I went from borrowing my son's 2007 version of this game to buying my own 2008.The game is very fun, involving various opponents and sets of cards, and retains playability for weeks via unlocking new opponents and downloadable content.

As far as differences on the new 2008 versus the old 2007, of course there are new cards. Also the 2007 format of having puzzle duals available are gone, instead there is a more interactive "Dual World" where you choose different roaming opponents on a map.As you defeat more opponents (usually 5 times per opponent) you unlock new maps/zones.CPU battles are still around, and exist separate from Dual World, though playing through Dual World will add new opponents to CPU battles.

You can still use the DS wifi connection to connect online and download a different cards, new opponents (like Jaden), and puzzles. But as far as the puzzles once you download them I honestly can't find the option to play them on any meny anywhere.

Yu-gi-oh really reminds me of playing Magic: The Gathering back in the 1990's, just with bigger numbers and different card combinations. The stratedy and mechanics are still there and it seems more "meaty" than trying to play a game like Pokemon.
