collect. At first the vehicle-building system seems complex and difficult to master, but after learning the basics, any kid could create anything! With all of the parts, you could make vehicles ideal for riding on land, flying through the air, gliding through snow and water, and even swimming underwater! Although the majority of the games were based around on-foot platforming, there are still parts you can run through and explore. Due to the use of vehicles now being available, the worlds are MASSIVE and detailed. It would take minutes to cross on foot, which is why riding a vehicle is a must. In total there are 6 worlds to explore, each comprised of several acts. Each act of the level is huge with characters and lots of enemies and physics objects to carry and push around. The gameplay is centered around using your vehicles to complete challenges, races, and games. Completing them can earn you notes or a jiggy which can be collected from a bank rather then "stored" in Kazooie like previous ventures. If they're completed fast enough, you can earn a T.T. trophy which are used to get even more jiggies. The whole point of the game is collecting enough to fight the final boss.

The characters are funny and well designed with well written dialogue. Some charcters talk with weird grammar on purpose to sound like they have accents or can't speak english very well.
The graphics are beautiful, all of the levels are HUGE with extreme detail, color, and characters. The game runs super smooth with no slowdown or lag whatsoever with everything appearing clearly from far away. The soundtrack is also incredible. The majority of it is borrowed, remixed, and remade orchestrally from older Banjo-Kazooie games. The sound effects are all brand new and sound great. With surround sound you feel like your in the world. The game is very long and has tons of replay value due to so many secrets and challenges to complete.

On top of this there is online multiplayer. You can play using default vehicles or custom made vehicles. There are lots of modes to choose from. You can simply race in land, sea, or air or complete in fast paced matches trying to destroy each other with your crazy vehicles. If parents are worried about other peoples online behaviors you can choose to mute or ban any disruptive or trash-talking players You can also set limits for how long they can play online.

Overall, the game is great for BOTH children and adults, will be enjoyed for months, and it's a great value for what you're getting. I highly recommend getting this game for the holiday season for any kids. It's a bargain and an unforgettable experience.

Turbo Subs Review

Turbo Subs
Average Reviews:

I just installed this game yesterday, and it's a whole lot of fun to play. This is a basic time management game, like Cake Mania or Diner Dash, which are also a lot of fun.

The goal of this game is to prepare orders for diners quickly in order to get enough tips to upgrade your restaurant (and get through the level) so that you can make more $$ for more upgrades. You play Rebecca, and you work with your brother Robert, who makes the subs.Customers come in and order various subs, drinks, chips, desserts, coffee, etc, and you have to manage your time in providing them with their order.Certain things take longer to prepare, and you have to be able to do more than one thing at once so that the customer doesn't leave in a huff. It's also important to collect your tips quickly, partially so you can wait on more customers, but also because thieves show up and will steal your hard earned $$ if you aren't fast enough.

I also have Turbo Pizza, Cake Mania, and Diner Dash, which are also fun. This game is very similar to those, but it has the thief character, which those others don't have. Also, while you can use your $$ to buy upgrades, certain levels come with free upgrades, which of course mean more work. There are also a few search-and-find mini games that can earn you more $$ for upgrades.

This game is a lot of fun and I highly recommend it for people who like time management style games.

Cake Mania 2 Review

Cake Mania 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After mastering Cake Mania, I of course bought No. 2. There are lots of new characters, graphics, etc. but the strategy remains the same. This game differs from the first in that the location of the ovens, topping machines, and icing machines switch locations at every level. Also, the types of cakes baked are not the same on all 3 machines whichmakes the baking process a bit more difficult. The first few levels (or "worlds" - you'll see when you play the game) are relatively easy. However, my experience is that the levels go from this level to straight-up impossible (or very difficult). I guess this is a good thing for Cake Mania addicts as this challenge keeps the game fresh. I tried to find No. 2 for DS and apparently, as of right now (2008), Cake Mania will not be coming to DS (at least not this year). :(
