This game is a full blown dos game yet easy to install with the right tools.. in less than 2 minutes I was playing the game.I installed it on 2 machines; a core 2 duo with Vista x64 home premium and a P-4 prescott single core with hyperthreading and xp professional.I used a dos emulator on both machines called dosbox which downloads for free(just google dosbox) and a front end loader that is free called dosshell made by Loonies Software also downloadable. set the dosbox config file to cycles=auto and core=auto. Doxbox nailed the speed for this game on both machines. From the Dosbox z: prompt type mount d d:\ -t cdrom, then hit enter, then type mount c c:\ and hit the enter key, then type d: and hit enter.. this will mount your hard drive and cdrom drive and put you on the cdrom drive.type install and follow the instructions making sure you remember what sound options you used and later go back to the dosbox config file to make sure it says the same thing you installed.Do the full install option and you won't need to use the cd to play the game.. it will play from your hard drive. Dosshell is just as easy.go to edit in the upper menu and then preferences and make sure the dosbox path is intact or browse for it in program files.click the add Icon and type in Warcraft as a name and type in a group.. I used "real time strategy" then browse the path to warcraft ... most likely c:\warcraft. and press ok. the Icon will show up in the group tab you put it in.double click it to play. I mount most of my dos games in this fashion currently I have 17 games mounted.Warcraft is easy to play and you can set the speed of scrolling and how fast the units move right in the options menu of the game.It plays on both of my machines smoothly and with no hangups. The resource gatherers(orc peons and human peasants) will harvest away without stopping until they run out of resources or the opposition attacks them.Your fighting units have to be moved individually and you must click them to move them and use the move command in the menu.I gave this game a 4 cause moving individuals and not being able to draw a box around a group of them got a little tedious and the graphics are dated.... but the game is still a classic and one of the few early real time strategy games. Many of these dos games were turn based strategy, operating much like chess or checkers. This game might be "An Oldie but it's a Goodie".
