(More customer reviews)FFXI on PS2. It's the same FFXI you'll find on the PC or the 360. This is the original. It's the only true MMO on PS2 (Phantasy Star doesn't count, you can play it offline.), and you play on the same servers as PC and 360 players, AND you play with people worldwide. There's an auto-translator function that allows you to communicate with players who speak different languages, and while it's far from perfect it's solid enough to game with. Unfortunately this product is the only one with the HDD unit you need to play FFXI on PS2, but only comes with the Rise of the Zilart expansion. I would highly recommend buying this in tandem with Final Fantasy XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2008 and the PlayStation 2X Network Adaptor if you don't already have it. The latter is the other piece of hardware required to play FFXI on PS2, while the former will hook you up with the three expansions that came out later on (Final Fantasy XI Chains of Promathia Expansion Pack, Final Fantasy XI Treasures Ahi Urhgan Expansion Pack, and Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess Expansion Pack) for a much better price.

All in all this game is a better buy than anything else on PS2 for the RPG fan- You get more gaming hours for your buck than anything else out there.

(More customer reviews)I want to clarify a few points for Amazon buyers who wish to purchase this game used. FFXI is a unique game in the fact that once the account expires you cannot play it ever again. The game Key will be broken and will not work ever again. This will require you to purchase the game again. So be carefull. Even if the game was only installed for the 30 day trial and they didn't play it after that. The game key will last for 3-4 months of inactivity after that you will need to repurchase the game. to get around this you can go inactive and pay once every 3 months to keep the account going.

(More customer reviews)I first had some apprehension toward playing a MMORPG, but those feelingshave since gone.Last summer, I started playing FFXI, and had a blast.I had to quit because of school, and sold the game. I wanted to get back into it, but didn't want to spend the money again to rebuy the game, and then get the expansion.Fortunately for me, they decided to release this collection!I snatched it up and spent most of my time since playing it.

Now for some game details:The play control, graphics and sound are all top notch.I'm using a P4 that's about 3+ years old with a Geforce MX 420 card, and I"m still dazzled by the image quality.The game is designed for endless fun.Many people complain that it takes a while to accomplish anythign with the game, but that's the whole point.The game designers made Final Fantasy XI for those that want a game that really never ends, but still keeps delivering a new and exciting experience over and over again.

Another complaint is the monthly fee...well, sure $13 per month can be a lot if you don't plan on playing frequently, but if you're an avid gamer that likes to get sucked into one game, this may eventually save you money since you won't have the time to do other things!

-cheap expansion, and the Vana'Deil collection that has all the expansions is only 10 dollars more!
-New jobs are simple to find and start out
-jobs are more oriented for smaller parties

with the game moving to smaller parties it has become far more fun to play and easier to handle in small doses. If you are one of the gamers that don't play for hours upon hours on end to find a party... this expansion is for you!
