Harvest Moon Back to Nature Review

This game surpasses every other game made for the N64. IT is the most ebjoyable game. Its plot is different from most games as there are no badguys, bosses, fighting, or racing. It might sound pretty stupid as the plotmainly states farming, but there's much more that that. For instance, there's a whole world you can explore where you can buy animals, growcrops, and even make a girls love you by giving her things. You can getmarried from a variety of 5 girls or 10 girls in the PSX version. You caneven settle down and have up to three children in the PSX. The is muchmore, so much more the list would go on forever. To simply state it, the isthe best game in the history of Video game production. So I will ask you,Anybody who has a N64 or Play Station should deffinatly get this game as itnever gets boring. It's great fun for anyone and everyone. My dad has hisown file and loves it. The play station version should be much better theN64 version but the N64 version is still an out of this world Boo yahtotally incredible sweetness game. This game is simply about onething...life. By far the best game and also, I would rate it way higherthan 5 stars but I can't! IT'S THE BEST!

Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl Review

Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl

Yes this is a new version of Harvest Moon: back to nature with a few new twists.
Firstly, you will notice you may choose to be male Or female
(and yes they both have branching storylines and also different Marriage results!)
farming is Exact, possibly a little to exact as BTN (back to nature) but this is by far the best version for farming sim fans of the series. also back is the mining area which I had missed in other HM (harvest moon)
games (the ores for powering up tools are in here as well as other
Secrets!)

the sound is now dolby and the resolution has been notched up a little more then the ps1 version (its Progressive scan. go ahead and try running it on your TV with the new PSP go ahead... didn't work did it? you Have to have a Progressive scan high def. tv in order to use the Component cables the AV cables are for video etc. guess I proved my point on the graphics)
the animals can be fun or annoying, depends on what kind of farmer you are. Me personally, I prefer crop growing throughout summer *litle chicken raising too* then hothouse growing in winter! house and hothouse upgrades are here as well. this was a brilliant move to bring this gem to the psp!

graphics arent exactly God of War,(they are good though) but Perfect the way they are 5 star

sound is the same in dolby. good 4 star

to me 5 star! but not for everyone unless you have played the others.

Overall: this is by far my favorite Harvest Moon Game but stay tuned for my Innocent Life comparison Next Month.
5 Stars for Ownership of the farming/life sim game niche market.

Absolutely the best farming simulation ever. I've played the SNES version, the first GB version, and both were fantastic. The essence of love is alsoput into the game, letting you marry village people and keep lots ofloveable animals. In the game, there's farming, love, and economicsurvival! What more do you want? 100/10!!

Harvest Moon 2 takes the chore out of farming. Here you'll start with a patch of dirt and work it into a profitable ranch. Playing as either a young man or young lady, you'll go into town to buy seed, tools, animals, and other items you need for your growing spread. Once there, be sure to check out all the new shops and get to know the townsfolk. Back on the farm, you'll grow crops, catch fish and insects, and collect a variety of flowers and herbs, which you can then share with friends through the separately sold link cable. You can even export items from Harvest Moon 2 into Legend of the River King 2. Also included are several minigames for you to play. Best of all, you don't need to get up at the crack of dawn to play this game.

Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town Review

Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town
Average Reviews:

Harvest Moon has been HUGELY addictive on the SNES and N64. The GBA version is just as addictive - and can be played anywhere!
The familiar, fun gameplay is here. You're a kid taking over a farm. The farm is in disrepair and needs help. You start out by weeding the garden, chopping the logs into boards and breaking up rocks. You slowly start growing crops, raising horses and chickens, and making a name for yourself.
You might think this would get boring, but time is running all the time. You have to get food to your animals, play with them, keep your crops watered, get your field cleared, mine for supplies, go into town and chat it up with the local girls.
There are the usual goodies - horse races, other festivals that come on certain days of the year. There are upgrades to your tools and little sprites that help you out with your tasks. You can fall in love with the girl of your dreams and build a life together. With lots of customizable names, from your farm to your dog to your horse, it really begins to feel like your own little world.
The graphics are great, and while it's not a button-mashing extreme, the clock is always ticking so you get a sense that you have to get going with your life in order to feed yourself and your animals. There aren't goals to meet or points to score - there is a farm to tend to and responsibilities to manage. It's a great game for all ages and VERY rewarding.
My one complaint about this game - and keep in mind that this is a HUGELY addictive game for me so I love it - is that it only lets you be a male. Why?? I would LOVE to be a girl on the farm who is dating boys. It can't be THAT hard to switch a few names and pixels. Why am I forced to be a boy? Why can't a girl run a farm?
That being said, it's a ton of fun and well suited for the GBA. Grab a copy - but be warned, you'll be playing it a lot!

My wait is finaly over! i have been waiting for Harvest Moon 64 to come out right when i beat Harvest Moon SNES. this is the greatest game ever created! You dont go around shooting things until their guts fly out thierears like in other games. You take the role of a rancher trying to make it.You can plant crops and raise livestock, and watch them grow from day today. The game goes though out the 4 seasons, and 30 days in each season. Each day is about 15 mins long, so you gotta hurry and get things done! Ifthings get a little boring on the ranch, you can set out and explore themountains. You also meet a lot of character rich people in the town, makefriends, and even get married! This game never gets boring because theresso much to do! Its the perfect game for fans of Anime, or RPGs. Or you cango back to playing your mindless kill everyone games. Thanks, and hope youenjoy the best game ever made!

Product Description:
When Harvest Moon debuted on the Super NES video game system in 1997, some gamers figured the role-playing farming game would be about as much fun as watching corn grow. To the skeptics' surprise, the game's atypical premise and surprisingly compelling gameplay sparked an impressive fan following, turning the game into a bona fide sleeper hit. Now virtual farmers can relive the fun of the original in Nintendo 64's version, updated with beautiful 3-D graphics and a larger, more in-depth game world.
As in the original, Grandpa bailed on the old, neglected farm, leaving the player with the daunting task of making a living off the land, finding a wife and living happily ever after. (Did we mention that it's a challenging game?) Players first clear land for crops, venture to town for seed, tools, and farm animals, and cozy up to the town's five eligible women in hopes of making a love connection.
Much more than a plant-and-wait style game, various side quests keep players busy while the crops grow. The village is a socially active place, so mini-games pop up in the form of annual events, such as horse and dog races. In the winter, one can mine precious minerals or tackle an odd job here and there to keep food on the table and wood in the stove. With such a big, detailed game, you'll be playing until the cows... well, you get the idea. --Eric Twelker

Innocent Life: A Future Harvest Moon Review

Innocent Life: A Future Harvest Moon
Average Reviews:

I love Harvest Moon games. In fact, I bought a PSP just so that I can play this game. IL has many new and fun aspects to it, but it feels like it was made for kids below 7. It's waaaay too easy. You'll propably finish most of the quests before the end of the second spring and then sit and twiddle your fingers in total boredom. You'll also have millions in your account but nothing to spend your money on.

The good side: New story idea - set in the future - exploration - strange fungi is a super idea - lots of stuff to gather - flexible menu system.
The bad side: I hated the useless dog and couldn't get rid of it - the animals were a pain so I got rid of them- the game's not challenging/ I mostly went to bed at 8:00 AM to skip the boring days - the stupid bell that rings five times a day and freezes your screen - getting items out of the storage box and seed box can be frustrating - mining is a pain, since your screen freezes for several seconds everytime you find something to give you a lengthy explanation (repeated hundreds of times!)

The bottom line is: It can be entertaining for a short time, but don't expect too much from it.

GBA Harvest Moon More Friends of Mineral Town Review

GBA Harvest Moon More Friends of Mineral Town
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hmm, where to start?Well, I'll go ahead and begin by saying that this is basically the girl version of "Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town" that came out awhile ago.The games are very similar with the exception of a few, small additions, and of course, the gender specifications of each game.

In this game, you're a single, white, blonde female running a farm all on your own.If you're a fan of the Harvest Moon series, you know that running a farm is much more fun and exciting than it sounds. There are crops to water, animals to feed, cows to milk, sheep to shear, fish to catch, villagers to befriend and much more. =)

However, this game isn't all work.A lot of fun little extra curriculum activities are also entwined into the plot. There are quite a few competitive festivals in which you often get a prize for winning. Some of these include the Cooking Festival (In which you cook a dish and bring it to Rose Square to be judged); the Cow, Sheep, and Chicken Festivals; the Dog Disk Tournament; and much more.

Befriending the villagers will net you some nifty extras. For example, if you and Won become good friends, he'll allow you to sell stuff to him, which is handy because some items he will buy for a higher price than Zack. That, and he'll buy items that you can't normally sell, such as flowers and things you cook.

Mining is also a very fun experience in this game.Busting rocks with a hammer to get ores and gems... Who could say no to that? =P
Once you build up your stamina and learn to make energy-replenishing dishes, you can go very deep in the mines. (Although I'll admit, it can be VERY annoying trying to find the steps down to the next floor on the levels with huge areas. >_<)But if you have the patience, you can reach as low as level 255.The deeper you go in the mines, the more valuable stuff you'll find. And some things you'll find are very useful such as the Cursed Tools, the Goddess Jewels, and the Teleport Stone.

You can upgrade your farm/house in this version of HM as well, but it doesn't stop there. =DYou also get THREE new houses in addition to the one on your farm!Although they are hard to get...
-Vacation Villa (Have Gotz build it for $100,000,000 X_X)
-Mountain Cottage (Present for your 50th Wedding Anniversary)
-Beach House (Get 42 Connectivity Points with HM: Another Wonderful Life for GameCube.)
So yes, as you can see these are hard to obtain, but I guess it gives the hardcore gamers a goal...

The prospect of marriage is always fun, and in this game you have quite a variety. You have the same guys that were in HM: Back to Nature as well as three new secret ones. ^_^The list is as follows:
-Gray (The junior blacksmith)
-Doctor (The town doctor.Odd how his actual name is never mentioned...)
-Kai (The African American lad who only comes during the Summer. He runs a shop on the beach.)
-Cliff (Cute little homeless guy who moved to Mineral Town recently, it would seem.He stays at the Inn.)
-Rick (Red-headed guy who lives at the Chicken Farm.)
-Won (The weird, Asian dude that sells stuff. He lives with Zack on the beach.)
-Gourmet (The big, fat dude that judges the Cooking Festival. He copied Willy Wonka's clothing style... >_>)
-Kappa (A swamp monster, pretty much, lol.Yep, a genuine Japanese water demon...)

So there you have it.All the cool aspects of the game put into detail. Now for the bad things...

-A LOT of typos.Seriously, it's annoying. The oddest one is after you're married to anyone but Gray, go talk to him.He speaks Japanese. O.o
-Your animals can die. =(I know some people think this is more realistic, but I find it extremely annoying. After you go and win the festivals with them and get their affection all the way up, they die in a few years.(Chickens live for about 3 years before they start dieing.Cows and Sheep live for 4 or 5.Can't remember.)Although you can cheat death by saving before you go to sleep and then loading if they die, since the funerals are always in the morning... =)
-There are some very valuable and useful items that are obtained too late in the game. The Gem of Truth is a pain, and the Teleport Stone can only be gotten after the third year, and even then it's annoying getting to it. (All the way at the bottom on the Spring Mine. >_<)Also, a lot of things are just annoying to get.The Goddess Gem, the Kappa Gem, and the Mythic Tools are the main things.
-The Vacation Villa costs waaaaaay too much. X_X One hundred million gill is FAR too much, IMO.Ten million would've been an adequate price, I think....
-The game can get repetitive, seriously repetitive.Once you've played a few dozen years, you're kind of sitting there going "Why am I still doing this...?" lol But for some reason, you can't put it down.Thankfully there's a lot of things to obtain, keeping you interested for that long.

Well, that's about all I've got.If you do decide to buy the game, I hope you enjoy it. ^_^

Harvest Moon DS Cute Review

Harvest Moon DS Cute
Average Reviews:

Harvest Moon DS: Cute -

Before I get started, just incase anyone that reads this has NOT picked up a Harvest Moon game before... Harvest Moon is a farming simulator with a neo love system embedded into it.Throughout your play, you'll grow crops, raise animals, (in this version) date guys, and move on to have a happy family.
In this game, the Goddess has been punished by the Harvest God for being too lax with her duties. You, as a rookie farmer, have to unseal the cast away sprites and return the Harvest Goddess to her place, all while finally proving yourself worthy to the Harvest God.
Though I've given a brief description, the game play is more diverse and satisfying than what I'm cluing in to.My advice to anyone who has not played a Harvest Moon game and is curious is to just pick it up and see for yourself whether or not it's for you.
Moving on from the introduction...
This is very much like the original Harvest Moon DS released with the male main character, except now you play as one of two girls. There are some added items and the dialogue has changed, but the aspect of the game is still the same, just flipped around.
I was worried while it was being made, weren't we all? When the boy's version was released, it contained so many bugs it was frustrating. Don't get me wrong, this game is not without flaw.It has a few spelling errors here and there, though not enough to bother me or the game play.
As far as the changes go, since you play a girl, the marriage candidates have been switched towards the male spectrum, with more than enough possible bachelors to satiate anyone who has waited for this.Natsume has also (finally) added in a new guy, I might be a bit biased but I'm happy with the add. :)
Continuing on the subject of changes, they've added a wallpaper and flooring system, as well as a clothing change system and a few new events.
All in all, if you're a girl, or just a big fan of the Harvest Moon series, this is most likely a must have for you.

Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness Review

Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I actually had the opportunity to play this game months ago via a Japanese copy.Past Harvest Moon games revolved around the same premise: grow crops, raise animals, fish, mine, etc..This does too, but there are also noticeable differences. To start off with, most other games already have 90% or more of the people you interact with there. In Island of Happiness (IoH), you start off with about 4 other people.By certain dates and certain achievements more people arrive.

In the past, you used ores to strengthen your tools, now you have colorful spheres called 'wonderfuls' that modify your tools in some very nice ways (imagine adding orange wonderfuls to your milker and receiving and extra milk for each orange wonderful attached). You will get wonderfuls for winning competitions (which can't start until you build the East bridge.

You will also be extremely exhausted (and hungry) for the first season and until you can get enough people to move to the island to open up the diner and cafe (so don't over do working the crops).

In HM IoH, there are more things to spend your hard earned money on.And sheep, before took 1 week before you could shear them again, now take only 3 days.

On a down side, you cannot use the old cheat to change the weather.I've tried many times.

It is more challenging because of the limitations early on and very little chance of actually getting married in the first 2 years - but even your rivals don't seem too rushed to get married.

Things will improve after you get the West bridge build (the East bridge has to be build first - so you are looking around $80,000 total for the first two bridges), but the West bridge will give you access to the mine and help bring in enough people to open up the diner and cafe.

If you were easily bored by the second or third years of other Harvest Moons, this will give you more to do even well past the fourth or fifth years (I'm in Summer Year 4 of the Japanese version).

Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon Review

Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Rune Factory is one of the best versions of Harvest Moon to come out in a while. This review, I should warn you, is targeted at those individuals who have played previous installments in the series. If you are an experienced player of the Harvest Moon franchise, like I am, then you will find much that is new in this experience.

Graphically, this game is impressive. The environments, although 2-D, look beautiful in their hand-drawn style. The characters are 3-D, and it gives the game an interesting look.

The farming aspects of this harvest moon game are probably the best they have ever been. There is a huge variety of crops you can grow. You are also given a good size field to farm. Not only can you farm your own land, but you can also farm in caves where seasons never change. This allows for extended growing periods. In addition to this, livestock in Rune Factory are monsters you befriend in the caves. These monsters can help on your farm, give eggs, give milk, or give wool, just like traditional farm livestock.

In addition to this, you can forge weapons and tools, cook foods, and enhance other items in your inventory. However, these aspects don't come into the game until later on when you make improvements to your home.

The combat system in the game is handled much like the farming system. You press the same buttons and can even use your farm tools in combat. In fact, they are so integrated that you can use your sword to cut weeds and you can water your enemies to death. However, for best results, you should cut weeds with the sickle and defeat your enemies with a weapon of some sort. Farming and fighting both drain the same stamina meter. Once your stamina is depleted, fighting/farming depletes your health. This is both good and bad. It is good because it adds challenge and tension to the dungeon battles, but it is bad because it limits the amount of work and battle you can do in a day. There are in-game remedies to this, but I will not discuss these in much detail. I will just say they add to the overall challenge and only work to make the game even better.

Other aspects that have made past Harvest Moon games great are also present here. Some of them are even better. There are ten women in the game that you can marry. Those familiar with past Harvest Moon games know how this system works.

There are also a number of different shops that you can visit in the town. The library, for the first time ever I believe, is actually useful. Not only can you go to the library to read hints on how to play the game, but you can actually buy books at the library now. These books actually contribute to improved gameplay. For example, you can buy spellbooks that will allow you to perform magic of various sorts. There are also cookbooks, forging handbooks, and other books that come in handy once you expand your home and also purchase a kitchen.

The other major addition to the gameplay within the town is that you can sell items directly to stores. You can use the shipping bin on your farm, but then you would need to wait until 5PM for the profits to roll in. If you go to a store to sell items, you can get the profits quickly and see exactly how much you are making on each item you sell.

In conclusion, this is an awesome game. It is one of the best Harvest Moon games ever, and one of the greatest games on the Nintendo DS. I have only touched the surface of the game in this review. There is much more to see and do. Buy the game, play the game, and have a great time farming and fighting in Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon.

Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon Special Edition Review

Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon Special Edition
Average Reviews:

I was shocked to realize that I had missed an installment of the Harvest Moon universe so I had to pick up Innocent Life. While it is very different from the other harvest moon games, the differences are interesting enough to keep you captivated.

The controls take a while to get used to.Mainly select is triangle instead of X except when you're getting into storage boxes...then it's O for some weird reason.

The story is good: Save the Island from blowing up.No biggie.

What I liked was not being confined to the town anymore. There is a whole island to explore and you get a dune buggy and tent to do it with! There are even a sort "dungeons" with small puzzles to solve to advance through.

What I didn't like was you don't have to take care of your animals other than brushing them...and even then you don't really have to do that.Animals take a huge backseat in this game...they're almost pointless really.I also hated the Bas&ket Rail system.(yeah that's how it's spelled)It's supposed to work like a train set...I could never make it work well enough to justify using, but that could just be me.

All in all it's a great game.Different from all the other harvest moons by far, but still a good game in your own right.I think it's a nice addition and a breath of fresh air to farming life!

You can bet your bumper crop that this isn't an ordinary farming adventure, but Dr. Hope says that you were made for this epic quest.

Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands Review

Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As I'm sure most who read this review know, Harvest Moon is a series that is over a decade old and spans plenty of platforms(mostly older ones). It has a strong fanbase, but the games aren't too hard to get into for newbies. However, before I continue, those of you who like instant gratification and/or dislike repetition would do well to stay away. Basically, you start out with a plot of land that is covered with weeds, rocks and logs. Your job is to clear it out and plant crops to make money and in general improve your farm. There are four seasons with 30 days in each, and you plant crops according to the seasons, water these crops and harvest them when the time is right.

But there is a lot more to the game than this! The main focus of the game is collecting sun stones to raise new islands. One of them is the Volcano Island, which allows you to mine, and another is the Animal Island in which you can feed wild animals that will collect resources for you. There's plenty to do, some of which will net you sun stones: You can chop wood and use it to upgrade your farm (with such upgrades as a chicken coop, a barn and a kitchen), befriend the residents, raise new islands by collecting sun stones, get married, obtain animals for your farm to take care of and collect resources from, cook, collect recipes, fish, mine, enter festivals and a lot more. These things do take time, but if you plan right you can steadily improve your farm and find new things to occupy your time on the islands. However, this game is complex to play without a walkthrough, so I advise searching the web for a good guide. (No need to pay money for a game guide, good ones are readily available online!)

Even with all this stuff to do, the game can get slow, especially during wintertime when you can't plant crops. Therefore, winter is a pretty good time to go fishing and mining, since these both use up stamina that would otherwise be used farming. There are 143 fish to catch, and whether you catch a lot of different fish depends on how often you fish, what time of day you are fishing and your location. The actual act of fishing is basically just waiting for an exclamation mark to appear over your character's head and quickly pressing the "Y" button, but in a way it's still fun. (Keep those reflexes sharp!) I don't have too much to say about mining, except that it can be an exercise in frustration if you don't pack enough food to keep your stamina high.

Taking care of your pets is pretty fun. You feed them, brush them, pick them up, milk them, shear them, and occasionally pet them with the stylus. The horse and dog have their own little festival minigame that you can practice for.

The graphics of the game are a nice step up from HMDS and HM Cute, going for a more DS-friendly appearance instead of the GBA-esque graphics of the others. The sound has a nice cheery tune to it, it isn't memorable but thankfully it doesn't get repetitive. The controls work great, giving you an option of traditional button controls and stylus controls. I find that a combination of these works great.

To sum this up, HMSI is a game that long-time fans of the HM series will likely approve of, and for open-minded newcomers it's also a great deal of fun. Repetition does occasionally rear its ugly head, but long-time fans won't be bothered by this obviously, and newcomers who have done their research with expect this. Happy farming!

Rune Factory: Frontier Review

Rune Factory: Frontier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Thus far, Rune Factory: Frontier is probably the best in the Harvest Moon/Rune Factory series of games. In fact this game is held back from true greatness only by some seriously questionable and very annoying "features."In the end, the good outweighs the bad by a good margin.

If you've never played a Harvest Moon or Rune Factory title, the premise is really basic. You move into a town, you start a farm, you interact with townsfolk, go fishing, raise monsters, cook foods, go mining, craft items, do some adventuring, and try to start a family. It has a very open ended design allowing you to play in whatever style you prefer. In fact, the game allows you to do so much it is almost overwhelming. If you like farming you can stick to farming. If you like dungeon crawling, go for it.As the seasons change and the years go by, more and more the game gradually opens itself up to you.

THE GOOD:
+++ Addictive gameplay.Several times, long after I should have gone to bed I've said "I'll just play through one more day..."
+++ The graphics are simple yet beautiful.Lush colors are used throughout the game to good effect.
+++ Huge amount of variety.Sometimes there is too much choice it seems, but there is nothing in place that really keeps you from going back and doing other stuff in the game as long as you've unlocked a feature.
+++ Deep RPG experience that allows you to steer your character's life the way you want to.There is a lot of strategy for those of you who want to look for that depth, or you can just plow through it headlong.Either way the game will let you succeed in your own way.

THE OK BUT COULD BE BETTER:
=== The relaxed gameplay flow can get repetitive. You only have so much time each day to accomplish tasks and so much energy before you collapse.Because of this it isn't uncommon to take days of time in the game to accomplish a goal.

=== The game map is made up of independent sections or districts, such as Church District, Homestead, Business District, etc. This isn't bad or good in of itself, but learning the layout of the entrances and exits to each section honestly takes far longer than it should have when it should have been absurdly easy.

=== Music is sometimes excellent and other times annoyingly repetitive.

=== The "Runey System"... I'm really on the fence as to whether I hate the Runeys or think they are a good idea.Basically you use the Runey System to help keep the environment in the different areas of the town in balance. On the surface, the Runey system works, but... see later in the review for some harsh criticism of the Runey system.

=== What voice acting exists in the game was done by some good voice actors, but with some really awkward scripts that didn't make it through the translation from Japanese to English so well.

=== Controls are functional and tight, but questionable design decisions keep them from being great. For example, it is too easy to accidentally pick items up instead of performing special actions because pick-up is mapped to the trigger (B) and special actions are mapped to A+B.This also causes extra strain on your hand while farming. The good news is that the Classic Controller is supported on this game, which is very nice and reduces hand fatigue. The bad news about the Classic Controller is that you can't knock on doors because that action is mapped to shaking the nunchuck.THE BAD:
--- Fixed camera angles. The player has absolutely no control of the camera which results in spending a lot of time running towards the camera.

--- Load times... lots and lots of brief four and five second load times.Every time you go though a door or move to a different section of the map you will be greeted with a load screen.

--- Lack of logical direction regarding some of your tool locations and plot devices, such as the Axe.Why does the nun have the axe?I have no idea. Why do you not get the axe until after you've used the hoe 40 times?I have no idea. Why is the Pet Brush tool acquired randomly from a conversation with the carpenter?Absolutely no idea. What's worse is that the game doesn't give you any decent hints to speak of.Luckily the internet is the perfect solution and some folks have already written excellent tutorials on how to quickly get all of the tools in the game.

--- The Runey system is good idea gone bad because of a few really bad game design decisions. While not completely broken, the Runeys are dealt with very clumsily almost every step of the way.1) The game explains the Runey system very poorly.I still don't understand it, but I have found out the hard way that neglecting the Runeys and allowing them to go extinct will cause your crops to stop growing.2) Collecting Runeys is slow, time consuming, and kind of random.3) Distributing Runeys is also slow and time consuming, but at least it isn't random.4) Checking on the status of Runeys in each district requires you visit a specific part of town instead of just going to a simple menu option.Status checking is probably the worst design flaw of the Runey system.Luckily, if you focus on the runeys about one day out of every two weeks or so you should be able to keep a lid on it.

The good definitely outweighs the bad in this game. While it may look like I don't like the game based on the number of criticisms I have, I would like to emphasize that this game is VERY fun and most of all, addicting.I can easily see the most obsessed gamers getting well over 100 hours out of this game and more casual gamers could easily break the 40 hour mark.If you enjoy Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, or The Sims and you haven't burnt yourself out on life simulation games yet, pick this game up.

Our hero enters the frontier, where no one dares enter, to cultivate the unforgiving soil. As time passes, his lonely town of one becomes a town of two, three...until it grows into a town to behold. The town is not the only thing to behold. Among the newcomers are beautiful ladies who have moved to the town to start a new life. Which one will be our hero's lucky lady? However, our hero is soon faced with a problem. Creatures of the frontier, many of them hostile towards humans, pose a great threat to the safety of his townsfolk. To find a way to live in peaceful coexistence or perhaps destroy them along with the danger they bring – the decision is up to our hero.

Gameplay
As with previous related games, Rune Factory: Frontier featuresa myriad of Life Sim activities like farming, raising livestock, buildingrelationships with NPCs, etc., as well as role-playing elements like dungeoncrawling and item collection and leveling, but in structuring gameplayit goes to great lengths to incorporate an open-ended structure that allowsplayers to choose the type of game they wish to experience at all pointsin the game. This means that although at the beginning of the game playerswill find themselves presented with the familiar opportunity of startinga farm, selling their crops at market and by doing so improving the overallprosperity and size of their town, they are not necessarily tied to theland. Although farming is an excellent way to finance adventuring, therich RPG elements of the game can be pursued at any time. These elementspresent themselves mostly in the form of battling monsters and bossesthat have found their way into the land, but seem to be coming from themysterious 'Whale Island,' which floats in the sky above your town. Playerscan either battle the monsters or make friends with them, raising themas a kind of livestock. As with everything in Rune Factory: Frontier, the choice is yours. Whether it's growing crops, expanding the town, fighting(or befriending) monsters or even falling in love, the experience is uniqueto each player.

Key Game Features:

Lifelike Interactions - NPCs will come and go based on theplayer's actions. Want to get along with your neighbor? Want to givefellow townsfolk something they might hate? Go ahead, but they may getupset and leave the town. Be nice to attract more newcomers.
Natural Ecosystem - Breathe life into the barren wilderness by cultivating it and planting crops. Small creatures (spirits) will gather first, triggering a food chain to later attract larger and rarer creatures. You are responsible for bringing more fertility to the land.
Floating Island to Explore - There is an island that floats in the skies. When you see it, you must quickly find a way to get on it as new discoveries await.
Intuitive Wii Controls - Use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to do everything. Plow the land, shake hands with townsfolk to strengthen relationships, or even wave it around when you're on a date with a girl. (Also compatible with the Classic Controller.)
Open-ended Play Structure - Whether you prefer Life Sim gaming,Action RPG action or a mix of both, Rune Factory: Frontier letsyou game as you want, when you want.
Console Debut - Frontier is the console debut of the popular Rune Factory series.

Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon Review

Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Rune Factory 2

I'm writing to review to compare this second Rune Factory to the first one.

Great:
The AI is much better than it was in RF1
The Bachlorettes have a much wider range of personalities, and better thought out events.
The bulletin board system is a great way to raise friendship points and make money.
You can play as a boy or a girl in generation two.
New weapons such as a wand for spellcasting.
No major glitches; I haven't noticed any weird bugs in the AI such as I did in RF1
The scenery is really well done; I love the island.
No easy money like in RF1; you actually have to do a little work at first.
The backpack and equipment system has been made far easier to use.

Good:
The graphics have improved somewhat.
Your attacks look far more realistic.
You can see your shield when fighting!
Less glitchy than R1
Did I mention how the characters are far better done? They are all so neat!
The controls are done very well; I found them much easier than the first game's.
You can steal brides away from their rival wedding if they love you!
The music is gorgeous and fits the dungeons well.
The odd monster generators are replaced with more realistic energy points, hinting at a connection to the First Forest and a natural appearance of the monsters.
The monster spawn points change when you reenter a room; e.g. you will see woolies one time and reenos another.
In the first game, if you married, your wife would never, ever move. In RF2 in generation one she will move around your house, and when you are a kid she will be walking around town again.
Graphics wise I have notices less clipping than in RF1, and also lots of nice little add ons: such as the falling cherry blossoms in spring, how when you hammer a rock little chips fly off...

Bad:
The rain sounds better, but still will get quieter one one side of your speakers/headphones (in RF1, it would cut out entirely).
There is also a spot or two where they used the wrong voice actor(esse)s.
I was one of the few who liked the English voices in RF1, but even I can't stand any of the voices in this version save for a few. But you do get used to them, thankfully.
There is lag when several sprites are on screen; such as if you have around 3-6 people on a screen, or in a barn full of buffamoos.

Terrible:
The typos. There are far more than there should be. I'm less than an hour into the game, running errands for people, and I've found three all ready. There are problems such as one character saying another's lines, or sometimes if you receive a potion you get a random dialogue. Many other typos were reported, but I haven't heard if these are in the Japanese or just the English.

Good or Bad:
When playing as Aria or Ars, you can "date" the twins (Serena & Sera/Suu & Muu, both girls) and have a fake marriage ceremony. You can do this with all of the children of opposite gender (save for the twins are avaliable for both), which is a little odd since everyone is around 7, but also just a lot like playing house and very comical.

You have rivals for all of the bachlorettes, save for three in generation one, so it makes the dating a bit more fun, and more realistic in that you don't have half a dozen single women like you did in RF1, but it also gives you a timeline that you have to marry them by.

Overall I think this game is a fine sequel! I think I won't be playing RF1 as much, since this one has so many improvements.

Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life Review

Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After looking at screenshots and the marvelous revious for the same game in the Gamecube I was thrilled that its company Marvelous Interactive released a PS2 version of it in Japan, hence it would be imported to the US.
Unfortunately due to some misclaculation from the programmers at some point the American version falls short of dazzling the players unlike its original Japanese PS2 counterpart.

The Cons:
1-The main character you play as moves too slow, hence the control buttons of some of his actions when tending to animals, giving presents to the other charcters, talking, harvesting, etc.
All the other characters move too slow, as in a slow motion sports replay. When he runs/walks he tends to slow down according to the terrain's surface and if he is going up or downhill; this adds realism but still way too slow.

2-Loading time takes from 5 to almost 15 full seconds everytime the characters enters or exits a building, or checks the contents of his backpack. Your TV goes blank and a tiny "now loading" message appears on the bottom right corner of the screeen. This is extremely annoying, as the Gamecube version (which I also own) does not work that way.

3-Save for the indoors scenery all outdoors environments look too grainy, colors are pale (adjusts your TVs) and without much datail on them. Again I must compare to the original PS2 version of Japan and the Gamecube where the graphics are gorgeous, and I must ask what happened?!

The Pros:
1-Aside from the farmwork the character must marry, raise a baby and make friends and archeological discoveries.A new bride character is available that wasn't so in the Gamecube. The ability to have a daughther instead of a boy too. One must visit the Sprites home and talk to the pot many many many times(keep pressing the X button) until he grants you a child of the sex you choose. New events include a number of scenes with the new would be wife and the child you'll have with her.

2-The main player character changes his clothes (is a color change; same outfit, but still a welcomed change) in accordance to the seasons (fall, winter, spring, summer), as well as his wife.

3-During the very first period of the game you're able to make better profits. The color of your horse can be white, a sandy beige or even a dark brown (almost black).

4-It's a life simulation rather than just a farming simulation. The main character you play as has the highs and lows of work and making friends and raising a child.Eventually all characters age, as your child grows, and makes a life of his/her own later on. Theres even a (warning spoiler ahead)

death scene, you die, but once your "life" is completed you can restart with all acquired goodies from the farm you have made.
For players of Save The Homeland, who don't have a Gamecube I do recommend this Harvest Moon game as it will be quite the gaming experience, and different from the Save the Homeland premise. One just have to get used to the grainy outdoors and slow loading.

Harvest Moon Another Wonderful Life Review

Harvest Moon Another Wonderful Life
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is such a fun game for girls! You start out in the farm all alone. The whole 1st chapter you try to get one of the 3 bachelors to like you by giving them presents and talking to them. In the second chapter you get married to the guy who likes you the most. Here are your choices:
Rock: 22 in the beginning. A young dude who has no life virtues. He cares only for his looks and having fun. Rock is the easiest to marry, but trust me, don't!
Gustafa: 28. A smooth, happy musical guy. He's sort of a hippie. I would suggest him over Rock.
Marlin: 33. I married him and I suggest you would too! In the game he compliments my child and teaches him life-lessons. Marry him!

Whoever you marry you'll have a child. Depending on whom you marry is how he'll act and look. When they're babies they are SO cute! Then in the next chapter they're toddlers, then children, then a teenager! Love him buy giving him things he likes and talking to him often.

Back to you: You spend your 24 minute days by taking care of your *adorable* cows and chickens and goats or sheep. Taking care refers to:
1. Feeding them
2. Talking and petting them daily
3. If cows or goats; milking them

Your chickens and roosters are easier to care for. Just take their eggs and feed them! LOL

You also have an adorable dog you get in the beginning. You can if you want feed him but you don't have to.

Another thing you do during the day is taking care of plants! Plant them and water them. Typical. You can plant anything from potatoes to strawberries. You buy the seeds from another farm in town. Once the plants are grown you can give them away to people in the village, cook with them, sell them or just eat them plain. Yum.

Money: You make money but selling crops, fruits, milk, sheep fur, cheese, butter, rocks and gems found in the digsite, flowers found around the town and mushrooms also found around the town. Twice a month (Harvest moon months witch takes about 1 or 2 hours) a fat rich man named Van (what a wonderful name) comes to town and sells and buys with you. You can sell pretty much anything to him and buy furniture and clothes and whatnot from him.

What to spend your $ on: livestock and buildings them mostly. You can buy clothes and medicines from Van too. Money luckily isn't something you NEED witch I think is great. It's just nice to have.

Pros:
You don't NEED money
You live in a cute, peaceful town with a beach, houses, streams and ponds called Forget-Me-Not Valley
Really nice townspeople who each have different personalities
Pretty good graphics. Beautiful scenery.
The game doesn't take too long and doesn't end too quickly (I've been playing for more than 1 year)
I love the animals! Who would've known how fun it is to farm!
Great storyboard that doesn't get old.
You have a family! It's so much fun to be a mom and wife. ^^

Cons:
Here and there there are small typos (witch really doesn't matter at all)
ummm...... I think that's it!

Ending/Overall/Recap: You start on your own on your fathers farm, you get married have a kid, be a great mom, have fun farming, be friends with other people, fish, cook, and ride your hoarse! Yay that is so much fun =) Throughout the game there are happy suprises. This game is for anyone who is interested in life simulations. Because this is way better than sims+ animal crossing any other life simulation!
RATING: 100%* * * * * five stars most definitely =) plus five more * * * * * buy this game! Yep yep yep good game ^^
