Star Wars: TIE Fighter Collector's Edition with Behind the Magic Module Review

Star Wars: TIE Fighter Collector's Edition with Behind the Magic Module

The credentials of this game are impressive. Among other awards, the was noted as Best Action Game of 1994 by PC Gamer, Best Game of 1994 by Strategy Plus, and Best Simulation Game 1994 by InterActive Gaming... andthat was for the ORIGINAL game. This collector's edition makes the uniqueImperial experience infinitely more rich by not only adding a number of newcampaigns, but by adding significantly improved graphics and sound.
Whatmakes this game so great? I can't do it justice in this short description, but everything that has ever truly made for good gameplay can be foundhere. The challenge is virtually perfect; if you play part of a level andfail, and you just KNOW that you can go back and do it if you try hardenough. This makes it all the more rewarding when you finally do conquerthat challenge. The replay value is excellent... I've played the gamethrough over and over again; it's like rereading a good book. And it doesan incredible job of creating an unprecedented experience... you are apilot in the Galactic Empire. Though usually portrayed as the Bad Guys, you'll see that the Empire is really about bringing peace and order to thegalaxy... about crushing the anarchist Rebellion... and if you have todestroy a few planets to do that, so be it! The subplot of intrigue andbetrayal make the game more compelling.
Again, I haven't done the gamejustice... you have to play it to believe it. If you don't have a reallyhigh-end computer but want a good game, this is the one for you. And ifyou're looking for a classic game with great shelf life, it's perfect forthat purpose, too.
It's just a really great game.

Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance Review

If you thought X-Wing vs. TIE was good, you'll love this. You play the role of the son of a family caught up in the Rebellion. You start by flying missions for your family business. Eventually you can join the Rebellionand fly X-wings, A-wings, B-wings, and you even get the chance to fly theMillennium Falcon! The range of missions is great, and you can practiseyour skills in the simulator, or the pilot proving grounds. My onlycriticism is that some of the early missions are very tricky, and thedifficulty does not always seem to increase in logical order.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Review

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Average Reviews:

If you waited a while and haven't yet bought The Force Unleashed, well consider yourself lucky and pick up this addition. It's a lot more addictive and fun.I own both versions.I had The Force Unleashed for Xbox 360, and I bought this Force Unleashed Ulitmate Sith for PS3, as well as owning The Force Unleashed for PSP (what can I say I own all gaming consoles). This adds three levels to the original game that to me I enjoy more than some of the games regular levels, this game is made to answer the "what if" question; like can you imagine Luke Skywalker becoming the apprentice to Starkiller (who killed his father Vader)?
Now the Sith Edition for Xbox 360 contains 2 disks, the first is just the regular game that's been out for a little over a year, with a bonus disk featuring the 3 new levels. On the PS3 version you get one disk that contains everything.I also wanted to clear this up, you don't get 10 collector cards, you get one (of either 10 different) card and a book that shows you the other. It's nice thou, it's foil stamped, etc.And what I think is really nice, is the case this game is in, it's not plastic it's a tin case.Makes for a dramatic look.Certainly a nice christmas gift for any Star Wars fan, even if they already own the Original Force Unleashed as I did.

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb (Jewel Case) Review

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is really a fun game.I've had it for a while, but have only recently been able to play it (I'll explain later), and in the short time I've been playing it has quickly become one of my favorite games I've ever played.

Anyone who has played the last Indy game (Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine) can remember the poor graphics, lame bad guys, and boring action that was that experince.Sure, it was fun, and I enjoyed it, but compared to this new(ish) game, it might as well be Pong.In "Infernal", you took down most of your enemies with a pistol or some other gun, and it didn't really have that Indiana Jones feel.In "The Emperor's Tomb", the fighting gameplay is much improved, with variations of punching, kicking, whipping, shooting, and clobbering. You can use items such as chairs, bottles, table legs, and shovels to your advantage here, and so can your enemies.Yes, you do get an assortment of guns, but ammo is usually very limited, and you will often find yourself resorting to fisticuffs (Which is more fun anyway).

The graphics look sweet. There are waterfalls, trees, city streets, submarines, shipwrecks, and all kinds of great eye candy. That said, don't be fooled by the low price. This game WILL NOT RUN ON YOUR OLDER MACHINES.I made this mistake.MAKE SURE YOUR SYSTEM MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS BEFORE YOU BUY.I had to wait until I got a much nicer computer before I could even load this game.

This is a must-have for the Indiana Jones fan, a chance to BE Indiana Jones, punching Nazis, whipping across chasms, and stealing treasures. Its just pure Indy goodness.

Star Wars: Tie Fighter (Jewel Case) Review

Star Wars: Tie Fighter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love playing games, but when push comes to shove, I'm not very good at it. I own both X-Wing and TIE Fighter. When I play X-Wing, I always die in a fiery explosion in my first mission (once I was lucky, though, and got captured!), but TIE Fighter is so flexible in difficulty that even I have gotten pretty far. It's more interesting, too. Most Imperial fighters (and all of the classic movie ones)have no shields, so you must rely on your wits, aim, speed, and allies to keep from becoming toast, and if you run off to do secondary missions (for which you gain major brownie points with the Emperor and promotions through his secret "Order"), sometimes none of these can save you. Luckily, at least on the difficulties I played on (and it can get much harder for all you challenge junkies), it's not very easy to die or get captured even if you try (yes, I have. yes, I'm strange).
If you hate games but love Star Wars (or vice versa), this is going to convert you. If you're into games of any kind (unless you only play solitaire and mahjongg, in which case you probably are from another galaxy anyway and don't need to discover the Star Wars one), BUY THIS RIGHT NOW. You will not regret it. You'll get more fun for your money than from any other game, even the Sims or Grand Theft Auto, no matter how sophisticated your computer is (I still only have 400 MHz).

Star Wars Bounty Hunter Review

Star Wars Bounty Hunter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was the second game I ever got for PS2 and I just love it. I still go back to it after several years for nothing more than the thrills and good times it has to offer. Bounty Hunter isn't perfect but it is one of the better Star Wars games I've played and its a great third person shooter. I remember how much the graphics, cutscenes, effects, sound, and dialog blew me away a couple years ago and all I can do today is appreciate all these things more. Every time I play the game (I've played it a lot) I find new things to mess around with, whether it be small rodent creatures to blast or secret areas containing heavy weapons. The worlds are immerse with detail and most are actually almost beautiful. The explosions and laser blasts that fill the levels all look great, as do the characters, who's lypsyncing and motions are excellently executed. The action gameplay is fast paced with a very high frame rate. The sound design sounds as though it was taken directly from a Star Wars film. And most of all, the story is very entertaining, from your first encounter with the villanous scum Meeko, to your stealing of Slave 1 from an astroid prision, to meeting Tyranus. The story takes you all around the galaxy and be prepared to meet up with some familiar characters such as Zam Weesel. Many have complained about the game's repetetivness and lousy camera and I will admit that the camera tends to work a little strangly at times, but it certainly can be controled and is not something to get all worked up over. Bounty Hunter's action has never boared me and I find it's controls to be intruative and easy to use. Star Wars Bounty Huter is an excellent game with high production values and many good things going for it, I truely hope Lucas Arts releases a sequel for it because it is one of the best games I have ever played. Thanks for reading.

Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures Review

Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
Average Reviews:

Raiders of the Lost Ark was one of the first movies I remember seeing as a child and it is one of my favorite movies of all time. That being said I was looking forward to a trip down memory lane with this game and I was not disappointed.

First of all let me say that this game is truly fun for all ages. While it may appear to be a kids game at first glance, it's actually a very fun game for grown ups as well. The game has the original Indiana Jones music as heard in the movies.A brilliant touch as it adds to the game tremendously. The lego versions of all Indy characters are well done and very cute. You will find virtually every character from all three Indy movies in this game and you can unlock them all as playable in "free play" mode.

Another area where this game stands out is the humor the designers have put into it.There are so many funny little moments and even some funny homages to Star Wars. The game designers have really done their homework and it shows.

As far as the gameplay...it's what you would expect from a Lego title.Lots of cracking the whip and punching things. While it can get a bit repetitive at times I completely understand why the developers did this.By keeping it simple the game really becomes accessible to gamers of all skill levels....and, in my opinion, that's a smart move on their part.

One of the best things about this game is the co-op mode.My wife never plays games with me on my PS3, ever.We recently saw the new Indy flick at the theater and I convinced her to play this game with me.She loves it!One of the reasons she never plays is because of all the "complicated" controls on the PS3's controller.Back to my point about the game play being simple, the controls are so easy she has no problem playing. There aren't complicated button schemes or an overabundance of complication so she feels comfortable playing and she does not get frustrated. This is one of those games that can be played and enjoyed by the whole family...and it's nice that it's $10 cheaper than most of the other PS3 games.

I gave this game 5 stars.Let me clarify this ranking.
Does this game have graphics as good as Uncharted:Drake's Fortune? No.Does this game have as engrossing a storyline and as diverse gameplay as GTA IV?No.
Does this game accomplish what it sets out to do?Definitely.

I've spent money on many PS3 titles that I did not enjoy nearly as much as this game.Lego Indy sets out to be a cute, nostalgic and simple game based on the Indiana Jones movies that the whole family can enjoy.I believe it has accomplished this in spades.Of course it will not appeal to everyone as hard core gamers are not the target audience but fans of Indy, families and those looking for a fun game will find that Lego Indy is a great time and I highly recommend it.

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga Review

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Real Time Strategy (RTS) games had never really gotten my attention until the release of Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.I had played Command and Conquer until it bored me into a coma, played StarCraft until I couldn't care if my units lived or died (which took about three hours), and played Star Trek: Armada until completion just to find out what happened next in the backstory (not being overly challenged by the combat scenarios). All in all, I had chalked up RTS games to being for a niche market that I, apparently, didn't belong to.
Then Galactic Battlegrounds came out and changed all of that.It is not terribly different from any of the above games or their bretheren (it reminds me particularly of Age of Empires - which it bases its game engine on - and WarCraft/StarCraft).There is an interesting addition in the form of air attack units, but I can't say that this is what brings be back to this game time and again.
I guess the addiction comes from pure fanboy glee.Let me put aside all rational gaming considerations like graphics (very good, but not fantastic), learning curve (very easy with a good tutorial, no manual reading required), and game play (well paced fun, never boring).Let's down to the meat of the act.Pure geekish fun.
Oh, sure, it is okay to control a bunch of annonymous soldiers and fight off invading forces like in StarCraft. But squishing a Jar-Jar Binks look-alike under the heel of your AT-AT Imperial Walker - now THAT is worth the price of admission!
Getting good takes practice like any other game. The difficulty is easily adjustable, and the replayability is infinate.Add in the fact that this bundle comes with the Clone Campaigns - adding two more types of forces to play from Episode 2 - and this will be the best money you have dropped on a video game in a long while.

Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast Review

Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First a small gripe: I truly wish LucasArts would release more Star Wars games like "Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast". Due to the lack of recent releases, I fear they've sold out to console game systems like Dreamcast and Playstation. My hope is they will return to the PC market and start churning out more games like this, which, well, kicked the Tabasco sauce out of any console Star Wars game in recent memory.
Simply put, the game is awesome. It's the first Star Wars game where the lightsaber is truly the most powerful weapon, provided its mixed with a few good force powers. Without a doubt the original JK and "Mysteries of the Sith" are both five star games, but the lightsabers were weak at best and downright useless at worst, except for the few times you had to use them to defeat other saber wielding opponents. I mean, in the original JK you had to face your enemy dead on to block a projectile. You couldn't throw your saber, couldn't jump three feet without pushing two buttons at once, and the moves you had.....slash, slash, buck-up, slash. That's pretty much it. In "Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast" you utilize more of the Episode I fighting style. In other words, you're flying all over the place (flipping, rolling, jumping 30 yards sideways, running up the walls) and not just standing there hoping your enemy will come close enough to hit. By the end of the game you have some truly impression abilities. You can throw your saber at will, throw your enemies at will, and jump 40 feet in the air at will. The gameplay is the best I've seen in a long time - great replay value.
I know some reviewers have complained about the difficulty level, and they're absolutely correct to complain. Even on easy the game is anything but. It's not just difficult puzzles or levels, either. Some places are difficult to get past just because of the enemies. On top of that the game does have it's fair share of frustrating puzzles. To solve these you can either buy the strategy guide (I wouldn't suggest spending the money, unless you want multiplayer tips) or search for an online walkthrough. There are plenty of them out there. That's what I did on more than one occasion, and that alleviated some of the frustration. Still, it took me two weeks to beat, playing on average an hour a day. The difficulty makes it fun, though, in a way, since the game's not over before you've even taken the shrink wrap off the box.
All in all, a must for fans of the original JK and first-person shooters in general. A definite Game of the Year contender.
