Phantasy Star 0 Review

Phantasy Star 0

This game is FANTASTIC. I'm a fan of the classic 2D Phantasy Star games and the online series. I even have my fair share of experience in the Phantasy Star Universe. PSZ offers 14 character types 350 new weapons/items and has a gameplay style much more similar to PSO rather than PSU. It has 7 areas, and the offline story mode can be played from 3 different perspectives so that gives it some replay value. According to SEGA there's a total of apx 60 hours of offline gameplay if you play all three perspectives (races). Online gameplay is great, and can lead to countless hours of Phantasy Star goodness. You can play in a random group of people (that meet ur search criteria) or with friends, you can even play online quests alone if you like. The story is intriguing enough, I don't want to give any of it away though, you need to experience it for yourself. The game does a great job of capturing the classic feel of PSO, while still maintaining some of the newer stuff from PSU. Graphically it has some of the best graphics to be seen on the DS and the best online play of any DS game I've ever played. SEGA utilized a similar communication method to that of PictoChat to use online. It works great; you can draw anything you like, save shortcuts, or copy other people's chats and save them as your own. I HIGHLY recommend this game for DS and DSi (yes this game will play online with a DSi you just need WEP security, no security, or a Nintendo WiFi USB connector).

Final Fantasy XI with HDD Review

Final Fantasy XI with HDD

I want to clarify a few points for Amazon buyers who wish to purchase this game used. FFXI is a unique game in the fact that once the account expires you cannot play it ever again. The game Key will be broken and will not work ever again. This will require you to purchase the game again. So be carefull. Even if the game was only installed for the 30 day trial and they didn't play it after that. The game key will last for 3-4 months of inactivity after that you will need to repurchase the game. to get around this you can go inactive and pay once every 3 months to keep the account going.

Hope this helps for potential buyers of this product. ;)

Guild Wars Factions Review

Guild Wars Factions
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Games have certainly come a long way and Guild Wars: Factions is no different!

Characters: Both classes offer niche offerings. For example, the Ritualist is a great support character with either healing or damage-dealing properties. The Assassin on the other hand can rush in and do damage every second, slicing and dicing the enemy before they have time to react. What is the most important feature of Guild Wars over all though?Your secondary profession! It MUST compliment your first one if you want a well-rounded character as elite skills are just the tip of the iceberg.

PvP: Howabout PvP you say?Guild Wars: Factions has it in the form of unlimited potential sporting actual missions that can be done over and over again with guild members or with randomly grouped comrades in arms.

PvE:Quests and missions do abound, but not as greatly as in Guild Wars: Prophecies.Guild Wars: Factions only contains thirteen missions total where Guild Wars: Prophecies contained more than twenty.Does this hurt the game?Well, there are plenty of areas to explore, but the continent is not as large as the landmass of Tyria by any means so technically, you could finish exploring all of Cantha in less time then the later.BUT, the game does manage to balance this out though with a very good placement of enemies including enemies that roam in semi-predictable paths making strategizing even more important as you may find an enemy that was running away from you suddenly coming up behind you!

All in all, I'm still playing through Factions on my third completed character and still finding new nooks and crannies to explore. If you're a fan of in-depth RPG's, then you'll enjoy Guild Wars: Factions.

Product Description:
The stand-alone Guild Wars: Factions is the second campaign in ArenaNet's massive multiplayer online role-playing game. The Factions campaign, which can be played either as part of the regular Guild Wars or as its own separate game, takes place on the continent of Cantha, where new and existing Guild Wars players join an epic quest to defeat an ancient evil and save a war-torn empire. New scored challenge missions and strategic competitive missions allow players to test their role-playing prowess and earn the right for their alliance to take control of cities, towns and outposts.

Two new professions, Assassin and Ritualist, join the original game's classes. View larger.

You can customize your characters' clothing colors, weapons and armor. View larger.

If you're interested in complex characters and interactions, look no further than Guild Wars: Factions. View larger. Large-scale alliance battles pit teams from opposing factions against each other in a struggle to conquer new territory and redraw the battle lines across the continent of Cantha. New elite missions allow the most skilled players exclusive access to areas of the ultimate cooperative challenge.
Besides new content, the biggest addition to this sequel are its two new professions, Guild Wars: Factions' Assassin and Ritualist, which join the original game's warrior, elementalist, monk, mesmer, necromancer, and ranger classes. In terms of their immediate skills, Assassins specialize in wielding a dagger weapon in each hand and attacking swiftly, while using evasive skills to increase their running speed. Ritualists, on the other hand, specialize in summoning a variety of stationary spirit creatures in battle. Although these spirit creatures can't advance or retreat like normal characters, they can remain in the world for up to two minutes and can dish out some pretty significant damage, particularly when multiple units appear suddenly amongst enemy characters. In a pinch, Ritualists can instantly destroy their creations in a flash of lightning that damages any nearby foes. Ritualists even possess a unique resurrection skill that can be used multiple times in battle at the cost of half their current health points. Users should note, however, that the new professions are available only in the game's competitive arena battles, and only in certain combinations.
These two new professions actually add a great deal of variety, because in Guild Wars you create a character with both a primary profession and a secondary profession. In Factions, as in the original Guild Wars, all professions' inherent qualities can be useful when picked as a secondary class. For instance, the assassin's ability to move quickly over short distances includes a skill called "shadowstepping," which lets assassin characters briefly sprint, then immediately transports them back to where they started. This becomes incredibly powerful when used as a companion to the fireball-hurling elementalist class, suddenly allowing your character to get close enough to rain down fiery death on enemies before instantly retreating. And the Ritualist can also augment its own attack power which, when combined with the ranger profession, allows you to fire highly accurate and damaging arrow volleys. Not to mention that the Ritualist's multiple-use resurrection power makes it an extremely valuable addition to just about any adventuring party.
As you might expect from a Guild Wars game, when chosen as the primary, each new profession has a highly distinctive look to it. The Assassin resembles a classic ninja assassin from feudal Japan, complete with ragged tights and a face mask. The Ritualist has an indigenous, shaman-like appearance that includes earth-colored tunics, ornate jewelry, and intricate tattoos. As always, you can customize your characters' clothing colors and eventually pick up different weapons and armor that will further alter their appearance. In both cases, each new character seems to fit in well with Guild Wars' art style, which features such influences as medieval fantasy art and Japanese anime cartoons.
Guild Wars: Factions furthers one of the best made, most popular, and most intriguing games of all time. Anybody who is interested in complex character development and interactions, combined with smooth and immersive combat-action gameplay, will want to check this series out. This Collector's Edition includes bonuses such as a CD of the game's soundtrack, and a double-sided poster with a Map of Cantha on one side and the Factions Poster on the other. This Collector's Edition also includes a game manual, quick reference card, art book, desk calendar, mouse pad, sticker set, key for bonus music, and a special in-game dance emote for the two new Assassin and the Ritualist classes.

I began playing the card game several years ago, and when the PC software came out, I knew I had to have it. I have just about worn mine out playing it over and over again. I would say it is a must have game, but since the online version was released they have shown no interest in upgrading this version. Therefore, if you are running Windows 2000 or XP, or plan to upgrade soon then you are out of luck as far as enjoying this marvelous game. I recently upgraded to XP and now I wish I hadn't. Only the oline version works on a newer OS, but you have to buy electronic cards. This really ..., especially for those of us who started out playing the original game and spent hundreds of dollars on the cards already.
In closing, the game is awesome and if you have Windows 95/98 and plan to stick with that OS for a while then definitely add this to your gaming collection. Windows 2000 & XP users, on the other hand, are just out of luck!

I have been playing WWIIOL since its release day over a year ago. I am an avid gamer who plays a multitude of FPS shooters, flight sims, andspace sims.Since I got WWIIOL I have bought several games (Medal of Honor, Warbirds III, Jedi Outcast, etc) None of them are on my harddrive anymore, WWIIOL is.
The sheer scope if this game is phenominal. It is a first person shooter that is also a flight simulatopr, and a tank simulator. They have one class of ship in now, and are planning on adding many more ships in the future.that is another great thing about WWIIOL. The designers are awlays adding new things to it and improving it!
Unlike so many other games WWIIOL has modelled the entire WORLD in 1/3 scale. At the moment they only have buildings and such in France, Belgium, and some parts of England, Germany and Holland. But what other game gives you that big of a map???
I look forward to playing this game for many years to come!

Tribes Vengeance Review

Tribes Vengeance
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I started playing tribes with "starseige: tribes".Tribes 2 was an awesome upgrade. However, graphics, sounds, and vehicles aside, I think "tribes: vengeance" is an inferior game to tribes 2.

I have conquered the single player missions and I have played several days worth of multiplayer.Things I like are the new vehicles and the updated graphics and sounds.Things I don't like are the lack of a targetting laser, all of the packs only last a few seconds after activation, and once you activate a pack you can't "unactivate" the pack until it runs out of juice.Furthermore, you can't activate a pack until it reaches full energy.

They changed the plasma rifle into a burner rifle. The burner rifle runs off the armor energy instead of being ammo driven, which is cool except that you can't use the burner while jetting around.

You can't seem to mount turrets on walls or ceiling. There are no pulse sensor packs or motion sensor packs or cameras. There is no health kit you can use anymore. There is a repair pack which passively repairs you over time, but it doesn't really help you recover from an "oops, that was stupid of me" kind of mistake unless you run and hide for a long time. The new repair pack is cool in that it repairs all equipment and players nearby instead of just one object at a time.

Another thing I dislike is the new voice hot key list.I can no longer say I am going to defend the generator. Now, I can only say I am going to defend the base.Less specific and I think that hurts team work.Additionally, you have to hold the shift key while you are keying in the letter to say what you want to say, which takes two fingers. Before, I could key in a message while still moving with two fingers, now I can't move because the shift key has to be held, which disrupts game play and makes me a sitting duck while trying to communicate with my team.As a result, I rarely use the voice keys, which once again detracts from team play.

I don't like the fact that I can only carry three weapons even in heavy armor versus the 5 weapon slots in tribes 2.Also, the new missile launcher now requires you to guide the missiles to your target instead of being able to lock on to a target and then fire and forget.Oh yeah, there are no flare grenades either. In fact, for tribes: vengeance there seems to be only one grenade type.

The end result is that I like tribes 2 better.Tribes: vengeance is less complex than tribes 2 as far as strategy goes.I think it might be a good idea for VU to distribute tribes 2 as a bonus disk along with tribes: vengeance, since they were giving it away anyway.Maybe that will generate more sales, and if people like tribes 2 better they won't feel like they were ripped off as much.Better yet, maybe VU can add the missing components so that tribes: vengeance is actually an upgrade to tribes 2 instead of being, in my opinion, a down grade.

Great vehicles, graphics, and sounds, but in my opinion VU has wrecked the mechanics of this game.

Vietcong: Fist Alpha Expansion Pack Review

Vietcong: Fist Alpha Expansion Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Being a fan of FPS like Call of Dutty, Medal of Honor, Far Cry, etc. I consider this as an excelent game, let's me explain why:
1.- The graphics are some dated, but very cood. The jungle is very well representated in the game, the sounds are also very weel, you can hera the inscets in the jungle. In missions on the nigth, the refleccions are very good.
2.- The AI of the enemies are very good, they respond fire at you acuratly, take cvover and, in some cases, run away. When you die, the camera show you the enemie that kill you. For me is very frustaiting being killed for some sniper who is very well hiden and protected on the jungle.
3.- You team mates are very helpful. You giude a bunch of soldiers in diferent missions. In some you have to rescue a pilot who is being chase by the vietnamies. Yoa can send a soldier in front, who is very good detecting traps (also very interesting because are very well done, you can't seeit so easly). Also you can have a soldier who carries a lot of amunittion, and belive me, you need a lot of power tho finish this game.
4.- In combat, the action is realy furious, your team mates start to fire and in a moment, youy are involved in a battle who can be very long, until you kiled all the enemies, who, in some cadses, are hiden inside the jungle.

In all, if ypou like the original Vietcong, don't thik twice and buy this excelent expansion.

You nedd to have the original vietcong to instal this game.

In one word. THIS GAME IS ecelent.

Ultima Online: Samurai Empire Expansion Pack Review

Ultima Online: Samurai Empire Expansion Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The sixth expansion pack for the 7 year old Ultima Online series is at hand. What does this mean for the many citizens of shattered Sosaria? In a word: More.

More culture. Some people have criticized the addition of an Asian themed facet claiming it doesn't fit with the primarily medieval feel of the game. I disagree. Each facet *should* have its own identity and Tokuno certainly achieves uniqueness.

More exploration. The Tokuno Islands offer a wide range of terrain from grasslands to deserts to frozen wastelands to active volcanoes. Some areas are fairly barren (no doubt intended for new housing developments), while others are rich with detail and variety.

More character customization. The addition of the Ninjitsu and Bushido skills allow players greater variety in play style. Aspiring Ninjas and Samurai will have access to many new abilities.

More creatures. The new enemies found in Tokuno are primarily based upon Asian mythology. Most are designed to be challenging even for experienced players - even powerful well equipped characters will have a hard time fighting toe to toe with some of these new creatures.

More items. A wide array of new clothing styles, weapons, armor, collectibles, etc. The ability to dual-wield certain weapons is a particularly welcome addition.

More housing. In addition to the added housing areas in Tokuno, players will have access to new tiles and add-ons when customizing their homes.

More other stuff... Various other game mechanics (such as the guild system) have also been improved. Even the much neglected virtue system has received some attention. So yes Samurai Empire is very much about making UO more than it was. But are any of the new additions truly earth shattering? Not particularly. If you are happy with UO as it is now you will no doubt be very happy with SE. If you are looking for vast changes to UO however, you won't find them here. As far as UO expansion packs go SE lives up to expectations. No more, no less.

In spite of all the additions and improvements however UO still fails to achieve one important thing: purpose. This is a failing with the vast majority of MMOGs however and not limited to UO. You are given massive worlds to explore, thousands of players to interact with, and a wide variety of options... But no purpose. Nothing you do in the game has a lasting effect, there is no epic storyline that progresses in any significant way, the virtual world and people of Sosaria remain unchanged regardless of your actions. Instead of actively challenging you, the game merely exists and expects you to amuse yourself.

It is high time for MMOGs to begin incorporating the epic nature of traditional RPGs. UO in particular has a great legacy to live up to. The original Ultima series (now 25 years old) remains the finest example of RPG gaming. Ever. Ultima X promised to bridge the gap between the genres... With UXO's untimely demise UO more than ever needs to strive for something greater.Bottom line:

Is it worth checking out for new players? Yes - as long as you don't rely on high end graphics for your gaming pleasure. There is a reason UO has been around for 7 years - there is a LOT to see and do. Whether this is your first massively multiplayer online game or you've been playing them for years UO is worth experiencing. Unlike some MMOGs UO doesn't require you to buy all the previous versions separately - every release includes ALL previous expansions. At the very least it offers you good value for your money.

Is it worth getting for current players? If you enjoy UO there is no reason not to get SE. If you've experienced the addition of previous expansion packs you already know what to expect. New landmass, new monsters, new items, new skills.

Is it worth returning to for former players? I suppose it depends on the reasons you left. If you originally quit in frustration over technical issues, SE runs with far more stability than AOS did upon release. If you quit because you felt unfulfilled with the game, SE probably won't be enough for you to return for.

It's not perfect, but it IS good.

Final Fantasy XI: The Vana'diel Collection

I first had some apprehension toward playing a MMORPG, but those feelingshave since gone.Last summer, I started playing FFXI, and had a blast.I had to quit because of school, and sold the game. I wanted to get back into it, but didn't want to spend the money again to rebuy the game, and then get the expansion.Fortunately for me, they decided to release this collection!I snatched it up and spent most of my time since playing it.

Now for some game details:The play control, graphics and sound are all top notch.I'm using a P4 that's about 3+ years old with a Geforce MX 420 card, and I"m still dazzled by the image quality. The game is designed for endless fun. Many people complain that it takes a while to accomplish anythign with the game, but that's the whole point. The game designers made Final Fantasy XI for those that want a game that really never ends, but still keeps delivering a new and exciting experience over and over again.

Another complaint is the monthly fee...well, sure $13 per month can be a lot if you don't plan on playing frequently, but if you're an avid gamer that likes to get sucked into one game, this may eventually save you money since you won't have the time to do other things!

Monster Hunter Tri - Classic Controller Pro Bundle Review

Monster Hunter Tri - Classic Controller Pro Bundle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After spending nearly eight hours on this game in a single day/night, I can definitely say that I'm helplessly hooked.I tried a little bit of everything and thus far my opinion of Monster Hunter Tri is extremely positive with only a few minor issues.GRAPHICS: Wow.The first thought that shot through my mind was "this is beautiful!"Graphically the game feels a bit low-res on my 42" TV, but the art style and quality pretty much make up for that in spades. The environments are lush with details and beautiful colors. The details on weapons, armor, monster and dinosaur models are excellent and have definitely whetted my appetite for more.Human NPCs are kind of weird and awkward looking, but you'll quickly forget how bad they look when you see the monsters in action. The monsters are beautiful, varied, and a joy a to look at and watch. The animations on the many of the enemies are stunning, fluid, and you can't help but appreciate the effort put forth to bring these creatures to life.

GAMEPLAY: Both online and offline the game consists of hack-n-slash missions to go hunt gigantic monsters. There are some fetch quest missions as well, but most of the time the missions are very similar to what you would find in a game like World of Warcraft or other similar online offerings. The game has an exceptionally heavy emphasis on combat with minimal story getting in the way of the action.Combat can be either fast-paced or slow and deliberate depending on your personal style and choice of weapon. The combo system is limited but effective and each of the 7 weapon types has its own distinct style, advantages, and disadvantages. It may sound repetitive, but the driving force of the game is seeing what the next hunt will behold. Some of the boss battles, even early on, are simply breathtakingly awesome. When you kill a boss, even at the lower levels of the game, you will feel a sense of accomplishment.

Throughout the game you will level up your equipment, which is very important because your character actually doesn't level up.While your skill in combat is very important in this game, you won't get anywhere if you don't make sure you get the best armor and weapons available.Loot is king, and you will spend a lot of time hunting for the right components to craft the next big awesome weapon or armor upgrade. As you upgrade your weapons and armor you will see an amazing amount of customization in your character appearance, but more importantly you'll also see an amazing difference in your combat performance. When it comes down to it, this game is hard.Casual gamers will likely be turned off by the difficulty and depth of this game, but those looking for a deep and engaging action RPG experience need look no further.

DESIGN: Level designs are varied and gorgeous.I have only seen a handful of the sections of the game and can confidently say that the levls and maps are awesome.Environments are varied and in many cases the environments play a key role in your hunting strategy, influencing the weapons and equipment you choose to bring with you as well as your basic battlefield strategies. My only real complaint is that you will see a lot of load screens as you pass between zones.Luckily, these load screens are blessedly short (2 to 5 seconds usually) and don't ruin the gameplay experience, but the issue really does interfere with the immersion factor.

CONTROLS (when using Classic Controller): Controls are solid, as long as you use the classic controller. While more complicated than many games, the controls are responsive and the button layout is pretty good for the most part.Once you get past the slightly steep learning curve, the controls will become second nature. The swimming controls were actually better than I expected. My only major complaint about the controls I find it is too easy to accidentally use a potion or healing item because the same exact button is used to sheath your weapon.I drink a lot of potions on accident because of this issue, but on the plus side my characters are usually pretty healthy!

CONTROLS (when using a Wii Remote and Nunchuck): Oh. My. God.Who thought these controls were a good idea?Seriously, I don't think I have played a Wii game with more complicated and unusable controls than this.Different actions depend on whether or not the controller is twisted left or right, but you are still swinging the remote around, and button mappings are inconvenient and change depending on the context of your situation. It's a mess.My advice to anyone wanting to play this game, buy a Classic Controller.

SINGLE-PLAYER MODE: Single player mode is very solid, but very challenging.A storyline is present, but most people will probably find it forgettable.Really, it comes down to finding loot, hunting awesome monsters, and making cool weapons out the body parts of those monsters.

SPLIT-SCREEN ARENA MODE: This is pretty decent and my roommate and I dove into this for a little while. We found it enjoyable but the experience is fairly limited, consisting only of boss battles within a single arena with a pre-set selection of equipment. You can gain some pretty nice rewards within arena mode and it's a decent way of introducing a friend to the game.Compared to online multi-player or the single-player modes, split-screen doesn't hold a candle.

ONLINE EXPERIENCE: Getting into the online experience takes some getting used to, but this is truly the best part of the game.I would favorably compare this to Phantasy Star Online, except this is so much better on nearly every level.I do question the wisdom of the "Server -> City Gate -> City -> Quest" structure, which takes a bit of getting used to, but it does work.Without coordination and communication between other players, it is a little too easy for a newbie player to accidentally start questing alone when the real intent was to joining together for a quest.Once you learn how to navigate the online world, finding a group of people to play with is fairly easy. The game supports Wii Speak for online chat, but most players don't seem to have that peripheral at the time of this writing.I didn't experience any lag at all while playing, and once I intentionally joined a server that had the highest number of users just to see how well it performed.I was pleasantly surprised.

The player community seemed nice enough and of the small handful of people I've played with most were either helpful, polite, or silent.Chatting with your group will be important, but virtual keyboard in the game is a bit clumsy, as is the case with every virtual keyboard I have ever used.I plugged a spare Apple USB keyboard into my Wii and found that it worked perfectly and made communication much better. If you don't have Wii Speak, at the very least find a spare USB keyboard and plug it in, preferably one that uses a wireless dongle. So far I've only met one rude person with a higher level character that talked trash on me for being new to the game, but muting those people is simple. That elitist, high-and-mighty, God's gift to gaming has been permanently added to my banned players list and I'll never hear from him ever again.Problem solved. The internet can definitely do without people like that.Overall I would say that my online experience, while slow to get rolling, has been largely positive.I expect to probably spend well over 100 hours playing online with this game, possibly more.

PROS:
+++ Gorgeous graphics
+++ A hard-core loot-based action-RPG experience that quickly offers difficult challenges. Not for the faint of heart. This game will challenge you.
+++ Online 4-player cooperative monster hunting gives you the chance to share some truly awesome battles with others.
+++ Voice chat.Online play allows the use of the Wii Speak peripheral to allow players to communicate between eachother.
+++ Keyboard support.Plugging a standard USB keyboard into the Wii will allow you to chat easier with other players.
+++ Lagless online play.I was completely shocked by the lack of lag when I played online.I may just be lucky though.
+++ Online play does not require Friend Codes in order to communicate with other players.
+++ Initial character creation and customization is fairly deep, allowing a wide range of physical characteristics.
+++ Amazing enemy models and animation, full of detail and amazingly fluid.
+++ Arena Mode, a limited but decent split-screen multi-player boss challenge experience is included.

CONS:
--- Steep learning curve that may scare away more casual gamers.
--- Repetive mission designs, much in the same vein as World of Warcraft, Phantasy Star Online, etc.Go here, kill that, collect this, complete mission, get next mission.
--- The controls when using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck are so awkward and complicated that they are almost worthless. In my opinion, this game is really only playable if you use a Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro.
--- Frequent screen load times, but thankfully the load times I experience are usually less than 4 seconds.
--- Although voice chat is supported it is hard to find players with voice chat enabled.
--- NPC animations and character models are fairly stiff and awkward
--- NPC dialogue is pretty bad.At its best it is humorously awkward and annoying at its worst.
--- Online play is a little confusing at first because of the "Server -> City Gate-> City-> Quest" structure.

Releasing a deep, engaging, and time consuming game like this right at the beginning of summer is just cruel.I know I'll be torn between playing this game and hitting the great outdoors.I have a few (mostly minor)...Read more›

Co-op Multiplayer
Utilizing the graphics and wireless capabilities made possible by Wii, Monster Hunter Tri allows for a unparalleled co-op gameplay experience, both online and offline. Players can hunt in groups as large as four players online, or two players offline (split-screen). Co-op play is split between two modes: Open-world hunts and Arena mode. Open-world hunts allow players to explore the Monster Hunter world, taking on the creatures they seek wherever they may be found. The caveat is that within this mode players, as well as monsters, can retreat and even escape bad situations regenerating to fight another day. Players who fall in these clashes will respawn nearby, and as long as one of their party remains alive the monster(s) faced will retain the level of damage inflicted upon them before the player's death. Arena mode is similar in most ways to Open-world hunts except that battles take place in set arena settings where there is no retreat for either side, making it a battle to the death. Communication between players in either mode is facilitated via Wii Speak and text chat support.

Multiple Controller Support
Monster Hunter Tri features a wide array of controller configurations and options. These include: Wii Remote and Nunchuk, Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro. Mario Strikers Charged Review

Mario Strikers Charged
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Back in 2005, Nintendo really knew what it was doing by briinging Mario and his whole gang to the wild and outrageous world of sports on the Gamecube. Undoubtingly, the experiments worked beyond expectations. Mario Superstar Baseball, delivered a fun and entertaing home run with baseball madness that was fun & had some excellent minigames. But what really exploded was Super Mario Strikers, a wild and outrageous soccer game that really brought out so many kicks into the game. It really was a delightful treat for gamers everywhere, that a sequel had to be made for a second goal, and it was worth the wait.

Mario Strikers Charged for the Nintendo Wii is the thried Wii title to endure with competing against gamers online through Nintendo's Wi-Fi connection, and the game delivers. The game follows in suit well and brings even more fun that Super Mario Strikers left over. The gameplay includes returning characters Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, as well as a couple of new playable captains like Bowser, and Diddy Kong. You can also even use your Mii's you've created as captains, as you did before from Mario Party 8. The game includes new arenas that really work beautifully with the Mario experience, ranging from the traditional, to arenas where whomps drop down on you. The control here is a bit different here in the game, as you use the nunchuck controls to move your captain and crew, and you use the Wii remote to block, pass and shoot your soccer balls to score.

There also is a new feature added to the game, a mega strike, where you could shoot as many as six goals at a single time at the goal. There are also new offensive tatics from the players. Wario could let out a foul odor to cause your opponents to hold their breath while your in control for the ball, and Mario could turn into a giant with his new moves. The graphics look wonderful and the gameplay is even more addictive than ever before, but the controls here take a bit to get used to, but once you complete the Strikers 101 training, you'll be able to get the gameplay down easily. There are also a few new charactersand trophies that are added to unlock for extra gameplay for exhibition competetions, including Petey Piranha from Super Mario Sunshine, who is making his attempts to score his kicks, but you'd have to unlock certain trophies in the tournaments.

All in all, while there are other great games coming out that have much more hype like Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the Wii, Mario Strikers Charged is worth the wait for sports fans everywhere. If you've loved the Gamecube edition, than you are really going to get your kicks here. I absolutely love the hype of the game, no red cards here, just all goals!!

I bought the orginal Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. Then I purchased Joint Operations: Escalation when it came out.I paid well over $50 for the pair. Now, the whole collection is bundled together and at a bargain price. With online play and subsequent updates this game gets better with age and never gets old. This game takes a little while to learn, but in the end it is well worth it.I've been playing for over a year and I still perfer it hands-down over the other FPS games that I have tried. It's up there with my other all-time favorites--Black Hawk Down and the Ghost Recon series on XBOX.

Everquest II: Echoes of Faydwer Review

Everquest II: Echoes of Faydwer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When Everquest 2 (EQ2) was released two years ago in conjunction with Blizzard's World of Warcraft (WoW), it was suppose to be the battle of two heavyweight giants in the game industry. However, EQ2 was far from being a complete game and it suffered as WoW has gone on to court well over 5 million subscribers since then.

Flash forward to present day and EQ2 has released it's third expansion - Echoes of Faydwer (EoF) - and it's easy to see how much improvement this game has made over it's two year journey. The game has gone through numerous changes - both from the combat mechanics down to the tradeskill subset - to where EQ2 not only makes a strong run against WoW for best MMORPG on the market but the most casual player friendly game on the market right now.

EoF provides players with a new race - the Fae - and a new staring city, Kelethin, to start on the continent of Faydwer.Race selection is not just limited to the Fae as you can also start as a Dwarf, Gnome, Wood Elf, or High Elf as well.Kelethin is considered to be a haven of good in this game so only classes that fall within the alignment of Qeynos can chosen for play.

The continent returns famous landmarks that many original EQ players will recognize off the bat: Steamfront Mountains, Butcherblock Mountains, Castle Mistmoore, The Butcherblock Chessboard, etc. to name a few.Old enemies return such as the Crushbone orcs, Mayong Mistmoore as well as new challenges such as The Pumpkin Headed Horseman in the Loping Planes.

New raid zones including Emerald Halls, The Freethinkers Hideout and Mistmoore's Inner Sanctum await guilds that desire to raid high end content and offer great rewards for those skilled enough to make it through the zones (more on that in a minute).New armor sets await including set bonuses along with the abilities to adorn current armor sets with bonuses.New tradeskills include tinkering and transmuting to add greater variety to the game and help improve characters over the course of their journeys. Finally, Alternate Achievement (AA) points can now be earned starting at level 10 and are split 50/50 between two trees; the first tree goes to your character's class archetype; the second tree is specific to your character's class.

As if that was not enough, old EQ players who may not have taken to EQ2 due to the lack of no interaction with the pantheon of Norrath can rejoice as the gods have begun to return to Norrath again.Currently, there are nine gods that players can worship. The catch, however, is that the gods are now have alignments and depending on your character's alignment will dictate which gods you have access to worship. The gods are as follows:

Good Alignment - Mithaniel Marr, Tunare, and Quellious
Neutrals - Solusek Ro, Brell Serilis
Evil Alignment - Rallos Zek, Cazic Thule, and Innoruuk

Worship of each god provide players with abilities in the forms of blessings and miracles.Players have to provide offerings to their gods in order to gain the points necessary to use blessings and miracles for their characters. It should also be noted that each god's avatar appears in the game as a contested raid mob. This will prove to be interesting how this plays out in game since it has been suggested that players worshiping a god who kills their god's avatar will be perma-flagged as hated by that god. This is probably done due to how players acted in EQ's Planes of Power (PoP) expansion in order to make the consequences of such decisions long lasting.

With all the good that this expansion has been for EQ2, there are some glaring problems right now.The first problem being that a lot of the Old World content, Desert of Flames (DoF) content, and Kingdom of Sky (KoS) content did not get re-adjusted with the combat update that removed the hard stat caps in favor of a system of diminishing returns. The main problem with the re-adjusted combat system is that raid and heroic mobs in the game seemed to miss the re-alignment.Currently, raid mobs in familiar KoS zones (Labs of Lord Vyemm, Lyceum of Abhorrence, Halls of Seeing, Deathtoll) and content in the Fallen Dynasty adventure pack (Chel'Drak, The Direvine Matron, the city of Nizara)is currently out of balance with the mobs one-shotting players right and left. This problem does not exist with the mobs in Fayder zones it seems save for the more upper level raid/instance zones (Castle Mistmoore, Obelisk of Blight). While this will be beneficial for players starting out, for more players who have been around for a while it makes running the current quest series hard until more tweaking of the combat system is done.

The second complaint that I have with this expansion as a whole - and this is a personal gripe - is the lack of support Freeport characters have in the game. The Fae are a new good-based race while Freeport characters are still limited to the evil-neutral race based classes that have been around since the game started. The new quests in Faydwer also have substantially higher coin and gear rewards versus their Freeport counterparts. In rolling a new Fae Mystic toon recently and taking her to level 10, she sat close to 2g from quest rewards and loot drops versus THREE Freeport toons I also rolled at the same time that have yet to break over that amount from quest rewards and loot drops (but they make more money based on their tradeskills alone).

These two items knock this down from being a completely perfect expansion but minor issues aside, EQ2 has come a LONG WAY from where it was two years ago and deserves a second look at.While WoW may have held the crown for this long, this expansion has shown that the EQ2 development team has truly come to the level - and in many cases even surpassed - Blizzard when it comes to crafting a MMORPG that players of all types can enjoy and get lost in for a few hours.

World Of Warcraft Expansion: Burning Crusade Review

World Of Warcraft Expansion: Burning Crusade
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This expansion pack introduces the new continent of Outland. This continent can only be accessed with a character that is at least level 58.If you're either just starting to play World of Warcraft, or you have no characters even close to level 58, you may just want to wait to buy the expansion at a later time.

However, the expansion also grants you access to two new races, the Draenei (Alliance) and the Blood Elves (Horde). You won't be able to create characters of either of these races if you don't have the expansion. So, if you want to play one of them you'll need to get it.If you're a new player who's just trying out the game, I'd suggest just getting the basic version and playing one of the original races, rather than spending the extra $40 before you even know whether you like the game.

You should also be warned that if you're upgrading from the original version of the game, even if your copy is already fully patched, you'll have to install the patches again after installing Burning Crusade. This is because they printed the CDs with version 2.0 of the client you use to play the game, but they've issued patches after that which you need to log into the server (up to version 2.05 as of this writing). If you look in the Patches sub-folder of your World of Warcraft folder on your computer, you should already have some of the patches present and be able to simply double click them to install. If you were to try to log in before doing that, you'll have to redownload the patch before it installs instead, which will naturally take more time.

Some people have complained about lag, crashes, and lines to log into the more popular servers. These are all short term problems.A lot of people are very excited about the expansion, and so there are far more players than usual logged in at once, which is straining the servers.Give it a week or two after release and it should begin to settle down.

For the basic version of WoW, the level cap is 60.If you install the expansion, the cap is increased to 70.If you have a level 60 character and want to continue to advance, you MUST upgrade your account with the expansion pack.

Additional level brackets for the Battlegrounds (Player vs Player areas) have been added to accomodate the new higher levels in the game. Also, a new battleground called Eye of the Storm has been made available for characters of level 61 and above.Additionally, around the zones of the new Outland continent, there are PvP tasks you can perform such as taking over control of towers, with the faction that controls all of the towers in a zone gaining a small bonus such as a 5% increase to damage anywhere in that zone.

They've also added a number of new instances/dungeons.The new ones have two settings, allowing you to go through them at either 'normal' difficulty, or 'heroic' difficulty. The heroic setting makes the enemies tougher, and provides increased treasure rewards. This keeps the instances useful for advancement over a larger span of levels than would normally be the case.

Most players will find that, as they do quests in Outland, they quickly begin to get armor that's superior to what they've previously been using. The monetary rewards in the new areas are also increased.Additionally, professions have been expanded to cover the additional levels in the game and tailoring has been expanded to include specialties similar to the way blacksmithing and leatherworking work.

Flying mounts are available on the continent of Outland for those who purchase them. However, these are not available to be used in the two original continents. This is because those areas were designed with the intention that they would only be accessed from the ground and a lot of work would have been required to make all of the quests and visuals work as intended if characters were permitted to fly around freely.

Be cautious about buying this item used. Each copy of the expansion includes a key code that is required to upgrade your account to allow access to the new content. If you buy a used copy of the software where the seller has already used that key to upgrade his account, you'll still be able to install the software upgrade, but the lack of an unused key will mean that you won't be able to apply the upgrade to your account that's required to actually access the new content.

If you install the expansion on a computer where more than one account is used (for example, if you and your spouse each has your own account) then you can only use the key to upgrade one of those accounts. The other account will continue to work, but it will not be given access to the expansion pack content. Therefore, you need to obtain one expansion pack for each account you or your household has if you want to access the new content on all of them.

Edit:As of January 22, 2007 Blizzard has announced on their forums that they're working on allowing players who already upgraded using the basic expansion to then also upgrade using the collector's edition in order to get the limited edition pet. You'll have to call Blizzard's billing service line with the unused collector's edition expansion key, so it's slightly more work than upgrading directly with the CE, but it can now be done.

Blizzard Entertainment took online role playing by storm with their hit title, World of Warcraft. With mind-boggling improvements in graphics, gameplay networking, and interface -- really every category -- this game became the crown prince of the genre. World of Warcraft players will be excited by the approaching release of the new expansion pack: World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. This pack expands the already massive, award-winning multiplayer online role-playing game by tremendous bounds, adding new races, lands, battlegrounds, professions and items, and much, much more. Although no release date has been set, here is sample of what you can expect from The Burning Crusade.

The expansion pack features an increase in the level cap to 70. There are two new playable races, including the magical Blood Elves that you can read more about below. The other race has not yet been released by Blizzard. There will be new starting zones in Quel'Thalas and beyond. Another eye-opening addition is the entirely new, unexplored continent of Outland that is reachable through the Dark Portal. Plus, you'll find many new high-level dungeons to explore in Azeroth, Outland, and elsewhere that will substantially boost gameplay. There are new flying mounts in Outland; tons of new and dangerous monsters (including epic world bosses); hundreds of new quests and items; and even a new profession: Jewelcrafting. Of course this isn't the end of the list -- this is just a glimpse of what Blizzard has planned for their unreleased expansion pack.

The New Story, the Rumors, and More
Several years have passed since the Burning Legion's defeat at Mount Hyjal and the races of Azeroth have continued to rebuild their once shattered lives. With renewed strength, the heroes of the Horde and Alliance have begun to explore new lands, and have broken through the Dark Portal to investigate the realms beyond the known world. In this expansion pack, The Burning Crusade refers to the Burning Legion's ongoing efforts to destroy life on Azeroth. To date, the Burning Legion's exploits have been documented in Warcraft III and in the War of the Ancients novel trilogy. As part of the expansion pack, players will now be able to travel through the Dark Portal to confront the Legion on otherworldly battlefields.

Although only one race has been revealed, Blizzard has announced plans to unveil details about possible additional races at a later date. On the other hand, many details have been released about the new continent, Outland. Players last visited Outland in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, alongside Illidan as he conquered the Pit Lord Magtheridon's domain. Players will also gain access to Quel'Thalas, the region to the northeast of the Forsaken lands, where the Blood Elves reside. Blizzard says that this expansion pack holds even more new areas that are ripe for player exploration -- additional details will be revealed in the months ahead.

Blizzard also has plans to add new dungeons and battlegrounds with the expansion, though the exact number has not yet been determined. One upcoming dungeon that has players excited is Karazhan, which is located within Medivh's tower. Because Medivh has played such a central role in Warcraft lore, Blizzard is convinced that longtime players will be especially interested in seeing what Karazhan contains. As for battlegrounds, Blizzard has released very little information. However, they have announced plans to make some of the battles from the past accessible through the Caverns of Time.

Blood Elves: The New Race
Thousands of years ago, the exiled Highborne landed on the shores of Lordaeron and founded the enchanted kingdom of Quel'Thas. These high elves, as they called themselves, created a fountain of vast, magical energies within the heart of their land -- the Sunwell. Over time, they grew dependant on the Sunwell's unstable energies, regardless of the bitter lessons they'd learned in ages past.

During the Third War, the villainous Prince Arthas invaded Quel'Thalas and reduced the once-mighty realm to rubble and ashes. His undead army decimated nearly all of the high elven population. In addition, he used the Sunwell's energies to resurrect a powerful undead Lich, Kel'thuzad, thereby fouling the Sunwell's mystical waters. The few elven survivors, realizing that they had been cut off from the source of their arcane power, grew increasingly volatile and desperate.

In the midst of the elves' darkest hour came Kael'thas Sunstrider, the last of Quel'Thalas' royal bloodline. Kael, as he was commonly known, knew that the remnant of his people would not long survive without the nourishing magic that once empowered them. Renaming his people "blood elves" in honor of their fallen countrymen, Kael taught the survivors how to tap into ambient mystical energies -- even demonic energies -- in order to sate their terrible thirst for magic. In search of a new destiny for his people, Kael'thas ventured to the remote world of Outland where he encountered the fallen night elf, Illidan. Under Illidan's watchful eye, Kael and his blood elves regained much of their former power.

Unfortunately, the blood elves practice of embracing demonic energies caused their former comrades in the Alliance to shun them. Thus, the remaining blood elves on Azeroth look desperately to the Horde to help them reach Outland where they can reunite with Kael'thas and achieve the golden destiny he has promised them.

Outland: The New Continent
Once the beautiful homeworld of the orcs, all that remains of Draenor is the scattered wastes of Outland. Following the Second War, the Alliance invaded Draenor by crossing through the Dark Portal. To their horror, they discovered that Ner'zhul -- the dark warlord of Horde -- had constructed a series of new gateways that could lead the beaten Horde to newer, unspoiled worlds. As the Alliance forces closed in around him, Ner'zhul opened his gateways as a means of escape. However, his plan backfired and the gateway's clashing energies resulted in a massive catastrophic explosion that ultimately ripped the world of Draenor to pieces.

Nearly thirteen years later -- towards the end of the Third War -- the fallen night elf, Illidan, discovered that huge chunks of Draenor still existed, floating upon the astral winds of the Twisting Nether. After his defeat at the hands of the evil Prince Arthas, Illidan fled to the remnants of Draenor and dubbed them "Outland." He quickly seized control of the chaotic region and sealed the last of Ner'zhul's gateways.

Though he is the undisputed ruler of the ravaged land, Illidan lives in fear that he will be discovered by his powerful enemies -- most notably Arthas, the new Lich King, and the remaining Lords of the Burning Legion. For now, Outland is home to a number of scattered draenei tribes, primitive orcs, and powerful, arcane creatures of the Nether itself. Agents of the Burning Legion have also targeted the region as a vital strategic location in their unending Burning Crusade to scour all life from the universe.

What else can expected? Blizzard has tantalized Warcraft players with the brief glimpse into The Burning Crusade's storyline. Will these heroes find friends or foes? What dangers and rewards lie in wait beyond the Dark Portal? And what will they do when they discover that the demons they thought were vanquished have returned to renew their terrible Burning Crusade? These and other questions will remain unanswered until the gameplay can be explored by role-playing Warcrafters.
